What happened to Melnikova? Last year everyone was so excited about her. She was a contender for the AA in Rio and then got Weiber-ed out of it and since then she’s been…disappointing.

  2. JAS4 Says:

Now just wait for them all to have Nastia’s bar routines 😂

  3. dianajc99 Says:

people throwing a shit fit because Skinner not voted freshman of the year.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Is this for all college gym or for just whatever part the school is from ? Because all should go to Maggie . Skinner should be freshman of the year for her division, hands down.

    • dianajc99 Says:

      For her conference PAC12.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Who beat her ? With the year she had that seems suspicious .

      • dianajc99 Says:

        Kyla Ross

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No way, Kyla deserved this over Skinner. There isn’t even any reasoning they can come up with for voting her. You know I love, Kyla but this is because she’s a Gold medalist. Hell even Kocian would deserve it over, Kyla.

      • Gymbot Says:

I think Skinner should have got it – she is a top scorer in the AA nation wide and won Pac 12. She was a bigger part of her team for Utah than Ross was for UCLA.

      • Mim Says:

I adore Kyla and can’t stand Mykayla’s cocky attitude but Mykayla has absolutely backed herself up with her gymnastics. She definitely should have won that award over Kyla but I have no idea what criteria they are looking at. Kyla has been great this season though, have loved watching her compete.

Mykayla has absolutely thrived in college. I’d be so down with her giving elite another go for worlds this year, even moreso than Maggie.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Is this award based on college career or pre-college career? Sounds like Ross got it for being a former Olympian who has also competed well in college?

I figured Ross to be a shoo-in for college gym. I was always told in college it’s more about how you perform an element as opposed to difficulty. I’m actually surprised Mykayla is doing so well in college giver her crap form. Has it actually improved that much? I don’t follow college gym at all.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

College gym in general sucks but I have been following this year for Maggie, Kyla and Mykayla. I wish Kyla had gone any where but UCLA

      • SS Says:

I agree that Mykayla should have won it but I guess the reasoning is Kyla has the most 10s for the season in the PAC-12. I dunno, I sure like Kyla way more tho, lol

      • Cupquaked Says:

MyKayla’s form has massively improved over the last year. The coaches at Utah probably sat her down and explained how NCAA is less about difficulty and more about perfection.

I know she’s had a long road as an elite and she was definitely screwed out of the Olympics because of politics but since Penny and the Karolyi’s are gone, if Mykayla goes through college injury free, I could see her vying for a spot in Tokyo. If she goes to worlds this fall, I think she could win the AA, vault, and maybe even floor. People talk about international judges killing her for form but every time she’s competed for the US internationally, she’s been scored really well.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t see her winning worlds but she could win vault and even floor especially if she controls that double double like she has in College. I want her to go so badly. Watching her win worlds would piss so many people off. It would amuse me:)

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        I’d love to see that.

I haven’t been following much about the elites now – the “leftovers.” I would love, love to see Maggie and Mykayla make comebacks. They got royally screwed for the Gabbie gravy train.

      • SS Says:

Definitely agree with you there. Frankly, both Mykayla and Maggie could easily beat all of the current us elites. People ride Mykayla’s form but there are tons of gymnasts with form issues both in the US and internationally. Even Aliya has crazy helicopter legs on all of her twisting elements.

      • Gymbot Says:

Cupquaked what you said I believe with all my heart. Making the Tokyo team of four gymnast could be hard but she definitely got screwed by the powers that be – Nichols and possibly Key too

  4. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Germany won gold in Stuttgart Cup in the Team Competition. Russia is very, very screwed. Cata won Floor and Beam at Baku, but her scores are very low. I don’t know yet if they are so because of the new code or something else happened.

    • Gymbot Says:

No fall, but rough landings on the whip whip to full-in piked and the double pike dismount. 13.433 would have scored 13.933 in the old code, so part of it was Catalina and part of it is getting used to the scores.

Her beam is on the same site, same thing. Great routine but a big stumble on the dismount.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Thank you, Gymbot. I really think she should change her beam routine. I know it is her traditional one, but with the new code it doesn’t work. 13.933 is a very low possibility in an apparatus were the people who is going for the medals have scores close to 14.5 or 15. Sanne had 14.466 in Rio’s finals and we have seen her scoring more, for example.

      • Gymbot Says:

I think for Catalina it’s all in the E score. She made three big changes to net a dfficulty between 5.8 and 6.2 depending on which combos she hits. I’m not sure what was the breakdown of her actual score received, but I think 5.8 is probably what she got in Finals. Maybe she was seduced heavily on the split ring elements and of course her stumble on the dismount, probably a point off between those mistakes.

      • Gymbot Says:

Phone autocorrected deducted to seduced in the last comment…

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I understood, Gymbot (however, knowing Cata, the seduced bit was hilarious). The problem is that Cata doesn’t seem to be able to do the connections properly in the last few competitions I have seen her and, with the new code, she gets heavily deducted. She isn’t as clean as she used to, either. I do think that some changes adapted to the new code would do her good.

  5. gymnerd Says:

Skinner’s dad on their YouTube channel though….OMG. Apple didn’t fall far from the tree in that family. LMFAO.

  10. Melissa Says:

Idk if this is too gossipy but it looks like Aly and her boyfriend broke up

    • gymtruthteller Says:

We are fine with gossip here. I am kind of glad if that is true. I wouldn’t want to see Aly marry the first guy she dates and end up in divorce like a lot of other gymnasts.

  11. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Ellie Downie is the new British Champion. Good routines for GB, including a new routine for Fragapane (good one, but needs polishing) and a great set of bars for a new senior. GB is still going strong!
