USA-Gymnastics Olympics year bull shit: Secret  Classic

USA-gymnastics isn’t happy if they are are not pulling their Olympic year bull shit and this year I decided against wasting my time.

As you know Classics is in Hartford and I had planned to go. So I looked up available tickets months ago and you had one of two options. 1 you could spend the extra money and get a bundle which included Men’s National championships or two,  you could buy silver level tickets which was basically nose bleed section. No thanks

It’s an Olympic year so they tried to force fans into attending the men’s competition if they wanted decent seats to Classics. Way to treat your paying customers who attend every meet in their area. USFSA.org tried this for worlds too where individual seats were never on sale to the ladies long so I chose to stay home and not waste my money on any of the competition. At least they didn’t do that for Nationals last year but USA-Gymnastics pulls this BS every chance they get during an Olympic year.

Well above is the link to the junior competition. The Woman’s competition will air on NBC somewhere but I have no clue where my password to prove I have cable is and the boy is out of town so I won’t be watching that either.

So much for Olympic year fun.

Watched some of the men. Saw Lleyva fall. Saw Orozco the clown literally miss every handstand on HB and still get a 15.100. Saw Legendre fall on floor.  They are worse then the woman judges when it comes to cheating.

would really like it if #youhaventmadetheteamyetgabbyd
    would trend

  2. KG Says:

Okay, why do they love orozco??

I don’t follow men’s gymnastics, but every time I stumble across men’s gymnastics updates (when I’m looking for updates on the women), he’s choking or injured… like they made that whole big push last Olympics to promote him and his comeback story… He seemingly choked. Then all I’ve heard since is about him choking when it counts… And while I get that GD is good for ratings, what is orozco’s draw??

    • Gymnast41 Says:

His sob story…it would better promote MAG in the olympics. But really though, what I saw yesterday was nothing to put him on the Olympic team for. As soon as he got on pommels I predicted his fall, and he did. I honestly think he’ll get left home no matter how hard they try to push him because he’s just not quite there anymore

      • Sainabou Nyang Says:

I agree. I watched part of mens national last night and kept thinking that the mens team needs new blood next quad. I was like there has to be some budding stars in this group going into the next quad. Someone who is a good AA threat when Kohei (If he retires) reign comes to an end after Rio.

      • H Says:

in short what is his sob story?

      • Jessica Says:

His story is that he grew up super poor in the Bronx. They love to talk about that. Then he has had a series of injuries and lastly, his mom passed away a year or so ago.

      • H Says:

        Thanks Jessica.

  3. Ilanchik20 Says:

So Bailie did full routines in PT but she is not competing. Can someone please explain this? Lol

    • dianajc99 Says:

she prob just had to verify in front of queen marta

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

On Gymcastic this week, they talked about Bailie this week. So apparently the new rule this quad is that if you don’t qualify directly to Nationals (which Bailie hasn’t), then you can only petition to nationals if you didn’t compete at classics. If you compete at classics but only do 2-3 events, you can only do those same events at nationals/trials.

So perhaps, Kim was protecting Bailie to ensure she can go to nationals and do AA there.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

This reminds me of Memmel gate.

  4. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Ok, WAG finals. Got a little late. Russia improves on vault. 14.916 for Afan, 14.966 for Seda and 14.833 for Melnikova. Romania got the UB out of their way and only Ocolisan fell. GB now.

  5. Rocío Martínez López Says:

GB on vault. Ruby Harrold 14.766. Claudia Fragapane 14.733. Ellie Downie, 15.100. Giulia on bars, 14.133. Switzerland can sneak out bronze. Italy, Germany and Belgium are here with their team B and France tends to choke in the worst moments. With consistency, Switzerland can shine.

  6. Rocío Martínez López Says:

After 1 division: Russia, GB, France, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Romania and Germany. Russia is about two tenths ahead of GB. Romania got UB out of their way, so they can only improve from here with Cata’s help.

  7. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Melnikova UB 14.966. Dasha nails a harder routine and gets 15.386 and Aliya stucks her dismount for a 15.333. Romania is not having a good rotation on beam, with scores of 12.900 and 13.000. Cata is a little hensitant on beam, but she is ages away from any of her teammates. 14.600 for her.

  8. Rocío Martínez López Says:

France did very well on floor. Let’s see if Switzerland can keep up with them.

  9. Rocío Martínez López Says:

GB on UB: Jupp, 14.383. Ruby Harrold fell (I love her routine, but I have never seen her hit it in competition, what a shame), 13.166. Ellie Downie had a very good routine, very powerful, with a 15.066. Seems that Ellie is achieving the consistency she lacked and can be a threat in the all around very soon if she conquers beam as well.
Switzerland on beam: Kaeslin 14.333 (she is very elegant, like her routine). Giulia fell and had a very bad routine here with a 12.900. I am missing one swiss, but I don’t know where her score is, sorry.

  10. Rocío Martínez López Says:

After two subdivision, GB is three points behind Russia with beam and floor to go and beam can be equally horrible or great for them. After them, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland, Romania and Germany.

  11. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Melnikova, 14.800 in beam. Enter Seda…and she fells, dammit! She was having a good routine (Afan tatoo is very distracting, by the way). 13.633 for her. Good Musty, but she missed some connections, so her difficulty score won’t be as higher as in qualifications. But she seems happy and keeps smiling. 14.800 for her.

In floor, Cata is in “I am the boss, bitch” mode and she nails it, a harder routine than in the Test Event, only with a minor problem in her turn, a tripe I think. 14.566 for her and a satisfied grin!

  12. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Watch out for Kaeslin next quad. She has a great potential.

  13. Rocío Martínez López Says:

GB on beam:Jupp, 14.100. Fragapane had a very painful-looking fall with a 13.266. And Ellie Downie falls too, so Russia is virtually the champion, barring a disaster on floor, but a disaster of two falls and one oob each.

Giulia’s floor looks GREAT. 15.033 for her in a competition in which very few people have scored above 14.500 even in quals.

  14. Rocío Martínez López Says:

After three rotations, Russia is seven points ahead of GB and then France, Hungary (that is a surprise indeed), Italy, Switzerland, Romania and Germany.

  15. Rocío Martínez López Says:

On floor, Melnikova 14.133 (she has a good routine, but need some polishing If she fix her turns and their connections, she can improve her scores a lot). Not bad for Seda, but only a 14.000 on difficulty. Musty went oob but the overall feeling is that she did better than in quals. 13.466 for her.

Alison Lepin had a 14.600 on UB with her impressive routine. What a pity she fell on quals.

  16. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Elisa Menghini’s beam looks very good. 14.500 for her.

  17. Rocío Martínez López Says:

End of competition. Russia is gold with 175.212. GB is second with 170.312 and France got bronze with 168.496. Switzerland on four and Romania in sixth place, more than ten points behind Russia, with whom they were fighting for the Olympics medals not so long ago.

  18. Rocío Martínez López Says:

At the end of the competition, lets say that if Larissa is not very, very ready to go to Rio (and she doesn’t seem to be), Cata is going for sure. With a vault above 15.000 and improved beam and floor, she is really on fire for her age and the time she has been away. Also, she shines amongst her teammates, who are ages away from her in terms of artristy, execution and difficulty. If she has a good day tomorrow at event finals, she is going to Rio. Larissa would need a miracle. She would need to show that she is last year’s Lari and she has been out a very long time.

Russia is improving, but their floor is abismal without Afan. After today, Melnikova and Musty are going to Rio and probably Seda is out of the question. They need desperately to boost their scores on floor, so if Afan can do floor, she is going, no question asked. If she can pull that long-rumored Amanar, even better, but her floor is very important for Russia. Paseka’s vault is also very desirable, so if she is healthy, she is going too. The last spot is debatable. Valentina seems to be waiting for Komova, but I think is too late and she has been injuried and out of training for too much time to be ready for the Olympics. If Musty can’t do the AA, they need another AAer to compete with Melnikova. If she can, they could choose between a beam/bars specialist with an usable floor or a floor specialist with a good beam to compensate for Paseka. Kapitonova, with a good floor and UB could be a good option if Afan can do beam or Kharenkova if they want to risk it.

Romania, for her part, is 10 points behind her former competitor for gold and only hold together by Cata. It is telling that Hungary, who wasn’t even good enough to be on the Test Event, got a higher position than them. The good news are that the juniors had a good competition and could save Romania’s future, because its present is very black.

  19. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    And videos! Cata’s floor routine:

    • sanitynmotion Says:

That was great – much better than her podium. Yeah, I guess I would be surprised of Larissa can prove she’s better than that in 2 months. Or even the same.

  20. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Melnikova’s floor routine. Her music reminds me of some other routine, but for my life I can remember whose it was. A Romanian, maybe Chelaru’s, but I am not sure. It is bugging me big time, so if someone remembers whose music it was before, I would be very grateful:

  21. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    Aliya’s UB:

  22. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Read on Twitter that Russia is changing Melnikova for Dasha for UB finals. Today, she nailed it. Here is the video:

  24. Melissa Says:

    Melnikova’s music sounds like Alys

  25. H Says:

watching the juniors (Classic), some really great routines and great gymnasts

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Poor chiles can’t catch a break with her inconsistency, she was practically guaranteed the win if she did what she needed to do. At least she hit that amanar over anything though ..but the girls in the top three were impressive and even Morgan Hurd who never even goes to training camps looked great. Lots of talent coming up the next few years!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

There is so much talent in the junior field! I adore Morgan Hurd and the upgrades she pulled out today were fantastic. I know this is a long ways away and so random but I want her to win 2017 worlds 😉 I’m kind of over Chiles…I feel like she has been a major player at this level for such a long time that it’s going to be hard for her to stay relevant through 2020.

  26. Rocío Martínez López Says:

It’s official: Dasha is going to compete in UB final as Melnikova has been pulled out.

  27. dianajc99 Says:

bummer i think usag figured out that a lot of people would rather watch the international feed than listen to tim and nastia.so they blocked it this time.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

They always block it during the Olympic year because of the NBC copyright. And in the past, there wasn’t an international feed.

I guess I’ll have to listen to Nastia.

  28. H Says:

Is secret delayed by 30 min?

  29. Gymnast41 Says:

    Hundley- VT/UB/BB

AA= Navarro, Paulson, Raisman, Musselman, Tratuman, Ramler, Schild, DeGuzman, Baumann, Clapper, Gaskins, Gowey, Foberg, Frazier

Safe to say this meet will be about 10 seconds and aly will be winning lol

  30. Gymbee Says:

Anyone know how I can watch the Secret classic? I’m using internet via my work (US IP) and it lets me watch US Netflix etc. But for some reason Youtube sends me to the international feed despite this? Arrrgh.

    • H Says:

I think you need cable to watch the “abc” version. Drop the Us ip and watch the international feed on youtube?

      • H Says:

        meant nbc

      • Gymbee Says:

Didn’t they block the international feed? I could see the jr competition fine earlier… ah technology and how they foil us 🙂

      • Gymbee Says:

Duh. I see what you mean. It’s blocked for Americans but not for the rest of the world! Seems very unfair to americans. Watching it now 🙂 Thanks!!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I’m watching it on NBC live extra. My account is still signed in from the last time I watched something on here but I believe I was able to sign in using either my Optimum WiFi or Verizon Fios user name and password.

  31. dianajc99 Says:

i see metcalf at the banquet.maybe she is still on the team

  32. dianajc99 Says:

    finally it starts

  33. Gymbee Says:

Alyssa Baumann mistakes on bars and fall on dismount and her coach looks disgusted.

  34. tennisgrl456 Says:

15.85 for Ashton on bars…on 0.55 in deductions. What a joke.
Alyssa B completely choked on bars.

  35. Gymbee Says:

Aly falls on bars!!! 😦 And Marta looks dubious.

    • Gymbee Says:

She nails the dismount though. Mihai is such a supportive coach in competitions. No disgusted looks for him.

  36. tennisgrl456 Says:

No Aly!! She falls on her toe-on Shaposh

  37. Ilanchik20 Says:

Aly falls off bars, great. Ugh.

  38. Gymbee Says:

    Aly, 13.050

  39. Gymnast41 Says:

wtf is ashton’s score….are you serious? Only .55 in deductions? You have GOT to be kidding me. they’re setting up maddie k for failure lol

    my heart breaks for alyssa

jazmyn foberg fell on a wolf turn?

and finally..okay I just yelled at the screamed with aly falling. Are you kidding me.

    • Gymbee Says:

Same!! Why are they doing this to Kocian? And Aly breaks my heart!

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

How in the world did Regan get 14.9
On bars. These scores r crazy.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

Ragan’s score is way too high but relative to the rest of the scores it seems pretty fair.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am glad I am not watching this. You guys can fill me in on the over scores and I’ll watch tomorrow.

  40. Gymbee Says:

    15.7 for Kocian.

  41. Gymnast41 Says:

Ragan’s bars were actually quite good for her

  42. tennisgrl456 Says:

Ragan gets a 14.9. She definitely did herself a solid with that bar routine.

  43. Gymbee Says:

And Simone hops off bars too. Not a good night for bars!

  44. dianajc99 Says:

really nastia..u don’t know how it feels.take a look at your jr career

  45. utgymfan Says:

Is it just me or is Nastia looking especially skeletal?

  46. aerial Says:

Anyone else watching the international feed in silence??
Fine for muting nastia but I’d love to hear the floor music!!

    • aerial Says:

Should have posted that half an hour ago. As soon as I hit reply, it came blaring on. Though it’s still in and out minutes at a time.
I must admit it was hilarious hearing male baseball commentary being voiced over as Nastia spoke and gestured… it was almost believable.

  47. dianajc99 Says:

oh good god..lavandar and orange don’t belong together

  48. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Skinner’s Amanar looks great

  49. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Aly NAILED beam

  50. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Kocian’s off beam

  51. Gymnast41 Says:

kocian fell….off one of the easiest tumbling elements in her routine

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Even if Kocian wouldn’t have fallen, that beam is not TF. Too shaky.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If she goes it will be for bars. Beam will be covered.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

If Marta won’t use Kocian for anything but bars, I hope Locklear goes. Much prettier bars. And her beam is good enough for QF.

  52. Ilanchik20 Says:

Kocian falls off beam. Can’t be good for her.

  53. Gymnast41 Says:

this patterson ragan’s about to do scares me

  54. tennisgrl456 Says:

Locklear stayed on beam and got a 14.75. 14.75. ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME?!?!? .25 less than Aly?? Her scores have been the biggest jokes of the night.

  55. Gymbee Says:

Is that John Roethlisberger with the t-shirt gun? Why is he always in charge of the half time “show”? I use that word losely.

  56. aerial Says:

Locklear on beam??? I thought she was only doing bars.

  57. H Says:

High beam e-score for ash.. (she has upgraded, good for her) and I am voting for her for bars “beam” spot

  58. Exgymgurl Says:

Marta looked disgusted with Kocian, even Nastia sounded disgusted with her. This whole thing is set up for Ragan to win. Props to Ashton though over scored on beam for killing it upgrading and not falling

    • aerial Says:

The international feed isn’t showing Nastia etc. Is she throwing shade at everybody as per usual? She has a special talent at bringing the girls down, you can just tell she’s bitter and jealous.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Nastia been okay. She said that Simone is way better than she ever was. And then said she couldn’t do an Arabian on beam when Kocisn was doing one.

  59. Exgymgurl Says:

Also Brenna scratched bars and skinner scratched floor. But skinner killed her amanar, probably the best I’ve ever seen her do it. Jazzy is a hot mess!!!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Yep, Jazzy has been a mess. She was a long shot for an alternate spot but I think she can kiss that chance good bye.

I’ll be interested to see what Aly gets on her Amanar. Skinner only got a 15.4. If Aly has her usual form she shouldn’t get above a 15.1

  60. Gymnast41 Says:

aly’s floor was really good just OOB on the first pass, but I think she redeemed herself nicely

  61. aerial Says:

Hair alone – Ashton and MyKayla should be allowed nowhere near. They look like peacocks or something. I can’t take their lines seriously, even when someone like Ashton does better than expected.

  62. tennisgrl456 Says:

Gabby looked great on bars. I’m not a big fan of hers but I have to admit that the girl can hit when it counts.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She does hit bars when it counts but her beam is always a mess and the judges just ignore her missed connections and cheated jumps. her bars however she has become very consistent at.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

I have a feeling she’s not going to hit beam, and it’s going to to look exactly like it always is with a score nearing 15

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

True…but I definitely don’t find myself expecting her to screw up like I did in 2012.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        So Smith didn’t do floor?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You need to watch this again.lol This was not a great routine. She messed up the pak. missed handstands and had a horrible swing. I don’t know how this score was possible with what she did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQy89PqpAp8

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

I watched it again and by her standards, I still think it was a solid routine. I think her score was far too high but so were most of the bars scores tonight.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Bent arms by GD on handstands. Muscled. labored. Like either she’s lacking core strength or she’s incredibly dehydrated. I think she’s grown another half inch across this last year. She did great hanging on beam but lacked toe point extension and looked like she was phoning it in. Aly is a gamer, a nice person but a gamer. She’s telling those girls not to worry about falling for a reason, knowing that anyone who looked like a hot mess tonight just made the b squad. THe biggest thing Aly has to lose is an AA spot.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

Just to make it clear, I’m no GD fan. I’d LOVE for her to be left off this team but there is no way Steve Penny/Marta will let that happen. I don’t find her bars to be labored but they are definitely not on the same level as Simone/Madison/Ashton. Her beam showed that she can fight through a routine but some of her leaps are worse than London. That switch ring is an eye sore.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree Gabby is only usable on bars, and even then they are not world class and not as good as they were in London. She no longer “flies” on her release moves like she used to, and her skills appear labored. Her handstands are more paused. I don’t think she’s as in shape as she should be, but she’s in as much shape as she needs to be and that was her goal all along.

She’s only going to make this team for her name, and Aly will definitely be losing that AA spot. She can’t complete a solid AA competition anymore to save her life. And even in the last quad she never put 4 for 4 together in a final setting.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

15.65 on bars for GD. Really? Lol

I don’t like Maddie either but poor Maddie.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

WHAT?? I thought it was solid but not 15.65 solid.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

she got credit for a 6.6 start value

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hundley nailed her DTY and actually got over a 15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp7tOolEcVw

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Meals has no shot. NBC has been given the ones to watch and talk about list and she’s not on it

      • aerial Says:

Good for Meals. Would love if she performs at her very best for herself at the remainder of these competitions prior to NCAA. Classy kid and friggin’ determined gymnast. I’m impressed she’s lasted this long, despite everything, despite being a junior for 47 years, and especially with MLT. And she’s still smiling, still the nicest person you could meet.

  63. Gymnast41 Says:

gabby’s bars looked better than jesolo for sure, but 15.65? lol…simone looked quite jittery on beam though but nothing to be concerned about. loved how she felt for that stick though

  64. tennisgrl456 Says:

Alyssa doesn’t have a shot of making the actual team but I found her floor routine surprisingly enjoyable.

    • aerial Says:

Her physique plus hair reminds me of Shannon Miller circa 1995.

Currently listening to Nastia whisper about a stir stick on the floor.

    • H Says:

I agree, nice floor routine. I dont understand why though Alyssa gets so high e-score on beam?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

In the past I had no problem but this routine of hers was slow and lethargic and she moves her amrs around way too much in the connection department to ever get credit from real judges.

    • Mim Says:

I really enjoyed Alyssa’s floor too, but her music is terrible. Something classical would really suit her.

  65. Exgymgurl Says:

So Ragan is scratching floor, so it’s Aly, gooey or baumann, gooey on bars Aly and baumann vault, edge to Aly and gooey

  66. aerial Says:

    Gooey – LOL!

  67. Gymnast41 Says:

Did foberg scratch doing AA? and laurie’s bars looked great anyone know her SV? I wonder if she’ll score higher than Gabby

  68. aerial Says:

Trautwig has a hardon for Baumann – seriously!
Did you hear him making fun of Olivia Trautman’s last name?

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Best amanar I’ve ever seen Aly do. Since London and maybe even better than the two she did in London. Wow. And skinner has improved tremendously on beam.

  69. H Says:

    Good amanar from Aly!!

  70. tennisgrl456 Says:

Aly did the best Amanar that she has done in a long time but no way should it have scored .3 higher than Skinner.

  71. dianajc99 Says:

the gabby of 4 years ago would have fallen

  72. dianajc99 Says:

    did dowel not do bars

  73. tennisgrl456 Says:

Wtf is wrong with Al Trautwig? “We have to go bc Nastia needs a Hot Toddy, stat.”

  74. H Says:

I am happy Aly did so well on three events, and that she won. I think it is good for her confidence also that she still need to up the game with 4 for 4 in two weeks. And I hope M have a last card up his sleves regarding Aly’s beam d-score.

  75. Exgymgurl Says:

So it sounds like Aly is not getting a shot at AA finals if they don’t use her to qual bars for Rio. Rhonda talking to gabby after about her beam fall like she’s already national team coordinator. Ragan was disappointing, I don’t think she looks much better than pacrims. Kocian was disappointing also. Ashton just needs to do those two routines and improve a bit four more times. And Laurie having knee problems again is worrisome, she could bust through that replaced tendon at any time especially if it’s being caused by a twisting motion landing with consistently poor form. At the rate she’s going I don’t even give Laurie two years in NCAA. Curious why Nia wasn’t technically scored and also why bailie didn’t at least do something. Maggie is the wildcard going into championships trials, she doesn’t get this warmup meet. At this point I’m not sure I’d put Laurie on the team because of the nagging injury, death camps will blow that tendon anyway.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

they don’t need to peak now. I wasn’t as impressed with Laurie’s bars as everyone else she kept moving her hands on the low bar but at least she, Kucther and Kocian and Simone can swing the bars. Gabby literally just muscles her way through it and gets credit. I miss when swinging the bars well mattered. It clearly doesn’t any more.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

yeah uh, that convo with rhonda and gabby seemed like they were all buddy-buddy to me lol. Totally agree with all what you said, but ragan did impress me today at least on bars. I feel like laurie has that spot locked down as long as she doesn’t tear that knee up any more than she’s already have…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

There is no way they can put Rhonda in charge with the way she acts around these girls. I just can’t see her being in charge.

  76. aerial Says:

A really strong meet for “Gooey”. She didn’t get any 15.00s but very solid scores for her and no headcasing.

Get it together on beam Maddie!

Was Foberg really terrible? I only caught part of her floor. Those are some damn low scores.

Gabby in forest green doesn’t do it for me. Actually that’s true in every colour but especially forest green.

Marta sure spent a long time cupping Ragan Smith’s face and talking to her as she moved along that line of Kristen Maloneyish girls. This seems like Ragan’s time in terms of being oblivious to pressure and nerves. I do think she’d make a good alternate.

Those TD leos… Dallas skyline with Kim’s planche silhouette on the back… wow…

Aly was sweet, talking about it being “just a warm-up meet” to the others chalking up… probably mainly Foberg.

I wonder how hurt Laurie is. That bar routine was strong. She’s either really solidifying her spot with that one routine, or else hiding the fact she’s totally injured and isn’t ready for the extent to be known yet. Hopefully the former.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

During the broadcast, they said Laurie reinjured her knee but she was still practicing all events.

I still think she is more injured than they’ve letting on or she would have done beam, at least.

Aly looks super mature and confident on beam–no way Marta will leave her at home.

Regan seems unaffected by the crowd and Marta loves that so depending how Laurie and Maggie look at Nationals, she may make it over them.

      • KG Says:

I agree they won’t leave aly at home, but I feel like her chances at AA are slipping 😦

      • Tortuga Says:

Sounds like even Aly is okay with not doing AA since in her interview she said she knows if she goes to Rio it’s not for bars. And Tim said on air he doesn’t think she will even do bars in qualifications. Sounds like Martha is already telling people she won’t be doing AA. But she’s definitely a rock on all other events if she can just keep her mental game straight.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Well, best for Marta at this time to not play mind games on Aly. Aly should know it’s not in the cards for her to do the AA and that because Biles is a lock for it, Gabby will be given that shot due to the “story” behind it.

Aly will be taken for her floor and beam and now it looks like if she can get that amanar back, she’ll compete on team finals for vault too.

It sounds like the other potential AA’ers that “could” beat Gabby are too injured to. Maybe Ragan can still do it, but Gabby gets such inflated scores.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If Aly isn’t going to be used for bars that means a specialist will be there to compliment her.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I agree. Marta is taking a bars specialist. They won’t have as much of lead after vault as they did in London so they’ll need more points on bars.

Based on how Marta’s judges been scoring Ashton’s bars, I say Marta wants to take her over Kocian because Kocian is always one landing away from getting hurt.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree it’s likely Marta will focus on gaining points in bars over vault this go round. Ashton has proven too that she can hit when it counts, right? Wasn’t she on the world team in…2014? She’s also injury prone but not as bad it seems as Kocian, and if she can pull off a mediocre beam set but beat Kocian at bars, that spot will be hers.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Yes, she was on the 2014 team and got 4th in EF, with a much tougher competition then. She even beat Aliya.

Kocian looses much more on her form than Locklear so I hope Marta takes her.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Foberg had a fall and a BIG slide OOB on floor. I think she got a 12.9? She also fell on beam.

I definitely think Laurie is more injured than they are letting on. I would think she’s at least do beam in addition to bars. I wouldn’t rule Ragan or Maggie out yet. If Maggie is back doing the AA at nationals and is fairly even with Laurie, I would go with her simply bc of experience. And if Ragan has upped her game on floor and can get her Patterson dismount consistent I would say that she’d be in over Maggie/Laurie.

Aly definitely proved that she deserves to be on this team. I really wish that GD wasn’t the defending AA champ bc her performance level alone would NOT be enough (at this point) to make her the virtual lock that she is. She’s average on every event and there is no way that they are going to leave her home.

    • G Says:

Yeah Alys pep talk as really cute. It seemed like she was reassuring the others as well as herself lol. She’ll make a good team captain again

  77. Exgymgurl Says:

And where was Sydney Johnson scharpf?

  78. Mim Says:

So what did Kim end up doing with Bailie? Bailie was doing full routines at podium training, wasn’t she?

    • dianajc99 Says:

? only her bars PT is listed

      • Mim Says:

I have no idea! I wasn’t able to watch PT but I thought I read that somewhere (I could be totally making that up..). Can Bailie compete at P&Gs?

      • dianajc99 Says:

i’m pretty sure marta approved her for p&g’s

        whats the story with flatley?

      • Gym obsessed Says:

Bailey already qualified automatically to p&g as the non traveling alternate from last year’s worlds. But if she really wants to make the Olympics I think she should have competed something.

  79. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Got late for the event finals. In vault, Giulia won with 14.983, followed by Ellie Downie with 14.933 and Afan with 14.699. In UB, Downie was first with a D score of 6.9 for a 15.500, followed by Dasha (15.466) and Musty (15.100). I think she was a little overscored in execution, where Dasha was flawless, but she is a very serious contender in the Olympic event finals. Between her, the russians and the chinese, it is going to be a very interesting final.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Daria is not a favored Russian so she gets no extra tenths for being World Champ. So frustrating as a fan to see the judges extra tenth the favorites when someone who is not considered a favorite literally gets low balled in favor of , well I don’t know what to call the sisters but they are clumpy. If Aliya had Daria’s start value in that final she would have won.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I know what you say, GTT. In this case, more than Dasha being scored unfairly, I think that Downie was not deducted enough, because her routine was very difficult and powerful, but she had several misgivings that have been overlooked, in my opinion. And the difference in difficulty (0.2 plus for Downie) did the rest. But it is debatable in this case and not as clamorous as the World UB finals last year. That was an effing joke.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Just saw men’s results. He is top 3 on only one event (3rd on high bar) and 10th AA. Can’t be good for him.

  80. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Beam final: Mustafina was great and connected almost everything, with only minor balance checks for a 15.100. If she polish up those checks, her score in Rio could be even higher. Cata had a surprising 14.266 for a third place with a good enough routine. She had some balance checks, but I thought it was a score too low for her standards, but someone on Twitter told me that she was penalized because of the time of ther routine was way too long, so it makes sense. In second place, surprisingly, Marine Boyer, with a meritorius 14.600. I would have loved for Ilaria Kaeslin to have a medal, but I hope she has long years before her to achieve it. Fourth place for her.

  81. Rocío Martínez López Says:

15.200 for Giulia on floor finals. She is on fire. Taking into account that Afan had 15.100 for silver and Maggie 15.000 for bronze in last year’s championships, she can be a threat.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She won’t be a threat because no matter how well she does they never seem to score her positively like they do gymnasts like Aliya. Aliya gets more benefit from average routines then I have seen since the Moceanu era.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

All of us know about gifts, but Giulia is being rock solid and had a very difficult routine. Even if the judges go for her throat at floor finals, I think she is a contender. Not a threat for Simone because I can’t think of anybody right now that can achieve her scores, but yes for bronze or even silver. The Russians doesn’t seem to be very good at floor this quad (they couldn’t classify for European finals, for God’s sake), the Brits tend to choke at worst moments and the chinese usually don’t have powerful floor workers with high D scores, so yes, I think in this ocassion, if Giulia don’t choke, she can be a contender. And the judges seems to be giving her more space this year. She got better scores than Cata and they always overscore Cata.

  82. Rocío Martínez López Says:

End of floor final. Gold for Giulia. Silver for Downie and bronze for Cata, who need to polish that helicopter legs because they made Aliya’s look pretty, but who seems ready to go to Rio otherwise.

  83. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Reproduction list of the Europeans UB final. Hats off for Kim Bui, who was coming from an injury and did more than a respectable job.

  84. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Reproduction list of the vault final:

  85. Gymnast41 Says:

What exactly qualifies Nastia to commentate men’s gymnastics..? I swear the only thing she’s saying is “yeah just like you said Tim that’s was great” and “this event for the women..” She definitely sounds worse today, guess she didn’t get that “hotty toddy” Al told her to get

  86. Rocío Martínez López Says:

News from Japanese Nationals. Preselected for Rio are Asuka Teramoto, Mai Mukarami, Aiko Sugihara, Sae Miyakawa, Natsumi Sasada, Yuki Uchiyama and Marina Kawasaki. The Spanish blog dobleenplancha says that Mai Mukarami has a 6.7 floor exercise for Rio.

  87. Exgymgurl Says:

I think there are a few scenarios for the women’s team, (assuming Aly, gabby and Simone are locked) dependent on Maggie and Lauries health. IF neither of them recover in time I could see a team where Simone does bars in TF and Ashton or Kocian go along with skinner for the third vault and floor. We know that regardless of a bars deficit Marta loves her vaulters and without Maggie’s amanar skinner could step up. With that knee injury I don’t think Maggie will get her amanar back, and with Lauries knee same issue. We all know Marta wants three amanars in TF. I really want to see them all do everything at championships. My guess is Maggie will only do bars / beam and Laurie as well. We can’t bring an injured Laurie or Maggie just for bars. We don’t have the depth of amanars like we did in 2012. Simone’s bars actually look decent, and putting her, gabby, and Ashton / Kocian in team finals may happen regardless. Vault with Aly, skinner, Biles is stronger than having gabby vault team finals. beam with Biles raisman and then Kocian / locklear, gabby or skinner as the third is also not a bad scenario. IN an emergency Aly could cover bars, and everyone could cover beam. Floor then you have Aly gabby Biles and skinner again four solid routines. It’s going to come down to IMHO

    1. What Marta wants on vault and who can do it
    2. Consistency on beam
    3. Best scenario on bars for TF.

I don’t think Marta wants another Maloney that is a one event gymnast, or anyone who is injured and can’t perform consistently.

I also don’t think Marta wants to sacrifice our vault edge for bars that score above Aly’s, esp when one score is dropped in quals. skinners amanar at a 15.

Skinner gives us 2-3 tents on vault that I don’t think Maggie can make up on floor / bars / beam. Maggie’s scores at scam were decent but not spectacular. IDK I guess we will see who NBC focuses on at PG

    • dianajc99 Says:

i think I would be ok if both kocian and ashton are left home.
I’d be thrilled if gabby was too but barring injury thats not going to happen.
      i’m waiting to see key

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I want Key to surprise us but it doesn’t look good.

If Aly, Simone, and Gabby are locks the real vacancy to worry about is bars (if Simone “needs” rest) and potentially floor/beam. Who can fill in on floor/beam – ? Ragan seems to fit that bill. So a likely team would be the three locks plus Ragan and a bars specialist. That way, Biles rests on bars, Aly is not used for bars, and Gabby is only really used on bars and maybe on beam if an injury happens.

Vault is less of a start value but this team gives us two amanars (Aly, Simone) and one solid DTY (Gabby).

However, if Marta is looking to take 3 amanars and Maggie doesn’t have hers, then Skinner could fill in (for Ragan’s spot in my first scenario) but honestly Skinner is not usable on floor…at least, I wouldn’t want to take that risk in the Olympics. She’d only go for vault (with Aly and Biles) and Biles would have to do bars in team finals.

    • Tortuga Says:

Do we really need 3 Amanars when Gabby’s dty scores almost as good as one? Preferably Maggie would have the Amanar back but seems like I need to mentally prepare that she is probably no longer in contention. My team scenarios with Simone, Gabby and Aly as locks are:

      My Ideal team:
      1.Simone (vt, beam, floor)
      2. Gabby (bars, beam)
      3. Aly (vt,beam, floor)
      4. Maggie (vt w/ Amanar,bars,floor)
      5. Kocian (bars & basically an on team alternate that could fill in anywhere if necessary)

If Maggie isn’t all back my next choices are Laurie then Ragan. And if Kocian’s body gives out then I go with Ashton I prefer her form but she only has beam as back up. Skinner has high start values and an Amanar however her bars are not useable and we have too many others that score higher or floor and beam.

I’d also love Bailey to surprise us but it doesn’t seem likely now.

      • Tortuga Says:

I’d also be alright with no bars specialist and taking reagan or laurie instead but I don’t see Martha leaving without a bars worker.
