If it makes you feel better it’s on at 6:45 a.m. my time….bleck

  2. nero Says:

7:45 here!! OMG BBC has everything archived, I am not sleeping tonight.

  3. gymglitterxx Says:

OMG I can’t wait for this! 4 hours to go! I just annoyed the fuck out of my cable company calling them like 5 times in a row to figure out how to set up my nbc livestream account! LOL

  4. Luckystar Says:

The first subdivision starts at 2:30 AM in my province, so I’m probably just gonna take a quick nap and then pull an all-nighter.

Even though they were always annoying I never realized how awful Elfie and Tim were until I was watching the men today with the Canadian commentators and for once didn’t mute my TV. In fact they were actually *GASP* helpful and informative some of the time.

That being said one thing I dislike about the Olympic commentary for gymnastics is that it always feels a tad dumbed down for the every-4-year fans. I hate how they rarely name the specific skills or elements and just say ‘this is a tough vault’ or ‘this is one of his easier tumbling passes’ and that they stop to explain the scoring system constantly. I know they have to appeal to a wider audience and that not everyone cares/knows what a TTY is, but it’s still irritating.

Btw Since im not watching NBC i fully expect you Americans to tell me if the white board somehow makes a follow up appearance, cuz that shit was priceless ๐Ÿ˜€

    • gymglitterxx Says:

tonight I watched the guys in primetime and they were giving spoilers, like saying who was about to fall and stuff! ridic

      • Luckystar Says:

Yeah I heard they announced Kohei’s fall before it even happened. I honestly think penguins would make better commentators.

    • hclovespink Says:

Haha I was the same, I was watching and was thinking this guy is not very annoying, this is not Tim, how comes he is not speaking then realized I was on the Canadian coverage, I liked that guy! I have no idea what I am watching in the morning, I have pvr recording from 2am! My husband says I am recording the same coverage twice but it’s 2 different channels with different names so leaving it just incase I miss something!!

      • Luckystar Says:

Even if you don’t record it properly CTV has been pretty good about archiving everything on their website, and you don’t need to log in or anything to watch like you do with some of the other networks as long as your Canadian, but I’m sure your recordings will be fine ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Gymbee Says:

Ooh yes the white board! I wanna see that one again, just for the comedic value ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. JAS4 Says:

    I’m excited I can’t wait!

  6. gymglitterxx Says:

I don’t think Brazil will make TF this year without Jade

  7. formergymgirl Says:

Watching the first sub-division. Reports are in that the judges are TOUGH with their E scores, particularly on beam. Scores in the first round are typically low, however, it will be interesting to see when the US and Russia compete later. Cannot wait! Penna is going on vault shortly…

  8. formergymgirl Says:

Pena sat her HS double…so want her to land it

  9. formergymgirl Says:

Nice DTY from Pena. Vault finals for her surely. Land that HS double please!!! I would love to see her give Maroney a run for her money.

  10. Luckystar Says:

The judges have been tough on the E scores, but I just saw Yamilet Pena Abreu (Dominican Republic) sit her first vault (a difficult salto) and she still got a 14.933 so the high D scores can still help soften the blow for some of the girls.

  11. Luckystar Says:

Now that the first subdivision is over I think I’m going to sleep through Australia and Italy, and be awake for USA and Canada (my home team!). I hate to miss any of it though. Damn you, time zones!

    • tulip Says:

Good call. halfway into the second rotation, they just cut the feed. in the middle of an Australian floor routine. Shannon was just saying how much she enjoys the Italians on bars, and Australia on floor and it went black. Wonder if it’s because the first round took so stinking long.
I would be shocked if Brazil made TF. They did not look good. Hypolito looked ready to take someone out.

  12. (@lygill) Says:

does anyone know if all the finals will be shown live on BBC One?

  13. Exgymgurl Says:

This stream is temporarily embargoed? wTH?

  14. Exgymgurl Says:

    Ugh NBC… Really UGGGH..

  15. Exgymgurl Says:

Vanessa Ferrari leading AA and Italy over Australia…Geddert tweeted Jo’s number lets hope it’s on her back

  16. Cristan Says:

Yay…it’s started and Jordyn led the team out…so glad it wasn’t brat face Gabby!

  17. Johnsonlover Says:

These leos are pretty much the same as the hot pink but blue

  18. Cristan Says:

So far on vault…Aly got 15.80, Gabby got 15.90, Jordyn got 15.833, still waiting on McKayla’s second vault…

  19. formergymgirl Says:

Oh god Gabby’s head is gonna explode!

  20. formergymgirl Says:

I know it’s too early to call and we haven’t seen the Russians but the US have this in the bag they look STRONG

  21. Cristan Says:

On Bars now…didn’t get to see Aly, so I don’t know, Jordyn – it’s a bit messy, but she stuck her landing – 14.833, Kyla – was good – 14.866 (something must have happened that I didn’t catch, her execution seemed too low?), Gabby – looked pretty good – (still waiting for her score)…

  22. Jenna (@evrlngwatrfalls) Says:

U.S is unstoppable at this point. The Chinese gym fan in me is crying but I’m still happy for team U.S.A.

  23. gymglitterxx Says:

Is there a way to see the scores live??

  24. H Says:

    anyone – Alys bars score?

  25. kate r Says:

    I am seeing 14.16 for Aly’s bars

  26. gymglitterxx Says:

15.333 for Gabby on bars! finally something real

  27. Becky Says:

How did they get a .2 difference between Aly and Kyla’s execution scores?

  28. Johnsonlover Says:

    Gabby bars 15.333

  29. H Says:

USA bar scores: Raisman 14.166, Wieber 14.833, Ross 14.833, Douglas 15.333!! – highest of the day

  30. Gymbee Says:

Oh lord I am so nervous!!! Heart is racing!
Read on twitter that Jordyn was shaky in warm-ups.

  31. Cristan Says:

Grrr…they aren’t showing Beam from where i’m watching!

  32. gymglitterxx Says:

    Yikes Jordyn was wobbly!

    • Jen Smith Says:

Her leap she struggled to stay on afterwards was huge! Best I’ve seen. I didn’t think the routine deserved that low of a score.

  33. (@lygill) Says:

Kyla 15.075 Gabby 15.266 Jordyn 14.7 on beam

  34. Gymbee Says:

Shit, I just realised Jordyn might get passed by Gabby and Aly! (I’m a bit slow today)

  35. Cristan Says:

    Floor – noooooooooooooooo Kyla – OOB 1st pass, 13.733.

  36. (@lygill) Says:

    Right now Jo’s at 45.366 and Aly’s at 45.066!!

  37. Cristan Says:

Shit Gabby went OOB too – but no score just yet.

  38. (@lygill) Says:

Beth scores a 16.133 on bars!

  39. sarah Says:

OMG Jordyn’s not gonna qualify for the AA!

  40. Johnsonlover Says:

    Jordyn- 60.032, gabby- 60.265, aly- 60.391!!
    Whoa I cant believe it.
Who is going to the AA finals?

  41. (@lygill) Says:

    So heartbroken for Jordyn ugh

  42. Gymbee Says:

Jordyn crying ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Must be all the tension too. I’m sad ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  43. Lauren Says:

GTT, I know I was not a commenter when you selected who you would allow through the Olympics, but I hope you’ll let me join in. I don’t plan on commenting much, but two things. I feel terrible for Jordyn, but SO AMAZING to see Aly’s reaction. Secondly, nice to see a more appropriate bar score for Gabby.

  44. sarah Says:

    holy mother , in shock.

  45. Jessica Says:

Wow….Aly has no shot at getting on the podium. She historically tanks her bars in AA finals. Poor Jordyn. I think she was grossly underscored today. Aly needs to bow out gracefully and let Jordyn take her spot…wishfull thinking, I know. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    • Gymbee Says:

I don’t get Jordyns beam score! She didn’t do that bad? So sad ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

      • advil Says:

We’ve known for months that her connections are weak. Her score is completely unsurprising. Obviously if you compare it to Nats/Trials padded scoring it’s a bit of shock, but let’s be real.

      • Gymbee Says:

Oops, meant floor! She only had a foot OOB, but the rest…. so gutted.

    • gymglitterxx Says:

Well if the judges score the same way they scored today, Aly has more of a shot than Gabby at getting on the podium! I almost wouldn’t be surprised if Aly does give her spot to Jordyn though, just because they’ve been best friends for like ever and Jordyn is world champion! Her coach would NEVER let her do something like that though………………

    • Anonymous Says:

Beam killed Jordyn… in this code SV is important and she only got 6.0 not to mention all those wobbles. so sad. wonder if komova has heard yet

    • GoForTheGold Says:

Aly earned that all around position fair and square. She worked just as hard as Jordyn and deserves the chance to compete. Suggesting that she should bow out just so the US has a better chance to medal is wrong on so many levels. That’s the kind of crap the former Soviet Union would pull. I feel so bad for Jordyn, but I don’t think we should punish Aly for what happened today.

    • Biyatch Says:

Most bullshit comment ever. Aly earned that. Bow out my ass. She has been the most steady American for the past 3 years and beat both Gabby and Jordyn.

      • Hurms22 Says:

I would hate for Aly to bow out. All this time she’s been attempting to prove that she is an all around gymnast and now all the work has paid off. She earned it fair and square.

  46. exgymgurl Says:

stunned… I dont see how Jordyns beam score was so low unless NONE of her connections were counted. I think Geddert should have contested it. I mean OOB on the Amanar I get, the back arched on the bars I get but STUNNED….. Aly earned it though her beam, and floor were really good.

  47. formergymgirl Says:

I am heartbroken for Jordyn. I’m telling you now this is partly USG’s fault for hyping Gabby up so much instead of respecting their current world champion. It would have been eating away at Jordyn for weeks slowly knocking her confidence and now look what has happened. Our beautiful sport can sometimes be extremely cruel too…

    • gymglitterxx Says:

I agree about overhyping Gabby. Also, Martha’s training plan is horrible, Geddert talked on twitter about having to “earn” days off and wrote on his blog about how Martha made the girls practice days and days in a row at camp, which they normally never do at home.

    • Gymbee Says:

I agree! With the insane over-scoring of Gabby this spring, when Jordyn was clearly better, how could it NOT affect her?

      So so gutted ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  48. H Says:

    WOW. Ally:-)

Must be devestating for Jo. USAG do go for the to two?

  49. Lauren Says:

Unfotunately, my fead was really slow and stopping during Jordyn’s beam (it was okay otherwise), so I really had trouble on a lot of connectoins because it would literally stop… But MAN…

  50. JAS4 Says:

That is crazy! Jordyn’s floor was so under scored! And the two per country rule is stupid but I doubt Gabby would bow out and let Jordyn have the second AA spot

  51. Dee Says:

    I’M SO LIVID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    rawwwwwwwwrrrrrrrrrr gaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh HIISSSSSSSSS

    • Dee Says:

ok. I’ve calmed down a bit. Am watching subdivision 4 right now. Mustafina looked pretty good on the floor. It’s not the Olympics until the Russians arrive ๐Ÿ™‚

Never thought I’d say this, but Go Vika, Go.

  52. H Says:

Anyone want to share mini summary of the interviews on NBC? Please:-)

  53. exgymgurl Says:

Aly has worked just as hard as Jordyn or Gabby and today she was better than both. Proving why she got the third AA qual spot over Kyla. Shame that Jordyn doesnt get the chance to defend her world AA crown, I dont think Ive ever seen her cry. I feel for her, but Aly did her job. Gabby got about the score she deserved, but .23 on her amanar not being out and she qualifies. 0.1 on her foot not being out on floor and less wobbly on beam and she qualifies. Too many little mistakes. Jordyn was way underscored on floor but over the line on her amanar and banana backed on bars… and wobbly on beam. Kim Zmeskal did not have the olympics everyone thought she would either.
Hopefully Jordyn comes up strong in team finals, shes not my favorite gymnast but my heart goes out to her. She was not at peak form today.

    • Dee Says:

I’m very happy for Aly.I was so hoping for it to be Aly & Jordyn. I’ve never liked this Gabby stuff from the very beginning…it’s going to be kind of hard to watch AA!

  54. Lauren Says:

I seem to remember you mentioning, GTT, quite often, how Jordyn’s connections would never get counted at the Olympics on beam. You def. nailed that one, apparently. Her start value was 6.0 right??

    • H Says:

What would her start value have been with counted connections?

      • Catherine Says:

6.4 Can’t help point the finger at geddert for this..

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What do you mean? Geddert was told during podium training she would not get credit on beam and the way it the info has been fed to me is that Geddert thought they were wrong and ignored them.

He is too blame. Him and the beam judges that judged today

      • Catherine Says:

Ah that’s what I meant. He is to blame for her keeping the connections she could not hit. Just like Akopyan keeping Maroney’s third pass- not that that matters now, but still ridiculous. I don’t know Jordyn’s 2011 SV on beam offhand, but it really looks like she would have qualified with her old beam. Disgraceful. Did you watch subdiv 1? Beam was really harsh there on e-score. And then Ponor and Gabby hours later..wtf?

    • gymglitterxx Says:

I honestly can’t believe Geddert did not do something about that.

    • Dee Says:

There was a blog or something about him addressing it but then next thing you know, she’s back at camp working on that very beam combo. I also would like to know why they did not change it back to her original set…

  55. nero Says:

The 2 per country rule is horrendous, Gabby was over-scored on beam Jo underscored on floor. I’m devastated for her. Poor thing. You know if this happened to Russia, or Gabby, people would all of a sudden have come down with the ‘flu’ the day of AA.

    • Anonymous Says:

You are def right about that! Russia has the same thing going on as the US with 3 AAs. Grishina could get a spot over Mustafina. I think Komova is safe barring disaster.

Khorkina gave her vault spot to Zamo (cheered for her from the stands) and she got the Gold.

    • nero Says:

I’m sick over this. I LOVE Aly, I don’t think she should give up her spot, she earned it. But I wonder if it will play on her mind. Especially since she’s rooming with Jo.

They better have a team meeting stat and get Jo’s head together

      • Gymbee Says:

Agree, I love Aly and she totally deserves this. Well done for even beating Gabby. Heartbroken for Jo though ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Yep, this is not good for team morale when one of their strongest members are down. Need them all focused for TF!

      • Dee Says:

Agreed…I hope she gets some time with Geddert to make sure she’s ready for team finals, I hated that everyone left the arena and she was literally left there alone, crying.

    • mim Says:

it’s an awful rule. fairness would dictate the best scores should qualify the gymnast. no other considerations. boo you FIG whores.

hope this doesn’t rattle the team or the others either. aly performed amazingly, best form ever tonight.

  56. Cristan Says:

I was just reading on facebook (and i’m not sure if this is correct either) but apparently in 1992 one of the girls who qualified for the AA final was pulled so that another girl who didn’t qualify was given the chance. Does anyone know if this is true? I am so hoping that maybe that bitchy little brat Gabby gets pulled so Jordyn can compete. Probably wishful thinking as Gabby is Martha’s golden child, but one can dream, right?

    • JAS4 Says:

Yeah especially if Jordyn can out score Gabby in TF then I then one would think they’d pull Gabby and put in Jordyn but she’s Marta’s favorite so that will never happen

      • Anonymous Says:

we won’t have that comparison bc they both cant do AA in TF… only one of them can do beam with Kyla&Aly

    • Dee Says:

That was Gutsu…she wound up winning the ’92 AA. She was substituted because her team said that the original athlete that was going to compete in the AA was “injured” (I’m not totally sure she was).

…And that would never happen here. There is just no way ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

      • Exgymgurl Says:

The athlete they pulled for gutsu wasn’t injured belu did the same thing with Romania pulling marinescu in1996. Aly shouldn’t be pulled nor should gabby. They earned it. aly was table setter for bars and vault. Jordyn could have landed her amanar in bounds and qualified. It’s sad for her but she’s looked tired and lackluster all year. She will most likely still get a team medal. 2 per country is stupid but everyone knew the rule going in. So sad.

      • Dee Says:

No, they shouldn’t pull either girl, they did earn it but if it was another country you know it would happen. I dont think the USA has ever done that, anyway.

      • Catherine Says:

Roza Galieva. She wasn’t injured, it was all a lie. Gutsu fell off beam and wrecked her chances in prelims. She shared her prize money with Galieva. In 1996 Galieva tried again but managed to perform her floor against Kerri Strug’s vault, so she couldn’t hear her music. I think she also had to perform against Shannon Miller’s beam. Such bad luck, she was great.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She was great in 92. In 96 she was average.

Galiyeva was smiling after she performed. It wasn’t until she got her score that she started whining about the crowd.

      • Catherine Says:

I only ever saw her crying! Bad luck in the sense that she got screwed over twice. I doubt she would have featured highly in 96 but at least if she performed to normal noise and did her best she would have ended her career on a decent note, and not full of bitterness. I doubt it really mattered that she deteriorated by 96, Russia weren’t dominant the quad after break-up..I only remember Khorkina really.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She was fine until she got her score. There was no bitterness at that point about 96. She was smiling and hugging her teammates til the score.

  57. mim Says:

i know you’re not approving new comments but man i need to vent to people who understand. so, SO happy for aly but absolutely devastated for jordyn. i hate hate hate this 2 country rule. the aussie AA girls are nowhere near the calibre of jordyn and yet they get to compete because lack of country depth? such BS. apparently catalina ponor has made a statement saying FIG should do away with the rule (rightly so). i want to cry for jordyn and can’t even comprehend. world champ can’t defend her title. gym injustice!

    • Dee Says:

It’s a damn curse. Never, ever, win the World AA the year before the Olympics.

      • Anonymous Says:

I liked 3 per country (like in 2000) since there are 3 medals up for grabs!

      • nero Says:

exactly what is wrong with a country sweeping the medals?? If those are the best than they should compete

      • Dee Says:

That was awesome in 2000. It would have been amazing here in London, too. Why was the rule changed?

      • Anonymous Says:

my guess is the same reason we have the 5 per team rule: “to allow more countries to be represented” not that I agree with it. The Olympics is meant to crown the BEST in the world no matter what country they are from.

    • gymnastwannbe Says:

Seriously! How can they call it a competition if the best do not get to compete against each other..bs

  58. nero Says:

Fuck the IOC Fuck the FIG Fuck the 5 team rule Fuck the 2 per country rule

    • nero Says:

I hope Aly becomes Olympic AA Champion just to fuck with all those people who bitched about Jo and hoped she wouldn’t medal

    • mim Says:

and eff marta too. she doesn’t sound too heartbroken for jordyn. i could never quite believe she didn’t love jordyn but i stand corrected. guessing she doesn’t care as long as gabby got through. hmmmpfh (even though she did better than i thought she would tonight).

    • Jazzy31 Says:

Nero: Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. And GOOOOOO Aly!! I’d LOVE to see her with an AA medal!!

  59. Becky Says:

Did anyone see the Russian floor scores?

  60. Jazzy31 Says:

I’m reading the fb comments and someone wrote about Gabby being overhyped. Another guy just wrote that he disagrees and that Jordyn was overhyped!! Huh? I might have to start arguing with him!

  61. Cristan Says:

Did anyone just see Vika vault? It was quite quick, and I might not have seen it properly, but I swear her hands hit the springboard so far up that it looked like she almost missed it. Despite that, her Amanar was pretty good otherwise – 15.633

  62. Luckystar Says:

They said yesterday on mens that if more then two people per country qualify for AA then the country gets to pick who will compete in the AA and that its not automatically the top 2.

I wonder if thats true for women, but it doesn’t sound like it. I love Ali, but she isn’t very likely to win gold…

    • Gymbee Says:

I hope Jordyn can pull a “Shawn Johnson” and qualify for event finals and medal there ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

      • Dee Says:

I dont know if she will qualify for any events ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I missed her standings on the events…does anyone know if Jordyn has a shot at any events?

      • Gymbee Says:

Seems she is 5th on floor at the moment (I think the list is updated), I’m thinking who in sub 5 can pass her. Izbasa, Ponor and ? She might get the 8th spot?

    • H Says:

Does (do?)anyone think that they will pull out Ally?

  63. nero Says:

    15.53 for Paseka’s amanar what a JOKE!

  64. (@lygill) Says:

is anyone watching online via streaming? (no nbc or bbc sites please)

  65. H Says:

    go to http://www.eurovisionsports.tv (/london2012/index.html

  66. Nina marie Says:

John Geddert retweeted a comment about not liking the two per country AA rule, and then deleted it (seems to be his mo). Interesting to see what other hot-headed comments we will get out of him.

    • Nina marie Says:

Nm, the comment is still there. Dislike twitter refresh.

    • Dee Says:

yikes. yea it’s too early for him to start this…i just want him to keep a calm head to help jordyn get through TF. then rage away, john ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Biyatch Says:

The comment he made about Aly having the “meet of her life” seemed douchey to me.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah kind of like “lucky b*tch if she could only stop being so consistent…”
We all know if Aly were left out of the AA he wouldn’t really give two cents. But Aly’s not his athlete.

      • Biyatch Says:

especially cause they say aly knocked her out of the all around, i guess cause she was last up on floor but technically gabby knocked her out of the AA since Gabby got the US’s last spot. Geddert had to have known after Jo’s floor score came up that she was done.

I feel bad for Jordyn and like her way more than Gabby but the people who keep saying that Aly was lucky are full of shit.

  67. H Says:

Us is leading with 3 points over russia after 2 rotations

  68. Johnsonlover Says:

If you really think about it, gabby would’ve been the top spot if she didnt screw up on floor…she scored better than aly AND jordyn in every event except floor, which was horrendous to watch. I don’t know if I’m the only one thinking this or not, but I feel like Gabby has a better chance of winning the AA than aly based on how the judges judged her…:/

    • Nina marie Says:

I agree. If she can keep it together…

      • Johnsonlover Says:

I just hope she or aly beats komova, I just HATED the way she acted at worlds. I also want at least one American on podium of any color doesn’t matter who, I don’t think I could deal with having no Americans up there when jordyn could’ve.

    • H Says:

Sure, but it would be so much more fun if Aly won;-)

      • Jazzy31 Says:

Yup – I’m rooting for Raisman!!

      • Johnsonlover Says:

Yes ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope she qualifies 1st, that’ll shake up komova for sure

      • mim Says:

yep im going for aly. if jordyn isn’t there, it would be nice to see a non-flashy, “slow and steady wins the race” type consistent gymnast actually win.

just saw the BBC commentary. they were first commenting how nice it was to see jordyn cry and show emotion… not releasing until like 2 mins later she hadnt qualified in AA. oh. dear.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Could have , should have, blah, blah blah. If Gabby was scored fairly on beam Jordyn would be in the AA and this would be a great day.

Gabby got credit for her first two connections on beam that were not even close to being connected.

I mean we can’t argue with the Olympic judges now. It is what it is. We don’t like it, it sucks, but I’m not one to say I would have judged better (and I’m giving every consideration that Marta and no outside influences were impacting their scores). That being said, this sport sucks because it’s never fair. It’s always biased. It’s like figure skating.
Even in Beijing they were giving credit to Nastia right and left and deducting from Johnson for random shit. Whatever. I’m still in so much shock and just reading the comments. I haven’t watched it yet because all I get for live stream is a black box (even though I signed in through AT&T) so I guess I’ll have to rely on DVR to watch the Olympics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I can argue with them because they are not doing their jobs. I might not be a code expert but I know enough to know when someone is getting credit for connecting two skills they did not connect.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

You can argue but it’s not going to change anything. It seems like this is the common story year after year (for the Olympics). I am now truly beginning to think that being the World champ going into the Olympics is like having a target on your back. I am not a true believer of jinxes but now…

  69. Jessica Says:

The Olympics are only 3 days old and already I am so disheartened. Phelps phucks up and doesn’t even get a medal….Kohei Uchi implodes….Jordyn out of AA finals. I feel like not even bothering with the rest of the games. But I will….glutton that I am.

  70. nero Says:

JORDYN’S AA SCORE BEAT MUSTAFINA!!! There is no justice

  71. Elitefan Says:

Rita Weiber’s last blog had a comment about how she hadn’t seen Jordyn since July 11, and she might not get to hug her but at least she could see her…I hope they let Jordyn see her family later, I feel like it must be so hard on these girls to be away from home for so long, especially when disappointments happen.

Will be watching tonight…live feed literally only worked long enough to see McKayla vault…but now I am refreshing live results obsessively on my phone to see if Jordyn keeps that floor final spot…the Olympics are terrible for my studying…

    • Dee Says:

I hope they let her see her family today. I cant imagine how all of them feel, it would be nice if they could at least give her a hug!

  72. Dee Says:

FIG Twitter confirmed that Komova just surpassed Aly in AA. Woah baabay this is going to be a fight!

  73. Johnsonlover Says:

Komova just knocked out aly raisman’s score! 60.632

    • Johnsonlover Says:

And Russia is behind the US by 1.4

      • Anonymous Says:

musty vault was really high… i think she can pull off the amanar in TF and that closes the gap with the US. of course both teams have room for improvement (wobbles, oob, etc).

  74. nero Says:

Komova beam score JOKE. Jo is fucking 4th in AA and can’t compete.

for the record I thought it was fucked up that Gabby couldn’t compete in AA at worlds when she was 5th

    • tulip Says:

Anybody catch when Musty whispered something to Vika after her beam routine? Based on her surprise and elated response, I’m guessing she just found out about Jordyn.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Same. I hope at least with Jo’s exclusion in the AA the FIG will eliminate this two per country rule. It’s stupid and goes against everything “fair” about competition. If you’re the best in the world, you should be able to fucking compete.

Although I have to admit, nobody would be saying crap about this rule if Aly had qualified third…

      • tulip Says:

I’ve been saying this since this stupid rule was enacted. FIG stated that they wanted to allow more to compete from non-powerhouse countries
Here in this county, we have affirmative action. It’s an idea that preferences be given to minority or under represented demographics/people to increase diversity. This 2 per country rule is affirmative action in sport. And it has no business being there. If the top 12 gymnasts represent 3 countries, then so be it.

  75. H Says:

When is it on NBC toninght?

  76. Dee Says:

Team GB to the finals!! wooooooooo and Canada, too!

  77. Exgymgurl Says:

It’s totally messed up, but with Jordyns positioning in the lineup it was hers to lose. I wonder if they still make Jordyn do AA in them finals or if she skips beam.

  78. mim Says:

now bela is saying that marta wanted jordyn last on floor instead of aly but was outvoted by the other coaches and blamed the lineups…

WTF. hope after all of this (post olympics) john g blows his lid at the karolyis.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

YES that’s the only silver lining to this horrific circumstance. That, and maybe this means it’s not the last we’ll be seeing of Jordyn Weiber. I can’t imagine she’ll give up now. I think she’ll try for Rio (which make me happy because I hate “liking” a gymnast so much and then seeing them end their careers within 2 years after entering the senior ranks).

  79. JAS4 Says:

  80. elitefan Says:

    Jordyn’s statement:
“It’s a bit of a disappointment. It has always been a dream of mine to compete in the all around final of the Olympics but I’m proud of Aly and Gabby and happy that they reached the all around and that I helped the team get to the finals. I think from the beginning we were all looking very strong. It was always going to be close between the three of us doing all around and in the end it is what it is.”

  81. Anonymous Says:

Is anyone else annoyed that the media is saying Aly “came from no where” and was “a threat no one knew existed” as the reason Jordyn didn’t make it. No one mentions any doubt that Gabby would beat Jordyn. Ugh

    • sanitynmotion Says:

The only reason they’re saying that is because the media had completely ignored Aly in the first place. They specifically zoned in on this “rivalry” between Gabby and Jordyn hoping that it would increase viewership. Now that the media looks stupid (I mean, if in my opinion they are stupid to begin with by setting up this fake rivalry) they have to come up with a reason being that Aly was supposedly this dark horse.

Truth is, four of these five girls could easily make the top 8 AA at these games. It’s any of theirs to win based on how good of a day they are having. Sucks, but that’s the story of the Olympics (anyone who follows figure skating would immediately remember how Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes edged out Kwan in the ’98 and ’02 Games, and Kwan was totally the favorite going in to both. She just had a lackluster day).

No one mentions doubt about Gabby beating Jo because that’s how this was all set up to begin with. The rivalry thing has to be put to bed now because Jo didn’t make finals. So now the media has to come up with some other “schtick” to get viewers…stupid.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Now you are just starting to piss me off.lol Kwan was robbed in 98. Plain and simple. Tara Lipinksi getting 5.8’s in presentation is blatant stupidity. I can also make a case for Kwan in 02 because she was first in the SP and should have been second in the LP but the US judge admitted he put Irina in second in the LP because he thought Sarah should win. Blatant cheating that no one cares about. Reality is it would have taken two more judges )with the US judge) putting Kwan in second in the LP to get her gold but it doesn’t change the facts that a judge, a US judge no less admitted he cheated and nothing was done about it. The alternate judge from Ukraine said they would have given the title to Irina which is more proof that these judges all suck.

The point of this blog is to discuss the sport and I can complain about it. Nothing I say on this blog changes anything

      • Anonymous Says:

The media is just so annoying.

I am not trying to take anything away from Jordyn because she deserves to be in the final but one of the reasons I have liked Aly so much all along is because she keeps getting better… Her form has drastically improved over the last few years and she has increased her difficulty steadily as well. Her continued improvement and her consistency is why she is in the AA final and can actually contend for a medal.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree she has gotten better but her form is still a mess especially on bars. I am so thrilled for her but Jordyn was robbed and I am writing that again and again and again:

      • sanitynmotion Says:

LOL I’m SO pissed right now. Just at these games. I completely agree Kwan was robbed but she also didn’t do her best on those days. She played it safe (and part of it was her placement – I remember she had to go first, and that pissed me off as well). But even you have to agree (go back and watch) that she was very conservative on that free skate (a complete 180 from her short program, where you could tell she was fighting for it).

I hate Irina and refuse to acknowledge her existence. As far as I’m concerned that silver medal went to no one. It was thrown into the ocean.

I’m not saying don’t complain – Lord knows all I do (for the most part) is complain on this blog. I’m just venting because we can’t change anything about it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

In the Ocean like the necklace from the Titanic movie.lol

You remember what the media said but I will be damned if Kwan wasn’t great in 98. The media put that in her head. Was she 98 National perfect, nope but perfection can’t happen every time out.

        SHE WAS ROBBED!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Haha I was thinking Titanic (and that horrible part of Britney Spear’s song oops I did it again…yah I grew up in the 90’s) when I said that.

I went back and watched Kwan’s free skate awhile back. For no apparent reason other than nostalgia. I remember wishing she had been more aggressive because then it would have been impossible to have robbed her (yes I agree she was robbed but it wasn’t obvious enough I guess to the general public). She should have won gold though. Lipinski all she did was skate and jump and run around screaming like a little girl. Gawd, I still want to smack that damn face of hers.

I haven’t watched the quals yet despite fucking around with my computer for an hour. At this point my husband is thinking I’m headcasing. Oh well. It’s the Olympics. What was Gabby’s D score on beam and how did she outscore Aly? Was it beam then that took it away from Jordyn? It seems like it. If only she hadn’t stepped out of bounds on floor then. This really sucks.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am pretty sure Jordyn missed her connections on beam but her score didn’t bother me as much as Gabby’s score. She had two decent bobbles and missed her first two connections and still got full credit.

Watching it gave me the impression that the judges wanted to take Jordyn out of the AA for Komova to win. I need to find out who these judges were.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I didn’t think of it that way (take her out for Komova) but that makes perfect sense given the past. I think the judges were posted somewhere…I know I’m not helping much on that account.

All I know is that I’m rooting for anyone but Komova.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

lol Komova will be my saving grace. She has to win now because the judges won’t give this to Aly.

  82. sanitynmotion Says:

For anyone who says Aly and/or Gabby should give up their spot in the AA…c’mon. They have trained just as hard as Jordyn all of their lives, and sacrificed just as much. This was their dream too, annoying as some personalities (Gabby’s) are. You could also have argued it was not fair to not allow Kyla to go for the AA since she has a good shot as well but rules are rules (even though they suck, are completely biased, and make no sense). I seriously hope that this instance will at least make the FIG eliminate the two per country rule (which we all know wouldn’t be an issue if Aly had qualified 3rd). Personally, I hope the 3 up 3 count should be elminated too and compulsories should come back (hahahaha I know I am asking for WAY too much here).

I’m kind of starting to see a situation where the US might not make podium for the AA. Gabby will fall on beam and Aly will eff up bars. All I know is that Komova should be writing someone a thank you letter. I know I’m being cranky and completely negative right now.

Why the fuck Geddert didn’t take out those stupid connections on beam and make her routine more like worlds in 2011 is beyond me. He just learned a really hard lesson as coach of the AA favorite going into these games. That beam routine was never working for her from day 1. Jo’s connections there are a lot more questionable than Gabby’s (even though hers were too I’m sure) and I had yet seen Jo have a beam routine where those connections were not questionable.

My other comment/hope is that Geddert now will release his anger on Marta about not resting athletes. He’s said from day one how he would like for his athlete to get more rest but has kept quiet probably in the hopes of not being labeled a “bad sport.” Well, something has got to go down now…or at least after the Olympics. I bet he’s righteously pissed. From all accounts Jordyn didn’t look refreshed and was sluggish. But then again, I guess this is moot considering Gabby and Aly had the meets of their lives.

I’m really happy for Aly; she deserved this. She has been super focused and is a great competitor. I really hope she makes bars this time around.

I’m a little scared how team finals will go down, if Jordyn doesn’t compete to her potential. This could be a bad thing for everyone. We’ll see how this “favorite going in as a team” jinx works out.

Marta’s first reaction I read was to hug Aly and tell her all the hard work finally paid off. I can’t help but think that these 2 All Arounders was what she had hoped for from the beginning. Her pets.

Bela should shut his stupid mouth. He shouldn’t be allowed to enter an Olympic arena. I’m sick of him.

Obviously I need to let out some aggression.

I don’t want Komova to win but I don’t see how she can’t. Even Yao Jinnan is completely injured supposedly.

    • Gymbee Says:

I think Geddert can still make the point about more rest. Just because one training plan works for some gymnasts, doesn’t mean it’s right for others. Look at Shawn in Beijing, I mean she didn’t train as much as the others on a day to day basis, but leading up to Beijing she was under Marta’s rule, and she said she was exhausted.
Seems like Geddert rests Jordyn more when they’re at home, but she has looked tired leading up to these Games, with Martas demands.

It’s time for Marta to give the personal coaches a more free reign as to how their athletes are training, also before big events. They know their athletes best, and know what they need.

Ditto, so tired of Bela. He needs to shut up.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Yao is out of the AA. Deng and HQ beat her. I agree about expecting Aly or Gabby to give up the AA. It isn’t fair to ask but IMO Gabby got a gift on beam and Jordyn should be in the AA.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

We all know they aren’t giving up their AA spots. If this was Russia or Romania though someone would have come up with the flu or something after Team Finals and ‘poof’ Jordyn would be back in. But this “is” the US of A after all…

I have to feel bad for Aly though because it’s bittersweet. She’s seeing her best friend (and roommate) having one of the toughest times of her life. What’s it called, survivor’s guilt?

HQ finally put in a good showing then, good for her. Poor Yao. She has been having issues. I just wish all of these girls could have been healthy and a real competition would have been on.

Gymbee you make a good point about different needs for different gymnasts. Duh on my part. I agree with you about there being a need for more reign on the individual coaches part; they’re with their athletes a lot more and know what their needs are prior to a big competition such as this.

  83. Anonymous Says:

Komova still has to hit to win. She can afford a few small mistakes but she can’t afford say a fall from beam/bars dismount fall coupled with some poor floor landings OR a missed amanar. If she hits she wins, if she misses she opens the door for others

  84. Jazzy31 Says:

Where are the current standings listed? Who from the US is still for event finals?

  85. Exgymgurl Says:

Larissa Iordache is how komova doesn’t win…. Hail Roumania

    • sanitynmotion Says:

God I hope so. Yet the two per country rule might help Jo get to floor finals since 3 Romanians can’t be in the FX final…

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Looks like jordyn is in floor finals. I hope she kills it.

      • Casc Says:

It would be great if the starting order in FX was like 1…..7. Jordyn 8. Aly, then Aly could just give the gold medal to Jordyn by backing off if Jordyn would be first by then. I don’t think it could happen unless Aly wins AA.

  86. Maddy Says:

I know your t=not taking any new comments on this site but I just gotta let everybody know that there is a petition against the two per country rule here: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/scrap-2-gymnasts-per-final

  87. H Says:

Agree regarding not well made beam routine for Jo. The only thing they did changed lately was the free cartwheel connection etc, was it not?

Do anyone know what Jo D score was with the previous routine? She had 6.0 (?) today. If they had accepted the connections, what would it then have been.

    Best from Miss question:-)

  88. Luckystar Says:

Gabby and Aly shouldn’t give up their spots for Jordyn. They beat her. The end.

However, whoever the girl at the bottom is, who snuck into the AA because Jo isn’t going shouldn’t be there.

It’s because of BS rules like this one that gymnastics isn’t taken seriously as a sport.

No one argues that other US mens swimmers shouldn’t compete because Phelps and Lochte are better. No one says only Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake should get to compete in the 100 m final.

The AA isn’t the TF and the color of leo a girl is wearing shouldn’t factor into the selection. Its an individual event. If one country sweeps who cares. They happened to have three of the best INDIVIDUALS. I’d rather have that than have another athlete make the podium on default, because the one who would have beat them can’t compete.

    • Gymbee Says:

Exactly! Imagine the uproar if the third fastest Jamaican wasn’t allowed in the 100 m final, but had to make room for a slow runner who wouldn’t even be out of the blocks before Usain and Yohan crossed the finish line.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Well, in these sports (such as swimming at least, that I know for sure) they kind of limit it to two per country prior to the Games. In Trials the top two of each event (except for events needed in relays) advance to the Olympics. So the third-fastest guy in say the 200 M free won’t be competing at the Olympics; however, a slower guy in Australia could be competing that event in the Olympics if he made top two in HIS country. I hope that made sense. So in effect they do have the “two per country” thing going on (at least in swimming, I’m not sure about track) but it takes place BEFORE the Games, at Trials.

      • Luckystar Says:

I didn’t know that about swimming (I’ll admit I am not a sports fan for anything but gymnastics lol)

I still think rule is bs though. The Olympics are for the best of the best. Whats the point of having them if the best of the best get jilted for a mediocre athlete from another country (I’m not even American and I’m upset).

If they insist on having the rule then (like swimming et al) they should have sorted it out before the Olympics. I know Marta loves intense internal competition because it pushes the girls, but an upset like this could potentially screw with the team dynamic for the TF.

      • Gymbee Says:

I think the Olympics need to find a good balance between “best of the best” and the whole thinking behind the Olympics in the first place, with each country sending their best representatives, and battling it out on the sportsfield in fair play and peace.

    • JAS4 Says:

I really hope they change the two per country rule it’s ridiculous I still don’t understand how Jordyn’s start value on floor was only a 6.0 its usually a 6.2-6.3 and I didn’t notice anything she wouldn’t have got credit for? She had the OOB but that doesn’t affect SV

      • Anonymous Says:

could it have been dance? maybe not credited due to splits not being 180? its hard for me to comment on the judging because my feed was a little choppy on many of the routines so I couldn’t tell what should be credited.

    • Gymbee Says:

Another thing: By having three girls do AA, 1 girl would’ve been left disappointed anyway. In qualis, I guess they could have used McKaylas bars over Aly’s, (but this way open the possibility for an injury to the top vaulter). That would’ve been unfair to Aly though, but at least they would’ve known in advance.
Now there’s the risk of Jordyn being mentally down for TF’s, which might cost them gold (personally I think she’ll be fine.)

      • Anonymous Says:

I think she will be fine… not only is she tough but lets face it she still wants “Olympic Gold Medalist” after her name even if it can only be the team medal.

  89. JAS4 Says:

    What?????????

  90. Kittykat Says:

Haven’t watched it yet so bare with me, crying over Jo however, is there no justice?! Was Aly’s amanar her usual shit? Because if so, how did she get 15.8 and Jo get 15 low??? Wah ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  91. Gymbee Says:

Jordyn in 6th for Floor finals after Izbasas routine.

    • hclovespink Says:

When everyone has competed, would someone mind posting what usa girls are in event finals please? Thanks ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Jazzy31 Says:

I reeeeaaalllly want Jordyn to have a shot at an indiv medal. I’d love to see her and Aly w/ Oly medals for floor.

  92. sanitynmotion Says:

GIFT for Ponor, but Iordache is out on FX finals – too bad, she was doing so well at first too. This is good news for Aly though. However Ponor’s score (and I love Ponor) was way too high.
Oh wait some Japan girl might just sneak her way into finals too…

  93. sanitynmotion Says:

Another thought on bars…it’s going to be a tough final (looks like all bars finalists will be above 15.0!) …based on standings is Tweddle screwed?

Aly’s totally screwed on floor finals. I think the top qualifier goes first. She won’t get a gold medal on floor if she goes first. Sorry, but that’s just the way it normally goes. She should have stepped OOB or something. Jordyn’s standing might actually help her if she makes it.

    • Jazzy31 Says:

I thought they did a random draw? The best goes first??? What kind of a dumba$$ rule is that??

      • Gymbee Says:

It was a random draw, but on FX it just turned out that the top qualifier went first.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think it was randomly drawn already (like out of a hat). I remember someone posting on here what the placements would be for the top qualifiers in the event finals. I also specifically remember thinking hopefully Aly won’t qualify first because she’d have to go first (that was the draw). She’s screwed unless the people going after her mess up…and I doubt that will happen.

      • Jazzy31 Says:

I think they should carry over scores from qualifying. Show who is really solid on each event.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

They should to award consistency but nothing seems to happen as it should…argh. At least Romania is doing well on beam. Likely to place third overall behind USA and Russia.

      • Jazzy31 Says:

Just saw Ponor’s beam. It had a lot of mistakes. Could it be a beam final without Romania??

    • Biyatch Says:

top qualifier goes 3rd i believe. 2nd qualifier goes last

    • Biyatch Says:

Aly has a pretty significant lead over the next closest qualifying score on floor. With her D-score they might not be able to do enough to screw her.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I really hope you’re right Biyatch. I hope she wins that gold medal. It’d be nice to see her win an individual gold…I guess assuming she doesn’t win the AA gold. That’d be cool but I don’t see that happening unless Komova messes up.

I’m kind of hoping Iordache wins gold now. Or Musty. If Aly doesn’t.

I was honestly originally hoping for Jordyn and am just shocked she’s not in it. Shocked.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Izbasa was overscored too.

  94. sanitynmotion Says:

Kind of bummed for Romania – struggled on bars quite a bit. NBC feed sucks. Every 10 seconds there’s a commercial and it pauses or stops. Sigh.

    • Gymbee Says:

Use the expatshield.com ! Just suggested it to a US friend of mine and he’s happy he doesnt have to deal with the NBC commentary and commercials.

  95. nero Says:

Izbasa is in AA finals 3 POINTS behind Wieber. Didn’t the FIG/IOC say they reduced the number of gymnasts per team to make it more competitive?

Taking out someone who qualifies 4th is lessening the competitive field. Gymnast X who starts on floor will end up with a 50.00 AA score, but the reigning world champ can’t compete. Disgusting

  96. JAS4 Says:

    https://twitter.com/intlgymnast/status/229672561640873984
Ponor scores over 15 with wobbles everywhere! I am calling bs scoring now!

  97. Gymbee Says:

    USA Finals:

    FX:
    1. Raisman
    6. Wieber

    UB:
    6. Douglas

    VT:
    1. Maroney

    BB:
    3. Douglas
    5. Raisman

  98. sanitynmotion Says:

I love Ponor, but the judging here was atrocious. If she got to be in beam and floor finals, then I don’t know what’s going on. Her worst beam set I’ve seen her do in a long time. Her floor she completely fell out of that one pass. She got two large gifts at the expense of a lot of other people, wow.

That being said though I hope she brings it in finals.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She still had the start value and that is what saved her. That is what saved Gabby on beam too. These judges keep giving the start value to missed connections and if Douglas wins a beam medal at the Olympic games I will call for the event to be disbanded and taken out of the Olympics.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

This just proves that the code is a joke. It’s really making this sport an atrocity.

(Do you know what Jordyn’s start value would have been if she got credited her connections?)

Wonder if Geddert can petition Jo’s scores; if Ponor and even that first Romanian (Bulimar?) got their connections I’m sure Jordyn should have received hers.

I haven’t seen the US quals yet (tonight I will) so should be interesting.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Bulimer had a great routine. I thought she was underscored compared to the gifts her teammates received.

It is too late to protest scores. He should have done it then. I think her first connection was close enough to get credit. At least the first two elements.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think 6.5 Her score isn’t my issue. Gabby’s score is.

I was going to say the floor judges were closest to being fair today but then Romania got some gifts that changed my mind on that.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I love me some Romanian gymnastics but apparently the judges really love them. Iordache didn’t compete full difficulty on vault

      • nero Says:

did they take away Komova’s connections? I like Ponor and she said something in support of abolishing the 2 per country, but those scores are well, generous

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No one knows if she really said that or if a fake account did.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I missed Russia altogether. I think Grishina fell off bars.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I guess Geddert didn’t realize that Jordyn’s missed connections would cost her an AA spot so he didn’t protest.

The Team competition against Russia will be close. I hope Jordyn’s downfall doesn’t distract them.

That being said I can’t help but foresee Gabby having a disaster in Finals. Do you think they’ll use her for BB over Jordyn given what happened today? Yikes. I’m going to have to wear gloves on Tuesday.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She will be used. Marta feels justified with all the overscoring she gave Gabby.

      • nero Says:

That’s the thing though. I thought her front handspring to full WERE connected, not the full to back handspring. But they took every connection away. Sigh

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I was told by a friend from another site that Geddert was told Jordyn would not get credit for her connections in podium training and he ignored them.

I agree. I don’t remember details because the feed was a mess but she connected the first two skills and was slightly off on the third but she got no credit for any of them.

The front handspring is not in flight. That is why she didn’t get credit for it. In order to get credit it needs to be a flight skill and Jordyn never got the front handspring in flight. It was more like a walk over.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

ARgh gag me with a fork then if Gabby’s being used for beam in team finals.

Geddert is an idiot then for not listening. Needs to check the ego.

      • Gymbee Says:

nero – me too! I was so happy, and I said “yay she connected it finally!”. Ugh.

  99. nero Says:

Kohei qualifies in 9th in AA, gets to compete. Jordyn qualifies 4th doesn’t get to compete. NO JUSTICE

I know Jordyn could have done better, she should have done better. But those judges were brutal with her.

You know heads would be rolling if it was Aly and Jordyn in AA and not Gabby

    • Jazzy31 Says:

I wish it was Aly and Jordan in AA. That’s what I was hoping for.

Who makes these stupid rules? Is there a committee I can get on to change them?? Maybe there’s a spot for a “fan representative”

    • mim Says:

ashleigh brennan who scored a 54 gets to compete AA.
call me unpatriotic but bump the girl down for jordyn… scored over a 60 and can’t compete. surely FIG has to see how unjust that is.
i will never get over this. can only imagine how jordyn feels. i hope she gets a team gold at least.

  100. Gymbee Says:

    UGH Gabby’s quote:

“Everyone was talking about me and her (Wieber) and ‘the showdown’, and after Aly’s floor routine everyone got really shocked. But, all have to learn how to deal with disappointments. But I’m so proud of Aly. She deserved it.”

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She doesn’t think Aly is a threat. This is exactly why Gabby is on the outside looking in. These girls know what a cocky shit she is.

      • Gymbee Says:

Yup! The “all have to learn how to deal with disappointment” pissed me off. Listen to Gabby, the voice of reason. Can you imagine if she was out of AA, she’d never say “I just have to learn how to deal with disappointment”.
Aly was sweet as usual in her response, didn’t come off cocky at all.

      • JAS4 Says:

I think they should take the top 16 AA qualifiers from any country no matter how many and then take 8 more qualifiers from countries that didn’t have an AA qualify in the top 16 then you get the best AAers and also gymnast from non powerhouse countries

      • Kittykat Says:

I’m sorry, I know this is irrational and that she’s a 16 year old girl but I REALLY FREAKING HATE GABBY. And Marta and the judges and overscoring and skxncjsjnsejrnrnnr

Okay I feel better now, sorry about that

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Gawd the girl needs to enter grammar school…(Gabby). And someone needs to give her media training, like a year ago, along with a new floor routine.

  101. The Dude Says:

Call me crazy, but this could be an excellent opportunity for Wieber. She can really focus in on the team now. I’m hoping Marta will still use her for all-around for TF. She can be the true leader of the team and hero if she keeps her shit together. I think she knows deep down she’s got to be there for the team. Hopefully her coach will too. If USA win gold she will be heralded as a key player.

    • Gymbee Says:

Will Marta use her given that she’s not being awarded ANY of her beam connections though?

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I think it depends on practices. this is another example of why the US needs to get out and do world cup events and get out of Karolyis ranch. had Jordyn gone to Doha or Ghent this would not have been a surprise and there would have been ample time to correct it.

    • Johnsonlover Says:

You know what will be crazy? If jordyn gets a higher score than the score she got in qualifying, talk about bad timing..

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t think they will use her on beam and it will be interesting if they use her on vault over Aly. She stepped OOB and got a deduction or she would have outscored Aly.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I’m sure jordyn will score better in TF …. The irony of this is on a bad day she was still over 60 and 4th in the world.

      • Jazzy31 Says:

I don’t think they’ll use her on beam. How can they? They need to do what will score highest for the team and that will prob be Gabby.
Excellent point Exgymgurl. It’s time to quit spending so much time hanging at the ranch with the llamas. Get out in the world!

      • Casc Says:

Seriously, would anyone risk Gabby on beam in team finals? The Russians are close, so US can’t have any falls on beam. There are three girls that don’t fall off the beam (I mean: like ever, seriously, does anyone remember when was the last time Kyla, Jordyn or Aly was off the beam before dismount? i don’t, and I think I’ve been watching a lot). Jordyn probably will start as AA or maybe without vault (but still, I would be much happier if Jordyn vaults for the team than Gabby).

If they win a gold medal in team, probably nobody will pay any attention to AA medals or event medals, because for US gold in team is everything they want. To have a golden gymnast is good, but having a golden team is much better. That’s why we need now to get medal for Gabby (but gold would be… bad for team, it may be really hard to focus on team finals, and they still need her), but silver or bronze would be ok. I don’t think Aly would be affected in any way by the color of medal she gets (if she gets one), but at this point it would be really nice for her to win. Komova is great, but inconsistent, Aly is consistent and has three great events, so in my book she deserves it. And I think it would be also good for morale of US team (“Judges undercored Jordyn to let Komova win, but Aly can still screw their “.

  102. gymnastwannbe Says:

Gabby needs to just be happy for herself and keep her mouth shut until everything is over. If Marta goes w/ her instead of Jordyn for beam, Gabby will need to focus on keeping herself on the beam or good-bye gold medal…then she’ll (and the whole team) need to learn to deal with disappointment!

  103. Exgymgurl Says:

I honestly am thinking of that mean girls gymnastics YouTube right now. Gabby is acting like she beat Aly which she didn’t. if Geddert knew from podium training the connections wouldn’t be counted he did a crappy job preparing her, because honestly he should have known that sooner. if I’m Gabby I’m not so cocky and arrogant right now. Imagine if Chellsie Memmel had qualified AA over Nastia in 2008. Could have happened if she wasn’t injured.

  104. nero Says:

Larissa qualified 9th right? So she starts on bars. I hope she fucks some bitches up during AA and chucks that amanar during last rotation and wins. Then I hope Mustafina comes in 2nd and Aly in 3rd

Gabby is 6th on bars which means she gets to go last, but if all of the other girls hit she wont medal. The judges are setting up Ponor to win beam

Jordyn goes 2nd on floor, sucks for her. Hope she medals

    • mim Says:

i’d be really happy with this outcome too: larisa gold, aliya silver, aly bronze. and a big “gabby who?” to top it off.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Both feet OOB at teh same time is 5 tenths. Gaby was overscored on floor BIG TIME

      • JAS4 Says:

She also had like a total of 6 hops/small steps while OOB aren’t each of those deductions

  105. Exgymgurl Says:

Ponor wins beam tweddle wins bars, Maroney wins vault and Jordyn wins floor. Aly comes in third on floor and gets bronze. AA goes to Komova / Iordache / Mustafina. He Xexin takes silver on bars, Ferrari gets some color of a medal. Izbasa takes silver Vault / Floor. Bulimar gets a bronze on the beam… It would be so sad if Jordyn and Maroney got individual golds, Aly got a bronze and no one medaled AA like in 1996… And we get team gold remember dom Moceanu made a career out of one team medal

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I dont see Jo getting a medal on floor if she’s up second unless everyone screws up. That’s just the way that event final typically works.

      • nero Says:

Her floor was only .3 out of the 3rd highest qualifier. Take out the OOB and Jo sticking her double double and double pike like she normally does and it could happen.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I can definitely see the judges setting that up for jordyn. Especially if the US is completely off podium in AA

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I understand Jo “should’ have a solid chance of getting gold on floor but her placement going second doesn’t bode well. Especially if there are Russians/Romanians going after her.

All she can do now is redeem herself during team finals and hopefully have fun on FX finals.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

The judges, have already decided who is winning what if they are clean. They will know what Jordyns score and what alys score is. Doesn’t matter what anyone else does. Like how Marta has already picked her world team for next year and how Memmel didn’t advance while Nastia did with horrendous bars. The US weekly pics prove it, Marta had planned to use Nastia over Kyla but Nastia couldn’t get her Pak back. Kyla was the backup plan. ASac never factored on this team, even if she had floor.

  106. tulip Says:

I completely agree that the judges are setting up Ponor for the gold. No doubt. Remember, Nellie Kim is head of a judging committee and she was caught blatantly cheating some time ago. So, she gets rewarded by being head judge. Then a recent judge caught cheating at Worlds. No one would say who it was, how they cheated, or for what team they got creative in the scoring. It wouldn’t surprise me if that judge is on the floor today. That’s the FIG.

    • Catherine Says:

I don’t see Nellie helping a Romanian somehow. She’s not even scoring routines anymore, I’m pretty sure. The two judges at worlds last year scandal was related to Komova on floor in AA. Not sure how exactly.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Head judges can force judges to change their scores. Jackie Fie did it to Shannon Miller TWICE in 96

  107. DL Says:

Dawes refers to Raisman as the “reigning world champion on floor” in this clip, wtf: http://msn.foxsports.com/olympics/gymnastics/story/jordyn-wieber-dreams-come-to-bitter-end-in-london-072912

  108. sanitynmotion Says:

GTT #blindbeamjudges your twitter to Jo’s mom was classic.

What happened in 96 to Shannon with the judges? I was too young/stupid to know the behind-the-scenes stuff.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I have always said I would not send messages to gymnasts or coaches on twitter but it is so hard to keep my mouth shut when people tweet things that drive me nuts.lol

Jackie Fie ran over to have Shannon Miller’s bars and floor scores lowered. Team finals for floor and UB during team finals too. Jackie Fie is a known Dawes ass kisser.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Why didn’t Shannon’s coaches do something about that? OMG that makes me sick.

Please don’t keep your mouth shut. It’s about time someone says something. All this “be nice” crap and ignore the blatant obvious is getting to me. I mean, it’s not like they can ban you from Twitter.

      • JAS4 Says:

Keep speaking out the gymnastics world needs it!

They keep saying Aly knocked Jordyn out of the AA hello!!!! She qualified first Gabby is in second so technically she was the one to “knock Jordyn out of the AA” I think if those connections on beam had been addressed beforehand it would be Jordyn and Aly in the AA but I still think Jordyn’s floor was underscored concise ring Ponor botched a pass and got almost the same score

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That picture kills me. That smile on Gabby’s face says, yes, I don’t have to deal with Jordyn and Aly is no damn competition.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I agree I thinks she feels like she has it in the bag I really hope Aly does well and I may be wrong but I think Jordyn was the best chance for beating Komova in the AA but I agree with you that the fix may be in for Komova which is why they wanted Jordyn out of the AA but I guess I will be cheering for Aly to do well in the AA now

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What could he do. ALL the judges were inline with Shannon’s bar score and Jackie Fie thought it was too high so she ran over and made them change it. She did the same thing on floor.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I just don’t understand. How does Fie have all that power (like, honestly why would the judges change their scores then?) …is it because she was the head judge? Politics?

Agh, it’s like a love hate relationship with this sport.

  109. Katie Says:

Ok, I’m pretty pissed off. Did anyone read “Feel No Fear” where Bela literally blamed Kim’s subpar ’92 Barcelona showing on a systematic breakdown courtesy of USAG? Remember the line where he told her to keep her head up bit he knew she could tell exactly what was going on. Why me? I’m the world champion? Should I be be given a mental and psychological push for the games? Bela was pissed pissed off as fuck that Shannon over scored Kimbo at Trials. He blamed that meet on her downfall at the Olympics. He thought she should have been built up instead of torn down.

So why did the same this same thing happen to Jordyn. Marta was very hands on with Kim. Why did she do that to Jordyn?

Why did the reigning AA queen get her confidence torn down in Nationals (Gabby would have won without the fall) and during Trials.

Just like Bela said about Kim in his book “Jordyn knew EXACTLY what was going on and all she could do was watch and wonder”

    • Jazzy31 Says:

Good catch, Katie. I read that book years ago and I forgot about that. Now Marta has destroyed a different world champ.

  110. Exgymgurl Says:

Same way the fix was in and Marta wanted Chellsie out of nationals / trials?

    • gymglitterxx Says:

I don’t hate :Chellsie by any means, but someone who falls twice doesn’t need a “fix” to be kept out of a competition.

    • gymglitterxx Says:

There a lot of things I hate about Martha, but how can you justify letting someone with two falls petition through ahead of other gymnasts who didn’t make it?

    • Casc Says:

You are missing the point completely. All this thing with Chellsie was abut stupid rules that they used for qualifying to Visa’s, especially since she was named to National Team year before and couldn’t compete because of injury. Not to mention : she is a Chellsie Memmel, not exactly “nobody” in USA gymnastics, right? Basically the rules were to get 28.0 on two events to qualify, and qualifying by one event only was bullshit they came up with to get Nastia to nationals (since it was obvoius she couldn’t compete bars yet, and her score would be below 28 in two events). And national team members don’t have to qualify for Visa’s (Nastia had to do this, because she was coming back after a long break).

  111. kittykat Says:

Sorry for the late comments, but I’m only watching now. WHY IS NO ONE CONSOLING JO???? She’s standing there crying and the rest of the team have their backs to her. I get that it’s hard to know what to say, but come on guys. A hug would be better than nothing

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree. Please stop pretending these girls are BFF’s.

      Jordyn was robbed

      • kittykat Says:

Legitimately nearly teared up watching her cry with her arms wrapped around herself. No one even acknowledged her presence, totally underscored on floor, beam maybe by .1 or so. Also, freaking typical that Gabby is shown talking to the media for about 10 minutes straight.
immense frustration going on here in Australia

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What is Australia frustrated about ??? Details, please

      • kittykat Says:

Oh god, the list is humonguous, coverage for one. I’d rather like to see Aly and Gabby’s beam routines to see how much of a farce the judging was.
The fact that Lauren Mitchell (I’m not very patriotic) qualified over Wieber.
        Victoria Moors’ 14.1…
No Grish or Iordache in floor/beam finals ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
I’m going to go cry into my pillow now

      • kittykat Says:

Oh, and USA’s leotards. I can’t remember who said this, might have been someone IG (I lurk), but it looks like a giant marijuana leaf. Although it is a slimming colour…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

WHERE THE HELL IS BETH TWEDDLE ON BARS

      • kittykat Says:

SOMEONE HUG JORDYN, friggin hell. She’s handling it very well though, tears – duh, I’d be crying too, but no Komova-style moping or any shit like that

      • kittykat Says:

ok what… WHERE THE FUCK IS AFAN ON FLOOR
screw you foxtel, now I’m grumpy

    • mim Says:

im surprised john wasn’t consoling her more either. maybe he was somewhere kicking up a fuss. i hope he was. i feel for her parents too, watching her no doubt but unable to comfort her. must be gut-wrenching for them also.

aly no doubt was feeling that awful combo of excitement and guilt, gabby was thinking “just give me the gold now” and i didnt see mckayla or kyla with jordyn at all now that i think of it. it’s really strange because mckayla seems genuine bffs with jordyn. hmm. i’d hate to think they didnt really care about what happened.

      • kittykat Says:

Was Geddert dragged off by Marta or something? I didn’t see him anywhere either.

    • mim Says:

kittykat – dont worry lauren only made it to floor finals not AA (with jordyn!), but i agree about ash brennan and emily little. kick one of them out for jordyn, aussies were embarassing to watch last night. didnt deserve to make TF.

      who is commentating on foxtel?

      • kittykat Says:

Mim – Yeah I know, she wasn’t competing bars because of that shoulder. Seems like a lovely girl but I just can’t get excited by her gymnastics. Lol to be honest, I have no idea who’s commentating foxtel! haha I’ll do some research

  112. tulip Says:

I thought the team handled those last few minutes very poorly. They should have been there for her the way she had been there for them. And I agree with Tim Dagget, all things being equal, she was underscored on floor and beam.

  113. gymnastwannbe Says:

I don’t get it. It’s obvious the fix is in for Gabby, but why? Why underscore Jordyn like this? Gabby is Marta’s new pet but Bela sounds like he’s for Jordyn. If Jordyn rebounds and kicks butt on Tues. she is truly the most amazing gymnast in London. I hope Gabby doesn’t tank in tf but I sure hope she doesn’t medal in aa. She needs some serious humble pie.

    • kittykat Says:

I feel horrible being so mean about a teenage girl, but if they put Gabby up in TF on beam and she mucks up, it’s their own fault. I will cry if she medals in AA, girl needs to learn some respect for her team mates and competitors
