2016 Olympics: Women’s team

For the second Olympics in a row I will be at Fenway during the team finals.

US has posted their line up

VT: Laurie, Aly, Simone

UNB: Simone, Gabby, Kocian

BB: Aly, Laurie, Simone

FL: Laurie, ALY, Simone

Congrats to Kohei on leading Japan to the team Gold. 3 full AA’s in like 5 days. I hope this doesn’t screw with his AA.

  1. Case Says:

So ultimately we brought two bars specialists. Brilliant!

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I said this from the beginning. HOW stupid. 2 bar specialists yet they still are making Simone do all 4.

It’s because Marta doesn’t want any more call-outs on why Laurie was not selected to do all around, because if Laurie pulled out a good bar set for sure she would have beat Douglas’ AA score in Quals.

    • gymmom2 Says:

What is it with Gabby not covering her heart during the National Anthem – showing her class to the end…

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I also noticed that when Aly and the team did a “go USA” chant (with their hands in the center of a ring), Gabby didn’t even chant or say anything. The rest of the girls screamed “Go USA!” and Gabby said nothing. She just went through the motions.

I don’t like it and don’t get it. What does she have against our country?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I can’t believe I am going to say this but dont believe the media hype. We all know Gabby doesnt want to be there s0 this is just Gabby being Gabby. When someone like her feels so self entitled they just don’t care about the world around them. That fits Gabby to a t. She doesnt care about about anyone but herself I seriously doubt she has some hidden agenda against the Country. She’s just so into herself that th e rest of the world is irrelevant.

  2. Exgymgurl Says:

Wait didn’t Ashton have a higher bars score than gabby?
Oh and the Dutch expelled van gender from mag for drinking

  3. Melanie Says:

Trautwig pissing everybody off. Wonder why his panties were all in a bunch.

    • Guest Says:

Trautwig just only needs to keep throwing shade on Nastia. It is a very stupid move that he commented such things about Simone’s parents.

  4. Guest Says:

Finally Gabby just plays the role of an event specialist. I feel Mykayla and Ashton are crying.

  5. Guest Says:

Some behind story of Shawn in 08. I just wonder if someone asked her how she feels Nastia’s gold ribbon shade on her 2 years ago.

  6. KG Says:

So basically we should have brought mykayla so that Laurie could at least have had a fair shot at AA (probably still would have been Aly in the end) and then we would have likely had two event finalists in every event.

    • Guest Says:

Martha putting Gabby in AA qualification is all about advertising. No matter who Aly or Gabby get to final, Martha has nothing to lose.

If Aly gets to final, the story will be Aly fight for redemption of losing tie-break in AA medal 4 years ago.

If Gabby gets to final, the story will be Gabby defending her AA champions and she may win one more silver medal like Nadia Comaneci in 1980.

Just because Laurie is a rookie, there is no sensational story behind her that’s why she is screwed.

Though I congrats Aly finally made it, I still feel sorry that Laurie isn’t the one fighting the final spot in qualification.

      • Ss Says:

I think it has way more to do with Steve Penny then Martha. Martha seems to have a general disdain for Gabby in most of her media questions. I think Penny demanded she be on the team, and Martha obliged since they were clearly going to win either way.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree and now I question Marta’s integrity.

      • SS Says:

I mean, I think Martha’s integrity has always been questionable. No doubt she has changed significantly but the stories from the 80s are there for a reason…

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Integrity is the opposite of Marta Karolyi. Like they say though no matter who was in that 5th spot the US was winning, so at the end of the day Marta’s swan song is protected.

Gabby was there for her endorsements and money, and to sell the story of defending her title.

I knew from the second she made the Team she was going to be given a chance for the AA.

      • Sainabou Nyang Says:

Its wrong but you gotta remember at the end of the day Steve Penny is a bizness man who has to keep thise sponsers happy. Thats all he cares about. Its like USAG was bought by a private equity firm and Penny has to work to keep the shareholders happy. Gotta sell tickets, merchandise, drama, bring in ratings and more. Otherwise the shareholders AKA sponsers walk away.

    • Katie Says:

And every single girl would have a legit chance at getting a second medal. Gabby is the only one who has no shot.

      • Guest Says:

Gabby’s 9.266 E scores on bars is ridiculous. She is no way to have better execution than Musta. It is a joke that NBC call this routine flawless. Maybe the judges just want her to be in EF Final. I just hope Gabby will be the only one member go home with a single medal.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        Um, the judges:
        1) wanted Gabby in the EF
        2) wanted to give Gabby the edge she needed to potentially take over Aly should Aly make a mistake.

That’s how I took those bar scores.

At nationals and Trials, Gabby’s bars were in the low-15s. Now all of a sudden she scores a 15.8? That’s higher than Locklear’s bars, by the way, and we all know Locklear is the real flawless one when it comes to execution.

Gabby’s bars in Quals were good, but no way 15.8 good. Or 15.733 or whatever the eff it was.

And she got stuck in a handstand as part of that routine…that should have been a deduction.

What I thought was even worse was Gabby’s beam score. Almost NONE of her connections were really connections – much time between each – yet she still gets credit. Her leaps out of connections never reached 180 (did anyone else notice that????) and yet she never got deducted for that. Her form on beam alone has gone down the hill since London. Her leaps used to be much better.

Even some of Aly’s leaps are better executed than Gabby’s. I’m not even joking. That was what I noticed and I used to hate Aly’s leaps.

  7. Cupquaked Says:

Anyone seen this video? LOL. I didn’t even know existed until today.

  8. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Regarding the start list, I couldn’t help but notice Russia’s line-up. Both Melnikova and Aliya do the AA, something surprising because I thought that Seda would do vault instead of Aliya to rest her. Both have similar vaults and Aliya likes to scratch off vault if she is able to since her knee injury. No bars or vault for Seda. She wasn’t expected to do bars, but it is vault what baffles me. If the difference between her and Melnikova wasn’t so pronounced in quals, I would be worried that Russia would pull a Galieva on poor Seda, but I don’t think so. The difference in scores was too great.

  9. chris Says:

is anyone else having problems with their vpn? I was using Hola to stream the BBC coverage and it’s suddenly stopped working…

  10. Cupquaked Says:

Oh my god. I’m so tired of people hating on people like Laurie for her “lack of artistry.” I’m in a FB arguement with this snit who tried to say that Ethyora’s routine also wasn’t “artistic” because it wasn’t balletic. I’m so over these 4YF.

    • Ss Says:

Love Laurie and have nothing but respect for her, but I hate her floor dance. She looks so manic and spastic in it. In someways it reminds be of old Pozar routines, lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She over does it and I don’t call what she does artistic at all. Artistry has flow to it and fluidity she literally just flapped through her prelims routine. I thought that was the worst she looked doing it all season. It was very rushed.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I like Laurie’s movement on beam. If she could do those same type movements on floor I think it would look less spastic.

But maybe it’s the music too, I dunno.

Still better than Gabby’s horrid floor though.

      • lovelucas Says:

I think Laurie’s music really suits her. Her “spastic” movement isn’t that at all. They’re jazz isolations and she does them well. They’re really choreographed perfectly with that music. Think you add her sparkle and eye contact and just general joy and those are ingredients for a high scoring routine.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Lol don’t read my last comments then.

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I have to say that since Gabby won the AA with Panamericano’s music, almost all floor routines seems an improvement to me from the artistry point of view.

    • Guest Says:

I think they should turn to watch Rhythmic Gymnastics.

  11. Ilanchik20 Says:

If Gabby wins a bar medal, I’m out. Sigh

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She is second in the line up so we just need Kocian to hit and Aliya to show up and Daria to hit her 6.7 and for Fan to replace Shang. Sigh we need a lot lol

  12. gymtruthteller Says:

I have been thinking how nice it would be if the new team wore the same leo as the Mag 7 did to win their first team gold medal. Not like area would let that happen but it would be nice.

  13. gymnerd Says:

Did the team ever reveal their name? “Fiercer Five,” “Squad Gold”? I haven’t heard anything yet. Or does that not happen till they go out on tour?

  14. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Regarding Ukraine’s yesterday performance in men final, in which they only present two gymnasts in several apparatus, getting a zero for them. Vernieivev has explained in his Instagram that they discovered that they won’t be competing as a full team 15 minutes before the beginning of the competition when one of his teammates was back from the hospital. He apologizes to Switzerland (the first reserve team) for the situation, but he doesn’t explain why he didn’t compete and why other teammates couldn’t fill for them, when it is a five-member team. https://www.instagram.com/p/BI3mfxGBB7l/

  15. Mim Says:

    IT’S GO TIME!!!

  16. Exgymgurl Says:

    Modern version of 96 stunning

  17. KG Says:

    LOVE the leos!!

  18. H Says:

Wow Aly .1 behind Biles amanar

  19. Melissa Says:

Those leos though!! I am sad I can only watch until 4 😦

  20. lovelucas Says:

    Man…Major makeup job on Gabby

  21. Ilanchik20 Says:

    Ellie fall on beam.

    Shang falls on bars.

    Fun times

  22. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    Shit, Chusong fell. :(.

  23. Mim Says:

    Nice floor from Germany!

  24. Bess Says:

Am I missing some sort of cultural or historical significance to the raw wood/ egg shaped/ country signs? Seems a bit…err…unfinished?

    • pikedfullin Says:

I noticed the same thing during the mens team medal ceremony. The medal podiums they were standing on looked like it was nailed and glued together and then painted all while the competition was going on. But… Rio’s gonna Rio….

  25. Mim Says:

Russia on beam while Brazil on floor, ouch.

  26. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Melnikova fells on BB. I am short on swearing words today.

  27. Rocío Martínez López Says:

If Russia medal today, Putin has to build Aliya an effing gold statue.

  28. Akshay Says:

Aren’t the Team USA Leotards pretty similar to that one Kyla wore several years ago? The red stripes look very similar.

Also, can I just say, I’m really enjoying the online feed’s coverage. Kupets, Horton, et al. are much better than Nastia, Tim, and Al.

    • Case Says:

I actually think Courtney Kupets is a pretty decent commentator too. Definity better than Nasty-a.

      • tulip Says:

She runs circles around Nastia. Doesn’t babble and mention “my dad “on a regular basis

Kupets and Roethlisberger are both commentators for college gymnastics and do a great job imo

      • lovelucas Says:

I agree and I was prepared not to until this year when I was able to watch/listen on NCAA SEC competitions. Kupets is actually really good. Her one-on-ones at the Trials were good, too. Very relaxed and created an environment where the interviewee was also relaxed. Makes a big difference. Plus she KNOWS and calls the skills etc.

  29. Gymnast41 Says:

Random, and probably will be discussed later. But they are SOOOOOOOO setting up gabby to possibly medal on bars. I’m gonna need Elisabeth Seitz and her to fall in finals for sure.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

That and Maddie. Maddie scores higher than Musty again. HOW??

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I am sorry but the UB judges are very biased for the United States team. The scores they gave Kocian, Gabby and Aly in quals were unreal and today’s scores are no better. They are going to win the meet by far without gifts anyway, so why are they scoring them so unfairly?

      • KG Says:

I agree. I’m 100% for team USA, but they don’t need the gifts. I guess Penny paid someone for extra tenths, especially on bars. I LOVE Aly and have been rooting for her for awhile now but that bars score yesterday was out of nowhere. Has she cleaned up some? Yes. But not a 14.5ish, JMO.

      • hobarttdavid Says:

Agree — looks like the UB judges will be fine with an EF tie — Kocian and Musty, China gets bronze.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

No ties at the Olympics so whoever has a higher E would get gold. And the way things been going, Maddie been getting a higher E.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I don’t understand. It would be as unfair if the USA needed the tenths, but it is downright stupid when they are going to win by several points already just being scored fairly. They are just showing their unfairness in the most important meeting of the sport and that can’t bode well for gymnastics.

  30. Mim Says:

    • lovelucas Says:

and she did. Nailed that floor – I think it was her best ever. Plus post competition, it was obvious who the captain was/is and why she was put in that position. Respect…..

  31. dianajc99 Says:

    oh a carly landing

  32. dianajc99 Says:

simone and musty at the same time!!

  33. Mim Says:

    Imagine if Japan medals!!!!!

  34. Exgymgurl Says:

So, team USA is putting on a school clinic. When and what and how much does Marta tell Mihai and Aimee to water down floor? Is that why Aly is last? because she understands best how to modify and water down a routine to be safe when team USA doesn’t need the points? OR will Marta just go for broke and wipe the floor with the rest of the world?

  35. dianajc99 Says:

dear NBC. stop showing me cupping..I dont want to see multiple Diva cups ok>

    • tulip Says:

Thank you. For crying out loud- NBC has lost any sense of creativity. They find something and run it into the ground. We get it. They’re cupping. Stop the presses. There are enormous amounts of other things to show as well. NBC just doesn’t seem willing or able to make the effort. Snooze

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh…like that one crazy “massage” from the Amazing Race?

      Who cares?

It’s why Phelps had those blotches on his back.

But again, ok yeah who cares. Show the sports please.

I have always hated NBC. Wish the Olympics could be covered by some other major cable channel.

  36. Mim Says:

WTF are the beam judges doing?

  37. lovelucas Says:

I think the US Beam Scores: Aly -15.0 Simone 15.3 Laurie 15.233

  38. Tortuga Says:

OMG I’m hoping for a Japan podium finish!

  39. lovelucas Says:

Last gymnast up for China on floor fell out of bounds.

  40. Rocío Martínez López Says:

I think Paseka just assured a medal for Russia. Effing Valentina should be kissing Aliya’s feet. Without her, they would be far away from the medals.

  41. Mim Says:

Aly’s routine crying omg. And Paseka’s vault was pretty good!

  42. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    Simone needs 7.591 to win.

  43. lovelucas Says:

    We are the Final Five!

    • exgymgurl Says:

      THey are Martas final five
Not the final team of five…. Kupets is so …… Paseka nailing it and Musty slaying it today after quals….. Loved it. That Chinese girl should have taken out that last move on her first tumbling pass.

      • Stephen Says:

They are the final five. 2020 olympics and onwards the teams consist of 4 members each.

      • Guest Says:

It is totally nonsense if it is only 4 spots for a Team in 2020.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

But they said it was more that they are Marta’s final five, they made Marta cry she only cried after Nadia won in 1976. Simone and this team is just phenomenal. Simone made all of them better gymnasts. And the last two people to beat Simone are Kyla at classics in 2013 when Simone withdrew and ohashi at scam

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

So does anyone know why Spiri only got 6.3 during TF? Did the judges legit decided to take .2 away because she got an extra .2 during QF or did she miss a connection? Lol

  44. Mim Says:

I sobbed more for the girls in London but I’m really happy with the result.

  45. exgymgurl Says:

I sobbed more for London too because this one you just expected, but man, seeing Mustafina so happy to take silver and seeing the Russian girls fight for it. That was cool especially after how devastated she was in London

  46. H Says:

    Congrats USA!

Well done. And as far as I saw the only water down routine was Simone taking out the leap after the “Biles” …

  47. H Says:

Today, if Aly had done ub, got the same score as in qual, she would be less then a point behind Biles … (if am not only amazed but instead wrong?)

    • Stephen Says:

Yeah it seems that if Simone falls once even, Aly may have a shot at the all-around gold. Aly could mess up too though so who knows! It’s more probable they’ll both go clean and Simone will win as expected!

  48. dianajc99 Says:

Wait R U at Fenway Now??

  49. Tortuga Says:

As soon as Aly got to see Mihai she took her medal off and put around his neck just like in London, crying.

    • lovelucas Says:

and that’s why we love her. He was right there telling them when the score goes up to jump up on the podium floor. They have such a cool relationship – the ideal coach/athlete combo.

      • Gymbee Says:

They are my favourite pair of athlete/coach ever. I love how they joke with each other. He seems strict, fair, and fun from an outside perspective.

  50. Rocío Martínez López Says:

60.024 for Aliya today. If she repeats the same performance, she would get bronze in the AA. And depending on Aly, even silver (in the case Aly repeats the same performance than in quals and don’t get the gifts in UB and beam that she got then).

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Valentina should seriously count her blessings. And thank Aliya.

Hard to believe they got silver. But such a different feeling about this silver. Much like the 2000 vs 2004 Russia. In 2000, they were pissed about the silver, in 2004, they cried happy tears because they got bronze.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Yeah. Without the boost of Aliya’s scores, they would have gotten fourth place, like in last years’ world, as they had falls and their floor is still weak. I suppose the feeling depends of the expectations. In 2012, they cried of frustration when they saw Grishina and Afan fall on floor because they thought they could fight with USA for the gold if they did their best (unlikely, but the general feeling was that if someone could fight with USA, it was Russia) and they screw it up. Now, they came with a lot of uncertainty, with no team medal in 2015, a bad quals and a lot of uncertainty regarding their consistency and real possibilities. So just getting a medal after all those problems seems like an unexpected blessing for them, when in 2000 it seemed like an insult.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Mustafina carries them the same way Khorkina did for years. I have to say if you told me after 2010 worlds Aly Raisman would have three Olympic golds I would have laughed. Aly is like the little engine that could and so is Gabby. Simone will likely tie and pass three golds but what those two have done is amazing. This team three will likely after this Olympics have more gold medals collectively than any other women’s USA gymnastics team. Honestly forget scoring inflation they won. If Simone competes like that Thursday she should win. I hope she does and I hope she slays EF also. One of my friends said its so sad because the smaller country athletes feel like they let their whole country down if they lose. I think these five know that 15 other girls wanted to be there and could be there and they are letting down team USA if they don’t show why it was them and not 15 other people.

    • tulip Says:

Such a classy move from a classy girl. She is all that athletes should hope to be. And has she turned into a beast in competition. Unless someone out of character happens, I would like to believe that she will be up on that podium with Simone Friday.

And I loved how overjoyed Laurie was. Unlike one person who appeared indifferent at best, she was grinning ear to ear, said ‘wow’ a few times on the podium, teared up and sang the national anthem. It was so nice to see how much it meant to her to beat part of this. Just made me smile

      • tulip Says:

Sorry this was in response to Aly putting her medal on Mihai

      • Mim Says:

Laurie’s genuine wide-eyed enthusiasm and excitement as the competition went on was really a joy to see. I loved it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Lol i find her phony

      • Mim Says:

I think some people are genuinely bubbly, happy and exciteable personality-wise without an agenda, Laurie seems like one of them to me. I’ll take that over GD’s persona any day 🙂

  51. dianajc99 Says:

Anybody else take the buzzfeed quiz? because I got Gabby??

  52. lovelucas Says:

Tacky, bitchy me…..noticed that every stinking projectile vomit news coverage (like aol/yahoo etc) has posted the result with an accompanying photo emphasizing Gabby. Yeah…her….not Simone, not Aly, but the highly rouged major pink lipsticked Gabby.

  53. dianajc99 Says:

    Ha Costes called Nastia..Nasta

  54. david0688 Says:

So should we talk about a dynasty right now or do we wait until 2020? Also, I didn’t know that Amy Chow has kids now. And she’s also doing some kind of promotional thing for kids. Just kind of a side note.

  55. Uglyfatkid Says:

Was it just me, or was the final a complete let down? Don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy for the girls…but the lack of competition made it so lack luster. Trials were WAY more exciting than this.

We all knew we would win, but I’m not sure anyone projected we would win by 8 points coming into the Olympics. I can deal with 2-4 points (2 falls and you are back in the game), but 8!?!? Seriously? I just hope the EF are tighter than this, because the whole point of the Olympics is to see people duke it out. As much as I love Simone, a very small part of me wants to see an upset on one of her events…just to shake things up. But…the other 99% of me wants everything good to happen to her that possibly can…because I love her so much! LOL.

I guess, I just don’t see the point if it isn’t a fight to the death. I’ll still watch, it just isn’t exciting anymore.

    • Case Says:

Agree. NBC can’t even manufacture some team drama to make it interesting when the scores are so far apart.

  56. H Says:

    Aly Mihai 🙂

  57. Exgymgurl Says:

I loved Nastia throwing shade at mikulak on the today show saying he has to hit six routines which he hasn’t done in the same meet if he wants to make podium. Sorry but she’s right. He has huge potential and lacks discipline and consistency. Marta cried after TF. Love that too. Loved the interview where Laurie was imitating Alys wierdo parents. Aly is making dad wear the same shirts to every competition he wore in 2012. Wish they had brought in the parents for the interview like they did in London. Cardboard cut out of Simones head and her brother making the today show is hilarious. BUT I honestly think After watching Marta’s body language she’s going to Romania, I don’t think she can leave this behind as easily as she claims. Imagine if she brings alexandrov with her. I think if Valeri Liukin takes over like people are saying that I will stop watching team USA.

    • Case Says:

Marta certainly seems younger than her years. I could see her taking one more run at a Romanian revival too.

If not Valeri, then who? I’m just not certain they’d give it Rhonda.

      • JAS4 Says:

I imagine they will give it to Valeri but of the two I think Rhonda would be the better choice just because she has lots of experience with Florida of picking line ups for teams and has she was a gymnast and she coached. Valeri basically coached Nastia and competes in men’s gymnastics. Rhonda just seems like a more well rounded choice of the two. I also think Chow or Mihai would be good choices

      • JAS4 Says:

I also agree that Marta may go to Romania. Even if she is not their official team coordinator I could see her being a consultant for them to get their program back on track

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

In several interviews, Marta has said she is going to Romania after she retires to visit family. We’ll see what exactly that means lol

In last month’s interview, someone asked Marta about Romania and she said it’s sad what the program has turned into and their main problem is not thinking ahead and bringing former gymnasts back rather than developing new ones so she may very well go back.

I’m fairly certain it’s Valery but Rhonda will prob be more heavily involved because they’d want a female as the face of wag.

Alexandrov has said he is going back to the U.S after Rio and his daughter lives in Houston–perhaps he could get involved with USAG haha.

      • JAS4 Says:

Maybe that’s really the plan all along for Alexandrov to take over Marta’s role lol

      • Mim Says:

Can Australia shotgun Alexandrov?? WE NEED HIM! Hell, we need Martha to boot out Peggy Liddick and save our program. We have lots of sunshine, good health care and gymnasts with potential haha.

    • H Says:

if you have any links to the video you mentioned, copy and paste please:-)

  58. Bess Says:

Has anyone posted this here yet? Interesting read about the Ukranians…and now I am kind of rooting for them

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I understand, in a way. In Spain, where gymnastics are a very minority sport, you don’t get coverage or founding if you don’t win anything. And it is very difficult to win anything when your program doesn’t have even the basics to be competitive and you don’t have many gymnasts because no parents want to take their children to a gym or for them to pursue a carreer that won’t give them neither money, nor a future. In Spain we had our “golden age” around 2000-2006 with Gervasio Deferr, Elena Gomez and Patricia Moreno (bronze in floor in Athens) while gymnastics were still living off the investments made for Barcelona 1992 and then, nothing. But I also think that they could have done more in team finals, even if they just presented watered down routines in some apparatus. They got to the finals and gave a very poor image not presenting any kind of routine in four apparatus. I understand they couldn’t present competitive ones, but I am sure they could have presented one in each apparatus even for pride’s sake.

I agree I think it would have been better if they had at least done some kind of routines even if they took out their riskier skills

I still think there is something off in the translation…If a teamate got hurt and went to the hospital 15min before the start I get it..But he says a teamate got back from the hospital 15min before..If u have an athlete in the hospital you know u have to replace then and you can if it is more than an hour before. They could have put oleg in and he could have competed watered down routines.

HOLY Cr@P…that was supposed to be just a link not the whole fricken article! I suck…sorry gymtruthteller

Gabby seems very odd during the Team Final. Apart from not putting her hand up when national anthem, she acted very not united in some scenes in the whole team, but we may understand why.

    • JAS4 Says:

Didn’t she out her hand over her heart during the 2012 ceremony?

      • Laura Says:

She had her hand covering her heart in 2012

      • exgymgurl Says:

its a religious thing she has adopted at all the national anthems over the last two years. If she is converting to islam and doesn’t want to say that would explain it. Other religions would explain it. She has to know it doesn’t help her with sponsors.

      • Melanie Says:

I’m with exgymgurl. My guess is she’s a Jehovah’s Witness. They usually don’t even stand during the national anthem, but there’s no way she’d get away with that at the Olympics.

      • Mim Says:

Maybe the Scientologists got her when she was in LA.

Oh and while Sam Mikulak is buried 11th in AA Brooks sits in 5th ending on Pommels, with nearly a point off the podium for third. Yeah somehow I have like zero faith he will make that up on pommel and floor . This would be funny were it not sad that MAG can’t at least pick up on the fact that their golden boys should be donnell and Leyva. At least Leyva pulled out an AA medal.

Men to the last rotation. Oleg is ahead of Uchi by .9.

  62. Lithi Says:

Kohei repeated. Oleg had a hop on the dismount and scored 14.8–14.9 was needed to dethrone Kohei. Oleg silver, Whitlock bronze.

  63. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Oleg lost by one effing hop. Love Uchimura, so I am not dissapointed, but dammit it is frustrating to loose gold for such a little margin. He will dream with that little hop for years.

  64. exgymgurl Says:

King Kohei… but Oleg has a chance at gold on the pbars. and look at what he has overcome he has no training advantages compared to the US men and they squander their talent away and make mistakes that take them to 7th and 14th. Really? Hmmm…. Mikulak’s talent is wasted on his lack of ability to come through and hit six for six in big meets. I hope they don’t squander a Tokyo spot on him.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I actually thought Oleg should have won, even with a hop but damn, it was close. Hope it’s not this stressful tomorrow lol.

They didn’t show all of their routines but didn’t Sam hit 6/6?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Oleg was over scored all night. Don’t ge t me started on his vault with Nastia cowboy or sloppy high bar and 2 steps. LONG LIVE THE KING !!!!!!

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

It didn’t feel particularly overscored but I don’t know men’s code as well so who knows lol.

Anyways, I hope that with Oleg’s silver AA, he’ll some better training conditions.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You wanna fight ? I might have boxing gloves in a box somewhere in the attic tho I’ll need a few days to find them 😉

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

LOL. I believe you–men’s code is not really my specialty.

If they shouldn’t have been that close, it kind of sucks for Oleg cause he’ll forever think if he landed dismount, he would have won. That’s an awful thing to have to get over.
