WINNER: 2013 Sportsperson of the year: Kohei Uchimura

His 4th World AA title in a row and no one comes close to his form, technique and artistry. There has never been a better male gymnast and why some may argue there were more successful (and I might even agree. Hell Kohei agree’s with you ) Kohei to me out shines everyone because he does everything talent wise and he does it during the most ridiculous code of all time.

I’ll change my mind tomorrow:)

Thanks for all the nice comments during X-Mas time while I was away. You guys make this blog so keep commenting.

The Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day

December 23, 2013

Just to let my haters know I do have a heart. At 3 minutes in in this video I cried. I didn’t expect it to be honest because I already knew the results thanks to facebook but for those who don’t know Ice Skating Nationals for Japan happened two days ago and the last of my skating loves Daisuke Takahashi had a disastrous skate during the Short and Long programs leaving him in 5th place and out of the 2014 Olympics.

Thankfully Japan has a system for deciding the Olympics team and they don’t decide the outcome of an Olympics on one competition.

According to BlazingBlades owner Peter Murray (via facebook)

Under JSF Criteria for Olympic Team Selection the Winner of the Men’s Event is guaranteed the first spot on the team. The Silver Medalist at Japan’s Nationals gets the second spot. The third spot is decided with a heavy emphasis on their highest ISU World Ranking and then the current season’s highest scores.

Take a look at both categories…

World standing:
1 4558 Hanyu
3 3529 Takahashi
6 3067 Machida
10 2344 Oda
17 2044 Kozuka

Season’s best scores:
1 295.27 Patrick CHAN CAN ISU GP Trophee Bompard 2013 16.11.2013
2 293.25 Yuzuru HANYU JPN ISU Grand Prix Final 2013/14 06.12.2013
3 268.31 Daisuke TAKAHASHI JPN ISU GP NHK Trophy 2013 09.11.2013
4 265.38 Tatsuki MACHIDA JPN ISU GP Hilton HHonors Skate America 2013 19.10.2013
5 262.98 Nobunari ODA JPN Nebelhorn Trophy 2013 28.09.2013

So today after the women’s LP they announced the team and Japan did the right thing and named Daisuke to the Olympic team . In Japan it isn’t about a death camp to see who survives when deciding a team its about the rankings of the skater and the scores they have received over an entire season

I now wait for the inevitable hate for poor Di that Michelle Kwan received in 2006.

Daisuke skated his entire long program with a bloody hand from a fall on his first jump

Going to the Olympics is not a lifetime achievement award but when someone has a successful season and one bad competition due to an injury 2 months before the Olympics it makes no sense to leave them at home. I for one couldn’t be happier that Dai is going back to the Olympics and I am glad that Japan’s Olympic decision makers followed their rules named him to the team.

This is also sweet and I must admit it made me tear up too. So unlike me.lol Loved Zhang Nan as a gymnast she was during the years I loved most Chinese gymnasts . I originally got this from World of gymnastike but am not interest in the rest of the engaged people list so I included the video. Jiang Yuyuan is seen in the group picture. Love the reaction of the gymnasts that helped Teng Haiban film the proposal. I usually cringe at these videos because I find it so tacky when people film them but this was too sweet.

Nominee: Sportswomen of the year: Simone Biles

National Champion. World Champion. First American women in 18 years to make all 4 event finals at Worlds. In any other year she would be the run away winner for Sportsperson of the year. For now she is the next nominee.

NOMINEE: Sportswomen of the year : Florida Gators Gymnastics

Your 2013 College National Champion Florida Gators. Are they a Dynasty in the making?

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Aliya Mustafina

December 21, 2013

Gotta love how Aliya looks like crap at Worlds until its for a medal and then she pulls off things like her beam routine in the Event Finals.

Winning a Gold medal on her worst event (beam) and taking third in the AA as well as winning the AA at the World University games Aliya is the next nominee for Sportsperson of the year.

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Kyla Ross

December 20, 2013

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Kyla Ross

The title says it all. Silver Lining. Silver at Nationals. Silver at worlds.

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Mai Murakami

December 19, 2013

Nominee. Sportsperson of the year : Mai Murakami

Just because I can I have nominated Mai Murakami for Sportsperson of the year. Marked down points for lack of artistry MY ASS. Mai should have won the floor Gold medal at this years world. She was robbed I tell you ROBBED

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Bridget Sloan

December 18, 2013

First year as a College gymnast after a very disappointing end to her Elite career Bridget made the most of her freshman year helping the Gators win their first National title. She also won the AA and Beam title which helped her win the Honda Award for gymnastics.

I look forward to Bridget erasing Courtney Kupets from the College Gymnastics record books:)

She also did this says Wikipedia

In 2013, at her first NCAA Championship with the Florida team, Sloan captured the All-Around title with a score of 39.600.[18] She then led her team to their first NCAA Championship title, scoring 39.75 all-around.[19] In event finals, Bridget also won the beam title.[20] Bridget is an 8 time All-American, (First Team in All- Around, Bars, Beam and Floor at NCAA Championship competition and First Team for All Around, Bars and Beam and Second Team in Vault in the first National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) All-America regular-season awards)[21] On 29 April Sloan was named as the 2013 recipient of the Honda Award (only the 4th Freshman in the Awards 37 year history and the 2nd consecutive Florida Freshman to win the award)[22]

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Mckayla Maroney

December 17, 2013

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Mckayla Maroney

No one knew what to expect from Mckayla Maroney when she announced she would be going to “Camp” earlier this year and I would have to say she exceeded expectations. National Champion on vault and Floor and World Champion on Vault as well as placing 6th in the AA at worlds in prelims Mckayla had the type of year any gymnast would be proud of so I felt the need to include her as a Nominee for Sportsperson of the year.

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Bailie Key

December 16, 2013

Nominee for Sportsperson of the year : Bailie Key

Bailie can claim something even Simone Biles cannot this year. She won every AA competition she entered. She won Classics, Nationals, Jeselo, The International Junior Mexican Cup and the Junior Japan Invitational and those are just off the top of my head.
