Just want to let everyone know that there is NO Olympic spoilers going on at this blog. If you come here expect results to be discussed. Just a warning:)
Watch Washington vs Stanford live right now (7.45 PM Saturday the 8th)
Results are here
Ugliest Leotards I have ever seen. Looks like a someone whipped the middle. Washington’s are not any better (Pink and black with weird squigs in the middle)
Someone had Eminem floor music or is that background music.lol Too bad it has words. Must be background music.
Skating results can be found at this link. The overscoring of Yulia Lipnitskaya reminds me of the extra points Irina Slutskaya always received in the presentation department despite the facts she skated like a horse on ice. At this rate Yuna Kim should be scared. One mistakes at the cheating Russians are going to try and get her that gold medal. I hate when the Russians have a chance at a medal in this sport.
How Ashley Wagner skated during the team event according to Christine.
Aly’s new NBC Olympic commercial. I have no clue if this is real.
Fill Twist has the Results of Elite Canada
Victoria Moors has a new beam dismount (full in) but I will never understand how this girl is loved. Besides her floor not a single routine is positive and adding new skills to a routine you always mess up is not going to win you anything.
Aunt Joyce AKA Dave Lease is all of a sudden now the Skating expert for articles online. This makes GGMB very happy.lol ( not really)
More reasons to hate Canada. A french article being repeated by a whiny Canadian is accusing the US and Russia or swapping their votes for Ice Dancing and Pairs.
Now my opinion on this accusation has always been if Ice Dancing has always been fixed then why are we supposed to believe it is all of a sudden legit because Canada and the US are winning? but the Canadians screwed up their SP today and were still overscored so they should stop whining. The way they were scored 4 years ago made me think the same thing about them.

So the Russians supporting our pairs and we support their ice dancers? J/k but really Canada get over it virtue and moor are not what they were four years ago on home ice

Canada is just bitter they’re too old now.

Ashley Wagner’s “WHAT” face and then she said “BULLSHIT” to her coach. Very poor sportsmanship, regardless of what occurred.

She was royally screwed but yes, she needs to grow up.
February 9, 2014 at 5:16 PM |
So she DID say it! I thought I maybe just misread her lips. How about Gracie Gold’s epic Bitchface when Ashley was nominated to the team? These people do NOT like each other!

Right or wrong, classy or unclassy, good or poor sportsmanship…it sure made for a good few seconds of TV. I was watch the airing live (US coverage…not actually live) and rewound it on my DVR to make sure I saw it right. I was laughing my ass off!
I’m not 100% in Ashley’s corner (with this incident or with her skating in general), however I like that she isn’t the typical Barbie, princess, calm, demure, etc. skater. She’s like Svetlana or Musty…there’s personality showing….whether it’s PC or not.
Hate her, like her…it doesn’t matter. But you can’t say that she isn’t interesting to watch and discuss. I would much rather have her here to make things interesting, than to have that no name girl who won second at nationals smile and wave blankly at the camera. BORING.

is it poor sportsmanship to look disappointed/annoyed for like, a second or two, and express that? i mean, they’re athletes not politicians.
as long as they aren’t refusing to shake hands, or throwing some sort of fit/her iceskates at someone, or claiming some BS racism angle a la ferlito, i don’t really see the big deal. it might be less gracious than some, and possibly a little immature, but not necessarily bad sportsmanship particularly if she sucks it up in the end. just my two cents.
the canadian’s claim of corruption is awful. now if charlie/meryl DO win, it’s slighly tainted with crappy accusations. really distasteful.

She said “Bullshit” when she knew the cameras were rolling. That is poor sportsmanship. Classless

I probably woujld have done something similar, tbh. She was underscored, but her comments to the media afterwards weren’t bad at all. We can have all the sympathy in the world for Komova or Wieber crying when they’re disappointed but Wagner’s not allowed to be mad for a few seconds?? I don’t see one as better or worse than the other and if she was a guy it probably wouldn’t have been an issue at all.
February 10, 2014 at 4:27 PM |
Yeah, I think people are overreacting to her. We can’t all be perfect little ice princesses like Gracie! Ashley’s fine. If you want poor sportsmanship, watch Suraya Bonaly back in the day taking off her silver medal and glowering on the podium.

So are Alex and Maia Shibutani going to compete this Olympics or are they just backups?
February 9, 2014 at 9:36 PM |
From what I understand, they will actually compete.
February 10, 2014 at 2:51 AM

I’m getting hated on by the Nastia freaks. She took a pic of herself In a split leap at Sochi….land shes saying in one of her videos she grew up in Russia. Her pieces round Sochi are not compelling. Thats why they are relegated to the web.

Ashley Wagner’s cocky over-confidence is not going to win anyone over.

I don’t see any problem whatsoever with that tweet. It’s not cocky. It’s not over-confidence. It’s being proud of herself and her team.
February 10, 2014 at 4:28 PM |
Yup. She won me over!
February 9, 2014 at 9:17 PM |
I think when you’re put in a position like Wagner was, with a bunch of people saying you don’t belong there, you took someone’s spot, etc. (regardless of how incorrect that reasoning is) you kinda just have to own it. It’s like when Aly qualified for AA and Jordyn didn’t. You have to almost wear your confidence on your sleeve. You can’t tip toe around or else everyone will just continue with the narrative that you don’t belong. I don’t agree with most of her comments, the bullsh*t/bitch-face was unnecessary, but I’m not going to fault her by trying to lead with her confidence. I think she’s in an awkward spot, or at least feels like she is…
February 10, 2014 at 9:28 AM |
Cocky or not the only way Wagner gets close to the podium is if she skates clean and everyone else messes up. That’s what that score tells me. She’s sloppy overall and she two-footed her triple toe. I don’t know. Guess I’m not impressed.
I still have yet to see the Russian or Gracie skate but if they even try to screw over Yuna I will be pissed.
February 10, 2014 at 10:16 PM |
If Gracie is scored correctly that is the only way she makes the podium either.
February 11, 2014 at 5:49 AM
I would bet given Gracie’s hype she gets overscored. Just a feeling I have. But I still say she doesn’t end up on podium unless Mao falls a couple times.

“despite the facts [Slutskaya] skated like a horse on ice”
Quoted for truth–her next to Michelle or Sasha was just painful.
