Fuck you judges. LONG LIVE THE KING

The amount of people rooting against the King because he’s the King astounds me. In the words of my buddy, Suck it haters

I’ll be online in a few to continue this blog but all I’ll say for now is , Wooooooooo

Best. MAG. AA. Ever. This is the MAG equivalent of Shushunova and Silivas in 1988.

    • dianajc99 Says:

Some people were comparing to Shawn/Nastia but your right it is closer to sush/siliv

    • Lauren H Says:

Seriously the best MAG final EVER! I can’t believe it came down to 1 tenth. It reminded me of Gutsu vs. Miller. I wish WAG AA was this close. It makes it actually exciting to watch. LONG LIVE KING KOHEI!!!

I figured I’d post this here, since this is the new blog.

As much as I don’t care for Marta’s leadership, I really hope Valeri isn’t next. Putting aside the fact his track record with anyone not named Nastia is cause for concern, just imagine what Team USA’s routines will look like once he takes over. Bar routines filled with pirouettes and awful dismounts, cowboyed tumbling and cross-legged twisting on floor, and good-bye to any vault more difficult than a 1.5TY.

Oh well, at least every gymnast will get the built in WOGA score bonus?

Okay, I’m only kidding (I hope?), but I would much prefer Chow, Mihai, or Aimee. USAG needs someone who won’t play the obnoxious political games, and I have no reason to believe that’s Valeri.

Do we like Rhonda for the position? I thought USAG might be grooming her….?
      Agree on Valeri.

      • KG Says:

She seems better than valeri to me. IMO if we thought Marta played favorites and games, I think valeri would be a hundred times worse.

I bed they’ll switch to a committee instead of One person as the head. Valeri, Rhonda, and one other. No idea who. Maybe a former athlete trained under Marta?

      • KG Says:

And I say that because I don’t think they’ll want one person with all of the power. USAG is all about making no one too valuable and everyone replaceable. That’s kind of been their success anyways, not relying on retired gymnasts coming back to win titles, so I think they’ll follow suit with coaching. It makes sense from a business standpoint.

      • lovelucas Says:

Did Rhonda do actual coaching at Florida or is she the one who does the paperwork, recruiting and makes sure the rules are followed? I was at NCAA nationals a couple of times and there was virtually no hands on at all from Rhonda. But then all NCAA coaches get so dressed up in heels, etc and I suppose if they’re at Nationals the gymnasts don’t need assistance. There’s always male asst coaches on bars and vault.

      • dianajc99 Says:

Rhonda was coached by marta and bela

    • tulip Says:

Sadly, it will be hard to reform the process with Steve Penny at the helm. He appears to be cut from the same cloth as Marta by playing games, putting politics first and doing what’s best for him- not what’s going for the team and sport.

And…. keep this in mind: the more Valeri the more Nastia. Can you imagine her with real power? Nightmare we need to avoid at all costs.

Anyone catching the Final 5 interviews? Aly giving lots of love to Marta, Laurie and Simone being Laurie and Simone which is: relaxed, fun and articulate with exclamation points – both of them, along with Aly, are very inclusive with all 5…when questions are asked of them, they involve the others. Gabby is smiling but saying nothing at all other than…amazing journey.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I kinda thought it was crappy how Gabby so casually called the Rio Olympics experience virtually the same as London. It’s like she treats the Olympics as a trip to Disneyland.

      • tulip Says:

Yes. The look on her face when Costas asked her how she felt about passing the AA torch, possibly to Simone or Aly. She gritted her teeth and made a gesture like she was handing Simone something. He then went to Aly and Simone about competing for the AA. He was done with her and she did not seem happy about it.

The others are being so gracious and positive, complimenting each other and appearing thrilled to be there. Not so Gabby. My mom watched tf and the first thing she said was how sour she looked and that she was not participating in the team.

Wouldn’t her agent be desperately trying to reach her to tell her to knock it off pronto? If anything tell mooch mom that sponsors don’t like bratty behavior. Bet she starts losing deals or sees then not get renewed. It’s part of being a professional athlete. There’s a lot of others who would love to be in her shoes and Gabby Inc could all come to an end.

      • gymnerd Says:

I did feel like that was a shitty thing for Costas to say, though. Gabby is not my favorite person by any means, but that was just cruel.

  4. Exgymgurl Says:

That’s just how gabby deals with disappointment when Costas they asked why there was no friction with them even with gabby not getting to defend her AA she chuckled and Aly said no we’re all working together. So happy Kohei got both team and individual AA

    • lovelucas Says:

TV folks are always looking for a conflict story – as if anyone would actually do that on live tv…..unless you’re Lily King who called out Efimova for doping. Great stuff for Kohei. terrific competition and how about that High Bar!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

His best yet and the pommel judges are on some kind of medication.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

The Pommel judges and the UB judges for the women are on the same thing for sure. Maybe the share apartments on the Olympic village or something.

      • tulip Says:

His high bar was in a league of its own. One of the best ever, imo.

On another note, I hope Oleg can win an EF gold so he can get the $150,000 Ukraine gives its athletes. I’m a softy for someone who tried to act with some class by apologizing to the Swiss team.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Gabbys getting a ton of crap for not putting her hand over her heart….

      • tulip Says:

As she should. That was really disrespectful. Plus once again she looked lethargic and completely inconvenienced by being there

      • Guest Says:

She still can’t get over the fame and glory she got 4 years ago. She should understand she is lucky to be selected into the team and stand on on podium.

      • Case Says:

The beginning of the end of Gabby’s gravy train. Sponsors will be tossing that money Simone’s way soon. Simone is incredibly likeable beyond her insane gymnastics.

I think Laurie is coming off very well too. If she can overcome her trashy coach she is destined for stardom.

      • Guest Says:

I am still guessing how coach Chow is thinking of her now. Maybe it is not a bad thing that Chow got rid of her reviewing this result today.

  5. sanitynmotion Says:

I’m not even gonna watch but glad to see he got it. I just saw only olegs floor and he’s not as good as Kohei.
