Happy Birthday Hollie Vise

That’s Hollie not Holly to Ya’ll (Hollie is from Texas get it? Oh leave me and my corny jokes alone. I went back to work Monday and can’t feel my armssss)

One of my favorite Floor routines of all time. ( tumbling aside overall I loved the dance)The best part of this particular video is  it was the year Hollie tied for second at Nationals and Marta was forced to take her to Worlds based on the rules she put in place. Talk about Karma biting you in the ass ( insert laughing emoticon here) Marta used Hollie for years making her think she was in the running for an Olympic Bars/ Beam specialist position that never existed and it was just not fair.

You can also call Hollie, WORLD CHAMPION, Hollie Vise if you want too. Hee hee Marta.

Great to see her husband get a medal in Rio. And baby at start of 2016. Good year in every way.

  2. Case Says:

Big move for Sale! Boston is definitely the team to beat now.

This is Dombrowski doing what Dombrowski does best….making epic trades that ravage the farm system.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I get it. Sale is a great pitcher and under our control for 3 more years at a great price but the way he acted last year when he had to wear a throw back shirt really rubbed me the wrong way. I thought the Red Sox were over bringing in prima Donna Pedro Martinez types. Don’t get me wrong, Pedro was the best pitcher I have seen pitch and his teammates loved him but some of the shot he pulled and was allowed to pull by management was unprofessional and immature and I would rather watch the kids grow up than deal with someone who thinks he’s better than the team.

Schedule for the most important gymnastic meetings of next year. I hope Larissa rocks the European Championships in Romania:

  4. lovelucas Says:

Love her toe point but you only see that on bars. I certainly think she was not fairly treated but….so many problems on that floor and a tango could be better used choreographically. The crime is the Marta-treatment and giving false hopes.

  5. Exgymgurl Says:

So with Simone out Larissa for AA gold at worlds?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I hope so but the US is so overscored I still think they will win.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

No, I don’t think we have a standout anyone…..all the seniors are retired or making $$ or on breaks, everyone is sick of team USA. If Valeri is smart he hands this one over on a gold platter. I’d love to see two non Americans get AA medals and a non american win gold. It would be the first time I think since musty in 2010. Jordan chiles is finally a senior next year.

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I trust Larissa’s chances, but we don’t know how she really is at the moment. If she has regained her former level, 2014-2015 level, I think she can win. I wanted to see Chusong in the podium too (and I thought it had possibilities this year) but it was announced that she won’t compete AA in the following years, so it is not possible. So I really think Larissa will win if she has regained her former level. Maybe Melnikova or Eremina had some chances too, but I don’t think we will see an AA podium without any USA girl. Even if no Olympic medalists come back in time for the next worlds, the competition is not that great right now. People like Chiles or Reagan, for example, can sneak some medals, specially if Russia keeps falling all over the place.

    • Melanie Says:

I think Rocio is right – Ragan Smith seems to be gunning for a medal. We don’t really know what Norah looks like aside from some random training videos. I haven’t completely counted out Laurie because she hasn’t discussed her plans for training yet. Like Sloan and Ross, she may want to keep going as the youngest member of the Olympic team.

Selfish wishful thinking – I’d love to see some good things for Flavia Saraiva, Rebeca Andrade, and Eythora Thorsdottir.

  6. Tortuga Says:

Speaking of Hollie Vise, I just got tickets for UCLA @ OU. It’s on Sunday, January 15th, if anyone lives close and wants to go. I’d like to meet you guys.

  7. Exgymgurl Says:

Reagan has decent beam if she can land it without a splat, she has low value bars, low value floor, and a mediocre dty on a good day. Chiles is way beyond her

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

But Regan was fifth at Olympic trials with two very competitive scores of 58.700 and 59.050. I don’t think that these scores are poor in any way, especially taking into account the scores of the rest of the countries that will compete at the worlds. Probably her main competition would be inside the own USA, but with all the girls above her in the Olympic trials retired or taking a break, I do think this year could be her chance to shine, if she remains healthy.

      • Melanie Says:

Yep, you’re right. Her floor is fine with a little work on getting more height on her tumbling. Bars is weak, and vault is meh, but again, that’s compared to the rest of the US. Ragan is a great AA option for a post-Olympic year Worlds.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Gymbot, I realize I didn’t answer your mention in the other message, sorry. Yes, the new Russian look good. I have high hopes for Eremina, but Russia’s consistency problems seem to be spreading of late and I am a little worried about the low (for world and olympics standards, of course) starting value they all are presenting on floor exercise. In the last couple of great competition, they all presented floors with a starting values around 5.7, when you need at least a couple of floors above 5.8 and an specialist of 6.00 or higher to be really competive in comparition with the USA. I don’t know what is happening in this regard, as Russia has been traditionally very solid on floor.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Chiles is the one with the Amanar right ? If that’s the one I watched her the other day and was surprised at what I saw because she looked impressive but if I remember correctly all her other scores were in the 13’s. That isn’t competitive or better than Smith.

      • Ss Says:

Chiles has an amanar but is quite competitive on the rest of the events as well but definitely has consistency problems. I’d love to see her succeed because she’s from Oregon and we haven’t had a successful elite in decades, but I’m worried all the hype around her as a junior will end up like ohashi.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

She’s been injured but has potential to score 15+ everywhere if she get her consistency

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I haven’t checked but I’m pretty sure she’s the one with scores in the 13’s that wins everything because of the Amanar . People don’t get credit for what they could do but haven’t. At least not with me. I watched her the other day and found myself impressed with what I saw and I remember wondering why her scores were always so low. Them thought maybe it was start value so not hating on her. Just waiting for her to prove it.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I haven’t seen her much and I think she was fourth last year’s USA Junior Classic, wasn’t she? The junior I have heard more about in the last year was that girl of WOGA of Russia ascent…I don’t remember her name, sorry. Almost nothing from Chiles, except for her vault.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The Russian girl from Woga is over hyped. She has a high start value beam she bobbled through and the rest is blah.

      • Gymbot Says:

Irina Alexeeva – piibunia and sporteverywhere youtube channels have her routines and d scores from massila, just a few weeks ago. Her routines already conform to the new code and they are quite high. She looks very WOGA and has a lot of big skills, including reverse giant pirouettes into a stretched jaeger (F in new code) and a LOSO LOSO mount on beam. If she becomes a US citizen, she’d be in the mix with Chiles. I think Chiles has the better form though

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Thank you gymbot! I couldn’t remember her name. I saw her bars at Massilia, but not her beam. They have been talking about her here in Europe since Massilia, when it was expected for the senior Russians Seda and Spiri to win several events easily (as they were the most known names in the competition and almost the only Olympians) and it was the juniors Iliankova and Eremina who hold down Russia’s front and Alexeeva won bars with Spiri there.

      • Mim Says:

Bring on Maile O’Keefe in this quad. She’s always been such an elegant gymnast, even when she was a little TOPS kid. I’m hoping her juniors win last year wasn’t a fluke.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Who is alexeeva competing for at Massilia? Obviously not the US…. Obviously Liukin knows about her and yet she’s not at team USA camps.

      • Gymbot Says:

She competed for WOGA in the open division and Landi went with her. Anything related to being on the US team Irina can’t do: represent the US, USA camps, Etc.

Rocio, the new Russians look really good; a consistent team could take them far

I haven’t seen a lot of Maile O’Keefe – is there a competition you recommend Mim?

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

In theory, she was with the USA. She competed with USA’s flag and in all the classifications I have seen, she is presented as a competitor from USA, even if she was born in Moscow. Here, for example, you can see the qualifications with the flags: https://rg-leotard.com/blog/news/irina_alexeeva_is_a_winner_at_2016_elite_gym_massilia. I think she has some problems with the USA’s nationality, so I think she is not allowed in the camps until that is resolved, but that is only a theory.

      • Gymbot Says:

She was entered in the open as B category representing city or club. This is just semantics though, she intends to compete for the US.

Olympic Gymnastics team NOCs are invited to the masters, but USA didn’t send anyone.

      • Mim Says:

Gymbot, sorry for the late reply. Maile’s routines from P&Gs from 2013-16 should all be on YouTube, plus her upper level JO training vids from 2011-12 (that’s how I found out about her as a Level 8 or 9!). She was the junior national champ last year… Good beam and floor potential especially.

I can barely remember Alexeeva from Classics, will have to go back to rewatch.

Noticed that Mckayla’s Instagram is restored.

  10. Gymnast41 Says:

Maggie looks really really good in the OU intraquad videos. A little over scored I felt, but overall I felt that she looked really good and NCAA will suit her well this year.
I was actually pretty surprised with mykayla as well, her floor routine music is the same as the one she used this year, with some new (better) tweaks to the choreo. She actually looks pretty decent considering I was worried how her form would play out in NCAA scoring wise. She threw her double-double so I’m guessing that makes her the first in NCAA?
Never thought a day like this would come, but I’m excited for this upcoming NCAA season and got my season tickets 😊

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I got tickets to OU UCLA also, but I’ll cheer for Kyla, Kocian, Katelyn, Nichols, wofford, Brenna etc. hopefully they will all get a shot since that’s probably an espn televised meet!

    • sanitynmotion Says:

How does Kyla look? Probably the most interesting college season to pay attention to in a long time…at least for me.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Last year I paid a little attention because of a few athletes like Lizzy Leduc and Peyton Ersnt but overall I find College gym boring because it’s fixed worse than elite
