The FIG should be disbanded and take the IOC with it

Gymnastics is the MOST popular sport in the Olympics. This makes no sense

They need to add spots to.the team or at least leave it alone not take more away. If they are worried about counties not being represented then add more specialist spots don’t take away from everyone else. Or get coaches and funding for those countries so they can qualify without having to change everything for everyone else. More people from those countries would be interested in seeing their gymnast/team be competitive at the Olympics than having one gymnast who people may not even know is competing because they aren’t competing on the same level with everyone else. Maybe they could get funding for gymnast with potential from those countries and their coaches to spend time in other countries learning new skills and training techniques.

Grandi is a passive-aggressive dick. He is trying to destroy the sport as it is and turn it into something different. After Simone dominated Worlds last year, he made a comment about how if he wanted to, he could decimate the sport and make it artistic only with little emphasis on power (a cheap shot at Simone). i’m paraphrasing but that’s close enough. Why do the people keep electing him? He is mad with power!

    • gymbot Says:

He is elected because lesser FIG nations vote for him – the rules that aim to include other nations are appealing to the nations that are unlikely to qualify a full time to the Olympics. The idea is that maybe a level 10 like gymnast in another country makes it to the olympics, young men and women will dream and then work hard to emulate or better that individuals success, thus growing the sport of gymnastics. Whether or not this happening is debatable. The obvious solution to me is to increase the number athletes that can compete at the Olympics, especially given it’s tier one status. Athletics, another tier one sport, had over 2000 athletes compete.

Qualifications for the Olympics is extreme, either be one of the best 8 teams in the world or a medalist in any final. Qualifications at the test event favors AA gymnasts. But at the end of the day, only 98 WAG and 98 MAG gymnasts will compete in Rio.

Gymnastics should be allowed to adopt the “A” standard – as in track in field. Perhaps at World Cup Events, Continental Championships or Games: if an athlete were to achieve X score and they should automatically have a spot. They can limit entries this way 2 per NOC, as athletics does 3 per event per country. All they would have to do is make the scores difficult but obtainable – 58 AA, 15+ score on vault, bars or beam, and maybe a 14.6+ on floor?

  3. Exgymgurl Says:

honestly this does nothing to help anyone. especially in the US. Teams of six would help romania and russia be more competitive because they could bring event specialists to boost tem scores. Going to four essentially forces the mckayla maroneys out of team competition. Because you have to stock a team with four AA gymnasts. If anyone on that four man team gets hurt you have one shot to fill in. It even makes it hard to justify romania bringing catalina ponor and not having a team backup on bars. its ridiculous

  4. ilanchik20 Says:

I remember hearing about this a while ago but I didn’t actually think he was serious, ugh? Who else votes on this? Isn’t Beth Tweddle the athlete rep now? I certainly hope the committee is smart to not pass this?

I still don’t understand why they reduced the team to a 5. If Gymnastics is a level 1 sport during Olympics, shouldn’t we get more air time? Or keep 6 members but still compete 4 and 3 in finals. Romania and Russia has very few AA gymnasts now–this would essentially make US even more dominant, I thought he wanted to reduce any countries domination? Basically this makes no sense.

I don’t want to watch a bunch of level 10 gymnastics at Olympics. I want to watch Asac, Wieber and Maroney at Olympics–I don’t care what country they are from. So really if he wants to do something good–increase the team back to 6 and get rid of the 2 per country rule. Still bitter that Gabby made it over Jordyn and that Asac wasn’t on the 2012 team so she could get a vault medal.

And while we are on this topic? Does anyone know the new vault rule? Something that had to do with preventing people who fall in vault finals from medaling? Isn’t it an extra deduction for falling now?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

They were going to average something but scrapped it after 1 meet. I never understood what they were going to do. I am all for a once you fall you are out of competition rule but no one else wants to go that way with me.lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

GTT I want to go with you on that one. Pisses me off to no end a FALL on a major apparatus can still result in a medal. This is ONLY the case for vault. Anyone else ever hear of a fall on beam or bars or floor and the athlete still medaling? Nope. There’s a problem there, folks. A fall should basically mean a deduction of like 5 points, and done. That’s basically how it’s done on beam/bars/floor – a fall never results in a medal unless the rest of the competition is truly, really weak.

I was pissed in 2008 when ASac didn’t even medal for two solid, well performed vaults and Fei got bronze for sitting on her butt. The Korean won gold with absolutely horrible form. I still just don’t get it.

This sport is going where figure skating has already gone.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

One of the Chinese won a silver with a fall on beam. I forget who but the thing was damn near perfect til she fell and Nastia I think won the gold.

      • TrishaG Says:

It was Li Shanshan, in 2007. Falls weren’t a full point then (just .8) and she had a ridiculously high D-score. I think she basically had the value of a fall as a cushion in her start value over everyone else.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Different codes. Now I remember. I just remember the beautiful routine , the fall and the fact Nastia lucked into a gold medal.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Ok, but even so that is just one routine, and everything else was perfect (usually if a gymnast falls, they’re so shaken up something else happens during the routine). You fall on your butt at vault that’s the end of the routine anyways.

And if a fall was only .8 of a point, it’s not as bad.

It’s like diving. A perfectly executed dive will have very little splash. It can be gorgeous and flawless in the air, but if you over-rotate or under-rotate at the end and have a large splash, you’re done. No medal. Not so much for sitting on your butt at the end of a vault. And that makes no sense.

      • TrishaG Says:

Yeah, it was an amazing routine. I think that’s why it isn’t used as much as an example of why it’s not right to get a medal with a fall. She was another level than everyone else and really her only flaw was the fall. I hate it when athletes win medals with falls…and yet I’m okay with Li Shanshan’s medal. I think it’s the only one I agree with. She was so perfect and yet had so much more difficulty.

But I’ll never agree with a gymnast falling on vault and winning a medal. As great as Maroney is, I don’t think she should have gotten a medal. But I also can’t agree with Paseka getting silver, not for the crap she chucked in that final. Vault EFs have gone drastically downhill since they stopped allowing warm up vaults on the podium before competing. There have been more injuries and more falls since they stopped allowing the podium vault warmup. The other events haven’t really been affected by not allowing warmups on the podium equipment immediately before competing. But vault has been, so the warm up should be allowed again. If we decrease the falls in vault EFs, then the issue of winning with a fall will hopefully self-correct.

      • Case Says:

I’d go that way with you GTT. You want a medal, you at least have to land the vault. Otherwise Yamilet Pena will keep chucking the Produnova while the rest of us cringe in horror.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They need bigger deductions then we have now for her vault alone

      • gymbot Says:

Well, I tried to post something here but I’m not sure what happened to it. Vaulting does have to be overhauled.

The gist of my comment was that the current system averages the deductions – so a fall is only 0.5 for vault. When you consider the bonus to your score for raising your vault one level (per vault family), you are actually only risking a 0.3 deduction for a 0.2 gain (assumes you can land a vault you chuck).

The proposed change would have fixed this problem (only averaging the D scores, adding the deductions of both vaults to be taken from a 10.000)

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s probably in spam.I will check tomorrow when I am not the boys phone. If it had a link it needs to be approved.

      • gymbot Says:

Well, it’s basically the above comment anyway. I wouldn’t bother you to post it. No link, but perhaps too long

  5. TrishaG Says:

The reason they reduced the team from 6 to 5 was to allow more individuals to qualify, which is why there was the qualifying event for individuals as well as for teams before London in 2012. However, they could allow the same number of individual competitors with 6-member teams if they drop the number of teams from 12 to 10. The teams that qualify in 11th and 12th place aren’t going to medal. At most, they’re trying to reach the team final. The other teams, especially the top five, are probably leaving home someone more talented than the most talented person on the 11th and 12th place teams.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yup I agree. Take out 2 teams then – those 2 teams are probably not even level 10 gymnasts. They won’t ever have a shot of medaling and nobody wants to see them on TV anyways. If the Olympics is all about viewership (which it is, and sponsors and $$$) then make it exciting, bring back the specialists, and let us see more high quality caliber gymnastics. It’s not like they show the Lituanian on bars anyways if she’s not in the top 10 individually. Give me a break.

All this does is make it an AA sport – no specialists. Which is really a travesty since we all want to see that Maroney vault at the Olympics. That was something special even though she didn’t get the bonus points for it. It was still something I think will be re-played over and over.

Bring back the compulsories and make it 4 up 3 count. That way we get to see more gymnastics in general. Make it 10 teams and then more individuals can qualify for the event finals, whatever.

That Grandi guy probably is paying someone off…it’s all politics why these idiots get voted in again and again. It’s just like in our own country why people keep voting the same idiots in office and then wondering why they are worse off financially. Ugh.

      • TrishaG Says:

I would love to see 4 up 3 count for team finals. Not just because we’d see more gymnastics, which is already reason enough. But also because it’s safer for gymnasts in case they get injured during a routine. Right now, if a gymnast lands their first tumbling pass wrong and injures themselves, they have to keep going for their team to have any medal hope. If they stop the exercise because of the injury, their team will have to absorb a super low score and will likely drop to last place. The only team that can possibly hang on to a medal in that scenario is the US WAG team because they win by 5+ points anyways. Even then, they’d need someone to get halfway through their routine before the injury because they’d probably need a 7 or 8 to earn a medal still.

There really should be some sort of injury option during a team final for the athlete’s safety so they don’t feel the pressure to try to carry on if they’ve injured themselves during a routine. There should be an option to drop that score if someone gets injured and can’t complete their routine safely, and to allow a 4th gymnast to compete instead. The injured gymnast would not be allowed to compete on any other events for the remainder of the team final (which would keep this from being used if someone has just messed up badly).

I think we’ve been very lucky that there hasn’t been a bad injury in the middle of a routine yet since 3 up 3 count went into effect. But you can’t count on luck forever. Just imagine if Gina Gogean’s famous 1994 beam crash happened during a World or Olympic final now. Would the judges still order her to stop so she could be checked out? If they do, Romania loses all hopes for a medal. If they don’t, they’re allowing a potentially concussed athlete to compete and possibly injure herself further.

  6. ilanchik20 Says:

I agree with you all–if you fall, you shouldn’t get a medal, I don’t care about the difficulty. Asac should have gotten a medal in 2008. That was pathetic. It’s one of the reasons I wanted her on the 2012 team. With Maroney’s fall, she would have easily won gold. And if the team had 6 people, j think Asac would have been that 6th person. Ugh. I’m still bitter lol

And yes, no matter how pretty Maroney’s vaults are–she fell–she shouldn’t have gotten that silver. Asac had every right to be upset in 2008, Maroney is a whole diff story.

I feel like fans should have a say in this? How come there is no fan rep on that committee? I vote you in G!

  7. ilanchik20 Says:

Off topic but why is Nastia still getting gear from Team USA (as she posted.) I do not want to see her at 2016 trials lol

P.S. G, sorry for posting a Nastia photo here!

  8. Case Says:

Can’t remember if this has already been posted, but here’s an interesting take by Sports Illustrated on the NCAA/Olympic rule impacts.

    http://www.si.com/more-sports/2015/04/15/jordyn-wieber-ucla-student-manager-ncaa-olympics

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I have no problem with the rule as it is now because you get a free education when you compete for your school. The difference between Jordyn and football players is there is no sport for her to get paid doing once she is done with gymnastics. If there was a pro league she could make money with then I couldn’t see her being allowed to do both but I have no clue why gymnastics isn’t considered a different entity. Then again these kids get perks to attend certain Colleges even if those Colleges won’t admit it.

  9. Brittany Says:

Honestly though, is there anything we can do about this, petition wise? Because this is absolutely ridiculous!

  10. Tortuga Says:

I’m already unhappy with only a 5 member team with 3 up 3 count in team finals, It’s over in the blink of an eye. I want to watch more routines.

At this rate the team will go down to 3 in 2028 leaving only one person out of the AA. Would team format go to 2 up 2 count? Is that even really a team competition? Or would all have to compete and count?

Like what Trisha said there are no options to drop a score if a gymnast gets hurt on the floor. And she will feel obligated to keep pushing because otherwise she lets her country down. This is a big problem.

    I like a combo of everyone’s ideas.
    * Go back to 6 member teams
    * Bring back compulsories
    * 10 teams qualify to TF, 4 up 3 count format
    * Ditch 2 per country (I’m not sure if it should be 3 or just straight up top 24)
    * Disqualification or heavy deduction for falls in VT finals.

    • JK Says:

@ Tortuga, “at this rate the team will go down to 3 in 2028.” lol. Yes, and by 2032 the team will go down to 2; and by 2036 the team will go down to 1; and by 2040 gymnastics will be eliminated altogether from the Olympics Games… because Bruno Grandi, the FIG and the IOC are so removed from reality that they do not see how they are destroying the sport of gymnastics.

I agree, I want to see 6-member teams come back. However, if they keep the 5-member teams, I want to see 4 up 3 count instead of the 3 up 3 count. And a definite yes to bringing back compulsories.

    • TrishaG Says:

Oh jeez, can you imagine a 3 or 2 person team?? Would it still be a team with just two people or would it become pairs gymnastics?

I’d love for compulsories to return, but I think it’s been too long and it’s not going to happen at this point. I definitely want 6 member teams again, with 10 teams in the qualification round and 5 up 4 count. I’m not picky as to how many should qualify to TF, but they should have a 4 up 3 count format.

I’m with Tortuga on ditching the 2 per country rule. I’d actually like to see gymnastics borrow from figure skating on this one: do a tiered system of AA spots per country based on results from the prior year. If the top two placements for one country add up to 13 or under, they earn three spots for the following year. There are placement totals to hit to earn two spots, and if you miss those, you earn one spot. Also, increase the AA field to 28 or 32.

Finally, I HATE having ranked rotations in AA! The cameras just stay with the top 6, even when they’re just waiting for scores. There’s much less suspense because it’s easy to keep track of scores when everyone is on the same event. You basically know how it’ll finish before the last rotation begins. It’s much harder to do that when top contenders are scattered across all 4 apparatus. They need to return to a random draw again.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Your entire comment is everything the FUG will never do.lol

      • TrishaG Says:

Ugh, I know. But it all makes so much sense!!! Why can’t they see it????

      • gymbot Says:

This makes so much sense, we’ll now need you to infiltrate the FIG’s highest ranks to make this happen.

      • TrishaG Says:

Gymbot, I would if I could! I lack the skills to infiltrate FIG on my own. Anyone got any spytastic skills to contribute for a good cause?

    • TrishaG Says:

Oops, forgot about vault! Big time deductions or zeroes in EF for falls. Seriously, if a vault looks in any way scary or out of control and the gymnast can’t stand it up…then the judges need to toss out zeroes like its confetti.

  11. Guest Says:

Couldn’t be happier that Nastia is finally voted off! She have no personality and popularity like Shawn did. Derek finally get rid of her.

Not to mention that at least Aly has made the final.

    • G Says:

Yeah agreed! She was a good enough dancer but lacked emotion and chemistry.

      • ilanchik20 Says:

I can’t believe Aly got further than Nastia.

Honestly, I think Nastia is a better dancer than she was a gymnast. She should have done rhythmic gymnastics lol

And last night’s dance was actually pretty good. Despite my feelings for her, she def lost for political reasons. There is no way they were going to cut Rumor or a former veteran who lost 2 limbs so not much of surprise. I wanted her to loose (if she was going to loose) case she was bad, not because of popularity (or lack thereof) so that’s kind of unfortunate.

I wonder what Shawn will say now.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She broke hold and still get tens last night. They have had other sap stories and they didn’t get this far. The Boston marathon last last year. This show is a popularity contest not a dance competition and for the most part is fixed which is how bitch Nastia was kept in the competition so lomg. The judges ignored things like her illegal holds. When aly was on the showy mother voted for her and when it w as done the phone line said she voted for someone else. Then the year Aly was on it after the east coast voted they did allows those votes and claimed phone problems.

      • Guest Says:

I really thought Shawn should have won her All-Stars season with Derek not only she outdanced other competitors with their Emmy-winning performance but also their mutual inspiration partnership.

Unfortunately they are forced to redo the rule-breaking quickstep but not Paso Tango Fusion (Mark substituted) so that the producer let Melissa win.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The producer let Melissa win because she was her client and the producer the agent. She was all the producer of that dancer. Which is how I know this show is fixed.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

aly learned how to fake personality and warm to the audience, She was polite grateful and hard working. She also worked on having chemistry with her partner. nastia had zero chemistry and only worked on dancing. she spdidnt work on coming across as likeable ( hint she isnt likeable and isnt relatable and isnt a good actress) Also shes got some kind of injury that prevents her from doing even basic gymnastics. Every single one of Shawns dances involved something from gymnastics which made her dancing not just good technically but unique, and with some flair. nastia executed choreography like a rockette, but with zero personality and zero interest. Clearly the gold dress lost ……

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Aly has been running for a President for years. She has it down pat even sending gymnasts her leotards from GK

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Aww that is so sad. From what my dancing expert has been telling me the judges have been holding her up. She broke hold and got all 10’s and no judged mentioned it. Her quick steps were slower music and not quick at all and she still got tens. I watched that show for years
They always over score the couples they want to keep them in it and it’s pretty clear the public didn’t like her. I was told she actually talked about how people think she isn’t happy or is bitchy or something g like that and how that isn’t what she is really like. I laughed a bit about that. I need to look that up on YouTube.lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

She was worried she didnt appear positive in her package and she didnt she appeared like nastia. I just love the gold dress… gold ribbon pink scrunchie. Shawn wins in life Nastia loses. There is a god…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I was all told Nastia didn’t give her usual dirty looks during the season and this person figured she was told to stop the bitch face or fans wouldn’t like her. It makes sense. Maybe I will blog about this tomorrow after I watch some of these dances

      • Guest Says:

Maybe the package last week showed her true color and her Russian background make audience not want to vote her anyway.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

people in the US love and embrace foreigners. This had zero to do with her being russian and everything to do with her having zero personality in front of the camera.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

total bitchface in the interview. she was pissed. Her mom and dad were pissed too. I guess they couldnt buy it like they did her gold medal.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Now that I have to see

      • Exgymgurl Says:

is it wrong that Im grinning for shawn? The nastia lovers have pointed out that Aly also got fourth because that year four couples made the finale

      • gymtruthteller Says:

In the general theme of Nastia related things ai want this was low on the list. I want NBC

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I want Nastia to be fired from NBC. Let’s hope they are mad she went to a different network for work.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Honestly I think shes close to being out at NBC. She was sent home early from sochi. She isnt used for anything besides gymnastics. I think if she was close to the cuff at NBC no way would they let their “star” go be on a rival network show getting ratings for them. Doubt the contract is renewed beyond 2016. too many other better options for commentators. the interview she did with Simone was crap

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don even watch NBC anymore thanks to GGMB”S pool boy putting everything on YouTube . I don’t miss it

      • Guest Says:

Majority of audie of this show are mid-old aged women. Most of them may be conservative and have negative image towards Russia. That’s why the injured war hero Noah is preferred over her despite their dancing skills are not the same level.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I think guest is related to nastia. Its a show about popularity and dancing. nastia can dance but shes just not liekable. period. this is why subway and all her other major sponsors have dropped her. Do you know how many times Shawn was wearing Nike on DWTS? Constantly, and then NIKE ran commercials. Did nastia ever wear adidas? Did Adidas sponsor the show? Did you see a subway commercial? No because she doesnt have direct sponsorship anymore. Sheryl Shade orchestrated this for nastia to make her more likeable and get her more deals and it backfired. big time. This has nothing to do with middle aged women. Men, teenage girls that vote (outside of gymnastics) dont like her. period. Not because zhes russian, but because she doesnt have a likeBle personality, and she doesnt know how to fake one.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Let the gurl/guy/MR Liukin defend Nastia is they want too. It’s all good.

      • Guest Says:

Obviously I am not defending her. That she is unlikeable and has no personality and emotion ruins her chance to final despite her good dancing skills. The package of previous week also strengthen her whining brat image and that’s why she lost the votes and Derek’s fanbase even couldn’t help.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Whatever you say MR Liukin 😉 I hope you know I am just kidding you. Not sure about gymguel. Lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I was wrong, she still has her foundation and that pays her to put on the nastia liukin cup along with USA gymnastics. She also has GKElite, but I dont know if she still has a grip line through AAI or if thats expired. I dont think she has visa, longines or ATT,anymore.

  12. Exgymgurl Says:

she wore a gold dress… the irony… and shawns grin…

I need the meme of carly patterson at 2003 worlds saying oh thats just too bad with a big ol grin when romania fell on floor in TF

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think that scene is what made me be a life long Carly Patterson defender. That is so something I would have said.lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

OMG me too… carly ding dong in her un polished teenage heyday would have been so fun on DWTS

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Lol IIA a total fanned the sarcastic. That is why I like Bridget Sloan

  15. Exgymgurl Says:

I think only you and I truly appreciate the 2003-2004 drama

  16. Exgymgurl Says:

I should make a flow diagram of how terin humphrey hated chellsie and then voted her out in 2012, and then how she hated courtney mccool, and how kupets hated carly and how carly never should have done bars in TF, and how inconsistent hollie vise was, and how annia hatch was only ever there to vault with mohini. marta took two vaulters at the expense of another bar worker and should have left mccool at home, and how tasha schweikerts ankle never really healed after 2002,

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Sounds like a soap opera.

    • JK Says:

Exgymgurl, can you please make that flow diagram? I’m really intrigued.

I don’t know why Marta didn’t put Hollie on the Olympic team. I know the US was lacking in vault and floor but Hollie was co-World Champion on Bars… was it because she fell during TF? Also, Hollie was a WOGA girl, doesn’t Marta favor WOGA girls over non-WOGA girls?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Holllie fell at camp but Marta never wanted her on the team. She only took her to worlds because the rules dictated it and then she changed the rules so she would never have to do that again. ( Holllie finished second at Nationals and the rules said she was automatically on team ) that Olympic team needed floor workers badly.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta is pro Zmeskal and look what they did to Nica Hultz.

      • ilanchik20 Says:

Please make the flow chart. I didn’t realize Kupets and Carly didn’t get along? Why? And I needed Hollie on that team. Ugh.

I wish Kupets never got hurt. She was (and always will be) a better gymnast than Carly and Nastia. Sigh.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

hollie fell at 2003 worlds on bars in TF and on beam in qualifying, she was 2/4. marta didnt change the top two rule, thats how mccool snuck in. the 04 TF was patterson, bhardwaj, and kupets on floor right? tasha could have helped them there had her ankle fully ever healed. up to 02 she scored very well on floor

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I remember a rule change. Damn I am getting old.

      • JK Says:

        What happened to Nica Hultz?

Man, I wished McCool never made the team; I wished it was Hollie instead. For some reason, I never liked her gymnastics. Also, didn’t she have some kind of breakdown before the Olympic games and that’s why she didn’t compete during TF?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nica was never given a fair chance. If she made a mistake it was doubled on deductions. She won beam at classics one year and the second that happened she was low balled through out. Marta might like Kim but she can’t have a team full of her gymnasts. Nica was never one of Marta’s faves. When Nica hit she was a beautiful gymnast. She should thrive in College.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        I spelled A HILT wrong but it’s late and I don’t care 😉

      • JK Says:

Thanks for explaining, GTT. I just watched some of Nica’s routines on YouTube and that girl had potential. Especially on beam. Loved how relaxed her upper body was and she moves her arms & hands very elegantly. Something I can’t stand about most of the US girls nowadays – very tense/awkward upper bodies, swinging their arms like baseball bats, busted wrists… why does Marta hate America? lol, just kidding (not really though 🙂 )

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Why Marta hates America I like it.

      • Case Says:

It’s not only the fact that Hollie didn’t make the team, it’s that they broadcast that shizz for all of us to see. Then zoomed in on her so we could see her heartbreak and tears up close. A travesty.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I know her family wasn’t happy they used her likeness for a beam/bars specialist spot that never existed. The announcement idea was wrong at all levels.

      • exgymgurl Says:

You can watch the rebroadcast of that announcement in all of its glory on youtube. What I want is a zoom in on the steve penny announcement of the 2012 team, because it looks like a name was scratched off the alternate list

  17. Exgymgurl Says:

do we have to write a blog and explain all the 2004 quad drama that starts really with uzelac fizzling out in 2002 as a senior after winning jr natls three times ( I know that quads katelyn ohashi right) asac and chellsie wer both members of that quad… I want to start with ashley postell refusing to go to selection camp for the olympics and move through nicole harris 😉

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Feel free to write a blog. I am always looking for new material;)

      • ilanchik20 Says:

        Yes, please write it.

I really only started following closely after 04. I’ve tried to catch up on some things (read about Uzelac) but clearly not all. I want to know the 04 drama, haha.

I also love the Atler drama but that’s a whole diff thing lol

    • JAS4 Says:

I would love to know if there was a name scratched off the alternates list. My guess would be Asac. Possibly Kyla if Marta originally had Nastia on the team then Kyla got bumped up when Nastia didn’t hit a routine.

  18. Exgymgurl Says:

Okay when will USA gymnastics stop tent poling Nastia?

https://www.facebook.com/USAGymnastics/photos/a.291382707167.124551.27029627167/10152425533147168/?type=1&theater I think Im going to barf

    • Guest Says:

Because she and her family paid money to USGC. I don’t remember whether Shawn/Aly got the same treatment.

    • Guest Says:

And one more thing… I found she is still holding Russian Passport (It means she has dual citizenship) in a interview of magazine, so there is nothing wrong that some people may suspect her loyalty to USA.

  19. Ilanchik20 Says:

So I’m reading the Shannon Miller book and in it she refers to Valeri Liukin as the coach of Carly and Nastia (pg. 136). That’s not actually true or am I loosing it? Lol

  20. Exgymgurl Says:

marchenko coached patterson and vise and nina kim

  21. Exgymgurl Says:

In 2004 shannon miller was divorcing the creepazoid… http://newsok.com/olympic-gymnasts-7-year-marriage-ends-in-divorce/article/1907839

  22. Cupquaked Says:

Proposal passed this morning. Brb while I weep for the destruction of the sport.

    • Tortuga Says:

I want to say I’m done with the sport but I know I can’t stop. This is so disappointing. Unless they’re saving 4 spots for strictly AA and and keeping 1 specialist only spot I don’t see the point. In fact I would be delighted if they changed the teams to allow 4 AA and 2 specialists. I feel that allows holes to be filled pretty well and gives 6 member teams. But I’m not sure how all this works. The main thing all the articles talked about was cutting the teams to for to somehow allow more specialists. How can men make a well rounded team with 6 events and 4 gymnasts?

      • G Says:

        http://olympictalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/15/gymnastics-olympic-team-sizes-rule-fig/

Hers an article, it’s a bit confusing at the end but I think there will be two spots purely for specialists. I do like the four up three count format.

      • Tortuga Says:

What I don’t like is that 2 gymnasts (specialists) can make the team and aren’t allowed to compete in team finals and will have to sit and watch their team win a medal without them. I’d rather just have 6 member teams and let more qualify to EF through world cup events. Then everyone is part of the TEAM competition and earns the medal. Also it won’t create a divide of Team comp gymnasts and Individual gymnasts.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Is there still a two per country rule now or are individuals lconsidered individual?

      • Tortuga Says:

They’re still hammering out the details but to my understanding from what I have read the individuals can qualify for finals and the “team” can also have up to 2 people qualify to event finals. So we have the possibility of have to up four people qualify for the AA or event final.

      • Tortuga Says:

I hope i’m not wrong. I hope the format isn’t that the “team” only competes in team finals and the “individuals” are the only ones who can make event finals. That would mean a lot less potential medals.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

The way I understand it that team only and specialists compete in qf and whoever makes the top 8 there, makes the finals. The 2 per country rule would still apply.

So basically the two major differences are 1) 4 members which means if someone gets hurt mid-meet, their team is screwed (and the u.s athletes would just keep on with injury or Marta (or her replacement) kills them and 2) specialists cannot participate in the team competition. But it’s totally possible that the “team” person out scores the specialist in qf for whichever event for their country (i.e Biles out scoring any potential vault, floor or beam specialists) so the specialist wouldn’t make it into the event finals anyways which then makes this whole thing stupid. So to me this just amounts to more competition in qf among top countries for those top 2 spots.

Honestly this just means Marta can play more mins games with athletes case they’ll now have to battle it to make into the team or specialist but then also in qf to qualify.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If you were hurt mid meet you wouldn’t get a replacement anyway think Sam Peszek.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

True but at least in a 5 or 6 member team, someone can still step in and do an event they normally wouldn’t (I.e Sloan) but if you need 4 people in qf, and you need 4 routines and one person is hurt mid qf, you are literally screwed.

      • Tortuga Says:

It would be so much simpler to just have 6 member teams and let them compete in qualification them have team finals 4 up 3 count. I don’t like the separation. Individuals might go to the Olympics then not even make the finals. They will have 0 chance at a medal if something slips up in qualification.

      • TrishaG Says:

I agree, the only part I like is that TF will now be 4 up 3 count. It allows for someone to stop mid-routine in case of injury. BUT it creates a new issue with not having enough athletes on the team to make up for injured athlete. Essentially, the rest of the competition is 3 up 3 count. If you were counting on dropping someone’s score on the other events, you now will have to count those scores since you have no options to have another athlete compete instead.

To me, it’s completely stupid. It won’t ensure representation of all continents by adding 12 specialist spots, which is the supposed reason they’re doing this. The top countries are going to be the ones to earn all of the specialist spots – the event specialists that don’t qualify for the team will be better than the 2nd best gymnast from countries ranked lower than 12th. So…just change from 12 teams of 5 to 10 teams of 6, and let the teams decide how many AA and event specialists they want on the team. Then allow up to 6 to compete on each event in qualifications so all AA gymnasts and all event specialists get their chance to qualify. Then all members on the team get a medal when the team earns one.

  23. G Says:

Wonder what happened to Norah’s foot?

  24. Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m kind of surprised Aly said something publically about this. She is usually more media savvy. I wonder what Marta or Mihai will think.

    • Case Says:

Don’t worry Aly. When one country sweeps the AA medal podium in 2020 the rules will change again.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

US will sweep vault. China bars. Romania beam and a free for all on floor.

I really can’t see this actually happening vote or not because the EF will be owned by one Country.

      • gymbot Says:

It’s still a 2 entries per country maximum per final (so if Maroney, Skinner, Biles and Sacramone are vaulting in 2020, all four can appear in quals but only two will vault in finals)

    • Guest Says:

Actually it comes to 4 team members and 2 additional individual specialist. Maybe beneficial to some event specialist. It is hard to judge if it is good thing.

      • Cupquaked Says:

Can team members also compete for an EF too or just the specialists? Because that takes away a ton of potential medals. And limits team members to only the team final. If this was happening to this quads Olympics it would take girls like Simone Biles out of EF. Which means they aren’t competing against the top 8 in the world anymore, just the top 8 not on a team…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Everyone will be open to EF not just specialists

      • Exgymgurl Says:

so if TF is 4 up 3 count, romania cant put ponor on the team because she doesnt do bars. marta will still plan for 3 up 3 count

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think she could just get up and get off and take the 0 since 3 scores will only count. Or just touch the bar like the Chinese did a few years ago.

It should also be noted that the inner workings of what will be allowed and won’t be is yet to be decided.

Seems stupid to me to let gymnasts go and not be part of the team. That seems totally unfair.

  25. Ilanchik20 Says:

Not that fan petitions ever accomplish anything but there is one going around already lol

    yeah he went there…. gag

    • gymtruthteller Says:

BS.lol I have been told by many she looked shocked. She thought she would win

    • Guest Says:

She even have a bit more connection and chemistry when she dance with Sasha. Derek may be thrilled because he can finally take a rest and heal and get rid of her although he try to defend her and writing something positive.

  27. Exgymgurl Says:

the package before they did the jive is some of nastias best work, she gets pissed at the producer for asking her how shes feeling and walks away from the camera

    • Guest Says:

Some defenders may say it is all of production, but we think it is her true color. 🙂

      • Gymbee Says:

Be nice to producers Nastia, as they’re the ones making you look good…. 🙂

  28. Lithi Says:

And now a word from Ms. Johnson regarding Ms. Liukin’s departure from DWTS: bummer, she said. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/2015/05/15/shawn-johnson-nastia-liukin-dancing-stars-dwts/27353555/

Nastia’s dance partner looks like Perez HIlton, and that is not a compliment.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She’s bumbd because she is another gymnast not because she’s her friend or anything. Shawn throwing shade eight back at Nastia who threw it at Shawn only did it and then deleted it.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I think it actually comes off as somewhat sympathetic…. GTT You need to watch the package they showed right before the Nastias jive, its everything weve been saying about her crappy spoiled personality for years, everything you saw in the shuffling video, everything we heard about her bullying personality on tour. She tried to bully production. Shawns right its a combination of a lot of things. Nastia failed at the part of charming producers to get her portrayed better. Derek couldnt pull her ass out of the fire. I think its funny how they got evan lysacek and nadia and some best friend ( whos not nina kim) who weve never heard of and her mom and dad and not her boyfriend to appear on camera for her. Im sorry but they used camera angles and costumes to hide all of her technical mistakes. I saw so many where she just doesnt finish the movement at all. Plus did she honestly think ABC was going to let an employee of a rival network win THEIR show? How many NBC personalities have won DWTS? Zero….She just handed it to the producer on a silver platter. had she just been honest cried and said she was really struggling, america would have felt for her and she would have jarred some emotion among viewers. Instead she comes off as a spoiled bratty ice princess. Thats probably the worst package Ive ever seen on DWTS and it didnt just come out of nowhere.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

At this point I have only seen a few videos but I will eventually watch more just for the fun of making fun of her

      • Gymbee Says:

Watch this GTT, she’s scoffing and making faces at producers questions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6Ljwxefg1o

      • exgymgurl Says:

Yes this is the package to watch everything that we’ve ever said about Nastia came true and showed through. She had to know they were taping. Derek had to know also. She also had to know it was possible they would use it. Had she answered the questions and just been positive, people would have felt sorry for her.

  29. exgymgurl Says:

Just a thought, are they trying to FORCE Team USA to actually attend WC events and get WC points? Right now the US only attends WC events anemically besides SCAM

  30. Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m pretty sure Aly shouldn’t be teaching bars to anyone lol

    But damn, she looks fit!
