Russian Cup results [Day one] In Russian [Day 2 and Overall]

AA: 1. Melnikova 2. Vladislava Urazova 3. Minaeva

Event Finals

Vault : 1. Melnikova 2. Alina Shklokova 3. Eleonora Afanasyeva

Balance Beam: [Video] 1. Yana Vorona 2. Melnikova 14.100 3. Zubova

Floor: 1. Melnikova 2. Maria Agafonova 3. Maria Minaeva

Qualifications

Pretty much a complete mess. Melnikova who leads fell on beam then off beam (dismount) and still got a 13.266 which means you can tell how badly the judges favored her. She almost fell twice on floor too.

  1. Angelina Melnikova 2. Vlada Urasova 3. Maria Minaeva [VT] [UB] [BB] [FL] 4. Maria Agafonova 5. Elena Gerasimova. [VT] [UB] [BB] [FL] 6. Alyona Glotova [VT] [UB] [BB] [FL] 7. Arina Semukhina [VT] [UB] [BB] [FL] 8. Yana Vorona [VT] [UB] [BB] [FL] Others: Listunova [Bars]

Pan Am Team [USAG Article]

Senior: Dicello, Skye Blakely, Zoe Miller, Elle Mueller, Lexie Zeiss Alt; Addison Fatta

Junior: Tiana Sumanasekera, Zoey Molomo, Alicia Zhou, Dulcy Caylor Alt: Audrey Snyder

And now, The US named their Pan Am team and some fishy conclusions went on there too. Kayla Dicello only got in the 12’s on vault and in the 11’s on beam, finishing 7th yet still made the team over Addison Fatta who finished 3rd on Day one and 5th on day 2. Kayla was first on day 2 but with unimpressive scores. Why even pretend the results decided the team?

It’s going to suck for all these girls if the Olympians come back and get unfairly favored because none of them will have a shot at making the Olympic team. Suni and Jade will be put on the team if they show up. That leaves 3 spots. Of the juniors, Tiana Sumanasekera seems to have the best scores internationally to place her on the Olympic team if she stays healthy. Skye has a great beam. Miller has a high start value on bars (though gross nasty form) Plus someone will sneak up the rankings we never heard of. Don’t count out Leanne. No one has been great so far. Should be interesting. This is the gap year where gymnasts who do well are usually out of it in two years time.

I forgot to mention yesterday that my girl Ondine made the british team! When she rocks Europeans, don’t forget I called it when she was still a junior!

  2. Lauren Says:

I dread the thought in my head of Listy becoming the new
Komova. Viktoria won a silver AA medal but she never lived up to the talent she had.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

I struggle with that concept, as I consider Komova’s carreer as very successful. Despite what we can theorize about her potential talent, I could never consider a AA silver medal (which I still think should be gold, but we are not going to talk about that again ten years later) and another Olympic silver in teams, as well as several Wold Championship golds as never living up for her talent, especially considering how strong USA was at that time. I would have also liked to see her much more, but she had a great carreer taking into account her injuries. I despair more for Eremina, that only had one senior year before having an injury so important that took her out of elite forever. But Komova had a longer run, and much more success than many gymnasts with potential could dream of having.

  3. imperatorcarolus Says:

Gerasimova got injuried and withdrew from Russian Cup Day Two. I have to stop having favourites. I jinx them. If I stop liking Trinity Thomas so much, maybe she will come back to elite…

  4. imperatorcarolus Says:

Heduit wins French Nationals, followed by Friess. I don’t know what is going on with Melanie and the French Federation, only that she is not training in France and is in America, which is something extremely weird in connection with such a centralistic federation as the French one.

  5. imperatorcarolus Says:

Minaeva’s UB. Minaeva is one of the favourites of the new seniors. I think Valentina’s dream team for this year would have been Melnikova, Listy, Vlada and Minaeva. With Listy and Gera out of commission, maybe Vorona (but not sure).

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Minaeva’s form is gross. I actually like this kid but she’s the anti Russian when it comes to form. She needs to fix it

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She is young, she has time. We will see, but she has potential (if she doesn’t get injuried, of course). She is also deeply favoured by Valentina, which is important to have a long life at the Russian federation.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The only gymnast from Russia I have ever seen turn their form around is Komova. I don’t hold out hope for Minaeva.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I won’t kill you 🙂 She’s gotten better but not by much, IMO or course. Komova is the only one I think really cleaned up the form especially with the leg separations.

  6. imperatorcarolus Says:

Tretyanova’s bars. She has to improve in fluidity and correction, especially on the legs, but she is a 2022 senior, so if she can clean up her act with this initial performance, Russia has another good UB worker on ther hands. And it is refreshing not to see just another variaton on Aliya’s routine. That shit is getting old fast. I understand it works for them and giving them high scores, but from the point of view of the espectator, I am getting really tired of it.

  7. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Bad time to peak, girls.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Do you know who won beam and floor medals? I see some routines but no mention of who actually won them

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yes, I will look it up for you 🙂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Thank you.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Ok, on beam Yara Vorona won, followed by Melna and if my cirilic doesn’t fail me, Varvara Zubova. Russiagymstan said that everyone who stayed on beam medalled, so a classic.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

For Floor, it was Melna, followed by Maria Agafonova, and Maria Minaeva. I don’t like Melna’s new music, especially the beginning, but she is doing very well, and much better here than in day one.

  8. HartofDixie Says:

I don’t know any of the new girls.

    • Gymnerd Says:

Nor do I. I recognize a name or two from last year’s Trials – that’s it. I’m glad not to be the only one who thought DiCello making the team over Fatta was odd. They probably just didn’t like Fatta’s last name.

  9. Gianna Says:

Angelina is ridiculously overscored in Russia.

  10. HartofDixie Says:

Olympic channel feature US Sydney team.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Why would anyone want to watch that, lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Oh, I am going to put it on YouTube while I work. Mostly to shout at Romania: “See? You already had these problems 22 effing years ago and didn’t solve them! While you were winning! Don´t you dare to blame the gymnasts for your effing institutional problems!!”

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The vibe they gave me was it was just about the US team. Either way, that entire generation of US gymnasts were self entitled brats.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The BBC replay shows the rest of the teams. Spain was there, too (oh, memories…) and I think the NBC replay showed Australia, Romania and Russia at least. I understand that the country’s own channel is going to focus on their team, but they really needed to cut off the fluff pieces.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Still, they already knew they had problems with UB and adapting to new codes. In 2000. 22 freaking years ago. And still Romania went all Pikachu face when they began to loose.
