Am I the only one here who likes Mykayla Skinner?

I want her to succeed in gymnastics because I know people hate her for the wrong reasons. And I’m the type who like to rub success in the hater’s face.

Anyway, I know GTT loves it when people derail her post. sorry.

“Freshman gymnast Katelyn Ohashi diagnosed with sternal fracture

Standout freshman gymnast Katelyn Ohashi was diagnosed Friday with a small sternal fracture, almost a week after a faulty balance beam cap caused her to fall dangerously on her neck and upper back during a dismount…”

    • gymtruthteller Says:

People derail all my I am used to it plus I don’t blog every day so derail away

    • dianajc99 Says:

I dont think it was equipment failure. Those caps are designed to come off.Even if it stayed on she only had toes on and wouldn’t have got a good punch anyway.

  2. laura Says:

That was such a scary fall…so glad that she is relatively uninjured.

    • Tortuga Says:

Ohashi has such terrible luck. She worked so hard to come back from her injuries because she wanted to compete for college so bad. Then gets injured from an equipment malfunction in the first month of competition. That’s just ludicrous!

  3. Mimi Says:

Mykayla’s new floor music is one billion times better than last year’s mess. On a personal level I think she’s a bit nuts but I kinda can’t help but like the gymnasts that everyone hates haha.

I somehow missed Katelyn’s fall off beam. The lawyer in me wants to know if she has recourse due to the faulty equipment. Poor thing.

    • Katie Says:

100% no. Athletes everywhere sign extremely comprehensive hold harmless agreements that includes death for every club/team/school they play for.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah but if the negligence is obvious a jury might not care about that sort of contract.

  4. sanitynmotion Says:

I like the music a lot but I still find her tumbling very sloppy and even her dance elements are either not fully completed or just very off form wise. She always looks like she’s so rushed.

    • G Says:

Yeah I’m with you, I just can’t get behind it. I don’t go for big tumbling if it’s not going to be done right and the dance just doesn’t work. I admire that Skinner is a hard worker and isn’t giving up and what not, but I just don’t like her gymnastics, never have.

  5. Lauren H Says:

The music is definitely better than last year’s, but there’s just a lot of recycled Bond routine choreography here, and I’m not crazy about that. Hopefully some of that will change later in the year.

  6. Melanie Says:

The first half of the routine is very McKayla Maroney-esque. I guess it’s better than her 2015 routine, but I liked her 2014 routine better. The jazzy style was good for her.

  7. exgymgurl Says:

i can hardly wait to see bailie key and if she has another hunger games floor routine cue sarcasm

  8. Gym Obsessed Says:

I don’t know… I just can’t get behind her. I don’t hate her and I can see the appeal of the difficulty she throws but man, a) she says ignorant statements, b) she seems super full of herself and c) she needs to clean up what she’s doing and stop doing new tricks!!

  9. Tortuga Says:

I think she’s made a lot of improvements and the music is 1000x better. But she’s still not one of my favorites for Rio. With only 5 members there’s just not enough room at the top. You still have gymnasts like Bailie who have high difficulty AND beautiful execution fighting to be at the top and struggling to get there. Which reminds me of how Nica was so low balled. She was such a beautiful elite gymnast with lots of potential. What does Marta have against Kim’s athletes? Other than Ragan?

    • G Says:

Ugh yes, poor Nica! She had such a beautiful beam set and so much potential. Is she just doing level 10 now? I know she competed with Simone’s sister a few weeks ago.

      • Tortuga Says:

Well she competed as level 10 at Lengends but I’m not sure if she is planning on staying level 10 or moving back into elite. I think she knows Marta wants nothing to do with her so why stress her body so much before college?

      • exgymgurl Says:

I think its funny how if marta wants nothing to do with you your elite career is over. I wonder if Rhonda Faehn will be the same, or if she will just tell elites look, this is who we ideally will take to the olympics. These are the backup people. If your not happy with that open the discussion to see what you need to do to be on a different list and do it or go have fun in NCAA gymnastics

  10. exgymgurl Says:

Right now the short list for Rio is gabby, aly, simone, maggie. Three out of four of them will be on the team. The other two spots will go to Kyla, Bailie, Baumann, Kocian, Laurie, Norah. Skinner and brenna and nia are banished to world cups. Jazzy, Meals, Rachel, and desch will not go anywhere except NCAA. Im more interested in who Marta sends to Pac Rims than anything else. My guess for pac rims is simone, aly, kyla norah laurie bailie if she goes all seniors because she can to make them fight a death match.

    • Tortuga Says:

Don’t forget Ragan Smith. Marta loves her, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s way up there this year.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I have to wonder if Marta is saving Ragan to be the next quad’s “superstar,” like Simone this quad. Although Ragan doesn’t seem to be as dominant in the sport.

This Olympics will likely be treated as Marta’s “swan song” anyways. I think she’ll go out when the US is crazy dominant, so that she will hope in the future (when she’s croaked and likely the US maybe won’t be as dominant anymore due to normal cyclical reasons), people will cite that they need another Marta because she ran the sport so well and look all the gold medals they produced and now she’s gone and wah wah the US will never be the same caliber again.

Which we all know is BS. Marta is just lucky the other countries suck so much.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Unless Regan gets a bar routine in the 6.6 range I don’t think her beam and floor are enough to make this team.

  11. gymtruthteller Says:

Read somewhere Izbaza is out. Forgot to check the date to make sure it was 2016 news and now can’t find the article

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I saw that somewhere too but can’t remember. In any case, Romania needs to get their crap together.

I feel like this Olympics will be somewhat boring in gymnastics. The US is just way too dominant and the other countries don’t have the resources or means to keep up. Or their federations are just too corrupt.

    • exgymgurl Says:

its true, romanian news service yesterday. shed have to do bars and cannot. I think shes way more injured or something….I might put Ragan on the list, not likely though…the only even remotely fun game is if theres a plane crash injuring Aly simone gabby kyla maggie and kocian and baumann and none of them can compete who are the replacement athletes. Steve Penny Marta Bella snd Rhonda are all on that plane leaving luann peszeck steve rybacki and taryn humohrey in charge. Who is the team at that point?

      • gymbot Says:

Simone Biles is a national treasure, I hope she never gets on that plane

    • exgymgurl Says:

  12. Tortuga Says:

Damn, guess we know who the Steve and the media want on the Olympic team. It’s not the exact team I would pick.

    • gymbot Says:

No one lists Nastia Liukin as a role model. Gabby lists her mom, Aly lists the 1996 team, Skinner lists Shawn Johnson, Biles lists the 2012 team as well as Shawn and Alicia, and nobody bothered to ask Kocian or she didn’t answer. Would have thought Nastia, for her gym, or Khorkina, for her borrowed floor exercise.

      • Tortuga Says:

I watched an interview of Ohashi for UCLA yesterday, and they asked the other gymnasts who their role model was and they answered but not Ohashi. I bet all the WOGA girls are like I’m not answering that question because if I don’t say Nastia she will hunt me down and kill me! Lol!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby’s influence is the welfare mom that didn’t pay her

      • gymbot Says:

Her mom kept everyone together, fairly

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She taught he daughter how to steal and lie and take advantage of people. Yep class act by mom. If Gabby had any morals she would have paid back her gym but she didn’t. That family should be ashamed of themselves but they aren’t and that says it all. Sorry but Gabby is as bad as her mother.

      • Guest Says:

It is really weird that only Kocian didn’t mention who her role model is. And it just reminded us that she is training in WOGA, hmm…

      • gymbot Says:

Right GTT, her role model is her mother, who only somewhat kept her family together. I feel bad for Gabby at times, she has no role model basically. It’s not hard to then imagine that her behavior is poorly modeled.

    • Gymbee Says:

Gabby still seems sooo “forced” like she’s prepared a script that she tries to make seem natural. “I never thought about retiring or giving up the sport of gymnastics”.

      It’s so exciting, can’t believe it’s finally 2016!!

    • fatam Says:

Why the hell is Gabby in the middle of the group? Simone should be the one in the front row middle.

    • KG Says:

Well we knew it would likely be Simone, GD, and Aly… I’m honestly not that surprised about Skinner anymore. IMO they’ve tagged her as the new Maroney, photogenic and a bit ditzy. She adds a vault and floor I guess. Kocian is Woga and bars, and they can now tout her four way gold medal as a world champ thing… I’m gutted for Maggie if she doesn’t make it, but I’m not surprised on that one either. Aly is a brilliant and legitimate spokeswoman (especially when compared to, say, GD or Nastia). GD was probably always going to make it and since she legitimately had a comeback, it is inevitable. and Simone is queen, of course. Maggie, Bailie, and maybe Baumann or a bars specialist could make logical alternates. Though I think that’s really tough for Maggie and bailie whom I feel also deserve it. Five is just such a small number.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I agree with everything. I still think Norah can make it, especially if GD is on a team because we need another very good beamer. So in my prediction it’s Simone, GD, Aly, Norah and either Kocian for bars or Maggie/Skinner for vault/floor. I’m not really a fan of Maggie but I’d go with Maggie to give Simone a bars break during TF.

  13. exgymgurl Says:

    OMG GA Gymdogs beat FL!!!!!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Florida counted a fall on beam.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

yep I was at that meet. Watching florida choke was quite interesting to say the least lol

      • exgymgurl Says:

I thought this was actually fairly scored also. both teams counted a fall on beam, and georgia won it on floor. Bridgey bailed on this meet because apparenlt shes been sick or something all year and told the coaches she didnt feel good after bars. I love the gym dogs but look at the difference between bridgey and sloan….. Sloan has a massive leg cramp on floor and wills her way through beam, she looks angry. Bridgey just tells her coaches she cant do floor…

      • Gymnast41 Says:

I totally agree. The entire meet I was actually shocked by how fairly Florida was (finally) being scored.
