F*** NBC. 1 year ago today

Screen Shot 2017-07-09 at 11.13.24 PM

The 2016 Olympic Trials were one year ago today. We can’t get video because everything good won’t let you embed on youtube because NBC FUCKING SUCKS. That is all:)

So I stole a picture from their website and of course it had to be Simone.

I remember this like it was yesterday. Maggie refusing to go to camp. Mykayla and Ashton retweeting or liking all the tweets that they were robbed. Gabby crying like she deserved her spot and hearing her mother knew ahead of time she was on the team regardless of how she did that day which is why she acted like she did. Simone kicking ass and taking names. Laurie being over scored. Kyla not being there. Me thinking of Rebecca Bross not making the team in 2012 ( I know I was shocked too) Aly being Aly and hitting when she had too. Brenna and company being ignored by NBC altogether. Nastia being a two faced phony fucktard. Tim and Nastia insisting Gabby should still be on the team even though she was the only one not to hit even tho you know Tim really felt that spot should have been Mykayla’s ( he practically said it when he mentioned how he felt bad for her). Me rooting for Madison Kocian to hit. Gabby crying after falling off beam and me feeling sorry for her for about half a second. Steve Penney running into the “decision” room to make sure Marta did her job and added Gabby even though she didn’t deserve it. Ashton falling off beam and her dad saying, it’s over. Ragan Smith nailing beam day 2 after sucking big time day 1. Hundley going 8 for 8 and never being shown and lastly but not leastly (its late) Kocian making this team for bars over Ashton even though she only beat her once the entire year, day 2 at trials.

So what do you remember?????

More than anything, I remember watching the Trials with some family friends and all of us cheering when Gabby fell (except for the girls’ dad, who thought we were horrible people) and being PISSED when Gabby made the team.

    That basically sums it up…

I am still mad to the NBC, because I don’t have any way to watch the trials from Spain and I really wanted to watch them at a later date (2012,2008, 2004 and 2000 trials are on YouTube and they don’t let this one to be added). Why the hell does it matter for them a year after the event for it to be on YouTube?

  4. G Says:

Oh man. Actually going to trials was one of the most awesome experiences of my life but day two was also he most frustrating! I tried to watch the finals for memories sake yesterday and it was the first time I had heard the commentators and you’re right that Tim was definitely rooting for Skinner but had to stick to his Pro-Gabbu script.

It was insane how much the crowd loved Gabby there, I kept looking at my mom and being like, “Why?”. She looked like an apathetic brat the whole time. Then you have Skinner who is so happy to be nailing everything and Maggie who just made this incredible comeback! And everyone cares about the has been who sucked both days? So bizarre.

I really don’t know if I’ll ever truly get over my anger over this team. The trouble with the USA being so deep in talent is that they can take who they want instead of who is actually best for the job and still get gold. Then all the idiots justify Gabby being there. No matter what she’ll always be the only AA champ without an EF medal and that speaks volumes.

  5. Mim Says:

I remember being SO mad for Mykayla and genuinely shocked that Gabby was chosen (then after the shock, really mad for days though I should have never been surprised). Pleased Ragan was an alternate. Heartbroken for Maggie. Thrilled for Simone and Aly. Wishing I had seen Meals and Brenna compete.

    • gymnerd Says:

I really could never get too mad at Skinner for re-tweeting that Photoshopped picture of her on the team in place of Gabby, because you know what, she SHOULD have been on that team. Girlfriend just had the guts to tell it the way it was. I kind of like that she’s apparently telling USAG to go f()(k themselves, though I feel bad that she won’t get that world title.

  6. Case Says:

I remember Rhonda Faehn coming out of the decision room looking like she was going to cry. Because she knew what happened in there was wrong. She knew.

Killing children’s dreams for politics is not for the faint of heart…

I knew Gabby was going no matter how many times she fell. Also knew she would be given a chance to redeem the AA title. All written on the wall and the commentators were given their taking points re: Gabby

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I seem to remember how mad everyone looked. Maybe they fought to keep her off. I always got the impression it was Penny that wanted her no matter what. Marta knew they would win anyway so she went along.

      Brutal

I remember I had Crap seats and had to go up a bunch of stairs at the arena. Also that I had to miss Hello Kitty day the ATT park

  9. Gymbot Says:

Gabriel McDonough’s channel on YouTube has Day 2 of trials if anyone is looking to relive it.

I’m still upset for Maggie, she was a top gymnast going into 2014 worlds and Marta made her compete for a month straight (camp, classic, Nationals, pan ams?) and she ended up injured. What’s retarded about it is she got injured on floor but they were “testing” Ashton and someone else who couldn’t vault and Maggie had to vault on a bad knee! Then she comes back stronger and better than Gabby and Aly TBH and doesn’t get an AA spot in 2015! And then Rio. I’m so angry still.

I know Maggie couldn’t make a final at rio in her come back state and MyKayla Skinner could have snagged a vault medal for the count but I wanted her on that team. And NBC not showin the others pissed me off! I’m grinding my teeth typing this!

  10. Cupquaked Says:

I remember people (and me) being so pissed that Mykayla was an alternate. And then Marta saying Ashton would be the first in line if a gymnast was injured…like that didn’t even make any sense. She’s a one event gymnast and all the girls on the team minus Alli could have been the 2nd American to qualify for the bar final…..

I think that last summer really turned me off of gymnastics. Like 2012 was so dramatic but overall, right. Like yes, Jordan was robbed, but Gabby earned her spot that year on the team. There was not dispute about who should have been there. But Rio. It was CLEAR who didn’t belong. And the politics have kind of ruined the sport a little for me. And then the Nassar thing and it’s just a mess. I’m just not excited about it anymore.

I hope Valeri takes the USAG in a different direction. It needs a do over.

    • Case Says:

Something tells me Valeri is not the answer. He’s from the old guard too.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What happened to Wofford tells me Liukin isn’t the answer. He’s everything Bela is when not in front of the media so he’s just as bad.

      • G Says:

        What happened to Wofford?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Really? And you call yourself a gymnastics fan . 🙂 I’ll explain when I get home .

      • G Says:

You insult me and then leave me hanging!! Lol 😂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I forgot lol go to google and look up , has Mackenzie wofford quit gymnastics them read the comments. Somebody related to someone has a lot to say in the comments section about what happened . Then she tried to defend herself pretending she was Someone else but I called her out. If you don’t do this by the time I get home I will explain. Sorry to leave you Hanging lol

      • G Says:

Ah ok just read the comments. That sucks for her. I saw from her instagram that she just had a spinal fusion to correct her scoliosis. I had the same surgery when I was 12 and the recovery was brutal. Poor girl.

  11. Mim Says:

Which seniors have carried over from the previous quad? I feel like there is no one left except for Ragan, Ashton and maybe Norah and Gaskins. Are the rest new seniors from this year?

  12. imperatorcarolus Says:

    More problems for Romania:

    http://www.wogymnast.com/2017/07/rumor-has-it-is-romanian-gymnastics.html

I can’t confirm that Florea is in Spain. I have no news in this regard, but Roxie had to wait several to obtain the nationality, it was conceded extraordinarily and her family had been in Spain for serveral years, so I don’t know how well that is going to go, even if this rumour is confirmed.

    • dianajc99 Says:

Wow is there anybody left in DEVA?

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

Something smells more rotten than usual in Deva. We all know that Romania is in tatters right now, but why is this happing now and not one year before, for example? Everybody seems to be leaving at the same time, so I think something out of the ordinary is going on, but I don’t have any idea of what. Especially when gymnasts are leaving Romania for countries where they don’t have better prospects than in Romania in medal terms. Hungary is on the rise, but Spain doesn’t have a strong program or prespectives right now.

    • dianajc99 Says:

could be better financial compensation for medals like all the athletes who go to Azerbijian

      • imperatorcarolus Says:

I don’t think so, it’s too many people at the same time. Even in countries where gymnastics isn’t an influential sport, defections to other countries are rare and they are usually girls who had some connection to that other country (like Annia Hatch when she married an American or Nastia, who was born in Russia but lived all her life in America) or who didn’t count for their home country and they try to have better oportunities on other countries. This is not the case with Romania, because they need these girls, they would be representing Romania (and all the power that country still has on gymnastics albeit a very disminished one) in Worlds and Europeans (hell, Cimpian was in this year’s European Championships at Romania) and they are going away against Romania Federation’s wishes. The don’t seem to be going to other countries looking for better opportunities to compete or improve; they seem to be running away.

      • Cupquaked Says:

I’m really scared they might have a similar situation to the Nassar thing or maybe the Karolyi’s were supposed to go to Romania but for some reason pulled out? Idk.

      • dianajc99 Says:

that could be DEVA is pretty secluded

  13. dianajc99 Says:

    Simone wins the ESPY

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No one cares. Seriously tho I was going to live blog the ESPY’s but then I realized I would have to actually watch it so there went that idea out the window.lol

    • dianajc99 Says:

I know its the most pointless award show there is..
I think it only exists to see athletes in formal attire.

  14. Gymbee Says:

Oh wow your post brought back all those feelings from last year! Perfectly summed up!

Apparently Nassar is getting a federal plea bargain, and there’s been another civil suit against him in LA from parents of an alleged victim.

“The Los Angeles suit describes the alleged victim as gymnast who competed for the U.S. in major international and domestic competitions. While training and competing for the U.S. the woman, then a teenager, was “ subjected to sexual harassment, abuse and molestation by Nassar” in California, at the Karolyi ranch and other locations in the U.S. and foreign countries from 2009 to 2013, according to the suit.”

    • gymnerd Says:

I’ve been reading this over at IG and it’s kind of weird how everyone avoids using her name, using the oh so dramatic “This JD,” when it’s perfectly obvious who they’re talking about. It’s like they’re trying to play, “I know something and you don’t!”
