Can Kyla or Simone join the list of US All Around Champions ?

September 27, 2013

Can Kyla or join the list of US All Around Champions ?

The United States has 6 World All Around Champions and a very good shot at having a seventh this year so tell me which of these two do you think has the best shot at winning the 2013 World All Around title?

Clean and consistent Kyla Ross or powerful and explosive Simone Biles?

Simone has the edge in start value. Kyla has the edge in execution. Take your pick?

Remembering the past

Kim Zmeskal started the US’s world AA titles winning in Indianapolis in 1991. Shannon Miller followed it up winning back to back titles in 1993 and 1994. (Outside the US) Then we waited until 2005 when Chellsie Memmel defeated pure evil by the smallest margin imaginable. Shawn Johnson was next in 2007 followed by Bridget Sloan in 2009 and ending with Jordyn Wieber in 2011.

So who do Kyla and Simone remind you of when compared to successful world all around champions of the past?

For me Kyla reminds me of Shannon. Clean, consistent and labeled boring by the people that cannot find a real reason to hate is pretty much the gist of it IMO. Shannon has more rhythm and flow and is a better dancer than Kyla but no one else really fits the question. Kyla isn’t quite an artistic gymnast though she is working on it.

Simone is a combination of all other remaining gymnasts. She reminds me of Shawn or Chellsie on floor. Not much presentation but a hell of a tumbler. On bars she is Bridget. There but nothing special. On beam she is hit or miss. She could be any of them but Zmeskal who was a rock on beam. When it comes to vault I guess she reminds me mostly of Jordyn but only because they both have the Amanar. Simone is dynamic and impressive with her Amanar and that doesn’t really fit anyone else on the list.

Judging by past US World AA champions if I had to garner a guess I would say the judges prefer the Simone Biles of the gym world over the Kyla Ross’s. The US has only one artistic gymnast with a World AA title. In fact she has two of them.

Todays Podium training

Waiting for Sunday

July 28, 2012

Sorry for the lack of updates but I am on vacation the next two weeks so my boss made sure I did all the work I would have been doing before hand. You suck boss.

I am working on the twitter approval. I plan on replying to all the requests so please be patient if you don’t get an e-mail back or approved right away.

I technically have to work Sunday but when I originally agreed to do it I thought I would only be missing mens prelims but it turns out it is womens prelims so I will be calling in sick. There will be live blogging if I can get my butt out of bed at 10 am:)

Off to see what I missed and thanks to everyone that joined twitter. Remember if you want to join you have to leave a reply here with the information and send me any e-mail at I’ll get back to you as soon as I can:)

and my new e-mail is,

So I have been catching up on the Podium training from either today or yesterday. I am not sure. I so far have seen Vault and Bars They still work at this link. Beam and floor have been removed.

The US women were on the Today show today. I have not watched that yet but here is the video I just watched it. I’ll keep quiet on my opinion of it. Lets just say someone needs to teach Mckayla and Gabby a little humility. I hope it doesn’t come by way of a silver medal.

Gymnastike is telling us who the best tumbler is. Do you agree? I have to watch to find out.

The men have their line up. Horton and Mikulak are not doing AA. I guess that is a way to make sure your two “it” gymnasts get to do the AA. This article insists it is all about team but give me a break, IT’S PRELIMS, it really makes no difference who is doing it in the prelims for a team medal. I don’t care enough about the men to care but it just seems unfair that Sam Mikulak isn’t doing the AA.

Horton is doing Pommels?

PH: Horton, Mikulak, Leyva, Orozco
RG: Dalton, Leyva, Orozco, Horton
VT: Leyva, Orozco, Mikulak, Dalton
PB: Mikulak, Horton, Orozco, Leyva
HB: Mikulak, Orozco, Horton, Leyva
FX: Orozco, Leyva, Mikulak, Dalton

Jordyn’s mom has a blog.
It is fun to read.

More podium training info.

Geddert has a new blog. The girls and Marta decide the leotards? GOD HELP US. NO PINK

Ice bathing, the new it thing?
Lordy lord.

and you think gymnastics is f***ed up

December 9, 2011

If you think gymnastics is f***ed up try being a fan of the NBA. Not that I think anyone should support this league full of rich owners that give a crap about nothing but their pockets.

The NBA currently is in control of the New Orleans Hornets. They have a player that will not re-sign with his team so the team is going to trade him. They put together a deal that actually benefitted their team and the NBA has blocked the trade from happening.

The owners of 29 of the NBA teams were all in NY so they could sign the new bargaining agreement so the NBA season could start and when news of the deal was told to the NBA owners they all pitched a fit like the bunch of two-year olds they are so David Stern blocked the trade.

Now the team trading for Chris Paul was the Los Angeles Lakers but unlike other trades (think Ray Allen to Boston for a hill of beans no one can remember) this trade was actually fair and balanced. It not only benefitted the Lakers but it benefitted the Hornets who were getting some pretty good players back in the deal (Lamar Odem anyone)

If you want to put this in gymnastics terms it would be like the coach of the Russian team telling the US Jordyn Wieber is not allowed to compete for the US because it was an unfair advantage.
Then telling Jordyn she is now competing for Russia instead.

The NBA AKA as David Stern has decided the Lakers are too good of a destination and they can’t have Chris Paul but they were all ready to approve a trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the 2011 NBA champion Dallas Mavericks. It is hypocrisy at its best.

Podium Training

October 2, 2011

Now that baseball is dead and buried thanks to a murderer with a hatchet and a cheater and people with no integrity I now get to focus on gymnastics:) Aren’t you lucky.

Interesting tibits from Podium training.

Best news yet is Anna Li did not train. I hope she is named alternate. I can’t stand Gabby but one event gymnasts make me boil. Anna Li seems like a nice kid and she is probably someone I would like in real life but she is a ONE EVENT GYMNAST and they have no place on a World team. Unless their name is He Kexin. I even understand Nastia being named in 07.

The US looks strong a week before competition. Yep peaking a week early.

Jordyn’s coach says she is finally used to the time change and had her best training at the right time, in front of the camera’s.

Russia is having some issues but better now than in a week.

Beth Tweddle just threw up her bar routine today. Go Beth. Every video I have seen of He Kexin so far this year she looks labored and tired. Would love to see Beth win the Olympics next year.

Off to look for more info. Make sure you read the Gymnastike stuff above she has links to some videos. After you watch a video check the left. More videos are there.

Alicia Sacrmaone on beam She looks rock solid in the video. Jordyn can be seen in the same video. Both had one wobble but nice routines overall. It’s weird watching them at the same time. Alicia looks so much more polished next to Jordyn even though Jordyn’s routine has a lot more to it than the code whoring Alicia does.

Viktoria Komova on beam. She nailed her arabian but fell on a full turn. She does look tired.

The whole US Team on beam. Some sloppy work but no falls. It seems so stupid to me to count practice in any shape or form. Certain gymnasts just don;t do well in practice. Gabby Douglas looked aggressive and stayed on but will you really expect that in competition because it happened in training? Most likely, no.

Mckayla Maroney and Sabrina Vega on beam Sabrina looks better on beam than Mckayla does. Something was really weird about the way this team was picked. The alternate cannot replace anyone on bars. Maybe Marta planned on using the alternate to replace Mckayla Maroney.

Aly, Gabby and Jordyn on beam Gabby has a really ugly look on beam but she was solid. This was Aly’s best beam I have seen so far and Jordyn looked better here too.

Beth Tweddle on bars looking awesome. She might be in some of these AA with a decent beam routine because her DTY was better than Romania’s but Beth and beam were always a disaster.

Tatiana Nabieva on bars. Why can’t she keep her feet together like this in competition? She isn’t perfect here but this is a hell of a lot better than during competition. Unlike Ksenia Afanasyeva, who looked like shit in this video.

Sabrina Vega training bars She is not a good bar worker but I do find it VERY interesting she is training on bars but Anna Li is not. Anna has something on her wrist but maybe Marta thinks she needs a solid floor worker for team finals over an UB specialist she can’t use anywhere else. Sabrina paused twice in this video but she stayed on.

Jordyn on vault Her Amanar looked kind of sloppy here but it’s early.

Mckayla Maroney on vault I have never seen her Amanar look this bad. She bent her knee’s and looked like she was having issues getting it around. I really want to see her nail her best one sometime during this worlds (preferably prelims) because I want to see how it scores when she is on. It really is a beautiful vault when she hits it.

Gabriella Douglas and Aly Raisman on bars-The coaches seem impressed with Gabby sticking her dismount but she looked labored during this routine. She also had a few leg separations. No one spotting Aly is not a good idea IMO. Chow looked like he was watching her then he walked away. Aly kept her legs together during that routine. It’s too bad she never will when the competition starts.

Aly Raisman on floor. She nailed her second pass like Gina Gogean but this is the first time I actually get why people think her floor routine has no artistry. No is not an exactly the right turn she is ten steps ahead of the crap Carly Patterson called a floor routine but Aly has like no fluidity in her movements on floor. I did watch without sound so that could be why I actually see why people complained about her. That being said Lauren Mitchell and Cheleru are just as bad if not worse and there is no way in hell they should have beaten Aly last year.

Part one and part two of Anna Dementyeva, stripper floor routine. The first part is watchable. The second part is not. She put her hands down on her second pass. If you are bored skip this routine. I love Anna but I wish I

Alicia Sacramone on floor She looks to be in great shape but she has trouble getting through this routine. She is very winded at the end. I liked this routine at Nationals. I don’t like it here. Maybe if she spent more time training instead of flying off to Denver to watch her boyfriend sit on his ass she would be better able to handle her training. I know she is old and needs less training than most but even though she hit her tumbling this routine is lackluster and frankly not worthy of even being used. Not compared to her teammates.

Gabrielle Douglas on floor. I take it back. Alicia at least has presentation. Old recycled presentation but presentation none the less. This routine has ugly tumbling, horrible incomplete jumps and the ugliest presentation I have ever seen. The music is even horrible. If Aly loses presentation and artistry points this thing should too. What the hell is the dance after the second pass?
She didn’t dance through this routine, she walked through it with no fluidity at all. She makes Aly look like a ballerina. And she ends with a double tuck. 1999 and yes I know it’s a d. I am sorry but that was horrible. What the hell anyone was clapping for is beyond me.

Ksenia-Afanaseva on floor. Ksenia nails her double layout then skips her second pass and runs across the floor. Then she skips another pass.

Mckayla Maroney on floor. Looks like I may have been right. Sabrina is here as a replacement for Mckayla. She hit her 3.5 with a bouncy landing, fell on her second pass and had bumpy landing on everything else. Spotted on her last two passes. Should be interesting to see what happened. John Geddert is clapping and motivating everyone like a good head coach should do. Not like Marta who ignored everyone she didn’t train in 1996.

Jordyn Wieber on floor She is having a few issues on floor with her landings but I think this is a good thing. She needs to peak in a week not now.

Yulia Belokobyskaya on bars. This was just messy. She had two people spotting her. Over spotting her. It looked like they were afraid she would fall and land on her head.

I am bored of watching videos. I am surprised I got through this many. If you have any opinions, share them. I want to hear what you think.

Afanaseva and Ishina Russia is in big trouble on bars without Mustafina. These two girls as well as Demy look horrible on bars.

Viktoria Komova part 1 and part 2 on bars. She looks horrible here again. Form issues galore, mistakes, falls. I hope it is not the pressure getting to her.

Beth Tweddle on floor. She tried to kill herself on floor and thought it was funny. I love Beth Tweddle:) messy routine or not.

Youna Dufornet on bars She hit her def but did have enough momentum to continue on to her next skill. She hit the def heavy and the bar kind of swung down and up but she had her feet together. Yay feet together on her def. This must be a first.

Lauren Mitchell on beam I never would have known it was her if the video didn’t tell me. She looks different. She was her usual sell on beam. She has a lot of difficulty with even more bobbles.

You know what this worlds needs? Anastasia Grishina and Kyla Ross.

More camp 1 info

September 11, 2011

Pretty much what Aunt Joyce said with a little more details. Info from Abomb. I guess he threatened some more people for info and this is what he got:)

-AA results: 1. Jordyn, 2. Gabby, 3. Aly, 4. Sabrina, 5. Macko, 6. Bridgey

-Sac did not verify the new VT, but it was seen in practice at least once.

-Lots of falls on bars, but Gabby is inching closer and closer to being a lock on them, now having hit UB at Klassiks, Nats X 2 plus Dethkamp 1. Either she or Jordyn won UB, both doing great there. Also watch out for the return of McKenzie Wofford – she’s only been out of the cast for her broken metatarsel that kept her out of Championships for one week, but if she can improve that much more between now and 9/21, she should be on one of these teams. Macko finally made her Church-Pak connection in verification, but then strangely fell on the Tkatchev at the end (which she’s NEVER done). Nevertheless, she’s still making a hugely stong case for herself lately. Anna only verified UB and fell, not sure on what Sad

-I think either Shawn or Vega won BB, they both did great on it. Gabby hit her set there and I think Wofford did too.

-Jordyn won FX, but we already knew that from Geddert’s FB or twitter or something, I guess.

At this point, the world team could easily consist of: Sac, Jordyn, Aly, Gabby then maybe Macko, Maroney (did not verify anything b/c of her back), possibly even Wofford. Shawn and Vega are improving but their mutual lack of big UB D-scores makes it really hard to see how they would fit in. Maybe as ALTs? I’d much rather see them lead the Pan Am team.

It will all come down to Dethkamp #2, which will have TWO competitions, all with hard landings.

Nastia Liukin is full of it.

August 17, 2011

This is hilarious. She shows up and tries to steal the spotlight then refuses the interview requests claiming she is doing it for the betterment of the athletes competing.

If Nastia really cared about the athletes getting credit she would do what every other gymnast does, sit in the crowd and watch. All athlete reps do this.

I have seen her myself in the past practically follow the photogs around begging for attention. Then jump from gymnast to gymnast screaming hello and pulling them closer to her for a hug. I commented on how she did it to Kim Zmeskal’s husband last year and he just gave her this look of “Why is she hugging me”

Here is the link.

A number of media attending the 2011 Visa Championships media day have inquired about interviewing Nastia Liukin, the 2008 Olympic all-around champion. Nastia is attending the Visa Championships in her role as an athlete representative for the women’s program of USA Gymnastics and as an announcer with Universal Sports.

“As an athlete, I understand the importance of this event, and it’s the time for these athletes to shine as they pursue lifelong dreams of representing the United States. There are many great stories about this Visa Championships, which I think is going to be incredible. I appreciate the interest shown by the media to speak with me, and in a different setting, I would be happy to grant interviews. For this weekend, however, I thank you for respecting my decision to decline such requests.”

Ross wins junior US Classics. Judges hold up Ohashi again

July 23, 2011

This is getting really ridiculous. Kaitlyn Ohashi seems like a nice kid and she is an amazing gymnast but trying to hold her up every time she competes because she is coached by Valeri is not doing her any favors.

Kyla bars

Kaitlyn bars
Kaitlyn beam

Ohashi fell twice (once off beam and once on floor) and almost put her hand down on her messy ugly dismount on bars yet she would have won over a clean (albeit messy on beam) Kyla Ross with only 1 fall and a near fall?

1-Kyla Ross 15.250 15.000 14.650 13.950 58.850
2-Lexie Priessman 15.450 13.650 14.800 14.150 58.050
3-Katelyn Ohashi 14.550 15.000 14.950 13.450 57.950

Learning to live again is killing me

June 11, 2011

I know how Garth feels. Teary eyed and tragic with very little hope of surviving. Oh hell yes I am over dramatic but learning to live again is a tough thing.

This is not love related the boy is something unique I never plan on giving up but I needed to update this blog with something.

Gymnastics is pretty dead right now.

I want to know who Legendre is sleeping with to get these assignments.

Kayla Hoffman won another award. There is also a great article about her boyfriend running around during a tornado to find her which is actually very endearing. I’ll see if I can find it online.

I can’t but here is a different article about her.

Now about this learning to live again thing. What will I do with myself after next week?

Paul Hamm plans on gracing out TV’s for Nationals. Maybe. Don’t go earn that spot Paul.

I promised to lay off him if he competed this year instead of just trying to steal all the glory from everyone in 2012 and I will do my best to do just that.

Aly Raisman will go to College at Florida. Not a surprise when you consider Macko is practially her stalker on Don’t blame me otehrs love to share info.

Giving some props to Nabieva

April 7, 2011

I am not imagining the execution improvement here am I? Because this looked a lot better then the crap she did at Worlds last year.

Maybe I am just in denial because Mustafina looks like she has been working on form too??? At least on bars.
