Podium Training

Girl is not in good shape but looking like her usual self in Podium Training. Should be interesting to see what she does when it matters. Just how long was she out of training before we found out?

Russia looks like crap.

  1. sanitynmotion Says:

Musty definitely not in shape and even looks pissed for likely being forced to be there.

The Pepto pink leo doesn’t help.

    • dianajc99 Says:

France looks good. Like team finals Rio good.

      • H Says:

Anyone know what Musty’s beam d-score would be based on this PT video (if she connects everything). 6.1? or?

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

France is a good candidate for bronze.Italy, Germany and Belgium aren’t bringing their best to the Europeans, so it could be their year.

      • gymbot Says:

        Hi H

She would get 6.4 for connecting everything.

        double turn (D), leap series+side somi (A+A+D, CV 0.1), 1/2 switch leap+onodi+side aerial (D+D+D, CV 0.3), front aerial+front aerial+bhs (D+D+B, CV 0.1, SB 0.1), switch ring leap (E), and double tuck dismount (D).

E(1)+D(7) = 2.3. Assuming she hits all of her comps (she has three salto combinations, but could miss all of them) she would have a minimum score of 5.8. Her combinations could net her up to 0.6 points.

      • H Says:

Thank you so much gymbot! What would I have done without you:-)

    • gymbot Says:

She always looks like crap in podium training, and usually hits, but beam could go either way for her even when she’s her best. She missed in finals in 2011, was shaky at the Olympics, missed her salto connection in 2014 and was wobbly last year at 2015’s Euro Games in Baku. However, she normally stays on, which is more than can be said than most of the other seniors.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Yeah, you are right. She can miss the connection or win an unexpected gold in event finals like in Antwerp (I didn’t see that coming). So, I never rule out Musty. Never.

  2. byrdisthewyrd Says:

Afan has already pulled out of Euros. Was she injured again or she just never bounced back from an old injury? Do you think at this rate that Aliya and Afan will be ready for Rio? It seems like Rodionenko’s early statements of Aliya, Afan, Paseka and Komova as locks for the team needs to be re-evaluated. What happened to Paseka anyway? I thought she was going to Euros too.

  3. dianajc99 Says:

The next made in America is up. It’s Nastia.. who strangely dosent come off as too much of a bitch in this one.

  4. Tortuga Says:

Musty looks sluggish, but she usually does in podium.

So the Classic is only streaming on NBC Live Extra? Which you have to have a cable subscription to log in and use. Anyone know a work around? Sounds like USAG won’t have their own stream without commentary. I refuse to pay $100+ a month for cable when I barely watch it.

    • gymbot Says:

I think they are posting the broadcast after

    • Gymnast41 Says:

It’ll be on tv around 9:30 from the looks of the schedule…but it sucks that in an Olympic year they’re doing this. I literally have no way of watching classics now

    • Tortuga Says:

Thanks for the info. I’ll be at a bar watching my boyfriend’s band play so if it is on tv at 9:30 I could watch. It’s not ideal but will have to work till they put it on YouTube. Really annoys me they’re pulling this in the Olympic year. I’m worrying nationals will be the same way. Luckily we now there’s no way they can get away with not airing trials and the Olympics. Still I was hoping for USAG’s live stream to help out since I don’t have cable and have to find other places to watch.

  5. Rocío Martínez López Says:

At the end, Afan is only doing vault and Musty isn’t going for the AA, as she is not listed for vault. Afan is doing vault instead of her. Kind of understand it; if she is not ready to do everything, is normal she leaves out the most problematic event for her. But what is going on with Afan? If she is too injuried to do floor, why risk her on vault in an Olympic year? Why don’t they call a replacement?

  6. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    European Junior Team Champions: 1.Russia. 2.GB. 3.Romania.

    • gymbot Says:

Not surprised. Thanks for posting Rocio. BTW, do you have a way to watch Euros? Will it be on UEG?

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Romania’s juniors impressed me today! They’re fighters, and have a ton of potential. It’s just too bad about their possible futures in the sport 😦

  7. gymbot Says:

Spiridonova, Mustafina, and the Downies should have some competition on bars:

    • Melanie Says:

Here’s another good routine. I don’t know what the d-score is, but it looks competitive.

      • gymbot Says:

It could be 6.7. Is she a senior? Where did France hide her? Some of the skills are hard for me to distinguish at this angle, but it looked like inbar1/1+komovaII+ricna (E+E+E, 0.3 CV), inbar+inbar reverse hecht (D+E), toe-on+bail+inbar 1/2+endo1/2+ray (C+D+D+D+C, CV 0.2), toe-on 1/1+chusovitina (D+D, CV 0.1).

      • Melanie Says:

Yep, she’s senior. I don’t know where she came from all of a sudden!

    • Bess Says:

I loved the routine but I have one small bone- the simplest “skill” of the whole routine drove me crazy- the fricken kip cast handstand…is it just me or was she not hitting the handstand, tuck the booty in or something

      • Gymbot Says:

Well bess the judges must have seen that error too, and she didn’t put other parts of it together. I think she scored 11 or 12

  8. Lithi Says:

Crikey, can’t Musty and the rest of the Russian veterans rest for one competition?

Also, Shawn did a speech about her experiences. I could only get to 8 minutes (when she talked about the vault–“the runway is 70 feet long with a thing at the end”–paraphrased I shut it off.) Some at WWGym watched and apparently:

–she was “guaranteed” a spot on the London team
–she was expected to bring home five gold medals in Beijing.

Watch at your own risk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UUgPeF8VdI#t=429

    • harts Says:

What was the 5th supposed to be? She didn’t do two vaults did she? And her winning bars is laughable (don’t get me wrong…I love Shawn, but her bars weren’t even event finals worthy!)

      • Guest Says:

It is only expectations from the media. Maybe it is because she won 4 gold 1 silver in Pan Am 2007. We should know the media is always unprofessional. I believe Shawn never thought she can win 5 medals in Olympic.

      • Lithi Says:

Your guess is as good as mine.

  9. Rocío Martínez López Says:

I couldn’t find a way to watch today’s prelims, but there are some videos already out. Musty beam look way better today and she seems to be in this apparatus’ events finals: https://twitter.com/theallaround/status/738443719389642752

  10. Rocío Martínez López Says:

GB in first place ahead of Russia in team qualifications. GB got 173.363 and Russia got 173.261. Switzerland is in third with 166.128 and Romania is in fourth place with 164.870. Seda fell on beam again. Here you can see all the qualifiers: http://www.ueg.org/en/Great-Britain-holds-off-Russia,-Switzerland-in-third-place-2016-06-02-2100

  11. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Afan is doing vault finals apparently and in third place after Giulia and Ellie Downie (with a respectable 14.753, I must add).

  12. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Musty and Melnikova advanced to bars finals. I don’t know what happened to Dasha. Aliya and Melnikova had the first places on beam final, with Cata on third and no Russians on floor final so, given that the last qualifier was Gaelle Mys with a 13.800, something horrible must have happened with them on FX.

  13. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    Cata’s beam: https://twitter.com/UEGymnastics/status/738426954538442753

  14. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Here is Dasha on bars. Her routine seems fine to me, except for a little standstill at the end, but she won’t advance to finals because of the two per country rule. Musty and Melnikova scored higher:

Daria SPIRIDONOVA (RUS) – 2016 European Championships – Qualifications Uneven Bars: https://t.co/6CuijaGTZ8 via @YouTube— UEG (@UEGymnastics) 2 de junio de 2016

    //platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Daria only had a 6.3 start value. They always lower her start value in prelims for some stupid reason.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I don’t understand why. They took her to the Europeans only for her bars. She didn’t do any other apparatus. She used to have a much higher star value before (6.7 maybe?) so if she only had a 6.3 because some silly reason is to smack them.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They lowered her start value at worlds last year too. Maybe they figure consistent vs big routine for finals. Or maybe they don’t like her.

      • Gymbot Says:

Well if she lowered her sv for the team it makes sense, she struggled on her bigger routine at Russian champs.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I don’t know if that is the reason, Gymbot. Prelims is always a good moment to try out a routine in competition. If she were to fail, the problems won’t be as important as in team finals, she would have the chance to classify to event finals and she can practice it in actual competition, because she will required to try out the harder one in team finals anyway, because GB is way too close for confort and they need to compensate for floor. Dasha usually is very consistent and even when you are right and she struggled in Russian Championship AA, but hit it in the team competition for Moscow and I think she did well in the event finals too. So I don’t think it is normal for her to lower her difficulty in qualifications when they have taken her to the Euros only for her high difficulty bars with a routine she can hit consistently when she probably will have to present it on Saturday anyway.

      • Gymbot Says:

All true. Sounds like from people who saw her training at euros, she was saw hitting her high difficulty sets effortlessly. Maybe she banked on getting into the final over melnikova’s handstand deductions with an easier routine but overestimated the judges abilities to distinguish routines

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

It sounds to me that Melnikova is the new star of the Russian team and Valentina wanted her in as many finals as possible, so Dasha got bumped out in her favour.

      • gymbot Says:

you think she was told to downgrade?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes I do and I think she was told to downgrade last year at world’s and I se to rewbwr one other competition. I don’t think there is a hidden agenda she just wants to hit and this year it back fired plus I only war hed the routime once but I seem to remember a mistake towards the end. If this was really all about keeping her down they would have left her at home. I think maybe Komova is more hurt then we are being told and they think they might need her bars.

      • gymbot Says:

Yeah I’m thinking Komova is really out. Everyone is still injured, even Spiridonova could be injured.

  15. Rocío Martínez López Says:

UEG have a lot of videos. I am trying to see what the hell happened on floor. If you want to see someone’s routine especifically, tell me and I’ll try to look it up. The Spanish Gymnastics’ twitter channel have a lot of videos too. 🙂

  16. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Ok, Russia’s floor results: Musty 13.533 (watered down routine, with an oob). Seda 13.766 and Melnikova 13.533. Russia needs to do something with their floors ASAP. There are low score to fight for the podium in the Olympics.

  17. dianajc99 Says:

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Thanks for the video! She needs a lot of polishing to do, but her body is holding up, so it is good news. It she remains healthy, I think she can easily achieve a good score for the Olympics, specially given how much Russia is struggling on FX.

  18. dianajc99 Says:

I don’t think you needed 2 vaults to final?

  19. Guest Says:

Shawn released her recent YouTube video for Jojo’s party. Here is facetiming with Aly. (at 5:50) 🙂

  20. Exgymgurl Says:

I’m sorry I’m so impressed with cata I hope she gets the spot, I think by Rio she will be even better and more deserving. And Larissa has been out for so long. Sigh.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She looks better and better each time we see her but she still doesn’t deserve this spot. If she gets it over Larisa for even one event I hope Larisa retires and Romania can turn to shit when only interested in the Olympics Ponor retires again.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

I agree. Lari has definitely proved herself worthy the past 4 years. I honestly think if she comes back and isn’t even 100%, yet can pull decent routines, she still deserves that spot. Proud of cata and was impressed with what she did today, but I will never believe she deserves it over larisa as much as she deserves to go to rio as well..

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I rather Larissa to go too and she deserves it, but I don’t know if that is an option anymore. Has someone more updates in her recovery? It is just two months until the Olympics and, if she is still not training, she probably isn’t a realistic option anymore and Cata is the only one who has chances of going. I like Cata, she is an effing legend, but Larissa has been the start of this quad and deserves to go. I just think that she isn’t physically capable of pulling it off if she is not training at her full capacity yet.

    • exgymgurl Says:

well if this is her progress after three weeks I think she should go, I mean, I can honestly say in three weeks I could probably learn that. And no there isn’t any weight on her wrist. So why wasn’t she doing that during recovery…. Oh yeah it was her BF birthday….

      • sanitynmotion Says:

If it was just her wrist she could have still done leg training – like tumbling (without the wrist) using a bungie chord to keep her up if she fell. Then again what do I know.

This just looks like dancing on the beam; I mean it’s pretty but it’s not going to necessarily make her a shoo-in for the Olympics.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

This is why I don’t think she’s going. Larissa doesn’t have time, and I think there are more injuries they aren’t mentioning. It is just dancing on the beam.

  21. dianajc99 Says:

Is it just me or does the light make this leo look like stripper wear?

  22. Gymnast41 Says:

They started posting training vids on facebook, for some reason I feel like Kocian’s form got worse, there’s going to be a sharp contrast between her and locklear for sure

  23. Brainy Says:

Is it me or do Mustafina and Spiro perform the same routine in UB TQ? And how the hell did Melnikova outscore Spiro?

    • Gymbot Says:

It’s absurd that melnikova and spiridinova had the same e score for sure. Mustafina and spiridinova had the same routine except for spiridinova did not connect the pak to the van Leeuen* which is the two tenths difference in d

  24. Gymnast41 Says:

Apparently a rumor going around is that Simone and gabby are just doing bars and beam, Laurie bars, and aly is doing AA? Someone mentioned that a reporter said that on tumblr but hearing no confirmed sources

    • sanitynmotion Says:

That has to be a rumor. Simone has the best vault and floor in the world.
Someone doesn’t know what they are talking about.
I can see Gabby just doing bars…I’d be scared to use her for beam, but as long as she stays on we all know she gets inflated scores there.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Laurie not doing AA at Classics and Aly having to do it for whatever reason is just bull shit to me. Aly beat Laurie during the last AA. More special treatment for Marta’s favorite gymnasts. Good thing Aly is a work horse.

    • Tortuga Says:

Honestly I think it’s a good idea for Simone to not do AA at Classics, she has nothing to prove and needs to save her body. Aly could use another good AA under her belt, and it will be nice to see a different podium but def sounds like all the other favs are out or not doing AA. Won’t be as exciting. Heck Maddie will probably be on the podium now. Bailie could be on the podium! I heard she’s not on the start list right now, but watch them put her in last minute now.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh geez. I thought this was for Rio, not Classics.

Never mind my comment. I just want Rio to happen I guess. We pretty much know who’s on the team!

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Marta said in an interview that basically those doing more events are those who needs to prove themselves a bit more whereas those doing a couple of events should be using it as a warm-up. So yeah, it was confirmed that Simone and gabby are only doing bars and beam. Both Simone and gabby said that there was no need for them to compete AA, but aly felt like she needs to. Fingers crossed for aly this weekend!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

So Gabby doesn’t have to prove herself on floor ? I love the logic of Marta

      • Tortuga Says:

Makes perfect sense to me. Wish Bailie was ready for AA right now so she could have a good showing. Ready for Nationals where hopefully everyone is fully back.

      • gymbot Says:

Key’s bars look really good to me, hopefully she hits and the score she receives is justly, appropriate

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I have no problem with Simone sitting out til Olympic Trials.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

And she trained floor too if you listen in on the background, it just makes no sense for someone like her to not compete AA. Now gabby’s beam looked a hot mess today as usual, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Marta said she needs to concentrate on it more

      • H Says:

where did you see/find Gabby’s beam?

      • Gymnast41 Says:

NBC Olympics snapchat shows her falling and inside gym has the full routine and cuts out and skips the fall

      • H Says:

        Thanks G41.
I t seems like Aly has restructured her beam again which might include a downgrade (?) but her layout looks slightly better, maybe she will get it approved ( by Rio …)

        Give her a wolf turn;-)

      • gymbot Says:

No downgrades, 6.5 if she gets credit for everything. Looks like the connections could be easier for her. Might have added the back tuck, can’t remember

      • H Says:

She have moved the back tuck from the split change leap to etc

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Lauries more injured than they are letting on.

  25. Guest Says:

People Magazine interviewed Shawn about her newlywed life. She talked coach Chow a bit in the last paragraph.

Elena Eremina from Russia, new AA Junior Champion.

  27. gymbot Says:

Laurie Hernandez has new floor music, same routine. Baumann has a new routine with three passes and a lot of spins, Russian and Dutch-esque.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

We all know I am not watching that.lol

      • Ss Says:

tSL posted an interview with Mary Lee Tracy. I found it to be really interesting. Listening to her talk about what happened with Morgan White was awful. She talks about being terrified to tell the Karolyis about the injury, and how they then cut up all her credentials in front of them (the ioc not the Karolyis, lol). She also talks about Ashley Preiss just quitting right before the Olympics…I highly recommend it!

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Still laughing at the title lol. I wanna know who of what authority told this girl she’s going to the olympics though

  29. Rocío Martínez López Says:

My Internet connection hated me yesterday, so it didn’t think it posted my comment about how I think Dasha was screwed, but anyway, I’ll try to post the scores from the Europeans if someone is interested. The finals begin at 17.00 (Spanish hour) so if everything works, I will be watching it! 🙂
