Mikulak wins Winter cup

I don’t know about you people but I could see Flavia getting the gold medal on beam at the next Olympics if she hits this routine in her home Country. I really don’t see the judges letting Simone win 3 of 4 event final gold medals at the Olympics. Not a big fan of the floor tho I am sure all the fans that love the cute little gymnasts will fondly remember the Moceanu temper tantrum routine of the 96 Olympics but homey don’t play that here.

I love Flavia! I need her to get a beam medal. I don’t know about gold but some other color will do too. She is still super inconsistent though. But if she hits in Quals and finals–it could get interesting.

I want Norah to get beam gold so I’m biased lol. Yes, I know–she needs to make the team first, haha.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Wow I really love this routine! And flavia is my ideal gymnast as far as power/artistry goes though. Her lines are to die for. But yes I agree, incredibly inconsistent, but if she gets it together she may actually medal and I know it would be huge for Brazil to medal in rio. Haha I’m a Norah stan too, so deep down hopefully our dream will come alive🙂

      • tulip Says:

You can really see the influence of Alexandrov on her execution. Gorgeous.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

The name Flavia reminds me of the coffee maker in competition with Keurig. Yes this comment has no means to be here but I’m having insomnia and this was the best I could come up with.

  3. RocĂo MartĂnez LĂłpez Says:

Oksana Chusovitina was effing awesome. 40 years old and still winning. She should have some kind of tribute paid to her or an award named after her or something. “Chusovita award for awesomeness in the field of Artistic Gymnastics”. That would be cool.

    • tulip Says:

She is a rockstar! Never been a fan of her gymnastics but I respect her to the ends of the earth. She represents all that is great about gymnastics. Nelli Kim, Bruno, Nastia, Marta and others should take note. You can be successful through fair play.

  4. gymbot Says:

If the judges conspire to fix an event for Brazil, my bet is that it will be for Arthur Zanetti on rings. I hope Simone doesn’t give them the wiggle room to take away her medals.

  5. Bess Says:

    Oh Kyla! Enjoy UCLA….

  6. Gymnast41 Says:

So…my heart has dropped for Kyla. Wow. Can’t believe it

    • gymbot Says:

Nooo but a gem she’ll be at UCLA

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Kyla, Kyla…the writing has been on the wall for this for a while. Honestly after she dropped out of the camps for last Worlds deep down I knew that was the beginning of the end. Kyla’s not the type to drop out of camp and then go for it the next year. She just knew it wasn’t going to happen, and after seeing GD and Aly coming back there’s no way. She’d have to hope for a specialist spot again, and on top of that you have Locklear and Kocian (winning gold at Worlds) and just the politics in and of itself…Kyla is making the right decision for herself, even though we as fans hate to see it.

She got what she wanted though – she was able to continue her elite career after the Olympics and go to Worlds twice and win AA medals in both, even though she was going through injuries and growth spurts. That says a lot. I think she really wanted that “worlds” exposure after the Olympics and she got the best of both worlds. Honestly her career is more impressive than most.

And she’ll probably be stunning at UCLA. I hope she keeps her lines and doesn’t do that “nay nay” sh*t.

Oh Kyla! Came here to post as you guys are the only ones that will understand my mixed feelings. So sad to see her go. But I am happy she sees the writing on the wall and that she won’t put her body through Martha’s camps or mind games anymore.

  10. Tortuga Says:

Is it weird that I’m tearing up right now? Ugh, I know it’s for the best. I didn’t want to see her have another rough season or worse have a great season and still get passed over. I know she will be happier at UCLA but God I there’s just no one else with her lines. We’ve lost one of my favorites.

  11. H Says:

I hope Ross will enjoy UCLA.
I am looking forward to see her shine there.

  12. Aerial Says:

I’m surprised it’s taken this long after her showings last year and the obviously lesser time spent in the gym. She never crossed my mind as a realistic candidate for Rio for quite awhile now. However I really give her credit for hanging in there and continuing to assess none the less. For the girl that didn’t even do the full post-London tour or all the appearances to keep training, who kept showing up as second best in the world even when injured and growing, the girl who never needed or wanted any attention, and with Raisman and GD (unfortunately) back in the mix, you do feel sad that her body and ability to perform skills kinda gave out and transformed the way it did. She is a class act, and no doubt will be a glorious addition to UCLA.

  13. Case Says:

Farewell Kyla. She will shine brightly at UCLA and will have Jordyn to lean on. A fantastic gymnast with plenty of awards and accolades to show for her efforts.

  14. JK Says:

I’m sad to hear this. I really wanted Kyla to make the Rio team. Thanks Marta. Sorry, but I can’t help but blame her.

Good luck at ucla. Can’t wait to see you kill it in ncaa next year.

  15. exgymgurl Says:

She probably wants to enter UCLA spring ( starts end of March) and summer quarter to start getting ahead. This really helps for Fall when gymnastics training starts intensly. Summer training is a lot for the freshman also.

I thought when I saw her at one of the last home meets that she was done, I think shes been done mentally for a while, since she didn’t get into Stanford shes a different person mentally. But after watching UCLA this weekend with so many injuries, and with Macy Toronjo redshirting, I was wondering what her conversations with Ms Val were like? Seeing how much fun Katelyn Ohashi is having really makes you think, because she was miserable as an elite.

She was at the last camp I wonder if Marta and Rhonda had a come to Jesus moment with her, or if it was just you know I’m needed at UCLA and I’m kind of not needed on the national team.. You see girls like EBee that have moved on and Jordyn and Sarah F and McKayla, Had to have an impact on her. I don’t know that at 20 I would want to go through the Marta gauntlet.

That being said, I think either Gabby or Aly gets injured before Rio, I think it is one of them but not both. I think Simone is a lock, and there is a wide open space for beam / bars.

Those who will not be on the team are
anyone who went to Pan Ams

    Those who are locks are

Those who are competing for the other four spots

    Those who will get broken
Douglas / Raisman ( one of them)
    Kocian ( on floor)

So interesting Aly has two tweets about missing kyla to gabbys zero

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I think this (Kyla leaving) really helps Key. She’s basically better on bars than GD and has a decent beam too.

I think you’re right someone will be injured. Probably not GD, because it appears they are all protecting her (letting her train less intense than the others) – at least, I thought that was the case at the last World’s…

    • tulip Says:

Good point about the Gabby tweets. Gabby has only ever been about Gabby so not a surprise. Hoped she’d grow up a little but with that mom of hers, it’s always been a long shot.

    • Cupquaked Says:

Is Laurie going to Pan Am’s? I think she could be a contender. She is the junior national champion. She’ll at least be at trials if she does well at the classic and nationals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She needs upgrades or she won’t be around but she is a good gymnast who if she upgrades will fight for the second AA spot . Marta loves her but she doesn’t stand put on any event even if hwr bar scores suggest other wise. We have Simone and then we have Aly, Gabby. Laurie, Bailie and someone I am forgetting fighting for the 2nd AA spot. I did not include Jazz because I find her unwatchable and think real judges will hate her.

Rien has been banned. You see Rien is stupid and made the mistake of posting under 2 names and two e-mail addresses and the same IP address. Rien posted as itself and then Natalie and you know what Natalie had to say? ” but not great. I agree with Rien ……” Now when you post with weeks or months in between you might forget and use a new name but when you do it within a day and are dumb enough to agree with someone who came ut of no where I check IP addresses🙂

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Right about Kyla being boring? I didn’t like Rien’s ‘tude, it was kind of pissing me off.🙂

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s always a dead give away when you start posting with an attitude and the IP address address has never existed before. I always keep tight reign on IP addresses and some people are too stupid for words:)

Re: the IP addresses… I guess you figured out i moved lol
