We must have different trending data. On my end of the world it’s:

    01 USC coach fired
    02 Gaga wears gun bra
    03 12-year-old guilty of murder
    04 Fish grabs man’s arm
    05 Buried lake reached
    06 Lohan fires attorney
    07 Shannon Miller pregnant
    08 QB finishes rehab
    09 Jimmy Hoffa tip
    10 Samsung Galaxy S3

I don’t get the buried lake reached or much of the other ones but whatevs. Shannon’s still top ten though!!! Right after crazy bitchface Lohan!

It changes by the minute. If you click on any of those names at yahoo and look to the left you will see a different list.

    Lol, mine are

    01 Jodie Foster
    02 Dublin shooting
    03 Weather forecast
    04 PPI claims
    05 Belfast clashes
    06 All inclusive ho..
    07 Golden Globes
    08 O’Byrne Cup
    09 Robin Van Persie
    10 eBooks

Damnit, Shannon would never be in mine. I’m more interested in the man grabbed by a fish and baby shower brawl, I bet that’s hysterical. But congratulations to Shannon, and yes I hope she has a girl too- not just for possible maybe gymnastics purposes, but also because this baby is a miracle due to her treatment and she already has a boy so it’d be nice for her to get the ‘full set’. If that’s what she wants obviously.

The world has seriously gone to hell if this is whats trending. Except of course Shannons pregnancy.

  4. JAS4 Says:

I am always glad to see Shannon getting attention! Lol

  5. Guest Says:

Shannon Miller got pregnant again after overcoming the ovarian cancer 2 years ago, so it becomes news worthy.

  6. Jen Smith Says:

I’ve never cared for Shannon Miller. She was a great technical gymnast, but no spark or charisma for me. The judges, especially European loved her but she trained in Russia so that’s to be expected. I liked Steve Nunno and miss him on the national scene and I love Peggy Liddick. I wish she’d come back to the states and help these poor girls out. If I could say one thing to Shannon Miller, it would be, “Put your medals away, let them collect dust, stop comparing your beam win to Shawn’s beam win in 2008 so you can stay relevant, put your medals away, we know what you did already!” I guess that’s more than one thing but that’s what I’d say.

    • terrigymfan Says:

Shannon trained in Russia? I hadn’t heard that before.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That’s because she spent two weeks at a camp as a child. She didn’t really train there she just spent time there and I always felt that people use it too much when giving credit to Shannon for her pedigree. IMO

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I hadn’t heard that either. And if she was so loved by Russia/Europe I doubt they would have overscored Gutsu the way they did in the ’92 AA and not have given Shannon her highly deserved 10.0 on that vault.

I don’t find Shannon a big ego-stick either – but maybe that’s because compared to Nastia, Dominique M, and Dominique D (who has no individual gold medals that are really note-worthy), Shannon comes off like she’s made of humble pie.

      • terrigymfan Says:

I just read that she attended a summer training camp in Russia in 1986. Apparently Steve Nunno was over there at the time and that is when he first saw her. She would have barely turned nine. I cannot imagine any judges loving her and considering she had Russian “form” because of that.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Shannon knows she was good because every gymnast that is feels that way but I have never gotten the impression Shannon was an ego maniac.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Considering Shannon won the gold medal on beam in 1996, I don’t think it is egotistical for her to compare her performance on that event to Shawn’s gold medal performance on beam in 2008, especially since Shannon is a commentator and that is her job. What is egotistical is when Dawes, whose only individual Olympic medal in anything was a bronze on floor in 1996, is always comparing her vaulting ability to McKayla Maroney’s — as though they were about the same.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Didn’t I read that Dawes said she did an Amanar in the pit back in the day? That clearly equals her to Mckayla.lol

Did you ever see the interview with Gabby where Dawes kept interrupting with, So I was your idol growing up. I never saw it but they talked about it online.

      • terrigymfan Says:

This must be the interview you are talking about. A mutual brag about myself fest.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I refuse to listen top that interview.lol so I don’t know but I am removing the link to that youtube video because looking at them makes me sick. So don’t take offense.lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

In the first 2 minutes of this interview Dawes talks about herself TWICE. What’s the point of her interviewing other people? She literally starts a question talking about herself, how SHE would think/react, then she asks the interviewee.

She should just start her own reality show since she’s obviously so obsessed with herself.

Okay, 3 times now within 3 minutes. Wow. Why am I listening to this. My ears are literally bleeding.

I hate gymnasts with “spark” spark is just an excuse for phony smiles and bad form. Spark is Tara Lipinski. Spark is the excuse people use to prop up big skills with no technique. Oh boy do I hate spark.

I would rather watch a pretty technical gymnast over spark any day. I also don’t think Shannon didn’t have spark. She was very impressive as a junior to me, probably because she was so tiny but because she was a happy child when she did well. OMG that is spark:)

Seriously though, I will never understand why people use spark as an excuse. I blame Scott Hamilton, “spark” is the word he used to describe Terror Lipinski when she got 5.9 for presentation at the 98 Olympics which was a F****** joke.

I would rather watch Komova’s sheep jump a million times in a row then anything Gabby Douglas ever put on the gymnastics floor.

I should write a blog about “spark” but it would look like what I wrote above.

      • terrigymfan Says:

Shannon was shy and not a good interview, but how many gymnasts were in that era? Gutsu and Zmeskal were hardly an interviewer’s dream. Frankly I don’t remember Dawes being all that outgoing in 1992. Amanda Borden in 1996 had charisma and personality, but that didn’t make her a great gymnast.

Mary Lou’s smile and “spark” always seemed phony to me. Almost made me nauseous really. Shannon was very stoic and determined and didn’t smile a lot before her routines, but she always had that nice genuine smile when she hit, which was often and all the charisma I needed to see.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t care about spark or charsima. I care about clean gymnastics. I always hated the peppy gymnasts and now a days every gymnast waves to the camera. That is so annoying

      • sanitynmotion Says:

omg omg omg…thank you. Every time I hear “spark” I think of effing Terror and just want to throw up.

If spark meant fake smiley faces and posing, then those people should just watch Miss America pageants.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I hate the word. HATE it

      • sanitynmotion Says:

It totally reminds me of the “flare” Office Space fiasco. I don’t know why. It just does.

Shannon Miller just exemplifies everything that has gone wrong in the sport, especially on US soil. Take this floor routine:

No – it’s not perfect. There’s a shuffle out of a split jump and maybe one or two low-ish landings on the tumbling passes. But everything else is nearly damn perfect and beautiful to watch. The musicality is something you just don’t see anymore. The dance elements, perfectly timed, and the movement overall – just elegant and clean. I don’t watch this floor routine, bored between the tumbling passes and just waiting for the “next” one – the way I would watch an Aly Raisman floor routine (sorry Aly, but it’s true). You don’t see those awkward pauses and set-ups for the turns. I enjoy each and every second of it. I am bummed when it is over. Nowadays floor is mainly this show-casey stupid dance fluff stuff smushed in between four tumbing runs. Snore. I’ll give credit when credit is due – and this, THIS, is what a floor routine should be. Period. End of story.

(I am going to say here though that I thought Jordyn Weiber’s floor was very good – the dance suited her style and also was very musical; not as classy/elegant as Shannon but suited her gymnastics style and was “watchable” from beginning to end).

The other thing I would like to add is that figure skating is very similar these days as well: the routines are basically “fluff” pieces in between jumps. The pattern is skate…jump….skate…jump….skate…maybe a turn…jump. Bore. Terror Lipinski this is you. I still think if Terror had skated first and Kwan skated last, that gold medal would NOT be in Terror’s hands right now. Her stupid reaction to her scores in Nagano haunts me to this day.

    • icemeltsfast Says:

Agreed on all accounts. Including the figure skating addendum– Lipinski and Hughes bored me to no end. Well, at least the rightful winner was inducted into the Hall of Fame. (:

Ps: Mac, Anna Li, Sabrina Vega, and Sarah Finnegan all have more than “watchable” floors. I especially love the former two. None are Shannon level, but you know, the cop, emphasizes difficulty over artistry etc etc…

love how she dances and tumbles right into the corner before her 3rd pass…no one does that any more…every beat of the music accounted for…so much stretch and expression with her hands-gorgeous!
