While I was sleeping. Part ????

Aly Raisman is rumored to be on DWTS. TMZ has all the gossip. No word from the Raisman camp. I love Kellie Pickler and Wynonna so I hope both are on the show with Aly.

Beth Tweddle week 8. Backward roll with skates on, impressive:)

There is a team dance with Beth but I don’t support the US President being a moron and shaking hands with someone wanting to blow up our Military so I won’t support Beth dancing to it either.

Rumor has Nastia replacing Elfi on the NBC Broadcasts of gymnastics. I guess we will have more to make fun of in the future:) Please let this awful info be just a rumor. I realize Nastia’s stalker is the source of this rumor but come on, NBC must have an idiot in charge if they bring this ego into their broadcast “family” Nastia is and always has been about Nastia. She loves to talk about herself and this platform gives her more opportunity to do just that.

There are so many former gymnasts that do commentary and have experience doing it like Shannon Miller, Amanda Borden, even Elise Ray does some College meets so explain to me why NBC decided to hire, her? The network is truly out of the loop when it comes to the sport. Most likely they just don’t care.

Episode 5 for Aly

Week 6 for Beth

Being that I try to watch non-US gymnastics broadcasts, Nastia commentating probably won’t make much of a difference. (To me, anyway.)

What would be a trainwreck I’d definitely watch is if Nastia, Moceanu and Dawes all commentate together. If a drinking game was put together for all the times “I” and “me” those three would say we’d all die of alcohol poisoning.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL, That might be fun to watch.

    • Tortoga Says:

I completely agree. It would be a competition of who can find the most opportunities to talk about themselves. I need to take Moceanu out of my newsfeed or delete her. She is constantly posting old routine videos of herself.

  2. Dee Says:

    Just ewww!

  3. Case Says:

I take back every bad thing I ever said about Elfi Schlegel. May she commentate forever if the alternative is Nastia.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

lol, So agreed. I can’t see Nastia keeping this job. It makes no sense.

    • sainabou nyang Says:

I don’t mind Elfi so much but for someone who was a gymnast herself she always comes across as being completely clueless about gymnastics. Perhaps she is. Al Trautwig is completely clueless. I was crack up when he asks Tim Daggett a stupid question that he already knows the answer to and hearing Tim Daggett answer with annoyance in his voice.

Tim Daggett actually has better chemistry with Amanda Borden.

    • Short1 Says:

Agreed. Even though I’m not really a fan of Elfi’s commentary, I would much rather hear her than Nastia!

  4. Catherine Says:

Probably better than Kelly Garrison. I watched the free replay of Oklahoma vs UCLA (fantastic meet) and she was the worst I’ve ever heard, and college gymnastics sets a low commentating standard. Two minutes in, someone takes a huge hop on a FTY and she goes ‘now that’s what I’m talking about, a stuck landing!’ and then she whatevers John Rothlisberger when he corrects her and it just goes downhill from there.

I would like Alicia to commentate. Alicia is on a medical advice committee for USAG though so she’s still around. Nastia? Meh.

    • Short1 Says:

I would also like Alicia to commentate. In a recent Gymnastike interview (earlier this month) she said she was going to be doing some NCAA commentary.

    • exgymgurl Says:

Catherine I agree that john rothlisburger, garrison commentary was unwatchable. Elise Ray and the meets she did for Michigan were better. Shannon being pregnant she may not want to do commentary, but she was so good at the olympics I dont get her being passed over for Nasty Piukin….. either that or we’ll be hearing about her bars gold medal in 08 that should have been till eternity

  5. sainabou nyang Says:

Oh lord if this is true, then why don’t they go a srep further and replace Al “moron” Trautwig with Paul Hamm. I don’t hate Nastia but shes a shitty commentator who always sounds disinterested in anything not pertaining to her.
Her interviewing skills aren’t much better either.

  6. nero Says:

They’re fighting over at gymnastike if Aly was DWTS first choice. I love Aly but it’s not rocket science that the only reason she was chosen was because she’s over 18. I’m baffled that some people can’t seem to grasp this concept.

I know it’s a long shot but I hope she wins. Not only will that piss off 90% of the gymternet but I would love to see the look on Shawn’s face.

    • GymMom Says:

Especially if Aly wins DWTS! Ha ha

    • Gymbee Says:

Yeah, since a minor will need to have a guardian present at all times, Aly is the only option ou of the fierce 5.
Doesn’t seem like Kylas thing at all, Jordyn is training again (and her mom couldn’t just up and leve to LA for months because of the the little sister at home, same with McKayla I guess. I bet Gabbys mom would’ve loved it though.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

My take on it is that if they wanted someone under 18 bad enough they would hire him/her…they hired Shawn Johnson! Although maybe since she had that whole stalker thing flare up they learned their lesson. If Gabby had been smarter on presenting herself and better media trained, I’m sure she could have been asked.

Either way, I don’t think anyone else on the Fierce Five would have taken the slot on DWTS. They’re not “there” yet, whereas I feel like Aly doesn’t really plan on making a full-fledged return to competitive gymnastics.

I imagine this will strike ASac to the core; how “ironic” is that? She really wanted a slot on DWTS after 2008 but that obviously didn’t happen, and now here her “mini me” is getting that desired position.

Aly really “did” have the Olympics that ASac wanted for herself. It’s all kind of awesome.

I’m glad another gymnast will be taking over the ranks on DWTS; I’m sick of Shawn already.

      • Gymbee Says:

Definitely, but there was more legal mumbo jumbo going on. Sorry, just finished reading Shawns book and apparently they got a judge to sign it off, but it was court-ordered that she have a guardian present at all times.

    • GymMom Says:

I think Aly has a good shot at winning DWTS. I might even consider going to a live show in LA. I have had other opportunities to do that when Shawn was on but I decided not to go.

It would be fun to sit in the audience for that show.

  7. JAS4 Says:

I would love it if NBC would hire Shannon to commentate but since USAG would probably be against that then I wouldn’t mind Alicia commentating either

  8. Tortoga Says:

I don’t really like the idea of any more gymnasts doing Dancing with the Stars. It’s a show for people trying to pro-long their last minutes of fame and I think Aly is better than that. I would only watch to see her dance then flip the channnel, same with Shawn. Isn’t there a better show for them?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Probably not, sadly. It’s not like being an Olympic gymnast puts you near the “A” list…

      • Tortoga Says:

True. I really would like to see a gymnast on The Amazing Race. Gymnasts are determined an have an edge above the competition with physical and emotional toughness.

    • GymMom Says:

I agree somewhat about DWTS. I will watch Aly only. One good thing about DWTS is it’s helped some contestants lose weight & get fit. It has also promoted the benefits of ballroom dancing as a good fun way to exercise. I hate the exploitative aspects of it when they have trainwrecks like Kate Gosselin on it for the humor, but I guess they sign on for it..knowing they’re going to be the butt of jokes.

I have enjoyed watching the NFL players like Emmitt Smith, Kurt Warner & a few others. The Disney kids have never done well but they use DWTS to promote their shows.

I like the Amazing Race & wish a gymnast would be on that show. Maybe because there are couples & gymnastics is singular might be a reason why none have appeared?

      • Gymbee Says:

Chelsea Kane from Disney Channel didn’t do too bad though, she placed third.

I’m the same – I only watch the ones that interest me, and nothing else.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Out of all the reality shows, the Amazing race is the only show I would go on. I love that show and have watched every season.

They should do Amazing Race USAG addition where the girls and guys would face off against each other. I can imagine Jordyn double u turning Gabby lol.

    • Biyatch Says:

As far as has beens, on the entertainment side I totally agree its full of Z-listers. The show has been able to pull respectable athletes however, Kerri Walsh for one. But also Jacoby Jones who just won a super bowl ring is on this season.

I still have hope that Aly is following the ASac plan by taking the year after the games off and then will get back into training full throttle for 2014. With individual worlds this year there is really no rush to get back into the gym. Say what you will about Alicia but out of all the “comebacks” hers was really the most impressive.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I totally agree about ASac’s comeback but can’t help thinking Aly saw that and is likely thinking “why bother, when Marta screws you over on a turn of the dime.”

I think Aly accomplished a lot – probably more than what anyone was expecting of her. She’s got that iron will of a great competitor that Marta likes, which is in her favor since even Marta knows that is hard to come by. I just have this feeling though that we won’t be seeing her attempt a comeback.

      • Tortoga Says:

ASac had a very impressive comeback but Aly had a very successful Olympics. I don’t know if I would chance giving it another four years and end up not coming out on top. Possibly just missing out on Rio. Another year or two for worlds? Sure, but Rio at age 22 with the recumbent US Olympians track record doesn’t look promising. And I’m not trying to sound rude but I really think Kyla if anyone from 2012 has a good shot. Lord Please let her stay healthy!!

  9. sanitynmotion Says:

Hiring Nastia to be a commentator would be absurd. Girl is BORING to listen to – she really lacks charisma, and that’s not even considering her inflated ego.

Shannon would obviously be the better choice but I think Yahoo! owns her or something. What I really like about Shannon is that she’s insightful, speaks when it’s appropriate, and explains the non-obvious well. She also doesn’t repeat the same damn phrases over and over and she’s unbiased. She won’t bash anyone either, which is nice because it’s like Elfie/Tim don’t even consider what they say and think about how this is an athlete they are talking about that spends countless hours training in a gym.

Nastia has been handed everything else though so I guess there’s no difference handing her over the commentating job.

I’d really like it to be ASac too because she’s actually got personality, and man I kind of would love to see what she says (or doesn’t say) when the camera does a Marta close-up. LOL.

    • terrigymfan Says:

Besides the annoying personality, Nastia has a terrible voice for announcing – very high and doesn’t project at all. ASac has a nice voice that projects, plus she has that sass about her that would make her very interesting. I am so sick of Elfie and Tim that almost anybody but Nastia would be better. Don’t love Al but he’s at least tolerable IMO.

Shannon would be great but just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. She also has a nice voice for announcing, which is pretty amazing since she had such a high squeaky voice back in 92.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know, that too! It’s like a Kerri Strug voice almost (tee hee).

Shannon’s voice is still pretty high but not annoyingly so. She’s clear and concise. A perfect commentator actually.

Tim Daggett’s voice to me is like nails on a chalkboard.

      • icemeltsfast Says:

Al is tolerable? lol he is probably my least favorite of the trio because it irks me at bit that he is getting paid to know absolutely nothing and ask dumb questions. Tim already explains really obvious things (for the 4year fan audience, which makes sense) like d-score, e-score, whatever. But Al and his idiocy can go to hell. lol and he wasn’t even a gymnast, which is also fine if you know can comment on the sport!

I don’t love Asac– both her gymnastics and the personality– but I could see her as a decent commentator. I agree with the rest of the world– Shannon is really the best.

Does anybody know what happened to Bart Conner and Kathy Johnson. They weren’t bad either. Was this just a matter of nbc taking over gymnastics coverage?

      • terrigymfan Says:

I guess I find Al tolerable because while he is a clueless oaf he doesn’t seem as mean-spirited as Tim and Elfie. Those two, especially Elfie, can be really nasty especially when talking about some of the less talented gymnasts. It cracks me up because I don’t think Elfie was any great shakes of a gymnast herself but she is so critical of gymnasts who aren’t stars.

I’m pretty sure Bart Conner and Kathy Johnson stopped doing gymnastics when NBC started broadcasting the events rather than NBC. I can’t remember much about Bart but I liked Kathy.

I also liked Dick Enberg who used to do the NBC broadcasts. He knew nothing about gymnastics but he had heart and genuinely liked the girls (in a nice grandfatherly way not a perverted way, LOL). Agree that Al is just a bump on a log.

Enberg used to do the broadcasts with Mary Lou Retton. Sbe was annoying as hell IMO.

Most of the blog sites are sure Aly is part of DWTS Season 16 coming up. I can’t wait! Shawn will try to insert herself into that scenario by showing up at live shows….I’m sure of it! In my opinion, Aly will probably be paired with Mark Ballas…like Shawn was when she was younger. Aly will do great…bugging the hell out of Shawn! Shawn will refer to Aly as “her girl” etc., but when Aly gets to the finals, Shawn will go off the deep end and stop showing up at DWTS. I wish Aly would get paired with Derek Hough but he’s already said he’s not coming back to DWTS. Also, pro Maks announced he’s not coming back(no loss) and apparently pro Chelsie Hightower has been fired from DWTS. Watch for Shawn to be photo bombing Aly’s time on DWTS. Ha ha ha Thank God Gabby isn’t on DWTS!

On a funny note, Gabby tweeted thanks to designer Donna Karan for the dress she wore to an Oscar party last night but she spelled her name “Karen” instead of Karan…IDIOT! I see today she corrected the spelling…I’m sure her agent or someone who has a brain corrected it. How insulting to misspell a designer’s name who let you borrow a dress to get their name out there & the person wearing the dress misspells that very well known(but not that popular) designer’s name? I noticed that different less popular and lesser known designers have dressed Gabby. No decent designer who dresses big names would bother with Gabby! I think Gabby didn’t go back to Iowa to the gym because she thought she would get DWTS or some other opportunity, which she never will! She is relegated to appearing with a monkey who makes Oscar picks by dropping plastic discs down a slot like a Price Is Right game. Gabby had the job of passing the discs to the female monkey dressed in custom couture in a segment on the Pre Pre show on the E Channel yesterday. Funny the monkey was wearing a custom gown but not Gabby. Ha ha ha

  11. GymMom Says:

The segment on the E Channel with Gabby & Crystal the monkey was NOT racist! Gabby agreed to do it!

  12. lol Says:

Aly won floor at the Olympics. It makes perfect sense she would be chosen for a dance competition .

  13. GymAnon Says:

I would much rather it be ASac on DWTS and commentating 😛 I do like Aly and understand why they chose her as opposed to, say, McKayla (high-profile for a gymnast, can actually dance, has personality for days, buuut is a minor). Still, I have zero desire to watch.

I’d love to see a commentary team of Shannon Miller and ASac. Both have good voices, and Shannon’s warmth plus ASac’s humor would be a treat.

Speaking of Alicia, I put together that timeline of her and Nastia’s friendship issues a while ago, kept forgetting to post it. Here it is. I can edit it if I got things wrong, so please, tear it apart!

    • GymMom Says:

I also don’t think McKayla is fully recovered from that injury she suffered on the tour.

      • Catherine Says:

She said a few weeks back that she is, and she’s training. She did give the impression in that interview that it was a bit sore but stressed that its fully healed. Aly would be more interesting on dwts though since she is no natural dancer than McKayla. I think age is a huge factor too. Aly is very genuine and likeable, she should be able to draw in more fans.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I still think DWTS is lame overall. Even if McKayla was recovered I don’t think she’d do it. It’s really a show for C-listers trying to get one last chance in the spotlight again.

That timeline is interesting. Nastia and ASac were at one point really good friends it seemed like. Then again, it justifies the sentiment that these girls are all really just “fake” friends when it’s beneficial to them. Now at this point when ASac and Nastia are no longer really in that “gym” circle and they’ve started their “real” lives there’s no point of continuing to be fake w/each other regarding their relationship. It doesn’t appear anyone in the 2008 team are really “friends” outside of gymnastics. Bridget and ASac were also “bosom buddies” at one point and now…? Same with ASac and Sam Peszek.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Let me make sure I understand this timeline. Nastia and ASac are engaging in the typical superficial “friendship” banter right until Nastia announces her comeback attempt in the fall of 2011, which coincidentally is at the very moment ASac is returning from Tokyo after getting injured and obviously suffering a huge setback on her own comeback attempt. Suddenly all Twitter communication between the two stop, and does not start up again until the Kellogg Tour in the fall of 2012. The implication being that ASac saw Nastia’s comeback as taking advantage of ASac’s misfortune – sort of like kicking her when she was down – and ASac refused to talk to her. Sounds like a fair inference to me but I just want to make sure I have that straight.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Sanity that a lot of this friendly Twitter chit chat is a bunch of BS anyway. Don’t we all know people like that – you know the type who make these syrupy, excessively sweet comments to you that are totally insincere – but who you also know could never be counted on if you really needed something? And most of the time those sweet comments are made when something negative has happened to you. They are not really trying to make you feel better but instead just trying to remind you that the negative thing happened to you and not them. Like when Nastia tells ASac, “Fly safe my love & keep your chin up! Positive thoughts only! I’ll see you soon 🙂 Love you!” Bleh.

      • GymAnon Says:

I get the feeling that while some of the “we’re all best friends!” talk is fake, most of the distance between the ’08 team is probably due to growing up and apart. Which is pretty normal for teenagers who are no longer forced together by circumstances/sport/etc. Nastia seems like a special case, though.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Haha, that and the fact they took home silver when they could have gotten gold had they lived up to their potential. But even then, the Chinese were going to get it anyways, cheating or no cheating.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

BTW Terri interesting assessment of Nastia kicking ASac while she was down. I’m betting too that ASac was her roomie and Nastia never told her anything about the “comeback” attempt.

Nastia coming back basically meant ASac would be put on the sidelines; especially for beam. No way could that 2012 team have room for two 2008 vets.

STILL for the life of me do not understand how ASac allowed Marta to talk her out of doing her upgraded vault when that would have been the ONLY thing getting her within sniffing distance of making that team.

This is why I request that tell-all book.

      • GymAnon Says:

Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll get that tell-all anytime soon, since ASac’s still working with USAG on that medical task force thing. But I would sell my soul to read it. Maybe someday when ASac’s 70 and doesn’t give a crap about anything anymore.

      • Gymbee Says:

ASac went on holiday with Bridget in Florida after the Olympics, didnt she?

Anyway, I guess it’s the same with gymnasts as it is with school/college friends. I had friends in college that I don’t see anymore (just the brief hello and what’s up on facebook now and then).
Not strange that they’re not joined at the hip when they don’t really frequent the same circles anymore.

      • Gymbee Says:

        Btw, interesting timeline!!

I don’t even care if ASac writes it. Maybe if her mom wrote it. The mom seemed pretty pissed off after trials as well.

      • Short1 Says:

@GymAnon I agree that growing up and growing apart (with respect to the ’08 team) was probably part of it too. I also think that, sometimes people might not have much in common outside of what ever it is that has forced them together, so there might not be a reason to be friends/hang out outside of that.

@terrigymfan The whole excessively sweet, yet completely insincere comments pretty much described one of my college roommates to a T(fortunately, I only roomed with her for one semester)! I swear it almost seems like people like that dish out those kind of comments because they’re almost so giddy about the other person’s misfortune that they can hardly contain it (I’m NOT saying that was the case with Nastia’s tweets…but it was certainly true of my one roommate).

    • Short1 Says:

@GymAnon Interesting timeline. At the end, where you have them un-following each other (for a second time), I’m not sure when Nastia un-followed Alicia, but Alicia un-followed Nastia on Nov. 16th (I only know this because I posted a comment on Tumblr that night about how those who usually provided a play-by-play of what happened on Twitter hadn’t said anything, and I was surprised).

  14. Short1 Says:

@Gymbee That’s pretty much what happened with most of my college friends…especially since we all ended up going to different grad schools, and those who didn’t went back to their hometowns/home states to look for employment. I still take to them on Facebook, but I’ve seen a couple of them since graduation.
