Alicia avoids half-ass Question, Asian Championships, Shawn Johnsons and stuff I missed while I was working

So the Asian Championships took place and it didn’t include, Shang Chunsong, So I forgot to care….. Japan named their Worlds team in June even though Worlds usually takes place in like October and they left home their WORLD CHAMPION on beam. (It’s like Japan doesn’t like having nice things)… Some no-name, World cups took place…. Anything else? I can’t even come up with a title for this blog.lol Is Gymnastics now just too boring to care about or is there nothing to discuss but why Tasha Schwikert STILL hasn’t called out USA-Gymnastics for hiring Alicia Sacramone?

Speaking of Alicia, she was interviewed and asked about what happened in the car with Mckayla Maroney, (NOT SPECIFICALLY about her telling Maroney to STFU mind you) but she avoided the question completely, and not one, so-called, member of the, “but we care about kids’ mental health” media decided to man up and demand she specifically answer the part about Mckayla Maroney? So is Alicia really a puppet for Valeri Liukin running things behind the scenes? ( I didn’t pay much attention when this happened and now I have to do research, damn it)

Nastia Mocks Shawn then deletes it

Need more proof Nastia is a bitch? Probably not since we all know this but Nastia put this on her facebook page and then deleted it minutes later.

If you click on the picture/screen cap it gets a little bigger.

For those like me who didn’t know what this meant Shawn wore a gold ribbon during the AA at the Olympics in 2008 and Nastia wore the pink scrunchie.

Lets pretend these girls are all still BFF’s because someone says they are. Nastia is clearly still very bitter that Shawn has all the fans and she is teaching spinning classes in New York but hey, there is always the NBC gig to brag about Nastia where you sound like an ignorant phony and come across as a snot. That is something to be proud of.

Can Kyla or Simone join the list of US All Around Champions ?

The United States has 6 World All Around Champions and a very good shot at having a seventh this year so tell me which of these two do you think has the best shot at winning the 2013 World All Around title?

Clean and consistent Kyla Ross or powerful and explosive Simone Biles?

Simone has the edge in start value. Kyla has the edge in execution. Take your pick?

Remembering the past

Kim Zmeskal started the US’s world AA titles winning in Indianapolis in 1991. Shannon Miller followed it up winning back to back titles in 1993 and 1994. (Outside the US) Then we waited until 2005 when Chellsie Memmel defeated pure evil by the smallest margin imaginable. Shawn Johnson was next in 2007 followed by Bridget Sloan in 2009 and ending with Jordyn Wieber in 2011.

So who do Kyla and Simone remind you of when compared to successful world all around champions of the past?

For me Kyla reminds me of Shannon. Clean, consistent and labeled boring by the people that cannot find a real reason to hate is pretty much the gist of it IMO. Shannon has more rhythm and flow and is a better dancer than Kyla but no one else really fits the question. Kyla isn’t quite an artistic gymnast though she is working on it.

Simone is a combination of all other remaining gymnasts. She reminds me of Shawn or Chellsie on floor. Not much presentation but a hell of a tumbler. On bars she is Bridget. There but nothing special. On beam she is hit or miss. She could be any of them but Zmeskal who was a rock on beam. When it comes to vault I guess she reminds me mostly of Jordyn but only because they both have the Amanar. Simone is dynamic and impressive with her Amanar and that doesn’t really fit anyone else on the list.

Judging by past US World AA champions if I had to garner a guess I would say the judges prefer the Simone Biles of the gym world over the Kyla Ross’s. The US has only one artistic gymnast with a World AA title. In fact she has two of them.

Shawn Johnson and weight

I have no problem with discussing weight issues of a gymnast at this blog. You can pretty much discuss anything that won’t make me bring out the disclaimer blog again.

I don’t think we should be calling anyone names like fat cow but pointing out that a gymnast has gained weight and discussing it between ourselves is allowed. I would prefer we not call someone names about their weight gain but if that is the way you decide to go that is your decision. Just be prepared that people are not going to stand for it.

EVERYONE has dealt with gaining weight before. It is a part of life.

(This is a really bad outfit for Shawn. No one should wear something like this)

In specifics to Shawn yes she has gained some weight but she is hardly fat. She is pretty tiny and even ten pounds on her looks like she has gained twenty. Her legs look bigger.

Someone in the comments section mentioned that Shawn needs to wear longer dresses and I agree with that. Her problem area is her legs and a longer dress with maybe heals would do wonders for her look. Lest face it, no one that isn’t skinny is going to look good in those dresses they wear on Dancing with the stars.

Here is what Shawn thought a few months ago. I am the last person to lecture anyone on thinking before they speak but, think before you speak:) (Unless you don’t want too:)

Waiting for Sunday

Sorry for the lack of updates but I am on vacation the next two weeks so my boss made sure I did all the work I would have been doing before hand. You suck boss.

I am working on the twitter approval. I plan on replying to all the requests so please be patient if you don’t get an e-mail back or approved right away.

I technically have to work Sunday but when I originally agreed to do it I thought I would only be missing mens prelims but it turns out it is womens prelims so I will be calling in sick. There will be live blogging if I can get my butt out of bed at 10 am:)

So I have been catching up on the Podium training from either today or yesterday. I am not sure. I so far have seen Vault and Bars They still work at this link. Beam and floor have been removed.

The US women were on the Today show today. I have not watched that yet but here is the video I just watched it. I’ll keep quiet on my opinion of it. Lets just say someone needs to teach Mckayla and Gabby a little humility. I hope it doesn’t come by way of a silver medal.

Gymnastike is telling us who the best tumbler is. Do you agree? I have to watch to find out.

The men have their line up. Horton and Mikulak are not doing AA. I guess that is a way to make sure your two “it” gymnasts get to do the AA. This article insists it is all about team but give me a break, IT’S PRELIMS, it really makes no difference who is doing it in the prelims for a team medal. I don’t care enough about the men to care but it just seems unfair that Sam Mikulak isn’t doing the AA.

Shawn Johnson Retires

ESPN cares about something besides the Skankees

In the worst kept secret of all time Shawn Johnson has decided to retire.

Many people are getting on her case for stringing the world along but if you ask me she did herself proud. She tried the comeback. She worked hard, made the Pan Am Games team and looks like she gave it her full effort for over a year. That deserves a lot of credit.

She has probably been stringing the world along for a few months now and while I don’t condone that at least her intentions at first were to help team USA. How do we know this because she proved it last year. Maybe if she had Nastia’d it instead she would still be competing right now.

It’s a shame that the gymnasts who did it the right way with the best of intentions are the ones breaking down two month before the Olympics.

You know what else Shawn deserves credit for? not announcing her retirement during Worlds Nationals. She could have gone the Prima donna route and announced it during Worlds, Nationals but she didn’t. I also think the reason she waited a few days was to give the Memmel stuff a chance to run its course. The Memmel stuff has died down over the last few days.

So while pounding on your knee is a lot different then dancing on it I wish Shawn the best of luck in her future shot at “fame”

EliteFan posted a link to a Article about Shawn Johnsons book in one of the comment sections of this blog. I thought it would be a good idea to repost it here.

The difference between what one person does and what “other” people do is the intent.

Two favorite stories from Shawn Johnson’s new book by Alexa Ainsworth.

When Shawn Johnson won the silver in the AA and not the gold as many expected Michelle Kwan searched out Shawn Johnson’s phone number to send her a text message. Below is what she wrote,

“Hi Shawn! I just wanted to say everybody is so proud of you. People love you, not because of the color of your medals but because of your amazing attitude, great spirit and kicking talent. Keep your head up high and smile. Everyone loves you,” wrote 1998 Olympic figure skating silver medalist Michelle Kwan

There is a reason we have not heard about this story before because when Michelle Kwan does something nice she does it because she is genuine. She doesn’t do it so she can announce in an interview that she is the reason the team rallied and won Gold.

I can also guarantee you that Michelle didn’t write that text because she thought it would make a difference. Michelle isn’t all about Michelle. If she sent that text message she sent it because she knew what Shawn was going through and she wanted to make her feel better.

She won’t compete at Classics. She might not compete at Nationals. Can we end this facade that Shawn Johnson is currently still training for the Olympics?

When Shawn started this comeback I believe she had the best of intentions. That was 2011. This is 2012. I currently think differently.

The reason Shawn is pretending she is still in the gym is Nastia-esque. It’s more about this instead of this.

One of the blogs regulars has a different idea. “Sandy” thinks Shawn has something up her sleeve. That is another possibility but I somehow doubt it. Wouldn’t it be fun if Shawn skipped Classics and Nationals than showed up at Trials and finished top 3?

I still believe that Shawn started this comeback honestly. She certainly proved that by going to Pan Ams and nearly making the World team (where in any other year and any other head of the National team she very well could have been on the team) but somewhere in the middle of this she got lost. Either mentally or physically.

I really don’t think Shawn will skip Nationals and only compete at Trials. If she does that she might as well not even bother.

Hear me Marta? Hire someone to dress these girls because every single one of them looks like they got dressed in the dark.

Sabrina dear, Why are you dressing like your grandmother? Is Nastia giving you advice on what to wear?

Mckayla Dear, Not sure what that outfit is or that attitude. Watch the video about who is the best dressed. Listen to her answer. Listen to everyone laugh and then watch the look on her face. She was serious and she didn’t understand why anyone was laughing. HI-LAAAARious.
