Can Kyla or Simone join the list of US All Around Champions ?

September 27, 2013

Can Kyla or join the list of US All Around Champions ?

The United States has 6 World All Around Champions and a very good shot at having a seventh this year so tell me which of these two do you think has the best shot at winning the 2013 World All Around title?

Clean and consistent Kyla Ross or powerful and explosive Simone Biles?

Simone has the edge in start value. Kyla has the edge in execution. Take your pick?

Remembering the past

Kim Zmeskal started the US’s world AA titles winning in Indianapolis in 1991. Shannon Miller followed it up winning back to back titles in 1993 and 1994. (Outside the US) Then we waited until 2005 when Chellsie Memmel defeated pure evil by the smallest margin imaginable. Shawn Johnson was next in 2007 followed by Bridget Sloan in 2009 and ending with Jordyn Wieber in 2011.

So who do Kyla and Simone remind you of when compared to successful world all around champions of the past?

For me Kyla reminds me of Shannon. Clean, consistent and labeled boring by the people that cannot find a real reason to hate is pretty much the gist of it IMO. Shannon has more rhythm and flow and is a better dancer than Kyla but no one else really fits the question. Kyla isn’t quite an artistic gymnast though she is working on it.

Simone is a combination of all other remaining gymnasts. She reminds me of Shawn or Chellsie on floor. Not much presentation but a hell of a tumbler. On bars she is Bridget. There but nothing special. On beam she is hit or miss. She could be any of them but Zmeskal who was a rock on beam. When it comes to vault I guess she reminds me mostly of Jordyn but only because they both have the Amanar. Simone is dynamic and impressive with her Amanar and that doesn’t really fit anyone else on the list.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Judging by past US World AA champions if I had to garner a guess I would say the judges prefer the Simone Biles of the gym world over the Kyla Ross’s. The US has only one artistic gymnast with a World AA title. In fact she has two of them.
Chellsie Memmel Officially retires and Vote
November 14, 2012
Vote in the Inside Gymnastics poll. Lets make sure we all vote Shannon Miller as best commentator. Maybe NBC will see it and fire the idiots currently doing the commentating.
I really wanted to vote Nastia as best half ass’d comeback but since the word half ass’d was missing I voted for Alicia instead:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is a new article from an unapproved comment

The most interesting comment

Memmel said she and her father and coach, Andy, considered sticking around for next year’s world championships, where competition will be limited to individual events. But she decided against it, unsure she’d have the support of national team coordinator Martha Karolyi.

I am not exactly sure why she had an official announcement to retire (Non of the Mag seven did this, God even Nastia didn’t) but I do love how USA-Gymnastics has all of a sudden found love for Chellsie Memmel after you know, paying her off:)

Lets discuss? I wish she would not retire and go out with a bang but I guess training for one more Nationals would be a waste of time.

Chellsie will always be one of my favorites for her ability to shut the world up when they count her out and even with her bad form she was one hell of a gymnast. It’s too bad injuries pretty much robbed her of a chance at being America’s most decorated gymnast.

~~~~~~
What are your favorite Chellsie memories? Mine will always be seeing her in person kick some ass at the 2003 Worlds. Marta didn’t want her there but after all the injuries she had no choice and Chellsie came and proved the old bitch wrong.
That and the 2008 Olympic Trials day 2 floor routine. Chellsie was the original Aly Raisman
I am exhausted
June 11, 2012
I don’t usually get stressed over sports that aren’t baseball but I can’t tell you just how stressed out I have been over the last week and a half I can’t imagine what the gymnasts ere going through. This is tough.
I sit here watching Nastia Liukin screw up left and right getting a free pass to Nationals and I can’t help but think about how hard it must have been for Chellsie to sit there timing beam. She should have been on that beam given the chance for redemption. Instead Nastia gets a literal free pass to the Olympic Trials on name alone and all Chellsie got was a damn stop watch she can’t keep.
Then I think of Nastia and her arrogance. She could not hit her 6.5 set either day at Nationals yet she mentions an upgrade for a Trials she hasn’t even earned the right to compete at. The longer she stayed in the competition the worse her gymnastics got and for her to even want a spot at Trials kind of makes me sick to my stomach.
I am a known Nastia hater but I was scared for her safety her first night on bars. I thought she was going to kill herself with that routine. My stomach was a mess for twenty minutes after but there she sits, just a day later smiling like she earned that spot at Trials.
Anyone else would have bowed out gracefully. When all is said and done my impression of Nastia only got worse by the way she acted at Nationals. The self entitlement. The attitude. That is what I am going to remember about her entire career.
I know it’s not just me because I read the comment section but Gabby Douglas gets more annoying by the day. Maybe its me. I am more find of gymnasts that work hard and don’t feel the need to boost to the world, “All eyes are on me,” she said. “I’m going to do this thing and I’m going to do it up.” for attention. The arrogance Nastia has is finding a new body to possess.
Do we even need to discuss the judging? From Nastia on beam and bars to Gabby on every event. I think these girls are in for a huge awakening at the Olympics.
The worst part of this blog is it didn’t start with Jordyn Wieber, the 2012 National AA Champion. Instead we discuss the cockyness of Gabby Douglas and the judges having their heads up their butts. We discuss Chellsie Memmel being screwed over and Nastia being given a free pass, Something even her biggest fanatics can’t even excuse away any more. (I was wrong. Marta can excuse it away. Speechless here. Just speechless Thanks Jas for the article)
Chellsie Talks and SIGN the petition
June 1, 2012
SIGN the petition
Listen to it here
Chellsie is doing okay. It is a very tough time and thinks it is a little harder when others make the decisions. Would have liked to have made it through a little further, at least Nationals
Plans on starting a new chapter of her life.
She is disappointed and expressed those feelings to USA-Gymnastics. It must be a hard decision for usa-g to make but it was hard on her, disappointing that they don’t want to give her a chance. Things happen for a reason and this is what they decided.
Lots of fans support, mentions the petition. Could not ask for better fans.
Announcers keep trying to goad her into the political discussions. Admits there is politics in every sport, life, jobs , everything. She had dealt with politics before. Doesn’t think it will ever change.
Is taking things day at by day time. Wants to tour and see the fans. Took the judges course. Can do that if she chooses. Maybe College. Loves to learn.
Gymnastics has been her life for twenty plus years but it’s scary it won’t be the for front anymore.
She will root for the US. The girls work hard. She will watch the Olympics.
Chellsie was all class in this interview but USA-gymnastics wouldn’t know what that word means.
New Chellsie Memmel update. May 29th
May 29, 2012
Nope there is no update. I LIED Muhaha. Why did I lie because this poll needs more signatures and if you have not signed it get your butts in gear.
It has to be at least at 2000. I realize media backlash is dying down so please make sure you e-mail Steve Penny if you haven’t.
Even if you don’t think Chellsie deserves to go to Nationals one thing she does deserve is to go out how she wants to go out, competing.
If you need a little bit of motivation to sign this petition watch this youtube video below. It’s of Chellsie ending Trials last year. She closed out the show and brought down the house. This is the ending she deserves.
If watching Marta stand up and clap with that pompous fake smile on her face doesn’t make you want to spite her than you don’t deserve to be a gymnastics fan.
Here is the link to the petition
I am pretty sure this is thee, Kathy Johnson (Houston, TX)
and
Paul Ruggeri (manlius, NY) just did
NBC Linked the petition. Thanks to EXGymgurl and Lindsey. One for the info and the other for the link.
The end of Chellsie’s Memmel career
May 27, 2012
Read Marta’s excuse about Chellsie and how she blamed it on the committee. I wonder if Nastia gets a vote even though her name is not mentioned
Just when I thought Marta couldn’t get any lower she does something that makes me literally want to smack her fucking ass right back to Romania.
Chellsie Memmel went to Classics and on the advice of Marta chose to only compete beam. She then fall twice. When the meet was over the former World Champions petition to Nationals had been denied.
Fine, I get it. She fell twice but that didn’t stop Marta was allowed Shawn Johnson to compete at Nationals last year after she messed up.
It didn’t stop Marta from naming Nastia Likuin to the Nationals team after she went to camp and did nothing to earn her the position of National team member.
Chellsie Memmel is a former world champion and on the advice of Marta she chose to compete only beam at this years Classics even though she couldn’t stay on the damn event during podium training.
We all know that if Nastia had fallen off beam twice tonight she would have been granted the petition but there is no way in hell Marta Karolyi was going to let Chellsie Memmel pull a Chellsie Memmel and show up at Nationals and Trials better then ever. She couldn’t take the chance.
Crazy ass bloggers
May 22, 2012
The WTF Blog
Sometimes people write blogs that sound crazy. So mother ******* crazy I could see it happening. In fact before Kyla Ross did so well at the Pac Rims and Jeselo this bloggers opinion was my freaking nightmare. I guess that is why I had to re-write this blog after my original headline of “When people write stupid blogs”
If you read the blog above I am sure you easily figured out the opinions I found insane.
Lets start with,
It should be of concern to the younger gymnasts that even the very concept of Nastia competing is the most interesting thing to happen in US gymnastics this year.
Um, no. I seem to remember a lot of people being pretty excited about Gabby Douglas at the American Cup (though not me) I am a lot more excited to see what Chellsie Memmel pulls out of her ass than I give a shit about what Nastia is going to show us on beam. That could be just me though.
While a bar routine with something around a 7.0 D-Score would be her golden ticket to London, let’s not discount beam. She won’t be able to muster the huge difficulty in the 6.5-6.7 range that we’ll see from some others in London because she doesn’t have any E+ acro skills, but she will be capable of a very clean routine with low-6s difficulty, which would be useful in Team Finals. Kyla Ross needs to watch out for Nastia because if Nastia proves more useful on bars and beam, we could be looking at a situation where Ross is not top three on any event come Trials (especially because I’m not sold on the landing of that Amanar), and that’s a very dangerous position for a five-member team.
While I thought Marta might screw over Kyla in favor of Nastia I never thought Nastia could make this team over Kyla because she might pull out a clean beam routine. That is just plain ridiculous. (Notice I did not use the word stupid) No one has a cleaner beam routine then Kyla. No one has better leaps then Kyla either especially not Nastia damn Likun. I don’t care what Nastia code whores on beam if she outscored Kyla with a hit routine then these judges need to be tarred and feathered.
If anything a clean Nastia should scare Gabby Douglas more then Kyla Ross. Gabby is only good at bars and she gives us nothing on beam, floor and vault when we don;t know if she will quit in the middle of a routine like she did on vault at the Pac Rims and Beam at Nationals last year. If Marta trusts her for a beam or floor routine in team finals she should get her head examined.
-Alicia Sacramone and Shawn Johnson are not competing here, news that is hardly news. Johnson appears like she will never be able to adequately recover from her injuries, and Chow has been muttering about her missing Championships, which is the reddest of flags. Sacramone needs every day she can get to try to get those routines back, so it’s no surprise she’s missing out. I’ll be impressed if she can get her old routines back by Championships/Trials, but old routines don’t help people make Olympic teams.
You mean like the beam routine you said would put Nastia over the top ? I did read this blogger say that Nastia on beam could take Kyla off this team correct?
Now if the blogger read this blog PLEASE don’t take offense. It will be slow around here until Classics in a few days. Your blog is the first thing to light a fire under me in, days. Thanks for that:)
The Olympic Trials. What if ______ falls three times?
March 2, 2012
whatif2
There is no secret camp after Trials this year to hide the Marta decision making process. Does that mean hitting at Trials is essential to making the Olympic team?
If someone like Jordyn has a bad meet it won’t hurt her chances but what is Rebecca Bross falls 3 times. Does she get the same benefit Jordyn will get?
Rebecca Bross is a very inconsistent gymnast. She won two AA medals with falls. She has only competed in one team finals at Worlds and while she did not fall she had several bobbles on beam (but still scored well) She has a high start value on bars but usually only scores in the 14.8 range when she hits. Does she have enough of a reputation to put her on this team if she falters at Trials?
What about the complete opposite of the spectrum. Chellsie Memmel loves to hit when you least expect it. She could finish top 2 at Trials and throw a huge monkey wrench into deciding the Olympic team. With no secret camp to hide behind would Marta name her to the team if the other AA gymnasts make mistakes?
I guess the real question is, If a gymnast known for being inconsistant like Rebecca Bross falls all over the place at Nationals and Trials will Marta dare name her to the Olympic team?
What about Nastia. She has not competed in 3 years. If she goes to Nationals and hits one of two routines then goes to trials and does the same does she get named to this team anyway?
What if Gabby hits bars on both days and lives up to her ridiculous AA score at a camp meet. Would Marta name Nastia over Gabby and would there be any backlash if she did?
None of this will probably even matter come June. There is no way Marta will be forced into adding a gymnast to this team if she doesn’t want said gymnast on the team. She will make sure the judges keep that gymnast down. Take note Chellsie Memmel. This will probably be you.
World Champions say whaaaat?
November 19, 2011
bridget_1
How do you have a photo shoot for Olympic hopefuls and leave out not one but two World AA Champions?
We don’t really know why Bridget Sloan and Chellsie Memmel weren’t at the photo shoot for Olympic hopefuls set up by NBC over the week but being it’s, NBC they probably weren’t invited.
Not inviting Chellsie is one thing. Her AA title is so last quad but Bridget Sloan is the first AA World Champion the US had in this new quad to forget she even exists is just plain wrong.
Shame on you NBC. I hope Bridget Sloan takes this slight and kicks ass at Nationals.
