Happy Thanksgiving- Hum bug

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from the US. Sure this Holiday is actually a celebration of stealing the Indians land but hey I keep getting told I have a lot to be thankful for so why not let the delusional celebrate.

Someone who posts at this blog and I have a very unique way of looking at being thankful for what we have and she sent me this tweet by Pua Hall who kind of competes for UCLA gymnastics and it just pretty much sums up why I hate this Holiday so much.

I am supposed to be thankful for what I have. Great I have the minimum you need to survive but I am supposed to accept that because it’s whats meant to be. To hell with that.

I find it HIGHLY offensive that this is all I deserve.

So yeah I guess this means I am happy I have a roof over my head, a new job where I don’t want to slit my wrists every morning when I walk out the door to the train station and yes it’s more then some people have but it doesn’t mean I don’t or should not deserve more but according to Pua’s tweet no one deserves more than they have.

Great to hear. Sorry homeless people living under the bridge on the way from the train to Fenway be happy you have that bridge to sleep under because not only is it what you deserve but some people don’t have that bridge over their heads.

Whatever………….. Stupid Holiday.

Is Shawn releasing her new book next year? I saw this site.

    • gymnerd Says:

I’ll probably order the book on my Kindle when the time comes. :# That being said, I’m starting to feel sort of sorry for Shawn and irritated by her at the same time. It seems like she’s trying anything and everything to stay relevant and in the spotlight, like she has no idea what to do with her life rather than Being A Celebrity. Sad….

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That’s exactly it. She tried college and it wasn’t headlining her onto the next reality show so she is now marrying her boyfriend (I think it’s a bit young, but that’s just me) and promoting the crap out of that event. Next thing you know she’ll either have a baby and promote the crap out of that, or…I honestly don’t know. Her time is over and she needs to move on with her life. Nastia too.
2008 was very long ago, and USA gymnastics is now being headlined/showcased by the most decorated female ever. If Simone wins the Olympics too after winning Words 3x in a row ALL of these gals – Carly, Nastia, Gabby…will be irrelevant compared to what Simone was able to do. Maybe Shawn sees the writing on the wall and realizes this is her last shot at capitalizing on her gymnastics fame.

      • Guest Says:

Maybe her gymnastics career is over, but it doesn’t mean she can’t start her new celebrity career in other areas. Getting married at 24 is not very young IMO comparing with traditional Mormon familes.

Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn) has finished his/her Olympic since 1976 but is still active in spotlight with his/her soap-opera like family no matter how some people think the family is overhyped.

Shawn is still working with Nike, sponsored to run 1/2 marathon, and promote fitness/health through her TBD website. I would rather see her staying active in a long future with her shining personality rather than unlikeable one like Nastia/GD.

  2. Exgymgurl Says:

at least shawn has a real publisher. It looks like a YA series…. I wonder if Lauren Hopkins knows about this conisdering shes got a deal for a YA series on gymnastics

    • Ss Says:

I think Lauren’s book is being released next week, she keeps posting on Twitter about it, so I doubt they will compete that much with each other. Unfortunately I don’t think there is that much of a market for YA gymnastics novels but who knows.

  3. Lithi Says:

Just a thought…I would not put it past Nastia to try and call the officiant for Shawn’s wedding on the big day, try to impersonate Shawn and say the wedding was cancelled. I’ve heard of this happening before, gotta wonder how our Princess will try to upstage this.

  4. Exgymgurl Says:

That would make a great MIOBI episode. Clearly the white dress will surpass the pink scrunchie on that day. I doubt Nastia will be anywhere near where she can make shawn diarhea protein shakes or anything else that day.

  5. Gymbot Says:

Well even if it goes against the mood of the blog post, I am thankful for the blog – seriously. Pua’s quote ignores a lot, including the very current refugee crisis, let alone the victims of every natural disaster each week or the baby girl whose police officer-mother was just killed by a drunk driver hit and run…. But posting relatively thoughtless motivational quotes as a way to say “hey, everybody look – I am leading a satisfactory life!” Is the norm. This is why I don’t have social media

  6. Gym Obsessed Says:

I’m sorry that life is leaving a lot to be desired for you these days. I have to confess that I’m one of those thoughtless people who has said things like “there is lots to be thankful for on this holiday,” so it’s good to be reminded that there are different perspectives and that blanket statements can be offensive. (Not saying that my life is perfect or that I have it lined up to where I want it to be – I don’t.) Anyways – as Gymbot says, I’m thankful for your blog.

    • Lithi Says:

Yeah, I’m actually doing okay. I was thinking about the refugees and the victims of Paris and those poor girls being gang-raped in India and being very grateful for where I am at this time.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know, right? We all have something to be thankful for. Blanket statements are very commonplace anymore and to me, I feel like social media is totally over-used and over-abused.

I have this theory that whoever posts on social media more than once a day deep down is either unhappy or lonely. Even once a day seems like a lot. But that’s just me.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s not even so much that I am unhappy with my life. It’s the ideas that this is all that is deserved. The be happy with what you have it could be worse. Yes it could be but it could be better.

I am just ready for 2015 to go away and 2016 to be better.

      • Gym Obsessed Says:

Or the idea that if something bad is going on that that’s what is deserved – that is totally ridiculous. Cheers to 2016… I’m ready for it!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am ready for 2016 personally but not sure I am prepared fr the lympic year.

I had a dream I met Bela and Marta last night, we were passing eachother in line at Starbucks and Bela was delighted with me that I went the right way so as to avoid bumping into him. He even patted me on the back and said good girl. I felt so proud to have enough coordination and common sense to stay out of his way Looking back this morning Im thinking it was a really stupid dream. But where else would I share this…???

I like Rachels work. A 1 1/2 w/ loso will be a great ncaa tumbling pass. Im sorry she just looks so NCAA at this point. Sad. Norahs video is blocked šŸ˜¦ sad. I dont see amanars or anything that makes any of them rio relevant

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree. Her feet are heavily bandaged. I can’t imagine she’d survive Marta’s death camps.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

After a point, Im not sure why any of them bother. I mean honestly do they think some how the US will field two teams for Rio? Youve got your NCAA scholarship locked down. Just go do L10 enjoy your life like Katelyn Ohashi and EBee did…. I wish Kyla would do that, she just doesnt seem relevant in the RIo conversation either. As much as I want her to be šŸ˜¦

      • gymtruthteller Says:

If you mean Kyla staying elite and being a bars/beam specialist is actually good for her plus she can back up floor and vault if needed. You saw Worlds judging on beam. Not that Olympics will be that way but Kyla needs her 6.0 start value on beam and a bar routine at 6.4 and she is in the mix. Marta knows when it comes down to it Kyla can be trusted and of all the bars/ beam people Kyla is closest to being equal on both bars and beam. Kocian and Ashton are literally uselss on beam. Norah is great on beam but her bars is blah (waiting on the Chow Olympic year magic) World convinced me more than ever that Kyla is not dead.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree- and Worlds judges love Kyla. Kyla just needs to bring back her confidence and her 6+ start values to those two events. US is stacked on floor and shouldn’t need Kyla’s floor.

I think the real deal breaker next year will be for Marta to find the bar/beam specialist (which could very well be Kyla) while making sure she has at least 3 solid amanars. So far we have Simone as the only solid amanar, and maybe Maggie, but I still feel like the writing is on the wall for Maggie to be named alternate given Penny’s requirement for the US team to be mainly pro (i.e., Gabby, Aly, and Simone are all locks). Even though Gabby needs her amanar back Penny will find a way to make sure she gets on that team no matter what.

So what I’m saying is Marta can’t afford to bring a one-event specialist this go-round because the vaulters aren’t as strong (so far). Kocian, Locklear, and even Norah (at this point) are namely one-event specialists.

      • Gym Obsessed Says:

The beam rotation at Worlds gave me definite hope that Kyla has a shot. I can’t wait to see her routines. Definitely agree Sanity that the team can’t take a one-event specialist next year.

    • Gymbot Says:

Gowey and Key are both in play for these reasons. I would only move on if I were Baumann, Skinner and the bars only gymnasts.

Meanwhile, we have the “leaders” of our world meeting together to discuss Global Warming. None of them got there via “Econo-Air” or biked their way to France. Obama I’m sure took his two 747s or whatever jets and crew of people and entourage. What a bunch of hypocrites.

Holy smokes GTT…. 7 years, $217 million for Price? He’s a great pitcher but that is an insane amount of money!

In other news, Jordan Chiles is training a double double off bars. She’s tokyo eligible right?
