April Camp. No Gabby. Camp starts 4-2-24 #Today

Pa rim and Jesolo. CRAZY. Trinity was a mess and finished bottom 2 AA and got an international assignmemt? ONLY USAG.lol

Camp Results. Really low scores but the usual over Woga Hezley beam score. So much for the year of Finnel. (Click on the picture to see it better) I like Evelyn Lowe usually so nice to see she did well, but as much asI like Dulcy for parts of her routines, her form is way too bad to get these scores. Trinity sucked, Reese, who people had as a wild card has zero shot at this point. These are ugly scores. Pease is always overscored but she beat the seniors by a point. I get these are lower level gymnasts but the US is going to be in trouble when the current group retires. only one start value (Pease, bars) is semi competitive. A few 5.8/5.9 bars and beam, but that is 4th AA type of thing, (and look what those start values did for leanne last year. World judges killed her) Tiana scores better outside the US and I saw her floor, awful landings.

9.30 AM for two events and later 2 more. (Link below) #Paywall

Camp will air on Flip (Behind a paywall) Gabby is a no-show (So much for doing AA) Now what? (Thanks Hart of Dixie)

SportsCenter did a piece on Leanne Wong (Why do I always want to write, Leanne Rimes?) Here is the link to the video. This is good for her chances because you know USAG peeps love attention. Being Leanne must be exhausting. School, gym, a business, College life. I work and need 2 days to recover 🙂

I was sent this by Anon. I guess Kelli Hill is now a Shannon Miller fan (lol)

  1. Lucia Says:

I bet Kelli Hill is really happy that Shannon always beat her gymnast now .

The Gymternet is speculating that Gabby’s petition was turned down. I hope this means she isn’t getting the yellow brick road treatment to the Olympics.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It makes me laugh how many people are like, “Fuck rules. Let Gabby compete”

      • tatulover2120 Says:

those are the lovely 4 year fans. They know nothing about how a team is made and only want well known names on the team. They think an athletes notoriety is valid enough to just have them get what they want.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The same people wanted Morgan Hurd at Trials too. If we could just get rid of Gabby I would be happy with any Olympic team. I have even cooled off on Leanne. Though I would prefer Jade go away since she gets so much speciali treatment.

      • tatulover2120 Says:

to be fair, Morgan was world champ in 2017 which is in the cycle of a new Olympic year (like cycle of trying for an Olympic team). I guess there’s a little bit of “the world champ should have a shot at trials” where as gabby hasn’t competed for years prior. She hasn’t been the Olympic champ for 8 years/ 2 olympic years.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Morgan was also injured and back in that time I said I understood the reasoning for both taking her and not taking her , especially when Riley played injured and still got to go while Morgan competed with an actual resume ( even if by default . Ragan’s injury ) and had to stay home . Gabby has no right to be given a petition to anything because like you said , it’s been 8 years . Imagine if she not competed nationals and trials and makes the team whole everyone else did it the right way .

      • tatulover2120 Says:

We’d have a similar situation to the 2012 Nastia situation at trials.

      • HartofDixie Says:

I’ve been thinking. I wonder if Gabby and the Liukins expected her to be allowed to go based on her reputation. I don’t think these are new rules. Wonder if they would allow her to go if she could provide proof of having Covid. Either way I don’t think she is ready to contend for an international assignment when has yet to compete at a classics or club competition. She should just go to American Classic and get herself qualified to US Classic/Nationals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Valeri very much thinks he doesn’t have to follow rules. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out she thought she would be allowed.

  2. HartofDixie Says:

I’m wondering why Suni isn’t there as she’s an Olympic medalist. Unless she decided to skip if they are not planning to send anyone to Doha.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Sounds to me like she is being smart. She knows if she shows up to Classics, Nationals and Trials and hits bars and beam she will be on this team. Going to Jesolo or Pan Ams makes zero sense for her. Looking back on the most part Trials decides the team.

      • HartofDixie Says:

True but with her kidney issues I think this is it for her which is why I think she was pushing to go to a World Cup to get her skill named.

Rather see her in Paris than Doha.

  3. HartofDixie Says:

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I hate these rules. You don’t have to earn the right to compete? Why have rules? Other gymnasts had to qualify to Classics.

Gabby could do vault and beam and make the two event score but I don’t know the rules on competing at Nationals on only those events if you go that route.

  4. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if this is kind of like Shawn’s 2012 comeback. (After she knew she was gonna get the not a Marta Favorite treatment). Shawn’s comeback actually was looking decent at first but after she was shoved aside probably because a certain Marta favorite was making a comeback. Then afterwards it was oh she’ll be at the next camp…..then the next…..and so on until right before classics or nationals she was like yeah my knee is too hurt so I’m retiring.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Shawn won beam at camp that year and finished 3rd on another event (I forget which one, I think it was bars) and they still didn’t put her on the World team. That was Marta saving room for Nastia. IMO, that is also why they didn’t use Anna Li in team finals at worlds in 2011. Nastia had announced her comeback and there was no way Marta was getting stuck with Anna Li if she hit bars at Worlds. Fair? No, but if Anna Li had hit bars at Trials and Nationals and they still took Nastia there would have been an uproar.

      • JAS4 Says:

Wasn’t Nastia training on bars while at world selection camp? And Wasn’t she also on the selection committee and then announced her official comeback at Worlds? I agree that Shawn saw the writing on the wall. Shawn was also capable of good bar scores and had upgrades that put her at Gabbys level if I remember correctly. And Marta still made sure to keep her off that team. After pan ams Shawn just kind of disappeared and was supposedly rehabbing her knee and training but I agree I think it was more for the sponsors. I wonder if Gabby is has any current sponsors……

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I kind of remember this being true (Nastia training and being on some selection committee) but I don’t remember details.

    • tatulover2120 Says:

didn’t Shawn have recovery problems with her knee? I think I remember she re-tore everything that was injured in her skii accident and this caused a lot of set back. Don’t quote me, I’m going off memory.

      • HartofDixie Says:

From what I remember she probably should have been named to the Worlds team rather than be the non travelling alternate/on Pan Ams team. Marta must have known Nastia was going to try to comeback and wanted to make room for her hence Anna Li staying alternate when ASac got injured.

I think she she just kept up appearances in 2012 to keep her sponsors before retiring. Her injured knee seemed fine when she did Dancing with the Stars later that year.

      • tatulover2120 Says:

That’s because Shawn’s injury ‘healed up’ to make mega bucks on DWTS after she had to return all her sponsors belongings when she retired. Sorry, she will always seem very greedy to me.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gymnastics ready vs DWTS ready are too different things.

      • tatulover2120 Says:

Very true I’ll give you that. I still think my point is slightly valid.

  5. HartofDixie Says:

    https://olympics.com/en/news/konnor-mcclain-us-classic-yamaguchi-sara-injury-gymnastics

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She will have to ask for a petition and she seems to assume it will be approved . It most likely will but just assuming she will get the free pass is interesting

      • tatulover2120 Says:

all these last minute people popping up going “I’m training for the Olympics” is getting SOOO annoying. Mykayla Skinner started this (although she didn’t announce it last minute). I know Konner made it clear before a while ago she wanted to train for the Olympic team but…like dude it’s APRIL….gabby, Suni, Trinity…GUYS ITS APRIL…trials are 2.5 months away WHY ARE YA’LL DRAGGING YOUR FEET?!?

  6. Lucia Says:

Gymcastic is advertising a petition to allow Gabby to be at this camp. I refuse to link it because I don’t want to help her out but I don’t understand how anyone believes this is ok?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Of course they are. Yea, this blog won’t be allowing that link here 🙂

      • HartofDixie Says:

I just saw the petition these fans are crazy! I’m sure there are other gymnasts who didn’t meet the criteria who have actually competed this quad.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It only has 267 signatures so far. That says a lot about why she is coming out of retirement. Her fame is over outside the gymternet.

    • tatulover2120 Says:

they’re pathetic tbh. Like they’re only good for learning things cause I will give them that they can explain things in a much easier digestible way so I can keep up…that being said I cannot stand their politics and the derailing of conversation they get into. They cannot criticize anyone.

  7. Lucia Says:

Why would they put this online? She would have fallen OOB if she didn’t have coaches spotting her.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Speculation of course, but if she was ready to compete floor, they would have had a better version of this pass to put online.

If this is the best she has 2 months before trials, she may be out of time. We all know I am not rooting for her, that’s for sure, but I don’t trust the USAG judges to score her fairly. They will probably give her a 14.600 with this mistake.

      • tatulover2120 Says:

do you think if she does not make the team, she will continue with gymnastics or retire?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She only seems to care about the Olympics so hopefully she just goes away . I feel like she came back too early and from what I heard . She came into the gym when she felt like it . AKA implied , not consistently .?

    • HartofDixie Says:

So she put this out the day camp started to get attention yet chose a clip that she need several spotters.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is a great point I had not thought of . Looking to steal attention while camping going on .

  8. HartofDixie Says:

  9. Lucia Says:

Based on who has decided to compete at this camp for international assignments, the USA will be taking it’s C team to Jesolo.

Jordan Chiles was on the original list but it was a mistake. Her mother piped into the comments saying she would be preparing for Classics.

Trinity threw a Yurchenko full. Hezley fell off bars and will still be named to the team (Just watch) Maybe I should call this the D level team.

    • HartofDixie Says:

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I hope her lawyer was paid well, I can’t believe she got away with stealing a million dollars from someone. Glad she has time now to worry about Jordan’s gymnastics career.

      • HartofDixie Says:

For Jordan’s sake I hope her mom stays under the radar. People will bring up her criminal mom and that could ruin her chances (again) to go on DWTS and future brand deals.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

D fits it better. I hope Karyin Finnel does something of merit, other wise, this is a pretty boring , below average set of gymnasts.

  10. HartofDixie Says:

  11. Suki Says:

Hezly Rivera has no business being chosen for the Jesolo team. She was taken because of her name, not for what she accomplished at camp today. If they give her an a chance at an AA placement that will prove this was based on her potential, not her placement. Simone Rose should have been on the Jesolo team.

  12. HartofDixie Says:

  13. HartofDixie Says:

  14. imperatorcarolus Says:

First teams announced for Euros. Becky Downie for GB (I kinda expected it, mostly because GB has a lot of injuries and a very shallow team, so they must have said fuck it, let’s try) and no Melanie for France.

I was hoping for Djena to make French team, but I have to say that Ming is a complete surprise for me and I am excited to see what she brings to the table.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Downie who does nothing but fall being on this team and Amelie not is a joke . The winners get asterisks without Russia anyway but this is US special treatment line of bias.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Amelie is not well, coming back from an injury. With the Olympics in sight, and how many injuries team GB has (most probably neither Gadirova will be there, for example) I would not even take the risk of her being an alternate.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Downie is only chosen only because many others are injuries. For the Olympics, if some of the injuried are avaliable, she doesn’t have any possibility. The problem is that GB has very little depht and many injuries. I would not risk Amelie, to be honest.

      • HartofDixie Says:

Isn’t Amelie back at Utah? I’m expecting to see her compete.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Amelie returned to “elite” in GB this March, but this article says she will be in Utah until the end of the season on April before returning. Maybe they made her reserve so she can compete in Utah and not hurry back to Europeans, that are the beginning of May. But it is strange for GB to make this concessions on an Olympic year for a member that has possibilities to make the Olympic team. She is reserve for the Europeans after all.

        https://www.deseret.com/sports/2024/04/04/european-gymnastics-championship-great-britain-amelie-morgan-reserve-utah/

      • HartofDixie Says:

        She’s competing today.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Then it is makes so much sense that she is not selected for the Europeans. Imagine ending the season at April 20th, rush back to Europe for Europeans to travel to Italy the last week of April to compete from May 2nd onwards, without a proper “elite” training. I thought she was still reeling from injuries. But with the situation GB is at, I would have insisted for her to skip the end of the season to train at GB. She is a huge possibility if neither Gadirova is ready and they are not taking Becky to the Olympics unless they are unable to reunite a five person team with normal scores.

    • HartofDixie Says:

And why isn’t Melanie going? Is she going to skip international comps until the Olympics?

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I am not sure. She was at Antalya cup a few days ago. She won bronze on floor. She seems to be okay and having some international appointments to test routines. Or they are trying to keep her safe or they are trying to improve some things of her routines for the Olympics and they prefer for her to continue working on it instead of going to the Europeans. I really, really don’t like the new routine’s music. It seems like it swallow her.

  15. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy’s team for Euros. If they are all well, this is Italy’s dream team. With these people, they should be the ones to watch.

    • HartofDixie Says:

I think this will be the Italian Olympic team if they can stay healthy!

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Most probably, yeah. This is the Italian “dream team” of their junior years. But I really don’t trust Casella not to break them before the Olympics.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Andreoli might have a shot, but her relationship with the federation is weird, so I don’t know. And Martina Maggio, if she comes back in time in good shape, will have a very good shot. Veronica Mandriota y Bernandelli would be good replacements too if something happens.

  16. ByeUCLAGym Says:

UCLA has been eliminated. They didn’t make it out of prelims. They looked stunned, and this was with pro UCLA scoring during their floor rotation. (I was there)

Margzetta Frazier was asked by the media what she wanted to be remembered for and her quote said, she wanted to be remembered for the way she treated people. She really loves to pretend she is the victim. i know for a fact several people are very happy to see her go. They wishes she would have left last year

There wasn’t a lot of dancing around and acting like they won the Olympics this time.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I do enjoy watching UCLA fall a part. Though to be fair this group minus the little bigot brigade that ran whats her name out of town for singing a song lyric with the N word in it, aren’t as annoying as ususal. Though I don’t really pay that much attention anymore. The over scoring they get has always been annoying, and the fact they only care about going viral. You know what, never mind. They are just as annoying. So Emma can go to the third world cup and make the Olympics now. Or try too.

    • HartofDixie Says:

So many people on twitter and reddit were blaming Chris Waller for the last recruits he got and the gymnasts that sat out to train for the Olympics rather than the team that underperformed. Glad Marz is finally done!

  17. HartofDixie Says:

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No Simone so far. No Gabby, but I am pretty sure she needs to qualify or petition. AND, Yeah Leanne.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Core Hidration whatever is just normal Classics, right?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes. You can qualify to Nationals at it.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok. The weird promotional name confused me. And I still don’t eat Oreos. I don’t know this brand of water, but this labels shouldn’t fuck with me.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL, I think of you every time i see an Oreo’s package 🙂

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

As you should. As you should. If these people ever make me hate something really good, like M&Ms or something, there will be blood.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

      Oh, Trinity! Love her still!

  20. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Coline was at Osijek, too:

  21. gymtruthteller Says:

Here are Romania’s Euro’s trials scores. Sabrina nearly fell on her first pass so that is why her floor score is low. A Romanian getting 8 execution scores on bars especially with the shit routine that girl has is interesting. I know they are doing what every country does when it comes to their top gymnast but this is just a joke at this point.

    https://frgimnastica.com/storage/3182/661160ae8463a_Individual-compus.pdf

    • gymtruthteller Says:

And I am happy to see Lilia Cosman do so well. She was pretty impressive execution wise at the last Worlds. Her start values are low, but at least she was enjoyable to watch.

Mara finished 7th, also low start values but not bad for building. Though getting a lower execution score than Sabrina on bars makes me question how biased these judges are.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Mara did AA after her injury. So happy to see her back. At least it seems that if the Romanian Federation doesn’t screw up, they will have a good enough team for Europeans. But you can never trust Romanian Federation. Or Casella. Never trust Casella.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I also think of you when someone says Casella.lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I see that my plan to constantly live rent free in your head is working, my dear. I am glad.

  22. imperatorcarolus Says:

  23. imperatorcarolus Says:

Pretty good stuff at Italy gymnastics today. Italy looks very good this season and for the future. Casella, you better not fuck this up.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s kind of early to look good.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Casella needs time for his evil woes. In any case, the Europeans are in Italy this year, so they are really invested and it is less than a month to go now.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They have a good shot to win if they hit. GB is sending spare parts. France is overscored and overrated. I don’t even know who is left to win. Without Russia around.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

This year even Romania might have a shot. They had a somewhat good internal test this weekend.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Romania isn’t getting 8 execution scores in a real competition. lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Well, but if the competition presented by other countries is feeble, the possibilities are wide open. Much more interesting than Worlds.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I saw their stars bar routine on a Romanian Instagram . She missed every handstand and had form issues . That execution score will be a point lower with real judges .

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Ey, maybe we have a shot. Laura Casabuena is really good.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hey, did I see Maggio’s name on the list of gymnasts who competed at their recent meet? I thought she was injured.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yes, she was! She was, she is full on comeback. This weekend have been the first competition that I know of in which she competed full competitive routines since her surgery. If she is well, she will be a huge contender for Paris.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

If Casella doesn’t break them, Italy hasn’t had so many first level gymnasts for an Olympics ever. They will have some though decisions to make in the selection.

  24. Lucia Says:

The next time someone calls this blog toxic you should save some of the Reddit and Twitter comments people are making about UTAH Gymnastics (who had to count a 9.5 on bars at Regionals) They are radically more toxic than this place has ever been.

  25. HartofDixie Says:

    • Lucia Says:

Of course, Gabby and Woga are waiting to register when they can receive the most attention. She has already successfully petitioned to this meet.

  26. gymtruthteller Says:

Who’s got a blog idea? I don’t want to cover the asterisk Europeans. Classics isn’t for a month. I need a blog idea.

I am a Powerade girl and will now have to start drinking Gatorade. That was a long commercial (I fast forwarded it to see which company it was) That’s coke, right? I read somewhere Jordan was in a Nike commercial as a dancer but haven’t seen it. Simone can take time away to make commercials, not sure Jordan can.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

NO EUROPEANS?! I wanted to blog anyway if you don’t mind (if you do mind, I will shut up, of course).

    • Brainy Says:

It’s still 2 1/2 months away, so it might be a better idea for a later blog in June…. Upgrades that we want to see from gymnasts at the US gymnastics Olympic Trials.

#1 — I want to see Biles land the Yurchenko double pike and not have her coach spot.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

But that means I have to think, and I’ll be honest, I don’t have the fandom in me to spend that much time on that subject:)

And why are they naming teams for Euros now, if the meet is in two months?

I started a blog, Suni vs Shilese and got bored, and I spent way too much money on a sport I don’t even like anymore. I don’t know what I’m doing. (I have started re-watching season 3 of Dawson’s Creek, and that has been taking up my time. )

      • gymtruthteller Says:

OOPS. Sorry, I thought I was answering Rocio’s question. God, I’m tired.

So the first part of my comment is for you. I don’t have it in me to think of upgrades for everyone.

Tho I did read Simone is doing her Amanar now and not the crazy vault.

      • Brainy Says:

Very sorry – didn’t mean to suggest a research project. You are always nice enough to let us take blog comments in whatever tangent we want, so I thought that it would be fun to snark about gymnast’s routines and propose different skills in order to get max D & E values.

Biles’ Yurchenko double pike is an easy target and an example of what I meant. She should be throwing that vault now only if she can get it back to the secure landing that she had with it when she introduced it in 2021. If Simone’s current execution of this vault requires her coach to spot her, then it’s probably smartest for her to bring back the Amanar.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Don’t apologize and I didn’t mean to sound bitchy. I just don’t know what I could even come up with. I want Leanne to do a Cheng but not sure that is realistic. I swear if that girl doesn’t have 6 start values across the board. Maybe less on floor. As for everyone else I couldn’t even come up with anything. I like certain things like the aerial cartwheel , two layouts that Suni does. That is 4 tenths. I wish Leanne would do that.

If you want to write a guest blog with some ideas I will post it.

And all I meant by Simone is she has already said she is doing the Amanar. She didn’t say the other vault was too scary but it obviously is because she couldn’t do it without her coach on the podium and she was so pissed losing last year. You could tell. She pretended to be nice but when Rebecca beat her she was so mad. That smile was so fake.

  27. Suki Says:

Earlier today a poster on Reddit mentioned that Nastia was mean to Shawn and the mod removed the reply because it linked to your blog about Nastia and the gold ribbon.

The mod at Reddit is a total Nazi. She is always removing comments she doesn’t like. I have a few online friends who were blocked unfairly in the past, and when they enquired why it happened, the mod laughed at them and said they could do what they wanted. You should create a Gymtruthteller Reddit and drive them crazy.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

That explains the extra clicks on the Nastia blogs over the last few days. Nastia the gift that keeps giving.

Reddit, yuck. I have received multiple e-mails from people blocked for no reason by that place, but I have successfully avoided it for years and plan on continuing that trend:)

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The only thing I do on reddit is check “Am I the asshole?” because some post read like telenovelas. If not, it is a black hole I don’t want to get into.
