Welcome to Beijing

January 31, 2022

Where China gets to try and convince the world they are a communist regime that treats their own people like crap. Now, don’t hate on me. I love the Chinese. I even wanted to visit China before they released a virus on the world that tried to kill us all. (Ooops)

Here are some Summer Olympians welcoming the winter Olympians. Very cool to hear everyone speak English. Winter Olympics start on the 4th. I need to find a schedule. I wasn’t planning on posting about it until, you know, the controversy starts. Then we have too 🙂

The last US camp. [Lexie Zeiss] I saw Jong videos somewhere but can’t find them now.

King Kohei retires. Farewell competition in Japan in March

January 12, 2022

Kohei will do the AA at a goodbye meet with no scores in March. I SOO want to start a go fund me to go 😦 A great article by Blythe Lawrence that appeared in, The Japan Times.

So much for never having another retirement blog .

I can’t write this goodbye. The gymnastics Gods had 2 FREAKING CHANCES to right the ending for Kohei and send him out with Gold in his home Country and both times those same gymnastics Gods forgot to show up. (Honestly, I feel like the Japanese men got lowballed in their own Country at the 2021 Worlds. Competitions in Japan are always suspect as hell. Ask Michelle Kwan and go watch the 95 Worlds for gymnastics)

[Article]

The Kohei announced he wasn’t done and I was a bit, ecstatic. That lasted a month.

Kohei made men’s gymnastics watchable. Judges in the All Around always rewarded his near perfect form and amazing performances with the Gold medals he deserved but Event Finals judges made sure to always keep him down. They couldn’t have him dominating the AA and Event Finals at the same time and instead rewarded ugly form in the name of 4 tenths in start value. Damn, this wasn’t supposed to be a celebration of the amazing Kohei Uchimura and now I’m just getting mad all over again. (I SAID MAD)

Thanks for the memories Kohei. You will forever be the guy I compare every male gymnast to and they will never compare.

P.S.- Whoever wrote that article above sucks. What a throw away goodbye to the best male gymnast of all time. Someone needs to do better.

It’s official. US FIGURE SKATING SAVED BY A KWAN BABY plus 2021 Skating Nationals. Bell, Alysa, Karen are your Olympic team (Alternates, Thorngren, Glenn, Izzo)

January 5, 2022

Looks like no husband or boyfriend is involved but when you’re 40 years old you do what you wanna do. US FIGURE SKATING IS SAVED. I wondered where she had been. We haven’t seen her on the ice for a while.

The ironic thing is I started watching the movie, Armageddon and the background song for Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck’s love story is, Dante’s Prayer which Michelle Kwan skated too. My first thought of course was, MICHELLE KWAN when hearing the music. Coincidence? I think not.

2021 US NATIONALS

Results [SP] {Judges details}

Quick men’s SP update. Chen is in the lead but only by 3 points. His last combination was off a bit but they actually gave Vincent some great GOE and they are close. {Full details} I was shocked. Nationals judges PCS are funny. Brown has a scratchy landing on his last combination and is in 4th. Results are in the bolded results above. Not interested in the jumping competition but had to mention how close the scores were for Vincent and Chen and at Nationals no less.

Ladies Long Program [LP Results only] {Judges Details} [Full Results]

Mariah Bell 216.25 S Karen Chen 213.85 B Isabeau Levito 210.75 4 Gabriella Izzo 188.11 5 Lindsay Thorngren 186.38 6 Audrey Shin 180.58 7 Kate Wang 178.20 8 Hanna Harrell 175.66

I’ll be honest with you if we are going by PCS, Chen should be way ahead of Mariah and since their tech was very close (and I mean very close) Chen is much more watchable. Chen must have been downgraded on a lot of her jumps. Olympic team will be named tomorrow.

Gold choked and doubled most of her jumps and for once they didn’t PCS her to death to prop her up. Mariah wasn’t perfect, neither was Karen. I really felt like Isabeau should have won the long but they gave it to Mariah. Didn’t like Wang’s LP but she was still lowballed in the short. Audrey Shin is a beautiful skater but her jumps are a mess. I don’t know. I feel like Chen should have won. Mariah is a better jumper. Chen is a better artist. I guess it could have gone either way. Harrell needs to stop putting her arms above her head. It looks ridiculous. It’s just ugly. Izzo finishing 4th was a surprise. Good for her. (#TEAMBOSTON) Isabeau is a very good skater but listening to the terrible trip pump her up makes it hard to want to see her succeed. Watching live I thought they would first give it to Isabeau because the 139 plus was huge. Mariah was kind of messy but they gave her 140 in the long. The it looked like Chen would win. Then Johnny and Terror changed their mind and I knew they had the results before us (They aren’t smart enough to figure this out beforehand) And of course, Rippon had to make Mariah’s win about himself. He was all over her Raphael was nowhere to be seen after the kiss and cry.

Short Program (Kate Wang was lowballed) **With nothing to lose I see Amber Glenn throwing the kitchen sink in the LP which is tomorrow night.

Mariah Bell leads SP. (Tripletriple looked cheated but she got credit) Karen was second. (VERY close cheated triple triple) Alysa fell and was third (Huge late X-Mas gift. She probably should have had her other triple downgraded. Isabeau Levito was 4th. I get she is a pretty skater somewhat but Terror and Johnny in Nastia pink overdid her strength. Lindsay Thorngren in 5th. All jumps. Gracie Gold cheated her triple-triple and was downgraded and never even attempted any speed and was given the biggest gift overall. ( Only getting -1 by 2 judges on a clearly cheated TT) Gabrielle Izzo was 7th, Kate Wang who I thought was great was totally lowballed to 8th and Audrey Shin who is a beautiful skater was 9th (I think she messed up her triple-triple and didn’t get credit for the second jump because it wasn’t connected but the rest was beautiful. Amber Glenn didn’t do the triple axel and then screwed up her triple-triple and is way down in 14th out of 16 skaters. That is a huge choke for a girl some thought had a chance to make the Olympics. Starr Andrews also screwed up like she always does and was in 11th.

_______

Bradie Tannell is out and will petition to the Olympic team. If she is healthy enough to skate I say take her. She did enough last year to merit a spot. No way anyone but Chen wins mens. The over-scoring of gross Leduc and Cain continues. (Never got the hype) and Ice dance has their 3 teams. Lindsay Thorngren had a triple axel but she rarely seems to land it. She’s your dark horse. Karen Chen has been nailing practices according to Jackie Wong. Which usually means she tanks when it matters. Annoying Gracie gold has been hitting her triple triples too. USFSA loves to prop up her PCS. Alysa Liu will probably win. Mariah Bell might surprise. I read she got the highest score during the grand prix events. Tho I don’t remember where. Ladies S Start list. SP is tonight. NBC video link though it says it is temporary. Michelle Kwan having a baby is more exciting than this event. Youtube will have an international feed. Wish I lived anywhere else to avoid terror. Junior Ladies results I love the junior gymnasts but never pay much attention to the skating. Josephine Lee is the only one I have ever heard of. There was a video of her up as a really young skater and she had such potential. She finished 3rd.
