Top ten most successful gymnasts of all time

The girl that makes these is a complete biatch but I thought this list was interesting plus there is NOTHING else to talk about.

It does not decipher between AA Gold medals and event finals so it is somewhat misleading.

I just want to tell you how happy I am that I know a lot about things no one else does. This comes in handy when you have to shut people up that clearly have no memory, at least not compared to me:)

I was just waiting for Nastia to be on there lol

  2. DL Says:

LOL at the people in the YouTube comments arguing that Retton and Liukin are missing from the list, which is based on medal count.

Mostepanovafan? I love her, her videos have taught me a lot so I don’t care what she’s like. All of those types of videos are plagued by the Nadia obsessives, or the ones who can’t understand why Khorkina is not in the soviets one. Sigh.

I wish US gymnasts would shoot for medal counts like these! Although on the one hand, the sport has become more demanding than it was when many of the ladies on this list racked up their medals, and gymnasts bodies simply don’t last due to the greater physical demands of the sport – on the other hand, Svetlana Khorkina was number 2, and she is a fairly recent gymnast. I really wish US gymnasts wouldn’t be “one and done” as far as Olympics go. So many of them retire too soon. Say what you will about her personality, but I think Nastia could have been on this list (not very high on it, but still) if she kept training instead of trying to be famous. While her comeback attempt was kind of a disaster, what it really demonstrated to me was wasted potential. I guess the endorsement money seems to outweigh the glory from going to another worlds. Hmmm.

Still love Shannon Miller though – her gymnastics was just so beautiful (especially compared to gymnasts today who can’t point their toes and who flop around on the floor kind of to the music but not really…).

Can you please take another username:-)

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Nastia was injured in 06 but Miller also did not compete at the worlds in 92 or 96 (individual) and was injured in 95 and 96 for the Olympics. She could have 6 more world/olympic medals. In 92 at the full Olympics she won a medal on every event but vault. If she had competed in 92 she would have beaten Milo on bars and maybe won a floor or beam medal. IMO She could have had her second vault if not for the screw in the arm. She had so much height she easily could have added a half twist for a ten start value.

In 96 she could have won a beam medal at worlds or a bar medal considering who won medals at that event and maybe a floor medal. In 95 she could have if healthy won an AA medal and IMO she still should have the bronze on beam in 95. She made every event finals at worlds in 95.

      • H Says:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that Nastia should have been on the list over Shannon because of her wasted potential. Shannon is a legend in my opinion, and I still drool over her gymnastics. I meant more to argue that, for people who think Nastia should have been on the list – maybe she would have if she kept competing after 08, but she chose not to because she wanted to be famous or whatever. I can’t see any of the fierce 5 having careers like Shannon’s, either.

      • H Says:

Whoe else do you see on the list with Shannon?

  5. exgymgurl Says:

Shannon did have beautiful toe point and stellar execution. For her time she was doing high difficulty as well. I wonder if Ponor had competed in 2008 if that would have made a difference for the Romanians…. potentially the silver team medal with USA relegated to bronze. Judges love her. She could have been up there in medal counts as well with an additional olympics. Mustafina is the first Russian gymnast to win a gold since Khorkina did…. I hope she makes it two more olympics and keeps packing in the hardware. She seems very determined and that she truly enjoys gymnastics for representing Russia.

Funny that Dawes was in three olympics like Khorkina and has no where near the hardware. And Khorkina withdrew from vault final for Zamo….

We will never see another American gymnast do what Shannon did. The Karolyi system will never allow it.

BTW Shawns net worth is reportedly around 8 milion, ASac between 5-6 million and Nastias is around 2 million. Jordyn has in fact banked deals that are about the equivalent of Gabbys post olympic checks. So does it pay to be the pre olympic it girl? Absolutely.. would Jordyn have made a lot more $$ post olympics ? Maybe but one thing Ive noticed is that all of the girls are known collectively as the fierce 5 the only real breakout is McKayla. In a few years everyone will think McKayla won All Around because theyve heard of her. Like with Shawn. Everyones forgotten Nastia outside of gymnastics.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Nunno killed Shannon Miller’s chance of more difficulty when he worked her non stop in 93 and 94 and 95 until she got injured. He had her competing at every meet. Who knows what she could have been capable of in 1996 if she had been healthy in 95 leading up to 96.

I don’t believe those numbers about wealth for the gymnasts. There is no way Sac is worth 5 million. Besides her impact socks and the Covergirl thing she has no endorsements.

I know there was a list for what the athletes make but I just don’t believe the numbers for anyone but maybe Shawn and those seem high

      • macstabby Says:

Don’t forget her deodorant endorsement! *snort*

And I don’t know how Mostepanova is a big ol’ B, but I follow her on youtube because I think she’s got some great videos.

Exgymgurl, where did you find those numbers? I think those amounts are interesting. I wonder if Gabby’ll peter-out soon, a la Nastia, due to her stank attitude.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

GTT – I’m still not sure of Shannon’s coaching (Peggy Lidick vs. Nunno). Were both involved, but Nunno got more credit for it because he was the dude on camera (always screaming and waving his hands about)? I didn’t know until way later Peggy Lidick (sorry if I misspelled) was Shannon’s coach. I thought it was just Nunno. I was young though so I wasn’t really paying attention to the coaches, only the athletes.

If Peggy was also coaching Shannon I would wonder why she couldn’t step up and tell Nunno to stop over-working her. Or maybe Nunno was just a puppet for USAG and USAG really just wanted Shannon to tire out/have to quit because she was making the Karyolis look bad.

BTW I think with the “disneyland” (read ABC) photos McKayla took over the weekend with Kyla while everyone else was at the Craptacular, either McKayla already has a preliminary DWTS deal or its close. And it looks like Kyla is growing, which may be the end of her elite career….

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kyla will grow. He dad is really tall but I still think she will be fine.

When is the next Dancing with the stars? I thought I read May.

I can’t believe they still do those craptaculers.lol

      • JAS4 Says:

I think Kyla will just have to adjust her gymnastics for her height. Mustafina was already 5’4″ at the Olympics and looks to have grown some and Izbasa is 5’6″ so it’s still possible to be tall and do elite gymnastics

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Kyla will grow but if she’s still training full time she’ll be able to adjust way more easily than if she were to take a break, grow, and get back to it (warning for you, Maroney). The Russians/Romanians have such great longevity for the most part because they don’t take those long breaks to become a celebrity.

Except Ponor took a break and came back – I am still in awe of her comeback to be honest. What she did was amazing; almost more so than ASac’s comeback, only because she got her full difficulty back on beam, floor, and vault (even though it was “only” a DTY).

    • katecoursey Says:

I hope not! I really want to see a Maroney vault someday :). I am holding out hope, because she keeps saying in interviews that she wants to get back to training as soon as possible.

Kyla does already look taller, and like gymtruthteller says her dad is way tall. I do like her gymnastics (although she is in desperate need of a different floor routine) so I hope she’ll adjust.

  7. terrigymfan Says:

I don’t believe for two seconds these girls have net worths anywhere near these numbers. They are at best exagerrated estimates (without any real knowledge) of what theses girls might have made through endorsements, appearance fees, etc. without subtracting out all the expenses, which includes agent’s fees, accountant fees, lawyer’s fees, and the biggest of all taxes.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree.I just can’t see 5 plus million accept maybe Shawn because I am sure Coke and the shoe company are huge. Not that huge however since I know an NBA player that made only a million a year with addisda’s and he was pretty big in Boston and a 3 time all star for the league.

      • icemeltsfast Says:

Doesn’t Shawn still have Nike (or is that what you meant by the shoe company)? I still remember her Nike ad with her showing off her abs (around the 08 Olympics) + the recent fuel band craze. AND she was leading some group exercises in London…

        Nike pays, right?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Nike pays but it depends on the star factor of the athlete. I’m sure there are “scales.” I thought I had read somewhere Shawn was worth 5 million, which makes more sense to me. ASac can’t be worth that much – most people don’t even know who she is, even during her comeback.

      • Guest Says:

Shawn said she want to keep long-term relationship with Nike. Maybe she is making a transition of herself to a type of celebrity promoting women health and fitness.

There is also a photoshot with Derek in OK Magazine.

alicia has covergirl, underarmour ( which is huge) proctor and gamble, plus those espn pics made her a killing. I actually believe asac has more than Nastia

    • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

Alicia was also recently made an endorser of Tumblrtrak (?) along with Jordyn, and this was after being left off the team. I also recall Alicia having a bunch of gigs for bleacherreport, and wasn’t she a part of that Gatorade ad with a whole slew of other athletes? Oh and I almost forgot about Visa! So yeah I definitely see Alicia making more than Nastia.

      • exgymgurl Says:

Telling when the girl that falls off the beam and gets fourth in the vault makes more $$ than the all around champion. She should have a better agent, a much better agent.

      • Guest Says:

It may be because ASac is Boston native (as Aly). Boston people love their local sports figures. Perhaps she can get better chances of endorsement than athletes from other places.

      • hurms22 Says:

That was Chellsie in the Gatorade ad.

  9. icemeltsfast Says:

Is it bad that I’m more curious to know as to why you think she’s a “complete biatch?” Any chance you’re willing to share, GTT? (:

  10. Case Says:

In other news, Sam Peszek tore her Achilles today. That will be a loss for UCLA.
