Jesolo, Hundley takes bronze at Stuttgart World Cup

Hundley took bronze at the Stuttgart World Cup. She was a mistake on bars from winning the whole thing.

  1. gymnerd Says:

I so hope Aly does well. I don’t think she can afford to have a bad meet.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Nervous for Aly too. But I’m going to watch. I have the Flo membership–might as well put it to good use.

Well at least Meals got a medal lol. I think a few years ago Maggie got a silver or bronze at Toyota Cup and look where she is now lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Wasn’t an Olympic year…. Skinners amanar was landed low. I have a feeling Aly is a lot more injured than anyone including her and mihai is letting on. I think she’s going to be like Kyla last year where her body has just gotten to a point where she can’t take it anymore….
I don’t want that to be the case.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’d still early. Marta needs Aly to hit at Nationals and trials. Hey do se het a cp this year?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That should say camp. Will team be add at Trials or a camp ?

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

At Trials. They are super late again.

I still think Aly will get that amanar together. She just has so much more power on her vault this squad–I don’t think she has figured out how to control it in competition (with the extra adrenaline).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Thanks for the trials answer.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Aly’s amanars looked so good in training. I’m hoping this was just a fluke but geez. I screamed at my screen, scaring my husband lol.

Aly’s ankles are quite taped but I don’t know what to think. I am not sure I can watch Aly’s meltdown so let’s hope we are not heading that way.

      • Aerial Says:

I’m scared that Aly could get the boot from Skinner and Laurie (whom I like) with these results. Ragas also in her senior debut has show the ability to out score Raisman. I never really thought of Aly not being on the team. If Skinner and her top bun+chicken wire bows make a 5-person Olympic team, I will be tres desolee.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Skinner is not making Rio over Aly. Skinner couldn’t even make floor finals in Jesolo (and Simone and Maggie r at home). Judges r crazy but they think Gabby’s nonsense floor routine is better than Skinner’s. Go figure lol.

Now Laurie, is a diff story. But I still don’t think Marta will take more than one new senior to Rio.

  2. Gymbee Says:

Same. I woke up feeling nervous for her!! I’m going to watch this.

  3. Exgymgurl Says:

Meals getting third at Stuttgart equals we’ll have a nice time in college you can skip nationals and all the pre Olympic gauntlet

  4. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Seda crashed her vault and got OOB on floor on Stuttgart. She finished four in the AA. I think there is no hope for her regarding Rio.😦

    • Gymbot Says:

I think she is still in the mix. It depends on mustafina, all of the veterans could suddenly be pulled out due to injury and mustafina may not appear at Russian champs. I agree out of the other contenders I believe melnikova is on top but seda normally has a better vault and her beam might be better. None of the Russians seem very good on floor so far, so maybe if someone improves a lot there and has a useable beam, they’ll punch a ticket

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

The main problem Seda has is that she has way more competition this year than in 2015. This year, with new and very promising seniors like Melnikova and Skrypnik and Shelgunova making a lot of progress, Seda’s inconsistencies could place her easily below the seven best of Russia this year. And she is not a specialist in any apparatus, so I think that Seda doesn’t have a real shot to the Olympics. Only in the case that half of Russia’s team suffered from injuries she would be selected. In any case, she is ahead of Kharenkova or Spiridorova at this point.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Holding out hope Daria gets her shit together. I want that bar routine on this olympic team.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I love Dasha as well, GTT. But she is basically a one event gymnast and her event is one Russia is already strong on. To bring a UB specialist in a five-members team when you already strong on that event is madness. But if Dasha brings another event to the mix, specially if it is floor or beam…then her chances will improve dramatically. But only with UB I don’t think her chances are very high.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yeah I know but I still hope. Maybe Mustafina won’t be up to par.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I love Darya too! I prefer her over Vika any day.

But Darya is the Russian Locklear unfortunately. Except in Locklear’s case, U.S will take a bars specialist. And yet I highly doubt it will be Locklear lol.

We’ll see what happens with Mustafina. She planned to do Russian championships in April but is now saying she is not ready yet. That said, if Mustafina is usable in just a few events, she’ll go. Much like Gabby, she gets a free pass but at least I feel like Aliya deserves it for carrying the whole team for much of the quad, haha.

      • Gymbot Says:

Shelgunova unfortunately bombed at dtb team and never does well at big meets despite having the dreaded word, promise.

I should take back what I said about e Russians on floor, it seems the fresh seniors upgraded even since less fall and melnikova hit her floor sets for mid 14s.

Sorry gtt, but Russia gained two all arounders that score the same or within two tenths of Daria on bars so her chances are very slim. She has really bad ankles which is why she has weak acrobatics on floor beam and only a yurchenko vault.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

There are rumors that she (Musty) won’t be going to the Nationals at the end, but still rumors by now. I want to see Musty on this olympics, but I think that she won’t do the AA. If she is not in the Nationals because she is still injuried, I don’t think she will be able to do all the apparatus in time, but it is Russia and it is Mustafina, so who knows?

And there is another Russian junior who turned senior this year who was very promising too, Gymbot, but I can’t remember her name, sorry. So Seda, Kharenkova and Dasha are, in my opinion, out of contention.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t think they are rumors. Valentina has said in a newspaper that Musty won’t be at Russian Champs yet cause she is still recovering. Granted, that can still change. But I think it’s a smart move to hold off on competition.

My secret hope is that Kapitonova sneaks into the team. She is not flashy or the once “promising” junior but she appears to been working hard and slowly climbing up rather than the usual trend for Russian gymnasts.

I love Seda but we all know that won’t happen. Her beam is great when she hits it (like she did at DWD) but sadly she doesn’t hit it too often lol.

Melnikova is prob the most likely candidate. Still no clue what happened to Sokova since she used to be Valentina’s favorite.

If Gabby gets another AA medal at Olympics, I’m going to cry–we will never hear the end of it. I don’t like her gymnastics or her personality. If bars is the only thing she is doing in TF, take Locklear, who CAN get a bars medal and she has better form than Kocian on bars.

      • Gymbot Says:

Yeah you are probably right. The other gymnast might be kapitinova . She had a 15 plus – essentially identical to Daria’s routine at massila and just scored the same as her at dtb. I am routing for mustafina in a way because she is the best competitor from Russia. You can’t count her out and I fear with out her and without Iordache, this will be the worst aa final in my memory

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Kapitonova! Thank you, that was the name I didn’t remember, thank you! I really want Mustafina in this Olympics. I have a very soft spot for her and I really think she is a great gymnast, even if her form is not always the best. She has carried team Russia on her back since she become senior and I hope she ends her carreer with a bang in Rio. Also, she is rock solid in comparision with her teammates, something that Russia desesperately needs. But right now, without any news, it is only a sentimental wish on my part. In any case, we will see in the Russian championships. I know what Valentina said, but I don’t believe anything that comes off her mouth, so I still consider it rumors, I need further confirmation.

Gymbot, I think that Iordache will be going to the Olympics if she recuperates. Even if Romania doesn’t qualify, she will be their appointed gymnast without any doubt whatsoever if she is healthy.

I haven’t heard of Afan and Komova in a while. I know that Afan underwent some kind of surgery after last worlds, but I don’t know how she is doing. I have trouble believing that all of the appointed gymnasts (Paseka, Musty, Komova and Afan) will be healthy and in top form for Rio, so I think that at least two new juniors will sneak their way into Russia´s Olympic team.

  5. Ilanchik20 Says:

Ashton isn’t on the start list anymore supposedly. The meet hadn’t even begun lol.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Ignore my comment about Ashton LOL

U.S lineups make no sense–Regan is last on each event. Marta playing games already, haha.

  6. Gymnast41 Says:

This flo feed is literally driving me nuts, I swear if it does this the whole time I don’t think it’s worth me watching 😒. Go aly, beat everyone.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

This broadcast, ugh. I’m with you! Go Aly, lol.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

The one vault I got to see was gabby not sticking hers so can’t say I’m not happy about that 😂

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

GD got 15.3 with a hop. Bless us lol

    • Gymnast41 Says:

My feed froze mid-air for aly how was it?

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

        Over rotated. She fell. Ugh.

You can sort of hear Mihai giving Aly a pep talk on the feed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What did Hernandez get on vault? You’re my eyes and ears for scores.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Laurie with 15.1. Kind of over scored, in my opinion.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

My God what even….I know she’ll have it together for everything else because that’s just who she is, but wow. SO glad I missed that I might’ve thrown my computer lol

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Hernandez got a 15.1 anyone know her SV’s?? Currently pulling for her

      • Melanie Says:

Hernandez had a better vault than Gabby. No way should Gabby have had .2 more than her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hernandez messed up bars so overall Gabby should be ahead so it really doesn’t matter. Aly only for a 14.600 on floor

  7. Ilanchik20 Says:

Aly fell on her amanar. Crap.

  8. Ilanchik20 Says:

Aly hit bars. I had to close my eyes so I didn’t watch the routine but I hear she just had a hop on the landing lol.

  9. Ilanchik20 Says:

    Only 14.85 for GD. Interesting.

  10. Bess Says:

    Ashton got Gabby’s 15.650…good

  11. Exgymgurl Says: Scores on their feed

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Shields just got a 15 on bars. Knocking Gabby out of even finals. I know you said her routine was missing something but she also must have missed a combo or something .

  12. Gymnast41 Says:

Someone please tell me why gaskins is even here? No senior should be getting a 13.3 and a 12.95 on any routine internationally?

  13. Exgymgurl Says:

I think schild and Ragan are not part of the “team” they are just two extras, team is Laurie gabby Aly mykayla Ashton for real….

  14. Ilanchik20 Says:

Regan got 14.6 on bars. And GD 14.8. LOL

Actually if Regan hits the next 2 events she can beat GD.

I think Regan is only .3 behind GD lol

  15. Exgymgurl Says:

14.45 skinner beam, huge balance check on one of her tumbling series

  16. Gymnast41 Says:

Laurie had a couple small balance checks but it was a strong routine with a stuck dismount. 15.3

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Gabby’s routine was probably one of the worst ones I’ve seen her do in a while lol. Aly just killed that routine and stuck her dismount

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

But GD still got 14.75. What?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Aly killed beam. Gabby looks like she could care less…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Why would she care when she does half ass routines and still gets the scores ?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Why did Aly only get 14.95 when Laurie got 15.3? They need to fix her SV…

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Yes please can someone explain that score? I don’t understand.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

GD does a really despot beam and only gets .2 less than Aly? Ugh.

I give up on these scores. This shit is crazy.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I meant GD does one of her worst beams and …

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Jesolo scoring is like Nationals scoring. They are so desperate we show up every year they score us generously like the scM cup so we will continue to show up. My dear blog followers need to understand how this works.

  17. Gymnast41 Says:

    15.1 for ragan

  18. Exgymgurl Says:

Ragan gets a 15.1? No way with massive steps on her dismount… This is like setup to maximally demoralize Aly. And now I’m thinking Chellsie Memmel beam judge is the biggest sellout of all….

  19. Gymnast41 Says:

And now ragan is only .45 behind gabby and Laurie .8. Lol y’all this last rotation will be fun to watch. Ragan and laurie are definitely better at floor than gabby, so if gabby doesn’t win this she’ll be wishing did her upgrades and actually cared for her beam. And exgymgirl I totally agree with you on aly, this whole meet is not working to her favor and I’m starting to get seriously worried. Now I can only hope that Laurie or ragan gets ahead of gabby because clearly the both of them deserve it more than she does. She needs a wakeup call that she can’t just get up and win with no effort when others work so much harder. I was gonna save this rant for later but these thoughts keep running in my head continuously lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Ragan is sloppy and Laurie basically counted a fall on bars. Both their best events are floor tho with the gifts it seems Gabby has gotten all night performance doesn’t se to merit the scoring which says everything.

  20. Exgymgurl Says:

Totally obvious marta doesn’t want skinner or Aly on the Olympic team….. Getting where I hate this.

  21. The Dude Says:

I think I’m the only one who remembers that Aly got low-balled at Jeselo 4 years ago…just like now

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I certainly don’t remember at all but these are Marta judges so what she wants happens

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

She did! I think Marta is pushing Aly into a specialist spot which is unfortunate. But in still stanning lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hernandez floor score was only 14.3 something

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I think Laurie like Kyla four years ago is going to win:-/ Marta brought gabby here to show her that she’s beatable….

    • Gymnast41 Says:

All I remember was that Kyla having an amanar pushed her ahead of aly but nothing of the scoring…

  22. The Dude Says:

Just trying to give the good people who reassurance🙂

  23. Bess Says:

    I just can’t with that smug expression…boooo

  24. Gymnast41 Says:

Ragan needs a 15.1 or better

    • gymtruthteller Says:

With these judges highly doubtful but we will see.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Her highest last year was around that so definitely possible? She only stuck one pass so not really sure at this point.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

If aly only got a 14.6 on floor when gabby got a 14.550 I’m doubtful

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Regan got 14.5 on floor. LOL

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They don’t even try and hide the cheating lol Gabby’s score is impossible with her usual routine even if hit. I wrote a blog last year about why we even go to this meet and it gets answered every single time by the scoring. I don’t know why we get surprised.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If Aly doesn’t fall she is fighting for Gold and add the underscoring fans rhink she received she will be fine. The real issue here is the raising of Gabby’s bars score and ridiculous vault and beam score that gives Regan the real win here. Asych as I don’t like her g nastia’s this bodes well for her and we have a new player in the game. I am more convinced then ever that the reason Bailie Key is being left behind is the International judges love her enough to score her better than Gabby and Marta will not let that happen.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

All the while at this point I can’t help but think about how aly got beat by skinner and flavia, and was grossly underscored in her two best events.

    • Laura Says:

At this point I just wish it were the next quad..then we can be done with watching GD get overscored and ultimately, I’m tired of bias judging in this sport…it’s making it very difficult to watch these days.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s been that way since 2008, unwatchable. I’ll never forget Nastia falling 5 or 6 times between Nationals and Trials and Shawn only beating her by like a point.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Or they are hiding bailie key internationally like Marta did with Mary Lou in the run up to 1984

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

        Marta is not hiding Bailie.

Kim has said that Bailie has a minor abdominal tear so she is opting out of the spring season to save herself for the summer.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That’s cute. You believe everything you are told:) Don’t mind me I have just been through these games before and Marta gets to pick who she and Steve decide will make them the most money. They win anyway.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t necessarily believe what Kim said. But I do think that if Bailie isn’t competing in the spring, she won’t be going to Rio.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I checked the start values and it’s pretty much Gabby winning based on overscoring. Hernandez over dramatic attempt at a floor routine is really annoying to me but how the shit Gabby did beat her out when she at least sells the floor routine with 1 tenth difference in start value is everything wrong with the way this sport is judged.

Gabby, Ragen and Laurie had the exact same start value at this meet. Laurie screwed up bars so her being behind overall I get but the raising of Gabby’s score on bars and her beam gift was the deciding factor.

  25. Exgymgurl Says:

    I hate. This. Meet.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I wonder if Marta whinging about Gabby’s lack of effort is just to save face. There is no way Marta likes being told by Penny what to do. I am starting to think Marta should write the fucking tell all book lol

  26. H Says:

I am wondering if Aly is out of the Rio team, but (lets see if there is hope) had she not fall on her amanar + 1.2, did not see her bar, better beam 0.2, floor + 0.2
then she suddenly is close to Gabby and in second place, and if she was underscored, which I think she was, then who knows … Or is she out?, is all hope lost?

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t think she is out. She’ll get a bit better by Nationals. And with FIG judges, that beam would have gone 15+ which is good news.

Aly didn’t do her full d on floor.

With a hit vault and prob another .2 on bars, she is still in the fight.

But it sort of appers, Marta may want Regan in Rio lol.

    • Melanie Says:

I’m worried for her. This is two int’l meets in a row that she’s bombed vault, been very underscored on beam (thus not usable for the team), and been beaten on floor. Well, I guess her floor was fine this time, but Gabby came within .05…overscored? Yes, but it’s like judges have decided they don’t like Aly anymore. Last go-round, she did better than expected at the Olympics, but now I’m worried she won’t even get a chance to go to the Olympics. The door may be opening for Hernandez, Smith, Key, and other AAs. And I think Nichols has sealed her spot on the team.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think Maggie has anything but secured her spot in this team. Regan and Laurie can beat her in the AA especially under Marta judging. Doesn’t seem like Laurie upgraded much here and if she doesn’t she will need to be perfect to fight with Gabby but it is possible.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

With scoring like this, Regan beats Maggie. And Regan could have top 3 events, Maggie doesn’t.

I’m still not convinced by Maggie.

Basically, what we learned. Simone and Gabby are locks. The last 3–will be whoever Marta likes that day lol.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m still rooting for Aly. I think she is still in but may depend on how Pac Rim’s go, if she goes.

Aly’s beam is still very usable. Both Laurie and Smith won’t go so Aly’s beam is still top 3 plus her floor.

Aly is smart with her training. Some of these gymnasts will be broken by Nationals.

I am not sure about Maggie–maybe lol.

      • Laura Says:

I agree, but it’s still early…a lot can change in 5 months. But, we will be stuck with GD on the team…who really isn’t usable other than UB in a TF situation, but still, it is what it is. MN and SB likely are other locks. We need a bar worker, which keeps MK in the lineup, and then a spot for LH or RS? Guess time will tell. Aly has a lot of work to get back onto that team, not sure why the judges dislike her so much and GD is always overscored, but guess that’s our sport

      • Melanie Says:

Aly’s beam advantage over Gabby is negligible. Two tenths when Aly hit a rock-solid routine and Gabby had a shaky one? They might as well put Gabby up, especially since she has a history of getting gifts on beam. Add Simone and whoever the beam/bars worker will be (Kocian?) and you don’t need Aly for beam. Then add in the fact that her floor is barely scoring better than Gabby and she’s again replaceable. Simone, Maggie, and Gabby do as well or better on floor than a rotation with Aly.

Why do people think Maggie is more replaceable than Aly when she’s been consistently better for months? I love Aly, don’t get me wrong, and I wish more than anything for her to be on the team, but she’s really shooting herself in the foot with these bad meets. She’s not top three right now on anything, or if she is, it’s by about .1 or so. Nichols has better bars and vault right now (even with a DTY), and had better floor in the past two meets.

It’s probably too early in the season to make predictions. I’m still not convinced Marta won’t try to break Maggie’s other knee so she poses no threat to GD.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Because Maggie is going to Oklahoma and Aly is going on tour. It’s that simple

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I think Aly has a chance but if she messes another meet, it’ll be harder. I am still rooting for her lol.

If Aly was doing a DTY, it would be better than Maggie. Aly’s DTY has good form.

Aly’s beam was underscored. I really dislike Maggie’s two wolf turns. Aly can go 15+ on beam by nationals. I doubt Maggie can.

Aly didn’t compete her full D on floor. She took out the punch front from her 1st pass.

And yes, I hope Marta doesn’t kill Maggie’s knee by trials.

I still prefer Aly over Maggie but they are kind of fighting for s diff spot. Maggie should be more worried of Regsn because Marta loves Regan and Regan prob best her in AA too with the way she is judged.

      • Melanie Says:

Aly can go on tour regardless. ASac was on tour in 2012 despite not making the team.

I’m not sold that Aly will have a 15+ beam by Nationals. Maybe, maybe not. She’s taken way too long to make improvements since Worlds, and the clock is ticking. Was she underscored? Yes, but that isn’t going to magically change by the time selection occurs.

Aly would have gained an extra .1 on floor with the added punch, right? Maggie got a 15.1 on floor at SCAM. Again, that was definitely inflated, but the same judges will score her at Nationals.

My worry right now is that Aly keeps showing that she’s rattled. She used to be the picture of consistency, and she’s not anymore. Maggie is. Marta loves having a solid rock on the team, especially one that can be plugged into on any event.

Ragan still needs some polish. She had a great meet, and we’ll see where she ends up, but I’m not sure she’d replace Maggie because Maggie has better bars. Laurie and Maggie seem to overlap more than Ragan and Maggie.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You are missing my point. Tour really has nothing to do with it. It has more to do with one being pro, famous and someone penny can use for money and the other being un-known.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you that Maggie should be ahead of Aly on what we have seen so far this year i am just telling you that fairness and results have nothing to do with this team being chosen and everyone should know that by now.

      • Gymbot Says:

The punch front is worth Two tenth so bonus, but still not as good as Maggie’s recent routines, although Aly had a higher team final score at worlds.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I think Aly didn’t do a jump out of one of her passes too. Plus I don’t trust scam judging lol

  27. Exgymgurl Says:

I could see Laurie and Ragan both going to rio with gabby Simone and Aly…Laurie would have beaten gabby had she not biffed bars

  28. H Says:

Alys d-score, beam 6.1, floor 6.1. Laurie and Ragan, 6.4 d-score beam. Can someone explain that to me, I thought Aly’s d-score should have been 6.4 on beam, (and 6.5 if she did a leap after the piked? Reagan 6.1 floor, Laurie 5.9.

Aly got only 0.5 lower d-score than Laurie on beam, thats good.

  29. Exgymgurl Says:

Wasn’t Aly out of full training with an ankle injury? She’s probably not back at full difficulty yet

  30. Gymnast41 Says:

Aly said in an interview that she’s doing beam and floor finals. So I guess that leaves ragan with no finals, gabby for bars and floor (cough wut), Ashton for bars, and Laurie for beam

  31. Exgymgurl Says: This doesn’t sound like a comment someone would make if their bff was going to classics / nationals / trials. This sounds like a comment someone would make if they knew their Bff ( my person) as they call each other was coming to Florida and reporting in July. They have the fresh come early and do summer classes

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I think it was an innocent b-day wish with nothing regarding Bailie’s immediate future behind it. She just turned 17 and I’m fairly certain that she’s a junior in HS and is committed for Florida after she graduates in 2017.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

I mean from my perspective it sounds like peyton is coming home to witness bailie taking summer classes lol. But I see where you’re coming from, she doesn’t mention the training and the busy summer ahead.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

College classes end before hs classes (may vs. June). So it’s possible Peyton was saying she’ll sit with Bailie in class during May but I thought Bailie did homeschool anyways lol.

Whatever the reason for Bailie skipping the spring season–it can’t be good for her Rio chances, especially since she didn’t go to world’s. I still think Marta has banned Bailie because Bailie can beat Gabby, except Marta didn’t count on Regsn being very close to Gabby too lol (even with whacky scoring).

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

I agree with you re: the sitting in on classes comment. I think Bailie goes to one of those schools that they have for gymnasts similar to a WOGA Spring Academy type place.

I don’t think Bailie’s chances for Rio are looking good at this point, especially with Ragan Smith finishing 2nd AA, 2nd on beam, and 2nd on floor. Plus, I feel like out of all of the TD girls, Ragan has always been Marta’s favorite (maybe I’m making this up but I think I remember reading about her getting invited to NT camps before she was elite?). I freaking LOVE Norah so it kills me to say this, but unless Norah comes out and kills it at Pac Rims, I think that Ragan and Laurie and going to be the only 2000 babies with a legitimate chance at making the team. Maybe I’m biased bc I’m not a Laurie fan, but I can see Laurie in more of an alternate role with Ragan being more likely to make the actual team.

  32. Gymnast41 Says:

So they took GD out of vault and replaced her with schild it looks like.

  33. Ilanchik20 Says:

Carlotta with a scary fall on her beam dismount. Fell on her neck and rebounded on her head. Was down for good 5 minutes. Carried away in the neck brace.

    Hope she is okay.

  34. dianajc99 Says:

Looked to me like GD went out on her y-turn

  35. Gymbee Says:

Aly does her punch layout on her first series. Gorgeous.

  36. Gymbee Says:

    Aly wins floor! 15.050.
    Ragan 2nd 14.650
    Gabby third 14.5

Mihai looked to be discussing something with Martha.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Lord, watching Gabby on floor after Ragan and before Aly just highlights how dismal her performance quality is. I’m probably part of the minority who like Ragan’s routine….it is a bit cute-sy, but it fits her and performs to the music and is able to truly sell the routine. It’s MUCH different than the mature routine that Aly has, but it’s not just obnoxious prancing and floor pounding a la Dom M.

      • Gymbee Says:

        I thought exactly the same!!!
Ragan I think presents really well, and her choreo is nice for her style.
Then Gabby comes and it looks like something my mom does in aerobics class, the movements and the music.

Then Aly and her gorgeous routine.
        Gabby between those two….
The word “shit sandwich” comes to mind haha. Sorry.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Watching that routine in Rio will be embarrassing and dreadful. Especially when we have so many good others–Simone, Aly, Maggie, Regan. Even Laurie and Gaskins. And at least one of these won’t be in Rio, and prob more lol.

        USAG, why? Sigh.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Think about it. If Ragen and Aly and Maggie and Laurie beat Gabby at Nationals and trials Gabby will not make the team. There is decent chance Laurie could do it because Marta loves her and with Maggie so consistent, Gabby could be left out.

It is possible. Keep the faith🙂

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Literally my exact thoughts while watching those two go back to back lol. I figure gabby was like ” no chance at winning gold anyways so whatever” and “performed” the worst floor routine ever lol.

      • Mim Says:

Oh GTT, if only! I would be thrilled with a a Simone, Aly, Ragan, Maggie, Laurie team. I swear I probably would be not so totally averse to Gabby if USAG/the gym world wasn’t so blatantly favouring her, but they are, so I am.

I am holding out hope that Marta has some sort of decency to pick the best girls, not the most famous. She’s about to retire, so really she doesn’t have much to lose by picking the best gymnasts rather than the girls who are pro and bringing in the money/fame. Cmon Marta, stick it to Penny.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It could happen:) They need someone on this team who will continue gymnastics in 2017 so that would be Laurie and Ragen.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

That team would make me very happy! I would even settle for a team without Norah (tears), if Gabby stays at home.

I think my dream team would be Simone, Maggie, Aly, Norah and Regan. If only lol.

    • H Says:

And Miha did not look happy. I my mind he said to Martha: dont play mind games with Aly on her beam routine, it does not work! Look at her floor when you stay away!

      • Gymbee Says:

Yes! Cause he tapped his temple, did you see?

      • Aerial Says:

I can’t stand supporting arrogant, self-absorbed people even if they are skilled and deserving of being in a chosen role. Read: GD. Her attitude is lethargic at best, similar to her effort and performance quality on floor. Most offensive are her statements about inspiring a nation. When u declare that, it just means you have no humility and are conceited. What does she say and do when the cameras ARENT on??
Anyway, on such a small team, it will suck to have her prima Donna attitude and lacklustre sportsmanship/performance quality. Just my thoughts!

      • Gymbee Says:

I was reading the comments left by mostly italian viewers on the youtube stream. One of them said that Gabby only smiles when she’s being interviewed, and normally she looks like she really couldn’t care less. Maybe that’s just her face.

But yeah, she’s going out there representing her country, and she does that horrible lacklustre floor routine. It was embarrassing to watch.

  37. Laura Says:

Does anyone think it’s possible to have a team without GD?

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

In theory yes. She is only useful on bars and even then, depends on who else goes. But since USAG is intent on taking her–prob not.

Laurie, Maggie, Regan and even Aly could beat GD–if scoring was fair.

We also don’t yet know how Norah or Bailie look right now.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I do and if she messes up Nationals and Trials like she did last year it could happen.

      • Case Says:

Gabby is absolutely going to Rio. The media storyline will be constructed around the “duel” between her and Simone. The hype doesn’t work if Gabby doesn’t make the team, gymnastics skill be damned.

    • KG Says:

I think it is possible but very highly unlikely. since they have to select them at trials now and can’t dupe everyone behind the closed curtains of the ranch, if GD messes up big time on the big screen (a la nastia 2012) they’ll have to cut her. IMO, She would have to fall twice on bars, not have her amanar, be shaky on beam and maybe fall once, and a general lackluster floor.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I agree. It’s possible but seems unlikely. There has never been a U.S. American Cup Winner from the Olympics year who didn’t go to the Olympics unless they were boycotted lol.

But if she places 4th AA, has a fall on bars or beam and/or 4th on bars, I guess it could happen. She is already 3rd on bars so only one more person needs to out score her there. I’m really hoping for Norah to come through and save us all lol. But Gabby seems to have figured how to hit her routines, unfortunately for us.

I doubt she will have an amanar but that won’t keep her at home. Now, if Maggie doesn’t get an amanar back, that may keep her as an alternate, given how Laurie looked at Jesolo. And I don’t even like Laurie.

      • Mim Says:

I was going to say that even if GD fell or had a catastrophic trials, they love her so much that they could still put her on the team. And then I remembered Nastia. Miracles can happen.

Gabby seems to be less headcase-y now though.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If she falls apart at both or beaten by 2 other AA gymnasts besides Simone they cannot justify taking her. You know there will be specialists involved especially a bars worker. It’s possible. Sure not plausible but possible.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

In theory, 2 other AA’ers (without Simone), could beat her. Maggie, Regan, Laurie, Bailie, Aly–pick your two lol. I would add Norah because I think she will be at that level but we don’t know 4 certain.

There will def be a bars specialist. Who that is, remains to be seen, haha.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She needs to finish out of top 3 AA at both National and trials for this to be real.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

        So then it’s possible lol.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It happened at Nationals last year remember:)

      • KG Says:

I honestly think she’d have to finish out of top 5. It’s the four year fans that will throw a fit and call it racist or unfair if she doesn’t make it and still finished like 4th.

In a not completely fixed comp, it might be possible for her to finish 4th or 5th AA (after Simone, Aly, Bailie, Maggie, Ragan even? Norah?) but they won’t let that happen without GD falling a bunch.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

please stop ruining my delusions of Kitties, puppies and jelly beans🙂 By the way NO ONE Saw Atler not making 2000 or Bross not making 2012 so things happen🙂 Wish I could take credit for this thought but someone said it to me and it makes sense.

      • G Says:

That’s true about Bross and Atler but they were having bigger issues beforehand. I mean they looked like front runners in the beginning and middle of the quad but were fading by this point so close to the Olympics. I mean has there ever been anyone whose done this well (not that I personally think her gymnastics are great) just months away from trials and hasn’t made it? I’m actually asking because I have no idea lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Atler messed up the two events that would have put her on thus team regardless. If she had vault and floor she was in. Bars were her only real issue til day 2 of trials where she bombed and IMO she bombed on purpose. She can claim other wise but I think she was done.

Bross, went down to two events to stay healthy. If she had hit those 2 she would have been Kyla. Gabby has 2 AA medals that if played fairly could have been others. She needs to hit IN June. I still don’t consider her a lock. So far she has the same difficulty as her competitors. IT’S STILL A GAME. Just wait🙂

Gabby needs to hit trials and Nationals to make this team, she is no lock based on events in march where she would have lost if Maggie got to do her Amanar and Gabby wasn’t overscored.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

They’ll send GD no matter what. The fix is in. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gabby tried to petition her way onto the Olympic team if she messes up at Nationals. Just sit out at Trials.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t think they allow petitions onto the team anymore. Onto the trials–yes–but not the team. Feel free to correct me lol.

Didn’t Ashley Priess pull out in 2004? I thought she was going to make the team lol.

Gabby think she doesn’t need to upgrade and that she will be on the team, regardless. Perhaps she should keep that thinking up, while others upgrade so we can get our wish lol.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Still think no matter what GD is on this team. They will overscore her beam and vault and floor like crazy whereas Maggie and Aly can have the days of their lives yet will still be downgraded on beam and vault. Maybe floor too, who knows. It’s sucky but that’s what this is looking like.

I feel like Bailey is getting blackballed because she’s potentially in GD’s way. She has better bars, beam and floor than GD and can score better internationally but no way is Marta letting that happen. The injuries are only helping GD’s case. Doesn’t look good for Bailey.

It’s also not looking good for Aly. As you all have stated. If she doesn’t get her crap together she’ll be an alternate. Her floor is beatable now and her beam is no longer as solid (although I haven’t seen it; couldn’t watch Jesolo). But her beam is being scored less than GD’s beam. Yet for some reason I have this feeling that Marta does not want to use GD’s beam during team finals.

I wish I could see Smith and Hernandez; sounds like they will be the potential “babies” on this team (but I still only see room for one of them, not both). Sounds like they have different strengths too. But if it’s beam that US needs, I guess the favor is for Hernandez. And if Aly can’t get her crap together maybe there will be room for both. I honestly don’t know if Nichols will be on Rio either even though she deserves it…she needs to upgrade and be consistent on those upgrades and get her amanar back.

I still think it’s so unfair USAG will take GD just because she’s pro and was the former AA champ. That’s what she’s riding in on. Because this quad, none of her events are needed and she’s a mediocre AA’er, at best – although the scores don’t reflect that. However her floor is meh, her beam is good when she’s on (but again, I don’t think Marta wants to use her beam), her bars are OK but not world-class, and her vault is just a DTY.

      • G Says:

Who was it that petitioned in 1992 and got Kim Kelly replaced?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Betty Okino who actually deserved to be on the team. It’s Campi that didn’t and she petitioned too but was too hurt to compete.

      • Gymbee Says:

Maybe her reality show will distract her too much from training… here’s hoping.

      • Gymbot Says:

I know that Douglas isn’t liked and I am not saying I like her but her bars are truly world class. There is a lot lacking from her attitude and her floor routine, but she is going to rio to show he world both anyway. Injury untimely demise of reality tv are the only possible exits from the gymnastic podium.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

World class is debatable. She isn’t top 3 on any event in this Country including bars. Schields beat her til Marta whined and got her score raised then Schields messed up event finals or she would have been ahead of her.

Gabby has been given a free pass this entire last year. Everyone else has been forced to prove they are ready in every practice in every camp yet she gets a free pass and gets overscored to win AA medals. It’s not hard to hit when you know that even if you fall you still win because even with big steps you get 15.3 for your DTY even when it’s piked down. Miss a connection on beam, no one cares, full start value for you and don’t get me started on that routine she calls a floor. That lack of effort is a slap in the face to everyone else.

I will give Gabby credit for taking advantage of the free passes Marta has practically admitted she has received but it’s not fair for Aly to have to kill it every time out to even make the team while Gabby half ass’s her entire training and doesn’t have to earn a thing.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Exactly. Gabby is a nice gymnast to watch sometimes barring her personality but her bars will not win any world medals. She can’t even come top 3 in her “best” event in the US. So she’s not world class there, and that’s just my opinion you can totally disagree.

Gabby’s vault is a DTY, like anyone has that. Who cares. Won’t help Team USA unless they can’t get a 3rd amanar.

Her floor is crap, everyone knows it, but she gets a pass because she lands her tumbling runs and has decent form on her tumbling and leaps (although she’s not where she was when she was in London form-wise). That’s it.

Her beam isn’t bad, and in fact can be quite good for her nice form on tumbling (straight legs, pointed toes), but for whatever reason I feel like she won’t be a Marta pick when it comes to 3 up 3 count. However without any pressure (i.e., missed connections equals full credit) GD can pull off a good beam score. I still say her leaps have gotten worse since London.

Her bars are good, but not world class. She’s beatable there when bars are based on individual scores.

GD’s only contribution is the AA, in which there are many other great contributors there from the US. However, she is the reigning Olympic AA champ and it will be the first in a long time that a reigning champ will make a comeback for the same event. So that’s why she’s going to Rio, point blank end the period (sorry, I’m a Big Brother fan and I loved D’Vonne or however she spelled her name). Plus I just drank 3 glasses of wine.

She won’t be left behind because of this “story.” It sells, or at least the media will do their best to sell it.

The sad thing is Maggie and Aly and even Bailey have been fighting their butts off since day one and GD can just breeze in and take a spot without having to meet the same level in practice. That makes a huge difference. She’s less exhausted, there’s less pressure, and she knows she can go 80% whereas for everyone else, it’s 110%.

      • Melanie Says:

Gymbot, you’re right. When I watch Gabby, I remind myself to be objective about her gymnastics and not to judge that based on my dislike of her personality. Her bars are great. Her beam this go-round is much better than last time (Am Cup especially). Her floor is awful and vault nothing-to-write-home-about. But I think you’re definitely right.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

There was only one interview from Gabby that I have seen since her comeback that made me want to slap her.She is full of herself but she hasn’t been nearly as annoying as she was 4 years ago. Her gymnastics has nothing to do with her bad attitude or free pass but I still don’t see what is so great about her gymnastics and that includes bars. Then again I hate all the bar routines these days unless you’re Chinese.

I love Simone but she needs better flexibility in her leaps and jumps and she has no artistry to speak of. Her floor is well presented but each time she competes it I find more to dislike about everything that isn’t connected to the best tumbling this world has ever seen. I love Maggie but have commented multiple times on how her form is not really improved, she just straightens her legs and points her toes after every move so it at least looks like she is trying to improve. I like Aly but her form is a disaster. I can’t stand Laurie Hernandez on floor (overrated and posey) but no one sells the routine like she does. i can’t stand Kocian AT ALL but I have given her credit for hitting last year a million times and think she should be on this team if she gets a consistent beam routine to go with her 6.6 bars and the list goes on. The fact that anyone is implying that people at this blog don’t have the mental capacity to understand the difference between the gymnast and their personality is unfair and unfounded.

Gabby’s best chance at a medal is beam because of the way she constructed the routine where she gets a 6.2 start value even if her bogus switch ring is downgraded and that is all on the stupid code. It’s as bad as ice skating where you get credit for a triple if you rotate it even if you fall on your ass. How can you get credit for a leap that is 100% not the leap you did? It’s fucking mind blowing. This damn sport is mind blowing.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

What? I didn’t realize. You can get credit for a leap you didn’t do?

I think GD’s best chance at a medal is the team one, tee hee.

She tends to just not care after AA finals. At least that’s the way it seems. Did she medal in an event final at Jesolo?

      • Melanie Says:

GTT, hope you didn’t think I was implying that. I didn’t mean that at all. I have trouble myself separating my dislike of Gabby from the quality of her gymnastics. That’s why I have to go out of my way to remind myself to be objective!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I used to root for GD. Until she said that “we all have to deal w/disappointment” crap about Jordyn. No way jose. She shouldn’t even have made it to that AA final, yet alone be saying that about the former world champ.

I’m still mad about that and mad about how the judges scored GD on beam and floor in 2012 quals.

      • Gymbot Says:

Same her if that comment was directed at me.

On the leap business, when it is downgraded it goes from an e to a d, where as a switch leap is a c. If you are lacking only the ring or only the head release, they’ll give you a d on the technicality hat is harder than a switch. But if you show lack of both you get credited for a c leap only, which may not even count to the d score if you’ve already shown one

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I honestly just hope that this year we have a few Memmels that just kick butt and take names and the judges will have no choice but to leave GD at home.

        That’s my wish.

Aly needs to also get her crap together. She used to be the “steady one” but now she’s just a mess. From what it sounds like. But I still have faith in her.

  38. dianajc99 Says:

Any update on Carlotta? Shes a celebrity in Italy so I would assuming her injury would be big news.

  39. Ilanchik20 Says:

I didn’t follow closely back then but anyone know Meagan Browning from 2000-2003 national team. Aparently someone started her a go-fund me account to help her with drug addiction. I’m not advocating this at all, I just don’t even know her lol.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Give money to a girl on drugs? Don’t think so. Cassie Whitcomb had one of these to help pay for surgery for all her issues.I meant to link that but forgot.

They even say, if she refuses to go. Something seems strange about this.

    • Melanie Says:

I was curious, so I looked her up on YouTube.

Here’s her on floor. Some pretty hideous choreo, but I found the original Bailie Key let’s-go-swimming-on-the-floor move!

  40. Guest Says:

Mckayla loves to keep showing off her body. You can see her latest bikini selfie in IG. I just wish she can grow up her mind soon.

  41. JAS4 Says:
GTT looks like there will be a Tonya Harding movie.

  42. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Komova is going to miss Russia’s championship due to a back injury.😦
