An open Letter to Jon Lester – UPDATED

I will probably delete this tomorrow but I just need to get it off my chest.

Thanks for your part in the 2 World Series we won Jon Lester but FUCK YOU.

FUCK YOU for being a money grubbing jackass that thinks your worth 24 million a year even though the only time you show up is in the post season every 5 years.

FUCK YOU Jon Lester for saying one thing to the fans and media and having your agent demand the exact opposite behind everyone’s back. I don’t believe for a second you didn’t do just exactly that because if you had not then there is no way the Red Sox would have you on the trade market at this very moment.

I am completely over these MLB players thinking they deserve these contracts because idiotic teams like the Yankees offer them.

Lester is 30 years old and has never had an ERA under 3 until this year ( Welcome to the contract year of a professional athlete)

While Lester may have had an amazing post season last year his ERA in the regular season was 3.75.

During 2012 when the entire team sucked Lester’s ERA was 4.82 and during 2011 when the team choked away the playoffs on the last day of the season Lester had a 3.47 so you are trying to tell me that equals a contract of over 22 -24 million a year?

What planet do Red Sox fans live on?

The owners of this team have not been perfect but they spend between 148 and 170 million A YEAR on helping this team win and I can’t believe how many people are picking this one player over the team itself.

I have never been embarrassed to be a Red Sox fan in my life but as sad and obnoxious as this is going to sound I think the worst thing to ever happen to this team was the 2004 World Series Championship.

Its made the fans a bunch of whiny self entitled brats that now think what they want is above the game itself.

If winning 3 World Series and having a payroll at 170 million isn’t enough for you then maybe just maybe you should go find a new team to root for.

I bet the Tigers would take this teams success the last ten years. I bet the Pirates would. The Orioles would and The cub most certainly would but you continue to whine because one player thinks he is above the team?

I don’t understand this and I doubt I ever will.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Red Sox Fans renewed my faith in them this morning when they didn’t jump ship even though last night they all had plans too. Thanks for getting it.
    I love when you get mad and feisty. 🙂
    I just wish I could rant with you, but sadly I know as much about baseball as I do nuclear physics. For instance, what the hell is an ERA???? LOL.
    This is where Case needs to step in and cover for us baseball illiterates. Case we need you!!! Please help GTT with her baseball woes (’cause I’m not looking up what an ERA is). 🙂
    The Twins would take their success too. 🙂 Yeah, Twins! And Angels! Even though they have a huge payroll too.
    The Yankees screwed everything up.
    I would commit several felonies for my team (Indians) to have the last decade the Red Sox have had. Our owners went all in when we hired Francona, but 2 short years later, it seems we’re getting ready to blow it all up. And our team wonders why the fans don’t show up. Consistency brings the crowds, and the Indians have shown none of that that.
    Teams like the Red Sox, Angels, Dodgers, and of course, Yankees have made it nearly impossible for mid market teams to compete and sustain success. The stars made on this level always seem to leave when it comes time for that big contract. Any Sox fan who has the balls to complain about “giving up” or “giving away Lester” needs to remember how freakin’ lucky they are.
      I don’t mind giving up Lester for the right deal. The fact is he wants more money then anyone should be willing to pay but the Red Sox are not the Yankees.
      The Yankees buy at will and if we were the Yankees Lester would be here because we would be paying him the money he thinks he is worth.
      Don’t get me wrong 150 million dollar payroll is huge and a lot more than a lot of teams but with the market we are in we can afford it.
      The Sox don’t make their money on ticket sales. We have one of the smallest parks in MLB but they own the network we are played on and they use that money to pay the team.
      It just kills me that people actually complain it isn’t enough.
      I guarantee you next year both Lester and Max Scherzer will be Yankees. That would never happen here. It happened here once and it backfired big time (Crawford and Gonzalez)
      No offense but Francona was fools gold. He sat on his ass for two years and let the place get out of control. He wanted to be the players BFF’s instead of their manager and the team paid for it. Not that grown man shouldn’t be able to handle their own shit off the field.
      I wouldn’t say big market teams have ruined it for small market teams. The Giants seem to be doing okay because they take the free money they received from the Steinbrenners and put it back into their teams. The luxery tax is a joke IMO and the Red Sox don’t usually pay it. Most of it comes from the Yankees. Then there is the Cardinals getting an extra draft pick because they are a small market team that just happened to be in the world series last year and won 2 of them in the last 6 or 7 years.
      Baseball is messed up allowing stuff like that to happen.
      • sportsfan Says:
        If both Lester and Scherzer become Yankees, I may quit baseball. And pickup drinking as a habit.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        And I bet price ends up there a year later. Its gonna happen. Wait because the Yankee are due to buy whatever they need.
    • Case Says:
      Right there with you Sportsfan…what I wouldn’t give for a decade like the Red Sox. Tired of getting so, so close and not being able to win it all.
    Soon 2014 Secret U.S. Classic. Hurrah!
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      I have to work. What no likey the baseball bitching:)
      I will write a blog later tonight or tomorrow
    • mim Says:
      Apparently Maroney is out for the season. Not surprising as she’s been injured for ages.
      Sorry I know this doesn’t relate to bsseball (of which I know nothing about!)!
  5. Case Says:
    Noooooo not Oakland! Anywhere but Oakland. Ugh. They are the World Series favorite now by a long shot.
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      I am sorry. I was surprised the Tigrs weren’t in on this but don’t worry about Oakland. They get to the post season and then lose.
      • Case Says:
        Starting pitching is the one thing the Tigers don’t need and unfortunately you are giving it away in spades. The A’s are formidable and we do not match up well against them now. Yikes, yikes, yikes.
        Why do you think they dumped Lackey? He only costs $500K next year.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Lackey told our media he would retire before he plays for that money.
        I HATE DAVID PRICE. He is a punk ass jerk and I HATE that he went to the Tigers who I like and now can’t root for and no way in hell I am rooting for the Boston Athletics.
        And we traded Drew to the YANKEES? I can’t even breath.
        I root for the shirt but this is getting ridiculous.
        Glad I live in a baseball city though where we get 4 hours of baseball coverage on a day where we have no baseball game.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Your pitching beats A’s what I don;’t know enough about is their hitting vs yours. There are 8 Red Sox players on the A’s now 8 FREAKING PLAYERS.
        Its crazy
  6. Case Says:
    I kinda like the trade for Price for the Tigers. Our owner is half dead so we need to win now as in right now this year. I also think it’s insurance for when Scherzer goes to the Yankees…maybe we can sign Price longer term.
    We didn’t give up much in my opinion. Jackson is so frustrating at the plate and Smyly is okay, not great. Had to counter Oakland’s moves.
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      Price is overrated to me. He is 1-5 in the post season with an almost 5 ERA from what I read. Sorry I know he is yours now so you probably don’t want to hear my hate but the guy is an ass.
      Don’t feel bad Lester is going to the Yankees too and frankly I don’t care because Lester is overrated. His ERA during the regular season is way too low for 25 million a year.
      At least you have hope. We literally have NO pitching. Oh this is going to be interesting.lol
      • Case Says:
        Maybe you’ll buy Scherzer next year. Boston is flush with cash now!
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I doubt it. If we aren’t going to pay Lester I doubt we throw Yankee money at Max. Max is a great pitcher and a better pitcher than Lester IMO but I just doubt it.
        We will need someone because we literally have Clay now.lol and that isn’t good.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I can’t believe he turned down 144 million. Bet the Yankees break the bank.
      • Case Says:
        Everything for the Tigers hinges on our 90 year old owner. He really wants a title and is spending accordingly. Apparently his heirs don’t intend to continue down that path so we need to get a title here very soon.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Damn that old man. The nerve of attempting to die.He better not die. Its nice when your team goes all out. We used to do that.
      • Case Says:
        I just realized you traded 4 starters. Seriously who is pitching for you now? Clay, Joe Kelly and ???
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        The bull pen cop. The guy that sells beer in left field. Pretty much which ever guy we plunk out of the crowd.lol
        Seriously we have Brandon Workman, Ruby Delarossa and Allan Webster plus whatever kid we bring up to be a sacrificial lamb.
      • Case Says:
        That’s crazy. Think you’ll go after Shields if not Scherzer or Lester?
        Do you trust Cherington?
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I don’t like ex Tampa pitchers so god no Shields. All of Tampa is overrated. We see them 19 times a year so but I am not sure how I feel about Ben. He won us a world series and expected the same exact team to do as well so I can’t really blame him for this year, not totally. We will see.
      • Case Says:
        Cespedes was a nice return for Lester though. Kinda surprised the A’s traded him to be honest.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Oakland fans are not happy. I think I will like Cepedes but honestly with NO pitching we are doomed.
