The, Me, myself and I, 2021 Women’s, Olympic AA. My quick thoughts

The, Me Myself and I, women’s 2021 Olympic AA is ready for you to discuss. Drink that Vitamin C kids.

[Live Results] [Main Coverage] [4 events at once] [BBS Schedule I keep getting my links from:) [Full Results of the Olympics) [Start Lists]

IMO: The only thing I truly want when watching gymnastics is fair judging. We did not get that in the 2021 Olympic All Around final. The Floor judges especially were not judging Vladislava Urazova the same way they judged, Suni, Angelina, and Rebeca. All 4 had messy landings. Angelina had issues with her wolf turn. Rebeca stepped OOB two times (one with 2 feet) Suni wasn’t perfect. The only one of them who was scored fairly was Vladislava Urazova. Jade Carey didn’t come into play medal wise but she stepped OOB and had hops on her landings she didn’t have in the prelims and still got one of the highest Floor scores of the meet. The Uneven bar judges didn’t judge all the leg separations by Suni the way they judged Vladislava Urazova who had a great routine. They didn’t even notice the out of control pak. The beam judges were not watching the same routines we were watching. Urazova was close to perfect as she could have been. Suni had 3 bobbles including a significant one on her wolf turn to start the routine. Rebeca had a great routine too(Though I need to watch this again to judge it fairly) Mail Murakami hit all 4 events today with some of the best routines she has done. She wasn’t judged with the same eyes these judges scored everyone else.

Suni is American so no one will complain which means NBC will celebrate this win and never discuss what happened. Hell, Shannon Miller was American and only Tim Dagget gave a care in the world about that. That predated Nancy Kerrigan hysteria (She should have had gold also)

ALL I asked for was fair judging. If you can watch Vladislava Urazova and Suni on beam and think the routines they did were only within 4 tenths of each other or watch floor and not see the landing deductions and come to the conclusion Suni deserved to win, we weren’t watching the same competition.

I have been a huge defender of Suni since she was a junior. I saw her potential and if she had done her prelims beam and bars in the All Around I wouldn’t be saying a word. She didn’t do that.

Thanks for listening:) P.S.-

Will Simone compete? (Nope. Simone is out) Can Suni hit beam, 3 competitions in a row? Will Angelina rack up all the Gold medals? And for the love of GOD, Will MAI FINALLY BE SCORED FAIRLY by these asshat judges? Will Andrade be the judge’s favorite again with a totally overscored beam routine? Will Listunova replace Urazova? Will Urazova shut me up for even suggesting that? Will we get a Gadirova twins duo on the Podium? Can China step up and remember they are beam hit machines? Will Ellie Black remember she almost won an AA medal in 2019? (Nope. Ellie is out) Will Melanie De Jesus live up to the hype? Will Nina Derwael Nastia her way to an AA medal? (And by that I mean a big bar start value and overscoring:) Who did I miss? Not sure about blogging Tuesday in the AM but we will see.

Who do you have? I’m going Simone, Suni, Mai/Angelina with no way to break the tie so they both get a medal. I’m never right by the way 🙂

Shannon Miller making the rounds on the news channels CNBC, TDT and Huckabee. The first 2 are about Simone.

Unpopular opinion: Simone is out because she knows she doesn’t have it anymore and she doesn’t want to lose. Now, she is the martyr instead of the most decorated. Michael Phelps is the best Olympian of all time and best he could get is an NBC gig after winning a gazillion medals. Olympians have a shelf life. Gabby isn’t even in commercials anymore. Olympians have shelf lives. Best of luck to Simone dealing with her demons.

________

Me keeping track for future reference

AA

Mai did the DTY. Start values [5.4 – 5.9 5.8 – 5.9] Vault score whacked all Olympics for top group esp Jade. Cheng’s for Andrade and Carey. DTY’s for rest. Jade most overscored.

Bars: Mai 5.9 7.833 (13.733) Andrade 6.3 8.366 (14.666) Carey 5.5 8.000 (13.500) Urazova 6.3 8.566 (14.866) Melnikova 6.3 8.600 14.900 Suni 6.8 8.500 (15.300)

Beam: Mai 5.9 7.966 (13.766) Urazova 5.9 8.300,(14.200) Melnikova 5.4 8.300, (13.700) Suni 6.1 7.733 (13.833) Rebeca 5.7 7.996 (13.633) Carey 5.1 with 6.443 (fall or would have been 7.443)

Floor: Mai 5.9 8.100 (14.000) Urazova 5.100 8.300 (13.400) 5.7 8.266 13.966 Suni 5.6 8.100 (13.700) Rebeca Andrade 5.9 8.166 13.666 ( 4 tenths OOB) Carey 6.3 7.766 (13.966) 1 Ooob

Jade’s execution vs Mai is blatant cheating especially bars and beam and even floor. Andrade was grossly overscored on floor but her bars and beam were also underscored. Sun’s biggest gift was execution on bars and score overall on beam. Urazova underscored compared to every bars on. Floor scores were high for all with their landing issues especially Andrade EXCEPT Urazova who was deducted way more harshly than anyone else.

All around judges. Explains the floor results in the AA.

  1. Aki Says:

This opens the door slightly to Mykayla Skinner for the Vault finals. Mental issues don’t go away in a few days SO IMO, if simone’s claims about withdrawing from AA due to mental issues is true, then she won’t be medically/mentally ready for any of the individual events. So will this door open for Mykayla??
I also believe i smell ALOT of propaganda to come.

    • JAS4 Says:

If Simone is indeed having mental issues along with twisting and spotting issues then she should stay away from VT for safety. I would love to see Mykayla get the chance to compete, but I just can’t help feeling like Simone will all of the sudden have a big turn around and want to compete on Vault.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The twisties sounds like something a toddler would say. Gymnastics needs a new name.

I think the real reason she is out is because she can’t get the gymnastics to work. Suni beating her on day 2 of trials messed with her ego.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I’ve gotta go take a shower. My friend will be here in like , shit, a half hour. I better go.

        See you in the am

      • gymtruthteller Says:

NO. Skinner is still here for a reason. I cannot hear you though you’re probably right.

I can feel Simone coming back for at least 1 more event. If she wants to be the best ever she needs that one Medal to tie Miller.

Interesting the one event she would be safest on is beam and Chenchen beat her there.

      • JAS4 Says:

        See you then!
P.S. I originally heard the twisties on an episode of make it or break it…..so I don’t know if the got the name from the show or if the show got it’s name from actual gymnast lol I just saw people calling it that on Twitter too lol

  2. Aki Says:

I can hear Tim Daggett crying all the way from Tokyo (or wherever he is).

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Nastia is probably just happy she doesn’t have to compete with Simone for attention.lol

      • JAS4 Says:

Is she still dressing like a citizen of the capital from the hunger games?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL, I’ve gotta go. Stop keeping me here with great thoughts.lol I don’t know, Thanks to NBC’s live video I haven’t turned on NBC even once 🙂

      • Maswid Says:

She still has to compete with Simone for attention, now it’s just a different type of attention.

      • JAS4 Says:

I don’t know if anyone could compete with Simone for attention at the moment.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

For real. She is the first page of one of the most important non-sport newspapers in Spain (El Pais). No gymnast has ever made the first page of a non sport centered newspaper ever, not even when Spain won medals (the few we have).

  3. The Slammer Says:

Nina better watch out . They can now give Suni gold on bars and not alienate the rest of the world by having the United States win all the gold medals.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      LOL. That is so true.

    • HartofDixie Says:

Very true If Simone wasn’t having issues she could very well claim 4-5 golds and I don’t think they wanted all the golds to go to USA. But Suni and Nina got the same bar score in team final. It may depend on start order.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I thought they had a set EF starting list so like whoever qualified 1st is positioned in a certain place and who ever finished 4th in a specific place. That is how they used to do it.

  4. imperatorcarolus Says:

May I say, as respectfully as possible, that I think Arthur Dalaloyan is the hottest man in the whole competition?

    • Ota Says:

I agree!! I consider Russian men rarely very good looking so to see him was a surprise. I read he is half Armenian, half Moldovian. I gotta go there sometimes, haha.
And thanks for welcoming me in comments on the previous entry!

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

A pleasure! I hope you enjoy the blog. GTT is the boss, I am just the burden she has to carry to atone for a past life’s sins.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL. Is that what you are. Actually in spite of the fact we don’t always agree you are one of my favorite people. I often wondered why that Spanish gymnastics board you told me about used to show up on my stat thing Turns out it was you. I never signed up for the board but I almost did just to see why this place kept lnking to my board. That is what makes me laugh. People don’t realize every time they bad mouth me and provide a link to this blog I get the link and can check what was being said. Most of the time I just laugh and say, IG is talking shit again or GGMB. I don’t search it just shows up.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Oh, thank you! That is so nice to hear! You are one of my favourite people, too, one day we have to meet. The blog you might refer to is dobleenplacha, the main blog I follow in Spanish. They have nice information (and schedules updates to my timezone), but I rarely post there unless to thank them for the infomartion. I enjoy being here much more. But they are nice people and give good information on European gymnastics. IG I know. Who are those GGMB people?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

GGMB is pretty much dead now. It’s was the place that crazy guy Abomb used to ban anyone he disagreed with.

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

I dated a Russian briefly in HS (6 months – this was a ways back). I was only 16, he was my first “real” boyfriend. He moved here after 1991 as the country was obviously changing and his father lost his job. He was (IMO) very good looking. Very quiet, he was so smart and so interesting. He would always say, “why you want to know so much about my country (before I was a gym fan). I just found everything he told me mind boggling. He was my history teacher in a lot of ways (again I was only 16) We still send emails every once in a while. Sorry, I know it is OT but I think of him whenever I hear about Russian gymnasts.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Not with the mustache. (He is cute though)

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah I’m not into facial hair lol my husband keeps saying he should grow a gotee or beard and I’m like how about NO! Lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Tell him you said no and that is that 🙂

        I hate facial hair too.

      • JAS4 Says:

I told him it has more germs than a toilet seat and that seems to have deterred him from the facial hair for now. 😂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        LOL. Smart idea

    • gymtruthteller Says:

And thinking someone is cute or pretty doesn’t make you any kind of sexist. Not at this blog.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

We have rarely say anything about that kind of stuff (I think I mentioned once James Bond’s cute behind long time ago in other context, though) so I didn’t want to make anyone unconfortable or be overly crass. But I wanted to mention him, I hope they give him the elegance prize this year (there is one at Olympics, not the Longines, but other, if I remember correctly).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

This blog doesn’t believe in sexism. You know what I did once when I was whistled at by a construction guy? I bowed like you would for the Queen and walked by. He laughed.

If a man wants make a sexist joke I make one back. Woman need to stop whining and take back their lives. A work situation is different, you tell the person to stop and after 2 or 2 times he doesn’t you report his ass but I don’t believe in whining like a baby when someone says something sexist (World is over sensitive these days) Embarrass him. Be the person in control. He won’t do it again.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Didn’t were the James Bond comments clue you in about the fact that I am a girl? I remember you all used to think I was a boy for years given my name, lol.

  5. Maswid Says:

Here are my thoughts after getting some sleep and waking up to the news that Simone pulled out of AA. I still am taking the cynical side and saying she’s doing to for attention, although admittedly I know nothing about “twisties”. It sounds real enough, but when was the last time you heard of an elite gymnast in the Olympics doing that? Someone can correct me on this, it seems like something that could happen to people still learning, but she’s been competing relatively the same skills for the better part of a decade. It’s seems unlikely you would lose it literally overnight while at the Olympics. I think she knew she was on a downward trajectory and this was her way out, while still maintaining her GOAT status she bestowed on herself.
On the other hand, perhaps she is really having mental issues, but I think a lot of them were either partly or entirely brought on by herself. People are talking about how she is the face of the Olympics and everybody expects her to win and how much pressure that is for her. She herself perpetuated that repeatedly. The rhinestone goat, the literal goat in the gym, the tv series she did, the interviews where she declared herself “unbeatable”. If people had high expectations of her it’s because she told them to. She had no problems accepting endorsements based on her GOAT status, but then when she gets to the Olympics it’s “too much pressure”? Not buying it. Also, people want to blame to media for this, but she has no issues using the media to promote the idea that that aren’t scoring her fairly because she’s “too good”. She can’t have it both ways. They way I see it she wants to have her cake and eat it too. She wants to take advantage of the media when it’s in her favor but blame them when she can’t back up what she says.

Side note: if I see any more comments about how she was told that “they were going to score her differently” because she’s “too good” I’m going to scream. Where the hell to people get this crap?

    • monicakelly7488 Says:

Unpopular opinion, I think she knows that the 8 yrs of her being on top is over. Does she have the difficulty? Yes we all know that. She does not like how close gymnasts are getting to her. As she keeps coming up with great skills they push back. I find it selfish and gross if she competes in any of the remaining finals. She screwed up the vault. Figured they would get silver and did not want to be ashamed because had she hit they would have been ahead of the Russians. I am not evil, but something about this whole thing is fishy. Also, what a slap in the face to the gymnasts that wanted that spot. Why is McKayla not competing if she does not do vault I am so confused. This Olympics is a dumpster fire and what sucks is all the gymnasts that do medal will be overshadowed (STILL) by Simones health issues. Even for the Russian WAG team no one internationally is giving them much attention or the historic bronze and dog fight GB put in to get that Bronze. It makes me sick. Rant over, sorry.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree 100% this was about her ego. It started back when Suni beat her on day 2 of trials. I think she realized then that falling 2 times was not going to get her gold and when she didn’t fall in prelims and just made two mistakes and only had a 7 tenth lead it freaked her out and she hasn’t been able to handle it. That isn’t a mental issue it’s an ego issue.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Where did you read the score her differently because she’s too good BS.lol

The Twisties are a gymnastics issue. She’s having a gymnastics mental block. Weird that it took her second Olympics and 6 World Championships that she dominated to have this issue but it happens.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

There are a lot of comments related to the D-score given to her new vaults that connects the issue to “not wanting to see her success” and “devaluating her accomplishments because they are pissed and frustrated by her”. There has been lots of comments in that regard since she presented her new vault. It has been coming up also now, with people saying things like “Well, what do you expect, if they wouldn’t even score her fairly?” Simone feed that kind of narrative in the past, she was openly frustrated with the value given to the new vault and pointed out publicly about how unfair she found it, so it has come up quite often in different moments in the past year.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is because Simone told the NY times the vault was undervalued and they were trying to take things away from her. Simone made this an issue and the media ran with it.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yeah, but it keeps coming up even when a lot of especialized media has explaining why it was. It just get tiring, especially in the current circumnstances. That vault, as right now, doesn’t really exist for the code, as Simone hasn’t presented it and if she finally retires from event finals and leaves the sport (she had hinted to wanting to retire after Tokyo, although she said the same after Rio), that vault would never be included under Simone’s name.

  6. imperatorcarolus Says:

Look at that comment about Daiki (Mens new Olympic AA champion). Do you think other federations are using the Olympic results as a kind of first test for Worlds? Granted, Worlds are very close in gymnastics terms, as it is in October and it is probable that, for logistic uses, the team had to be submitted at the end of september/first days of october at the latest. If they want to give the gymnasts some break, especially regarding those teams that competed finals, they won’t have too much time to decide:

  7. Case Says:

I agree with your unpopular opinion, GTT. An element of this Simone thing definitely seems orchestrated. Perhaps she’s adding a dash of notoriety to her popularity in an effort to be forever remembered.

Also from the pull yourself up by your bootstraps era here and I think Americans lost their damn minds during the pandemic and the impacts of that are resonating all over the place.

  8. Maswid Says:

Did you all see what Simone posted in her Instagram stories? It seems so odd to me – if she is super stressed and having issues it seems odd that she would be reposting things in social media of people defending her. Also the pictures of her smiling like nothing happened and her pictures with Jordan after the medal ceremony, giving interviews, etc. The length she is going to to defend herself…I don’t know, it seems to me like she’s going over the top trying to convince people.

  9. imperatorcarolus Says:

Russian team, Roxi Popa and the Gadirovas are my favorite gym people right now:

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I almost teared up when Melnikova was crying after her floor routine. These kids knew they were coming into this Olympics with no chance of winning a gold medal. None of them were winning bars and they were all over the place on beam so I’m sure they thought that wasn’t happening and then they beat the US in prelims and they rised to the occasion.

Vault and Floor were owned by Simone and maybe even if she fell on floor (Apparently skills can only occur 8 tenths in deductions no matter what which means even if she had just stepped OOB with both feet she was getting the best floor score. And now we will see how everyone competes because it’s all about the gold.

Sadly to me it feels like jade will win gold on vault even if she falls. Nina and Suni are going head to head for bars ( I wouldn’t be surprised to see them tie and whoever has the lower start value wins the tie breaker and then Nastia and Suni can whine together about how they were robbed.

If Chenchen hits she is owning the beam gold and the prelim judges want Ferrari to win but I think they switch them up so we have no clue who the new set of judges will like. Jade was near perfect in prelims minus the leaps which I doubt she can fix by next week doesn’t mean they want over score her but they can take the entire artistry deduction off of her if they like.

AA is wide open. I think if Suni does her team DTY and hits beam she will win. I WANT MAI TO WIN but I saw Andrade’s beam and if she gets a 13.7 anything again it’s blatant cheating. Melnikova has been scored very freely on bars.

Alice Kinsells on the ground with her hands over her face after she hit her last event after what she went through with the Becky fans was heartbreaking to watch. Simone thinks she had haters try dealing with what Alice went through. People were wishing for injuries against that poor girl

    • HartofDixie Says:

I watched the team final again via NBC and was so mad that they didn’t bother showing 1 routine from GB nor the moment they realized they won bronze (we only saw USA and ROC).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

All they showed all night was Russia and the US? That is below average coverage for them.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

In the international stream, they usually show more routines of the “strong group”, but switch quite often with the rest. They showed a lot of Japan and China, with some of France and GB. But as the competition progresses, they focus more and more on the people fighting for medals. In the last rotation, they switched between floor with USA and Russia, and beam with Italy and Japan, who it was believed were fighting for bronze. No one, even the commentators, were aware that GB was a possibility, so they didn’t showed anything from them in the last rotation. The spectators were aware that they won only when everything had already ended!

  10. HartofDixie Says:
    • JAS4 Says:

If this is the case she should definitely pull out of VT for safety and if it is affecting her other events she should stay away from those as well.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

This is called a gymnastics mental block. It is not a psychological issue in the medical sense.

IMO she saw that one mistake could mean she doesn’t win gold and she doesn’t want to compete because of it. She’s a perfectionist. When things don’t work out for any person they get frustrated and figure it out. Simone gets mad at herself when she doesn’t hit. Jordan fell twice off beam, cried it out and then was dancing on the sidelines.

Why doesn’t 24 year old Simone Biles have some kind of coping mechanism for dealing with things? She wasn’t always the best gymnast on the planet. Go watch her as a junior. She handled it then. Sure kids can cope with things easier but the thing that I used to calm myself down as a child, I still use a version of today.

This is why I think this is more about her ego than anything else.

      • Aki Says:

I would not call Simone a perfectionist by any means…if she was then shed fix those damn landings. Nastia and Aly Raisman are more perfectionists than Simone is.
Simone is a winnerholic. If she wins by default she is happy. Not because she actually deserved it or not. A perfectionist would make improvements to their biggest errors, not just add on difficulty to rack up points.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What I mean by perfectionist is no big mistakes. Simone never jumped and acted happy when she messed up that I could remember. Maybe in the US when she knew she would win anyway.

  11. Ota Says:

Do you know if US athletes get some money for getting a medal at the Olympics? In my country they do, I know that in Russia gymnasts will be welcomed as kings and queens. I think that the last time they got expensive cars and a lot of money?
Simone has a luxury of not having to worry about money.

    • Case Says:

In the USA they do get a monetary reward, and while it’s a nice prize it’s not life changing money and certainly not worth the effort it takes to earn the medal. It’s $37,500 for gold, $22,000 for silver and $15,000 for bronze and I’m not sure if amateurs can even accept it.

    • monicakelly7488 Says:

The Russians did not get a lot of money, If 20k and a car is a lot of money to a young one, I get it. Russia/USA they do well. In the US you become an instant millionaire with endorsements and prize money. (Douglas, Retton, Liukin, Biles, Patterson. Weiber, Moucheanu, Dawes, Hernandez, Maroney, Memmel, Johnson, Raisman, Sacramone, etc, etc as well. Once a US athlete goes pro they can not get free tuition to college. However, the ones that do the best in their peak elite years always go pro for financial reasons.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Mykayla Skinner did a video where she googled her name and talked about what came up. She lauged when it said she was a millionaire.

They don’t make as much as you think they do.

Retton was huge because the Olympics happened in LA and she won. Johnson makes youtube videos which could make some money but I seriously doubt they have millions.

Memmel works at a gym. Liukin dressed up for Instagram and starts failed companies. Aly does nothing, apparently. Douglas is making commercials for companies I never heard of and charging $900.00 for a 1 minutes video. (Not quite sure she would be doing this while supporting her entire family of 5 or 6.

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

I had no idea. I do not understand why they would forfeit a free college tuition for basically nothing. I know Gabby and Simone do well (book deal for Simone will be insane) I was under the impression Johnson and Luikin make good money (Liukin for NBC and Johnson for….youtube? Maroney did sell for a couple years and now is an All state insurance commercial rep, it is a funny commercial. Simone is obviously the most well paid. Though who knows what she gets paid. Regardless. I think that comparing what the Russians get to the US is moot as our currency and lives are so different.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

From what my niece tells me you can make millions on youtube so Shawn could have some money. Where the hell has Shawn been anyway? Not a social media complaint from the people who send me this stuff. I know she had the baby recently but she has been really quiet.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I don’t know more than what you tell me regarding USA, but in Russia is matter of national pride and they get a lot for a gold medal, not so much in cash terms, but also in other benefits. They usually give the medalist a flat of their own, as well as important gifts as cars and some money. Someone said on Twitter that Melna will have to sell her current flat, the one awarded to her for her silver medal at Rio, because it is expected she will get another, a nicer one for the gold medal. When the problem with Grishina’s mom came to light in 2017, several blogs in english explained a littled how much the gimnasts who won silver at London recieved. Also, the gimnasts usually get rewards from the main government and also for provincial/local government, especially if they are from a place with little prominent sportpeople in their history. It was said recently that the birthplace of David Belayinsky, one of Russia gold team medalist, will implement a brand new gymnastics program, that they didn’t have before and David had to go elsewhere, after his success. So even if they won’t become rich, a medal at the Olympics for a Russian gymnast can get them settled for life. Not to be rich, but how many 16 years old have a property on their names and a good amount of cash to start to their names?

Connected to Grishina’s issue, you can get more information here: http://israeligymnerd.blogspot.com/2017/03/grishinas-story.html

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

I heard about Grishina and her mom, I really loved her gymnastics. I have seen Aliyas flat, it is very cute. Our ways of living are very different in both countries. Our government does not give money to Olympians, IF they go pro they get money via sponsors. I recall each Olympian getting really cute BMW SUV’s upon winning silver. If I am correct, Russia is government trained and do not have to pay for gymnastics at Round Lake. I do not know all the schematics though. I just like to watch the sport, I never really thought about the gifts. I know just a bit regarding US and saw a post of the Russians after Rio was over getting their vehicles.

Russia is very different, as gymnasts are regarded as a workers for the government, so they get menually paid and their stipend is higher or lower depending on if they are in the Main National Team or not, but anyone competing for Russia gets paid and all their expenses when they are on official assignements or Round lake are paid. The gifts are an extra, but they are regarded as a workers. The training when kids get to a certain level is also free and they have a lots of programs where it is very cheap to get kids starters. I read in memoirs and american gymnasts that it is crazy expensive to pay for doing gymnastics in USA, and I am not sure if in the USA they pay people in the Main Team, but in Europe and places like Russia and Romania, professional sportpeople are regarded as workers and they have to have a fixed money awarded to them each month to support themselves and their families, and all the expenses of travels or medical insurance are completely covered.

  12. imperatorcarolus Says:

Casella’s point of view (remember, always, that Casella is on the same level a Martha and Valentina; you should always take what he says with a pinch of salt). He says that they noticed her having problems on podium before the withdrawal and appoints as a possible reason for the problems she is having “new no mastered moves” that she could have recently learned.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

He’s not wrong. This issue is happening because she is having a hard time hitting things that used to be easy for her. I don’t think she wanted to come back. I think people talked her into it. Maybe she should have waited until 2019.

Now she has a boyfriend and a house and has lived the life of a regular person. She needs to go to College or create a charity. Something so she can have a career.

      • JAS4 Says:

If that is the case she should withdraw from VT and any other apparatus finals that are affected by it for safety. From what people are saying it is not something that can be fixed quickly.

      • JAS4 Says:

      • HartofDixie Says:

I’ve noticed that it’s almost always the pro gymnasts that make comebacks (being an active athlete = endorsement money). I’m sure part of it is missing the sport and not knowing what to do next and to make money. If you off to college and decide to comeback you might as well go pro.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

True but now College gymnasts can make money off their names. Maybe we will get more.

Lexie Priessman attempted a comeback this year. She wanted to see what she could do. It didn’t last long. Krystal Uzelec did too. She ended it. Not sure why.

  13. Aki Says:

Does anyone else find it suspicious that Simone does not follow Suni or Jade on IG?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I am not surprised because Simone seemed kind of curt when Jade beat her in prelims in 2019 on vault. Simone sent all the gymnasts that made the Olympic team ear phones she got from a sponsor and the only person that didn’t make a public Instagram thank you was Suni. I wondered if maybe she didn’t send one to Suni or Suni could have thanked her privately instead of on instagram.

How do you know they don’t follow each other?

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I think you can see who follows who in any public account in any social media (at least I can on Twitter, not an user of IG, though). I don’t think anybody has gone through all Simone’s contacts on Social Media (although there are many crazy people out there), but it is possible that they checked if she follows the main USA teammembers and, maybe, her most important competition, like Melna or Larissa, people that is known are friends with her. Melna seemed more surprised by Simone’s withdrawal than her teammates. She was constantly asking her if she was okay and even stopped her gold celebration a little to ask her when Simone when to congratulate Russia’s team.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

But, to be honest, it is a little weird to be defined by who you are following on social media or not. There are people who don’t like them that much, people who only want family/close friends there and others who really doesn’t want coworkers there because they only upload silly things. I like Twitter, but since my sister got there, I assume she is going to rattle to my mom everything I do and I am not all that happy about that (I am an adult and I do whatever I want, but you know, it gets tiring having to deal with explaining or having a row).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Simone follows a lot of people. She and Jade were very friendly a few years ago. There has to be a reason she doesn’t follow her.

      • Aki Says:

Yeah if you go into who Simone follows and type at the search bar Jade and Suni’s names, they don’t come up. Obviously Jordan Mykayla and Grace do.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

At one point Simone followed Jade. Not sure about Suni but I don’t think Suni liked Simone that much from watching them in the past. Simone not liking Suni I would not be surprised about because she hates to lose.

I need to get an instagram. Twitter is boring

      • Aki Says:

Typically I’d agree that it’s weird to define those by who they follow online BUT considering that the current team is all about social media and they’ve been love bombing one another since the beginning of competition season in 2021, it should be a LITTLE valid to how these girls feel about one another.
Funny how she isnt following the 2 girls who threatened her throne. Who you follow on social media can say alot about you.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

And she used to follow Jade. Is she deleting people during the Olympics?

    • HartofDixie Says:

I’m following the team and alternates for the Olympics and the only teammates she follows are Jordan and MyKayla. From 2016 team Aly & Madison.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I can’t even remember who was on the 2016 team. Simone, Aly, Maddie Gabby and, I need to look this up. (I forgot Laurie. Wait, she doesn’t even follow Laurie?)
And no Grace and Suni or Emma, Leanne, Kara or Kayla.

I am sure all of these girls have secret ones for friends.

So she doesn’t follow Suni and

  14. imperatorcarolus Says:

Well, I am going to put my jammies on. Are you going to be here tomorrow for AA final? I am so excited, it is going to be the most exciting AA final in years. Are you going to be here, GTT, or do you need for me to fill in?

I bought lots of ice cream this morning. No vodka, because at 11.00 in the morning it would be too much, but depending of how thing goes, I might miss it.

        Thank you 🙂

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

I can def. do that. Thanks!

      • JAS4 Says:

Right? I hope this is true because I would love for Mykayla to get a chance to compete in Vault finals. I also don’t think with Simone’s current twisting/mental block that is a good idea for her to compete Vault right now because even if things are going ok in training when the pressure is on it could happen again and then it would be too late for Mykayla to step in. Especially since they don’t get a one touch warm up, I just don’t think it’s worth the risk.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

It is normal, though. Regardless of what happened with Simone, she needs to be ready until the final is over. She doesn’t know if she could be called for any reason. All of the closest alternates to each competition need to be ready. Look at Lieke, who didn’t know she was competing AA until yesterday.

Regarding the Landis, I couldn’t conceive not leading a helping hand to a student that needed it, even if he/she is not “mine”, so to speak. Also, the situation regarding the coaches is strange, as not all of them were allowed to travel. After GB medal, there was an interview with the Gadirova’s coach and we were wondering why she wasn’t with them and it was linked with the restrictions (and some shanigans GB pulled with their alternates). Mykayla coach might as well not be in Tokyo and the Landis are helping her. Who is officially the team supervisor? Wasn’t Landi on the arena with them at team final? (I remember Jordan going to the sidelines to speak briefly with a blond woman that I think it was Cocteau-Landi).

      • lolamarigolda Says:

I know Myk’s female coach is there; she posted a pic of them together the other day. Not sure about one or both of the male coaches. I think I saw one of them in a pic there the other day.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I don’t know. Russia, for example, almost always travel only with the head coaches and the program coordinator, but not the private coaches. I assume that with COVID-19, there are further restrictions. The Gadirova’s main female coach isn’t there either. In Spain the head coach is always the same, so I can’t use that as an example.

  16. gymtruthteller Says:

When I first watched all the happiness by the silver medal team I was like, I guess winning any medal would make a first time Olympian happy even if you thought you were guaranteed a gold medal but after watching a few more pictures and videos I think these girls were told to act happy.

Simone and Suni were never posting for selfies as a duo before. this just all seems a bit too happy for me.

    • Aki Says:

That’s why i brought up the social media following. I agree maybe i was being too nosy and curious but i drew the same conclusion you did. Seems to be an act. Like i said before…smells like Propaganda in the near future. After the olympics….i’m waiting.

    • JAS4 Says:

Watch the video where Simone tells them she is out during tf and the camera catches Grace without a mask and you can tell she looks a little sad/worried but I think she was doing her best to hide it. I am sure she wanted to seem supportive but sometimes with things like that happen it’s hard to completely hide your feelings. Even if she and the rest of the team completely understood and were completely supportive I would imagine they still felt tons of pressure and worry/disappointment when she told them that. But I hadn’t seen Suni and Simone posting selfies together until after this too. They probably haven’t had time to process everything that happened yet. I wonder how they will feel when they get home and after the tour and all once some time has passed. I also wonder how they will feel if she decides she can compete in VT final.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

To me no one looked surprised. Was it the team warm up the Italy coach said Simone looked off? Even he knew.

Suni was probably just happy she thought Simone was out of the AA finals and she could win gold .

A lot of gymnasts seem to like Suni. They also seemed to like Morgan. I think eventually someone will say something to a friend and the true feelings will get out. Grace is just too nice and mouse-e to ever say anything and Suni if she wins the AA won’t say anything unless people start telling her it has an asterisk next to it. That leaves Jordan her BFF.

      • JAS4 Says:

I wonder if she was having issues in warm ups and maybe she or her coaches mentioned withdrawing was a possibility to the team so maybe that is why they seemed not so surprised. Or maybe they were afraid if they reacted in anything but a completely positive manner that they would be dragged on social media. I’m sure these girls know just how quick the “gymternet” can turn on you. Grace is from MN too so maybe the MN nice applies to her too lol.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yes, it was Casella, Italy’s main coach/team coordinator (you know, the one I hope retires soon and that Vanessa wins a medal that would be a great fuck you to him). Italy began at UB, as they finished at beam, so he must have been quite close during warms up.

Nobody seemed surprised. All of us were surprised but them. Hell, Melna was more surprised, asking Simone at every time if she was really okay. I mentioned the timeline in a previous commentary. It was all so sudden. Simone was last on vault and Jordan wasn’t scheduled to compete UB, but even before Simone was able to leave the arena, Jordan was already on the UB and was warming up before she came back with her coach and it was announced. If Simone was having issues beforehand, I am sure they discussed all the possible outcomes and were ready.

I ***think**** Shannon Miller was doing local commercials for the one in Jacksonville, Florida during non-olympic times back between 2013 and 15 when I was still hanging down there.

  19. HartofDixie Says:

If she can rise to occasion i’m going with Suni though Rebecca has the edge with not competing in team finals. Let’s see if she can hit. My dream would be to have 3 continents represented on the podium so Suni/Rebecca, Mai, and Angelina/Vlada.

I want the Gadirova twins to finish in the top 10 and for Jade to throw her new skill floor skill so she gets it named.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

I wish for Roxi. I woudn’t mind Sunisa on the podium, but I would prefer two Russians and Andrade. Or one Russian, Andrade and Roxi. I would be so happy with any combination with Roxi on it. Melna, Vlada and Gadirova would be dreamy, too. With Melna, Gadirova and Roxi I might feel like I died and go to heaven, or had a post-competition cigarrette (and I don’t smoke).

  20. lolamarigolda Says:

I caught the NBC prime time replay last night. After Jordan’s bars, they showed her parents having a watch party. No mention of her mom’s impending incarceration. Sorry, not sorry, but showing them is in really poor taste given that situation.

I plan on watching live in the morning. Shit’s gonna get real. I’m still bummed Flavia was hurt and is out of AA. Now, I just want some variation of Melnikova, Mai, and Andrade on the podium with Jade as the 4th.

I fell down the stairs twice last year😂 the first time I slipped down coming downstairs in our old house even though they had carpet lol! I was fine just a little sore. The second time it was raining and silly me forgot we live in MN now and I stepped outside and it was freezing rain and I slipped down the concrete stairs onto the sidewalk. Thankfully I happened to have my hair in a bun and that protected my head and other than a nasty bruise on leg and being sore I was fine. Those happened within a few weeks of each other and I was begging to think I should stay away from stairs lol. Although I had knee surgery a few months before and my stability on steps wasn’t the best so that’s probably to blame lol!

    • JAS4 Says:

I’m wondering if the girls did know that it was a possibility since she had issues in training or when it first happened maybe there was talk about her not competing, but then they thought it was fixed? The way Tom talks makes it seem that she is likely to compete in event finals. If she isn’t 100% though she should definitely stay away from VT and anything that she is having trouble with.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If she competes in the EF this was a ploy. Maybe beam but anything else then it’s BS.

I feel like she’s canceling day by day to see how much attention she can get.

      • JAS4 Says:

Agreed! Especially VT! Because from what other gymnasts are saying it is not something that can be resolved that quickly. If she is suddenly fine to compete in VT finals then something seems sketchy. I too am wide awake GTT lol! I had a headache earlier today so I took a long nap and now I can’t go to sleep lol!

Hi all! It’s been ages since I’ve commented, but I’ve been reading along and thought I would pop in to say hello. I have thoughts on Simone and the AA that I’ll share later. Currently trying to type them all out so that I sound like a coherent person, rather than a whackadoodle whose thoughts are all over the place. I will say that the twisties sound like something that a kindergartener would get after spinning on the swing to much at recess rather than an ailment, but what do I know? I also have a question. If Simone doesn’t compete anymore, will she have to change the goat’s name to Sylvie?

Speaking of Shawn, she announced the name of her son. Jett James East. I feel bad that the first thought I had when I saw it was “JJ the Jet Plane!”

      I’ll see myself out now…

They downvoted the shit out of me about a year or so ago for mentioning how Simone didn’t as in love with the sport as she once did, and for suggesting the possibility of the US Women’s Team not taking home gold in Tokyo due to the bottom falling out of USAG post-Nassar. I cannot imagine a lack of a competent governing body not affecting their training and overall mental fortitude…?? You know? Anyway, they attacked me. Asked if i even watched gymnastics, etc. It’s hive-mind thinking over there.

They changed the order a little between the main group. Jade isn’t exactly in the same spot for the different apparatus as Simone and now Melka will go last on vault. They usually change things around a little for the best qualified on the main group to go last (not always, but usually).

  37. imperatorcarolus Says:

It is just me or the leotards are more sparkly than usual? Or I am just excited to be able to watch it in the big tv?

  38. imperatorcarolus Says:

Martina Maggio begins on beam and falls.

  39. imperatorcarolus Says:

Suni on vault. Hit vault completely, very clean and without any step. This will be a good score for her.

  40. lolamarigolda Says:

The version o peacock is slightly (2-3 minutes) further along than what I’m seeing on the link at the top of the page so I’m going to probably end up turning off the link version and sticking to the peacock live.

    Also, I may fall asleep.

  41. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andrade on vault, extremely nice and 6.00 D-score. She touched the line and a little off the centre, it is going to be a good score. I am not sure if she get deductions, because the line theoretically is in.

  42. imperatorcarolus Says:

Melanie begins on UB, but it was not her best set, epecially at the beginning, but saves it. Let’s see what the judges say.

  43. imperatorcarolus Says:

15.300 for Andrade. They did give her 0.1 penalty. Jade on.

  44. imperatorcarolus Says:

Same vault for Jade, but less clean than Andrade. She is going to have a good score, but the comparision with Andrade is going to hurt her because Andrade did it much better.

  45. Marcelo Says:

Not a great vault from Jade.

  46. imperatorcarolus Says:

Nina did a 1.5. It was good, but she begins with a point less on vault than Jade and Andrade. She is very clean, though, that is her main streght both on vault and floor. She will get penalty, too.

  47. imperatorcarolus Says:

Vlada on. Hit vault for her. Planted. I missed Jade score, I will try to get it on Twitter.

  48. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jade has just 0.2 E less than Rebeca, I am reading…It reality is 0.3 but Andrade had a deduction.

    14.500 for Vlada.

13.833 for Melanie on UB. Could have been worse.

  49. lolamarigolda Says:

Vault judges are on crack seeing the e score differences between Nina, Jade, and Vlada (9.0 and 9.1 and 9.0).

  50. Marcelo Says:

Jade didn’t deserve that vault score especially compared to Rebeca’s vault. The judges are already on crack.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Vault judges have been throwing high eights and nines all season. At least they are consistent on one thing. But in an Olympics were they were giving the tenth to USA just for being USA, I am sure they will have awarded Jade even a higher E score, so I think we must count our blessings, lol.

  51. imperatorcarolus Says:

Melna on. Good one. Minor details and a hop back, but good. I am not sure if she went over the line or not. 14.633 for her, I think this was a little gift, especially compared to Vlada’s (I still love you, Melna, don’t mind me). She outscores Suni, who I think is a problem with the line-up, as Suni’s was better. I still don’t know Jade’s, but I think for the aforementioned comment she got 15.1 and that was also a gift compared with Andrade’s vault.

Brooklyn Moors and then Roxi on beam

  52. imperatorcarolus Says:

Lu Yufei on UB while Roxi is on beam. I will try to get her score later.

Lu Yufei had a fall and is limping a little, but she comes back and seem very, very pissed. Revenge exercises are usually great. The rest of it was great, as well as the landing. She is a great gymnast. I fret for the future of this Chinese team, but I hope they select them again for Worlds and can redeem themselves. They are really beautiful to watch in several events.

  53. gymtruthteller Says:

I’m up against my better judgement because I woke up on my own and was in the middle of a dream they were fixing this for jade Carey to win a medal. Someone was hiding the results from Suni who was looking for them. that’s all I remember 🙂

Looks like I was right and also looks like Mai hit beam.

  54. imperatorcarolus Says:

    13.333 for Lu Yufei.

Seems like Roxi didn’t have the best beam ever, but it is survival for her in that event. 11.700 for Roxi. She had to have a fall, because she had a 6+ on E score. Usually that is just more than one fall, but these judges had been throwing 7.50 for somewhat clean routines, so I think is only one. Canada made an inquiry for Brooklyn’s beam. Canada makes a lot of inquiries, they have money and it shows, but I don’t think it is going to work out.

Andrade leads after one rotation, with Jade second, Melna third, Suni on forth and Vlada on fifth.

  55. imperatorcarolus Says:

Mai is on tenth with 13.766 on beam, which is actually a good score for her, given these judges and that it isn’t her best apparatus.

    Inquiry rejected for Brooklyn.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Is Simone at the AA?

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Not competing. I don’t know if she is on the stands or not. I think that, if she was, the camera had already showed her, but I don’t know.

  56. imperatorcarolus Says:

Both Gadirovas are on the final and in the same rotation. One is 11th and the other is 21th.

  57. imperatorcarolus Says:

They showed Mai during the break. Given how the beam judges are being, Mai finally got the home country tenths.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Good because from all the rumblings I’ve heard about vault where people had form issues and stepped to the side they might as well even it up.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The vault judges had being so merciful or the quad. Nina got gift, Melna and Jade got gifts, and that is in detriment of Andrade, Vlada and Suni, who did better. But the vault judges are like “Nines for everybody!”

  58. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Standings after one rotation:

  59. imperatorcarolus Says:

Melanie on beam and big woobles. It is going to hurt her a lot. She is not having a good day, but she stays on.

  60. imperatorcarolus Says:

REBECCA IS ON FIRE! Hit routine on UB for her.

  61. imperatorcarolus Says:

12.166 for Melanie on beam. Without a fall, it was a tad anal retentive from the judges, taking into account I agree she didn’t do a good set, but 6 without a fall seems excesive.

  62. imperatorcarolus Says:

Tang Xijing falls on beam, but the rest was lovely. Such a pity!

  63. imperatorcarolus Says:

14.666 for Andrade on UB, with a harsh E score in my opinion. Jade on. Let’s see if it is rigged or not right here.

  64. imperatorcarolus Says:

Hit set for Jade, and good job for her, but it was labored in my opinion. But did well for it not being a good apparatus for her.

Simone is in the stands, with other members of the USA’s party and the only one without mask.

  65. imperatorcarolus Says:

13.066 for Tang Xijin. Jade has ovaries of steel, nothing shakes her, we have to give her that.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

13.500 for jade. Still too high for form but better than her prelims score which was cheating

  66. imperatorcarolus Says:

    13.500 for Jade. Nina on.

    • JAS4 Says:

I just woke up…..that’s what I get for staying up so late lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I didn’t fall asleep til 4 am. I won’t up in the middle of a dream they were fixing the AA for Jade 🙂

  67. imperatorcarolus Says:

I think Nina did the somewhat harder routine (not her hardest, but it was more difficult than the one in quals). Good execution. Nina is unshackeable too.

Carey got 0.633 less than in quals, with this set today being better.

Most of the gymnasts are hitting the landings.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Suni warmed up her easier routine.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They are penalizing execution today more than usual on beam and UB. She needs to get the one who is safer for her. She is not getting the Nellie tenths, so she can’t count on those either.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am fine with that if they do it for EVERYONE

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Urazova hit bars. Well done. I see her feet together and legs straight and wonder if the judges are judging with the same eyes

      • tulip Says:

        Good morning everyone

Rebecca had 2 outstanding events and I’d love to see her medal
The judges appear to want Melnikova to win. During beam in TF she fell twice and wobbled everything else yet a ridiculous E score.

        Those judges…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Suni just got a huge gift on bars. The fix is in for her. Her form issues were a mess she was off to the side on one of paks.

Urazova had her feet together with less mistakes and they got practically the same execution score.

The bar judges finally scored Jade closer to what she deserves with her usual shit form.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t know if one of the Gadirova twins fell of not but she scored a 12..933 something.
      15.266 for Nina

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      6.7 start value

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She has the 6.6 one and the 6.8 one, but I don’t think she will compete the 6.8 one.

  68. imperatorcarolus Says:

Vlada on. Very nice, but she didn’t hit everything, but most of the element except a handstand and planted the landing.

Meanwhile, Roxi on floor and THEY ARE NOT SHOWING HER TO ME WHY?

  69. imperatorcarolus Says:

    14.866 for Vlada. Melna on.

  70. imperatorcarolus Says:

Very nice for Melna. Some leg separation, but nothing mayor. Planted. Akhaimova is there for moral support.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Roxi had a lot of huge steps and under rotations on floor.

    • JAS4 Says:

I am a little surprised that Suni isn’t warming up her more difficult routine because she needs those tenths here.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

But they are being very rigurous, it will be worse if she has a mistake with the harder routine.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Alice Damato also had bouncy landings on floor. Suni’s UB score was way too high. She was all over the place in that routine. I don’t understand what these judges are seeing?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She was really sloppy at this angle.

The UB giving Urarova less than 6 tenths difference in deduction on bars is bad judging.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She was sloppy, for her usual level. But look at that, judges didn’t mind.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They are low balling Urazoba who had a 8.566 in execution for a routine a million times better than Suni.

This needs to be investigated. I don’t know how they get away with it.

Melnikova was also messy and she got 9.6 in execution.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Sunisa’s score was very, very unfair for the grief they were giving other gymnasts.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree 100% and have already bitched about it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I didn’t pay attention but Suni went for the 6.8 that she didn’t warm up

  71. imperatorcarolus Says:

    13.133 for Roxi on floor.

  72. imperatorcarolus Says:

    14.900 for Melna. Suni on.

  73. imperatorcarolus Says:

Suni could steer herself, was sideways. She is doing fine, but had to correct herself. In any case, I think she will retain the D.Score and I don’t think she will be slammered, but there were some things.

  74. imperatorcarolus Says:

15.300 for Suni, they didn’t give a fuck about the problems. Beam will decide.

    • JAS4 Says:

Maybe today they have decided to just decided to do whatever the VT judges are doing lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

But the vault judges are very trigger happy with everyone, and UB judges are only favouring certain gymnasts, because Melanie for example or the chinese were slammered. Given how they are scoring other gymnasts, with that routine, Suni should have around 0.4 tenths less of what she had!

  75. gymtruthteller Says:

Not wearing red, white and blue during an AA final, Jade is criminal.

  76. imperatorcarolus Says:

Giulia Steingruber is seventh, by the way.

  77. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Giulia’s vault was huge!

  78. imperatorcarolus Says:

  79. gymtruthteller Says:

Andrade is ahead by 9 tenths. That is huge (Suni’s vault might be her undoing here) It will come down to beam and staying alive on floor.

  80. Marcelo Says:

    I didn’t even notice this: https://twitter.com/gymtertainment/status/1420714381944360960?s=21

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Shannon Miller did this during a meet in the 90’s.lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Does they have to go out or anything? I didn’t notice, but they didn’t show me Lieke. Maybe she ripped the first one in one of the events.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I didn’t see her. I;m watching the 4 event feed but it’s hard to watch everyone

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Roxi hit her DTY. A bit messy in preflight and slight crossed feet and a decent sized hop back but not bad with the knee.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They only show me one thing. Thanks for update me about Roxi!

  81. imperatorcarolus Says:

The beam will decide everything. And isn’t it a horrible thought for Russia’s gym fans?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I want the judges to do the same thing they did for everyone today and not fix it with execution.

Remember when I wrote my Skinner blog and told her to chuck floor because judges didn’t care about execution.

      THIS IS PROOF

  82. imperatorcarolus Says:

Jade’s beam. Jade has a fall. I have to say, I admire her calmness. Ok, people without falls and less hensitation are having 7 of execution. Anything higher for Jade is corruption.

  83. gymtruthteller Says:

Jade fell on beam. Slow connections and shitty form. This should be in the 11’s. Maybe even 10’s. She got an almost 13 for a hit routine and this was worse.

  84. imperatorcarolus Says:

Oh, Mai on vault. Love Mai’s leo. Nice!

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

      14.533 for Mai.

11.566 for Jade, with plus 6 on execution.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Gadirova twin hits floor with more bouncy landings. She stayed up

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

The funny thing is that the Gadirovas are the only ones in competition that aren’t showed in the screens only by initial, but another letter to diferentiate. The problem? They are JEnnifer and JEssica. It didn’t help and I don’t know if they noticed, lol!

  85. imperatorcarolus Says:

    Praying for Vlada! Davai Vlada!

  86. HartofDixie Says:

Started late on 2nd rotation. Why is Jade wearing that leo? Was not expecting to see this much pink and purple. And love that Lieke changed leos after vault.

  87. imperatorcarolus Says:

SUCH A NICE SET FOR VLADA!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

That was awesome. best routine so far. Decent sized step on landing but rest was great. That better be at least a 14.7

  88. imperatorcarolus Says:

Giulia’s on UB! So happy to see Giulia. I don’t know if the coach touched her, I really hope not.

  89. imperatorcarolus Says:

    14. 200 for Vlada. It should have been higher.

  90. imperatorcarolus Says:

Melna on. Praying for her, too.

  91. imperatorcarolus Says:

Melna survives! I hope Vlada still gets a higher score, though.

  92. tulip Says:

Still rooting for Andrade to pull this out

Very dubious beam scores… eager to see what they do with the Russians since it appears that maybe, just maybe, there is a bit of fixing??

    Nelli Kim would be proud!

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

It depends of what Suni and Andrade do on beam.If they both survives, they will take one Russian out of the podium to make sure that Sunisa is there, and it will be Vlada, as Andrade and Melna both had higher scoring floors than both Suni and Vlada.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Stars are being judged differently. NOT fair.

Melanie big step on frst pass and under rotation

  93. imperatorcarolus Says:

The top ones are mostly hitting everything, I am very happy about that. I hope this goes Andrade, Melna and Vlada. I like Sunisa, but I a pissed about that robbery in UB.

  94. imperatorcarolus Says:

13.700 for Melna. I think it was very strict.

  95. imperatorcarolus Says:

Suni on. Big wooble on her wolf turn and I think it was supposed to be a double.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I missed the bobble. She had some cheated leaps too and a few more small bobbles but so far Urazova should be in the lead and she isn’t

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She almost fell on the wolf turn, but stayed on, at the beginning.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I saw the bobble. it wasn’t that big but this score should be in the middle 13’s

  96. imperatorcarolus Says:

Not the best for Suni. If they follow suit, this should be lower than both Vlada and Melna

  97. imperatorcarolus Says:

13.833 with 7.733 in execution for Suni. Andrade on.

  98. imperatorcarolus Says:

Very nice for Andrade, given that this has never been her best apparatus and she can compensate with floor, where she has, if I am not mistaken, higher D-score than both Suni and Melna. I’ll check.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

MUCH betetr than prelims but she was so overscored in prelims I don’t know what to expect here.

Sadly, Mai is going to bars and even if she hits they won’t give her an AA medal so i don’t care who wins though for me Urazova should be in the lead so far.

    • lolamarigolda Says:

      That ring leap was NICE.

  99. imperatorcarolus Says:

13.566 for Andrade, and Gervi is calling bullshit

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I am calling bull shit too. That was WAY better than prelims. WAY

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Gervi is saying that the judges are already doing weird things to fix things. He knows and he has been Olympic, European and Worlds Champion.

They want an USA gymnast there and are not even denying it and Vlada and Andrade are at risk of being screwed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Andrade only needs 2 tenths higher on floor than Suni to pass her. She can do that.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They want a medal for Suni, is obvious. But if Andrade hits, she won’t have the title. They want a medal for her, but no necessarily the gold.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What was Andrade’s score in prelims on floor.

To me, Urazova is the one getting nit picked the most.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

If Sunisa enters the game, Vlada is the one who is going to get screwed. Without an obvious problem, they won’t screw up Melna.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Mai stayed on bars. Form never wavered but she will get in the middle 13’s if lucky but I am happy she hit

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        MAI IS UP FIRST. AHHHH

      • HartofDixie Says:

Conspiracy thought is with Simone out they may prefer another American or Russian to win. But Andrade winning will be a great thing for the sport.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They won’t punish Andrade, but they want they want a USA in the podio. They would prefer a Russian, too if it was Andrade and two USA girls, but right now, they will try to get one russian screwed to put Suni in if needed. But she needs to hit.

  100. gymtruthteller Says:

Suni is getting way too many gifts here. Urazova has been lowballed. These judges need to be investigated

    • tulip Says:

The judges ALWAYS need to be investigated

One day someone will spilled the beans and tell all and it will be ugly

  101. HartofDixie Says:

I’ve heard Simone cheer for Melanie and Angelina has she cheered loudly for Suni and Jade?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

i heard her cheer loudly for Jade earlier I think on bars.

    • brooklyngirl84 Says:

Did you see Simone’s reaction after it was announced that Suni had won gold? No cheering, nothing. Just a polite clap. So odd.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The video I saw showed her clapping like a fool. It looked fake. Skinner was clapping the same way. Her’s didn’t look rudely it just kind of looked like she was worried about what Simone was feeling. They were sitting down but Jordan was playing for the camera’s
        , standing up.
For some reason, wordpress is putting all your comments into the need to be approved category. I’ll do some research and get back to you.

  102. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andrade, Vlada and Melna had better scores on floor in this competition than Suni but, if she doesn’t fail, the judges will make sure she ends up with a medal.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Breath. Andrade needs to hit floor and she can do this but I will tell you right now, if Suni wins then there will be a lot of people complaining she didn’t deserve it.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I am very pissed at this. That is why people from other countries don’t like USA to win. We don’t have anything against the gymnasts and enjoy them, but we don’t like this rigged fuckery. The official commentators in Spain, judges and trainers now, ex gymnasts with medals, are calling the fuckery with Andrade publicly and how Suni was way overscored in beam and UB.

  103. imperatorcarolus Says:

Nina’s floor music is the same than in an awful tv commercial here in Spain and I can’t get it out of my head now, dammit.

  104. imperatorcarolus Says:

Giulia on beam. It is always lovely to see Giulia.

  105. imperatorcarolus Says:

VLADA COMPETED SUPERBLY! I am so happy for her.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

It is her first AA final at a big competition, as she was two per countried at Europeans.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She had too many landing issues for them to give this to her but she did great. She’s my favorite to watch of the russians

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Roxi fell on bars.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

God, Spain is jinxed in these Olympics. But we have been here, so it could be worse.

    • tulip Says:

She should be proud of her performance regardless of how she is judged

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I am happy for her because she is very young and I didn’t want for people to give her grief about how Listy’s was a better option, I especially wanted for her to hit, but she is a force to be reckoned with.

  106. imperatorcarolus Says:

13.400 for Vlada! This is rigged.

  107. imperatorcarolus Says:

    SOMETHING WENT WRONG!

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Something went wrong. I am not sure how wrong, but wrong.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      fOR WHO?

Melnikova had some messy landings and won’t get credit for her double wolf turn it was way short

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They need Andrade + Melna + Suni (interchange this last positions).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Melnikova just got her biggest gift of the games. No way that was a 13.966

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

In this scenario, Vlada is the one robbed. But Suni needs to hit.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Suni had some sloppy landings too but with Melnikova’s gift I don’t know what the judges will do

  108. imperatorcarolus Says:

She is first, but something went wrong. I will revisit later, Suni on.

  109. imperatorcarolus Says:

Suni did well. The Spanish commentators said she failed, but I don’t see something major. I think they think that there are gymnastic elements that they are not going to count, so her D-score is going to suffer.

  110. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andrade needs to hit and Gervi is saying that the scores of Suni and Melna were totally unfair.

  111. imperatorcarolus Says:

Andrade, I can’t believe it! It was in her hand!

  112. imperatorcarolus Says:

    I am not happy.

  113. imperatorcarolus Says:

Silver for Andrade. Vlada was so robbed.

  114. imperatorcarolus Says:

I am not happy at all. The gifts Suni and Melna got are unspeakable and a shame for this sport.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Jade didn’t even try for her new move. This would have been the time.

OOB and she shouldn’t get credit for that double turn with the leg up or half her leaps.

This will be an interesting score.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

They gave Jade a 13.966 with missed leaps and jumps and an OOB. They are giving her gold on floor.

      URAZOVA WAS ROBBED

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Vlada and Mai were robbed, because they were fourth and fifth and those gifts kept Sunisa and Melna in the podium.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Mai is the cleanest gymnast in this final .

I love Suni minus the Yankee hat (Pink no less) but her scores were just wrong.

    • JAS4 Says:

I guess all the judges decided to be like the Vault judges today

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The floor judges were just as bad and the beam judges.

Andrade was near perfect on beam and got a 13 something but Suni had 4 bobbles and only lost 4 tenths from prelims?

The floor judges were the ones who fixed this. All of them had landing issues but only Urazova was dinged.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

No, the vault judges gave gifts to everyone. The rest gave Sunisa and Melna gifts to keep them in the podium and slammered the rest. If you are going to give gifts, gave gifts to everyone. They were fixing the podium since UB

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Who do you think should have won?

For me it was Urazova. The floor judges dinged her but no one else. Andrade was OOB and maybe even twice (I forget) and Melnikova messed up her double wolf turn and had shit landings.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

This should have been Urazova, Mai and Andrade (because despite her mistakes on floor, she had an edge, high D-score and should have been scored better in beam). Melna had gifts. Sunisa got whole Christmas.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Mai is the cleanest gymnast in these finals. It doesn’t seem the judges gave her the same benefit others received.

Urazova is the clear winner for me. They were keeping her down the entire competition.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Andrade’s floor score was a joke too but her beam was BS

  115. lolamarigolda Says:

The just said that Andrade’s coach submitted an inquiry that was approved. Doesn’t change the results, but did raise her score.

    • tulip Says:

Good. Her score was too low in my opinion If only she’d have stayed in bounds on floor… Top of the podium without a doubt

  116. tulip Says:

Congrats to all for a great final
It was actually suspenseful for once!!

I’ll leave scoring out and say that we saw some beautiful gymnastics and I’m really pleased with that. They were all outstanding.

  117. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if now that Simone sees Suni with gold she will now be feeling much better and want to compete in all her EFs?

    • tulip Says:

No I think she’s done for EF too

Is it too much to hope that McKayla gets to be in EF?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Maybe Simone now wants 4 more gold medals so she can say, I would have won the AA.lol

I hope Skinner gets to compete but the vault judges gave Jade a higher score with a step on vault. They are giving that event to her.

      • HartofDixie Says:

I kind of want Rebecca to win vault now.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She needs to upgrade her DTY to an Amanar and hit it for that to happen. I would love to see her win too unless Skinner competes.

Jade got a 15.2 with her shit vault and a step.

I just want to know who’s in so I can end this Olympics for good. Unless Skinner wins gold on vault which is unlikely even if allowed to compete, all the EF are going in one blog and I’m spending a relaxing end of my vacation away from gymnastics.
” If you can’t control it, stop worrying about it”

    • HartofDixie Says:

At this point it’s better to scratch. She needs to let them know so the reserves have more than a day’s notice.

  118. lolamarigolda Says:

I’m going back to bed. That was a wild ride. Jade should have done the 3/2LO since it was obvious the medals were out of reach. So happy for Melna and Andrade tho I know the latter is probably pissed at herself for letting gold slip away.

  119. imperatorcarolus Says:

I am so pissed it isn’t even funny and people I like won!

    • tulip Says:

      I’m so sorry you’re disappointed. This is a love/hate sport, isn’t it?

I look forward to hearing what you are hearing. You always have great sources!!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No one is disappointed especially not Rocio. He’s mad. Did you watch the floor routines? All of the top 4 had issues on the landings of their rumbling but only Urazova was deducted. Suni had 3 bobbles on beam, Andrade stepped OOB and I’m pretty sure both feet were outside the lines. I think she also did it again.

Vladislava Urazova was judged with different eyes than the top 3. Go watch her beam then watch Suni’s beam.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I am pissed because it is an injustice. It is unfair and that is always frustrating and infuriating to see. You all know that I didn’t especially like Simone’s gymnastics, but that was a personal opinion and I understand why she won and she deserved it (except one beam medal, but that is almost an anecdote in her carrer). I love Melna, and I like Sunisa fine, but it was unfair and there was nothing the rest of gymnast could have done without them having very major mistakes to win, because the odds were already in place to make sure that they were on the podium. The rest of the world might as well be perfect, that it wouldn’t matter, and that is because FIG and IOC are corrupted as hell and needed the bigger federations there. In this case, they needed Suni to win and Melna to win, and they made sure they did it.

In the Spanish television, all three commentators (Paloma del Río, who has been commenting gymnastics since before Chuso, so the 70s, Gervasio Deffer, accredited judge, now trainer of WAG and Olympic, World and European gold medalist and Maria de los Ángeles “Nines” García, who was a gymnast as well and now trains at child level at Pozuelo de Alarcon, one of the most important first level gymnastics organizations in Spain) called it briefly in UB and were convinced it was riggered in beam. And Gervasio ended the transmision saying he was dissapointed because he thought the best didn’t win. They said that the judges were already beginning to fix it on beam. That is how obvious it was being.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

All we want is a fair competition. Take Suni’s beam from prelims and team finals and I’m not complaining she won.

Andrade stepped OOB like twIce. Melnikova was bouncy as hell in landings, so were Suni and Rebeca and so was Vladislava Urazova but only , Urasova was deducted. Melnikova who I love to pieces was all over the place on floor. Andrade was even worse

All we want is fair judging. Mai hit bars with her usual clean form and got a 13.7 something. Suni was a mess on bars too.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I wouldn’t be pissed if my favourite didn’t win. My favourites usually don’t win (no gold, at least) at Worlds and Olympics, and I tend to go with artistic gymnasts, not powerful ones, so with their D-score they usually don’t win, unless they are Russians or Iordache. I would have been a little dissapointed if Melna didn’t make it, but I would be happy if the podium had been fair. The ones who got robbed, Vlada, Mai and if we consider Andrade’s mistakes costly enough to loose bronze (I do not), Nina (who also got some gifts) are good gymnasts, too and they deserved more than given. What is the point on work and competition, if you know you are going to be screwed anyway?

      • tulip Says:

Disappointed was apparently the wrong word.

And for the record, I too share the opinion that the wrong people were on the podium. Urazova was the best and most consistent today and it was clear to me that the judges weren’t interested in rewarding her appropriately.

the IOC and FIG have always been corrupt organizations. It wasn’t until the big $$ with tv rights that the corruption became so obvious. Pure greed

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I am sorry, tulip. I reread my answer and I think I was sounding uncouth and it was not my intention. You has always been very kind to me. I apologize; I was just frustrated.

      • tulip Says:

Rocio you are far too kind and you do not owe me an apology at all. I do appreciate your consideration though. And let me tell that you are anything but uncouth!

Now, I so share your frustration with the suspicious judging. Absolutely any sport with subjective judging is ripe for corruption and the higher the stakes, the higher the opportunity to cheat. It’s really really discouraging that the athletes get cheated out of their results. I really believe that if things had been scored fairly, the podium would have looked different.

        Take care and thanks again!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

That is how I feel. I wrote my feelings in the blog. All we want is fair judging.

  120. monicakelly7488 Says:

I am so confused. This podium was a shit show.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

You should be confused. The floor judges judged the top 3 differently then everyone else

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

Also, why is Simones damn face up on every media outlet and not the podium finishers? Simone is on the news and not the AA “winners”. Even my brother texted me from work and was irritated by this. This Olympics is worse then 2000 Sydney.

      • JAS4 Says:

I still wouldn’t be at all surprised if Simone has a “surprise” turn around and competes in EFs. Especially after she sees Suni with AA gold because then like GTT said it will be all about like oh well Simone would have one and all that. I still say if she is having legit issues with twisties then she should stay out for safety rather than risk pulling out during the competition because then Mykayla wouldn’t get the chance to compete. Maybe it’s also just because I want Mykayla to be in that VT final and preferably to get a medal lol! Simone hasn’t announced that she is withdrawing from VT yet like she did with AA so I am guessing she is still planning on competing.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She probably has legit issues and did the right thing scratching off. At the same time, she is smart enough to know that if she maintains herself on the spotlight and presenting herself at the right manner, she will obtain tons of publicity and will overshadow the rest of the competition. Both of this things can be true at the same time.

  121. tulip Says:

    So long for now…
EF Is going to be very interesting to say the least. I can’t wait!

  122. imperatorcarolus Says:

And now they will try to get Vlada a bronze medal on UB or beam to compensate.

  123. imperatorcarolus Says:

I hope those judges are happy with their bribes and can sleep at night knowing perfectly well they purposedly robbed a 16 years old girl of a gold that was rightfully hers.

I am only happy because I know Sunisa’s family is not well with her father’s health issues and I am sure she will welcome all she can gets to help. But that is not the issue here.

    • tulip Says:

I’ve said it before and I say it again…
Someday we will get the truth about the abuses and corruption with judging. If only a very wealthy individual could make a call for judges past and present to talk and then publish the gory details. I imagine Ellen Berger, Jackie Fie and good old Nelli Kim would be sweating bullets

      Dare to dream…

    • JAS4 Says:

I feel bad for Vlada as well, but am glad for Suni and her family as well. I feel that Suni will still be over shadowed by Simone and even more so if she competes in finals.

  124. imperatorcarolus Says:

These are the judges, by the way:

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Glad there is no Spanish judge in this shitshow. I would have been ashamed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

An American won. No one is going to complain. I don’t know why I even watch this sport.

      • HartofDixie Says:

I wonder if Suni would have been scored differently if had competed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am trying to look up Simone’s prelims score to compare.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Simone’s prelims was 57.731 and Suni’s AA was 57.433. I think these judges would have tried to get both of them on the podium.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Uzbekistan and Ukraine judged floor this Olympics.

The US, GB, Brazil, Canada were also judging floor. NO Japan judge. Well they were the time judge.

Bars judges were the worst here. Beam not far behind

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Scratch that. US and Ukraine were the control judges. Which means they could have changed the scoring of the real judges. SADLY. They don’t show us the scores they gave us vs the control judges (ER is what they are called

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      THANK YOU. This i needed

  125. gymtruthteller Says:

Urazova did her lower floor in the AA even though she warmed up the harder one. Valentina doing her best to put Melnikova on this podium.

    • JAS4 Says:

Need to check the judges social media to see who has been vacationing with Nellie.

    • HartofDixie Says:

That was dumb they could have potentially gotten 2 AA medals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Yep.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s my opinion that Valentina made her do the lower start value but when you think that it’s the Olympics and you see how low she put Listunova in the prelims and you add it together, it seems like she wanted to make sure Melnikova came out with a medal.

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

It would be stupid for Russia to not try their best to put both of them in the podium. Valentina, in fact, doesn’t especially likes Valetina (the Spanish commentators had said that Valentina had treated Melna horribly in the past, even in public, and that Aliya defended and protected her, even getting to scream at Valentina where press could see, maybe at Rio), so it is doubtful. The Russian way has always been to maximize the options, but what they didn’t want was Urazova injuried, as she is their only finalist (by now) on beam and they think they could go 2-3. In team final, she tried for her harder routine, missed something and she was scored 5.1, so I think she went the safer route. But I have problems thinking, knowing Valentina and the Russian, that she was forced to benefit Valentina. Valentina loves the new senior and if she wanted to fuck Vlada up, she would have called up Listy, who is heavily favored by Valentina, as we saw in Russian Cup and Championships.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You saw the prelims line up. Listunova was put lower than she should have been.

They knew it was coming down to floor. Melnikova was grossly overscored on floor. She didn’t want Vlada to over take her.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I really don’t think they were overinterested on Melna winning, they only thought she had a better chance against the USA girls, as she is usually most powerful on floor (at Europeans, the awarded D-score on beam and floor was superior to both Listy and Vlada) and considered cleaner. Between Vlada and Listy, they are not that much difference, with Vlada being usually better on beam, Listy on floor and both very similar on UB and vault. As far as I know, they followed for prelims the scores awarded at Russian Championships, where Listy was winner, but Vlada was champion in UB and Floor, and outscored Listy both in vault and in beam. Melna, as team capitan, was always going to be last except in those events with especialists.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I would never called Melnikova cleaner than Listunova or especially Urazova.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

High scoring often doesn’t mean cleaner. You have to take into account that both Vlada and Listy competed internationally for the first time this year, and they had mostly the home competition and the Europeans to compare, especially this last competition with international judges. Vlada and Listy’s scores are usually very similar, are very little apart, and Vlada in fact qualified for more finals than Listy (although Listy will get into beam final if two people withdraw, which given how things are going, I will not discard that thought). Melna usually has high D-scores with everything credited and lots of experience, which I am sure also played a part in the line ups for quals. The decision was mostly between Vlada and Listy for quals. In their last competition, Listy won Russian Cup, but Vlada outscored her in two apparatus, and would have taken the title hadn’t she had some problems on floor. Whereas in the event finals, Vlada won two. So it was anyone games with them, to be fair.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Execution wise, Listunova and especially Urazova have it over Melnikova (Which is what I meant) Listuonva has some weird knee’s on beam but watch all the leg separations in Mlenikova’s bar routine. There are a bunch (and please don’t say, judges can’t see that. They watch podium. They know they are there and I can see them so they can see them.

I love Melnikova as you do but her execution is highly suspect, a lot of the time.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I know, I meant more for the line ups in quals. Vlada and Listy were more cleaner (maybe except UB, but close) than Melna, but Melna gets credited with more difficulty than both of them most of time. For example, on Quals them three got credited more or less the same difficulty, but on Team final Vlada only got credited 5.1 on floor, despite hitting. If they had known, they would have put Akhaimova instead of her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s funny because both Suni and Vlada lowered floor start values for execution but it only worked for Suni.

I also really feel like the podium should have been Vlada, Mai and Andrade. i might even switch Andrade to second because he vault execution compared to Jade is a sin and she was lowballed on bars and beam even if overscored on floor. Mai is a lot cleaner than giving credit. She got 5.9 start values on bars and floor and on bars her execution was in the 7’s. That’s criminal.

People say well Mai has a lower start value yet when Suni lowers her floor score and is messy she somehow deserves her score?

I am really concerned about bars finals being fair. Suni’s execution issues on bars ate totally being ignored by the judges. Nina has her own bit at this rate I feel like the gold medals are going to be suspect.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Suni will probably pay for today in UB’s final, but I doubt she cares. It will depend on Simone, because if she isn’t there, there will be many tenths going to the USA girls with medal options in event finals, especially given that, without Simone, USA only have one qualifier in 3 of 4 finals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Who do you think will win the EF?

        With and or without Simone.

Based on scoring Jade is winning vault unless Andrade nails an Amanar

Bars Nina vs Suni, who the judges have not been judging fairly on execution with all the leg issues she is having. This will be the most interesting. I haven’t seen Nina’s UB AA where Suni outscored her.
Will Suni get the extra tenths because she “won” the AA

Beam, no clue unless Chenchen hits. She hits like prelims, she wins.

Floor I think it will be between Vanessa and how Andrade lands her passes. IF she had hit in the AA she would have been won. Jade will be in the medals unless she falls. These judges don’t care how she pikes every LAID out skill .

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

With Simone on this, Simone wins floor and vault. If she has an off competition, they will make sure to put her in the podium if she doesn’t commits major mistakes, and even then on vault (we must remember that Maroney won silver sitting one of the vaults). Without her, Andrade got better scoring in prelims and she did even a better first vault today, so it will go Andrade-Jade-maybe Mykayla. I need to check the lists of the qualifications for a moment.

  126. imperatorcarolus Says:

There were so many complaints regarding yesterday’s scoring that the FIG had to release a statement defending the scoring. I have never seen them do that.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I saw that. Anyone who watched this AA and knows even a little about the judging should be able to watch this finals and know that the scoring was not the same for everyone. Suni’s bar score execution. Even comparing it to her prelims and team finals. Mai and Rebeca on bars and beam vs the rest. Look at Jade’s execution score on bars compared to Jade?

I don’t understand how anyone can watch these routines and not see at least some of the issues. Unless they don’t want too.

  127. HartofDixie Says:

I’ve been thinking. I think once the games were moved to 2021 Simone wanted to retire but was pressured to keep going. If she focused more on fixing her landings and being clean rather than train new skills I think she would have had more confidence. The Goat stuff was over the top and she was in the same position as in Rio being the heavy favorite.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She is the one that made the GOAT a thing and even named it Goldie. She needs to look in the mirror for that.

I wonder when she will decide if she is competing in the EF. We have a few days. Remember in 1992 when the gymnasts had to do the EF all in one day? I do

  128. gymtruthteller Says:

The same judges that did prelims also did the EF.

Maybe they need to start switching up judges.

  129. gymtruthteller Says:

I use a browser that blocks facebook so you need to link these together. From the SL

  130. gymtruthteller Says:

A non-approved person wants to know why Nina is so overscored with all her form issues. I ask the same thing of Suni on bars. Both opinions have merit.

I feel like these two are getting the benefit because of who they are vs what they actually show. Nina misses handstands too and so does Suni. There is a picture going around where Suni is like 3 or 5 tenths off in a handstand and people keep putting it online ( It might be an NBC Picture and celebrating it. Suni even re-instagramed it from what I was told.

    Nastia got the same benefit.

There is a great gif going around of why Melanie is getting docked on bars and they need to do that with Suni, Nina and Nastia.

NO ONE ever points this shit out

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Nina is usually overscores in execution. UB judges tend to do that when there is a high packed routine with fast connections, like if the quick connections compensate for the lost form.

  131. imperatorcarolus Says:

I found the start lists. On vault, in the FIG pdf, if you see it, all the first ones are on 9’s or very high 8s, and given what happened today, they are not going to change, so unless someone have a very major mistake, the value of the vaults will decide. Myakayla and Jade had the same D-score vaults, so it could go either way. Mykayla can even get the gold. But Andrade has just a second vault 0.4 lower and the judges favoured her in execution both days, so I will say Andrade, Mykayla, Jade.

In UB, Nina is going to win this shit. She has a very high scoring routine, she is very reliable (I think I have never seen her fall on competition) and she always get away with deductions. I think Sunisa is going to be tighter scored than today, especially to deviate the attention, because the glaring overscoring today is going to give them some problems and will want to say “See? We are being strict with USA”. If Fan Yilin hits, she has to be in the podium and the Russians are getting good scores here. I think it will be Nina-Melna-Fan Yilin, especially if USA has 1-2 on vault. Iliankova got better score than Melna, but only 0.033, and Iliankova has problems hitting under pressure.

On beam is anyone’s game, really, especially when we don’t know how many of the qualifiers are going to compete, because we can have four person (half of final!) potentially withdrawing (Flavia, Ellie, Larissa, and Simone). Both Chinese have gorgeous sets, but they are inconsistent, but at least one of them should hit. Larissa is going to get bonus points because Romania, and right now I hope they gave her all the gifts in the world, because it was done to others and it is her only chance, and they best do it. And I think they will compensate Vlada for the robbery today if she hits a beam like todays, so I will say Guan Chenchen, Larissa and Vlada. If Larissa finally can’t compete, Sunisa can’t sneak in.

For floor, without Simone, I think Ferrari will win, especially taking into account it is well know it is her last exercise, ever. I think Jade, who has been extremely overscored will sneak in, but also think she will try to credit her element and that could be her undoing. Andrade may accuse the problems of today with the floor, so I hope it will be Ferrari-Listy-Gadirova.

It depends on Simone, really. If she competes and doesn’t make mayor mistakes, she is in all the podiums.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I like your thought process but I don’t see Suni being lowballed now that she is Olympic champion.

Chenchen must hit. That routine is too beautiful not to win. Larisa needs to stop this shit of hitting in prelims and falling in finals.

I think I will be heartbroken for Listunova if she doesn’t win an individual medal and everyone else does.

Lilia can medal on vault. I also think Andrade will bring out the Amanar. I just wish the damn start lists would be released so we knew.

In the past the EF judges have been stricter and I hope that is the case now.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I know about Suni, she has had too high scores. But also think that previous result matter and they are already hearing protests regarding today’s scoring. It is a good way to deflect, especially given how close things are in that final, especially if no one falls.

On vault, those judges are too trigger happy. It was nines and high eights for everybody, literally everybody. Given that, the D-score is fundamental and both Jade and Mykayla have the highest vaults in quals. Lilia presented a 5.8 and 5.600 vaults, whereas Mykayla and Jade had vaults of 6.00 and 5.800. She already begins 0.4 lower and if they are really awarding everyone the same execution, those tenths could be her downfall.

Chenchen routine is beautiful, although the chinese seem doomed these Olympics. Tang Xinjin has had problems both days, so I put my money on Chenchen. Listy, with the Team final’s score, would be in the podium and she can do it even better. The abscense of Simone opens the door for her, because if not USA will probably go 1-2. But I have the feeling that she would try for her element to be credited (she should have gone for it today, as she didn’t have anything to loose competition wise) and it will cost her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Who questioned the scoring?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I feel like the kids, newbies will be lowballed and the medals given to the ones who have been around.

I’m not picking vault. I know they are going to give it to Jade. They don’t care about execution.

I feel like now they will give it to Suni because she won the AA.

Beam if Chenchen doesn’t hit can be anyone.

Floor again doesn’t care about anything but tumble, tumble, tumble. The funny thing with 4 they usually become nit icky in finals and someone sneaks in (Last 2 Olympics) I am going to do some research at the last two olymics and check start values and execution scores from prelims, AA to EF and see if there is a pattern. Not 2008. That Olympics is dead to me 🙂

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Isn’t Sunisa technically a newbie? She only had Stuttgart before this. I get where you are going with the AA medal mentality, but you know that, if they need to award more medals that they have, they use the idea of “but she already has a gold” to compensate other gymnasts.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nope. She went to the last worlds

But even this discussion is suspect because it’s like we are conditioned to believe they already planned the results because they usually do.

“Suni has a gold so someone else will get it in the other events” Dude—et, FIG wants stars to sell their sport. Making her the next Simone, SO FIG

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They know they can’t make Suni next Simone, because Suni is going NCAA. USA’s girls rotate so much unless they go pro that they only repeat two or so years in a row in the same team, except exceptional cases like Simone or Aly, who went pro. They only want USA in the podium, as in other times they wanted other of the big countries and without Simone, Suni was the one to be favoured.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The Olympic AA champion with the sap story might go pro.

I have been sent a screen cap from someone where Suni says that the gold “The people I do it all for, I love you. It’s like literally the opposite of Simone saying she felt like she was doing it all for others and not for herself.

Played very well Suni. No one will convince me other wise.lol

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Wasn’t Suni already committed to some university?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She still doesn’t have to go.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

It is risky. Gymnastics are a fleeting carreer and very short, even at best. Maybe she can defer, but I would advise anyone to have a career to fall back on. If this was Europe, she could do half time for a nigligible price, but I know how crazy expensive is university there. I don’t know if she is going to make enough money to support herself long time just from Tokyo. Maybe now that she doesn’t have to renounce to anything can do a few gigs and defer until Worlds and then go?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She will make enough to pay for College. She has the sap story with the father. America is all about anyone not white now. She’s a goldmine. At least for awhile.

        We will see.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

She needs to realize Simone is still the star of this gig. As soon she steps up, she won’t be getting as much coverage. Hell, she won Olympic gold AA and people, four days later, is still talking more about Simone

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t consider anyone a newbie who went to worlds before the Olympics. Their name is known. Suni won a medal. Not new. Jordan is new (A few shit competitions here and there) Urasova and Listunova. Even the Gadirova twins.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Valentina went public, as you already now, but public opinion is heavily questioning it, including journalists and former board members of FIG and IOC, as happened yesterday. They had to release the announcement that we were talking about today, that it was something we have never seen them do, to face the criticism, and today’s cheating was way worse. Nothing will come of it, of course, but they might try to save face in the event finals, showing that they were being “strict” with the gymnast they are being accoused of favour. We realize that it is not a problem with Sunisa especially, but with the fuckery of corruption on favour of the big federations, but that is moot point for the judges anyway. But that conflicts with the necessity of favouring USA, as Sunisa is the only USA qualifyer in two event finals, so we will see.

All of this assuming all people hit, because we remember that Simone won a beam medal because all except for the top three fell on the final.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I need a link. I didn’t see what she said.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I saw it in passing, but I will try to find it. But it is the usual “USA was favoured” (true), “It was rigged from the start” (I don’t know if from the start, but around the middle, sure) “Melnikova was robbed by judges” (you choose the wrong Russian to be upset about). Latynina also spoke up against the judges favouring Sunisa.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I posted the Latynina stuff below.
I need the Valentina stuff. Melnikova’s gift on floor, Valentina should be quite. She was lucky to medal at all. Urasova is a different storyy

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

        It’s Valentina…

Almost five hours later and I am still pissed…I can’t believe myself. I should know better. I have been watching gymnasts being screwed for more than a decade by the powers that be in gymnastics. I don’t know why I thought these Olympics would be different

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I’m just done. I’ll follow until I find out who’s in vault then I am done.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I might scratch UB finals, because I usually chat online with friends on Sundays at 12.00 and see a horrible movie online and I told them I was going to be late because of UB final (who begins at 12.35 in Spain). After today, I am not sure I will not go to have a good time with my friends to see a corrupted institution do their thing one more time.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have a Wedding on Sunday. (Another damn wedding)

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Good luck. I hate weddings unless it is for a good friend. With family, if it is close, you work a lot, invest a lot of time and money and you never enjoy it because you are tending other duties. If it is for extended family, you don’t know anyone there but said family, who are people you almost never see and rarely of your age and interests. And if it is not from a close friend or a coworker, you don’t know almost anyone and you don’t invest so much money to get social. I really hate, hate weddings.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Outer Banks is out with a second season tomorrow. I’ll be watched that instead of gymnastics

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I don’t know what Outer Banks is, but enjoy. I am stupid, so I will probably watch it, but without paying attention, with my books, in case there is a surprise.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s a cheesy show on netflix but season 2 is out tomorrow 🙂

  133. JAS4 Says:

    Simone and Suni

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Simone has been acting like a lunatic since she pulled out. Giggling like she’s 12. Not buying it. Give it some time. Suni not getting the attention with all the medals. Or the other way around. These two looked enemies 2 days ago. I feel like i;m living in that Jim Carrey movie.lol

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

PREACH! I am so over the Simone shit. Suni (while I do not believe should have gotten Gold, my opinion) deserves the spotlight, not Biles. I will be disgusted if does the remaining events. I have a feeling she won’t. Here is to hoping she won’t, but we never know what is in that inflated ego head of hers. After Jade finished bars, she looked pissed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Why do you think Jade looked pissed?

We have two halves of a situation here. Suni will end up taking Simone’s spotlight and her true colors will come out (and by spotlight, I mean all her sponsorships and TV appearances, etc..) Or the opposite will happen and Suni will be part of articles like Gabby’s when she says, we aren’t really friends, we worked together for a common goal.

Simone used to be, buddy, buddy with a lot of other gymnasts. How many BFF’s has she had? (Kyla, Katelyn, Aly etc… (Until this tour and a few social media BS these two were never in the spotlight together. My point is when it comes down to it if they aren’t real friends we will see it. Either way I don’t care. Let them fight it out. The more famous these gymnasts become (in their 4 year fame) the less we hear about other annoying gymnasts.

There is a very limited shelf life for a gymnast.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        And, URAZOVA WAS ROBBED 🙂

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

Urazova was, 100 percent. I just am over these Olympics. It is still the Simone show and it is gross. She should head home, if media and pressure are the main reasons, which she seems to admit she needs to fly home. I know for a fact I would leave, especially if it is for my mental health.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think she will do beam in the finals. They better not screw chenchen or , WE RIOT!
If she hits beam I could see her doing floor too especially if Jade wins vault.

She needs to decide. it’s not fair to make others play the waiting game. Let them get prepared

      • monicakelly7488 Says:

I meant Simone looked pissed after Careys bars…I had two stations going, one with no Biles after every half second and one showing her constantly. After Jade completed her routine, Simone clapped like she was not impressed. Don’t know if it was regret for not being there or what. It was just weird and then the gymternet said something similar and retracted it. However, they pan to all their fans, she looked, well, pissed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Sorry I read it wrong. I saw her clapping for Suni. I kind of remember her clapping and looking mad.

    • JAS4 Says:

I still want to know what Simone is planning for EFs especially Vault! Since we haven’t heard anything it makes me think she is planning on competing

      • gymtruthteller Says:

We will have to wait until Saturday.

I have this, old co-worker friend. I HATE her daughter. She’s this, ridiculous, lazy, spoiled brat. She is like 35 years old. Doesn’t have a job. Sits on her ass all day, takes welfare because she’s too obese to work. Her and her girlfriend live with her mother , rent free. She treats my friend (her mother) like garbage. She eats her out of house and home. Goes to thrift store’s to buy her mother birthday gifts and makes her think she bought them from expensive store’s. (She once bought her 3, Red Sox books at The Christmas tree shop for 2 dollars a piece and gave them to her mother in an expensive local store’s bag to make it seem like she spent a lot. Bragged about it to me. I have a list of stories and when I used to visit my friends house I would have to sit there and act like Simone , laugh at her jokes. Pretend I didn’t want to smack her and tell her off. I mean, I was being respectful because I am in someone else’s house but as much as I would like to tell my friend what her daughter is really like, I sit there, politely, playing the part . That is why Simone and Suni remind me of.

My friend is at fault for this because she allows it to happen, not that it excuses the way she used her mother, spends all her money (She’s retired from a retail job. She isn’t rich. This daughter is putting her mother in debt. They have credit issues and back in the day before this woman’s husband died the daughter was a regular member of society. It’s just a horrible situation and also none of my business, so I stayed out of it but you can pretend to be nice to someone if you feel you have too.

      • JAS4 Says:

Yeah they’ve never seemed particularly close before. Also I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised now that she has seen Suni with the AA Gold medal if she makes a “surprise” turn around and decides to compete just fine in all EFs. I just feel bad for Skinner because I know she has probably got her hopes up about the possibility of competing in EFs for VT. I would think it would be hard for her not to get her hopes up. Only to be disappointed again one way or another because either Simone is fine and has no intention of letting her compete in VT finals or if Simone has issues again she will pull have to pull out mid competition and Mykayla will miss out for no reason.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have to believe that Skinner is still here for a reason. The 2 GB team members who won bronze have already gone home. They are not allowed to stay if they are not competing or a reserve. Lieke and Sanne are gone (I think) Our alternates are all gone.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Lieke is in Tokyo because she competed today. She was a reserve and got called after Ellie Black withdrew. Sanne is suppossed to stay until beam final, because they won’t know until hours before the actual final who is going to be on it and can be called to compete. She is third reserve and there are four gymnasts qualified at risk. But Lieke will probably go soon I think she is not a reserve for anything else.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I could have sworn I saw them say they left but I guess they didn’t.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Sanne said that they told her she was leaving the next day after quals, because she hadn’t managed to qualify for anything, but they backtracked when they saw that Flavia and Iordache were at risk. Simone’s withdrawal from TF and AA and Ellie Black’s injury reinforced that, as if three of them can’t compete, Sanne will be called. Lieke compited today, as she was first reserve, and Eythora alwas stayed as, I think, second reserve in AA.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I don’t think anybody who is 1-2 reserves, even if it is because of the two per country rule, is going home.

      • JAS4 Says:

I hope you are right GTT! I just hope that at the last minute Simone doesn’t change her mind and then Skinner still goes home without competing in VT finals. Also I am guessing that Simone isn’t going to say she isn’t competing anymore even if that’s the case because then she would likely have to head home immediately. I just hope like you said that Skinner is there for a reason and not just being strung along.

  134. sanitynmotion Says:

Sounds like figure skating judging was going on here.

OK, refresh about the Kerrigan comment. She should have won over Oksana B? I’m too young to remember this or my brain is too fried. I remember Kerrigan acting like a brat. And of course getting her knee bashed by Tanya Harding.

I feel like US gymnastics might go the way of US figure skating after Kwan retired. Only this time it will be Simone retiring. I could be wrong of course, I’m just getting this feeling.

Seems like the judging at the AA every Olympics yields scores that make no sense. I love the sport but it’s kind of disheartening.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kerrigan should have won the Olympics. Oksana made two mistakes. But I actually forgot what this discussion was about. lol (Covid brain is real) What did I say

      • sanitynmotion Says:

It was the Nancy Kerrigan hysteria comment in your post lol.

Although look at what that gold did to poor Oksana. I think it ruined her in a way. Too much fame, too fast.

        Covid brain is totally real.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have no clue what I meant and there are 400 freaking comments to look through. LMAO

I think the early mornings and late nights have contributed to me losing my mind.lol

    • imperatorcarolus Says:

Simone said after 2016 that she was retiring, and then come back. Many gymnasts retire after Olympics and this quad had been a year longer. Whoever decides to go for the next Olympics, needs to begin to train very shortly, because 2022 and 2023 are already qualificatory Worlds, without talking about the especialist route. If she is tired and she already wants to be another kind of live, with a partner, maybe explore another career, or something, she has already done and won everything. But I would be surprised if she won’t go for a last, redeeming Worlds before retiring with golds.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No way Simone goes for Worlds. That would be crazy.

Worlds is stupid this year. No more than 2 woman can compete on each event. That means the US will send 2, AA gymnasts. I think they can send 4 (or 3) I don’t remember but only 2 can comepete each event.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They can send 4. In any case, if Simone so wants, she will go. She can go in 2022 and use the excuse of helping the team to qualify for Paris excuse, as the first cut is at Worlds two years before the Olympics

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

And if she wants a competition with little threats to her, a post Olympics one is the best. Even if she is not 100%, she would win.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        The tour is happening.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Wouldn’t it be weird if it went ahead without her? There has been gymnasts scratching off tours from time to time and there are other gymnasts going. Could the Simone’s Golden tour go ahead…without Simone?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s her tour. Literally ran by her and her people.lol Don’t think so 🙂

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Wouldn’t it be interesting? I’ll check who else is going, because if she still isn’t well, they will have to think of something or return the money and deal with the participants.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

They are already one person down, probably. Danusia Francis was injuried in quals

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

There are still the same people. No new additions since the last time. She can hand it over to Jordan, Laurie, Morgan or Mykayla. It begins in late september, though, so she might be better by then.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The more we talk about this the more I’m starting to think it really did just get to her. The GOAT. The tour. The planning of the tour. She just lost it. Maybe it all manifested in her gymnastics. I still think her happiness now seems fake. She’s pretending to be happy. I hope she has a roommate to help her get through the night.

I wish she would just pull out and go home. Sleep in her own bed and just get some clarity.

But then I think it just seems calculated and ego-driven. Maybe the gymnastics mental block and ego not being fed , got to her. She bought into the, I am the best and can’t be beaten and then she was beaten (Suni day 2 of trials) and she fell apart.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I think it is legit. Mental health is a strange things and affect us differently. I do think it is legit and did the best for her, as gymnastics are so dangerous. However, that doesn’t mean that she isn’t aware of the publicity and repercussion she has gotten, much bigger and grander than if she had won. Politicians of countries where gymnastics are not important are talking about her. There are press articles in all the main newspapers around the world praising her. She has been hot topics on social media and TV for days straight, not an easy feat. If she was not aware of the public response when she pulled out (and I think she wasn’t) she definitely is now and for a woman who has won everything under the sun and then more, and has nothing much left to do in the sport, this could be even bigger for her and her future away from gymnastics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think this is a GYMNASTICS mental block that manifested because her coaches wanted to make a name off of her and since they were nice to her, she felt like she owed them.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I didn’t finish what I meant and can’t find the post. I think it manifested because she never learned to lose and can’t deal with not being the center of attention. Simone isn’t narcissistic like say Nastia is but look how she behaved when Morgan called her a bitch. She went straight to twitter/instagram to get her fans approval and help because someone didn’t like her (A lot of someones from what I hear)

It was easy under the last quad. She grew up with those girls and they knew they couldn’t beat her. She also never learned to deal with things. I hope she’s been in therapy since her days in foster care.

      • Maswid Says:

I think it could be a combination of things. she could very well have the twisties (or whatever mental block) AND legit not know how to deal with not being the best, or realized how asinine all her arrogance has been the past year. Like she might be fully aware that she isn’t capable of doing it for whatever reason, and she just spent the past year declaring herself invincible and now has to deal with the egg on her face and just couldn’t deal with it. At the end of the day I do think her ego played a huge role, either directly or indirectly.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Also, the people I know who like to brag the most about their successes (perceived or real) are amongst the deep down more insecure people I have came accross and used that bragging as a defense mechanism. Simone has always appeared as very secure of herself and of her superiority over the rest of her generation’s gymnasts, but the things with the GOAT and the Golden Tour and documental are pretty recent, since the pandemic (that really made a number with a lot of people’s mental health). It could be a combination on many things, but I do think her issues are legit and she did the right thing for herself taking a step on the side on these Olympics.

  135. imperatorcarolus Says:

Legitimate question: Someone knows anything of Holbura? I didn’t hear anything about her, and she was competing. As the only Romanian doing AA, I expected to hear something. I didn’t see her today, so I think she didn’t qualified AA.

    • JAS4 Says:

Right? When I’ve had my nails done in the past I get the pretty short and I still can’t imagine doing gymnastics with them! Also if you break on it hurts! On another note it’s officially Suni Lee Day in St.Paul.

  138. imperatorcarolus Says:

    • JAS4 Says:

This makes me think she will compete in VT and the rest of her events as well.

      • JAS4 Says:

I went to her instagram and it says she is still having trouble with them.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Yeah, she had a video on UB and wasn’t successful at landing. She seems to be struggling, as normally you publish not the first video, but the video of the best take/the one you want the others to know about. If she is training vault on a foam pit, there is no way in hell she should be risking an actual final. No way she should be risking herself. No medal compensates that, because everything can be fine and dandy, or you can end up like Julissa. Not worth the risk.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She didn’t even try and land that. She opened up and fell on her back on purpose.

      • JAS4 Says:

I agree she should not compete especially on VT or on anything else she is having trouble with. It’s not worth the risks. If she is able to do just a double back off beam and maybe a double back or double layout off bars and the rest is not affected then maybe she could do those with modified dismounts to avoid twisting.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I think it is not worth the risk if she is feeling unsafe. Too much can go wrong if she fails even to put one hand on floor and beam where she is suppossed to. And it is not like she is a newcomer who is afraid it is her only chance to success or that she would never be chosen for a National Team again if she doesn’t deliver. That doesn’t justify it, of course, but would explain how she would feel even more pressured to do at least event finals. Simone has the security and the pride of having obtained almost every medal under the sun, including Olympic ones, and then some. I hope she doesn’t risk her wellbeing and her future for another piece of metal.

I don’t think it will be doable to modify her original routines, especially vault and floor, in a safe, and competitive, manner in such little time. Simone has always been a very powerful and explosive stile and her routines usually have a lot of twisting. Time is needed to modify and introduce active and doable changes into a routine and I don’t think she has enough time.

While watching the replay of the AA competition in prime time last night (I know, the commentators…), I was shocked to see that the Biles gym still had that watch party they were selling tickets for. It is one thing to have a free watch party with family, it is another to sell tickets to an event that does not materialize the way it was advertised. Let’s be honest, the goal of that watch party was not to cheer on the US gymnasts in the AA but to cheer on Biles in the AA. I wonder did anyone think about cancelling or did any one ask for a refund.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

      • JAS4 Says:

After she retired I kind of thought Marta and Bela might go back to Romania before all the news of the Nassar stuff broke out.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I read somewhere that they recently moved back to Romania after selling Karoly ranch to some company, with legal troubles pending in USA. But they won’t get an important post in the federation. There are a lot of people there fighting to maintain their everlasting posts for decades and nobody is going to call them in with the problems and bad fame they came with from the USA, in a moment in which many gymnasts are protesting and presenting themselves against the Deva system. If they are in Romania, as I read, it is for retirement.

I think it is a smart decision, although I would have try to delay a little more and get to Worlds, given that they are so close. But it is not unheard of being both at National Team and the university? Wasn’t that what Mykayla did? I recognize it would be difficult, but doable (only if she wants to. If she finds herself realized with her medal, she might want to explore others venues of her life).

      • JAS4 Says:

Now that they have the new rule in ncaa that they can make money off of their image maybe she could do something along those lines to make money while still competing for college.

      https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2021/07/30/simone-biles-mykayla-skinner-preparing-replacement-vault/5426607001/

I don’t understand why they were trying to make her leave before VT finals anyways. If Simone or Jade had got hurt she would have been next in line. I really hope she gets the chance to compete in VT finals. No offense to Simone, but if she is still having these issues it would be unsafe to compete on VT especially. If she went ahead and tried she may end up having to withdraw mid competition again and Mykayla wouldn’t get the opportunity at all.

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

It seems the case of several replacement gymnasts, but my understanding is that most of them could successfully fight that off and stayed. I don’t know if the Japanese governement or restrictions regarding the people at Tokyo are pushing federations in this regard, but for example Sanne was told that she would have to go back home shortly after quals, and she is still in Tokyo despite her being third reserve for beam (and given how things are going, might finally be called to compete) and both Lieke and Eythora (first two reserves for AA final and Lieke competed). It seems to be more an issue of Tokyo governement than an issue specifically with Mykayla.

Simone out of VT and UB finals

I feel bad Simone, but at the same time I am happy for Skinner to get a chance to compete on VT in finals. I hope that the Landis have been able to help her clean up and improve vault some. I also hope that she gets a decent place in the line ups.

They didn’t help her. Allegedly Simone helped her
