Bad Timing

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in blogging. Remember how I told you I went to the doctors a few months ago well lets just say it didn’t go as well as it could of and I had to have surgery. I would like to keep what kind of surgery (for now) private if you don’t mind but there was no cancer (which is always good news) and I am on my way to recovery.

Right now I am just very tired, not working and living off my savings for at least another month before I have to go back to work (thankfully part time so I won’t be stressed) but now that the problem has been removed I might feel like blogging more.

The only other thing I really want to say to all of you is if you feel like shit for months, go to the doctors ASAP. I put off going to the doctors for years due to not having health insurance and stubborness and it didn’t help this situation so if you know something is wrong (like I did) get off your ass and make sure you’re okay. Sure you will be paying back the Hospital til you’re 92 but you’re health is worth it. Can’t wait til I get the bill for my hospital stay:)

I’m glad you’re feeling better GTT, I hope your recovery is speedy!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Thanks G. It’s been everything but and I’ve been told it can take 8 months to feel like your old self again and I am a slow healer so it will take longer.

      • G Says:

I totally know the feeling. I had major spine surgery about ten years ago and the hardest part was just feeling really depressed and not like myself afterward. Then one day I just felt better! I can’t explain what changed but it was like a switch flipped and I was back to being “me”. I hope that day comes quickly for you🙂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Thanks . My first night home I cried that I couldn’t have kids even though I never wanted them now every baby I see I go awww. God this needs to end soon lol

  3. Gymbot Says:

I’m sorry to hear this, I hope your recovery is faster than expected. Hang in there

  4. Exgymgurl Says:

Hey you can always adopt. Always. My mom was adopted and saving a kid is heroic. feeel better

  5. gymtruthteller Says:

But I never wanted kids. Lol They said you might be emotional after this type of operation. So I think that’s why ( so much for seeping quiet I am giving all types of hints lol ) I baby sat a boy as a teen who was abandoned by his mother and taken care of by 2 people whose son abandoned him ( a second abandonment which is just cruel ) when he was going to adopt him and changed his mind and I wish I knew then what I know now about what he went through. Some people should be shot. So I get it. It’s tough

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Lots of people should get shot.
As for kids I hear ya. But you can always adopt. I guess it’s not the end of the world but you’ll probably be going through all sorts of emotions and crap sounds like. Stupid hormones.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

No one needs details of your medical issues, but there are tons of ways to be a parent. Tons of ways to love. Hormones suck. Always.

  6. sanitynmotion Says:

Feel better soon GTT. I say this as I’m basically bed ridden from tweaking my back again. Stupid slipped disc. Hope you get back to 100% soon.

  7. Mim Says:

So sorry to hear you haven’t been well, GTT. Make sure that you try not to put any pressure on yourself to rush through the physical and emotional recovery process; rest up and hope you feel better soon. Sending positive vibes your way x

  8. H Says:

I hope your recovery is as pleasant as it gets (including speed:-).

I wish you also a good month without work, times goes so fast, make friends with every moment.

I am looking forward to more blogs when you feel for it.
On another note, does anyone know if Key is done with elite?

  9. Exgymgurl Says:

She’s going to bama next fall. So I’d say she’s done just because between now and next August there aren’t that many elite competitions.

  10. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

I am sorry you are not well, GTT. I hope you recover as soon as possible and feel better. A lot of hugs from Germany!

  11. Gymnast41 Says:

    Feel better GTT🙂

    • Ss Says:

Fell better and be kind to yourself! Apply for the financial aid after you get your hospital bill, a lot of times they will waive a huge amount. Even if you don’t think you’ll qualify it’s worth a shot!

  12. JK Says:

I’m so sorry about your situation, GTT. I hope you make a full recovery asap.

  13. dianajc99 Says:

Hope this make you feel better!!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Lol even she falls I can stand to look at her lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

She fell at 2005 scam on the same move in her bar routine. First international elite meet and last… Bookends

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You would think so LMAO but I don’t. Not with this Cubs team. Sorry but secretly they were trying to steal Theo away while he was still under our control. Theo gets too much cred for 2004 anyway. Dan Duquette put that team together and Larry Lucchino had real control of the decision making . The owners flew to get Schilling at Thanksgiving and Pedro Martinez is why we had Ortiz ( PD begged the Red Sox to take him and Theo wanted to bench him in favor of Jeremy Giambi . ) but for some reason Theo gets all the credit. I temper back in the day the radio guys even complained Larry had all the Control. Larry won us that title not Theo. Yeah so if they didn’t have that obnoxious ex Rays Manager or Lester and Theo and the draft guys Theo stole I might be happy for them but no:) My problem is I have a very good memory and remember all the little details the bandwagon fans forget.

  18. allie Says:

Hi GTT- I don’t often post (but am a regular reader!), and I wanted to say that I hope you feel better soon. Be gentle with yourself!❀

  19. Case Says:

GTT! Sorry to hear of your recent trials but I’m sending many well wishes and hope that you feel better soon. Thinking of you always, friend.

PS – You may not remember this, but you were totally right about Theo. I wish I could find the blog post, but we were chatting about him leaving the Red Sox and you said “he will bring Chicago a championship, he did it here and I don’t think it will take him long there.” Regardless of how you feel about the teams playing last night, that was such a great game 7.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Thanks for the well wishes. Had to go back to the doctor today and he found an unrelated issue so now I’m in pain and it’s so much fun🙂

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Well Theo had a lot of help when he took half the Red Sox organization with him when he was stolen by the Cubs including the guys that drafted Lester so I wasn’t surprised they won. Though I could not bring myself to root for them. I wonder what happened to that no name compensation the Cubs were forced to give us for secretly trying to steal Theo away while he was still being paid by the Red Sox.

    • G Says:

I’m Cleveland born and raised so I’m pretty bummed that the Indians lost but you’re right, it was a great game 7!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You can blame your hitters and Francona for losing that game. The pitcher that loaded the bases ( I am not sure if he gave up the runs himself or was replaced and took the blame though I think he actually gave up the hits ) never should have been in the game that second inning. He barely got out of the inning before and Francona put him back in. You could tell he was losing his stuff. This is Francona ‘s fault. In Boston he g0t lucky when made Dumbass moves like that (Pedro in game 7 of the ALCS against the Yankees after 2003 where he did the same thing amd Pedro blew the lead) Don’t get me started. Lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

My friends and I were discussing which team was the lesser of 2 evils and we came to the conclusion it was the Indians over the Cubs but I agree, it was a great game 7 even if my hatred of Ben Zobrist and Joe Maddon can never bring me to root for them.

      • G Says:

Do you dislike the Indians for any particular reason? I’m not a very knowledgeable fan so I’m just curious. They had a lot of talent and heart this year it seemed to me.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes I do lol😉 First you beat my red sox this year in the playoffs so I am still extremely bitter. Secondly, I dislike Francona due to the way he left us . He very much sat there on his ass while the red sox were falling apart amd didn’t do his job ( AKA Managing the team he was paid to manage instead letting them do as they pleased. Look up chicken and beer Red Sox I sure you will find some info about what happened tho bo one will blame Francona for not doing his job ) This is kind of long🙂

      • G Says:

Ah ok, I figured it might have to do with Francona because he used to be with your team. I’ll have to do a little research now🙂 I can understand why you’d be bitter about us beating the Red Sox. I’m pretty sure I’ll hate the Cubs forever lol
But it’s been an amazing year for Cleveland do I shouldn’t complain !

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Half your team were ex red sox too. Napoli , Andrew Miller , Coco. Hey I got over it, a little because I wanted the Indians to beat the Boston Cubs ( the fans nickname for the Cubs. They had Theo . Jed Hoyer. Lester . Ross. Manny and Youkilis. Theo took several of our draft guys when he left and they drafted Kris Bryant so I’m claiming him as one 0f us too. The Red Sox deserve credit for that World Series .

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Francona is the only ex Sox member on your team that I hated.

      • Case Says:

GTT, as a Red Sox fan who suffered through a bazillion years without a championship, you can’t tell me the Cubbies didn’t pull at your heartstrings just a little bit?

I was all about the Cubs this series. Sorry Cleveland, but as a Detroit fan I can’t give you any love.😉

  20. Dee2 Says:

I am sorry you were feeling poorly for so long, but glad you did not have cancer. Rest and recover and spoil yourself rotten. I had this same surgery (I think) a few years back and it is good to take all the time you need-read up about nutrition and exercise-and talk to your doctor if you find yourself dealing with any depression. I appreciate you and this blog. Feel better fast.🙂

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Thank you😉 I guess I’ll just say what I had since it’s pretty much could have been figured out by a 8 year old but I had a cyst on my ovaries and they ended up having to do a full hysterectomy. I think my depression faze ended a few days in when I sat and cried in the bathroom the night David Ortiz retired lol ( Not embarrassed at all. Sometimes you’ve g0t to laugh to get through things especially when you can’t control your hormones )

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That sounds painful. I had a burst cyst on my ovary when I was pregnant and thought I was gonna die.
        Take care of yourself. Seriously.
May the Red Sox beat the Cubs and Indians next season!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The Red Sox are in big trouble without Ortiz to save their sorry butts. We have no clutch savior anymore. I’m afraid the kids we have just do not have the fight to be the next Big Papi. Mookie is our bet shot. I guess we will see what happens. I just hope they don’t go over pay Bautista or Encarcion from Toronto. My cyst was a stubborn asshole and a good size and it was placed in a way that was wrecking havoc on my insides. I can’t believe I survived working with it for as long as I did. Sorry yours sounds even worse and while you were pregnant . Yikes

  21. gymnerd Says:

We all love and appreciate you and the blog, GTT. Be good to yourself. ❀ ❀ ❀

  22. Jessica Says:

I’m so glad to hear you are ok and cancer free. This year has been awful because of that damn disease. I lost two friends, 103 days apart, to cancer.
I don’t want to lose my favorite blogger, even if you hate the Indians. Lol

  23. Cupquaked Says:

Aw! Keep resting and improving! Sorry that you had to have surgery😩

  24. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Hope new videos can cheer you up a little, GTT. Here are Seda’s UB in today’s Blume Memorial:

    • gymtruthteller Says:

How mean do you think I am? She fell. I can’t enjoy that. I only enjoy that when it’s Nastia🙂

      • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

But she fell at the end (dammit, Seda!). The rest of the routine was pretty good. She end up third in this competition, after Nina Derwael of Belgium and Melanie dos Santos. (France). I don’t remember ever seeing any of them. Seda needs to get her shit together fast!

  25. Exgymgurl Says:

Why? Mustafina and Afan are gone. Mustafina said she wants to have children in an interview a few months back. She thanklessly carried Russian gymnastics since 2010 with Valentina and everyone else writing her off after her knee blew out, so if I was seda I would be like whatevs bitches!! I’m sticking around a bit!!

    • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Musty said that she is taking at least a year off after Rio and then she would decide what to do. She is not retired yet, but I think she will. She has been very battered by injuries and she has done more than enough. Seda will carry out a little while, but both she and Melnikova need to be consistent if Russia wants to present a powerful image once again. And we all know Valentina and if she keeps having this consistency problems, it is possible that she experiments the same fate as Grishina. Russia has promising juniors, with Eremina becaming a senior next year, but everyone seems to have the same problems with consistency, so Russia should examine her own program to determine what is wrong. You can say that one specific gymnast’s problem is due to her own personality, etc. But when the same problem repeats over and over and over again in different gymnasts, the problem is on your program.

    • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

And Seda is way younger than Musty and Afan. I think Musty have carried on until Rio because of a sense of duty for her country. She said herself she was constantly in a lot of pain in the last two years.

      • JAS4 Says:

I could see Mustafina possibly trying for Tokyo as a bars or bars/beam specialist. If Russia is still falling apart I could see her wanting to help in some capacity but with her previous injuries I don’t know if AS would be in her best interest unless she is completely healed and able to compete AA safely.

      • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

I agree, JAS4. I think I said a couple of months ago that I could see her keeping up for Tokyo if the Russian Federation convince her that she is needed. Not for herself, but for a sense of responsability. And seeing as her possible replacements (Seda, Melnikova, Kharenkova, etc.) haven’t been up to task, so to speak, I can see that happening. Let’s be real, in Rio there would have been no medals for Russia without her except for Paseka’s. It would have been a dissaster. Even if she in Rio could only contribute with a bars medal, maybe a beam one and helping the time to get one, it could be more. I think they will try to convince her to stay if they don’t find any security in the new members of the team. Maybe if the new seniors turn out to be a security, they let her retire in peace. They have a lot of faith in Eremia; let’s see how she does in near future. But I think that, if it was for her, she would retire. If she keeps going, it isn’t for her own benefit but for other reasons, in my opinion.

      • JAS4 Says:

I could see Mustafina having a baby and then coming back as a specialist too

  26. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Eythora’s beam at Swiss Cup. She had a painful fall (props to her for continuing. I would be on the floor moaning in pain if that would have been me), but interesting changes in her routine nonetheless.

  30. Gymbee Says:

So sorry you have had to go through this GTT! I really hope your recovery will go ok, and until then, I’m sending good vibes and thoughts.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

So you only want my recovery to go okay ? Well thanks a lot . Just kidding🙂 Thank you

  31. tulip Says:

You are in my thoughts and I wish you a speedy return to good health. I’ve had major life changing surgery too and empathize with a long recovery time. However, I will say that the surgery was worth it in the end, despite the pain and long down time. I wish the same for you.

I truly hope that when you are all healed up
that you have only good health and spirits! And selfishly I am very interested in keeping up with all the changes at USAG (that will hopefully end up dismantled from the top down- talking to you Steve Penny) that are happening and how they will move forward. Since FIG has new leadership I would love to see change there, such as playing fair and avoiding any hint of corruption. Guessing what role Nastia will play and how much puke pink we see again… and on and on

And I want to do that HERE with this great fun and knowledgeable community you have built here….

And in any downtime, if you want to post your voodoo dolls from a few years back, I would get a kick out of seeing them and any more you feel are deserving of such an honor 😀

And the hospital will work with you if you ask. FWIW- on average, medical professionals and facilities expect to receive payment at 20-30% of the bill. So work toward that. Good luck!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Thank you🙂

30% is what I have expected so far based on the bills I have received already and can’t pay. Glad I have the little bit of insurance I do. Charged 700.00 for one test which is insane. I only had to pay a portion but this was the first test. We haven’t even received anything the hospital bill yet or surgery. OMG I shutter to think about it.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Go to the hospital and bring your income statements. In MA they still have to give you a payment plan based on income

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Good idea. I’ll wait til January’s tax papers since I missed 3 months of work and it will be lower. Thanks

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Also tell them you can’t work as many hours now because of the hormomonal stress, you may be paying $50 a month or so for a while, but you don’t have to be destitute, and they can’t send you to collections. I got my hospital overall bill reduced to almost zero or where I only owed 10% of it because I was a student and below the poverty line. MA is better about that than most other states

Then she dos the bus tour on this one and her bus is her Nastia Aly and Jordyn and a bunch of medical people, and unknowns. So that tells you who the non drama people are…. The oldest women on the tour….
