Oklahoma wins National Title in College Gymnastics

Going to bed. Will add a picture in the morning. Nice gifts in prelims UCLA and LSU but Oklahoma completes perfect season winning every meet and National title.

I didn’t really keep up with NCAA (I never do), but super happy for Maggie. Seems like Kyla, Kocian, and skinner had good freshman years as well.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

Yay Maggie you retaliate with an epic win…and I hope she won the AA?

  3. Ss Says:

No question the best team won. That was an unbelievably dominant meet but can I vent about how stupid it is that there are no event finals. It makes no sense that they are judging events/AA across two sessions–especially since the judging was much looser the 2nd session. They either need to go back to having finals or stop giving out individual awards and make it solely team.
    Rant over 馃檪

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No event finals is a joke. Maggie could have won all 4 if she competed in later session.

    • dianajc99 Says:

the EF a NCAA were very strange. they had all events going at once because of the number of athletes that qualify( all ties in the top 8 go, so it like 12 per event) Also like a team line up the best scores tended to go to the gymnasts who went near the end of the line up.

  4. Cupquaked Says:

Is there no AA anymore in NCAA? Maggi deserves that distinction! Also, I’m a huge LSU fan ever since Les Miles became the head coach for the football team. And just to point out, LSU had an almost undefeated season except for the one meet against Oklahoma. But Oklahoma definitely deserved the win! They are absolutely the best team in NCAA right now. Also I’m just happy Gnat won the AAI award and that Maggie crushed it and scored a perfect 10. And that LSU topped Alabama again (I hate them 馃檭). Not happy that UCLA got so close to LSU…their floor choreo is terrible and I’m not a fan despite Ohashi and Ross on the team.

  5. Roc铆o Mart铆nez L贸pez Says:

Larissa is just doing two apparatus at the Europeans (UB & beam most likely). No AA title for her in her home. Fuck.

    • Gymbot Says:

Who do you like for the medals Rocio?

      • Roc铆o Mart铆nez L贸pez Says:

Well, there is a lot of new faces this year, being a new Olympic cycle and I am not familiar with all the gymnasts present at this Euros. But with the decline of Russia and Romania, new nations can monopolize the medals. If I had to bet for the AA, I would put my money on Ellie Downie. If she survives beam, her floor, bars and vault are very competitive and she has retained her Olympic level. This meetings should be hers. With Lari not doing AA, Romania has just two semi-unknown gymnasts to do the AA with very low difficult scores. Alt from Germany has won a lot of competitions and could be a possibility. I would love to see in the podium one gymnast from the netherlands, possibly Eythora. But I would not count Russia out. I don’t think Melnikova would make the podium. Her confidence seems to have been totally smashed and she has counted at least two falls in all previous competitions since the Olympics. In fact, if she doesn’t hit tomorrow, she could be left out of the AA final, as Kapitonova and Eremina are just behind her. Yesterday, she has falls again in PT and was completely OOB in If any Russian get an AA medal, I would say it will be Eremina. She is much more consistent than Melnikova and has better starting value than Kapitonova, who only has a FTY and weaker floor. So I think that Ellie Downie and GB in general will be one of the stars of this Euros. In beam, I want Lari to win. She can get to UB finals, but with GB and Russia here, as well as a great Greek girl with very interesting bars, I don’t think she will win. She presented yesterday a + 6.00 beam and seemed consistent with it. In comparision, Cata’s D score was higher, but she was very shaky. She was shaky and heavily spotted in her new floor as well, so I am very doubtful about Cata after yesterday’s videos and there is several specialists in beam in these Championships (we have Lari of course, but also Sanne and that frech girl whose name I never remember, but has a very pretty routine). Vault should be for Paseka and Ellie. I wish Chuso was her to win this event this year. In floor GB should win with its two gymnasts. Both Ellie and Claudia have greater D scores than the rest and are pretty consistent.

      • Gymbot Says:

Great that’s a lot! Seems like we might be in for a mix of surprises

  6. Ilanchik20 Says:

There is AA in NCAA. Maggie fell on beam during the day they picked AA winner so no AA for her. Alex McMurty won AA. Skinner was second.

While I don’t like Oklahoma, they won fairly. I do wish LSU had a better meet. It should have been much closer. There really needs to be a day off between day 1 and super six.

Florida looked good. UCLA got 4th–huge improvement for them.

Alabama was a hot mess but they are getting Peyton and Bailie next year so watch out.

And I’m not talking about Utah because they shouldn’t even been in super six with that barely 197 score lol.

  7. Roc铆o Mart铆nez L贸pez Says:

Euros’ podium training was today! The All Around published some videos on Twitter and Facebook. Here is Larissa’s beam:

    Cata’s beam:

    • Gymbot Says:

This is the best she’s looked and adding the extra loso seems like a good move. Here she’d get 6.3 with all of her connections. Iordache has 6.2

  10. Roc铆o Mart铆nez L贸pez Says:

    Kapitonova’s UB:

    Evangelina Plyta’s UB:

  13. Roc铆o Mart铆nez L贸pez Says:

Paseka’s Cheng. (God help this girl… I don’t wish retirement on anybody if they think they are not ready, but in Paseka’s case, I really think she is suffering).

  16. Utah Fan Says:

snippy comment about Utah not belonging in the Super 6 – scoring was tighter in the first session – they qualified – snotty comments not necessary. They had a great year – definitely belonged in the finals. Maggie fell – she handled it better than the rest of the world. She is amazing and obviously realized her error with grace – you should too. Sick of Utah being bashed – skinner being demolished – they competed with only 75% of their team and did well. Have a little class

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t approve new people so not sure how long you will be allowed to comment but I agree with you 100%. I don’t know what comment you are reacting too but I know its not mine because I agree with you about Utah. There seems to be a lot of bitter fans when it concerns Utah and they have hidden agenda’s for hating Skinner. Carry on

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

It’s my comment. I like Skinner–well her gymnastics anyways. I just don’t think they looked great in session 1. And they would have never made it, if they were in a second season.

But just my personal feelings. As many people hate utah, there are just as many who hate LSU or OK or Florida.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Why doesn’t anyone hate UCLA? I find them way more annoying than anyone else.lol

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Oh, and I didn’t say anything about Maggie. I just explained why she didn’t win. She did handle it with grace.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Utah Fan I appreciate your comment and opinion, but don’t think it’s really nice nor necessary to tell Ilanchik to “have a little class.”

I am not a fan of UCLA either. Over-rated. I love Kyla though, so that one’s tough.

I’m a Skinner fan (after Trials last year, when she rocked it and showed why Gabby’s inclusion was a total gimme)…and I hope that she goes back to elite. It seems like her strengths are what’s now missing on the US. I hope the same for Maggie too. Both of those girls were ultimately screwed (but at least Skinner got to say she was an alternate).

  17. lovelucas Says:

Glued to the tv during the competition. I did think there was a difference in scoring between the 1st and 2nd session. Love Skinner, the amazing Maggie and also agree they were both royally screwed by Marta and her gang 鈥 so glad they鈥檙e all gone. I was at the trials and it was infuriating to see the shit in person. Maggie was so lovely 鈥 she and Simone have a connection and Simone cried when Maggie didn鈥檛 make the team. Back to NCAA: Again 鈥 I鈥檓 a Skinner fan and also love Utah, and OK and LSU and Alabama (Dana! I used to judge her 鈥 as in gymnastics). FL is okay, I don鈥檛 like Georgia but I鈥檓 working on that. I think UCLA is cool and I like their choreography uniqueness. I root for Michigan but they can鈥檛 seem to pull it together nationals..ever.
