Oh Ebee Price, This is why I love you

Great article on Elizabeth Price. My favorite part,

“They were very surprised,” she said. “They knew I was thinking about going to college and not deferring. They definitely wanted me to stay and try for another year. They were probably a little disappointed. In the end, it was my decision, and there was nothing they could do about it.”

I saw Ebee at 2012 Trials. She seemed lovely. I would have loved to see her at the Olympics and I thought that she could contribute more to the team than Maroney, even if Maroney’s vault was amazing.

By the way, Jurca is out of the Preolympic as well. Romania more and more screwed as the days pass. The damned Preolympic can’t come soon enough.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Jurca’s hurt too. oh lovely. Does that mean Iridon is now on the team?

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Ocolisan and Jurca didn’t compete in the meeting with Belgium and Germany, and then they disclosed that both suffered ankle injuries. Jurca isn’t going to the Preolimpics and Ocolisan is going but nobody is sure about her injury. The team is composed by Cata, Iridon, Ocolisan, Silvia Zarzu, Dora Vulcan, Diana Bulimar and Maria Holbura instead of Jurca. And we don’t know if Cata has a vault, because she wasn’t training one since her injury last year, but the newest girls only have FTY and they need the scores badly. I remember that Cata had a nice DTY, So taking into account that Jurca and Iordache are out, we are not sure how many apparatuses Ocolisan can safely do and that several girls have scores in UB only close to 13 in a good day, I don’t think they are going to get one of the three spots remaining for Rio. (Because Brasil is going to classify if they don’t have a horrible competition. They are pretty solid and we all know that to be at home unofficially gives points).

    • sanitynmotion Says:

It probably kills her that if the US stuck with the former “rules” on how the Olympic team was formed, she would have easily been on it. She got knocked out due to Marta rules.

Maroney’s vault was world-class but even her scores weren’t high enough to justify taking her just for her vault. I still think ASac would have won a gold had she gone instead of Maroney, but at the end of the day I’m glad Maroney was there. She seemed to fit in with that team much better in general.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I liked Maroney and I saw her floor at 2011’s world championships after ASac injury and I enjoyed it. But I thought that it was a little risky to take a one event gymnast to the Olympics, because I didn’t see her stick her UB and floor routine in 2012 (I don’t remember if she used to do beam, sorry). When I heard that Jordyn was injuried, I thought that Ebee could have taken her place in some events in a way that Maroney could not and was much more reliable than GD. But everything was alright at the end, so it doesn’t matter now. I just felt sorry for Ebee. I thought she really deserved the spot.

      • Case Says:

Maroney brought more to the table in 2012 than just a great vault. She was an instrumental in holding the team together from a chemistry perspective, particularly after the outcome of individual qualifications. Her role was bigger than just the vault. (And this is coming from someone who likes Maroney but doesn’t love her.)

      • gymtruthteller Says:

None of the girls seemed to support Jordyn after the qualifications it was Beth Tweddle who went up and hugged her. I saw a bunch of girls involved in their own thing. Then there was the rumors about Aly not being happy people thought she “stole” Jordyn’s AA spot.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think there was a lot more internal strife than anyone realized. I bet the girls just honestly felt too awkward about everything to really “act” on their emotions. I mean what do you do? Plus these kids are seriously super young and have undergone a huge pressure shock.

You hug Aly in congrats, it might throw Jordyn off. You hug Jordyn like “I’m sorry,” you make Aly think that she wasn’t worthy of it. Us thinking adults would have offered support to both, and condolences to Jordyn, and then made it out to be the stupid 2 per country rule because that’s what it was at the end of the day that took Jordyn out. That and judges who were hell bent on getting Gabby into the AA finals.

The underlying problem was that Aly qualified first, I believe – ahead of GD. It was GD that “took” Jordyn’s spot. But because everyone assumed GD and Jordyn would be the 2 AA contenders (based on Trials and nationals), it was made out to be that Aly took that second spot. But she didn’t.

What makes the whole thing sucky is that I still honestly believe Jordyn should have qualified over Gabby, even with the beam connections issue. Her vault and floor were way better, and Gabby really messed up on floor and should have been deducted for her missed beam connections (she wasn’t; in fact she qualified as one of the top people on beam, which made no sense).

Aly happened to have a great meet and the judges really wanted Gabby in the AA. That’s basically the gist. Jordyn was the odd man out. But at the end of the day Maroney wasn’t helping that situation, I agree. It was just all around awkward since the girls are “best friends” but they are also competing against each other for their life-long dream. I can only imagine how hard all that would be.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

In the end, she knew she would just continue to be screwed, so why continue the abuse for their own benefit.

The funny thing is Ebee’s strengths would have been perfect compliments to what is shaping up to be the Rio team – her bars would execute a solid score and Simone could be rested / Aly not used. Also, her amanar would facilitate 3 US amanars (which is what Marta would want in a best-case scenario situation). Plus, she’s a good technical AA’er so she could be used on the other 2 events if need be.

Skinner also has an amanar, but her other events are basically useless.

Maggie’s amanar is highly doubtful, and Maggie (like Ebee) will be good to use on bars but I believe her injury is going to prohibit her from competing the amanar at Trials/Rio.

The bars “specialists” aren’t really special enough to win medals (I still think Kocian’s gold was a fluke) and yet they can’t really contribute on anything else – that’s the real issue.

At the end of the day though IMO Ebee’s stock is higher than Memmel’s when it comes to taking charge of how to end your career on your own terms.

  3. Aerial Says:

She was “the top gymnast in the world”? When journalists do a brief scan of results and write this stuff, it kills me.

I have a lot of respect for Ebee, but I love Maroney and she had more events going for her before injury. Ebee’s feet and tad of beastliness (a la Raisman) bugged me. I still liked her, as I do Raisman, but did not consider her a better or more appealing gymnast than Maroney at the time.

I love her as an NCAA athlete and hope she brings home tons of accolades though!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I am pretty sure that was the year she was ranked first in the world cup standings because she won a few events over seas so technically she was the number 1 ranked gymnast in the world.

  4. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Spain released a promotional video of it gymnastic team. Roxy is in it, as it was filmed before her injury. It has an important focus on rhytmic gymnastic (we rock at that discipline), but I think it is cool:

  5. Cupquaked Says:

Can I just say I’m thankful for Angelina Melnikova? Her AA score from the Russian Championships was just .098 less than Gabby’s American cup score, 1.367 more than her Nationals AA score, and .751 more than her World’s AA. Her AA from her junior comps was around 57.5-58.3+. If they both go to Rio and Gabby (godforbid) makes the AA, she’ll be hardpressed for silver.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Nationals scores are always generous in Russia. Not as bad as in the US but close.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Let’s see how she does at the Europeans. She is already appointed to the team and I don’t know who the fifth member would be. They are probably waiting for Komova, but they need another AA gymnast because they are just taking Melnikova for the AA. Aliya is (most probably…you never know with Aliya) is just doing bars/beam, Paseka don’t have a beam, Afan used to have UB but I haven’t seen her doing that in a long time and I don’t know Komova’s state and if she has a floor or not (last worlds, she didn’t have one). So they can’t take just one AA gymnast to a meeting like this. Also, they usually take to the Europeans the final team they send to the Olympics to test it out, so image if Russia go to Rio with just one potential AA finalist! I would take Afan or Komova out of the picture (like them, even if Afan last floor routine was weird as hell, but they are very fragile right now) and take Seda (and pray) or one of the new juniors.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It will pretty much be last woman standing by the time the Olympics happen.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

The trailer makes me dislike her family more…living it up in CA w/decked out kitchen while Gabby is in some other state training and supporting them. They aren’t doing anything in CA that necessitates them being there (the brother goes to a junior college for crying out loud); we all know they were originally from Virginia Beach. If they were such a close family and loved Gabby so much, why wouldn’t they be where she’s at and live their lives in Michigan or wherever she’s training? Nope, they want to live it up in CA off of her dime. Such moochers.
Gabby will be lucky to see any of the money she “made” by the time she reaches her 40s…

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

      We can’t forget Iordache either.🙂

  6. Gymnast41 Says:

This trailer for gabby’s little reality show bothers me on so many levels it’s hard to even explain. Speechless that this is a legit thing

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Why do you think I won’t be watching a second of it? Contour to popular belief I don’t hate Gabby but this is a train wreck I prefer to forget exists. It won’t be reported on this blog so you people will have to enjoy it in the comment section. lol I have no patience for this. Thank God it’s on Oprah, no longer relevant ‘s network and I have no clue where that channel is on my cable.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

This is everything I heard it was. THere are only 4-5 ep in the can. There is zero production value. gabby produced this herself. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz Z

      • gymtruthteller Says:

4 episodes they filmed last year. Not sure how it’s even relevant amymore.

    • Cupquaked Says:

It was so scripted and awful. Clearly this is going to be as cheesy and annoying as the lifetime movie. I don’t understand how she has the time to seriously train AND film a reality show at the same time. I teach 40+ hours a week and I’m exhausted by the end of the day. I can’t imagine what she must feel like if she really is training full time (highly doubt it at this point).

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I think she only really trains full-time before big meets. Unfortunately for us, she has quite a bit of natural ability so she somehow manages to look just good enough at important meets.

I got snapchat just so I can see GD’s snaps and laugh. In the week since the camp, there have been snaps about everything–shopping, eating, getting make-up done–but not gymnastics. Granted it’s possible she just didn’t snap about being at the gym but I doubt it lol.

  7. Guest Says:

Hmm…does anyone try to guess who gymnasts would come to Shawn’s wedding this weekend?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I bet Nastia will be there. She ass kissed for an invite for months

      • Guest Says:

Nastia loves to steal spotlight anytime…so that’s why she is desperate to be invited then she acts “nice” to Shawn these few months.

Another reason may be she also wants Shawn to be a guest in her upcoming wedding (if it is real) because it would be embarrassing for her if none of Olympic gymnast attend her wedding.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Jessie de Zillow is a brides maid….. She’s sort of a gymnast.

    • dianajc99 Says:

? will they be moving to the bay area?
don’t see her as an oakland gal.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

He won’t be there long. He’s already been dropped by like 4 teams.

      • Ss Says:

Yea he’s lucky she makes enough to allow him to chase his pipe dream.

      • Guest Says:

They purchased their house in Nashville.

      • Guest Says:

Shawn’s hubby Andrew plays as position of Long Snapper since he was in College football team. It is just only a player of special team and not major players like QB, WR, LB or RB so he won’t be paid a lot even though he is selected to be official player in NFL team. (But it is enough for building a family)

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Long snapper is a position where idf he does get picked up it is a good fit with the kicker and there are no issues he could be there for years.

      • dianajc99 Says:

don’t know much about FB. so he’s they guy that hold the bal;l upright when the other guy kicks

  8. Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m guessing Asac will be at the wedding. She was at the engagement and they seemed to have gotten close as of late. I know Asac is pregnant but she is still in the 2nd trimester so I think she will go.

I am sure Chow will be there! Does that count? Lol

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Well if ASac is covering super six for TV this weekend probably not..

    • Guest Says:

ASac should be the shoe-in one. I wonder if any Fierce 5 members who retired from elite (Wieber, Maroney, Ross) also got invited and if any of them committed to attend.

Shawn will also partner with Derek Hough as ambassadors of Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, and Derek also is off-season now so I bet he will come to her wedding.

    • Gymbee Says:

I follow Nastia on snapchat, and her and her man are definitely going to Shawn’s wedding. She took photos of them on the plane writing “Nashville-bound” and that they’re ready for a wedding weekend.

  9. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Ponor is doing vault in Podium Training, thank God! And Kamarkar have a Produnova vault that can actually land!
