My US Nationals wrap up, part 2…

Before I start, god help us but Lifetime is making a Simone Biles movie

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I must say up until Classic’s I wasn’t impressed very much with Trinity Thomas but after Nationals she was easily my favorite senior to watch. She needs to upgrade to be competitive but her beam was my favorite of the competition.
Anyone else notice that the scoring between day 1 and day 2 of Nationals took some dramatic turns for certain gymnasts?
I know Alyona Shchennikova made some mistakes day 2 but it seemed the judges decided they wanted no part of her on the off day. They also decided they loved Jordan Chiles between day 1 and day 2. When I came home and saw her scores I figured she finally lived up to the potential but she didn’t the judges just scored her like she did. Her beam routine on day 2 was easily the biggest gift of the entire competition.
When I first saw Ragan’s floor routine online I didn’t like it at all. My first impression was complete disgust. I just thought it was horrible but when I saw it online during Nationals I didn’t hate it as much and I finally figured out why, It wasn’t the same music. Apparently some guy on twitter sent Kim Zmeskal some comments about Dixie being racist so they changed the music, at least the beginning.
IG Magazine re-tweeted an article from some Christian website and then back tracked because some politically correct nut cases got upset. The guy received death threats and then he whined to IG it was their fault. Yet only a few days earlier he was proud of the trouble he had started because his tweet has been used in an article. The FUNNIEST part of all of this is the GGMB racists that were part of the biggest hate thread that place ever had made comments and or liked a comment about how wrong the music was on IG’s facebook page. Talk about ironic. Dude you and your co-horts seem to forget that anti-semitic hate filled thread YOU contributed to. Talk about hypocrisy… Go back to August 27th to read the comments.
Ragan also did her Patterson during podium training. but she didn’t compete it during Nationals. I guess she knew she didn’t need it but she needs to throw it if she wants to use it when it matters, like event finals.
Speaking of Ragan this is the SECOND article IG has had about Regan where the headline painted a comment she made as arrogant only to go inside to see that the full comment was anything but arrogant. Is International Gymnast Magazine turning into a tabloid?
Has there ever been a year after the Olympic Nationals that didn’t give a surprise Parkette? Margzetta Frazier
The fall of Morgan Hurd…
She came in with a chance at taking the Senior title and left as the biggest disappointment of the meet. This is what happens the gymternet decides you’re the next “it” girl even though your start values don’t merit the title.
I know. I know, I am mean. I do like Hurd. She is easily the most aesthetically appealing Senior gymnast to watch but this code has taught us year after year that artistic will never trump, skill unless your dad is Russian and friends with the HBIC. I expect Hurd to bounce back and camp and don’t think it will necessarily be a bad idea to send her to worlds to see how she manages the pressure BEFORE they put her in a team situation which leads me to my thoughts on who should make the World team…..     Who SHOULD or who will?
    Because those are two totally different teams.
    Should: Ragan, Jade, Trinity, Morgan.
    Will: Ragan, Riley, Jade, Ashton.
    • JAS4 Says:
      Just like it was when Marta was in charge…. there’s the team that most everyone knows should go then there is the team that USAG picks
    • Danielle Says:
      I like your “should” team, definitely a huge fan or Morgan but she didn’t do herself any favors at nationals.
      I laughed out loud when I saw Jordan’s day 2 beam score in comparison to the routine she did with all of the errors.
    • Gymbot Says:
      Riley is out with an injury. Your should team could go!
      • It's all about me Says:
        At the risk of sounding repetitive, as I’ve made this comment several times already, I’m going on record as saying that Riley is going to be the Lexie Priessman of this quad. She’s just too darn fragile. I don’t really have any major issues with her gymnastics. But if you’re always injured, then the quality of your gymnastics does’t really matter one way or the other.
  2. gymnerd Says:
    I so love your blog, GTT. That is all.
  3. gymtruthteller Says:
    Khorkina is on crack herself.lol
    That being said both Wiliams sisters being on ADHD medication is a bit suspicious. having dealt with children on thsi medication before they took i can tell you it’s needed.
    • Gymbee Says:
      Haha I read that. A colleague of mine has ADHD and the days she forget to take her medication there is zero work done for her (and partially for me as she wants to chat and use her pencils as drumsticks on everything).
      Seems like in Russia they don’t believe it’s a real condition.
  4. G Says:
    Riley out of worlds with injury. Things just got interesting!
  5. Gymnast41 Says:
    I knew Riley shouldn’t have competed at classics but it’s a very Maggie Haney thing to do to drive her gymnasts to the point of injuring themselves and having a tough time coming back. I’m actually kind of dissapointed that she overworked the poor girl because she had so much potential.
    Things just got interesting and chiles/Thomas may have a chance!!! I say now carey, chiles, Hurd, locklear is your team, with locklear only making it cause she’s besties with nastia. Not the strongest team ever and in fact may be the worst in years and is worrisome. But in a way it’s definitely a year for other countries to finally shine and make this a real world championships.
    • Cupquaked Says:
      Ragan is 1000000% making this team no matter what. She is the new Gabby but has routines to back herself up.
      The team now is probably: Ragan, Jade, Trinity, and Locklear.
      Maybe Hurd instead of Trinity. Maybe Chiles instead of Locklear. But pretty sure it’ll be Ragan, Jade, Trinity, and Locklear.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Locklear does not deserve to be on this team. She was over scored at Nationals
      • Cupquaked Says:
        Agreed. She’s not even the best bar worker in the US. The only way we’ll be taking one event gymnasts anymore is if they’re Maroney-level. I’d love for the team to be Ragan, Jade, Trinity, and Morgan.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Rumor is she has a 6 start value for camp but I am sorry why is she getting extra time when no one else did? It just seems like she is getting an unfair advantage that NO ONE not even Ragan is getting when it comes to being named to a team she hasn’t earned the right to be on.
      • Danielle Says:
        I just don’t see the reason to take Locklear even if she does have a 6.0 start value. Yeah her execution is pretty good but bars is stacked this year with many many people with higher start values than that.
      • Gymbot Says:
        Devils advocate: Locklear gets great E scores and also almost got a medal in 2014 when she was outclassed by every single gymnast in terms of difficulty. She is really competing against Schennikova for a bars spot.
        Ragan and Jade look like the best medal hopes, and Jade won’t compete AA so why not grab a bars gymnast? I would take Locklear over the younger gymnasts with her in bar work back.
        The second all-arounder could be Trinity, Hurd or Chiles and I’m ok with any of them. I like Hurd, but if Chiles has a second vault I like her for the medal haul. None of the other all arounders have a stand out event for a medal.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        2014 was 3 years ago. That kind of logic nearly put Nastia on an Olympic team. There is no way real judges when doing their jobs will take a 5.5 start value and give it a 6/7 tenth benefit compared to others on bars so taking her with a chance on making a final with no chance at a medal unless others faulters reminds me of Gabby last year. They brought a bars specialist for the sake of having one. I am sick of two sets of rules for which ever gymnast the US has deemed the next it girl.
        If Kutcher has a 6.0 start value she is consistently hitting at camp I won’t be too mad at her being chosen but if she still has the 5.5 she didn’t earn the spot.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Chiles is a mess. She finished second at Nationals with some of the biggest gift scores we have seen in a long time. Trinity is great but her start values are low though personally I found her a hell of a lot more watchable then anyone else at that meet (even Ragan) Hurd has her chance, she choked. Send her for experience but be honest about it because next year in a team event we will need to know if she has a shit in hell if landing up right.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Schennikova is also a mess. I would take Locklear over her
      • Gymbot Says:
        I guess there are two points to the argument, if Jade goes for vault and floor, there is a spot available bars. None of the other gymnasts save Riley were great at bars. With 6.0 and her high execution, Locklear could medal or at least beat Schennikova for a the bars spot.
        If they don’t take Jade, they could compete three all arounders for experience – but the US has plenty opportunities for testing athletes, so I don’t think sending them for “worlds” experience is of any value.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Trinity has a 5.8 start value on bars which is better than Ashton.
      • Gym Obsessed Says:
        Completely agree with you on Hurd, GT. I know why everyone loves her (her floor dance is easily the best) but neither her difficulty or her consistency have been proven. Ugh. I would love to see Ragan, Jade, Trinity and Hurd but I don’t think that makes sense. Probably Ragan, Jordan, Jade and Ashton.
      • It's all about me Says:
        Maybe it’s just the usual ‘year after the Olympics malaise,’ but I’m not overly excited about anyone.
        There’s a couple of people whom I think have the potential to be really good two years from now – if they’re still around.
        But what about right now…??? Sigh…
        We all know that Ragan is on the team unless a sink hole opens-up in North Texas and swallows her. Locklear more than likely will be on the team as the so-called ‘bars specialist,’ even though – as others have pointed out – she doesn’t add anything particularly ‘special’ this year.
        After those two…??? Who knows…??? Jesh.
        For me, the entire national team is just a garbled mish-mash of nothing.
        I know that sounds awful, but it’s true.
        However, this year, maybe the rest of the world is every bit as ‘blah’ as the U.S. and a panel of international judges won’t be able to distinguish ‘blah’ from ‘blah’ and the U.S. team will just fit right in.
        We can only hope.
      • Danielle Says:
        I’m not overly excited about anyone from the US (unless Morgan gets put onto the team), but there are lots of exciting prospects outside of the US. Liu Tingting is the strongest aa contender from China in awhile and her beam is great, the return of Iordache, Melnikova and Eremina. But these are all sentimental favorites for me too.
        If Chiles looks decently strong at camp and has a second vault my prediction is that she will take Riley’s spot. She has an amanar, a possible vault final spot and was second at nationals (granted she was over scored in my opinion). I would much rather them take Trinity or Morgan but my favorites never seem to have it all together haha
      • Mim Says:
        Hurd is coming back from injury right? She’s not at full capacity so I’m still hopeful she’ll rock it this quad, although I’m sure she’s ready for this worlds.
        I’m not feeling the Jade Carey love (from people in general, not from here) to be honest. I think her floor is fine, but it has no pizazz or finesse. I think I’d be okay with her not making the team but that’s doubtful. Maybe she’ll surprise me.
        I’d love a team of Ragan, Morgan, Trinity and Jordan haha but that’s never going to happen.
    • Gymnast41 Says:
      Forgot Ragan oops…yes she is my definite. I definitely don’t think Ashton should be on this team either but….politics
      • It's all about me Says:
        I don’t even know who ‘my worlds team’ would be.
        But I’ll make a prediction as to whom ‘those in charge’ will send:
        1.) Ragan (Duh)
        2.) Locklear (Just because)
        3.) Jade Carey (Extremely outside chance of getting a bronze medal in vault final if about 4 people ahead of her fall. Twice.)
        4.) Trinity Thomas or Jordan Chiles (Because it would look really bad if the U.S. only sent three gymnasts to worlds this year)
        And that’s all I got.
  6. imperatorcarolus Says:
    Just saw the movie “Bronze”. It is horrible. And the most icky sex scene I have seen in a mainstream movie in a long time.
    • greytealbluemom Says:
      The bronze was not a mainstream film. The nominate list for the US team was smith mccusker carey and locklear. I see that staying except chiles / Thomas / Hurd replacing mccusker.
    • Mim Says:
      Yeah that sex scene was tragic. I know it was supposed to be humourous but it was ick.
    • imperatorcarolus Says:
      In Spain it was announced as mainstream, but it was awful. I don’t know what the real Dominiques and Korbut were doing there. Everything was just horrible. And has little traces of comedy. The only time I smiled was when Hope was with Monceanu and told about that brasilian they shared because I can almost believe that joke.
  7. The Dude Says:
    Am I the only who thinks Khorkina has suddenly lost her mind lately? Check this shit out:
    http://www.wogymnast.com/2017/09/svetlana-khorkina-thinks-she-should.html?m=1
  8. imperatorcarolus Says:
    Vanessa Ferrari returns to competition today at Final serie A with prospects for Worlds, given how bad seniors did at Italian Championships. You can see it in the Italian tv Volare live: https://www.volare.tv/.It begins at 15.30 in Spain.
  9. imperatorcarolus Says:
    Russia confirms its nominative rooster for Worlds: Eremina, Paseka, Melnikova and Iliankova, despite the rumours about Paseka and Iliankova’s injuries. Kharenkova is the alternate. Also, Alla Sostniskaya has been given the ok to go to compete for other country. I think I read Belarus but I am not sure.
  10. imperatorcarolus Says:
    Ferrari ended up second in the Final serie A of Italy after Mori, so she is probably going to Worlds.
  11. It's all about me Says:
    On an unrelated note…
    I’ve been re-watching Day 2 of P&G again. When I watched the competition the first time, I thought that Jade Carey’s floor music reminded me of ‘something’ – but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
    Well, just now, I figured out what it reminds me of: the eerie, creepy, music from the classic 1978 horror movie ‘Halloween.’
    The music that’s being used for Jade’s floor is very reminiscent of that recurring, staccato piano theme, except that it’s played on some kind of an accordion or concertina.
