  2. cupquaked Says:

It’s almost too hard to read that article and watch the video. But part of me is so glad this is becoming national news. Someone the other day messaged me on facebook about the Indie Star stuff and asked my opinion and when I told her that this had been news in the gymnastics community for years she was appalled. I am looking forward to justice for the victims and a complete reworking of the USAG. Will we get both in a timely manner? Who knows. But it’s blatantly obvious that changes will need to be made. There’s too much attention on it now to go about “business as usual” anymore.

    • G Says:

Agreed. I saw the 60 minutes last night and it was clear that, had the Karoly’s taken the correct precautions at the ranch, this guy would not have had near as many victims. I don’t know if there is any way to prove they knew about his abuse but they certainly knew he was alone with these girls in their rooms. Just awful.

      • Cupquaked Says:

I read on FloGymnastics that 368 gymnasts have come forward with allegations of abuse in the last 20 years. That’s an insane number. When did the Karolyi’s come to the US? The 80s?

Is gold really worth that much to Steve Penny that he will sacrifice the well being of thousands of young children to get it? And what about men’s gymnastics? I know WAG gets a lot of attention but if it’s so rampant on the women’s side, it begs the question of what might be going on in MAG.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Penny wasn’t in charge in the 80’s. Not sure how long Colorossi was in charge but it was at least early 90’s.

Just read an article on Antolin and frankly her mother is a huge reason this all happened. Her mother knew her coach verbally abused her and she even confronted him, then she DID NOTHING. What kind of parent sits around and lets their child be abused? How is this teen at the time going to confront him when her mother sits by and lets it happen. No wonder Jeanette didn’t know what was happening was wrong.

      • dianajc99 Says:

Antolin got double screwed, first petersen and then Nassar

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Antolin is a walking disaster in the sense she has done a lot of questionable things in her life like getting kicked out of UCLA and going out drinking with the guys at Worlds in 1999 and her lawyer really rubbed me the wrong way with his comments about the 96 Olympic team ( basically insisting one of them was molested and hasn’t admitted it yet) She seems like a classic case of someone who was abused as a child, acting out. Or she could just be a typical teenager with too much freedom.

Child molesters tend to pick someone that will not speak up. That is why, IMO we are seeing names like Dantzscher and Antolin and others who have acted out in the past on these lists. This is why it’s taken 17 years for anyone to speak out.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Who was the person that came forward first? That’s a big hero. Because now all these other victims feel like they can come forward too and not have to be the only one in such a harsh spotlight.

I have to wonder about Atler…she was a mental case and she was Dantzscher’s teammate at one point, no?

  3. Dee2 Says:

Reading about the sexually abuse allegations brought back the horrors of the 2000 Olympics. Then I found an article about Elise Ray that was pretty interesting. Sorry if this has been posted before.
    http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw-huskies/uw-gymnastics-coach-elise-ray-in-good-place-after-overcoming-olympic-disappointment/

    • gymtruthteller Says:

This is going to be my biggest issue with all of this. I am sorry this happened to them but it doesn’t excuse them for the way they acted . Bela was tough. I get it but this doesn’t excuse Jamie and the way she treated Tasha or them sneaking out to drink with the guys at the 99 world’s . That group of gymnasts acted self entitled especially Jamie . Elise was disppounted she didn’t get a parade or endorsements well if she was a better gymnast and had won a medal she would have. The fact that she thinks she deserved something says it all about her attitude .

      • the dude Says:

Hey GT. I’m just curious…do you have a link or sources that talk about the things that were done specifically to Tasha?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nope. It’s just known they were mean to Tasha because they wanted their friend on the team and instead Tasha was named.

      • G Says:

        Who did they want instead?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Alyssa Beckerman. She was the alternate and the story goes even MLT , Alyssa’S coach voted Tasha to be used when someone for hurt because Alyssa was a headcase in training .

  4. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Larissa is out of the Sttutgart Cup. Shit.

  5. gymtruthteller Says:

I am going to start a rumor here and say Chellsie Memmel is pregnant again. Anyone think she looks it in this picture? Oh and in case you didn’t grasp this as AN OPINION BASED ON THE PICTURE i WILL SAY IT AGAIN.LOL

  6. Cupquaked Says:

Nassar has been charged with 9 counts of assault to girls aged 16 to as young as 9. One charge comes from Michigan State and another from the town Twistar’s is in.

“A girl identified as Victim B, now 21, said she was sexually assaulted by Nassar ”’more times than she could count,”’ Det. Sgt. Andrea Munford wrote in an affidavit.”

Not to start any rumors but I can’t help but think of who is 21 right now who used to train there….

    • dianajc99 Says:

I want to know how general enrollment is in that gym right now?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

      Jordyn?

Although I can’t imagine her mom wasn’t paying attention and would know if something was going on. I was thinking Bross for a second but she’s older.

    • gymnerd Says:

I thought the exact same thing, CQ. Would be another reason she hightailed it away to UCLA (hey, I rhymed!).

      • Cupquaked Says:

I have literally zero evidence other than victim B is 21 and from Geddert’s gym. But my mind automatically goes to Jordyn.

The thing is, is she never really head cased in competition. Jordyn was always rock solid. Other people were just better at certain competitions. But some people are really good at covering up that type of abuse, especially if they were groomed the way it sounds like most of them were (gifts, “our little secret”, etc).

Another thing that points me to her is that the girls’ lawyer has stated that he believes there’s at least one gymnast on every national/Olympic team that Nassar abused. Everyone right now is quick to guess Maroney from 2012 but I’m pretty sure her problems stem from her coaches incompetence, not abuse. And with Jordyn being from Michigan, she seems the more likely gymnast. But of course, this is all conjecture. It’s definitely (and I hope) possible that the 2012 team was not affected by this creep. But with over 350 allegations in less than 20 years, it’s unlikely.

Reasons for me to doubt would be: Jordyn being the 2-time national champion and world champion would mean that the USAG and her coaches were extremely careful with her. She had to have been watched almost 24/7. And with a mother as involved (not negative) as hers, I doubt she would be trusting enough to leave her underage daughter alone with a male doctor.

      • Bess Says:

There was also that other little girl who came up with Jordyn…she wasn’t national team I don’t think but she had promise early on and then got injured. The one with the glasses

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Kameran Moore though I am sure I butchered that spelling.

  7. Tortuga Says:

Chelsea Memmel had mentioned in an interview that the reason she didn’t go to camp for awhile was because she couldn’t get proper treatment slash rehab for her injuries there. Which now makes me wonder maybe her and her father were trying to stay away from Nassar. I mean obviously she didn’t want to play Martha’s games but she was old enough to know Larry’s action were wrong but probably didn’t want to get black listed.

As for Jordyn, I can’t say it hadn’t crossed my mind. She ran off to UCLA abruptly and it was around the time Geddert was getting in some legal trouble. I remember us speculating on this blog. But it’s very likely she could be a victim since she was around Nassar for so many years, at home and camp. I doubt she had a choice if a parent was present and her parents probably trusted him since he had been there so long.

  8. Exgymgurl Says:

If you look at it NASsar never went after the stars…..the kimbos and the moceanus were off limits….

    • gymnerd Says:

      That we know of, anyway….

I’m really surprised he went after Jamie and Jeanette. Neither one was exactly known as a shrinking violet back in the day.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

But neither was supposed to make an Olympic team….Jamie would not have said anything, she knew she was a bubble athlete.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Didn’t Jamie and Jeanette say they didn’t even know they were molested til last summer? Just read an article where Moceanu says it was her who told them they should report it. I was wondering how long it would take for her to have an opinion.

      • gymnerd Says:

        Good point.

  9. Cupquaked Says:

Penn state coach finally fired. And an article about Legendre’s wife being groped by an Olympic men’s team coach (he resigned).

Is the USAG finally cleaning house?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

What kind of man doesn’t confront the guy that
Assaulted his wife ? ( Assaulted was her word ) I had no respect for him before . I have less now.

      • Cupquaked Says:

It doesn’t say it in the article but Alaina said on Facebook that Steven did approach him and he apparently laughed in his face and tried to make it seem like no big deal.

      • dianajc99 Says:

I thought he did . Hotel security had to intervene.

      • SS Says:

He did approach him right away. He laughed if off and said that he had just had too much to drink and it was a misunderstanding

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Someone laughs in your face after assaulting your wife and you don’t kick his ass?

  10. gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t have Facebook but I’m glad he’s not completely inept as a husband. Hitting on her and assault are two completely different things . It needs to be clarified. It sounds like he was a dunk idiot and no, that doesn’t excuse what he did . He should have been flattened from that start . Don’t people understand keeping this quiet hurts the future ? They were adults and if she is going to use the word assault then that implies the police should have been involved.

    • SS Says:

In the gymcastic interview they talked about how they weren’t interested in getting the police involved because they felt that it was USAG’s responsibility to deal with it as it was their coach at event they were sponsoring. He was removed as world coach and forced to apologize to the national team. They also said that others came forward saying he had hit on their girlfriends/wives. Steven also discusses not wanting to screw over his teammates who were coached by him, so I think there was a lot of conflict internally. Although if may be a drunken idiot it still doesn’t make the actions okay–he allegedly stuck his hands down her pants and grabbed her bare ass–this is not a normal drunken interaction, especially as they were both married to other people with zero history of flirtation or anything else. So much assault goes unreported because of the way that victims are treated that it’s a very dangerous precedent to say that if the police weren’t involved it wasn’t assault. I think that it has been clear for decades that USAG is clearly out to protect their reputation over their athletes. To quote the interview, “if this had happened with a McDonalds employee he would have been fired on the spot—for some reason USAG continues to turn a blind eye over and over.”

      • Melanie Says:

Thanks for your response, SS. It seems ridiculous that someone would be more upset by Legendre’s response to his wife’s assault or by how the victim phrased what happened to her than by USAG ignoring the ‘incident’ (as they called it) for nearly two years.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Like I said there is a huge difference between being hit on and assault and putting your hands on someone is assault. What you described is assault. A sexual assault.

Not going to the police in the situation described above is insane and yes Legendre and his wife should have gone to the cops. They are adults not some scared 14 year old kid. If a stranger had done this to them they would have gone right to the cops so the only difference here is not going to the police might have befitted him making an Olympic team.

I don’t think for a second that he gave a shit about his teammates he cared about making that Olympic team.

This was a selfish move and the idea that everyone knew this guy was harassing and touching woman and expected USAG to police themselves is pathetic. Any case that happened after this is directly a result of any adult that didn’t care about the well being of everyone.

Why people are making excuses for them not putting this pervert away I will never understand and I really don’t care who has an issue with my opinion. Everyone knew and no one did anything and that is why it happened again and again.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I never said it wasn’t an assault if it wasn’t reported I said there is a big difference between assault and being hit on. If someone assaults you you go to the cops. If someone just hits on you you probably don’t. The two scenario’s are completely different.

You mentioned if this had happened at Mcdonalds the person would be fired immediately. Well if a Mcdonalds employee put his hand down her pants Legendre would have gone to the cops so why didn’t he here? His reasoning doesn’t hold water.

    • gymnerd Says:

You need a “Like” button, Ms. GTT.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I just need a common sense button. Any way you look at this he was worried about the Olympics not his wife . How is it USAG’S responsibility to report an assault that happened in a bar even if at the hotel?

I got an email from some one that said on Steve ‘ s Facebook page post about what happened was only liked by 66 people and there wasn’t a single current gymnast she recognized on the list. Let’s be realistic here everyone is out for themselves and their career. Let’s at least be honest about it.

  11. Melanie Says:

    Inside the January Camp

    • Cupquaked Says:

Contrary to most, I actually really love the year after the olympics. It’s always a low-stress year and we get to see so many new girls come up into the senior ranks. And it’s always fun to predict the Olympic team when we have no idea what will happen in 3.5 years. This time in 2013 I had Katelyn Ohashi on my 2016 Olympic team and didn’t even know who Maggie Nichols and Laurie Hernandez were.

  12. Exgymgurl Says:

Shawn and Andrew east will be at the oscars add to their YouTube channel. Shawn said she was hesitant because she doesn’t want to be asked about all the controversy going on with USAG

  13. G Says:

So with February camp underway, who does everyone think the second person for the American Cup will be? I’d say it’s between Chiles and McCusker and I’m leaning more towards the latter.

  14. Cupquaked Says:

There’s currently a petition on change.org calling for Steve Penny to resign.

  15. gymnerd Says:

So Moceanu’s shooting off her mouth again. Color me shocked. She seems to think she’s this white night who’s going to save the girls from the sport. If she was so concerned, why not bring it to light before now?

    • dianajc99 Says:

she did and before her Sey did

      • G Says:

Sey spoke up about the recent scandal? I have respect for her but not DoMo.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Sey hasn’t publicly said anything except her facebook age it was Domo who went to the media and took credit for the girls coming forward.

      • gymnerd Says:

        DM spoke up about Nassar?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yep.well more about USAG and Steve Penny. I read an article I think from people.com She takes credit for Jamie and company coming forward .

      • Aerial Says:

Dominique has been speaking out against many aspects of USAG (and blacklisted ) for years. She is pretty vocal about supporting others too, not just now.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Sorry but she is vocal in anything she can blame Bela for because she is still bitter she didn’t get her own way. If she couldn’t get her digs in at Bela and this didn’t benefit her she wouldn’t say a word.

      • gymnerd Says:

I tend to agree, GTT. Oh, and my question above was meant to be, “Did she speak up about Nassar before all of this became public?” If she knew before the first woman came forward (“Hoping my five Olympic friends that had this so-called procedure decide to come out” – yeah, I’m sure they all rushed to call DM the second it happened) and didn’t say anything, she’s guilty too.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She never mentioned Nassar to my knowledge before this happened. I bet she wishes she had thought of it.

  16. dianajc99 Says:

She who shall not be named has a blog now.

  17. Guest Says:

There is rumor that Simone will appear in the upcoming season of DWTS and be partnered with Sasha Farber (it makes sense). Simone is in West Hollywood by her latest snapchat so it is very likely to happen. But I don’t think the producer would let gymnasts win two consecutive seasons.

  19. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Kapitonova wins Russian championships, followed by Eremina and Shegulnova, with Dasha, Melnikova and Seda very, very behind. Russia has a lot of problems. The scores of the winners for this meet are very low for a team that hopes to fight for medals and it is in an internal meet. If Russia is not careful, they might been on the same road as Romania. (Boy, I am sad for Romania. I was rewatching Sydney’s Olympics while I was doing paperwork and I heard them said that silver and bronze are never enough for Romania…and I keep thinking: “Girls, you are going to be so screwed ten years from now…”).
