Tonight I was at Fenway. Turns out Bridget Sloan was also at Fenway. We were in the same section and I had no clue. My seats were better than her but it makes me laugh to know she was literally 10 feet away and I had no clue. SMALLEST world EVER. Glad to know I didn’t have to suffer alone.
Bridget wants to know how the game is played and LOL had the best comment to that. Yep well the players on the field have no clue how to play either. WHATEVER RedSox. Is that a beer Bridget?
Mckayla Maroney is out this year. Probably a good thing.

I think it might be good for McKayla too take this year off to heal properly. Hopefully she can take her time and maybe upgrade on vault and floor.

to* not too lol I am beyond sleepy lol

So glad to see Aly actually doing gymnastics rather than just talking about it like certain others. Rooting for her all the way.
July 31, 2014 at 11:54 AM |
I’m really rooting for Aly! I still find it strange she didn’t come back this year given the shape she seems to be in (compared to some others, hmmm). But I hope that means she is taking it slow and steady so she peak for Rio 🙂

That Dos Santos is absolutely beautiful. I know its a rod floor but still. It’s so lofty I was kind of wondering if she could lay it out (although I think a Dos Santos II is only a G in the CoP so probably not worth the built in deductions.)
I’m surprised she didn’t try to come back this year too. At least on beam and floor, if she still wants to do AA she could of always just waited for vault and bars for next year. Seeing as the US is a bit brutal on beam this year I’m sure a 6.2-6.3 beam set consistently hit could have gotten her a worlds spot. I trust that Mihai knows what he’s doing though and hope she’ll at least get Worlds consideration next year. There were rumors a bit back that she was working on big beam upgrades as well so I guess we’ll see.
Maybe she’ll be competition ready enough to compete in the 2 World Cups in December (and pick up a couple of nice $16,000+ checks if she wins.)
July 31, 2014 at 9:35 PM |
Agreed. Aly just needs to focus on floor and beam. Marta has plenty of vaulters and she will never use Aly on bars. If Aly can get her 2012 FX back or something close plus a solid beam I could see her on the Rio team.
I agree that if shes in shape by December that it wouldn’t hurt to test out everything at the last two world cups of the year.
July 31, 2014 at 9:54 AM |
Im not surprised. Frankly I don’t see her making it to Rio either, but then again you never know.
July 31, 2014 at 2:53 PM |
McKayla looks like she’s out of shape (just her arms aren’t as cut) so I’m sure she’s had to take a bunch of time off to heal. Better now than 1.5 years from now (like ASac’s injury).
Aly looks good – the more I think about it, the more I can see her being on the Rio team over anyone else in the FF only because it seems we lack a solid beamer and everyone knows Aly is trustworthy as a competitor. I think her pacing is smart/strategic at most. She could rush herself but why do that.

Duh, “Fierce Five,” NM. We need an edit button. 🙂

Not sure if anyone else is watching CWG but bars final… Larrissa Miller of Aus won silver.. get. it. girl! She totally hit, it was such a clean and floaty routine, just gorgeous. It’s like I finally have hope for the sport in Aust haha.
Dipa Kamarkar landing her Produnova (deep squat but landed!) and watching her win India’s first ever gymnastics medal (bronze on vault) was rather special.
Claudia Fragapane (who so reminds me of ASac/AQuin looks wise) seems to be getting some gifts from the judges…
Ari Agripides pulling out of Classics is a shame. I wonder if their coach is going to ease up a bit or whether it will go back to business as usual for her and Laurie.

I am a little distracted with baseball stuff so I have not been watching. Thanks for the info
August 1, 2014 at 7:08 AM |
Larissa Miller was gorgeous on bars! And yep I agree with the Fragapane gifting.
August 1, 2014 at 10:27 AM
No probs GTT. Downie was fun to watch on bars too, not as clean as Miller but dynamic and exciting nonetheless.
I really like Fragapane but Ellie’s vault was better. I hope her wins don’t make her coaches (or her) complacent about tidying up form etc.

Dipa’s Prud vault from commonwealth EFs
I have to say although it is still scary it’s not quite as terrifying as some of the others that have been attempted. If she could get a slightly better block to get a little more height it might help her to land better
August 1, 2014 at 6:24 AM |
I’m amazed it has taken 15 years for another WAG to land it without sitting completely. I’m impressed, cowboyed-squat landing and all.
August 1, 2014 at 7:06 AM |
I hate to see gymnasts chucking that skill, like her and Pena. If it can’t be landed consistently, it’s not safe. You can see from their and their coaches surprised reaction when they “land” it that it’s rare. I know it pays off when by some miracle they manage to land with their feet a nanosecond before their bottom, but it’s just ugly in my opinion.
August 1, 2014 at 4:26 PM |
Super Nastia cowboyed but impressed that she lands it. Hopefully we can see her do it at the Olympics – should make vault finals very interesting.
August 1, 2014 at 6:40 AM |
Yay! Sara Bareilles! I LOVE her. I see her live in just a few days! 🙂
August 1, 2014 at 2:40 PM |
Ellie black got a well deserved gold on beam with a 14.9. A little justice perhaps after she was cheated out of vault gold by blatant over scoring for Fragapane.
August 1, 2014 at 5:34 PM |
Is Sloan already 21+? Cripes, where has the time gone. I guess she’s gotta be if she’s posting videos with a brewksi.
I tuned out of the Classic live coverage pretty fast as it was centred from a distance just on the vault and while I could recognize certain coaches, not necessarily the gymnasts.
Aly does look in good shape. She must be working hard – as even a couple months ago when we saw pics she was notably bigger. I’m also surprised she wouldn’t make a run of it sooner. She seems to have less distractions than some of the others – injury and commitment-wise.
August 1, 2014 at 6:35 PM |
I just tuned in and luckily hit the period of time where Simone, Kyla, and Mykayla were vaulting. All I’ve noticed so far is that Simone’s vaults look HUGE. I mean, even compared to a power vaulter like Mykayla, there’s no comparison in height and distance. I should mention, they’re just vaulting timers right now.
August 1, 2014 at 5:37 PM |
PS. Too bad about Mckayla. I wasn’t expecting to see her this summer but was hoping she’d sneak onto the World Team somehow. I do have faith in her, though. She’s lean, and has better luxury than others in terms of getting into shape/difficulty quickly. Her comeback after London was nothing short of brilliant. My fingers personally are crossed for her in the future. In the meantime, this world team will be verrrrrry interesting to see come about. Great opportunity there for the taking for many of these girls – time to fight and see some new faces!

Gabby surfaces at a gym in Ohio. Marta doesn’t approve.

Yeah I think Gabby had her chance with Chow and blew it. She’s done. I don’t buy that she’ll make a comeback, and within a few months the excuses will come out.
August 1, 2014 at 7:25 PM |
LOL. Actually like what Marta has to say here. I did hear that someone from Waller’s moved to Buckeye shortly before Gabby did, so maybe that was a connection. But clearly Chow is a master coach and liked by the powers that be, and obviously her last ticket to success. Personally I’m glad as I’m not a Gabby fan and think she needs a taste of her own medicine with all these shenanigans.

Me toooooo. I think the Red Sox have but me in a bitter mood til baseball season is over so these poor gymnasts are in for hell the next 3 months.
August 1, 2014 at 7:26 PM |
SHE NEVER INTENDED TO GO TO NATIONALS. Why lie? God I hope she breaks a leg. Mean or not she needs to go away.
August 2, 2014 at 7:38 AM |
This comment by Chow:
“I wish them the best of luck,” Chow said. “We all have to move on. She has her dreams to achieve and I have my duties to perform (training four other elite gymnasts).”
….almost reminds me of, “We all have to learn to deal with disappointment.” A little dig by Chow? Hehehehehehee.

You scared me with the latest update. I thought Sac-bitch was considering a return to elite.
