The asterisk, 2022, Europeans (Podium Training )

Website with info {Thanks Rocio} And I don’t want to hear these Europeans aren’t asterisked. No Russians, we get ********* galore.

ROCIO, Here is your answer

“The results of both the senior and junior qualifying competition will determine the All-Around European Artistic Gymnastics Champion 2022.” Written in the middle of the website you sent me. Thanks to Rocio for reminding me there even was a 2022 asterisk Europeans. Honestly, there should be a separate AA.

  1. imperatorcarolus Says:

They pull that out of their asses, because Europeans have always been one year AA, the next one team, the third AA and the Olympic year team final. Never had been anything like an AA champion through qualifications. If they wanted to add it, they should have done AA and team final, not that bullshit. I don’t know why they did that, and why they didn’t publicize it. If I hadn’t read the official webpage looking for the schedule, I would have been none of the wiser.

  2. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, reasons to be excited by these Russianless europeans:

Team GB with the Gadirovas back after a year of holidays. We are all very hyped up about the Gadirovas, and now with more experience after the surprising Tokyo bronze, we are ready for them to take several medals in these Europeans. I am very excited about them, to see in which point they are.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Extra kudos for my girl Ondine, one of the few I have followed since her junior years (I don’t usually follow juniors, except for the Russian ones…that sets me up for a heartbreak and I have enough of that with football, thank you very much). Look out for her vault and especially for her floor. Here is the video of her floor at the Commonwealth games.

  3. imperatorcarolus Says:

Team Italy, who have showed important promise, should have Giorgia Villa back. Although you never know with Casella (reminder of how I hope Vanessa is still texting him each morning and night to tell him how she is the only Italian to have a World AA medal and an Olympic medal), she seems to be healthy enough for once in an important, international competition to show the promise that has been talked about since forever. With her, the D’Amato twins and Martina Maggio, we will see Andreoli, who is sixteen this year. She has already been in competition in Germany and in the Mediterranean games with good results, but this is her first competition of first level as a senior. Andreoli is one of those juniors that have been talked about for years in Italy and all people expects a lot of her. We will see if she measures up, but she is very good, especially on floor. Here is her floor at the DTB Cup this year (not her best, to be honest):

  4. imperatorcarolus Says:

Team Romania is another one of the must see. This year, all the famous new seniors (not so new anymore) seem to be healthy and accounted for, with Duta, Barbosu, Sfiringu and Stanciulescu scheduled to compete. Only Ceplischi is missing because of an injury, and had been substituted by 16 years old Andreea Preda. We will see now if they can live up to the myth and can snatch up a medal for Romania, after several years without any medals in the big competitions like Worlds and Europeans, except for Golgota’s medals at the Europeans and the decaifeinatted Europeans of 2020 to which nobody went and nobody think counted in the least. And in the junior division are Puflea and Voinea, I am wary of this Romanian team because they have a lot of hype, but the problem are not the girls, but the federation, so I can’t trust this team. But it is clear they have more than enough quality to be great. Here is Barbosu’s floor at Osijek world cup, who gave her the gold this year:

  5. imperatorcarolus Says:

France is a big question mark, more than usual. The French team have lots of consistency issues, even our dear Melanie, very, very loved, had problems to hit consistently at big meets, and she was their most consistent gymnast. So I regard the French team warily. They can do very well and threat Italy, especially if this team, who isn’t very consistent itself because Casella is always pushing for not dominated elements or for injuried gymnasts to compete, or they can completely tank. Melanie is not competing (she is still in America, as far as I know), but they are going to the Europeans with Lorette Charpy (lots of love to Lorette), Marine Boyer, Aline Friess, Caroline Heduit and Morgane Ossysek, who is little known internationally, but is not a new senior, but a 19 years old. As Morgane is the less known, here is her floor at Varna (not her best, but she has a promising double-double):

  6. imperatorcarolus Says:

Other team to take into account is Germany, with a lot of veterans. This will be Kim Bui’s last competition, as she wants to retire and do it at home soil. With her we will find Sarah Voss, Pauline Schäfer, and Sarah Voss. The youngest member of this team is 18 years old Emma Malewski, who had very good results as a junior. This is a very experienced team and I think most of people disregard it as a non-threat, but given that France and Italy are very inconsistent, Romania can go very good or very bad, and Russia is not here, they can sneak into the podium if they are reliable enough if some of the other team fails. This is Emma’s BB routine in the last German Championships:

  7. imperatorcarolus Says:

Special mention to Zsofia Kovacs, who have come back after a string of injuries in podium training. She got over 14.6 recently in UB and, without the Russians, it could easily become a medal. I hope Felipa Martins from Portugal gets a medal at UB too.

In any case, GB is the team to beat for sure, only to be threatened by Italy if they hit everything and GB does not. Silver and bronze are up to grabs, but if everybody hits, it should be GB, Italy and France, with Romania in fourth, but given that the last three tend to tank very often, especially France, I would never disregard Germany’s chances.

  8. imperatorcarolus Says:

Good morning, everyone (read with Fran Drescher from “The Nanny”‘s voice). First subdivision is around to start in five minutes. Olly Hogben is commenting, which is a blessing, and everything is ready for the European Championships!

  9. imperatorcarolus Says:

God, I love to hear Olly commenting!

  10. imperatorcarolus Says:

First subdivision will include Turkey, Austria (very nice presentation), The Netherlands, Croatia, Latvia, Slovakia and the house team, Germany! I wonder why they put Germany so soon, but I hope they give the last place to Kim Bui at some point of the competition so she can go with a bang. She really deserves it.

  11. imperatorcarolus Says:

Oh, damn, the score chair is back. I hate that chair, especially when the gymnast hadn’t had a good rotation.

  12. imperatorcarolus Says:

Lots of waiting of the stream, I am having Oreo commercial flashbacks. I am getting more news from Twitter. 14.266 for Naomi Visser, but we just got the last part of her routine. It seems like Sanna had a fall at the dismount, but Vera Van Pol did very well, with difficult combinations. The Netherlands are looking very strong at UB. Lots of waiting for the score.

  13. imperatorcarolus Says:

Germany is beginning on beam. Circle of praying incoming.

  14. imperatorcarolus Says:

Emma begins on beam. Nice mount. Some woobles and missed connections, but so far, so good. Good triple wolf turn (hope they get extinct, hate them) and good dismount. She survives, it is not the best set, with woobles and problems of connections, but very solid for her and her overall level.

  15. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kim Bui on (and we still don’t know Emma’s score, they are not showing scores consistently). Very nice for Bui, very secure, although she missed the connection with the leaps. Two hit routines for Germany on beam, with their potentially top scoring in this apparatus still to go. If they survive beam, they have chances.

  16. imperatorcarolus Says:

Pauline Schäefer set to start. The stream is marking Voss for all the German gymnasts and none of them were Voss, lol. The stream is not good, but Olly comments are, so I am just happy I can see quals. Not a good set, very big wooble and she almost touched the beam to avoid the fall (I think she didn’t touch it), big wooble also in the spin, but some good acrobatics there. She is going to go overtime if she doesn’t watch it, but she didn’t. Not a great set, but avoided the fall. Given how they gave a 7.9 to Kim without major mistakes, she is going to have a lot of deductions, but a higher D-Score to compensate. I suppose she will get into the finals without Russia (not many beamers on this Europeans, to be honest). 13.166 for her. Yes, she is going to be on the finals.

  17. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, coming back after breakfast to see Netherlands on beam. Tisha Vollerman had a fall, which is unfortunate. 11.300 for her.

  18. imperatorcarolus Says:

After surviving beam, Germany moves to floor.

  19. imperatorcarolus Says:

Emma on floor. Nice and very fun event for Emma. It is a pity that the judges give exactly 0 fucks about artistry. She was very secure, only minor mistakes at the landing and at the wolf turn (covered nicely with choreography). Well done for Emma.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

12.466 for Emma. Floor judges are being very strict, too. Then we will get to the vault judges and they will begin to throw 9,00 as if the world is ending.

  20. imperatorcarolus Says:

This time it is Sarah Voss, thank you innacurate stream cartels. Very expressive routine with the song “The show must go on”, and I am appreciating very much that is a song without cuts, something that unfortunately seems very in vogue right now. Some problems with the landings, and she almost went OOB on her own getting ready for a pass, but difficult elements. 12.100 with a 7.1? It seems rigorous. The floor judges are not in the good stuff.

  21. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kim Bui in and she falls in the wolf turn (hate those). But absolutely gorgeous first two passes. Very nice routine except for the wolf turn (eliminate them, obliviarate them, blow them off to smittereens).

  22. imperatorcarolus Says:

The Netherlands on floor with Naomi Visser. Difficult first pass, nice turns. Nice rotation for her, with some added difficulty since the last time I saw her, I think. 13.633, that is huge for these judges.

  23. imperatorcarolus Says:

Van Oorschot now. Powerful gymnast, but still in her first years, so I hope to see more of her in the future. Glimpses of very good things to come, but she needs more difficulty to be truly competitive. But she is a very new senior, so she is a great future bet for a very diminished Dutch team after the problems they are having with the Weavers and Eythora, and the retirement of big names. Good job for her. 12.566 for her.

  24. imperatorcarolus Says:

Germany is going to vault. I am seeing Seitz here, I think she didn’t compete in floor; the stream didn’t show the full German rotation, but I saw that Voss, Bui, Schaefer and Emma counted scores, so no place for her. I hope she is all right.

  25. imperatorcarolus Says:

Very clean FTY for Seitz. She is capable of more difficult vaults, so she might be injuried. 13.100 with a 8.9 E score. The vault judges are more stingy than usual, but in comparision with beam and floor judges, they are that relative that gives you a fifty for Christmas when your parents aren’t looking.

  26. imperatorcarolus Says:

Nice vault for Sarah Voss as well.

  27. imperatorcarolus Says:

Germany is going to UB, where their scores should bump up. Missed Emma, but she had a hit routine with a difficult double front dismount. 13.100 for her, with a 4.9 D-score, but above 8 in E score.

  28. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kim Bui in UB. Very nice! Very smooth, packed with difficulty, I just saw some leg separation in the first change, but nothing else. Planted on the lading. 14.200 for her and only two scores has been over 14 in all apparatus for the time being.

  29. imperatorcarolus Says:

Seitz in, nice routine so far, but a little labored, full twisting double back one the landing. Great routine for her and she seems very happy as well.

  30. imperatorcarolus Says:

Germany first on team quals with 158.730 with the Netherlands around 155.

  31. imperatorcarolus Says:

Getting in with the second subdivision because relatives like to drop in unexpectedly when I am doing something fun, always. Always for babysitting duties to which my parents agreed without consulting. Of course. At least is for tomorrow, so I won’t miss finals.

  32. imperatorcarolus Says:

Finland, Portugal. Ireland, Sweden, Hungary and SPAIN here. Allow me to fangirl a little with my home team, but here we are mostly to see specialists and Zsofia Kovacs.

  33. imperatorcarolus Says:

Emma Fernández for Spain in UB. She mostly survives, has a lot of open legs and problems to stay in the bar at one point. It is not a great routine, but she survives.

  34. imperatorcarolus Says:

Zsofia in beam. Very nice until she fell off beam in the spin and, after that, meltdown with another fall. So bad for Zsofia, she seemed on fire. Hope she has a better day in the rest of the competition.

  35. imperatorcarolus Says:

By the way, I love how Olly never says that a gymnast fell. It is always an unintentional dismount for him. So nice.

  36. imperatorcarolus Says:

Alba Petisco on UB. She is probably the strongest gymnast we have in this competition, although UB is not her best apparatus, she is a vaulter/floor worker. But very nice so far, better than Emma. Good exercise for her.

  37. imperatorcarolus Says:

Spain on beam. Pray for us.

  38. imperatorcarolus Says:

Laura Casabuena, a new senior for Spain, on beam now. Very good acro series. She was going so good in a relatively difficult exercise for our federation and sat down at the dismount. Damnation to hell. And she saved the mount because some sort of miracle. 11.700 for her.

  39. imperatorcarolus Says:

Filipa Martins on UB right now. She should be aiming for gold here…and counts a fall and flexed her legs and some point (I don’t know if she touched the lower bar with her legs or not). Another huge mistake and she didn’t repeat the missed element, so less D-score. I don’t know what is going to happen with her final…

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Two Germans and at least one for the Netherlands are already in that finals, and I suppose another two from GB, another two from Italy and at least Lorette for France, but Alisse and Caroline also have strong UB…there has to be a full meltdown in later categories for Filipa to make UB finals.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

11,633 for Filipa, and looking at how things are going, that was generous. There is already several people ahead of her, so it is safe to say that she will be out of UB final.

  40. imperatorcarolus Says:

Look at the mount Laura Casabuena saved:

  41. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is a pity what happened to Zsofia Kovacs on beam, because she did great in the rest.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

She had a fall at the dismount in UB as well after a great routine overall.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She still had a 13.366, as the rest of the routine was very good. For a competition in which 14s are like unicorns, it is a very high score despite the fall and shouldn’t hurt her too much.

  42. imperatorcarolus Says:

With two subdivisions to go, Naomi Visser leads AA, followed by Kim Bui and Ksofia Kovacs, despite a rough day. With the team, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary and then Spain on fourth, followed by Finland. Given that at least France, Italy, Belgium and GB will get ahead of us, I pretty much need the rest to tank it.

  43. imperatorcarolus Says:

Subdivision 3 set to start, with Norway, Romania (let’s see how they do. Just four, why just four for the presentation of the teams?), Denmark, Ukraine, Switzerland, Slovenia, Iceland and Georgia.

  44. imperatorcarolus Says:

I have read in GYMeme account that it is Ioana Stanciulescu the one who wasn’t present in the Romanian’s presentation, but there was no announcement, neither any calling of a reserve. Ioana is the best they have with Sfiringu and Ceplenischi couldn’t even go to Munich because on an injury, so I don’t know if her injury was so recent that they hadn’t time to call the reserve on time or it is just Romania doing Romanian things and THIS IS WHY YOU CAN’T TRUST ROMANIAN FEDERATION. Not the girls, the girls are lovely, but the federation, pulling this shit for decades. How can you pull this shit for decades, DECADES, and not contemplate that the Romanian system is what is wrong!?

  45. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ioana’s absence is confirmed, as well as the fact that Sfiringu, who wasn’t going to do AA (especially floor) because she is coming back form injuries and illnesses, with broken bones, is set to compete on everything. AND THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE RESERVES DESPITE THEM BRINGING DOWN THE OVERALL SCORE, SO A KID WHO STILL ISN’T TOTALLY HEALTHY DOESN’T FEEL FORCED TO COMPETE INTERNATIONALLY IN A VERY DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS SPORT!

  46. imperatorcarolus Says:

Olly isn’t commenting this subdivision. He must be prying for Romanian’s girls (not for Romania, that federation is nuts) too.

  47. imperatorcarolus Says:

Romania begins on vault. Praying circle number 1 begins. And to be clear, praying that none of them gets hurt or worse of their current injuries, because at this point in time I don’t care that much for their scores, but for their quality of life.

  48. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, I am back (pause for lunch, yes at 16.00). As I can see from Twitter, 13th place to go to Worlds and try to qualify for Olympics is a real peril right now.

  49. imperatorcarolus Says:

Barbosu in UB. Nice, nice, oh, tick tack legs, love that! Almost stuck dismount. Very nice routine for her, 13.500, a very high score for the ones we have seen in this competition.

  50. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, nobody died, all the girls as healthy as they can be right now, okay. Let’s breathe.

  51. imperatorcarolus Says:

Olly and her partner (I didn’t get her name, so sorry) came back for the second rotation, great.

  52. imperatorcarolus Says:

I read on Twitter that Romania did reasonably well on UB; with only a fall for Silviana, and 12.100, 12.400 and a huge score for Barbosu with 13.500.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

It is very weird for me to count 13.500 in uneven bars as a good score, as a person who have lived through 16+ UB routines on finals, but there has been only a couple of 14’s so far, so it is.

  53. imperatorcarolus Says:

Romania on beam. Preda in. Nice so far, big wooble after the spin, but the rest very good. Good dismount. Nice routine for Preda, who was silver at the Youth Championships a couple of years ago (I don’t remember when, sorry).

  54. imperatorcarolus Says:

Barbosu hits, too, Very good routine for her, except for little things like the crossed, Russianlike legs in the dismount. But nice one. 13.233 for her. So much hype with Iona and Silviana without taking into account Barbosu seems really unfair to me, she is great. And with one routine to go, she is second in the AA!

  55. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, floor time for Romania. This is the event in which the recently injuried Romanian girls have a greater risk, so praying for them. Do gymnastics have patron saints or something?

  56. imperatorcarolus Says:

Duta had a fall on beam, but the rest did okay, so just floor remaining. Unless they have a total meltdown, they are going to be amongst the 13 firsts for sure, and they can beat Spain to assure themselves a place on the finals. It is a great improvement after vault, where they had a similar score to Austria and made people fear for the worst regarding quals!

  57. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Barbosu’s beam:

  58. imperatorcarolus Says:

Silviana is going on floor…reactiving circle of prayers. Preda and Barbosu did well, Duta fell but, please, leave this girl alone…

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

That was scary. Two falls, one of a wolf turn and another one at the end of the last pass, with a very low acrobatics in the second to made me close my eyes. Poor Silviana, she wasn’t schedule to compete this event or even AA and had several falls in different apparatus.

  59. imperatorcarolus Says:

Barbosu is the new Romanian saviour.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

13.266 for Barbosu, but I didn’t see which was Silviana’s score. But Barbosu ends up second in the AA after Naomi Visser (and my opinion is that Barbosu did better, with more difficulty, although Visser is very, very clean).

  60. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, end of the third subdivision. The subdivision 4 is beginning before they show the full results for the last one, ok…

  61. imperatorcarolus Says:

In subdivision 4 we will see GB, Poland, a Ninaless Belgium, Israel, Czech Republic, Italy, Greece and France!

  62. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, GB on vault, Belgium on UB.

  63. imperatorcarolus Says:

I got the stands on Twitter. Romania is currently on fifth after Spain, but less than a point above Finland. Finland! They will probably be out of team finals, but they should count their blessings, because if Barbosu hadn’t saved their asses, with a mention to Preeda who enter at the last minute to substitute Ceplenschi, they would be way worse

  64. imperatorcarolus Says:

Huge first vault for Jessica G., just Jennifer doing AA, her is looking for qualification for vault finals. Very few gymnasts have competed two vaults, it is a good year for her to win gold. Nice second vault. Good job for her. 13.533 and to the final.

  65. imperatorcarolus Says:

Great vault for my girl Ondine here, very high and long, only a little to the side, but very nice.

  66. imperatorcarolus Says:

The CM of the British Federation has a nick to choose the worst pictures of their athletes ever, I swear to God.

  67. imperatorcarolus Says:

Villa on beam. Nice triple wolf turn (and I don’t say that lightly). She is using a watered down routine. Very nice dismount, with only a big wooble. Good routine for her, but this is a watered down routine, so I think she is not at the top of her health (In case someone wonders, I am sure it is Casella’s fault. You can’t have a gymnast still on the mend competing in all the Serie A stuff and in less competitions and expect them to be healthy in the big competitions). Still, big score for her. I think the jugdges are being more merciful in these last two rotations. 13.466 for her.

  68. imperatorcarolus Says:

Caroline Heduit of France on floor. Huge big pass, very high, but she has problems with the end of the second and I think she went OOB. Stuck the last pass. Except for the second pass and the wolf turn, very nice, with very high pirouettes.

  69. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia d’Amato on beam. Not her best set, with two big woobles and at least one missed connection (it might be two..), but very good dismount and secure enough. 13.500. Definitely the beam judges are being much more generous this subdivision.

  70. imperatorcarolus Says:

Aline on floor. Wow, huge opening pass, but the second pass is very low on difficulty. Nice one for Aline, but it is a watered down routine, so I don’t know how it is going to be on D-score. But what she did, she was very clean on. Long, long wait for her score.

  71. imperatorcarolus Says:

GB on UB now, and Belgium on beam.

  72. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jessica on UB, nice routine until the dismount, because she tripped and had to take several steps to avoid falling, but it is a very difficult routine. The rest was very good, except for some issues with open legs, but the rest was good. 12.833. A little low, especially taking into account what was given to Zsofia with an actual fall.

  73. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ondine on UB. Very nice until she had a problem with balance and she had to control it to not fall, but she actually falls on the dismount. Damn, she is really good on UB, GB has a good school there.

  74. imperatorcarolus Says:

Mae-Fenton on, an especialist on this apparatus. And she hits! Very good performance for her; I don’t know what Kinsella did.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

They replayed it. Kinsella did well with a 13.966, a very strong score in this competition and in my opinion, a little high taking into account what we have seen in the first two subdivisions.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

13.900 for Mae-Fenton and it is a travestry that Kinsella’s score is higher than hers.

  75. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy on floor. Martina Maggio in. Maggio is always so solid…Very nice routine. 13.833 for Martina. So very well done!

  76. imperatorcarolus Says:

France is on vault right now. 13.200 for Marine Boyer. 13.150 on average for Morgan.

  77. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia d’Amato on floor. Huge first pass for Alice. She is really on fire! Minimal problems in the third subdivision and the rest was great!

  78. imperatorcarolus Says:

Heduit and Aline did well on vault.

  79. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andreoli on floor . Nice routine for her, without any major mistakes. Villa is dressed, so I think she is going to sit this one out and not going for AA.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yes, both the d’Amatos did floor, so Villa is not doing AA. Kim Bui, Naomi Visser and Barbosu are waiting as the three highest scoring AAers so far.

  80. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, GB better be cleaning up their game in beam of all places, because Italy is not taking any prisioners.

  81. imperatorcarolus Says:

GB on beam. Ondine on beam. Very nice acro series. Some hensitations and missed connections, but fine overall. She got a foot out of bounds in the lading, so that is going to cost her.

  82. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Andreoli’s floor:

  83. imperatorcarolus Says:

It seems like GB is not really comfortable today. It doesn’t really matters, as it quals, but they better watch it.

  84. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jennifer on beam. You are going to fast, kid slow down. WHAT DID I TELL YOU?! Big wooble there, but she saves it. It is a very difficulty packed routine, although she seemed a little rushed.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

12.900 for Jennifer Gadirova. Jessica Gadirova in. Better paced than her sister, but she fell down on her acro. A nasty fall, to be honest, and seemed to be in the verge of crying. Poor kid.

  85. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kinsella was doing good but stumbled in the dismount. What is happening today with GB and dismounts? She avoids falling, but barely, and took so many steps that she went out of the podium.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

      13.033 for Kinsella, with less than a 7.5 E-score.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I turned it on in the middle of the second session. GB needs to show up in team finals.

I love Kinsella but GB’s beam scores have been generous. Jennifer’s was a mess and she got a 12.900.

This coverage is amazing. USAG, Take notice.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They are not having their day, that is for sure. Beam is kind of a question mark for GB even in their best days, but so many falls in UB are quite rare for them.

  86. imperatorcarolus Says:

Martina Maggio slaying…I hope an Italian wins this shit.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I am team GB. Italy’s floor was great. All 4 girls did great. I like Androli(sp) ‘s cleanness on floor.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I want to see Italy as a team hit for once. They have great potential, but they are usually one or more way too injuried to give their best. I think that is what is happening to Villa right now once again and that is why is doing only UB and BB.

  87. imperatorcarolus Says:

Aline in UB, not her best set and sat down her dismount. A pity; I like the kid.

  88. imperatorcarolus Says:

If someone looks at you like Asia is looking at vault, run without looking back.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

It seems like the vault has personally offended her ancestors or something.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Th D’Ammato’s are sloppy on vault.

Maggio is 3 tenths ahead of Alice for the AA title but Alice has floor and Maggio bars. Alice should be able to put score her on . Maggio’s bars can be messy.

Gadirova (Jessica is having a bad day. I don’t hink she can get in the AA medals even with a great floor. We will see

  89. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy is being sloppy on vault, but we have seen a lot of FTY on this quals, so only with the difficulty they will probably overcome any problems.

  90. imperatorcarolus Says:

Much better the second vault for Andreoli.

  91. imperatorcarolus Says:

We missed Lorette on the stream, but here she is!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      After 3 rotations.

      MAGGIO Martina 13.666 **** 13.400 13.833 40.899

      ITA D’AMATO Asia
      13.766 **** 13.500 13.566 40.832

      GBR
      KINSELLA Alice
      13.600 13.966 13.033 40.599
      68
      FRA
      HEDUIT Carolann
      13.800 13.733 12.766 40.299

  92. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ondine on floor. Powerful first pass, although a little low on the landing. Huge step on the second pass, not sure if she went OOB. Not her best routine, but she is on the clear for GB.

  93. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is very unfair that the first two subdivisions have been scored harsher than the other two. But when I say harsher, I say low 7 for hit routines, 7s that we have seen here for routines with falls.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

You shouldn’t have an AA final like this. I agree.

Kinsella was a bit lowballed on floor compared to others, IMO.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

This is not an AA final, this is something they pull off their asses, unheard of, in my opinion to avoid having a Russian as the European AA champion another year, because this is totally unfair, it has never been done and if you want to merge both competitions, you need a day for each final with the same judges. You can’t do it like this, is a travestry.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s an AA final in name

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Jennifer just nailed floor. That was great. Not a big fan of the music but she sold the hell out of that. That was well done.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

That was amazing. I hope to see her on floor final.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She’s in second. Jessica just went. They usually score her better on floor but I thought Jennifer’s was way better. Jessica’s is more difficult.

  94. imperatorcarolus Says:

They need a bigger couch. I hate those waiting for being pushed down the podium chairs/sofas.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

They can just push off whoever s out of the top 3.lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

it’s nice to have an AA final where you don’t know who will win. I hope Simone stays retired.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Heduit’s beam routine was very overscored. Her form is a mess

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

They are overscoring a lot in this last subdivision. Romania got some gifts too, but in the first two they were extremely rigorous. I think they changed at lunch and brought the good cops in.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Or maybe they ate their lunch and are now happier. This really is an unfair way to run an AA

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Did the snuck some happy pills on their coffee or something? I don’t know how things are going with the judges, but maybe they change midday, this has been on since 10, and is almost 20, maybe they change judges midday.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Maybe.lol

A 13.900 with a 5.4 start value on bars is a big score. A bit much in reality. Worlds judges won’t like this.lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Asia into first. A lot overscored with a 13.900 but it was easily a 13.300 which is what she needed. Kinsella would have been ahead by half a point if she didn’t screw up beam. (8 tenths is the most they can give you on one skill so that is all she got for that dismount mess)

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

You know I have defended Kinsella, but I don’t like how overscored she was today, and a person with big problems in two dismounts that should have been counted as falls can’t be AA gold in my opinion.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She should have been a lot higher on floor. GB was underscored on that event but overscored on bars

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She was overscored on UB and beam with that exist, given that they have given 7s without falls in this same competitions. And not happy judges have been given 7s to hit routines on floor, so Kinsella’s floor score was more consistent with the rest that downballed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Kinsella’s beam only could be deducted the 8 tenths more for that dismount .

Maggio getting bronze with that fall is ridiculous. As much as I though Heduit was overscored this is just unfair.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They have given them the happy pills. This is not normal. Watch the first two subdivisions and how strict they were. But if everyone is getting outrageous scores in this subdivision, at least the one who won is the one who more or less hit everything.

  95. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, Martina, you are a nice kid. Slay those UB.

  96. imperatorcarolus Says:

Poor kid. I am so sorry for her. It was so close…

  97. imperatorcarolus Says:

Martina is happy now…is she enough for bronze!?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I love the girl but come on. She was actually clean for this time of the century but a 13.033 with a fall and a 5.6 start value?

  98. imperatorcarolus Says:

I am very happy for Asia because she was always the one that was told was going to be left out sooner or later of the wonder generation of Italy. Villa was going to be the star, Alice and Iorio was going to be there with them, Federici, maybe, and as soon as some others like Maggio, Andreoli or of the old squad were better, she was going to be kicked out. So this must feel not only as triumph, but also as confirmation.

  99. imperatorcarolus Says:

This is not an AA final that I accept in my universe. I don’t care what they say,

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

This is not a way to do serious things.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Romania just missed team finals. By almost 8 tenths but so close

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Barbosu rocks, though. In any case, it is not the same. This is, suppossedly, the return of the golden generation of romanian gymnasts. You know how much hype there was. We Spain get by, we are a gymnast away from Finland or Austria most of times, for us is a very good day.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Thanks for your help today. This was great to wake up to while I was at lunch. I watched the rest of the competition on my phone at my desk. I didn’t get caught.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

It is a pleasure. I didn’t even swear too much. I can’t watch the juniors tomorrow, but I will be here for finals too.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I might be able to be here for some of the finals. That is Friday? Depending on the time.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

No, I think team final is Saturday, and event finals on Sunday. Tomorrow are the juniors, but let’s check.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        okay then.lol

Where is Maria Ceplinschi? I thought she was on this team?

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She was replaced because of an injury by Preeda, a new senior. She was on the team originally. And it seems that Ioana was injuried, she didn’t came out and forced Silviana to do everything. No reserve or anything. That federation is a mess. And they got gifts similar to France and Italy here. Tons.

  100. imperatorcarolus Says:

Spain is on Team Final, yay! And competing in one of the hard subdivisions, so we rock.

  101. imperatorcarolus Says:

Yeah, Team final is on Saturday at 14.00 (Central European Time) and all the event finals are on Sunday. Tomorrow are the juniors. .

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Saturday is even better. I have no clue about time when it comes to Europe.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The time in the webpage is the one for Germany, that is the same for most of Central and South Europe, except for UK and Portugal. 9 hours more than in LA, for example.

  102. imperatorcarolus Says:

And for things like this, you can’t trust Romania as a federation until there are very fundamental changes. This kid could have been seriously hurt trying for a routine for which she was in no way ready, and that could have been fixed with an alternate. They are trying the discurse of “she pushed through for the team”, which is bullshit. They could only count three scores, so she didn’t need to perform, and it was the misguided belief that an injuried gymnast without any training could score better than a fall which made her compete, and that is on the coaches. The coaches should have never allow this and if she was in such a poor state, why was she taken to Munich, instead of getting ready for Worlds?! That federation is a mess.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Not blaming Silviana on the least. All my respect to her, it was probably a scary and painful situation. But I don’t respect coaches who don’t put their gymnasts’ happiness and health first, and even for such idiotic reasons as this. How the fuck could those coaches think that forcing Silviana to do an event for which she hasn’t trained and was not ready would result in a higher score than Duta’s?!

  103. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy wins the junior team title, followed by Romania and Germany:

  104. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is time for team final! Let’s see if Italy can continue with their winning streak after getting the junior title and the AA title for Asia d’Amato. But we will see if GB can get to them if they hit. In the same vein, the bronze is up to grabs, with a not very polished France being chased by an experienced Germany and a very solid Netherlands. Let’s the fun begin!

  105. imperatorcarolus Says:

It seems that Casella is channeling his inner Martha once again and didn’t put Andeoli on team final because she didn’t do well enough at quals, putting preassure in Villa instead to fill for her on UB as well as on Beam, despite her not being in her best health.

  106. imperatorcarolus Says:

I am not sure if I like this kind choreopresentations or if I think they are a little stupid for adults. I suppose it depends of the presentation in question.

  107. imperatorcarolus Says:

That Hungary is on team final and Romania is not is very, very surprising. We all know that Romania is not in their best moment (to put it kindly), but Hungary has never been an strong federation team-wise.

  108. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, Italy and GB begin on vault, Germany and France on UB, Netherlands and Belgium on beam, and Hungary and Spain on floor.

  109. imperatorcarolus Says:

Good thing the national Spanish tv has connected on time, so I can watch the finals in my tv and not just in the laptop, yay. Not so yay: the awful commentator is back with the historical Spanish one. Paloma del Río is fine, although she is not at the top of the news, but her partner is not good. I hope they get Gervasio Deferr back, as in the Olympics. He was good and wasn’t scared to call out the judges bullshit.

  110. imperatorcarolus Says:

Let’s see if the beam and floor judges are Doctor Jekyll or Mr. Hyde this fine afternoon.

  111. imperatorcarolus Says:

Good vault for Martina, I think this is her more difficult vault.

  112. imperatorcarolus Says:

Emma on UB. Beautiful leo for Germany, in Bavarian blue. Good set for Emma, although a little labored. She needed three little jumps in the dismount, but good set for her. Not her best apparatus.

  113. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kinsella in. Not a good reception, she is going to loose there.

  114. imperatorcarolus Says:

Heduit in. Very nice set for her, very difficult exercise. Some leg openings, but very good dismount.

  115. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ondine on vault, very high. Very nice, although close to the penalization line.

  116. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia got 13.833, but they didn’t show her vault.

  117. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kim Bui in. We are going to miss you, Kim! Very difficult exercise, very good until almost the end, when she looses balance, but she regained her momentum for a good finish.

  118. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jessica and Alice d’Amato are the only ones who broke the 14s barrier on vault. Jessica got 14.00 (we didn’t see her) and Alice 14.100 with a very good vault.

  119. imperatorcarolus Says:

Lorette is in the house! Very nice for her, although it is clear that she is not still at her best. Had some problems in the low bar, but the rest was okay.

  120. imperatorcarolus Says:

The level of the Spanish bad commentator is that she tried to compare Jessica and Alice’s scores on vault and she gave Asia’s, forgetting that there are twins d’Amato competing and Alice is the especialist (on the final) in vault.

  121. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Seitz did great!!

  122. imperatorcarolus Says:

Alba Petisco on floor! She is our best gymnast in the competition. Great first pass! Not a bad wolf turn (still hate them). She only had a bad reception in the last one, already tired, but very good job for her.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

      12.933 for Alba!

      • Ota Says:

I didn’t know her before this competition but she was amazing. The whole arena was cheering on her.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I am glad to hear that. Alba was a member of the Spanish team for the Olympics and become a senior in 2019. Without Roxi, Ana and Cintia, she is the most senior member and leader of the Spanish team right now. Very good gymnast, we are glad to have her.

  123. imperatorcarolus Says:

Zsofia Kovacs had 12.300, so something happened there. She did well on floor on the quals (she placed up very high on the AA with falls in two apparatus, she was overscored, and you know I like her).

  124. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy leads, with GB in second and Germany in third. Spain is on sixth! The Netherlands are last, so there must have been problems on beam.

  125. imperatorcarolus Says:

GB and Italy are going to UB. GB should be better here, especially if they don’t use Andreoli, who has better bars on papers than Martina and Alice, but we will see.

  126. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ondine on UB. Lots of on open legs, she tried to control it but at the end she couldn’t and had to stop. It will be counted as a fall.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

And the Oscar of judges on happy pills today is for…the UB judges! With so many problems, they gave Ondine 8.9 E score, but only 5 on D-score. So they didn’t punish her for her stop, but took down her D value. 8.9 with so many problems is a travestry, and I love the girl.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

12.433 for her. Something is not right. I will revisit later or they were mistaken when they showed the scores (not unlikely, to be honest. This stream hasn’t been too clear with scores).

      • Ota Says:

She rested on the low bar for a good 10 seconds. How is that 8,9 E score?

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The stream was very bad regarding the scores. They did not showed them or mistook them for other gymnast’s. At that point I just gave up and checked them on the federations’ webpage. But it had to be lower, because she got in the middle 12’s for that exercise

  127. imperatorcarolus Says:

Villa is going to enter UB now. Let’s see how she does after her injuries. If I remember correctly, she didn’t do UB on quals.

  128. imperatorcarolus Says:

Heduit fell on beam and got a 11.300.

  129. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia in. Not a great set, with lots of open legs and didn’t get her handstands right…I don’t understand why they didn’t gave Andreoli the chance, she is very good at UB.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

For sure the UB judges are a happy campers today, because she got 14.00…

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The Spanish stream (take their opinions lightly) said that she had a 6.2 on D-score. That explains it, but I still consider the UB judges the happy campers if they counted everything.

  130. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kinsella got a 14.00, although they didn’t show her.

  131. imperatorcarolus Says:

France had another BB fall. They hadn’t showed France yet in this rotation, but they are going to show Pauline Schaefer. Great set for her! Much better than in quals.

  132. imperatorcarolus Says:

Mae-Fenton in. Good one, although a little down on the dismount. But she is going to score well.

  133. imperatorcarolus Says:

France has counted three falls on BB. I think Germany cursed it for them.

  134. imperatorcarolus Says:

Germany has gotten 13.500 on beam for Sarah Voss, and 13.7 for Pauline. High scores for them on the most rigorously judged apparatus. GB has to put on their big girl panties on if they want to have a placid last rotation.

  135. imperatorcarolus Says:

They put the scores with gymnasts still to be counted for. The fuck…

  136. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy leads, with GB in second. Italy leads for almost 3 points, while Germany is less than a point behind GB. The fourth is Hungary, 3 points after Germany, and France falls to fifth, with Spain in sixth, less than 0.3 after France.

  137. imperatorcarolus Says:

Villa on beam. Very nice set for her, she is a very secure gymnast WHEN SHE IS NOT INJURED OUT OF HER MIND BECAUSE CASELLA OVERWORKS HER, CASELLA DAMMIT!

  138. imperatorcarolus Says:

I am going to stop relying on the stream for scores, because they change the names and we can’t trust them. Just twitter now.

  139. imperatorcarolus Says:

Schaefer on floor. Very nice triple spin, not bad with some things, but Schaefer has never been a strong floor worker. If she is competing it here, something must be wrong with one of their teammates and she had to step in (with one because we already know that Eli Seitz is her only for UB and vault). Probably with Emma, because Sarah and Kim are competing too.

  140. imperatorcarolus Says:

Matina is in. One of GB had to have competed already on beam, but no news yet. Martina mostly survives, but with break forms and some woobles, so I don’t know. Why can’t we get the scores of the GB gymnast that competed before her?

  141. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jennifer Gadirova on beam. Nice, although a little rushed once again and she falls. She stopped the acro series and misses the last element. She is clearly unsettled after the fall. She ends, but her E score is not going to be great and she is going to loose some D.score for the acro, although she has a very difficult packed exercise.

  142. imperatorcarolus Says:

Zsofia Kovacs has a fall on the UB and her coach touched her, but I think she was already falling. Not sure though, but Hungary needed her score. Good exercise otherwise.

  143. imperatorcarolus Says:

Got from Twitter that the first GB gymnast on beam was Ondine, with a hit routine for a 13.700. Very good for her.

  144. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kinsella on beam. She seems nervous. Not a good wolf turn. She survives, several checks and I think there was something missing, but I don’t know if it is my impression or not. But hit routine for her.

  145. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kim Bui on floor. She took one wolf turn, smart decision after quals. She did very well.

  146. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia d’Amato was not shown, but got a 13.800. Gadirova had a 12.500 after her fall. So Italy had three hit routines.

  147. imperatorcarolus Says:

Pray for us, Spain is on beam.

  148. imperatorcarolus Says:

Last sudvision, with Italy first with more than 3 points over GB, who is second, and Germany is third, but they are almot four points behind (although their last rotation is on vault). Hungary is 4th, but with beam to go, the Netherlands is fifth, Belgium in 6th and France in 7th, because they are having one of their meltdown days.

  149. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is going to be very difficult for GB to get the gold, because Italy have good scores on floor as well and Italy has 3 points over them. GB needs Italy to have a full meltdown at this point to win gold.

  150. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jennifer Gadirova on floor. She had a problem in the last pass, when she had to take several long steps and went OOB. But the rest was great.

  151. imperatorcarolus Says:

People from the streaming: go to floor and vault, where the medals are being discussed. Don’t go to beam. I want to see my team like everyone, but this is not the right moment!!

  152. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kinsella in. I don’t know who preceeded her from Italy. Good first pass, although a little low and she went a little OOB. A little boring artistry-wise, especially being sandwiched between the Gadirovas, but packed with difficulty.

  153. imperatorcarolus Says:

The Spanish stream gushing about how the streaming is timing things to not missing anything on floor, when this competition doesn’t present all the gymnasts of one team at the same time and then the other team on their rotation, and that meant we have missed one rotation of Italy, who is likely to win gold, and we are only watching GB on floor and not Italy yet (probably we will watch them now because Germany is finished).

  154. imperatorcarolus Says:

Matina Maggio was the first Italian and got 13.733.

  155. imperatorcarolus Says:

Long wait for Alice Kinsella’s score.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Alice d’Amato went OOB in their last pass, but the rest was okay. It is not going to hurt them, as they have such a long advantage over GB and the rest was good.

  156. imperatorcarolus Says:

Kinsella got a 12.766 with a 4.9, a long run from the 14.00 of the quals.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Most probably because she was very overscored on quals, but something had to be wrong because she was only given a 4.9 D-Score.

  157. imperatorcarolus Says:

Gadirova went OOB in the first pass. Not her best day, that is for sure.

  158. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia knows she only has to stay on her feet. And still did great. Italy is the only team that didn’t counted any falls or major mistakes.

  159. imperatorcarolus Says:

    13.566 for Asia.

  160. imperatorcarolus Says:

    ITALY WINS GOLD!

  161. imperatorcarolus Says:

Silver for GB and giving thanks for some a little overscoring. They did not have a good competition and they are probably not satisfied. They were very confident after their Olympic bronze and I think they overdid it. Kinsella and Ondine should have rested after Commonwealth games, which was last week, and the Gadirovas should have competed a little bit more before coming back after so many months out of training after the Olympics.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

The Gadirova twins look out of shape to me. (For gymnasts, not usual humans) It showed in their gymnastics.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They had been out of competition for just too much. They have regained almost all their skills, so they are fine, just a little out of touch with competition. They will be fine with a little polishing, so I hope to see them at their best at Worlds. I thought they would be worse, or without their most difficult skills, after so many time on holidays. Especially for Jennifer, who was injuried while they were on holidays.

  162. imperatorcarolus Says:

Germany gets bronze after France has a complete meltdown. I swear I haven’t seen this federation compete without general meltdown on quals, on finals, or both. But general meltdowns, not a gymnast having a bad day.

  163. imperatorcarolus Says:

Netherlands and Belgium got 4 and 5, France 6th and Hungary and Spain at the end.

  164. imperatorcarolus Says:

I read on Twitter that Kinsella made a reclamation and her score was changed to 13.366 with a 5,5 D-score. More normal than the other, because it was not a great routine, but a 4,9 D-score was weird. Still, this is a fairer score for her routine than the 14.00 in the quals.

No official announcement, but if it is true, is very sad.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Not really sad. They have been around awhile. 21 used to be agent.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

21 is kind of young now. And it is a pity; they had such a promise, but didn’t really delivered in finals. I think they would benefit from more experience. But 21 is now more
        a peak.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I feel like Anastasia Bachynska has been around forever. My only memory of her is her ugly hair cut. Until those programs put in a full effort their gymnasts will never be medal worthy at World competitions. they seem to medal when no one else shows up.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

It is difficult, because programmes like those (and I know, Spain is the same), with little tradition and not much following, need huge investments with little revenue for a very long time, so there are little possibility for them to improve without major changes in funding/public following in those countries. For them is more profitable to focus on individual and promising gymnasts, that can medal in a given event, that try to form a full team that would probably never be able to compete for medals with the likes of USA and Russia. For Ukraine (the non-atending Europeans of 2020 aside) it was more profitable to present Variska as UB finalist able to get into important finals, or Bachynska as a beam especialist, that got medals at World Cups, that invest a lot in a full team that even with their best efforts wouldn’t be able to compete with the best for medals in more than a decade.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Bachynska became senior in 2019, so she has only be around for three years, one of them with almost all the competitions closed because of the pandemic. She is a 2003 baby.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It doesn’t matter. I feel like she’s been around forever. She was always at the world cups.

  166. imperatorcarolus Says:

GTT, this is the last I know about Mara:

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Well that sucks. Of course I am the last to know. I only look up gymnastics for this blog. i just learned Nationals is next week. I had forgotten Nationals existed.lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The Romanian Federation hasn’t said anything. They haven’t said anything about Ioana and she was scheduled to compete. I just knew of Mara’s injury because she was substituted by Preeda ahead of the beginning of the competition, but I didn’t even know which kind of injury she substained or if it was serious. So nobody knows much.

I didn’t remember about your Nationals either, but I suspect it will be way too late for me.

  167. Ota Says:

I went to the team finals today and here are some remarks: not a lof of people from Italy came. The crowd was obviously full of Germans, but there were a lot of French and brits as well. I was expecting a bigger Italian crowd. The fans were great. So supportive of everyone, especially the german team. Their excitment over the medal and Kim Bui final competiton was amazing. What a way to go.
I was rooting for the Italians but they have a lot of cleaning up to do.
Ondine was just exhausted today. Kinsella’s gymnastics looks good in person. There’s a certain gymnast on Dutch team who I’m wondering how she even stands, let alone does sport. I was overall impressed by the artistry in floor routines. A lot of new favourites. Funniest moment for me was Villa’s triple wolf turn on beam. She juuust made it around and winked on the judges. I bet they forgot about any deduction at that point.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

So nice! I hope you had a lot of fun! Villa is a joy to watch when she is okay. I think that GB overdid it with Commonwealth Games less than a week and a half away and then Europeans with three of the same gymnasts. I think the gymnast you are refering to is Naomi Visser. She looks very thin in television, I supposse she looks even thinnier on real life. But she has always been that way, so I think it is just her body structure.

      • brooklyngirl84 Says:

After watching today’s EF I’m legit concerned for Visser’s health. She looked unwell. I think you know what exactly I’m referring to. 😞

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yeah, she is very thin. She has always been, as long as I have watched her compete. I don’t know if that is something related to her metabolism in particular (I have known in real life really thin people who couldn’t gain weigh, which gave them problems when they desperately needed to get a little fatter, for example when they got pregnant or to regulate their temperature), or if there is something worse going on. She had a great competition, though.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Gymnastics competitions are fun to be at, if you can get past the kids who scream in your ear.

  168. imperatorcarolus Says:

It seems official for Variska after all:

  169. gymtruthteller Says:

USAG promoting to get their money. Florida will be signing autographs at Nationals so they feature Dicello in an article.

    https://usagym.org/pages/post.html?PostID=27768

  170. imperatorcarolus Says:

It’s Event finals’ day! We begin with vault. There were very few gymnasts who competed two vaults. I think it somewhat happened at Worlds, too. I think whereas UB and floor finals are full of specialists, vault is a good field for new gymnasts to especialize in.

  171. imperatorcarolus Says:

I suppose that Zsofia Kovacs will win gold, because Gadirova doesn’t look so sure, but it should be between them, with d’Amato in the mix. After them, the level goes down (unless there is a surprise), but if they hit, they should be on the podium.

  172. imperatorcarolus Says:

Chusovitina retired too soon (insert laughs), only for her D-score in the both vaults she used to do she could have won a medal today.

  173. imperatorcarolus Says:

Careful with Gadirova, she was not able to land her more difficult vault in warm-up, even when it was clear she was trying to practice it fully (she fell on the reception). Wish her the best.

  174. imperatorcarolus Says:

Aline Friess begins for France with a good vault of 5.4 value. A hope in the landing and she didn’t complete the last spin, but good vault. 13.966 for her first vault.

  175. imperatorcarolus Says:

Good Tsukahara for Aline’s second vault, with a 4.4. She increased difficulty in her first vault here, she did a 5.0 vault in quals. 13.599 as a final score for her after her two vaults. Good for her.

  176. imperatorcarolus Says:

Raz from Israel next. Not a good reception, she took her foot out of the podium, so she is going to have a deduction. She landed very low and she couldn’t do anything else to avoid falling. It was not a good vault, it was very low. She got a 13.333 for it.

Again, in the second vault, she had to take her foot out of the podium to stabilize herself. Again, not a great vault overall, it was low, and it was shown in the reception.

13.016 on average. And is generous.

  177. imperatorcarolus Says:

D’Amato in. Very good, although she opens her legs a little and flexed them ahead of time, but she wins with the comparision with the Israeli gymnast. 14.100 for her. They could have taken more, but they gave around a 8.4 for Raz’s two vaults, being them more problematics, so it is fair.

  178. imperatorcarolus Says:

ASIA IS HURT! She had a bad reception for her second vault (although she stayed on her feet) and then her coach came to take her away on his arms. She is crying a lot, I am so sorry for her.

  179. imperatorcarolus Says:

13.333 for her second vault. 13.716 on average. She qualified for all the rest finals.

  180. imperatorcarolus Says:

Gadirova in. Good first vault, although a huge jump back. Much better than in warm-ups, thankfully.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

A little short, but very good vault and reception. She should be ahead of Alice. She still doesn’t seem satisfied though, or maybe rattled by Asia’s injury, which wouldn’t be extrange, she is hearing Asia crying on the background. She did a 5.00 and 4.2 vaults, she has a more difficult one. I think she had difficulties and decided (rightly) not to do it. 13.433 for her and to the third place.

  181. imperatorcarolus Says:

They have Asia lying down and crying on the winners sofa. I hate those things so much, allow the girl some privacy!

  182. imperatorcarolus Says:

Georgieva from Bulgaria had a fall on her first vault and is crying too and holding her knee. What is happening today?!

  183. imperatorcarolus Says:

I can’t image what the rest of the gymnasts are feeling. I am a little rattled and I am at home…

  184. imperatorcarolus Says:

They are taking Georgieva out in a strechter. As far as I know, Asia is still on the couch (fortunately, another couch, just a steps behind the winner’s couch).

  185. imperatorcarolus Says:

Zsofia Kovacs is next, with the competition in pause to tend to Georgieva.

  186. imperatorcarolus Says:

They are tending Georgieva on the vault, despite having an strechter there, and the medics seems to be given her something. More than 15 minutes of wait now. I don’t mind them taking as long as they need to secure the gymnast (just a 16 years old, devastating), but I hope they give the gymnasts still waiting another go at the warm up, as they have been waiting a lot of time.

  187. imperatorcarolus Says:

They are letting them have another go to the warm ups and have revised the vault. It seems that they don’t make any changes, and were just making sure everything was all right.

  188. imperatorcarolus Says:

Zsofia in. Great first vault, very high in the air, very correct overall. 14.200, the highest score so far (and I think rightly so). Now, a 4.6 vault. Not as good as the first one, but very correct. The gold is going to be hers.

  189. imperatorcarolus Says:

Rasmussen from Finland, also a very young gymnast. Some dirty legs there, and a step back on the reception (but without major problems), but can be counted as a hit. I missed the second, sorry.

  190. imperatorcarolus Says:

Well, end of the final. Zsofia Kovacs wins gold, Asia d’Amato silver and Aline Freiss bronze. Belgian Lisa Vaelen missed bronze just for 0.016! Gadirova ends fifth.

  191. imperatorcarolus Says:

Asia can’t be on the podium. Her coach is on the podium, the one who had to take her on his arms out of the arena. I wish they could have one of her teammates to do it, the man seems very sad overall (understandbly, of course). But I think that her teammates are getting ready for the rest of the finals, as the Italy team got qualified for several of them.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

The man tried to be as elegant as he could, but clearly he was uncomfortable.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The coach is my “friend” Casella. It is not his fault for once, so I am not saying anything this time. I only point it out in case you want to put a face on him the next time I ramble about him.

  192. imperatorcarolus Says:

UB finals next. Let’s pray it is better than this vault one, my God.

  193. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is not official, but I very much doubt that Asia will be able to compete in the rest of the final, so the reserves are going to be called out to compete.

  194. imperatorcarolus Says:

I hope Kim Bui wins this shit. It would be epic.

  195. imperatorcarolus Says:

Everyone seems to be in a somber mood. Asia and Georgieva’s injuries seems to be on their minds. Georgieva’s injury seems to be especially bad, as they had to estabilize her, put her in an IV and tend to her on site for almost 20 minutes before taking her out of the arena.

  196. imperatorcarolus Says:

I suppose Alice is the one who is coming here instead of Asia, because Heduit was the first reserve, but there is already two italians (Giorgia and Alice) so I suppose Alice was two per countried before Asia’s injury.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

No, my mistake, because Alice has the highest score here. It is Villa who was two per countried.

  197. imperatorcarolus Says:

I don’t get why Kim Bui is first. They should put her last to get an ovation, as she deserves!!

  198. imperatorcarolus Says:

I would love for Villa to medal. Such a nice kid.

  199. imperatorcarolus Says:

    GO KIM, YOU ROCK!

  200. imperatorcarolus Says:

Very nice routine for Kim Bui, just a little of open legs and two little steps back in the dismount, but very good. Also, a little more difficult than in quals.

  201. imperatorcarolus Says:

She is received an ovation nevertheless (as she deserves) but that is why she should have come last, for her to enjoy her ovation as long as she could or wanted, without making anyone wait.

  202. imperatorcarolus Says:

Villa in. Very fluid, very elegant. Just little things. It should be a little less than in quals, but very good.

  203. imperatorcarolus Says:

Giorgia transmits joy all the time. I want tons of medals for her from now to eternity.

  204. imperatorcarolus Says:

Alice did great. She should get first. Alice is not happy, normal after what happened to Asia, but I think Kim and Giorgia are trying to feed off the mascot and making it leave her alone. 14.400 for Alice, great exercise.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Feed off the mascot politely, I mean, making it focus on them instead on Alice to allow her some quiet time.

  205. imperatorcarolus Says:

Mae Fenton in. She had the least D-score, but she has a more difficult routine she didn’t compete on quals. This should be higher. Good job for her.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Ouch, she touched the low bar with both feet. I didn’t get that. She is going to have a penalization for that. 13.633 for her.

  206. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, Naomi Visser in. She double the legs on the transitions to the low bar and touches the floor, so she is going to have some deductions. The rest was okay.

  207. imperatorcarolus Says:

Missed Kinsella’s routine, but in replays she had to stop, and then fell on the dismount, so she is going to have a low score.

  208. imperatorcarolus Says:

Lorette Charpy in. Nice exercise, but she gets injuried on the dismount.

  209. imperatorcarolus Says:

THE ARENA IS CURSED! STOP THIS FUCKING COMPETITION!

  210. imperatorcarolus Says:

Eli Seitz on. Nice exercise, but I don’t want her to bump Giorgia out of the podium, sorry.

  211. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Lorette seems better, thankfully.

  212. imperatorcarolus Says:

14.433 for Seitz, gold for her. Alice d’Amato is silver, and Lorette is bronze.

  213. imperatorcarolus Says:

They don’t let me post links, unfortunately. I suppose wordpress is saying “You have post hundreds of messages in this thread already, shut up and leave this good people alone”.

  214. imperatorcarolus Says:

Just two events to go, just two events to go…It is the first time I want a competition to end, but given how things are going, I am worried of the injuries that can be ocurred on beam and floor and Villa and the Gadirovas are on those finals!

  215. imperatorcarolus Says:

Lorette is on the podium, so she can stand. I hope is nothing serious.

    • brooklyngirl84 Says:

The way Charpy went down was scary. She collapsed sideways in a completely straight line. Her body didn’t buckle at all.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yeah. I am glad she wasn’t worse. She had a big injury (ACL torn, I think) around the Olympics and couldn’t go, and had a relapse months after her comeback, so I suppose she was also scared that something went wrong. Worlds are in around two months and a little, so if someone gets injuried now, they have little time to compose themselves before that meet, and it is very important to qualify for Olympics at her home. I think she went straight to avoid putting preassure in the injury even for an instant more than necessary, but that is just a theory on my part.

  216. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, beam final is about to start. Circle of prayers that nobody gets hurt.

  217. imperatorcarolus Says:

Alba Petisco is in this final. That of all the finals, a Spanish is on beam final is almost unheard of since Elena’s days.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

In beam anything can happen. We have seen finals where the person who won was the only one who stayed in, so good luck, Alba!

  218. imperatorcarolus Says:

Martina Maggio substitutes Asia on beam, as she was two per countried.

  219. imperatorcarolus Says:

Pauline comes out to the presentation with a face like: Here is the boss, this is my gig!

  220. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ana Barbosu has the highest score. Like lately with Romania, I am between wanting her to medal, because she is great and she is not at fault at all, and wanting for Romania to go home without medals so they can’t use them as a justification, once more, to not make any changes to their program.

  221. imperatorcarolus Says:

Giorgia in, with a fall. Damn i! She really floats on beam. The rest was very good, it is a pity. I hope she can stay healthy for Worlds and go for the AA.

  222. imperatorcarolus Says:

Matina Maggio in. Nice overall, only minor check. Not very floaty, but very sure until the end when she had a huge wooble that is going to be like a fall. She was doing so good!

  223. imperatorcarolus Says:

Emma in. I don’t know why she didn’t do floor on team final, I hope she is okay. Hit routine for her. Beam is not her best apparatus, she had a check and missed a connection, but is a very good routine for the level she has right now. She is also very young and has room to improve.

  224. imperatorcarolus Says:

Barbosu in. Huge wooble just at the start and then she fells in the acro series. She missed a connection as well. She seems very unsettled after the fall, checking herself a lot. Nice dismount, though. So very sorry for her (not for Romania. You need to make changes people!).

  225. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Alba in. Good luck, Alba!

  226. imperatorcarolus Says:

She falls at the begging, so all her options to take advantage to the other’s falls are out.

  227. imperatorcarolus Says:

Heduit in. I think she stopped the connection of the series. Little wooble and check, but she holds on. She stayed on, so she is going to get on the podium (for now, because Pauline and Ondine are still to go).

  228. imperatorcarolus Says:

Emma is going to medal in any case and she can’t believe it, lol.

  229. imperatorcarolus Says:

Pauline stumbles right at the beginning, when she got in, so she is going to miss a connection. The rest was very good. I think that she second guessed herself and began again, but she didn’t begin any element just yet, so I don’t think there is anything to deduct there.

  230. imperatorcarolus Says:

Ondine in. Nice, paced…very secure, although I think she needs more rythm. She should go before Martina.

  231. imperatorcarolus Says:

My girl Ondine got silver! Great!

  232. imperatorcarolus Says:

So Emma gets gold (she can’t believe it) with the cleanest exercise, Ondine gets silver and Heduit bronze.

  233. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Nobody injuried here, thank God.

  234. imperatorcarolus Says:

Floor final is about to start. It is Gadirovas’ time. Lets see if they are luckier this time around.

  235. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andreoli is also in the house. I hope she can show her power on floor here, as she was not called for team final (despite being in an individual final. See what I mean when I told you that Casella was channeling his inner Martha with her?)

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

She substitutes Alice, but she was two per countried for very little, it is still a punishment because they put someone on floor who had achieved a lower score.

  236. imperatorcarolus Says:

Very nice routine for Martina. I think she even had a better execution than in quals, but the judges then to be more strict on event finals. But she had the highest score on the final nonetheless.

  237. imperatorcarolus Says:

Barbosu in. Love her music. Very nice! She did great! If she could add some difficulty in the future, it is a beautiful exercise. She is going to have a high E-score as well.

  238. imperatorcarolus Says:

Nice exercise for Visser, except for the reception in the last pass, but good work for Naomi.

  239. imperatorcarolus Says:

Zsofia Kovacs in. Her first two passes were great, but she had a fall in the third one that is going to kept her from medals. 12.533

  240. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jennifer Gadirova in. Super powerful first pass. Super fun routine, love it. She did very well.

  241. imperatorcarolus Says:

Morgan in. Very powerful first pass, although she stumbled a little. I think she went out of bounds in the second pass. She is still very young, with room to improve.

  242. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is reported (still unofficially) that Asia had broken her ankle. It this is confirmed, she won’t be able to go to worlds.

  243. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andreoli in. Show Casella, show him!

  244. imperatorcarolus Says:

Wonderful routine for Andreoli! She completely stuck at least two passes!

  245. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jessica did very well. I think there was something missing, but I really don’t know what it was (if any). Anyways, she gets gold with 14.000

  246. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jessica wins gold, followed by Martina Maggio and Andreoli.

  247. imperatorcarolus Says:

Italy wins also the medal account.

  248. gymtruthteller Says:

Hey Rocio, I thought your girl Ondine should have won beam. She had more difficulty , and anyone taht dismunts with a freaking lay out has no business winning a gold medal at Europeans. i also think Maggio should have won floor over Jessica (who you know I love) I could have sworn Jennifer (Gadirova) had a 5.6 start value in prelims but she only got a 5.3 in EF. She must have missed some dance. I also think Andreoli (sp) had a case for gold on floor too. Her last pass might have taken her out of it.

    • brooklyngirl84 Says:

Agreed! I thought Andreoli was going to get gold on floor. There was definitely some gifts given today.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

If I remember correctly, Andreoli, Martina and Jessica had the same start value on D-score (5.7). I read somewhere that Andreoli got 5.8, but in the stream it was said the three of them had the same, and Martina and Jenn had 5.7, so I am not really sure. Andreoli is a great floor worker, that was why I was pissed when Casella didn’t use her in team final, opting for someone who had a lower start value just because. Same with beam. I think thhat Jessica had a little gift there, because Martina and Angela’s execution, in my opinion, was better than hers. But it came to a 0.077 with Martina, so we are picking straws here. I do think that Martina going first was bad for her, as they gave Jenn 8.300 on E score and Martina 8.233. And I would have made a reclamation on Andreoli, because 8.066 without major mistakes and two stuck passes seems very low.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

I think they were too harsh on Ondine, because a 7.9 with a hit routine is way too harsh. Emma had a good day, but it is not her greatest event. About the dismount, Germany in the last few years goes very easy on the dismount, I think to secure the landing as a common strategy, because Pauline and Kim also had super easy dismounts, and place the difficulty elsewhere. I think of the main team, only Sarah Voss, which is the current German AA champion, does a more difficult dismount.

  249. brooklyngirl84 Says:

The squirrel mascot was so cringeworthy today lol. He was literally up Kim Bui’s ass on the couch… trying to get her to clap and amp up the crowd with him.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

He (it?) tried to lift spirits, but mascots can come across very cringeworthy sometimes. Villa and Kim were trying to keep him apart from Alice at the UB finals, as she was (understandbly) very upset after what happened to Asia and was not in the mood. I wonder if the person inside it was an ex gymnast or someone with gymnastic formation, as I have seen on twitter a clip of the mascot doing a vault successfully before the competition began. It was an “easy” vault, but given that my ass would fall in the minute one and that moving with that costume couldn’t be easy, I have been wondering about it.

  250. imperatorcarolus Says:

If I remember correctly, Andreoli, Martina and Jessica had the same start value on D-score (5.7).
