So, what did everyone think of the World Figure Skating Championships? I like Diva Wagner in spite of myself, but she didn’t do herself any favors here.

    • G Says:

I really don’t know too much about scoring for figure skating but it *seemed* like a fair podium. I can’t send Wagner lol but I like Chen and she did well despite the fall. And the Russian girl who won was nice to watch. It will be interesting to see who the US ends up sending to Seoul.

Aly still expects to keep Mihai as a coach, because he’s only in Australia for natl team camps. She says she thinks Sylvie will be her coach on the floor for competitions but that she’s sure Australia would be accomodating should she need to speak to Mihai.

  6. SS Says:

I feel like she probably has talked with Mihai about all this before saying anything. I think it’s telling that he isn’t moving to Australia and is going to continue to own his gym. Frankly, they’re probably so thankful that they are getting him that they are willing to accommodate whatever he asks for, (within some reason). Coaches coach other gymnasts all the time, it is not really any different. The reason Valeri needed to give up personal gymnasts was because he is directly responsible for who makes the teams. Aly won’t be competing for Australia so this isn’t the case for her.

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I think that Mihai might have talked about it beforehand with his current employers. They might make allowances for his current gymnasts, telling him he could keep coaching them (if that doesn’t interfere with his responsabilities) but not take any new ones so, when they all retire, he would be free to devote himself to Australia. I find it difficult for him to be National Team Coach without being there for long periods of time, especially taking into account that Australia is a developing program that will need a lot of work in lower levels as well as with the seniors. Maybe he will take a few years to test the waters and see if he could mantain controling the gym in USA and such things. But I have my reservations that he can mantain both ends in a long term. But it is just a guess. Also, Aly is not a newcomer by far, and knows her profession well. She probably doesn’t need as much help by her coach as a recent senior gymnast, so that does give him more freedom.

Rebecca Tunney from GB has announced her retirement. 😦

    • Cupquaked Says:

I remember watching a beam routine of hers a few years ago where she fell like 3 times. She seemed like such a sweet kid but could never really handle big competitions. Is she going to compete NCAA?

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I don’t have any news that she is going to go to the NCAA. I think she is retiring for health reasons. I liked her; she was enjoyable to watch when she hit, especially on floor. I remember her mostly from the GB team that got team silver in the European Championships.

      • Gymbot Says:

        She also had great bars!

It’s weird for me that I’m not even following the seniors at this point. All I recognize in this photo is Ashton. I guess I’m in denial Simone is gone.
