Pac Rim Team

Biles, Dowell, Hernandez, Locklear, Nichols and Raisman.

(Feel free to discuss)

Aly needs to prove herself or Marta wants to break her like she broke Alicia. Gabby isn’t here because we can’t have her losing to Simone in prime time. That might screw up NBC pretending Gabby has an actual shot at beating her come Nationals and Trials. Will Maggie have back her Amanar once again proving Marta screwed her over or will she make her do the DTY to pretend the opposite? Regan isn’t here because her beating Laurie at Jesolo can not happen on NBC and Brenna. Sweet, sweet Brenna. Is Marta really giving you another shot or is this a sick game?

Congrats to Lizzy Leduc for making Nationals for Floor by winning the Floor event at Regionals. She also had a great beam routine that for some reason only received a 9.8 while UCLA had their usual shit routines for higher scores. Talia Chiarelli also made it for floor after Michigan tanked beam and had to count a fall and didn’t make Nationals.

Rest of teams and individuals that made it.

Fan Yilin has a new 7.0 start value bar routine and look at those legs stuck together and hit handstands. My kind of gymnast.

  1. Laura Says:

Interesting, I never would have picked this team. Why Dowell and Locklear and no Smith? Seems odd….I could have predicted they won’t put Biles and Douglas up together in an international meet, seems weird to not trial Smith though. Guess they are looking for “back-up” bars worker in case Madison doesn’t come back healthy?

  2. Ilanchik20 Says:

This team makes no sense–which AA’er is sitting out bars? I’m not convinced it will be Aly which means someone will get screwed unless Brenna is the one sitting out bars lol.

At Jesolo, Regan said that she is planning on doing her Patterson at Pac Rim’s. Perhaps Marta wants to take her confidence a notch down, haha.

Yeah, if Kocisn doesn’t come back semi-healthy, it may bode well for Locklear.

  3. Laura Says:

I know, I don’t understand why Smith is not on the roster unless she is injured….Ugh, I hope not

  4. G Says:

The curious case of Brenna Dowell. Quite the head scratcher. I love Brenna but why? I hope she proves me wrong though but we shall see

  5. Exgymgurl Says:

So Brenna over skinner makes me think Marta is using this meet to audition two bar workers to replace KOcian. IT also makes me think Marta is abandoning the three quad pattern of taking a vault specialist.

    • Gymbot Says:

Skinner is probably stil in the mix, maybe she just gets a break to catch up on school or rest or whatever after her two weeks in Europe

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I love Brenna but there is no way Marta will take her to Rio. If Kocian doesn’t come come back, Locklear may very well make the Rio team.

I heard Mihai wanted Aly to skip Pac Rim’s to work on upgrades and they were talking to Marta about that but I guess Marta didn’t agree lol.

According to Laurie’s coach, Laurie placed 2nd AA, which likely means Maggie isn’t doing the amanar.

No Regan makes no sense. Supposedly she was not listed on the original USAG camp list, even though she was there lol.

    • Gym Obsessed Says:

      Perhaps Brenna has an amanar?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Like the consistent one she had that helped her make the team last worlds? God only know what she really has.

  6. Laura Says:

She doesn’t need a vault specialist…with Biles and Nichols capable of amanars, and likely Raisman the vault line up is fine. Douglas or Rasiman could do an adequate enough double. The likelihood of skinner getting a medal is low, especially if Biles upgrades, she’s a likely medal contender. Skinner just doesn’t fit in the puzzle with the current gymnasts.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

She didn’t need the vault specialist last go-round either but she took Maroney (Aly, Jordyn, and Gabby had amanars)…you never know with Marta.

      • SS Says:

Maroney was a guaranteed gold tho…(look how that worked out) also, according to her interview the plan was for her to compete floor as well but she got injured the first practice in London.
Biles is the likely medalist for vault from the USA anyways. Simone, Aly, Maggie, Regan, etc all score higher on floor

  7. harts Says:

Sooo excited for Brenna…I hope she can redeem herself this time and do her unbelievable bar routine! Maybe if she hits her bars she could be in the running for an alternate spot for the Olympics. As much as I love her, though, I don’t think there is any way Brenna will be named to the actual team.

  8. KG Says:

Brenna?! Really? I don’t have anything personal against Brenna, except that she’s headcasey… But I’m honestly shocked Marta is giving her another shot. And even if this is just some weird part of a game, I’m still surprised that she is letting her name actually be announced in anything new other than a camp list. I really think Marta is going for a bars specialist this time. Obviously she’s worried about her first choice, Kocian, staying healthy.

Simone, not a shocker. Aly, also not a shocker, but this is her shot to turn things around. She’ll probably make rio regardless based on popularity and pro status. Maggie, also not a shock but I hope she is her amanar.

I think Marta still likes Ragan, but I’ll bet you anything penny likes Laurie better.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta hates party crashers. Ask Chellsie Memmel.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Who’s the party crasher now? Ragan? I’m honestly asking because I don’t follow as much anymore I guess. Like Ragan did too well and beat Laurie? I thought she lost to Laurie on beam? Or did she beat her at the AA in the last meet?

  9. dianajc99 Says:

ye bar routine reminds me too much of Nastia.

  10. Laura Says:

Umm, has anyone checked out the USA website? Ragan Smith is now listed and Ashton is off the roster

    • Laura Says:

It’s weird, she’s on the photo but then Locklear is listed in the press release

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Simone took a pic with the pac rim team and it included Ashton so maybe it’s a mistake?

      • Laura Says:

Must be, they just took it down and now the photo shows Ashton. Guess, they had thought Ragan would be on the team, maybe she was pulled and Asthon replaced? They are in the same spot on the photo..I wish I knew how to upload so you guys could see.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Man that stinks…cause if there was one person other than simone that I couldn’t wait to watch it was probably ragan

  11. Mim Says:

This team is a little weird but I guess it is clear that Marta is worried about Madison Kocian breaking as the rest of us are if Ashton and Brenna are on this team. Brenna has balls and determination, I will give her that. I hope she hits and stops headcasing. I prefer Madison to Ashton though, so I’m hoping Kocian pulls through her injury. Laurent needs to wrap her in cotton wool and bubble wrap until Nationals.

I kinda wish Ragan was on this team so I could continue to compare her progress with Aly’s, because to me they seem to be fulfilling a similar role for the team. I don’t mind Laurie so I’m happy to see her on the team. Although I would have guessed Marta preferred Ragan of the two so I was clearly wrong!

Bailie has just totally faded into obscurity. I really wonder if she’s injured or if Kim is pulling her out under the guise of injury for not hitting perfectly enough, of if she’s being strategic and keeping Bailie healthy/unbroken by avoiding death camps so she kills it at trials.

    • tulip Says:

Sadly, Bailie could destroy trials and nationals and it wouldn’t matter. She will pick the team she wants and I think she has a pretty good sense of direction where she will go. I would hope that NBC would interview her if she did that. Nastia: Uhhh, so Marta, you left Bailie off the team and she’s been 2nd all-around. Care to explain?” Marta: “No” walks away cussing in Romanian

  12. Gymnast41 Says:

Laurie won 2nd AA at camp this weekend so things are getting a bit interesting 🙂

    • Laura Says:

I’m interested to see how her UB scores compare to Dowell and Locklear, would be interesting if she scores higher.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Camp Marta doesn’t actually decide the outcome with real judges tho. Laurie was scored very average (US average) at Jeselo and those judges know to keep Marta happy so we will see.

  13. Cupquaked Says:

Honestly, I love this team. And I know it’s irrational and an unpopular opinion but I literally love every single one of these gymnasts for different reasons.

I think this team works because it’s a 6-5-4 set-up (pretty sure). I’m too tired to actually go into my analysis but basically each apparatus has 1 anchor, 2 solid girls, and 1-2 average girls which is what most teams want. So you’re guaranteed solid sets even if someone faulters. Unlike the Olympics, Pac Rims calls for more AAer’s because of the set up. Which, for me, stinks because I’d love this to be the Olympic team (maybe switch Ashton for Kocian if healthy).

The hopeful inside me (don’t know why it’s still there at this point with USAG) sees the 2012 team and Jordyn, Kyla, and Gabby were on it. So there’s a good chance some of these girls will likely make it onto the Olympic team. Isn’t this the last internation competition for the US until Olympic quals?

    • H Says:

I also thinks this team is great:-)
Regarding Brenna, USA org. needs to be transparent , meaning the best gymnasts at camps gets to go, as Martha said after worlds. With such a strong pool of gymnasts I think “they have to stick” to this policy. And Brenna is good at ub, she probably has her amanar back, and is solid on floor. Though I am nervous, I am also excited thats she gets another chance.

  14. Ilanchik20 Says:

I love this team too. Everyone is nice and hardworking and there is no Gabby 🙂

I love Brenna so I’m prob biased but if she could figure out how to compete her bars and amanar in a high-steak competition, she could be a very addition to the team.

It’s also will be nice to see Maggie, Aly and Laurie go head to head with non-Marta judges lol.

During the Olympic year, most of the Pac Rim’s team makes up the Olympic team–I would be totally fine with that, haha.

    • Laura Says:

I agree, it’s a great team and will be a great weekend of gymnastics. I’m interested to see what Breanna has up her sleeves for this weekend and will be great to see what the girls can do together in the all-around.

  15. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if Marta is prepping Brenna for an Anna Li role. Only Brenna could potentially be used for more than bars if necessary. I also think Marta may want to see how Laurie, Maggie, and Aly do in the AA to see who could potentially be a 3rd AAer. Although Ragan, Norah, and Bailie could all potentially fill that roll by Nationals.

  16. Melanie Says:

I don’t understand the Brenna love…I mean, she seems like a very sweet girl, but it drives me crazy that she is given chance after chance and blows it nearly all the time. I’m not just talking about Worlds – I’m talking about nearly every single bars performance at Nationals, Classic, etc. Why was she taken over Bailie Key last year when Key was way more consistent and deserved that chance? Why is she being taken now over Ragan Smith, who definitely earned it at Jesolo? Her “specialty” on bars means nothing when I’ve seen her hit like, twice ever…and usually only in podium training.

I feel like the Grinch here, but really, I don’t get it.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Youre not a grinch and I totally agree. She had her shot last year and I dont care how many bar routines she hits she had her shot last year and blew it. Imagine if she had done that routine during team finals. I know they won by like 5 points but Marta giving her a shot to do that during team finals is suicide.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I don’t get it either. She has some unique skills, but nothing about her competitive ability or personality really makes her stand out. I know that Marta probably based the team selection on (mostly) the last camp and said last year that Brenna earned her spot on the team by hitting every bar routine in training for 2 weeks, but the girl has proven that she can’t hit a bar routine for shit in competition. I really can’t imagine Marta giving her a chance to do that bar routine again so MAYBE (just maybe) she told Brenna that she could still be in the running for future teams if she switched up the routine composition and did one that was less risky? Maybe Al Fong finally pulled his head out of his ass and reworked the routine so that it wasn’t a freaking marathon packed with risky skill connections? That’s probably me being too hopeful but her keeping that routine just does not make ANY sense.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I really honestly think Bailie Key is dropping to L10 and off to NCAA

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am starting to believe you’re right. Either that or she is injured because not competing all season long is suicide.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

In theory, Bailie is injured. She has a partially torn abdominal muscle. That said, she supposedly is still training at full strength. Perhaps it’s more serious than Kim is letting on.

Bailie hasn’t been to the last 2 camps (so competition aside), unless you are from WOGA, you dont get to skip camps and then make an Olympic team. Kim should know better lol.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I don’t believe she has a slight injury that has kept her out of competing during an Olympic year. What you wrote above was perfect. If you’re not competing during an Olympic year you will not make a Marta lead Olympic team.

Something is up. This is very suspicious.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Either Bailey really has no chance anymore or Kim is hoping Bailey will Chellsie Memmel it at nationals and trials. The only problem is Bailey is a relative no-namer on the elite scene and when Memmel did her party crashing she was formerly a World champ.

Bailey hasn’t even made a world team, right? I don’t understand if she has an abdominal tear but is training 100% why can’t she compete?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t get it either. I read her name and my mouth literally fell open.

    • KG Says:

Yeah I’m right there with you. Pretty bars, yes. Seemingly nice girl, sure. Great. None of that means anything unless she hits when it counts. Maybe and even hopefully she’ll get it right at pac rims, but even so… Do you trust her for the Olympics? Doubtful. I feel like she’d have to hit everything out do the water from here on out without so much as a hair out of line and I just don’t think that will happen.

And I think there are a lot of girls who had earned that spot. Whenever Brenna makes a team, we are always saying that she must have huge upgrades or proved something at camp, and we haven’t seen it yet.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Exactly. The rumored Amanar she was hitting at camp. Still waiting for that.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Even if she had an amanar, she’s proven she can’t be trusted to take to a major comp. She’s not going to the Olympics, no way. Maybe she’s being taken to play mind games with the other bar specialists – i.e., hey guys you might have more competition than just Ashton vs. Kochian.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I was referring to KG’s comments,

Whenever Brenna makes a team, we are always saying that she must have huge upgrades or proved something at camp, and we haven’t seen it yet.

And I agree with you about Brenna. I just can’t believe I am defending a Wogaette not named Kocian hitting last year to me means if she hits this year and we take a one event gymnast it’s hers to lose. she needs upgrades tho because look at Yilin’s new 7 start value on bars. That means Kocian isn’t winning a UB gold medal without upgrades. We don’t need a UB specialist for team. Not IMO

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I totally agree, and agree on not needing an UB specialist. Felt like Kocian winning gold last year was a fluke. The Russians and Chinese usually pulverize us here. Why waste a specialist on this event? Makes more sense to take a vault specialist, even though that is basically our best AA’er at this point so that’s why even taking a vault specialist isn’t that worth it.

I would think Marta would need 4 AA’ers and a beam/bars specialist for Rio. But it seems like Locklear and Kocian don’t have strong enough beam sets. This is where I saw Kyla also having a chance…

        I guess we’ll see.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        oh Kyla.

      • Mim Says:

I actually keep forgetting Kyla has retired 😦

  17. Exgymgurl Says:

Brenna did an amanar at scam with ebe two years ago….

  18. KG Says:

Why do you think they’re going with a bars specialist? (So it seems at least)

Maybe they think that with a weaker international field, a bars medal might be achievable? I don’t keep up enough to know international bars scores. What are Kocian or Ashton’s chances of a bar gold? Or even silver or bronze?

Maybe they assume that with Simone they have a vault medal already. Maybe Aly is actually training another vault?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Both have 6.5 or 6.6 so both can medal but everyone will be upgrading so they need to step it up. Yilin has a new 7.0 routine which you would know if you read my blog:)

      • KG Says:

Haha I did see that! but I guess I was wondering more so Russia. I don’t even know who is left standing there. And don’t international judges usually pick apart Chinese routines anyways

  19. Mim Says:

What are Mykayla’s chances for a vault silver against Hong and Paseka? I can’t even remember their vaults except for Paseka’s amanar.

    • Gymbot Says:

Each gymnast has an amanar and cheng, I think paseka’s vault has come a long way and Hong has always had a nice amanar. I think they Both could put a lot of work into the cheng, I remember both being messy last year

  20. Ilanchik20 Says:

USAG just reported that Regan is replacing Maggie at Pac Rim’s because Maggie had a knee injury. Hope it’s not serious.

    • Cupquaked Says:

They said minor so hopefully it’s just a tweak or sprain. I’m so sad for Maggie but happy for Ragan! I still love this team and this is the first time in awhile I’m excited to watch a meet.

      • Tortuga Says:

Happy for Ragan but worried Maggie’s knee injury is more serious than they let on. They never say “so and so is out with a major injury”, It’s always minor. McKayla’s injuries were only “minor” going into the Olympics. So I will not be surprised if this ends up being more. UGHHHH DAMN YOU MARTHA! Does anyone else notice they put Ragan in and not Gabby? So obvious they don’t want Simone and Gabby to compete against each other to keep the “rivalry” going.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Yeah, I’m afraid it’s not as minor as they say. The original post said that Maghie with drew with knee injury, they then added the word “minor” and posted a new announcement.

Even with a minor knee injury, it could be bad. She has tore her minus us before. She needs her amanar to make the Rio team and a even minor knee injury can prevent her from training one.

Regan was already there–I think she was the alternate–but yes, def, Gabby wasn’t going to Pac Rim’s no matter what.

      • Laura Says:

Hoping that this olympic year won’t be selected based on who’s left standing…but the trend is starting

  21. dianajc99 Says:

so Maggies out of pac rims with a “knee injury”.

  22. H Says:

Was it not a knee injury Maggie had in 2014?

Anyone wondering/know where Rachel Gowey is?
(not to speculate, but she is the only listed international elite on Chows webpage, strange. Maybe they are updating a new page?)

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

It was a knee injury–torn meniscus, I think.

Norah is not on the senior national team right now so she is not international elite technically.

  23. sanitynmotion Says:

Can I just say that I am bummed this Olympics is going to be not all exciting from a gymnastics point of view. The US is so dominant, Trials is going to be more competitive than the Olympics.

I mean it’s so bad that Romania didn’t even QUALIFY A TEAM. That’s just…unbelievable to me. Three Olympics ago they super dominated.

    • H Says:

Maybe China has a trick up their sleeve

    • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Have faith, sanity. Romania still have a shot to qualify a team. And if China and Russia stick (something I haven’t see them do in a long time) they can have a good competition with improved rutines. Just look a Fan Yilin’s 7.0 routine on bars. Just image two other routines over 6.7 in bars, good beam routines and decent vaults and you have something good there.

  24. Gymnast41 Says:

I mean I’m happy for ragan and all, but seeing the aly/Laurie/Maggie showdown really would have made my entire weekend….I really do hope Maggie’s injury is minor and they just don’t want to risk her getting worse since she’s a legit contender for the Olympic team. Seems like something they’d do for aly simone and gabby as well. But really though, my whole attitude towards this weekend has changed cause I was looking forward to seeing who would make the podium this weekend. Excited for simone of course though

    • Gymbot Says:

Ditto. I’d like to point out that Maggie injured her knee at the 2014 pac rims that she was sent to and was forced to vault a fty right after because Marta wanted to test Locklear and Kocian, neither of which could vault at the time. Gabby’s ankle also exploded at the 2012 pac rims on a botched vault so crossing my fingers that one of these ladies is t taken down. Laurie is injury prone and raisman was heavily taped at jesolo

      • TrishaG Says:

No, Maggie injured her knee at the 2014 Pan Am Championships. Pac Rims is in the spring and Maggie competed at Nationals in August (it’s always around my b’day). I believe Pan Am Championships were late August/ early September, and that’s when she got injured. Worlds started about a month after that so there was no time for her to recover. If she’dtorn her meniscus in the spring, she probably could have recovered in time for Worlds.

  25. Ilanchik20 Says:

The gossip on tumbler is that Maggie having surgery for a torn miniscus tomorrow. Not sure how valid it is but supposedly this come from a parent of another gymnast at her gym.

    Hope it’s not true.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Life sucks. Notice how karma never takes out the real people that deserve the karma.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

      I’ve heard that too :/

    • Mim Says:

I can’t even with this news. How long is recovery on that sort of surgery?

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

6-8 weeks out of the gym, I think. She has already had this same surgery, if it’s the same knee.

Sloan had the same injury in March 2008 so there is hope.

This is assuming the gossip is true.

      • G Says:

Ahh yes, thanks for bringing up Sloan, I remember that now. Hopefully Maggie can come back as quickly, if this is indeed true.

      • Mim Says:

I forgot about Sloan too! Okay all hope is not lost.

    • Mim Says:

I have read on twitter that the ‘tumblr’ rumour re Maggie’s meniscus tear/surgery has been confirmed to be just a rumour by Maggie’s coaches. Sounds like perhaps it is minor and they are keeping a close eye on the knee and keeping Maggie as injury-free as possible which is great.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Hopefully that’s true. There hasn’t been any posts by Maggie about not going to Pac Rim’s which seems unlike her since she is always posting on social media.

I’m still a bit concerned. If her knee is weak enough to warrant skipping Pac Rim’s, then I can’t imagine they’ll risk it competing an amanar. And I feel like she needs the amanar to make the Rio team over other AA’ers. Tough situation. I hate injuries.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

If Maggie loses her amanar she’s only usable really on bars and maybe floor…I believe Marta will only take Maggie if she has that amanar. Otherwise why not take Laurie and Ragan – they are better than Maggie on beam and floor, no?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes they are both better than Maggie on beam. I agree, without the Amanar Maggie has no shot at this team.

  26. H Says:

    Live stream Russian championship

  27. G Says:

I had a class cancelled today and I decided to watch some old competitions. If anyone needs a good laugh, go to about the 27:30 mark on this video:

It’s a fluff piece about DM and Bela to the song “I Will Remember You”. Had to bite my lip to keep from laughing and disturbing other students lol.

  28. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Aliya is in the Russian Championships!!

  29. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Melnikova: 60.067 in Russian Championship Podium Training today. Her scores are probably a little to high (I don’t know, I haven’t seen her routines yet, but it is a home event, it is to be expected) but I think we have a serious contender here.

    • gymbot Says:

she had good routines and others recently

but 60 is a little generous, a stuck DTY and her UB routines could go 15+ but her beam and floor are mid-high 14s at best. She’s been doing the routine above for about two years now and this is the first time she really hit it.

      • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Thank you, gymbot! My feed stopped in the worst possible moment. I realize that their scores are a little inflated, but I think she is a good contender from Russia right now, specially taking into account what we have seen from them last world championships. And Seda didn’t fall! 🙂

  30. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

And I am way too happy because Mustafina competed! :):):)

  31. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

And Nabieva competed AA with a 55.233 and best vault score and 5th on UB.

  32. Gymbot Says:

Alyssa span, bless her, has other videos on her YouTube channel as well.

Looks like they are cooking the scores in melnikova’s favor. Seda hit her beam and has liked full-in dismount and kharenkova upgraded beam and floor and hit both so it looks like these gymnast won’t go down without a fight despite wonky scoring

    • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Seda and Kharenkova were tied in second place, right? I have to see all their routines and we still have the final to decide, but I don’t know about cooking things in Melnikova’s favour. I remember that Kharenkova’s vault was weak, so maybe the difference is there. But both Seda and Kharenkova have cooked things up in international competitions in the past, so I don’t think Russia will take them if they have other options. :(. And a question: Have anyone seen Paseka? I don’t remember seeing her. Is she ok?

      • Gymbot Says:

I don’t think melnikova’s 15+ scores on bars beam and floor really reflect her routine and at least in comparison to routines of her closest competitors

  33. katecoursey Says:

Can’t figure out how to post a link but USA gymnastics posted a slo-mo video of Bile’s Cheng. Looks great. With her execution I wouldn’t be surprised if she takes the vault title!

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Here 🙂 It does look great!

    • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Don’t know about gold, but a medal, for sure.

      • H Says:

if etc and If all hits in EF final isn’t Simone the best by far when it comes to e-score?

      • exgymgurl Says:

why are you hating Rocio? Who at PacRims has a better two vault total if landed? Why is everyone hating on Simone so much in the Olympic year?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Rocio is allowed his opinion. You’re going to complain about alleged hating at this blog of all places .lol oh by the way I have not read his comments so I don’t know what he said. I will agree with you I have seen some Simone hate around the Internet lately and I get the impression there will be more be more of it if she wins AA, Vt,BB and floor at the Olympics which is where it looks like it’s heading. By the way I have noticed some flaws in Simone’s gymnastics that I had not noticed in recent years. some leg separations on bars and her leaps and jumps don’t have enough flexibility all the time. This is stuff I had not noticed in the past. If the Chinese have 6.3, 6.4 of above start values on beam and they hit they should beat Simone but in the past the judges low ball them in general.

      • H Says:

exgymgurl, I dont think Rocio is hating anyone. But maybe he is more thoughtful, meaning that anything can happen in an EF – It ain’t over till the …. lady sings;-)

      • RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

I don’t hate Simone. In fact, I like her very much. I think she will medal in that final, but we have to take into account that there will be several specialists in that final that have potential to score higher than Simone. Paseka is a contender and the koreans always bring strong vaulters, so to say that Simone will for sure win gold on vault is a little risky in my opinion. But I do think she will be the absolute AA winner; she is so far ahead the other gymnasts that I think she could win even with a fall and if she competes like in the last three world championships, she for sure will deserve it. And I think she will medal on floor too, but I am not so sure about the kind of competition she will have on the Olympics, so I don’t have enough information to make an opinion. And Jesolo and Pac Rims aren’t competitions to make a comparative opinion; the strongest competition she will face in the Olympics (the most important chinese gymnasts, the Russians, etc.) don’t go to those competitions. So I don’t know when I gave you the impression that I hate Simone, but I really don’t. She is not my absolute favourite (Mustafina stole my heart long time ago), but I like her.

And I am a girl, by the way.:) in Spain, Rocio is a girl’s name.

      • Tortuga Says:

I don’t think Rocio is showing Simone hate, she just tries to look at the whole international picture. But I know what you mean exgymgurl I’ve seen more hate around than I use to. I honestly think it’s because GD is looking pretty strong for her comeback, still not my taste but I digress. People don’t like that Simone can beat GD. And I hate to say it but it feels like fans think there can only be one great black American gymnast. Since GD won Olympic AA before Simone came in the picture GD is peoples favorite by default. I REALLY hope Simone doesn’t get hit by the curse of being the favorite to win then end up like Shawn or Jordyn.

Anyone understand why Marta was unwilling to raise bar height for Kyla? Just saying it would have helped…other countries seem willing to change bar settings for differerent competitors

  35. H Says:

according to Lauren, gymternet: Brenna …reportedly beating Raisman in the all-around at verification …

That means that at camp (April) Biles was first, 2. Lauren 3.Maggie 4. Brenna 5. Aly etc

To get on this OG team will be tough …

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I have to wonder if Aly is mentally not as strong anymore. Seems like she messes up now more than ever. I don’t know what happened at camp but for her to come in 5th…that makes me cringe. She might have a harder time making this team than we thought. Even with her floor and an amanar.

It’s probably safe to say Aly won’t get the AA nod for Rio either…we know Simone and GD will have the chance, the question is who will the third person be. My guess right now it’s between Maggie, Laurie, and Ragan (as the third AA’er on the Rio team). Aly might be taken for her floor and possibly beam and vault (if she gets an amanar) but I’m worried she’s not as mentally stable as she used to be.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Brenna won’t beat Aly in the AA at any real competition unless Aly falls. Brenna got a floor score in the 13’s at her last meet. When are people going to stop using Marta’s fucked up judges at camps like matter ? Maroney used to beat Aly at camp yet when they for to real judges outside the US it was my even close.. Not yelling at you just venting at Marta and they way her camps skew reality. She’s using Brenna t9 screw with other people.

  36. H Says:

Outfit (I dont normally pay that much attention, but mint green and pink training jackets for US. Quite special

  37. Tortuga Says:

Anyone watching podium training? Got to see Simone’s new floor. She kept the cute “Oh!” parts in. And it’s very Rio. But I want to see how the crowd reacts to it.

    • dianajc99 Says:

I like it but most of her routines seem the same to me.

    • G Says:

It’s nice but I agree that no one has standout music or choreography. I don’t know…I feel like Jordyn, Aly and Musty had such great FX routines in london. I loved Aliyah’s epic score and Jordyns music had a great sense of power and urgency while Alys always got the crowd going. Now everyone has these weird mashups with nothing memorable.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree with you. Not so much on loving Jordyn, Aly and Aliya’s routines as in the routines the last few years are horrible. The last floor routine I really enjoyed was Jiang Yuayuan and Anna Pavlova’s from 2008 the last floor routine I loved enough to want to watch over and over again came from the 90’s

  38. tennisgrl456 Says:

I had a feeling that the only way Brenna was on this team was if she got rid of that god awful routine that she would never hit and lo and behold, the combos that have always given her the most trouble are gone. She still looks a bit tentative on bars. I’m getting sort of a Vanessa Alter-esque vibe…so many years of being fucked over by a routine that was too hard for her to hit consistently in competition has definitely taken its toll.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t love Brenna’s new routine as I loved the Ezhova combo but if she can hit the new routine consistently–fine. If that’s the case, that means there will be 3-4 gymnasts who can out score Gabby’s bars so good news haha.

If Brenna hits her new bars and amanar, it could make things interesting. Here is to hoping. If Norah doesn’t make Rio, at least let’s make Gabbt an alternate, haha.

With how Laurie and Reagan r doing, Maggie needs an amanar if she wants to be near Rio. I much prefer Reagan over Laurie.

Aly looks better and she upgraded bars by .2. Beam and amanar much more steadier too. Please hit in competition Aly!
