What we learned. Simone is still the Queen. Aly did herself a solid but really needs to get over mental block of that Amanar. Laurie is not the anointed one yet. I say her scores were average for the next it girl. Ragan competed really well for a throw in and once she throws full difficulty Laurie better  watch out. Brenna did a great job considering but I still felt Ragan was lowballed compared to the gifts Brenna got and Ashton just needs to keep hitting bars.

Good Night.

US: Rotation 4: Balance beam

Looks like Marta wants a test and so the US will finish on beam.

Ashton: Short leaps. Bad form. Long lines does not equal form Peszek. 14.450 ( ha my ass)

Ragan: Great routine from Ragan. Not even a bobble. 15.050

Aly: Bobble after piked front and so she didn’t add the jump to it but rest was solid. The Best I have seen her do the turn combination. 14.800

Laurie: Messy bobble on switch leap and switch ring looked short but rest was great. Low landing on the double pike. 15.250

Simone: Great routine for Simone. one missed connection. Drilled the landing. Simone just did an exhibition on beam that looked like she did it on floor. One of her best routines of all time. 15.550

Brenna: She missed every connection and was short on every leap but besides the obvious she didn’t bobble and she stayed on. It was a success for her. 14.100 ( real judges take a point off. she missed that many leaps and connections)

US: Rotation 3: Uneven Bars

Aly: Hit routine for Aly. She stayed on and had her usual messy form but it was a hit for her. 14.300

Laurie: Messy pak and some missed handstands but better than Jesolo : 14.800

Simone: Messy pak but not as messy as everyone else and she doesn’t flow on the bar. She also stalled on the top bar but still great. 15.050

Beware people wordpress is sending you to spam. It’s not me

Brenna: She missed several handstands and still has the form issues but she stayed on. 15.250

Ashton: Her usual routine tho short handstand on high bar. 15.550

Regan: A little messy but a pretty good job. 14.600

US: Rotation 2: Vault

Ragan: DTY. Nice landing. Iffy form. 14.600

Laurie: DTY, Piked, big step and a little form. 14.800

Brenna: DTY: Form, piked and step just like everyone else. 14.950 (again too high)

Aly: Amanar. Huge 2 steps and messy. 15.200

Simone: Amanar. Big step but dead on form. Beautiful. 15.800

Chang: Low and piked with a small step and even a little form issues but still pretty good. (missed the score)

Shallon Olson on floor. Great double double but she really doesn’t even pretend to dance but that was a nice routine for her. she had some good landings.

Megan Roberts: Had a great double  front piked and nailed her full in landing but like the rest of Canada they have no dance ability. They don’t even really present a routine well.

Kirstin Peterman: Now she has much better presentation she at least looked like she was trying to dance.

US: Rotation 1: Floor:

Please have no commentary. PLEASE HAVE NO COMMENTARY.

Our music is brought to you from the 90’s

Damn it. Sam and that annoying Evan. So damn close. Hi Sam. How’s your mother? You know the one that got you this job.

Big issues from Brenna on her dance. Leaps were short and her Memmel turn wasn’t complete and she looked like she stepped out on the first pass. Too high with all her leap issues. 14.550

Ragan was short on her double layout but I day dreamed through rest. 14.300

( Stop laughing Peszek. You sound like an idiot school girl. Every time she laughs, take a drink. I’m already drunk.

Laurie is back to the spastic dance. It was so much better in podium training but good landings.  14.950

Great routine from Aly. nice landing until it froze before her last part. 15.600

Great routine from Simone. Huge step on her first pass but rest was nailed. I liked this routine much better today than podium. 16.050

I need to get up for a Wedding tomorrow morning ( Oh fun, more when is it your turn talk) so I am not sure if I will live blog the entire thing but we will see. Off to find the Results page.

The time totally threw me. Not used to things being in my timezone.

  2. ilanchik20 Says:

Apparently Marta is playing a cruel joke on Brenna. At least, in warm-up, they r wearing that awful purple leo from World’s QF.

  3. dianajc99 Says:

please, please.please let this be like the earlier session and no commentary.

  4. dianajc99 Says:

iF you would like to put up with she who shall not be named (Y) nbc also has a live broadcast.

  6. dianajc99 Says:

    NBC on a delay

  7. dianajc99 Says:

didn’t regan have a piked double Arabian like a year ago?

  8. dianajc99 Says:

you can hear the FX music better on the NBC feed.

  9. dianajc99 Says:

maybe they should add a jump out of her 1st pass

  10. Gymnast41 Says:

    Aly’s amanar…wow

  11. Gym Obsessed Says:

I would never make a good judge b/c how did Laurie’s vault score more than Ragan’s? Maybe I’m too focused on the landings? Anyways, thanks for posting the scores b/c I keep missing them!

  12. dianajc99 Says:

the 3 year old is from LA right. I forget.

  13. ilanchik20 Says:

Tim just said that Simobe is a bars world’s medalist LOL

  14. Cupquaked Says:

BRENNA!!!! Wow. Not a perfect routine but so good for her!

    • Gymnast41 Says:

All I could do is smile 🙂

    • harts Says:

Way to go, Brenna! Now all she has to do is hit again in event finals and she could be back in consideration for Rio!!!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She is still the third bar worker behind Ashton Kutcher and Kocian tho so not really.

      • harts Says:

Maybe for an alternate position???? Madison and Ashton are both fragile too

      • Laura Says:

I agree, she has put herself back in the mix…but I don’t see her getting more than an alternate position. Madison or Ashton will get the nod (whomever is healthy and madison over asthon because of beam)

  15. dianajc99 Says:

    Simone Biles: NOT HUMAN!!!

  16. Gymnast41 Says:

so aly beat laurie by .1?

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

      She did! Yay!!!!

And Aly prob lost .6 on that vault landing.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She still got a 15.200 so maybe she lost 5 but this was huge for her. Without the bobble on her front punch pike and missed connection I say this was a good meet for her.

    • Gym Obsessed Says:

      So glad for Aly!

    • H Says:

So happy that Aly placed second! But when will she be more competitive on beam. I get that she did not connected the piked front. but still, i dont get why she is scored so much lover than Laurie (Laurie should be deducted for her dismount?)

And so happy for Brenna! How thrilled she must be placing forth and get that bar routine out of the way.

  17. dianajc99 Says:

think they will have simone actually compete on all 4 again tomorrow? seem like over kill.

  18. Laura Says:

Ugh, I hate the two per country rule

  19. H Says:

I am totally confused japan on third AA? Did not see that coming ..

  20. H Says:

Gymboat, Ilanchik GTT, etc. Can you please explain to me why Aly’s d-core on beam is 6.1, and Laurie’s is 6.4.
    I dont get it?

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m the worst at counting skills but basically Aly counts a lot of D skills and relies heavily on connections which are better this year but are still connections. Aly’s switch half, especially, is iffy.

Laurie relies less on connections and more on straight D. I think Laurie’s bhs-loso-loso is basically is the difference.

Laurie’s almost always has a super low-chest landing on her pike dismount but these judges seem to close their eyes every time she dismounts, I swear.

  21. Kyz Says:

What were the NZ girls like? I couldn’t get the feed I was given going. Obviously a different league but I believe we have improved? ?

  22. sanitynmotion Says:

If Maggie is out due to her knee, wondering if both Ragan and Laurie might make Rio. Seems like now GD, Simone and Aly might be locks. Is there really a need for that bars specialist?

  23. Rocío Martínez López Says:

WOG gymnastica says that there are rumours that Afan could give a positive for Meldonium because the drug could remain in the system for two years: http://www.wogymnast.com/2016/04/russias-ksenia-afanasyeva-might-have.html.

  24. Ilanchik20 Says:

Both Simone and Laurie are opting out of event finals. Interesting. Simone–sure. But I wonder why Laurie gets a pass?

    • H Says:

to give Aly a chance to connect her beam (at least in the eyes of the judges?)

    • Mim Says:

Smart move by Aimee – keep Simone safe!

    • SS Says:

I think Simone has a very minor injury, I was at the meet and she hardly warmed up floor before the rotation. She had a slight limp the whole night and the trainers were working on her. Obviously it didn’t effect her performance because she was amazing.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Interesting. You could see Simone limping during the medal ceremony but I thought maybe that was a weird landing or something.

Simone is really amazing but USAG, keep her healthy.

      • H Says:

I thought she got it at the very end of her floor routine, but maybe it is an old minor injury.

  25. Katie Says:

I know I’ll get a little flack for this- but I really don’t see the appeal of aly aside from floor. And since she is beatable there, I’m not sure how she fits on this Rio team. Her form is just so so bad, and everyone seems to be making excuses for her. Like “of its better this time” or “but she had so much power”. When you have a gymnast like Maggie, how do we bring Aly? Trust me, I’d rather have Aly over GD, but I’m just not sure how this works. I think the only locks on this team right now are Simone and Gabby.

    • H Says:

Aly is far from 100% but she shouldn’t be (though beam might be re-worked). It is hard to keep top shape over a long period. I think maybe Laurie is peaking to early in the season?

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Aly got 15.6 on floor–no one, except Simone can beat that score. Reagan is messy and Laurie’s floor is still .7 behind Aly. Marta wants that floor and she wants that Aly on the team.

I wish Aly added a major skill to her routine and got rid of some of these connections. But she is improving on beam–I trust Mihai 100% that he is pacing her correctly.

Maggie is injured, unless she comes back really strong on vault and floor, which seems unlikely, I don’t see her on this team.

Reagan is like Finegan 2012 to me but with more consistent beam.

      • SS Says:

Seeing Aly live, she looked so solid on beam and floor. She honestly looks so powerful and confident compared to the rest of the team (aside from Simone). Her amanar is scary…but her bars is usable in a clutch situation. I can completely understand why they want her on this team. Mihai took her aside and talked to her for a solid 5 minutes after the meet, it would be interesting to know what she said.

    • KG Says:

I happen to like Aly, but not necessarily all of her gymnastics. She’s well spoken, a good role model, and seems like a real person.

But there are two reasons that she is likely a lock for the rio team. 1) she has the potential for high scores and except for the last few meets, has been rock solid and dependable. 2) she’s gone pro and is a great spokesperson. (GD is pro and is not a good spokesperson). We can pretend all we like that good gymnastics will get viewership and sponsors, but really it is the superstars that bring that in.

      • KG Says:

And in a bit of defense of Aly’s gymnastics, she has an amanar. It needs work but she has one. Not so many others still have theirs. And with Maggie getting injured, stock in amanars just went up.

And her floor is unbeatable, save for Simone. Her beam is good, needs a bit to get up to par again. Bars are the only thing that really lack, but she has them.

Think about Kocian and Ashton. They have bars. And those bars may or may not be good for a silver/bronze, let alone gold. Kocian has a beam but nothing we want as a top choice and Ashton has nothing else.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Your opinion might be debated but you personally will not be attacked for not liking Aly or her gymnastics. You’re allowed an opinion. I don’t agree gabby is a lock. If she is beaten by either any combination of the 2 at Nationals and Trials of Aly, Ragan and Laurie or add Maggie in than Gabby is not a lock. Marta said it 4 years ago Trials is what matters because that is close to the Olympics. Also if Bailie Key comes back strong add her name to that list.

Now regarding Aly she has been clutch in the past and she was clutch at last years worlds where she put up the best non Simone beam score in team finals. She was trusted to do beam because of what she had done in the past. Courtney Mcool taught us in 2004 you never know how a rookie will react in team finals of the Olympics so what Aly brings to the table is steady. It’s why Marta used Kyla on all 4 events in team final in 2014 over a greater risk or reward floor routine from Maddie or Alyssa.Kyla can be counted on and Marta wasn’t sure anyone else could be. same with Aly. Gabby had a more difficult beam routine at worlds last year but because she fell during prelims she wasn’t trusted and that is what Aly brings tothe table.

As for Aly’s actual gymnastics I kind of agree with you. Besides floor her actual gymnastics is messy but the can count on aspect matters to Marta and the team will need that,

  26. Ilsnchik20 Says:

After watching this meet, honestly, this may not be a popular opinion but I don’t see a point for taking Gabby. There are plenty of other great AA’ers (Laurie to name one and I don’t even like her gymnastics that much) so if we are taking her for bars, take a bars specialist. Her DTY is hardly worth a spot. I never thought I’d say this, but if you want a vaulter, take Skinner.

Even if Maggie is injured, Gabby should still stay at home. Sigh.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

you spelled your name wrong which is why your comment had to be approved. Really Ilana I know mistakes happen but your own name????:)

The poit of taking Gabby is even with being overscored she has beaten Laurie, Aly and Ragan both times out. If she loses at Nationals and trials to any 2 of the 3 than I agree she should be left home but she needs to be beat to lose her spot.

  27. dianajc99 Says:

I made my mom watch simones beam on NBC. Her reaction when seeing Marta.. She still Here

  28. Ss Says:

Gabby is retweeting dessert after dessert…someone is struggling to stay on her Olympic diet.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

I don’t think she’s been in the gym since camp…

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Very odd. If GD doesn’t show up ready at Trials, she won’t make this team. I am almost clapping my hands together excitedly to see that, with someone after saying “well, I guess we all have to learn to deal with disappointment.”

I feel like GD is too overconfident. If anything, I’d be worried looking at how Ragan and Laurie are coming on strong. Maggie’s injury is a “plus” for Gabby’s situation but let’s hope she can somehow come back with an amanar, even though I know that’s asking far too much.

  29. Ilanchik20 Says:

In an interview with IG, Marta has confirmed that Maggie tore her miniscus on an underrotAted amanar. She has already had the surgery.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

That’s no bueno. No amanar for Maggie she will have a really tough time making this team. The amanar was what was really keeping her relevant. Skinner now has a better shot and Alys spot is more secure.

  30. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Russia’s team for the European Championship have been named: Mustafina, Melnikova, Afan and Paseka, plus one still to be decided. I don’t understand why they risk Afan and I am sure they would have taken Seda too if she didn’t fall five effing times in today’s event finals.

  31. lovelucas Says:

Can I just say – not a regular poster, obviously, but – Ashton had 6 releases and Laura 5. Top 3 AA I predict are: Simone who is the queen wo a doubt; Aly has that magnificent floor but ify beam; Gabby will be sent even if she’s out of shape from all those deserts but… again – Ashton is just the best on bars. Brenna is owed from Marta etc and everyone but I don’t know if she’ll make it on any event. Heading to Trials in July but feeling shafted since there’s an earlier event. The Men’s competition is at a different site and a different month. What a crock and such a short change to we who had experienced the 2012 Trials at the same location. Huge party afterwards including participation by the ENTIRE Olympic Team – guys and gals – plus being serenaded by Kenny Loggins. and now they’re splitting everything up with no celebration. This will be my final attendance at Olympic Trials. I hate how everyone at NBC has to genuflect to Marta Karolyi. and that includes all potential team members. The only refuge is that both Simone and Aly did a perfunctory curtsy. I can’t stand hearing Nastie nor Al Trautwig, Both of them, in professional trade lingo, suck.

  32. ilanchik20 Says:

Damn. Brenna. Fell off on bars. Sigh.

  33. sanitynmotion Says:

Which is why I don’t understand why they keep giving her chances.
