Gabby’s beam – missed at least 3 combos. Of course those will be counted knowing these stupid judges.
Her leaps are worse than in London, too. I wonder if that’s because she grew. She almost lands on the beam with her feet apart so that the leap is not completed – if that makes sense. Like she doesn’t get enough height on her leap jumps.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

Maggie’s bars look just as good as Kocian’s – she should try and up her D score or something and get competitive there. What is Maggie’s bar D score vs. Kocian?

And can someone please post Maggie’s floor? I’m a lazy YouTube idiot.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

click on the usa-gymnastics link on the front of the blog post it’s the first video.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Maggie actually has way less leg seperations than Kocian but I am pretty sure kOCIAN HAS 6 TENTHS IN START VALUE. lAST YEAR IT WAS LIKE 6.0 OR 6.1 FOR mAGGIE AND 6.6 FOR kOCIAN. Sorry caps lock was left on.

    • Gym Obsessed Says:

You really think Maggie looked as good as Kocian on bars? I don’t really have an affinity toward either but I don’t think that’s true. Maggie looked weak in the core on her handstands and pirouettes and really labored in her swing. She has better toe point and tight legs, but the core is really obvious so I don’t think she could add more difficulty.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

You have a point about the core but Maggie’s form seems just as good if not a bit better – Kocian has flexed feet a lot and the leg separations.

I don’t understand all the bar upgrades – inbar vs. whatever else. I’m with GTT all of the bar routines are starting to look the same.

In fact, all of the events are just starting to look the same.

And the wolf turns: if you can’t do one like Teryn Humphrey just don’t do it. Sorry but Maggie’s wolf spins needs some cleanup. I won’t blame her for code whoring though.

      • aerial Says:

Kocian is a better bar worker, with greater difficulty. However, Maggie impressed me… she’s come a LONG way these past few years, really much further than anyone would ever have initially guessed, and I am super impressed. Although she’s not a personal fave, she’s won me over and improved her artistry and presentation bigtime. She deserves great things.

  3. Gymnast41 Says:

They just posted gabby’s bars routine she upgrades quite a bit. But yes Maggie looks super clean as far as bars goes…I’m surprised she isn’t going for the harder dismount. Playing it safe on all of her events it looks like, which in the end might help her in the long run

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She was very slow on all her connections and had some trouble on the low bar. Should be interesting to see if she gets all the credit for that routine if she does it like that in competition. Bars is one event I hate. Adding a stupid foot to the bar gets way too many extra points and every routine looks the same

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Maggie is not playing it safe, If anything she is being told to downgrade. Marta has control over everything and once again we get upgrades from the fave of Marta while someone else is forced to downgrade for them. How is that fair?

      • Gymnast41 Says:

I commenting something on the other post and I totally agree about it not being fair on any level. Didn’t even realize that she downgrades basically all of her routines for this meet while gabby gets the upgrade. It just all makes so much sense now.

      • exgymgurl Says:

i dont see the downgrades. between nationals and worlds last year she lost some difficulty buy compared to last years worlds shes got about 3 tenths more. If she does the wold 2.5 thats more too.

    • Gymbot Says:

Douglas moved he in bar stalder and switched a “chow” for a “chow 1/2” for one more tenth in difficulty. But that’s it for bars

Maggie seems to have changed her beam a lot but it has he same sv around 5.9. At nationals she had he full-in and the tuck 1/2. Marta made her drop both elements for a side somi and a double puke dismount for -.4 in change. Now on beam she had added the Humphrey turn +.2 net and the wolf punch tuck for .1. So she is back around the same

  4. Tortuga Says:

It’s waaaay to early to be throwing your 100% out there. I’m going to stay positive and think Maggie is saving herself for later in the season. We already knew a fix would be in for Gabby anyway. Is it fair? No, but I never tune into Scam for a well balanced competition.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

But my point is while I understand throwing it all is a questionable decision to some why is it that Gabby isn’t being told the same thing? It’s an OLYMPIC YEAR. If you can’t show your upgrades being consistent than prepare to be left behind.

I told myself months ago I am not letting this Olympic year bull shit by Marta get to me. It’s too stressful and in the end effects my life in no way at all. I’ll worry about stuff I can control and not stuff I cannot. Except for when it comes to baseball then I’ll freak out. 🙂

      • Tortuga Says:

Oh yeah I’m with you. I think they want it to look like Gabby is so close to Simone and Maggie doesn’t stand a chance. But I’m going to TRY not to get mad till we get to nationals with no amanar or upgrades from Maggie. Gabby might burn out early pushing all this so early in the season.

      • Tortuga Says:

I’m no expert but her difficulty looks the same as what she competed in team finals at worlds except the Amanar. I know she had a new dismount on beam and bars and the front with a half on beam that she took out for worlds. What am I missing?

      • Gymbot Says:

Hey tortuga, that is what was taken out. She has now added some connections and the Humphrey turn and if she competes boh wolf turns in one routine, she should have the same d score from before Marta took out her big acrobatic skills

      • Tortuga Says:

Thanks Gymbot! I couldn’t tell if she was really going to connect those wolf turns or if she just messed up the first a smidge and decided to correct it by doing another. A little code whoring eh? I suppose if Martha is going to try to hold her back on her bigger D skills then I say go for the code whoring. Every man for himself.

      • gymbot Says:

There is a precedent for multiple wolf turns. Kennedy Baker did the same thing in 2013, to increase her beam difficulty.

Her full-in dismount and tuck 1/2 looked pretty solid, so I;m hoping she throws them at classics/nationals/trials. It’s not like she ever fell on any of them last year.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Gabby might need more time to get her upgrades going, but still. Marta allowing Gabby to upgrade but downgrading Maggie? The fix is in, and it will be in all year. This is just the beginning.

Come nationals, I wouldn’t be surprised if Marta tries to pull the same crap if Gabby doesn’t have an amanar by then. Marta can’t do this to Simone but it’s all about the fight for that second AA spot, and this time around they will be sure it goes to Gabby first.

  5. Melanie Says:

Both of their vaults looked pretty crummy. Maggie had a slow DTY, and Gabby’s was very piked. I was expecting Amanars from both, though I imagine they’ve forced Maggie to downgrade to the DTY so as not to set herself apart from Gabby. Bars were pretty comparable; beam goes to Maggie, I think. Gabby apparently fell a bunch in podium training, but put together at least one routine that USAG can market to the Gabbystans. I like Maggie’s floor, though I wish they could clean up the tumbling a bit. No videos of Gabby’s floor to be seen…hmmm…

  6. Guest Says:

Shawn launched her new V-blog type website. It’s about her fashion and lifestyle. One more thing, “Shawn Johnson East” may be her future official name. 🙂
    http://shawnjohnson.com/

  7. Guest Says:

    And this. 🙂

  8. sanitynmotion Says:

Can I just say looking at Gabby’s vault in podium training…her block doesn’t get her much height. I doubt we’ll be seeing her do an amanar anytime soon.

She shouldn’t have left Chow. He was the one who got her to do the amanar.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

It’s extremely piled and slow too, so I definitely agree…it’s hard to believe it got verified at camp last year

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Did anyone watch Nastia Cup? I didn’t catch it but supposedly during the interview, Marta said that Gabby has been slacking lol.

      • exgymgurl Says:

omg i couldnt sit through jorothlisbooger and nasty pukin for that …… or could I….. BTW GTT your fave male gymnast JoHo is out for Rio with an injury

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I know I put it on a blog weeks ago. Thanks for reading 🙂

      • Gymnast41 Says:

I feel like every interview is a jab at her slacking lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yet ahe still takes her to every meet and nmkeys her do AA which just let’s Gabby slack more. Wh y work hard when you don’t have too

  9. Gymnast41 Says:

When you forget the time the meet was and turn it on to find out that halfway through you know who was .8 ahead of Maggie…*moves on to next activity*

  10. Ilanchik20 Says:

Gabby’s vault. This got 15.1. Like wtf.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/usagym/status/706181764448911360

  11. dianajc99 Says:

why r u not live blogging this crap?? I want to bitch about GD

    somebody bitch with me!!

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I’ll bitch with you. That vault score is ridiculous. And it’s higher than Maggie’s.

And then GD gets 15.233 on bars. Ugh.

      • Laura Says:

Agreed, she had no block and she piked down at the end. Maggie had a much better block, height, distance, yes her legs weren’t as clean and she didn’t stick…but Gabby’s score was too high.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Vault scores were overscored for both but Maggie was better.

I can’t imagine GD competing an amanar within 5 months after a DTY like that. Maggie–maybe.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Already opened the wine bottle after that bars score lol

  12. Tortuga Says:

Those bars scores are nuts! There’s no way now unless Gabby falls on beam. And what was up with the vault score? Ugh, I already knew it was fix but people at home are being brainwashed into thinking Maggie stands no chance when she’s capable of so much more.

  13. dianajc99 Says:

Would It be rude for me to do a Fall dance for Gabby on beam??

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m with you. If Maggie is scored this way for the remainder of the season to Rio, she will be an alternate.

      • Laura Says:

Who would be on your team? Do you think a team of Simone, Gabby, Maggie, Aly, and Madison/Norah could work? Gabby can be great when she’s on, but she’s still too risk for me on BB, and Maggie/aly/simone are the best FX workers we have. Gabby won’t be the strongest on vault if Aly/Simone/Maggie have amanars and with her lack of block, I don’t see her getting her amanar back. So, she’s really only useful on UB in this team situation.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Well. In a perfect world, I would leave Gabby at home and take both Norah and Kocian but since that won’t happen. And if no Maggie.

I could also see Simone, Gabby, Aly, Skinner, Norah/Kocian

Or Simone, Gabby, Aly, Kocian, Regan

      • Tortuga Says:

I’ve been thinking of that team combo too. Maggie may make the Olympic team but not get to do AA. Aly too. I think Aly and Maggie will be fighting to the death for a possible AA spot.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

at least the score for beam was pretty reasonable for those connections..

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

It looks reasonable. I need to see Maggie’s beam before confirming that though lol

  14. dianajc99 Says:

    Dam..Didn’t work

  15. dianajc99 Says:

    WOW..the judges did there job.

  16. dianajc99 Says:

    nice job for maggie

  17. Ilanchik20 Says:

I think my ideal team right now is Simone, Aly, Maggie, Kocian and Norah

I could also see Key instead of Maggie.

But if they are taking Maggie for vault/floor, they can also take Skinner (I can’t believe I just said that)

But there is no way Gabby stays home after this craziness at Scam.

  18. Ilanchik20 Says:

I still think Maggie a great alternate unfortunately. Especially with how she is being scored in comparison to Gabby.

  19. Laura Says:

Is there any talk on Aly having a second vault? Would increase Maggie’s chances of being named? I don’t think maggie has a second vault

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

There was some gossip that Aly was training a second vault (Rudi) when she first come back. But since she chose to focus on AA and improving that beam (hopefully), I’m guessing no 2nd vault anymore.

If Aly still has her amanar, then she’ll be in an even better shape since there is no way Gabby can compete one with how her block looks now. Maggie–maybe.

There aren’t as many amanars this time around.

      • Laura Says:

Do any of the upcoming juniors, who just turned senior this year have the potential for an amanar?

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Laurie said she is not upgrading vault. Regan has iffy DTY. The rest are the the same with their dty’s.

Norah may pull it a Chowmanar lol

        But otherwise no.

  20. Ilanchik20 Says:

15.2 on floor for Maggie, really. (Out of 6.3)

All the tumbles were iffy and super low dismount.

    Scam it is, haha.

  21. Dee Says:

Ugh just finished watching. Could we have seen Ellie blacks floor instead of a close up of Donnell squinting at the score board?

Every year this meet makes me crazy. SCAM indeed. This was Maggie’s meet…but we all knew the fix was in.

My biggest peeve about gabby is her level 10 floor routines beating people like Maggie. FFS I hate double tucks at elite level. Also, there are two parts of her floor where she literally stands there for several moments and another where she literally lies on the floor. Why does this score even half as well as it does?! Maggie moved the entire time.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Reading these comments verifies a) Gabby will be going to Rio and b) Gabby will be given that AA spot. If I were Aly I’d train that second vault. She won’t have much of a chance to compete in the AA again.

      • Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

If I were Aly, I’d say give up on bars. Work on making that Amanar consistent, work on execution on beam and floor. Marta will not take her to Rio for a 15.2 on an Amanar and a 14.2 on beam.

  22. Mim Says:

Not even going to bother watching this competition, it just sounds way too frustrating. The Gabby favouritism, while not Gabby’s fault, just makes me so mad and I really don’t want her on the Rio team as a result.

Really curious to see how Maggie’s coaches deal with things this year. I suspect that they won’t rock the boat to ensure Maggie gets on the team in any capacity but I hope they are really advocating for her. I will be so sad if USAG continue to screw her over.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I hope Maggie’s coaching is facilitating this Marta crap but honestly since she is fairly new, as far too elites go, u doubt it.

I hope Maggie doesn’t get screwed but I feel like even if she makes it to Rio, Marta won’t let her do AA in Quals.

But I also wouldn’t be all too surprised if she ends up being an alternate. An AA alternate needs to be someone you can plug anywhere (that’s what it seems Marta goes for normally) and unfortunately the way Maggie been is being scored, it looks like she’s fit that better than Aly. Bailie too.

Some idiot posted on Twitter today that we don’t need Aly’s beam anymore because we got Gabby. LOL

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Aly is losing her spot to Maggie tho. The same Amanar and Maggie better on bars and same as Aly on floor. I don’t know. I guess we will see what Mihai pulls out of his trick book come Nationals.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Yeah, I won’t say Aly is out till I see her at Nationaks. And Jesolo, which I’m sure she’s going to.

The problem is that Maggie makes a my her better alternate than Aly. Plus I fully expect a much improved beam from Aly come nationals.

Also, given how crappy these two DTY’s looked, I wonder if Marta is going to not let Maggie compete one at Nationals so she can take Aly and gabby. We’ll see, I guess.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I firmly believe Marta made Maggie skip her Amanar for Gabby and I don’t care if anyone says differently. It’s the only thing that makes sense. Why now all of a sudden would Maggie be having trouble and what good does it do her to not compete it? I told myself to just forget the shit Marta pulls but this is something she would do. She can’t be trusted and add that Simone was not sent to the Cup this year you know something is up.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I agree. But at the same time, that DTY wasn’t the greatest. I don’t know what’s that about.

Gabby DTY is even crispier, even though she scored more than GD.

If Marta doesn’t let Maggie compete her amanar come nationals, Marta will be out.

I kind of wonder if Marta will make Maggie compete a DTY to make sure Gabby is 2nd at trials.

I say Simone let’s Maggie beat her and get 1st. 1st place guarantees the Olympic team spot and Simone will go regardless lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I remember a blog I wrote last year about being stressed over what was gong on and this year that stress has just turned into me being bored. Marta’s games have finally made me reach the point I don’t care.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kind of makes me wonder if they are trying to faze out Aly. I didn’t watch it only saw Gabby’s VT and bars and think I will follow your suit and just not bother. I am the worst blogger ever I jumped at the opportunity to go out with my nieces today to avoid this meet and it looks like I made the right decision. Looks good for Maggie that she would have won if she had her Amanar which she suspiciously all of a sudden wasn’t allowed to compete. As bad as Aly’s has been in the past she got to keep hers. Interesting huh…

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Yeah even without Maggie’s nationals routines she would’ve been straight for beating GD even without her highest execution. Like you said, my concern right now is Aly competing with Maggie for a spot now and not GD. Basically Marta’s ploy is to reward Maggie for having such a great season last year but to reward GD for being the Olympic AA champion. And as messed up as this is, this is what the media would want to see. The Olympic champion still “on top” (bunch of BS), and the newcomer “rock” of the team (Maggie) and of course the queen, simone. After what I saw with this meet, I just have to hope that Aly comes out with a vengeance after worlds and kills it, and I have the utmost belief she will do it. Maggie needs to upgrade with everything she’s capable of doing consistently (despite Marta’s claims) and we might just see her get the results she deserves. But regardless, I don’t think anything could happen at this point getting GD off of this Olympic team…unless Laurie, ragan, or Norah absolutely kills it or bailie suddenly pulls a 2012 GD, but realistically I don’t see any of this happening…sigh.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Maggie needs her amanar. Without it, things will be very iffy, especially if Aly has one and Gabby doesn’t.

I think Aly will come strong. She is usually better when she is not on top. I also think Mihai is pacing her as I’m sure he learned from Asac’s experience.

But without an amanar, Maggie, Bailie, Laurie and Jaz will be on a similar level.

My hope is that Gabby places 3rd AA and then 4th bars (Kocian, Locklear and Norah beating her). That’s kind of possible, right? In that scenario, Marta will have some explaining to do to get her on a team lol.

      • Laura Says:

I agree with you guys. I’m hoping that they are easing Maggie back into her full routines and do not want her to get injured or peak too early in the season and the amanar will come back in the summer. If Aly and Maggie both get their amanars back and Aly truly has upgraded her bars, we may see them 2nd and 3rd in the all-around? At least, that’s what I will hope for. And yes, Madison, Ashton, and Norah all have the capability of being higher than GD on bars…but, this meet does show that she is capable of hitting when it counts…at least this time.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Why do people think Norah has this huge potential on bars? I don’t remember seeing it but I’ve been bored with this sport for awhile.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Norah has pretty good grip swing. The last time she competed she had s 5.7 D but she was a junior then. She has shown some mixed grip upgrades so I think she’ll have a significantly higher D and her execution is way better than Gabby. From the upgrades that’s been flowing around, she has very Chinese bars, haha. Plus Norah has a big dismount–the same one Shawn did.

My hope is that Gabby places 4th on bars, haha. Preferably behind Norah. That would be justice lol

  23. aerial Says:

Frig man. I hate that GD blows in rehearsals, walks through her routines in training, and then can go out there and be that solid. This means she deserves to be on the team competing like that, and I don’t want that. I would be so happy with a GD-less Olympic team, and she’s making it very hard for my wish to come true.

And, maybe because I harbor these feelings, whenever she opens her mouth no matter what she says, I basically want to grind my teeth. She’s so full of herself and thinks everyone loves her. Maybe all the eleven year olds at this meet did, but I can’t stand her interviews.

I was impressed by Maggie. She has come so far over the years. I really enjoyed her floor. Girl is doing more than expected and better than I would have predicted for her as an athlete. She doesn’t have star power, but she’s clean and consistent.

It’s going to be verrrrrrrry interesting to see what they do with AAers and specialists… a couple very deserving peeps are gonna be in the dust.

Also, NBC really is the No Brains Channel as Vanessa Atler dubbed them years ago. I always forget how mad I get about the coverage. A couple years ago they didn’t show a single routine of the bronze medalist. Today, one routine of Ellie Black’s and come the conclusion of the competition, don’t even show final results or mention the Canadian winning bronze. Look beyond yourselves, guys… I know that’s not your thing but seriously, in the name of sportsmanship.

    • dianajc99 Says:

This year USA gymnastics had the international feed live on youtube.. All routines no commentary

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

You are right and that’s what kills me. Gabby slacks in training. Marta thinks Gabby slacks in training. So Marta gives her an assignment to motivate her to be in shape. Like, really? Ugh.

I think she does as well as she does is because she never over exerts herself in training like others. I don’t know how she has become consistent but ugh. I guess my only hope is that she gets out scored on bars lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

IMO Marta was forced to give Gabby the Am Cup and leave Simone at home. There is no reason Marta needs Simone not to be the face of the sport she has to fall 3 times to lose that AA.What motive is there for making Gabby the face of the sport when she has no shot at beating Simone. This sounds like Steve to me.

      • gia20 Says:

You know what? It drives me crazy too. That everybody else has to prove themselves every freaking day but Gabby gets to slack and be lazy and save her body because she knows Marta will back her up. Ithink Marta bitches about Gabby slacking during training just for the drama.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

But that is one up for them because usually they don’t mention the Canadians and it was a huge running joke for years.lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta is being forced to take her you can tell by how she has to give her these competitions like Am Cup yet she still talks about how lazy she is. Steve Penny is 70% to blame for all of this and that is probably why Marta is retiring. Even she is fed up.lol Simone not being at the scam cup during an Olympic years makes no sense.

  24. dianajc99 Says:

  25. gymtruthteller Says:

For anyone that cares Kyla’s retirement doubled the people looking at this blog over this scam cup.

  26. Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t know the code as well but what do you guys think about this?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Usa gym knows this code is so messed up that the can cheat in favor of whom they want to win and the majority of people won’t be able to figure it out. That blogger needs to send the break down to usa gym and ask them if they cheated on purpose or they are so damn inept they don’t know how to do their job. Worded just like I worded it 😉
