Live scoring

~~~~~~~
Rotation 4:
Gabby fell on a turn. While Tim was propping her up she fell. Missed her connections time 3, bobbled through whole routine and she still got a 13.700.
JUDGES SUCK
AND WHERE IS MAGGIE’S FLOOR ROUTINE?
Um does Hundley exist at all?
all this talk of improvement on day 2 explains the scoring we are getting night 1.
Missed 1 connection on beam for Aly, well 2 counting the Memmel turn and a single turn but rest was solid. 14.800 Can’t wait to see what Gabby does because it’s obvious Marta wants Laurie in that AA
Skinner hit beam and got a 14.650. I;m kind of liking this:)
Maddie hit beam and biased Nastia is having a field day.lol It was a good routine for her.
They raised Mykayla’s score to a 14.850 on beam?
~~~~~~~~~~

Rotation 3: I am bored. I have watched this game a million times and the same thing is happening.

15.100 on bars for Gabby. actual score I won’t complain about.

Did anyone else see Steve Penney stand up and cheer when Gabby hit her routine. Biased.

Laurie’s beam score was hilariously high. Sorry but these judges esp beam judges just don’t care about what we are seeing vs what they are judging.

Kocian and Locklear tied on bars. Marta being Manny.

Simone nailed beam except her wolf turn which was scary scary and so not given credit but she needs to peak NEXT week.

Anyone else amused that we are getting to see Skinner and having her name propped up because it’s amusing me:)

Kutcher  off beam. stop crying Kutcher. Marta doesn’t like whiners.

Maggie fell off beam but iMO Marta killed her by taking away the Amanar and she knows it. Sigh

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Laurie screwed up bars. Aly hit floor. Gabby had a huge step on her DTY and piked and still got over a 15. MYKAYLA ONLY DID A DTY, Well you know all this.
KOCIAN VAULTED. Fuck you Marta. Good for her.
That was not a carbon copy of Nationals and Simone. that was much better. Shut up Tim.
Sorry Meals and Ragan, You do not exist to Marta.
  1. Case Says:
    Wth why isn’t anyone doing an Amanar? Other than Simone of course?
  2. tennisgrl456 Says:
    How the hell did Laurie get a 14.9 for that bar routine?
  3. tennisgrl456 Says:
    And Madison DOES do a FTY
  4. Ilanchik20 Says:
    Maddie vaulted. Well at least someone didn’t listen to Marta lol.
  5. Case Says:
    Good job Ashton. Keep fighting kid.
  6. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    You guys, Meals is killing it. Pisses me off we aren’t getting to see any of her routines.
  7. Cupquaked Says:
    Well the NBC iphone app freakin sucks. I’ve been trying to watch for the last 45 minutes and the loading sign literally just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning…..I’ve tried 3 different wi-fi connections and my data to get it to work but no luck…ugh.
  8. Case Says:
    The beam is shattering dreams tonight. 😦
  9. tennisgrl456 Says:
    Well, Locklear and Nichols are done. This is super depressing
  10. KG Says:
    I’m so disappointed. Yuck.
    Everything’s going according to plan though. I mean, not my plan, but you know… THE plan.
    Simone, Aly, Gabby, Laurie, and Kocian
    And can I just really hope right now that At least Aly gets a shot at the AA finals….
  11. Gymnast41 Says:
    So like, is gabby gonna fall too or get a 15+ for an okay routine? #thesuspense
  12. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    Skinner was in 3rd after the 2nd rotation…
  13. tennisgrl456 Says:
    59.05 for Skinner for the night. That was unexpected.
    • tennisgrl456 Says:
      Sorry, 59.25
    • Case Says:
      I don’t even like Skinner but I’m rooting for her now just to mess everything up.
      • Cupquaked Says:
        Gabby needs a 14.4 on beam to tie SKINNER in the AA. I didn’t care for her before but now I want her to kill it. Bc if Gabby is 5th in the AA…like how could they justify having her do AA in Rio? It wouldn’t make sense even to 4-year fans.
      • Gymnast41 Says:
        I mean…it’s possible for her to score as low as 14.25 on a bad day and 15.05 on a good day
      • tennisgrl456 Says:
        God I would love a Biles, Raisman, Hernandez, Skinner, Kocian team at this point.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        That’s the team I picked weeks ago:)
    • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
      Aly beam 14.8
      MyKayla beam 14.85
      Just, dang girl! After Skinner splitting the beam at Nationals, she has fought back and had the meet of her life tonight. Plus she is always scored better internationally than at home. Tim said Martha has not taken her eyes off Skinner during podium training….I hope she gets to go, in whatever capacity.
  14. Gymnast41 Says:
    Okay….Lauries scores are officially riridiculous. After seeing that double layout I swear she didn’t score anything higher than a 14.95 (her highest score of the season)
  15. H Says:
    Lauren H. are there and wrote “Aly gets a 59.95 after a 14.8 on beam and Laurie gets a 60.85 with a 15.3 on floor. Aly’s scores are super realistic tonight. Laurie’s scores are…not. At all. Which is confusing because she deserves to be on the team with or without crazy scoring?! Her bars got a 14.9 with a HUGE mistake, and she had probably the second weakest DTY here and the best DTY score. Just…not going to happen in Rio. It sets them up for major disappointment (ahem Jordyn Wieber in 2012, Aly last year) so I’ll never understand the reasoning.”
  16. tennisgrl456 Says:
    Wtf…Skinner’s AA total just got changed again. Now it’s 59.45
  17. tennisgrl456 Says:
    GD just fell…and didn’t even fight…
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      That score was the biggest joke of the night. 2/3 missed connections , bobbles all around and she still got a 13.700
  18. tennisgrl456 Says:
    Skinner is in 4th and Douglas is in 7th!!
  19. Gymnast41 Says:
    Gabby is not making this team. Saying it now.
    • Cupquaked Says:
      Agreed. I think this is exactly what Marta wanted too. I can definitely see a team of Simone, Aly, Laurie, Madison, and Mckayla/or Ragan.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Marta would not be happy firing your coach a few days before trials. It was a bone head move.
  20. Ilanchik20 Says:
    Tim: “she [Gabby] is virtually a lock but mistakes like that can make you an unlock.”
    I’m happy to agree, haha.
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      There is still Sunday night. You people know Marta. No counting your we all have to live with disappointments for when we have an official team.
  21. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    Martha was shaking her head repeatedly after Gabby fell. NBC cameraman stays on the shot of her dejected back like a leech, then we see her crushing her water cup in her fist. If she doesn’t redeem Sunday night, I don’t see how they can justify taking her. Not that justice will matter in their decision. But her decision to fire her coach, or at the very least to cause drama right before the Trials, has to make them consider carefully about her reliability. I almost feel bad for her.
    But YASSSS Skinner and I’ve never been a huge fan of her form, but admire her skill, her difficulty and her balls! That girl triumphed tonight – biggest story of the meet, imho.
    • Gymnast41 Says:
      Honestly if she has a bad night Sunday and makes the team that will look so incredibly shady on USAG and I doubt they’d want to have people think they would take her because of who she is.
      • JK Says:
        The only way I could see USAG (er, I mean Steve Penny) justify taking Gabby to Rio is that she’s a “bars specialist”, and since the US team sucks at that event, she fills that void.
      • Bess Says:
        If they use that reasoning of needing a “2nd bar specialist” that only does bars take locklear and kocian
      • gymnerd Says:
        Wow…41, JK, and Bess…you called it!!!
  22. Mim Says:
    YES MYKAYLA. This girl does always improve as the season continues and she is BRINGING IT. She scored higher than Aly on beam, I can’t.
    GTT I agree with your team combo (Simone, Aly, Laurie, Mykayla and Madison), with Ashton, Ragan and Maggie for alternate. It makes sense.
  23. Exgymgurl Says:
    Marta wants Kocian / Skinner and to leave gabby home.#atleresque
  24. Exgymgurl Says:
    #amanarnation and gabby will blame her coach, but we all have to learn to deal with disappointment
  25. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    Props to Kocian too – she was solid across the board and nailed bars and beam. Happy for her. Devastated for Locklear.
    • Ilanchik20 Says:
      Super sad for Locklear but at least Gabby did crappily.
      Gabby will have to be perfect on Sunday to make the team and she just hadn’t been training to be perfect.
      Since they add points on both days, the best she can hope for is 5th now and that’ll be pushing it.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I get the impression Marta is trying to go for a team of Simone, Aly and Laurie and maybe 2 bars specialists if no Skinners beam getting a 14.850 at any meet is strange esp in US.
  26. Exgymgurl Says:
    Skinner and Kocian are better than gabby / Kocian and I said at PG If Maggie didn’t come here with an amanar that a spot could be hers. Marta loves the Amanar. Skinner is improving and gabby is getting worse plus the drama and trying to steal the spotlight from simone
    • Ss Says:
      Martha was visibly frustrated with Gabby this week and her nomanar. Her comments to the media about Gabby “supposedly” doing it at home but not being mentally tough enough to do it on the podium were pretty clear. Plus I’m sure she thinks Gabby is way too focused on other priorities. Martha’s been so vocal about how clearly Simone is able to do both, she obviously doesn’t feel the same way about Gabby.
      I still say if she doesn’t fall Sunday she will make the team but her AA shot is gone.
  27. H Says:
    I hope someone (press) asks US gym about the crazy scoring …
  28. Exgymgurl Says:
    This is all renminiscent of 2000 and alter ditching her coach melting down at trials. Gabby is a trainwreck, momma Aly is done with her. Marta is done Steve penny has to pretend not to be done. Gabby is too distracting to the rest of them.
    • Ss Says:
      Steve Penny isn’t done. He wants her on that team. Watch her vault again. He bounces out of his seat and gives a standing O (the only one doing so)
    • dianajc99 Says:
      In all fairness it was almost 9 months removed that Atler lest the Rybacki’s.( ironically I saw both today)
    • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
      NBC did show Kocian going out of her way to hug Gabby and hang out to talk with her, maybe before her disaster on beam. That made my esteem rise even higher for Kocian – what an admirable young lady, in every way. She really had the meet of her life and displayed fantastic consistency. I’m still devastated for Locklear but taking Maddie seems like the best idea. I still feel so badly for the athletes that train so hard their whole lives but don’t quite make it. Brenna, Baumann, Maggie, Locklear, Meals…so hard to see. They are wonderful and deserve so many accolades.
  29. Akshay Says:
    I missed much of the meet. Would anyone mind explaining a few things to me, so that I’m caught up?
    1) What happened to Locklear? Nichols?
    2) What is this about Gabby firing her coach? What did I miss now?
    • H Says:
      Loc and Nic fell on beam.
      Gabby, according to NBC had to choose between her coaches due to only one coach per gymnast in Rio, she went with Christian.
      Another version of the story- see the previous blogpost in the end.
      • tulip Says:
        Gabby also needed “someone to spot her” at Rio. Very concerning. Can’t keep a coach and a sad excuse why. If they take her, it is for $$$ which would make fat mom happy because I believe more strongly than ever that Gabby is back because mom spent all her money and someone has to support the family which Gabby has since 16. She looks like the weight of the world is on her and it’s more than sports.
        Been at track and field trials every day and has been wonderful. You either make it on time or not.
    • Mim Says:
      Maggie and Ashton fell off beam. Ashton was basically in tears afterwards and it was super sad to see her look so defeated.
      Gabby is no longer listed as being a Buckeye gymnast and supposedly fired Kittia hours before the competition started. Natalie made up some lame cover story about why.
    • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
      Locklear fell on beam after tying Kocian on bars. Kocian was rock solid on beam. Gabby fired Kittia and is working solely with the ginger guy coach (sorry, forgot his name.) A unnamed “friend of Kittia’s” said Gabby was refusing to train and they were butting heads over it, so Gabby canned her. Excuses have been made that only one coach is allowed on the floor and Gabby feels more comfortable with Ginger Guy. NBC Tim was pretty rough on her talking about it.
      • Ss Says:
        Because he knows he is feeding everyone complete bullshit. Who fires their coach during the trials? It just makes her look completely unstable.
      • Mim Says:
        I can’t imagine Martha is impressed with Gabby’s coaching decision. She aspires for stability and consistency in everything, I imagine that extends to coaching relationships as well. Ain’t no one got time for gymnast coaching drama this close to Rio.
  30. Mim Says:
    I’ve seen a few comments defending Gabby saying “but she peaks late in the season!”.. I know she doesn’t have the same credentials but so does Mykayla. She has consistently shown that she improves as the year progresses, in every year of this quad basically.
  31. H Says:
    Can anyone give short recap of interviews Martha etc
  32. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    20 years from now (or in 18 months when Mama Douglas needs new Louboutins), we will get the real story of what life behind the scenes at Chez Dougas has been like. I don’t think it’s pretty.
    If I were Gabby, I’d move to Europe and not tell my family where I am. But she can’t, cuz she admits the fame is her favorite part. Hot twisted mess she’s gotten wrapped up in.
  33. JAS4 Says:
    I hope Maggie sees the writing on the wall and does the Amanar Sunday night (if she can do it safely). That might be her only chance to make the team. She also needs to be solid everywhere else too. I think Skinner needs to do her Amanar or Cheng if possible on Sunday as well. I know it’s a long shot but I would love to see Amelia get an alternate position.
  34. KG Says:
    So I feel like I have come on here around every team selection time this quad and been like “why skinner?! Ugh!”
    But PLEASE. Skinner! Yes! Can I switch to team skinner? I will take her silly gaffes and over accessorized hair to gabby any day.
    • KG Says:
      But to be clear, gabby isn’t done yet.
      And while she’s opened the door, a less than awful night Sunday that can be over scored and land her top 5/6 will probably still have her going to rio. Because penny, pro, and 4 year fans. And they can call it a redemption or a comeback or something.
      But clearly, what was such a sure thing is a touch less sure.
      Marta’s been a bit catty about her for awhile now. Maybe her sway will win out over penny? I’d think in her last Olympics she might just get whatever time she wants and not what is dictated to her.
  35. dianajc99 Says:
    ok CA will air this “live ” at nine. Yay thanks I just sat through it live. screw nbc
  36. dianajc99 Says:
    Meals literately had the Best meet of everybody on the floor!!!
  37. dianajc99 Says:
    did NBC show Regan’s beam warm up at all?
  38. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    Pretty sad for Maggie. She had it all and then death camp took her out. She DID come in 4th in floor, beating Gabby and MyKayla. And pretty impressed at what she’s able to do so soon after surgery. I hope she can safely do an Amanar on Sunday.
  39. gymtruthteller Says:
    GGMB is freaking out at the thought of Skinner being on this team. It has to happen.lol
    • gymnerd Says:
      Ditto that. BTW, didn’t you and I choose a team of Biles, Raisman, Hernandez, Kocian and Skinner after P&G’s? Let’s go to Vegas.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Yes we did. I even thought it earlier but I figured bo way Marta would take poor Mykayla
  40. Gymnast41 Says:
    if Simone messed up on her wolf turn, and Aly messed up even just a little bit, I was so sure gabby was going to fall. I saw a post saying that Christian was talking to Marta intensely after the meet. It’s reported that Marta’s team hasn’t changed after tonight.
    “Martha has said all along she has a team in mind and it’s stayed consistent. Asked her if anything tonight had changed that. “For me not.””-USA Today
    Basically, she needs a meltdown for mykayla not to be ebee’d
    • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
      UNLESS: Gabby hasn’t been on her “mental” team and tonight underscored that.
    • Gymnast41 Says:
      More quotes to include
      Gabby on Kittia Carpenter: “From the coaching standpoint she’s taking a little step back. For the motivating side she’s taken a step forward”
      “Christian Gallardo said it was a group decision of Kittia Carpenter to step away from the staff”
      MK on Gabby: “Gabby definitely, in my eye, even with the fall on the beam, she presented herself on 3 events better than she trained.”
      Ok…but uh how bad was training and what were you exactly watching today?
      Also, skinner strikes back again in social media, RT’d a tweet talking about how she deserved a spot over gabby. No chill for her ever lol
      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
        I wish Skinner hadn’t done that. She’s in a wonderful position to get on the team based on performance, ability to overcome adversity, keeping her cool in a pressure situation and medal potential. She needs to rise above all the drama and just let her performances speak for themselves.
  41. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    What if they take Ragan, Maggie and Gabby as alternates? Would they even?
    Martha interview via Tumblr: “Has anything changed re: the consistent team you’ve had in mind after tonight?”
    Martha: “For me, not.”
    • Mim Says:
      Unless Gabby has never been on this team in Martha’s mind.. (Long shot)
      • Ss Says:
        Daggett said he asked Martha if she would still have Gabby on her team after night 1 of P&Gs and she said absolutely. So I think it’s safe to say she’s on Martha’s mental team.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        What is she going to say no? Marta is smart
      • Cupquaked Says:
        But what if she hasn’t? An alternate position is still technically “on the team”. Marta could have had a mental team that was Simone, Aly, Laurie, Skinner, and Kocian. With Locklear, Maggie/Ragan, and Gabby as alternates. Bc she could interchange any combination of those gymnasts and still have a great team. It all would have depended on who was consistent and who wasn’t.
        So her saying her mental team hasn’t changed could be that Gabby wasn’t on the competing team but was an alternate, thus still technically apart of the “team”. I know it’s a long shot but I think it’s plausible.
      • Gymnast41 Says:
        But skinner had an awful P&G’s, I doubt she was in her mind after day 2 was over..
      • SS Says:
        rewatching on west coast…I cannot believe Trautwig referred to Simone’s parents as “her grandfather and his wife” ummm wtf. That is so fucking rude. What a slap in all of their faces.
      • Gymbee Says:
        SS, I thought the same. They’re her parents!
  42. dianajc99 Says:
    If you go to NBCBayarea.com there are more trials candids
  43. sanitynmotion Says:
    So many joke scores…Laurie is 2ND after falling on bars (basically) and doing a DTY vault whereas Aly had a strong night. Got screwed on beam.
    Obviously we know Laurie will be that second all arounder…
    Anyone catch where fooktard AL called Simone Gabby Douglas? Ridiculous. Why does he have a job.
    • tennisgrl456 Says:
      Ehh, I don’t know if Laurie will be the second AA athlete. She will definitely be one of the three but I think tonight was a clear case of Laurie being overstored by about 1 point (or maybe even a bit more) and Aly being scored fairly. It doesn’t make much sense bc Laurie will be on the team, inflated scores or not, but this could end up being similar to a Jordyn Weiber situation in 2012. Inflated domestic scores are putting her over Aly now but if Aly continues to do what she is capable of doing, I can absolutely see her grabbing the second AA spot in QF.
  44. Rocío Martínez López Says:
    I missed it all, sorry! I am going to try to find the competition elsewhere. I hope they put it on YouTube later on. For Gabby to be on 7th place, it had to be desastrous for her in more than one apparatus. And Maggie is only 0.50 behind her. Gabby can end up in 8th place quite easily and they will have a rough time putting her on the team. I mean, c’mon, they couldn’t even use the UB excuse because al least one of the AA that are ahead of her, Kocian, have better bars and she wasn’t on the top three of any other apparatus. I have read what you said about politics and promotions being the main reason of why Steve Penny wants her on the team, but I don’t see how it could be beneficial for you to present your sport as one in which you reach the Olympics if you are the favorite of the professor when it is supposedly a meritocracy. If Gabby is so far down in the list, it isn’t justificable and it would give USAG a bad image. Also, I don’t think that Gabby would be good for promotional reasons. She has been around a lot of scandals lately and her image for the fans has deteriorated quite a lot. And you have the risk of further drama at the Olympics or of another meltdown in the most unfortunate moment for the team. I think Martha will reconsider her possition if she doesn’t improve dramatically on Sunday, even if she doesn’t say it right now.
  45. Case Says:
    Wow! I went to bed before Gabby fell on beam but this whole thing just got really, really interesting.
    The Douglas clan clearly has Penny by the balls. Can you really have Gabby in the Rio commercials, on the cover of Teen Vogue, etc and not send her? Not likely. Penny will have NBC paint this whole coaching debacle as yet another challenge poor Gabby has overcome in her career.
    UNLESS…. Gabby totally pulls a Nastia on bars Sunday. Not likely but possible.
    Skinner needs to stay the course here and maybe, just maybe, she can take GD’s spot.
    • Rocío Martínez López Says:
      As they are not going to announce the team right after Trials, they can always say that she had an injury in camp, so she can’t be named. I get the promotional weight they have put on Gabby’s name, but that is not a secure thing. I don’t know how many commercials or deals Nastia had before 2012 trails, but Atler had a ton of deals linked to her making the team (Disney amongst them) and that didn’t secure her a spot after a bad Trials and a much weakened field. USA can get the gold just selecting whatever they wanted from the first 10 spots, but it is a very bad image for the USAG if they took a gymnast that is not even in the top five in the AA and doesn’t have the consideration of a specialist with medal potential in one appartus (two people were ahead of her in UB and she got a score easily achivable by, at least, another seven or eight international gymnasts).
      • Exgymgurl Says:
        They are announcing the team at trials.
      • Rocío Martínez López Says:
        What? First notice. I have read that they have to prove their “readiness” also at camp. Wasn’t that what they did in 2012?
      • Rocío Martínez López Says:
        Still think that the injury route could be an option if she has a desastrous day on Sunday. In any case, you made my day. I am travelling to New York tomorrow from Spain and, with some luck, I will be able to see the announcement live for the first time ever! I don’t think I will be able to see the competition (my plane lands on JFK at 20.00 and I have to take a train to New Haven), but maybe I will be able to see the announcement! 🙂
  46. Case Says:
    What in the world? Did any of you see this article in Elle on Gabby’s sister? Talking about the “sacrifices” she’s made to support Gabby? Lol!
    http://www.elle.com/fashion/news/a37499/arielle-hawkins-gabby-douglas-leotard/
    • Cupquaked Says:
      Lol “wants to step out of the shadow of her sister” but….is using her sister’s fame to promote her “dream”. Also she talked about wanting to combine an evening gown look with a leo…pretty sure Aly did that at 2015 nationals with the white and gold sequined leo…
    • tennisgrl456 Says:
      ” ‘Being on this gymnastics journey with Gabby has required a lot of sacrifices,’ the 26 year old admits to ELLE.com. ‘It meant putting my life and career plans on hold, in order to be there for my sister and family.’ ”
      Okay, I get that the family was hurting for money prior to 2012 but what’s her excuse after that? She needed to emotionally support her sister being famous for 2 years prior to her comeback? She couldn’t go to college or get a job bc she had to be there to “assist” Natalie in managing Gabby’s career? Or was it bc she was too busy drawing out the plans for one or two leotards (which obviously takes a solid 3 years)?
    • Exgymgurl Says:
      I don’t even think Gabbys brother attends Berkeley. They went and looked at some apartments that weren’t good enough for him. The whole train wreck is ridiculous. Brenna and mykayla both had both of their coaches on the floor. Kim and Chris are with Ragan. There is no reason other than she fired Kittia, which is sad for Nia, and Chow, / Shawn, and the Virginia beach gym. She was a tremendous talent. It’s obvious she’s not doing full routines in training at home like Marta told them after the last camp. She doesn’t want to be there. Her conditioning is just poor. Aly was complaining at PG about the number of full routines but looks great. Gabby won trials in 2012 she won’t win here.
      My two cents is there is a lingering issue she is hiding. But whatever she’s done she’s taken the spotlight off Simone and the gymnastics. Simone’s Rio earned hardware will speak for itself. Gabbys drama is drawing the spotlight to her which is sad and will not make for a good team dynamic
      • Mim Says:
        I get the vibe gymnastics is Gabby’s job. She’s good at it, it more than pays the bills for herself and maybe her family.. But she really doesn’t seem to have the passion or love for it, at least not anymore. Girl seems OVER this sport.
        I need to vent after reading Twitter.. I know there are some prominent gymnastics fans defending Gabby. Sure, she’s competing adequately enough by being middle of the pack but I cannot stand the commentary e.g. “Oh she’ll peak later” .. Well, NO OTHER GYMNAST is getting the benefit of the doubt to peak after trials, why should Gabby? The fact that she’s a former Olympic champ is irrelevant to me, same for Aly. It should be about what they are doing NOW. Not what they did before, not necessarily what they maybe potentially could do in one month. Gabby shouldn’t get to compete on a subpar level but get put on the team for putting in more effort or getting more consistent in a few weeks, when others are expected to be ready now. In that case, let Simone rest on day 2 instead of competing at all and name her to the team because she’s the 3 time world champ and we know she’ll bring it in Rio (yeah right). If Gabby had had a stellar classics and Nationals, it might be different and a bad day 1 would probably be just that, one bad day. But she didn’t. Rant over.
    • Gymbee Says:
      Mim, I completely agree! The Gabby-fans are very vocal about “she always peaks later!!” If Skinner had an atrocious championship and trials no one would put up that defense for her.
      I had a thought today – if Gabby was named alternate, do you think she would turn it down? As we saw at P&G’s and at trials, she doesn’t seem to have the motivation to train for an actual spot on the team, let alone continue training as an alternate.
      • Ilanchik20 Says:
        I never thought I’d say this but I do hope Marta does what she has always done–do what’s best for the team or at least pick those gymnasts she likes.
        Gabby does not meet either criteria. She is not what’s best for the team because 1) she only contributes one TF event at best and 2) it would really mess with team dynamics because the rest of the girls know she doesn’t deserve that spot. This especially goes to Simone whose best friend may very well be getting screwed if Gabby is on the team.
        And Marta obviously does not like Gabby anymore.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        Best for team is a stretch. She’s never done that.
    • gymnerd Says:
      “In conjunction with GK Elite and another Douglas sister, Joyelle, Hawkins is flexing her style prowess to design Gabby’s US Olympic Team leotard.”
      Um, yes, I’m sure Arielle Hawkins will be designing Gabby’s Olympic team leotard…the one they all wear. So Gabby’s sister is designing the Olympic team leos? I have a bridge to sell you.
  47. H Says:
    Alys d-score on floor dropped from 6.6 to 6.4 at trials
    Anyone see why?
  48. Rocío Martínez López Says:
    Ok, lots of competitions today. Trofeo Yomo di Torino is on live now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fidYZipLfMU. Today are also a meeting between Brazil and the Netherlands, a meeting between Romania and France (they have announced that Cata is not going, I don’t know about Lari) and German Trials too.
  49. gymmom2 Says:
    Skinner – what can you say- the girl has consistently beat all the nay-sayers. Most people would have her already at Utah rather than deferring to try for the Olympics. Got to admire her grit and determination… who would have thought she would be the one to save us from Gabby? I’m thinking Devine intervention 🙂
    Not to mention Marta loves having high vault score advantages in TQ and TF.. Count me officially on team Skinner.
  50. Gymbot Says:
    Thanks GTT and crew for detailing all that happened, I missed it all and will have to miss night two as well. I am excited for all of these unexpected curve balls. I’m hoping for gutsy performances from skinner and Maggie, fingers crossed
  51. Ilanchik20 Says:
    Gabby’s interview was hard to watch
    • gymtruthteller Says:
      We all know I am not watching that.lol so what was so hard to watch about it ? Is she still self entitled 0r am I supposed to feel sorry for her now because she finally realizes half asssing it for a year and a half and getting special treatment isn’t going to cut it in an Olympic year ? I refuse to feel sorry for her because the day of the Olympic trials she might have finally realized she has to actually show up and train and work for a spot on this Olympic team. I really have not seen the video so I am not sure which way she rolled but regardless 14 other gymnasts at trials have been working their butt off for years and I will feel sorry for one of them not the girl who has been given a free pass d0r 2 years . Now the rant is over
      • Case Says:
        GTT, I watched it. It’s only 1 min long but I think you’d enjoy it. Girl is a mess right now.
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        I refuse to watch her. It’s better for sanity and while I can feel bad because of her mother I feel worse for someone like Maggie not getting a chance because Gabby is too busy getting a free pass. Mess or not she only has herself to blame .
      • gymtruthteller Says:
        The only gymnast I find joy is watching fall apart of Nastia 🙂
  52. Rocío Martínez López Says:
    Vanessa Ferrari came back from injury with a 58.950 at Italian Nationals. She is definitely back.
  53. Ilanchik20 Says:
    And another one:
    http://bhs-loso.tumblr.com/post/147145237184/sparklesandchalk-odetonorahflatley-shes
    • gymmom2 Says:
      I don’t think it really occurred to her that she might not make it until tonight. And now it’s to late to go back and to the hard training she should have been doing. She likely was telling herself, she was saving her body – that she knew more than her coaches ( well she obviously always has thought that) Almost feel sorry for her. With a mom like she has, she obviously didn’t get the grounding she needed early in her life to handle the fame and fortune that has come. Then again, she didn’t seem to have absorbed any of those life lessons from all those hours in the gym with her teammates and coaches and she likely spent more hours there – especially since she lived with a gym family that last time she trained for the Olympics ( which she dished afterwards- okay not feeling sorry for her now that I think about it)
    • sanitynmotion Says:
      Whatever. At the end of the day it’s being given to her even though it’s evident she doesn’t deserve it. I’ll never feel bad for her. Shes taking someone else’s hard earned spot, and that’s who I feel bad for.
      Based on night 1 that spot is clearly Skinner, and not so clearly Maggie. Maggie shouldnt listen to Marta she really just needs to throw that amanar.
      • gymmom2 Says:
        You are so right. Hope Skinner nails it Sunday and stays ahead of Gabby. Would be hard to argue she doesn’t have the international experience and Marta seems to like her. Would so love her to be the dark horse that dethrones queen Gabby. She’s like the little engine that keeps chugging away even though a lot of pundits had already written her off. Bet they show her beam routine Sunday – assuming she manages a decent bar set. Never thought I would be on team Skinner, but I will be cheering for her on Sunday.
      • Mim Says:
        Skinner starts out wobbly at the beginning of the year and improves as the season goes on, she has every year. She has cleaned up her form a lot, she has plenty of international experience, she can bring an amanar, she theoretically *could* be used on all four events in a desperate situation (you wouldn’t but she at least trains AA and you could put her on bars and beam if something happens) and complements Madison on the team and adds a bit more to the team score, she at least has a shot at EF finals and maybe an individual medal, international judges don’t hate her as much as people expected they would, she’s healthy and not injury prone… I think she’s actually a really decent choice for the team.
  54. Melanie Says:
    I’m at the coaches’ conference and watched the first night of Olympic Trials from right behind the beam, but only have a few thoughts to add.
    Beam workshop with Tammy Biggs: Marta doesn’t like springboard mounts because of Alicia Sacramone. What up, Aly and Brenna? Also, she said that if the US is good at something, the IOC/FIG will do everything they can to screw us over. She does NOT like the international gym-powers-that-be.
    Vanessa Atler is here. Sat behind her in a beam dance drill workshop. Nobody recognizes her (except for me?). I’m not sure if she enjoys the anonymity or not.
    Mykayla Skinner looks better live than on TV. Her bars releases were HUGE compared to what they used to be. I am not a huge fan, but I’m totally loving how she’s throwing a wrench in the works. It was actually fun to root for her, Kocian, and Hundley.
    I’m really hoping Simone is just nervous and not getting tired already. The last couple of meets, she’s seemed a tiny bit more exhausted and burdened.
    We’ll see what night two brings!
  55. Melanie Says:
    Also, here’s this gem:
    “I just haven’t felt the same passion,” Douglas said after the meet. “I’m not giving up, but I know by Sunday that something needs to change.”
    “We have seen this before, and I am not surprised by it, even if I am not pleased by it.” (Marta, on Gabby’s preparedness and not peaking early)
    “I would not have done it, but if there is not good chemistry with the coach, then it is the gymnast’s decision.” (Marta, on the coaching change)
    • gymnerd Says:
      WTF?! If she doesn’t want to be there, there are 13 other girls who’ve worked their butts off who would kill for a spot. Give it to one of them!!!
  56. gymmom2 Says:
    I think if Simone is getting tired she it likely the only one that can say “no” during the death camps and get away with it. And, I think Boorman may just be protective and naive enough to stand up for her. Not meaning any slight on Boorman – she has managed Simone well, but it’s not like she has a track record of being a great coach. She never had anyone before – nor does she have any upcomers – and I understand Marta would have preferred Simone elsewhere, but SImone wasn’t having any of it. Instead Marta send specialists to Simone to help on her weaknesses. So this is Boorman’s ticket, getting cowed by the USAG crowd at this point is not in her or Simone’s best interest. And since everyone knows its Marta’s last rodeo, it’s not like she can screw you in the future. Probably why people like Kocian thumbed their nose at the “suggestion” of things like “Don’t do vault.” We can only hope.
    “I don’t think it’s really happened in workouts before,” Raisman said. “Before I even started my tumbling pass I just felt it come undone. There’s two loops that go around my foot. One of the loops came undone so the other one thankfully stayed on, but I was nervous it was going to flop off during my floor routine. Thankfully it didn’t. Maybe it was better I was thinking about that instead of actually thinking that I was at the Olympic trials.”
    I had no idea – she handled it well.
  59. Ilanchik20 Says:
    Well based on this IG article, Marta still plans to take Gabby and prob have her do AA.
    http://www.insidegymnastics.com/#!When-Martha-Speaks/cd9n/578168a00cf25c6b0c193ff7
    • H Says:
      Well … Martha also indirectly says that if she is not ready enough Martha is not afraid to keep her off the team. The difference though this year is that G. is not only peaking late (as usual) she is not her usually self, also according to Gabby herself. (not sure if what I wrote made sense in english ..) but Gabby need not only to be consistent and more energetic in her gymnastics, she also need to have some passionated fule to make that happen. And does she? According to Gabby? or from an outside perspective at least it seems like she is indicating, or questioning herself if she has more fuel/passion to give.
    • Guest Says:
      If GD is still selected into the 5-member team when her day-2 performance sucks like day-1 in Trials, it would probably be the biggest disgrace in USA gymnastics history.
    • Jessica Says:
      Well, even if this comes to pass, I don’t think she’ll make the finals at the Olympics. Look what happened to Jordyn. I just hope that Aly gets the chance to try. I really think she has a shot at the podium this time. I guess Sunday we’ll just have to wait and see. I hate waiting. LOL 😝
      • dianajc99 Says:
        what happened to Jordyn had to do with position in the line up. It was designed to favor Gabby.
      • Jessica Says:
        I disagree with that. Jordyn was the world champion. If they really wanted to play that game, Aly would have been screwed over. Jordyn was the “it” girl coming into 2012. Yes, Gabby “beat” her at AM Cup and at trials, but I saw that more as lighting a fire to enthuse fans and create a false rivalry, not a ploy to screw Jordyn.
      • Jessica Says:
        I went back and looked at the qualification video. The lineup had Jordyn following Gabby on all but bars. So that theory is blown. The lineup had nothing to do with Gabby getting the second AA spot.
        Scores are allegedly supposed to increase as the gymnasts perform, so you put your best on as the anchor and the “worst”, and most likely to score the lowest, first. With that thinking, Gabby went before Jordyn except where she was best-bars.
  60. tulip Says:
    What I am looking forward to is what will come out once Marta is gone. Alicia, Holly Vise, Chellsie, and the many many others who got lied to, messed with, shunned, kicked off, screwed over etc…. if I were a publisher, I’d be recruiting for a tell-all of USA gymnasts, Marta, the FIG and general judging corruption.
    I’d read that.
    • Cupquaked Says:
      That won’t happen for a long time. If ever. I think there are many aspects of the last 16 years that we won’t ever know about. USAG won’t let it happen.
  61. gymmom2 Says:
    Are there any videos of Skinner from day one of trials. I found some for almost everyone else. Am I just missing them? Or, is just getting the redheaded step child treatment?
    • dianajc99 Says:
      nope none up yet. sux that we have to wait for USA gym to get clearance from NBC. I’m waiting for goweys FX to get a closer look at her strange fall.
  62. JAS4 Says:
  63. Jessica Says:
    Okay, this is not scientific or anything. I used the gymnast’s best score from the first day of nationals and trials (whichever was higher) to see who should compete in the 3 up team final. Using the default team A as Simone, Aly, Gabby, Madison and Laurie and team B as swapping out Gabby for McKayla.
    Based on their scores, Team B would add .45 points with McKayla’s Cheng vault. She also has the potential for an individual vault medal. Bars wouldn’t be affected as Gabby’s best was 15.1 at nationals and if you swapped her out for Simone, her best score was at trials day 1 (so far) for a 15.1. Gabby probably wouldn’t make any finals and if she did make bars, the field is too strong for a realistic shot at a medal.
    This is starting to look like a no brainer for me.
    • JAS4 Says:
      I was really hoping for Maggie to make the team but unless she just has an amazing day two (like coming close to Simone or beating her kind of day) I just don’t see it happening. I would like to see MyKayla on the team though because she and Kocian would complement each other well and she also brings the possibility of a VT medal or possibly a FX medal if others were to mess up. She and Kocian can also fill in on any event if necessary. I would love to see Amelia be an alternate (she could put up a decent score on any event if necessary) but I don’t even think she is on Marta’s radar right now.
    • Ilanchik20 Says:
      Skinner is a much better candidate but this would require Simone to do AA in TF. So I say this only works if Amy agrees to this. Normally; a coach wouldn’t have a say in this but as Simone’s coach, I say she does and should.
      • JAS4 Says:
        They could technically probably use Skinner on bars in TF if absolutely necessary and it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. If Maggie were on the team they could have her do VT/FX in Quals and do VT/FX/UB in TF but I think Penny will want Gabby on the team no matter what
      • dianajc99 Says:
        There no reason for Simone not to do AA in TF. she was a bars finalist in 2013
      • Jessica Says:
        Yeah, I think it’s overblown BS that Simone can’t do bars in TF. like it’s been pointed out, she’s a world finalist in bars. And for goodness sake, Shawn did it and so did Gabby and they both went on to medal in the AA finals. And, forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but Simone is a wolrd class elite athlete. She’s uses to doing waaaay more routines in an average day of training as opposed to the team final where she gets to rest in between sets. I think she’ll be fine.
      • Rocío Martínez López Says:
        I think that Simone doesn’t need to rest for one apparatus in Team Final. We have seen her do all the apparatus in World Championships and other competitions lots of times without any problem and bringing home all kinds of medals. What her coach needs to do, in my opinion, is making sure that she rests at Martha’s death camps and gets to Rio refreshed and ready to give her all. I only see the need to rest Simone in the Olympics if she gets there already exhausted because of Martha’s camps. If she is okay, she can do bars without any problem, with a high score and with consistency.
      • JK Says:
        I know this sounds crazy, but I think Aly could be a possibility to do bars in TF if Skinner makes the team over Gabby. Yes, her form is terrible and she has been inconsistent in the past… but I think in a “team” situation, she’s mentally capable of handling the pressure to hit a routine.
  64. the dude Says:
    Is it me, or did Aly made a dig at Gabby here..
    • Cupquaked Says:
      The “super talented but doesn’t work very hard” comment? It makes me think of Gabby but also a number of other gymnasts as well.
  65. Uglyfatkid Says:
    At “Chalk Talk” before day 2. I think we get to hear from Nastia, Shawn, Jordyn, and Horton. Do you think I would be escorted out if I yell “Slut!” Everytime Nastia speaks??? I’m seriously tempted.
  66. Gymbee Says:
    Who thinks Gabby will be on “Dancing with the Has Beens” this autumn? GTT, your name for the show still cracks me up.
  67. Melanie Says:
    A bunch of coaches and club owners are talking about how Gabby is sleeping with Gallardo. None of them has proof, but I heard it from at least three different sources.
    I also heard Dan Baker apologize to Cheryl Jarrett that he couldn’t make the “banquet for Valeri.” He asked her to tell Valeri congratulations for him. Official announcement soon?
    • Gymnast41 Says:
      Ummm even that is hard to believe lol 😂 Not that I don’t think she’s pretty or anything cause she is, it’s just she looks she won’t let anyone touch her, even Simone or her mom haha
    • Katie Says:
      Wow. That would be pretty crazy. Hope it’s not true because that would take all the awful decision-making so far to a whole other level.
      • Katie Says:
        IF this is true, and I really hope it’s not, but this could be what keeps Gabby off the team. The only reason she is even on the team at this point is because she’s pro and can bring the marketing and $ with her status as reigning AA champ. That’s all she has over the others that are in contention for the fourth spot. But if she is having a relationship with her coach, I don’t see USAG or her sponsors wanting to have anything to do with that.
      • Ilanchik20 Says:
        Wow.
        I hope it’s not true–shady. But if it is, it would make sense why he was willing to leave Waller’s gym to move across the country and why she has “better chemistry with him than Kittia.”
      • tennisgrl456 Says:
        Christian didn’t move across the country to Buckeye, Gabby’s other male coach did. He’s been at Buckeye for years.
      Valeri was inducted into the HoF, isn’t that it?
      • Melanie Says:
        That must be it. You wouldn’t think they’d be stupid enough to talk about that out in the open. Rhonda Faehn might cut one of them.
    • onelifeonejourneyonealex Says:
      If this is true, I’d like it to be known that I called th at shit at her first meet back.
    • Exgymgurl Says:
      It’s their body language, the fact that gabby doesn’t stay with the other athletes in her USAG assigned room at competitions, she gets her own room usually. Even with her being of age it’s a violation of coach athlete code of conduct, and could lead to him being banned from USAG.
  68. Uglyfatkid Says:
    Going to meet Kyla Ross. What should I ask her? Any lingering questions?
  69. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:
    So jealous Melanie and UFK!
    NBC is offering the first ep of Season 1 “Douglas Family Gold” so I’m watching it. Yuck. Gabby: “You would think that as reigning Olympic gold AA medalist, I would be on the National team but NO. I actually have to TRY OUT. :eyeroll hair toss:”
    And her mom. Just wow. Good looking family, huge McMansion in LA, and that doesn’t come cheap. Poor Gabby “Cash Cow” Douglas.
    And holy sh*t, Melanie – on the Gallardo/Gabby rumors. That could be a bit distracting for her….
  70. Gymbee Says:
    “I came back and said, ‘Yes, this is going to be cake,’” Douglas said.
    So incredibly cocky.
    • Melanie Says:
      Yeah, even I hope it’s not true. But if I heard the rumors, then I guarantee that Marta & Co. heard them. I’m not that important. 🙂
      • Case Says:
        If this rumor is true, it would cause me to feel bad for Gabby for the first time ever in history. Who does she have in her life that she can trust that won’t cross boundaries or exploit her?
