FL AFan 6.0 Paeska 5.4 Seda 5.6

My thoughts

China improved their floor and vault and only had one fall. Great result for them. Now get some consistent beam workers and add in Yao Jinanan and they can repeat this next year at the Olympics.

How about Maggie Nichols? Anyone else want to spit fucking nails at the screwing she got in prelims. I would like to repeat the blogger followers with a fuck Marta.

Us was winning regardless and they got some gifts but they were winning anyway so. Watch out for Gabby overscore in the AA. It’s coming people. Her DTY was overscored here and she gained 5 tenths on bars ( she got credit for connecting something she missed in prelims) Just prepare for it.

GBR was very overscored on vault. Gabby got a 15.233 for a stuck DTY and the GB girls 2 got over 15 with huge steps and piked down. It’s pointless to argue the overscore especially since Russia fell 4 times but GB also had at least one fall I remember.

Russia is probably not happy right now but they should be. Besides being screwed of a medal in the team they were a mess before they got here. Without Aliya they did well.

Marta benching Brenna for team finals is bush league. If someone doesn’t call her out on this there is no justice. These are kids (20 something are still kids to me) This is just wrong.

Rude crowd barely cheering for China. Shame on you Glasgow
This gift for GB is like the one medal Aus won and never came close to again.

Pretty sure that is Abomb starting the USA chant that died after two rounds.

Rotation 4

US on floor

Aly- 15.075

OOB for Paeska. Come on Russia fight for this bronze with as bad as you were coming into this competition that would be huge for you.

Messy floor for Afan. Big step back on last pass and a short triple. Will be interesting to see her score

Why is Anna Li in the crowd? Will she claim this medal too.lol
Russia seems awful happy after those floor routines. Why?

Maggie just nailed the shit out of that floor routine. WOW

15.200 for Wang on vault
Mao, 14.833
13.766 for Paeska on floor
Tan 15.200 on vault
Seda- 13.925
AFan 14.500 on floor
Frag-DTY kind of messy: 14.833 (high)
Tinkler-DTY: 15.083 (also high)
Floor judges are being tough today

GB was grossly overscored on vault. Russia falling I get but the overscore for those vaults was criminal.

Rotation 3

1. US 2.China, 3.Rus,4 Japan , 5.GBR, 6.Canada, 7.Italy, 8.Ned

Balance beam:

Maggie is on bars now but they are showing GB which you can’t blame them it’s their feed.

13.966 for Maggie. It wasn’t shown. (Beam)

Aly took out a lot of her connections but she stayed on. Step on dismount. Is it me or does Kocian look mad on the sidelines?

Aly 14.266 on beam

Nice routine for Simone. One missed connection but best she has done all week.

15.200 for Simone. Compared to her prelims score that was low when comparing routines.
Nice DTY by Mai who looks like she aged ten years. She got over a 15

Except for Shang I don’t know one of these Chinese girls from the other. That was a nice floor set. Messy twisting

Kharenokova off beam. It was going so well til then.

Wang Yan got a 14.633 on floor

Now Komova is off. 3 falls for Russia.

This is so boring. We know the winner before they compete.

OOB for Shang but I still love her.

The US girls are being kind of loud and rude on the sidelines.Stop laughing like there isn’t a competition going on.

Uneven bars: Nichols,
Douglas, Kocian

Maggie you MUST hit bars. Do this now!!!!!!!!!

YES,Maggie hit. Some messy form but I want to see this score.

Oh look Gabby now runs up to congratulate now that the camera is around and she is on TV. If her bar score goes up 4 tenths now I will laugh at the fixing.

14.800 for Maggie on bars. I CAN’T EVEN

They didn’t show Gabby and she got a 15.333 I told you this is BS.

Kocian only got a 15.300.

Feed out again. First Chinese girl hot but I only saw half. It was beautiful what I saw.

Do we really need to keep seeing these Yurchenko fulls over the Russian bars and Chinese beam?

Long wait for score form China on beam. They did this to them the other day too.
Fan yilin-14.400

Off goes Wang. These girls need to compete more.

15.141 for Daria on bars.
Komova off bars. Sigh They are low balling Daria as it is for her to hit so she better wake up.

The 15.141 has to be for paeska not Daria

Floor exercise: Nichols, Raisman, Biles

Team Finals Line up
Vault: Douglas,( 15.233) Nichols,(15.4330 Biles 15.966

All 3 were overscored. Simone took a huge step and scored nearly the same as her better one in team finals which was also overscored. Gabby’s had preflight issues but she stuck and Simone was Simone. Great as always but a step. She was overscored.

Ellie Downie falling on bars is sad but someone online put the top 3 scores. Italy fell on beam. Why was the Britt girl crying after she hit? Black has gross form on floor. Becky Downie hit bars but not a great score for her 14.8 something.

Step for Komova on vault but a big DTY. Now I like the Russian leotards much better than US but no complaining cuz they are red.

Shang hit bars. 15.233 (yes I want her to medal on bars)Komova ovrscore on DTY but it was pretty in the air. Paeska hit her Amanar big step. Russia could be ahead of US after first 2 events if they hit. Or not Afan did a DTY.I feel like were missing someone with a better vault here. Yilin messed up to close to her Geinger but she stayed on and swung thru.

Russia would be in this meet for Gold if they had a floor line up. The US kills them on floor.

Love the double turn leg up into a double turn for the Netherlands girl if she completed it I would love it. Anyone that starts with a double pike makes me stop watching. This isn’t 1988 people.

Oh and my feed keeps stopping so there is that.

Chinese got screwed on 2 hit routines. Except the second one they were great.

Russian scores on vault Afan – 15.066. Komova 15.1 Paseka 15.600.

Anyone else think Gabby being used on vault is to justify her place on this team or does Marta even care right now? Making the AA by default is her justification anyway.

Brenna isn’t on start list which isn’t a surprise but Marta not allowing her on the floor is the bitchiest thing I have ever heard.

Making Brenna and Mykayla train at the hotel and sending off the other 5 to train is more proof Marta is a bitch and honestly I just find this all a complete mess.

Now you care Romania? How many years of this did it take?

Marta is a selfless pitiless snake who wants to put the blame on anyone but herself for making these stupid decisions in the first place.
These are part of her “games,” and the coaches and athletes should rise against her and say that this is absolutely not acceptable. But they won’t. Spineless (the coaches, who are adults and know better than to play and go along with these games).
This is Marta saying to everyone “mess up once, you are dead to me.”
Man Kyla and her coaches were SMART to avoid this nonsense. Although if I were Kyla I’d be literally thinking COLLEGE right now. Brenna probably just wants to be on the next plane ride home. Which sucks because she sacrificed a lot to do this. Although she should have known better that there was risk involved in getting back into the Marta games again.
Man, I just really hope karma is a b*tch when it comes to Marta one of these days…it’s really not acceptable to do this to young innocent girls who work their butts off the way these girls do.

  2. Exgymgurl Says:

Im thinking this is such a cluster f$;k it obviously makes a healthy clean consistent Kyla Ross an asset to this team. Obviously Marta is having Maggie faux compete AA in TF to see how she compares to Gabby ( cant stay on the beam) and Aly ( you mean form deductions count?) Marta is literally so pissed at Brenna she completely McCooled her and if I was her Id legit undefer and ask for the first plane away from kooky al and armine and be back at oklahoma with my world team gold. If Im Skinner Id legit be skipping trials mayhem and Id just quietly head off to Utah. I think Marta is totally ridiculous, and the way shes handling this makes me think she has alzheimers and its time for her to retire. I can almost understand if MyKayla / Brenna said something mind polluting banishing them both but still its just not cool. This probably just adds to the mental torture they already feel. And Bailie Key. I wish Bailie Key was here being great and getting the opportunity over Brenna or Skinner. Whomever made these decisions if Im KZB Im LMFAO at Bailie being so far away from this craptacular. The scary thing is considering the head games Rhonda played with her Karolyi teammates I can totally see all of this pressure f$;kery continuing and getting worse for Tokyo.

  3. Exgymgurl Says:

Oh and the USA men sunk their boat on pommels…. typical… Mr Hollie did great. only one AA qualifier and its lleva who no one ever thinks will do anything and then surprise!!!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Lleyva always sucks until he gets to worlds where he will choke eventually and probably win high bar and fall in team and AA.

  4. tulip Says:

Steve Penny needs to grow a set of balls and inform Marta that USA Gymnastics does not banish its athletes to the hotel. He’s head of the federation, not her. I have no idea how he feels about it but by not correcting her behavior, he’s condoning it. He’s a wuss.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

He’s part of it. He allows Marta these games because he plays them himself. He is worse than Marta.

I don’t know if Brenna is crying in private but there is a picture floating around of her and Mykayla in the hotel smiling and they don’t look like fake smiles.Someone sent it to me and I don’t know where they got it so I don’t want to post it if it’s supposed to be private.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Its from Mykaylas snapchat of the two of them working out at the hotel one on elliptical one on treadmill… thats where it came from

      • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s of both of them doing splits on the floor in the hotel. No work out equipment I’d around

      • mim Says:

I hope they went to the day spa and raided a mini bar (well Brenna, Mykayla wont obvs) and charge it to Penny. Wishful thinking!

    • Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

      Have they really been banished??
The plain fact of the matter is that since Marta took over we have been flush with medals. And America likes medals, especially gold ones. Fairness be dammed.

The one thing that really, really bothers me is that they use the K ranch. Ive been there its in the middle of nowhere a sport like gymnastics at that level you need a level 4 trauma center close by.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Shouldn’t Moceanu be running her mouth about now????

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

They really were made to stay at the hotel and just workout at the hotel gym (I think one used the treadmill and the other the elliptical). I saw the pic of them at the hotel…I don’t have it but if you follow MyKayla’s snapchat (and she follows you back), there is a pic of the two of them at the hotel.

    • Case Says:

Let’s be clear about Steve Penny. His objective is to maximize the exposure and sponsorship dollars of the US team. Gabby, Aly and Simone accomplish that. He could not care less about competitiveness because he knows in this field the US will win without trying too hard.

Don’t expect Penny to say anything to Marta. His objectives are entirely different than hers.

      • Dee Says:

I have always felt the same way about him. He is a business man, not a gymnastics man, this is business to him…and that may mean leaving someone who screwed up back at the hotel. (not saying it’s right!)

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

HA…Steve Penny is probably even worse than Marta. He gives zero fucks about the sport of gymnastics. (Was he ever a gymnast? His…umm…body type would lead me to guess that he was not.) It’s all about the money/endorsements for him. If you’re not a pro, you can’t bring in the “big” money for USAG.

  5. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

Here ts a fun game for somebody with time to kill. find out who would have been on last 4 olympic teams if they used just the judges scores like 96′

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Okay, so going based SOLELY on AA results from Olympic Trials, these would have been the teams (and I’m including 2 alternates):

2000: Elise Ray, Amy Chow, Kristen Maloney, Morgan White, Jamie Dantzscher, Vanessa Atler (Alt: Dominique Dawes, Alyssa Beckerman)

2004: Courtney Kupets, Courtney McCool, Carly Patterson, Tabitha Yim, Allyse Ishino, Mohini Bhardwaj (Alt: Terin Humphrey, Tasha Schwikert)

2008: Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Chellsie Memmel, Sam Peszek, Ivana Hong, Jana Bieger (Alt: Mattie Larson, Chelsea Davis) **Note: Bridget Sloan didn’t vault at trials

2012: Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Weiber, Aly Raisman, Elizabeth Price, Kyla Ross (Alt: Sarah Finnegan, McKayla Maroney)

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

The biggest mind fuck was the 2004 team…I honestly had NO idea that those were the trials results. I knew the top 3, but Tabitha and Allyse? And Mohini ACTUALLY finished in the top 6? Was that with Pam Anderson bonus thrown in?

      • Case Says:

Ha ha…points for you for remembering how Pam Anderson saved Mohini’s career.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Mohini only made trials because Postell fell off bars . Postell was over gymnastics at that point amd refused to go to trials when she was invited after the fact because some beam workers got hurt .she was pissed and said no. Then Pam came into the picture and all of a sudden Mohini’s scores improved by a lot.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Same thing happened with Dawes. Look at her bats score from nationals ro trials to say 2 of trials. She wasn’t getting credit for so w thing on bars til Miller got hurt and Vanessa head cases day 1 of trials. This has been fixed for years

  6. Katie Says:

It is INSANE that after all the mind FU**ERY,
Nichols is on bars after being left off in qualifying, Gabby is doing vault, and Brenna is out on floor. Marta is nuts, but truly, I think she is losing Cher mind. She can’t even save face with all of this!!!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s really too bad that the US team can’t just tank and lose to Russia but I like Simone. Maggie and Aly too much to wish that on them.

    • KG Says:

I’m not one to agree with the mind f***ery at all, but possibly taking Brenna out was a smart idea. Once she is spooked, I’m not sure it gets better. Maggie doing bars NOW is ridiculous. I mean good for her, she’s opening doors for herself that may not have been there before, but too little too late. I’ll only be okay with how they shafted her out of the AA if they give her a shot at Rio. Gabby doing vault is mostly to justify her doing AA but the alternative is Aly doing her amanar and that didn’t go so well in quals, so I guess I kind of get it.

      • SS Says:

It’s a joke that Maggie is doing bars. However I can see them wanting to rest Simone since she has pretty much 3 full competitions left. (Although she can fall multiple times and still win). But I don’t blame Marta for putting Gabby on vault. She has consistently scored better with her DTY then Aly has with her Amanar. Not too mention Aly looks like she’s going to blow her knee out every time she lands it.

      • Guest Says:

Can alternate be changed before Team Final? If so, I’d rather replace Skinner to do the vault.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

No alternates are set in prelims

  7. JAS4 Says:

I hope Maggie does well doing AA in TF. If she does I think it could help her chances for Rio.

  8. Guest Says:

Is Nichols the only one not competing AA in qualification but do all 4 events in Team Final?

  9. Sainabou Nyang Says:

    Dear god,
Please let the coaches have a moment of loose tongues and spill shade/tea/etc.. Regarding Marta and her foolishness.
If we could have a daily, weekly, or monthly rant that would be great.

A gymnastics fan who is here for the foolishness

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I dont think al fong is there. I think its just armine. Id like to know what all Laurent said to her on podium a la when people would mess with atler before bars. It would make sense if he wants kocian to medal that if he knew he could confuse brenna he tortured her. I would not put it past woga and the exlax protein shakes in 2008 that shawn will never speak of. However there maybe another wrath of fong blog that is rather eminent

      • Tortuga Says:

I like to think the bitchiness and evil was all Nastia and Valeri. Yevgeny and Carly seemed genuine. And I like to believe Laurent is as well. So I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Even so, Brenna should be experienced enough to not let anyone effect her competition. Madison and Alyssa seem like nice kids just not as stand out as Nastia. Although, you can definitely see Alyssa try to emulate Nastia’s syle especially on floor and beam.

      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

whoa whoa what? ex-lax shakes? please share!

      • Dee Says:

I wondered this too…if someone said or did something nasty to Brenna before she went up on bars. But deep down I think it was just too much pressure coming from everywhere regarding her and this event.

      • Cee Says:

I kind of feel it was the debacle on floor that rattled Brenna. No music, the timer’s going tick tick tick and Marta’s screaming GO. That would spook anyone.

  10. Dee Says:

So we don’t know for sure if Brenna was removed from the roster? If she was, does that mean she has to watch the rest of the meet from the stands and if the team medals, she doesn’t get to go on the podium? That’s so ridiculous. Is this the new standard now for USAG? Mess up once and we dispose of you?

If that was my kid, we would be on the next plane home, hell, we would arrange to take a big vacation since we are already overseas and F this.

I think Brenna was just a sitting duck for Marta…seems like she always has to torture someone, and Brenna just sort of put herself right in the line of fire. The scary part from that Chelle Stack bio above is that Marta was never an elite, and somehow I missed this the first time I read it. I think that’s what makes her so scary…she’s spent her life trying to push others to do something she never was able to master herself. I think sometimes that causes people to go to an extreme. Almost like she wanted it so bad, it didnt happen, and now she has spent her life torturing others over it.

    • Tortuga Says:

I think it’s all speculation because all the other teams have six team members listed where as USA only has the five listed that are definitely putting up routines in the final. It looks Brenna would not get to be in a medal ceremony if she’s not even on the floor with them. But can Marta do that since Brenna was used in qualification? I don’t know all the technicalities. This is confusing.

      • Tortuga Says:

I also wonder if Marta is punishing Brenna for telling reporters that she was yelling at her to go ahead and start her floor with no music. Essentially putting the blame on Marta and making her look bad. I could definitely see that NOT being okay. Add that with a crashed bar routine, it’s a recipe for disaster. That girl has had such a rough elite career.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Marta took her off of the START list for finals, meaning that if any of the 3 athletes slated to compete on any given event gets injured during TF, she cannot replace them (but one of the other two members not originally planning to compete can).

Marta may be super shady, but I’m pretty sure that even if she attempts/attempted to take Brenna off the roster, there is no way in hell she could keep her from medalling. Brenna competed for the US in prelims and no matter how much Marta may resent her, she can’t go back in time and erase that. I’m thinking (hoping) Brenna will just be Courtney McCool-ed: She’ll be on the floor for finals but in a warm up suit the whole time and only there to cheer her teammates on. Worst case scenario is that Marta forces her into the stands, but there is no way that she is not getting a medal. She competed.

      • Tortuga Says:

According to Lauren (the Gymternet), she definitely is OFF the team, like officially. Idk if you can receive a medal if your taken off the team. I don’t remember this ever happening before.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        She competed she gets medal

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That is such BS if true and someone needs to call Marta out.

What other country separates their teams like this – to “banish” your two “unused” gymnasts to the hotel and only have the other 5 train together? What nonsense is that. That’s seriously borderline mental abuse.

It’s too bad Romania can’t just like pick them up and use them for team finals. Or even China. They need floor/vault workers.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

^^Even if she is off the team now, she gets a medal. The situation might be different if she was an ALTERNATE who was taken off the roster or if she had never touched an apparatus in qualification, but I’m pretty sure that even if Marta “removed” her from the team, she would still get a medal.

This is not the same situation, but I believe in 1994, Shannon Miller competed in compulsories for the US and then LEFT the freaking country where World’s was being competed and still got a medal. She wasn’t removed from the roster, but she basically removed herself from the team to rest and still got a medal bc she competed in compulsories.

Don’t get me wrong, in Marta’s eyes, she’s probably not only off the team but dead, but Marta does not have enough power to keep some who ACTUALLY competed from getting a medal. Plus, she got the front double pike named after her during qualifications. I’m not a huge Brenna fan and I wanted her to be the alternate all along, but how could you POSSIBLY say, “Okay you get a skill in the COP but no medal.” If Marta/Steve Penny tried to pull that shit, all hell would break loose and lord knows what Al Fong would do. Plus, I’m pretty sure there is something in the FIG rules somewhere that wouldn’t allow them to do that.

      • Tortuga Says:

Okay good! It still seems drastic to have her completely removed, if that’s really what happened. Other people fell too. It seems like if it’s true it’s out of spite, and adding insult to injury.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

She’s DEFINITELY in the stands. WTF marta. Brenna, honey, please let me hug you. And someone said she visibly looked dissapointed walking into the arena as well 😦

    • Bess Says:

I don’t think they can/would keep Brenna off the podium. In fact, I expect to see Skinner up there too. Last year Desch was on the podium and she was the alternate

  11. gymmom2 Says:

Well I hope nothing happens during training or warm-ups that would require an alternate step in if she hasn’t let them train.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

She has been letting the other two girls who aren’t competing each event to continue to train. So if say Aly got injured, they would probably but Gabby in both of her spots (on BB and FX). It wouldn’t be IDEAL, but technically they could even use Kocian. I’m pretty sure they’ve all been at least doing some numbers on all 4 events and could go up if needed.

  12. daniellecosullivan Says:

Weird… Simone said Brenna wasn’t off the team on her Ask page when someone asked how she felt about Brenna being off the team and to be careful where you get your information from. The question and reply has since been deleted….

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Who deleted what? I am so confused. Brenna is off the list of competing gymnasts . That shouldn’t mean she is off the team completely

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

Exactly. There is a difference between not being on a start list and not being on a team roster.

In 2006, neither Natasha Kelley nor Ashley Preiss were on the start lists for TF, but they both got silver medals.

  13. KG Says:

I don’t think Marta would/could remove Brenna from the actual team/prevent her from getting a medal. That would not be passive aggressive, that would just be just plain aggressive. And Penny wouldn’t allow it anyways, because it would look bad on USAG.

Full removal looks vindictive and would only be used if an athlete doped, said something racist, or was caught making a porn in their hotel room, or whatever… something that would “morally” reflect poorly and where USAG would be praised for removing a team member. Removing Brenna from all competition is spiteful I suppose, but looks like a “smart decision” as opposed to just anger.

  14. tennisgrl456 Says:

I can’t figure out how to post a picture, but there is a hilarious (yet sad) picture on Madison Kocian’s IG. The “team” (aka…no Brenna or Skinner) were out in Glasgow earlier today and Marta seriously has this maniacally happy, “I’m the sixth member now, bitches!!,” look on her face. And don’t even get me started on her pose. Can someone who knows how to post pics post it on here? Her IG is public and will come up if you search her name.

  15. katecoursey Says:

Does anyone know if there’s a way to watch Team Finals if you don’t have Universal Sports? I tried the link above and it doesn’t work for me.

  16. Katie Says:

I know this isn’t popular opinion here, but I’m a little disappointed in Alys interviews. Jordyn handled herself with so much class, and really didn’t complain at all during the entire Olympic meet. Alys interviews came off a little arrogant, entitled, and whiny. I’ve pulled for her a long time, because of her history of hard work, how long she has been around, and the fact that she never seemed to get to the podium- and even though her form pisses me off to no end, I was thrilled for her in London. But her “on my worst meet ever I’m still 4th in the world” and “it disgusts me” and “two per country…” “At least this isn’t the Olympics, I still have next summer” Stuff has me wanting to tell her to shut up, pull it together, and let your gymnastics do the talking for you.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Yeah I was a only a little bothered by Aly’s interviews as well. But you can’t really blame her. I’m also biased because of my sheer love for her as a person or gymnast, and can totally see why a person could see her portrayed as arrogant as she becomes disappointed in “always being fourth,” “letting the team down when they count on me most”, or “I hope Marta still wants me for Rio”. But she is being real you know, she’s letting us know what she feels without being fake like Gabby usually is. It’s nice to see her tell it like it is sometimes lol. But yeah, I totally see where you’re coming from.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Both Italy and the UK have had falls already, rotation 1. The US is going to kill this.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Sorry I commented at the wrong spot. I didn’t see Aly’s interviews but she knew going in about the 2 per Country so yeah, she should shut up on that one. She only has herself to blame (even though she is kind of doing that) for getting antsy on floor (she shouldn’t have let Brenna’s thing shake her so, if that was the case) and then falling on bars…and her amanar landing was nearly out of control. She basically blew the door open for GD to overtake her. Even if Maggie were competing Aly would have been out.

      • tulip Says:

Agree with you Sanity on the falls… looking forward to seeing Russia and China soon!

  17. tulip Says:

So the team leotards are very pretty in red. Gabby’s vault had nice form. Loving the lack of Tim, Nastia and Al.

  18. tulip Says:

    GD 15.233 on vault

Nichols Amanar decent landing, helicopter legs

  19. tennisgrl456 Says:

Solid start for US: 15.233, 15.466, and 15.966

  20. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Love the announcer calling Maggie’s vault the “Animar.” Animaniacs!

    • Melanie Says:

Haha, I was just going to comment on that. She also announced Isabela Onyshko as “Isabela Onishenko.” It’s pretty funny…

  21. tennisgrl456 Says:

I have to ask, WHY THE HELL DID GBR PUT ELLIE DOWNIE ON BARS?!? It would have been much smarter to put someone lower scoring but more consistent. It can’t be good for her SISTER to have to follow after seeing her younger sis struggle (as we saw in prelims).

  22. tulip Says:

All 7 team members on the floor for team usa

  23. tennisgrl456 Says:

LOVE Russia’s Leo…I would love it even more if the USA used it -__-

  24. Bess Says:

So I am confused…I thought the top 4 teams from qualifying would be grouped together in the finals and the bottom 4 together. And the top 4 would go in the last subdivision so you would know who won for sure…

  25. tennisgrl456 Says:

Damn…Bee Farm has improved that Amanar about 500% since London

  26. tennisgrl456 Says:

Solid vault rotation for Russia…they’ll make up ground on bars. Beam will be decent or be their undoing. Kharenkova, Seda, and Vika

  27. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Beckie Downie had a sweet bars set with 14.833. Why would you have Paseka go 2nd with an Amanar and end with Afan with a DTY? I think the Russian leos are awful – seem ill fitting and I never like solid white in the lower part – too revealing. Paseka gets a 15.600 with a huge hop back on the landing and split legs at the block.

  28. tennisgrl456 Says:

Okay, HOW are the Chinese not getting a deduction for the coaching on bars? The coach was literally standing on the podium next to Fan Yilin while she was swinging the ENTIRE time and you could hear him talking to her.

    • tulip Says:

      that’s a very good point

    • Bess Says:

I am just now catching up on the feed but seriously anyone have any idea if that is allowed?

      • Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

I think they can be on the podium but if they touch the gymnast its a 2 point deduction I think.

    • Dee Says:

They shouldn’t be allowed to talk, even if they are up there. You can’t “coach” (I was always told this at meets, even if the coach was next to the apparatus they were not allowed to “coach” during the actual competition routine?). I am surprised there was no deduction if there is the same rule in elite?

  29. sanitynmotion Says:

Can the Netherlands choreograph the US floor routines?

  30. sanitynmotion Says:

China fourth after bars can’t be good. I thought they had some wonderful bar work. Are they being underscored? Or maybe it’s because the US and Russia were on vault and that apparatus always has higher scores.

  31. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Wang Yan off on beam

  32. tulip Says:

Yan Wang off beam for China

  33. tulip Says:

    Spiridonova 15.41 bars
    Komova off

  34. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

    aaaargh Vika!!

  35. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Komova off bars 😦

  36. sanitynmotion Says:

    NO Komova fall on bars.

    China falls on beam.

Just hand over gold to USA.

  37. sanitynmotion Says:

Wow, a 14 with a fall and bad landing. Seems like a gift to me for Komova. Even though I love her bar work.

  38. tulip Says:

Can I just say how much I am enjoying the chance to see all the teams compete… not just the top 3/4?

  39. katecoursey Says:

Uggghhhhh I just need Komova to hit already, she can be so lovely. It still kills me she didn’t win the AA in 2012.

    • tulip Says:

I know- with Jordyn out, I wanted her to win. If only she had stayed on the podium with her Amanar… her gymnastics can be gorgeous.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Her floor that competition was the best I’d ever seen from her. I was sad too but she gave it away with her “animar”…

  40. tennisgrl456 Says:

  41. sanitynmotion Says:

Maggie with an EFF YOU MARTA bar set.

  42. sanitynmotion Says:

14.8 bar score for Maggie. Is that about the score that Biles puts up for UB?

  43. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Feed froze forEVER but saw end of Maggie’s bars – clean, great lines, stuck landing 14.8!!

    • tulip Says:

I hope Marta is paying very close attention to her performance under pressure and keeping it in mind as we get closer to Rio

  44. tulip Says:

US needs a 12.6 to take the lead and Kocian is up on bars

  45. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Gabby got a 15.333

  46. sanitynmotion Says:

Someone tell Kocian to point her toes on the release moves? Other than that solid.

Maggie is like the new Chellsie Memmel. Beast mode Maggie can’t count her out. I hope she does this next year and makes Marta take her to Rio. As you can tell I’m now on Team Mag with the Swag.

Are you kidding me Maggie’s bars BEAT GD’s bar score? CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CALL MARTA OUT FOR BEING STUPID.

  47. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

    Kocian with 15.300

  48. sanitynmotion Says:

OK my feed for whatever reason didn’t show GD bars. Weird?

  49. tulip Says:

    15.3 Kocian bars
US up by around 2.5 or so (please correct me if I’m off)

  50. sanitynmotion Says:

US ahead by 2.45. We need 2 falls and nobody else can make a mistake in order for this to be a GAME.

  51. Melanie Says:

God, this commentator is awful. She clearly learned the names of the athletes like, today. And that’s only clear when she can pronounce them correctly. She barely knows the names of any skills – apparently all bar releases are “piked Tkatchevs.” I’d rather have no commentator at all.

  52. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

I’m surprised they didn’t show the RETURNING OLYMPIC CHAMPION blahblahblah. Seems like they’re skipping the 2nd competitor from each country in favor of showing something from each country.

  53. Gymnast41 Says:

    15.333 for Gabby….and we didn’t see it…um

  54. sanitynmotion Says:

Am I correct in that when they were announcing the US team (initially), they didn’t say how GD was the reigning Olympic AA champion? I laughed at that…but they definitely said Simone was the reigning world champ.

    • tulip Says:

I caught that too and I may be a horrible person because I laughed a little. Hey, everyone can benefit from a little forced humility here and there

  55. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Downie sisters redeem on beam. Both solid routines, no falls, 1-2 balance checks but solid. Ellie gets 14.133 – did she water down the dismount? Haven’t seen Becky’s score, but solid as heck, hop forward on Arabian landing but sticks. Sticks dismount with small step back on one foot. Only one balance check. Great job from both.

  56. tennisgrl456 Says:

13.966 for Nichols on beam. Hasn’t been shown but apparently not her best…but hit routine.

  57. tulip Says:

    Whew… Aly hit beam

  58. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

YAY ALY!! Beam: Connections better, slight balance check after back layout, solid punch front, hop forward on landing! Did she lead off??

  59. sanitynmotion Says:

Seems like they are scoring pretty low on beam.

  60. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Aly 14.266 slight improvement over quals.

  61. sanitynmotion Says:

Simone’s beam – SOLID. One of the best I’ve seen her do recently.

  62. tulip Says:

Simone on beam was very solid and confident

  63. sanitynmotion Says:

Ok guys – what does Maggie need on floor to “beat GD’s AA score” – ?

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I’m ahead of you on that…keeping track. She is currently at 44.232 after 3 rotations. No doubt in MY mind she will beat GD’s qualifying score so I’m not going to see what she needs exactly. I’m going to wait till after floor to see HOW much she beats her by 😉

      • sanitynmotion Says:

OK just report it 🙂 I’m totally not keeping track but it seems to me Maggie would be well ahead. Just hoping she does her floor like she did in Quals.

    • Bess Says:

      13.285 to beat…I think

  64. KL21 Says:

Yesss GB! Really hoping to see them get the Bronze this year!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Same! They have been great on floor and they are super powerful vaulters…these are China’s two weakest events. Fingers crossed!! Plus it’s Amy Tinkler’s 16th bday, how great would that feel for her?

  65. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Simone in BEAST mode on beam- attacking her skills, wolf turn fast and with no hesitation, hits every connection except leap after punch front, slight hesitation but may still get it. Absolutely no hesitation before back series like most other competitors and just dances through her footwork like she’s on floor. Sticks her dismount with typical hop back. 15.200 WHAT?????

  66. sanitynmotion Says:

Is Brenna in the stands? #IhateMarta

  67. KL21 Says:

    Russian meltdown on beam…

  68. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Kharenkova off beam

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Sea lead off and fell as well! Holy shit…V. Rod is going to murder them when they step off the plane 0_0

  69. sanitynmotion Says:

Russia down on beam from a stupid turn. And she was so solid before that…Kharenokova…

  70. sanitynmotion Says:

It’s so weird Romania isn’t here.

  71. tennisgrl456 Says:

    • KL21 Says:

Is it possible Russia doesn’t make podium this year? Komova looked like she just hopped off..

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Is Round Lake have an actual lake on the premises? If so, I feel like several bodies are going to “turn up” in it a few weeks after Worlds. Aliya must be FUMING in the stands.

  72. sanitynmotion Says:

  73. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

well eff me running. Komova falls off beam on her Arabian. Balance check on turn. Beautiful sheep jump though. I cry.

  74. sanitynmotion Says:

How tall is Vika? Same as Kyla?

  75. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

  76. sanitynmotion Says:

What is Chusong’s music? It’s literally giving me a headache. Can they pull what they did with Brenna?

  77. katecoursey Says:

VIKA you’re killing me. Someone get that girl a sports psychologist stat, if she gets floor back and stops falling all over the place she’ll contend for silver AA in Rio.

  78. katecoursey Says:

Also, not 100% sure, but I’m pretty sure the announcer just said “yurchenko 1 1/2 twist into punch full out” while describing Paseka’s floor…yurchenko? Seriously?

  79. tennisgrl456 Says:

China definitely has the silver. The battle is for bronze. Russia is about 2 points ahead of GBR and Japan. Japan is on bars so they won’t make up much ground, but Russia could lose significant ground on floor to GBR on vault. It’ll be REALLY hard, but it’s not impossible.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

If the UK wins bronze, probably the first time in a LONG time that both Romania and Russia don’t make podium in a world team finals.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

At least the Russians are waving at the camera and smiling.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Komova smiled after she fell off beam. It was weird

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I know like a “relieved” smile. It was kind of like throughout her whole set it was inevitable, and then it “finally” happened. And then after she fell she rocked it. Wha?

  80. sanitynmotion Says:

Afan’s choreography has elements of Kerri Strug in there…not in a good way…

  81. tennisgrl456 Says:

14.5 for Afan? That’s fucking insane, she practically fell back on two of her passes.

  82. sanitynmotion Says:

Maggie YOU FREAKIN ROCK. Killing it. She’s really just rubbing that in MARTA YOU’RE STUPID.

  83. tennisgrl456 Says:

Maggie. stuck. every. damn. pass. FUCK YOU MARTA.

  84. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Paseka’s backward breakdancing “worm” on floor reminds me of Key’s penguin slip and slide floor. As in, please – take them out. And Paseka goes OOB in an otherwise clean floor routine.

  85. tennisgrl456 Says:

    Maggie’s AA total today: 59.232

  86. sanitynmotion Says:

DUDE Maggie’s AA score had to have beat GD’s by at least 2 points…15 on floor!

  87. sanitynmotion Says:

Aly’s killing it now too. Maggie’s lead off had to have helped.

  88. tennisgrl456 Says:

  89. sanitynmotion Says:

Wow! GB will get bronze! Oh I love it.

    • H Says:

So great with that bronze for GB. That must be a historically placement. Happy for Maggie and Aly, though Aly have downgraded a lot… both on beam and floor. But I guess the best thing for her was to show she still can be consistent and be among top two of both floor and beam and therefore “secure” her position for the Rio team.

  90. sanitynmotion Says:

Wow Simone’s floor score is higher than most amanar scores…amazing.

  91. tennisgrl456 Says:

The team holding hands and waiting for the final score to be confirmed….and no Brenna to be seen. This picture is going to be plastered all over the place. Talk about a dagger, Marta.

  92. Rocío Martínez López Says:

So happy for GB! I am only sad that dear Elizabeth Tweedle isn’t in the team anymore. She did a lot to bring awareness to gymnastics in the UK. It would have been lovely for her to have a team medal too.

  93. Rocío Martínez López Says:

And I am sure that Aliya is facepalming herself in some place inside the arena. Russia, haven’t you seen what happened to Romania?? Haven`t you??

  94. tulip Says:

The Russian floor was really sad. They looked completely lethargic, Paseka looked like she was going to cry while doing her routine, Seda had an ugly routine with awful form and B-level tumbling for this level and Afan… well she just looked out of it. Very robotic. They each were overscored significantly and shouldn’t have been as close to FG whatsoever.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Yeah, did you see Afan right before her last tumbling pass? She rolled her eyes. Seriously.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Although I can forgive Afan. She has freaking kidney stones!!

    • mim Says:

Is Seda a bit of an odd man out on the Russian team? I noted Komova, Paseka and Spiridonova being all giggly happy, then after Seda’s great floor, it’s was cold, all business air kisses.

      • TrishaG Says:

i don’t think so. there’s been lots of ig pics with seda and the other russian girls hanging out together, having fun, squad pics, etc. i think they knew she was mad about her beam fall and she competed fx pissed. they were prolly just giving her some space to deal with it.

  95. exgymgurl Says:

I’m sure Aliya is Laughing honestly. The Rodienkos wrote her off for London, and she carried the team and then they said how amazeballs they would be this year without her and SURPRISE!!! Russia and Romania continue the flop of the Rs what year was it the Russians went home from the Olympics without a medal oh yeah 2008…. this is that all over again. I want Zamos tears over her meaningless vault after that girl scratched team final accidently. I want something other than these meek oh well we did our best today barneyesque smiles. Um memo to team Russia get Aliya back, memo to Romania Bars coach with Izbasa and Ponor on the side, oh and maybe if you hadn’t mentally screwed with Racea, Pitic, and Porgras you would still have them around. Whose laughing now at pitics 13.8 bars scores… would have helped this year…

    • katecoursey Says:

Wait, who scratched team finals accidentally? Never heard about that one.

      • Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

in the team finals kramerenko ran into the board and table but didnt vault. It counts as a void.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Yeah, that was weird. Russia need a little more that 13 something to get Bronze and Kramarenko ran to the horse, she seemed to second guess herself and didn’t jump, but touched the horse with both hands. The odd thing is that she hand time just to go to the side, don’t touch anything and repeat the run. If she hadn’t touch it, she would have been allowed to repeat the run and jump, but not when she touched it. She scored zero and Zamo had to jump after her knowing that her score didn’t matter at all and that they will come off last after Kramarenko’s stunt. She is still a professional and went to Nanning’s worlds last year as part of the team, being selected for a big international competition for the first time since Beijing 2008.

  96. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

I am proud of Komova for accepting her mistakes like an adult and not collapsing into puddles of tears on the sidelines. I am devastated that she fell on both bars and beam – particularly bars, as she should have had top score. I pray she redeems in EF. But GOOD for her for handling it like an adult. Our little Vika has grown up!

    • tulip Says:

Well said. She looked so much more grown up today. I’d love to see her “get the hardware” in EF

    • Melanie Says:

She looks so much happier and more relaxed this go-round. I’m always rooting for Vika, and I hope she fixes mistakes for EF.

    • Brittany Says:

Unfortunately this isnt true. Komova is on the Russian VK site saying that the British and Chinese got lucky, and that the Russians should just start pumping their girls up with hormones and steroids like the Americans do, etc etc. I’ll take the 2012 Vika over this shit any day. Sounds like a little B Rod in training. Or maybe training in Italy rubbed off on them, idk.

      • Brittany Says:

I mean V Rod. Didn’t spell check in my rage.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Russians always act that way when they lose.lol

      • sanitynmotion Says:

That’s funny because look at Kocian – doesn’t appear she’s “pumped up with roids.” Only Simone and Aly really are built with the thicker muscles, oh and Brenna, who was in the stands.

The Russians just need to be more consistent and stop falling. Three falls on beam cost them. Plus Vika’s fall on bars, and really a poor showing at floor. They were lucky to get 4th.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She does have a point. A small point. The US is a group of strong girls all of them have muscles. Simone in particular benefits from her strength. Watch her tumbling. It’s never close to the end of the mat so she never has a chance to go out of bounds.

Gabby and Maggie are also very strong and so is Aly and Russians aren’t built that way. Neither are the Chinese.

It has benefits for both sets of teams but in reality if any other Country was as strong as the US we would have more competition

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I agree, but even the Chinese have every so often a “stronger built” woman. I think that for gymnastics, they don’t generally “pick” the stronger builds. The thicker ones are put on the swim team, haha. Cheng Fei though had a more robust build in general.

Also, Aliya is pretty strong and so is Afan. Build-wise, they aren’t much different than say Aly or Maggie. Vika is really lithe/breakable, like Kocian and (bleck) Nastia.

Simone is really likely what she’s referring to. Very compact and large muscle groups. She’s short/squat and like you said enables her to tumble a lot without having to get as much momentum so she doesn’t land out of bounds. She’s just built for this code. Her build reminds me of Shawn Johnson, only more pronounced.

      • the dude Says:

Where did you find this? Is there a link?

      • TrishaG Says:

aliya and afan might have similar builds, but they don’t have similar musculature. seda is probably the most muscled of the russian squad. the rods are big on aesthetic beauty for their wag squad, and russia is somewhat behind the times in how its society views women. females should be graceful, pretty, and feminine, and it’s not considered feminine to be muscular. so the rods don’t condition the gymnasts as much as they should so they won’t develop visible muscles…which leads to power and endurance issues on floor (and elsewhere). alexandrov was much more pragmatic: gymnasts must be strong to handle the difficulty that’s necessary to win, and strong means conditioning. the man has his faults, but he knows how to train gymnasts to be successful and competitive.

  97. H Says:

Thanks for all of your comments and thank you for your blog GT. So funny to read it all today. Looking forward to AA and EF. Wonder if Marta will do some “sovjet unionen/Romania” changes …

In OG is it 5 up 4 counts in team qualification?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Sad thing is, I honestly believe Nichols would pull a silver to Biles in the AA. GD is not going to do that – unless she gets major gifts and everyone else falls.

Too bad Aly didn’t make floor finals either because even with her watered down routine she scored higher than Maggie today. I think Maggie might have shuffled one of her landings (although most looked pretty dang solid) so not sure if she has much room to move her score up from that 15. I hope she medals in floor, it would be cool to see Maggie get an individual medal and I hope at the same time, GD comes back empty handed on an individual level.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She connected something she didn’t connect in prelims but even so 5 tenths when everyone else was going down is pure bias.

She beat Kocian’s score so that girl better bring it in event finals or she is done. Ansd now we have to hope the Russians stay on bars because the Chinese are getting screwed bog time by the judges

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah I saw that about the Chinese. I don’t know what Kocian can really do to improve her score – she had no mistakes today, right? I mean she consistently flexes her feet and misses a handstand or two…didn’t make sense how Gabby beat her score though. I doubt Gabby’s routine was that much better.
I don’t think Kocian has much of a chance for Rio anyways. Her best event isn’t strong enough and everything else is pretty weak.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby connected something she missed in qualifying so her score went up.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She got a 6.4 start value so her routine went up 5 tenths with only a 2 tenth bump and get this her execution went up over 4 tenths

      • sanitynmotion Says:

She got nearly a 9.5 E score on vault, too.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The beam judges so far only ones doing their job. Bars judges are on crack. I need to find out who the judges are

      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Her form on the first pass is iffy but doubt she could clean it up in time to gain more.

      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Whoops, sorry, was referring to Nichols.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Nope, 4 up, 3 count in qualification at the Olympics

      • H Says:

Ok. Would have been fun to see 5 AA in qualification.
I guess we will have a similar story next year in qualification as this year. 3 AA and most likely 2 “specialists”.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She can’t put in Maggie because Maggie didn’t do AA in prelims

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Doesn’t Romania do it all the time, they just say that the real qualifier is sick or injured and put in Iordache…didn’t that happen at the last Olympics? Or two worlds ago?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

When it comes to AA you have to compete AA. In 92 it was top 3 no matter what UNLESS someone was injured. In EF it’s next in line regardless of Country unless 2 per Country rule is in effect. Maggie didn’t do AA in prelims so she can’t do it now.

Marta said in her interview she doesn’t regret not putting Maggie in the AA. The only way Marta gets karma is if Gabby doesn’t win an AA medal and with these judges it’s hardly likely unless she falls twice

      • H Says:

Kind of, and Marta can (I think) if she wants to put Aly in AA and Aly in floor EF. Most likely she wouldn’t do it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She can replace Gabby in the AA and floor finals yes but only because Aly is next in line for EF but for AA she could but she won’t.

  98. sanitynmotion Says:

I so agree with Gabby being overscored on her vault, and the way her bars was scored reminded me of the London games – in the AA, her bars score was like five tenths higher or something like that than it was in Team Finals.

  99. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

somebody asked y ann li is there.
She is there with the region 5 all star team. legacy elite is in region 5 and her younger sister is part of the all star team.

  100. JK Says:

Thanks everyone for your comments. I missed TF live so reading all your comments was very helpful to me. The only part I did catch was the very end – when the US were announced the winners and a random shot of Anna Li in the crowd. haha GTT, I thought the same too. When I saw her, I was like, is that Anna Li? WTF is she doing there?

Anyways, I’m going to try to watch TF later. Sounds like Maggie kicked some ass. Still pissed off that Marta/Steve didn’t let her compete AA in quals. And I’m sad that Brenna wasn’t even there with the rest of the girls. Marta, you have no heart.

  101. Rachel Says:

Did anyone happen to catch Daria Spiridinova’s bar routine? Looking at her start value, her score in TF suggests definite underscoring unless she made a visible mistake.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Royally screwed even with 2 tenth less start value

      • Rachel Says:

Thanks for approving me to comment! I’ve been reading and been entertained by this blog for a long time now. I am definitely curious to see this event final in particular and see how the scoring plays out. Based on what I’ve seen so far the scoring has the potential to be a hot mess.

And thanks for sharing the video! I really hope Daria medals if she performs like this later in the week.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

You got me in a good mood:) Yes well the scoring is already weird. I actually like the tight scoring but it has to be for everyone not just certain people.

        We will see.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I remember this and thinking that was a beautiful bar set. Now that I think about it, how did GD get such a higher score? What was Daria’s start value again and final score? Sorry I forgot.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby 6.4 Daria 6.5 in team finals.
Gabby missed handstands in her routine too but judges be judging

      • sanitynmotion Says:

And what was Daria’s score? Wow, then Daria got royally screwed if she didn’t score similar to Gabby. I saw both routines and both were good on a similar level.

      • Guest Says:

Any one knows GD’s bar D score. I always think 15.333 for her should be way overscored.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

6.4 in team finals she got credit for connecting a skill she didn’t get in prelims. I feel like no one read this blog.lol and yes I know I say that a lot

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Here is the fun part her execution improved by over 4 tenths. Figure that one out

      • sanitynmotion Says:

        It was 6.4 I think…so nearly a 9.0 in E score for GD.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

8.933 or something which is BS

      • Guest Says:

But I still think Russia would be gifted in UB EF.

  102. sanitynmotion Says:

Here’s some food for thought. Say Simone does a three-peat and wins Worlds three times, the first female ever to do so. Then, just “say” she doesn’t get gold in Rio in the AA. Would the PTB in US Gymnastics “shun” her to the Miller/Johnson/Weiber/Zmeskal group, or would they promote her as they do Mary Lou/Carly/Nastia/Gabby?

I almost left Carly out in that last sentence. Like I totally forgot about her.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

maybe not a first but yes, after awhile she gets left behind and forgot about because GOLD AAA IS ALL THAT MATTERS:)

    • G Says:

That’s why I need Simone to win! She would make history and they wouldn’t be able to ignore her.

      • Ss Says:

At this point all she needs to do is stay healthy. She can realistically fall twice before she even has any competition. Her difficulty and execution is so far above anyone else. We are lucky to get to witness her amazingness!

    • Guest Says:

Just think that Simone is Serena Williams in gymnastics.

  103. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

    rewatching with sound now.
whats with russia looking all happy after FX.Did they honestly think they were going to medal?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

They were up by 2 points so yes they thought they had it. In their defense the joke scores GB got on vault were hilariously overscore

  104. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

Funny because russia knows all about homescore advantage.

  105. G Says:

I feel like the USA thinks they’re being classy with their plain red leotards but they’re just boring and pretentious. Russia’s were really ill fitting but at least they were a little unique and had all their flag colors in them. GB’s looked really cheap to me with that mesh and strange stomach design. Canada had their usual leaf design. I wonder what USA has for EF

  106. Exgymgurl Says:

So now its in print Vika Komova accusing team USA of doping to win and valentina saying the brits should not have gotten a medal with four falls. Vika is awful as bad as ferlito commenting about simones race, and valenitna is also CRAZY

    • KL21 Says:

lol Valentina….I remember GB falling once on bars but when was the other three times?
And wow, disappointed in Vika, but I can see why the USA team leaves a sour taste in her mouth lol

    • Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

Really… Doping allegations from a program that at one time got athletes pregnant and the aborted.. just for extra vitamin intake.

      • mim Says:

        Wait, WHAT?!

      • Cee Says:

Back in the ’60s supposedly (I don’t think it’s ever been proven although I certainly wouldn’t put it past the Soviets) Soviet athletes were ordered to get pregnant and then abort, to take advantage of the extra changes (oxygen-rich blood, hormones, etc.) that pregnancy brings. It’s like an undetectable form of doping.

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

I am a little surprised Vika said that, but not about Valentina. Valentina badmouthing someone? I would be surprised if she did the opposite. In any case, we have seen a lot of coaches throw allegations against other teams when they loose as a way to reflect responsability. I still remember when there were rumours that the chinese team that got gold in 2008 were all underaged and they were linked to Bela and the American gymnastics or in other sports, when they always blame the referee even if their teams have done abismally. Russia need to analyze very well this competition and put remedy to the consistency problems they have or when Aliya finally retires they will be again in the same situation of the 2005-2010 quad, when only Pavlova from time to time brought a medal and they got nothing in Beijing. In any case, if I was a Russian coach, I would never put Kharenkova in beam in a team final again. I have seen that girl in European competitions, home competitions and worlds and she never hits when it matters. The slight superior difficulty she presents doesn’t compensate the risk. And Vika…after what happened in the Russian Cup, it was expected. She hit en qualifications and she falls 1 of 2, so it was time in the team finals.

    • Dee2 Says:

Apparently, Vika has since, apologized, per Rewriting Russian Gymnastics: http://rewritingrussiangymnastics.blogspot.com/2015/10/viktoria-komova-apology.html

  107. Exgymgurl Says:

    translate away

  108. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

I cant get the pic in google translate… 😦

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Exgymgurl likes to talk in tongue’s so sometimes we just have to wait until she talks human to figure out what she is saying.lol

  109. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

apparently Seda fell on her beam dismount..Thats the routine they didn’t show.

  110. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

I’m giggling insanely over Dagget’s Twitter gaffe. And, completely unrelated to anything, I love how calm and unruffled Aimee B is at all times. She’s a rock.

  111. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

In the same random vein, Afan must be on some really good drugs for her kidney stones. She was cutting up like crazy throughout the whole meet. Her expression when she scratched beam, her goofy faces throughout, and I’ve read that she rolled her eyes right before her last tumbling pass on floor. Waiting in hopes someone got a GIF of that….

  112. H Says:

Marta saying in the interview that she is happy with Aly and Gabby’s comeback for now. And that next year/Rio, Aly and Gabby will be in top shape … (happy for Aly though,) but it seems that there are only two “real” spots available on the Rio team.

    • Tortuga Says:

And neither will be another all around spots, I’m betting they will be specialist spots. So unless Maggie ups her difficulty by like 2 more points or someone gets injured, she has no shot. Ughhh, I hate politics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

What she did in team finals matters and to be fair she could be the Aly of 2012. Already has the Amanar and that floor she did in team finals was close to Aly

      • Tortuga Says:

Yes you’re right she has the Amanar which she can clean up, but i think her floor was only close to Aly because Aly took out some of her difficulty. At this point Aly has more difficulty but isn’t as consistent. And Gabby has been getting by really well because of Aly’s short comings. So, I think Maggie is still going to have to up her difficulty and beat Gabby at basically every meet and camp to be considered for one of those spots above the favorite Gabby, i feel like Gabby will be on the team unless she completely crumbles (like Nasita) or Maggie has to give them no choice but to take her. I’m really rooting for her though.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

This competition gave Marta every opportunity to over score Maggie and get rid of Aly if she wanted too and I don’t for a second think she wouldn’t do exactly this if she wanted too. Aly still had a 6.5 on floor

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Honestly Aly is a clean amanar away from securing taking over Maggie’s AA spot if indeed the composition will be 3 AA’ers and 2 specialists. I can see needing beam and bars specialists. Honestly hoping the team will be Biles, Aly, Kyla, Norah, and either Nichols or Key. Wow the Rio decision will be tough.

I’m totally thinking too far in advance though. Man I just hope Keys and Kyla bring it next year.

      • Tortuga Says:

I love that team, I just can’t put any stock in Kyla till I see her compete again. Would be so awesome though if she could be a bars beam specialist. And I’ve always hoped Norah would make the team for bars/beam as well.

  113. the dude Says:

Ok, I’m shocked no one has said this, but can we talk about Simone ‘s coach? She is truly the unsung hero of this quad. She produces an athlete like Simone, nurtures her gifts, and preserves her from burnout/injury. Yet you NEVER hear about her. She has probably the best female gymnast of all time, yet she never speaks in interviews, social media, etc. That to me is worth noting…Discuss (please)

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Until she has a second Simone she will get no street cred

      • Exgymgurl Says:

News flash, theres no second coming of Nadia and theres not going to be another simone biles. It will be a happy day for her and a sad day for gymnastics when she hangs up her grips.

      • Sainabou Nyang Says:

True dat GTT. I hate comparing her to Steve Nunno but once Simone retires I wouldnt be surprised if you never hear from Aimee B again. Does WCC have any promising juniors?

    • Tortuga Says:

Until Simone wins an Olympic AA gold she will still not be as important to certain folks as someone like say Nadia or Nastia. Stupid I know, but that’s the way it seems to be.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta hates Miller so much I think she will add her even if she doesn’t win gold next year

  114. Exgymgurl Says:

valentinas crap and yes thats a screen shot of vikas VK or whatever russian facebook is official. Khorkina has said similar comments to vika now

  115. Exgymgurl Says:

ai speak in tongues and riddles… LMFAO!!!! Its going to be a fun banquet. Maybe simone will share her scret oh wait she is naturally talented and works hard. Oh wait was Nadia on drugs when she fot really fat and then marta starved her? Wasnt hypolito actually warned about a diuretic a while back after she admitted to having lipo to lose fat? Yeah….

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I usually understand your gibberish but I have no desire to be in the gymternet insider it’s killing my vacation. Getting up before 3 in the afternoon is not fair. I won’t be doing this again.

  116. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

In brazil its no big deal to have lipo. I think the gov actually pays for it.

  117. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

So according to Valentina the UK had 4 falls on bars??

  118. KG Says:

I’m late to party! I just finished watching… Had to actually work while at the office and then took my daughter to dance, and avoided looking at the usag Facebook page!

GTT you’re right, GB over scored on vault but still, they have upped their game a bit. It was nice to see genuine appreciation for third though. I swear China/rou/Russia always look so pissed getting bronze that I was actually a bit moved to see a team crying and ecstatic to medal at all. Gifts or not, it was nice to see,

Sounds like GD got some gifts. Typical. Ridiculous for Vika to say we dope. I see girls with similar builds in so many sports in the USA. We’re a melting pot and thus have a lot more types of builds, like from kocian to biles. The Russians and Chinese are so homogeneous, compared to us, so honestly she might not quite “get it”. Regardless she’s as bad as the Italians.

When I saw the Russians all laughing after floor, I honestly was reminded of kids who feel like the refs are making bad calls and that’s why they are losing, so they just give up and laugh it off like the whole thing is beneath them. That being said, Komova is a beautiful, beautiful gymnast. She just can’t stay on apparatuses.

Simone is amazing obviously. Smiles throughout her floor.

And MAGGIE F***ING NICHOLS. Yes!! I genuinely could not take my eyes off of her. She looked like she was loving and soaking in every moment of every minute she was performing on podium, and when they got their medals she had the most genuinely thrilled look that I adored. I am so disappointed and angry she won’t be doing AA, but I am really hoping she just goes up from here and is the fourth choice (should be second hoice) for Rio at this point. I can’t imagine how someone could have performed better under pressure.

  119. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

Random.. what was your favorite finals leo?
    Mine was Canada

    • gymtruthteller Says:

    • G Says:

Yeah I like Russiass too. The sparkly fabric was pretty worth the red and blue sleeve. It did look baggy on a lot of the girls though.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I always like how GB puts their flag on the back of theirs, but color-wise I like Russia. I wish the US would have red, white, blue and not just red. And I hope the EF leos will be R, W, B but usually they are one solid color as well like all white, all pink, or all blue.
I liked that one Olympic leo that was the EF leo in London – the one Aly and Jordyn wore on floor. To me that should have been the team final leo only because it had ALL flag colors. It’s kind of annoying that the US only incorporates one flag color on their leo, and then you see other countries actually fully represent.

      • G Says:

So agreed, it’s like we don’t even try to be creative.

  120. gymnerd Says:

Did Brenna & Mykayla get their medals on the podium with the team?

  121. Guest Says:

This blog said Vika has apologized.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Yes I was just about to post this, I bet carlotta ferlito is so happy someone else made a mistake like this. Also apparently word got to simones coach (aimee) what vika was saying and late last night Aimee responded via twitter. Pretty sure USAG took it to FIG and thats why we have the apology. Social media moves fast. Vika should be sanctioned by russian gumnastics like carlotta was.

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Russian gymnastics can`t sanction Vika for this when Valentina says worse things everytime she speaks before a camera, specially when she is trying to justify herself/the failures of the team, like now, when she is complaining that GB was overscored. Lady, they could have been a little overscored in vault, but you can’t seriously tell me that your team deserved bronze with four falls (three on beam, one on UB) and a bad rotation on floor. You have to be freaking kidding me. Accept your team’s mistakes, get a good sports’ psycologist for the consistency issues and beg Mustafina on your knees to come back or Rio is going to be Beijing 2 for you.

      • Tortuga Says:

Everything Rocio said is spot on. I guess Aimee deleted her tweet about it. I wanted to read it but I’m sure I can basically guess the gist of what it said. “Our girls train hard and earn their wins, yada yada.” Most gymnasts should just stay off social media all together, and seriously no one likes a sore loser. Even if GB was over scored a little on vault, they were so ECSTATIC to win bronze and Russia would have turned they’re nose up to it. There was some judging inconsistencies but over all you can’t take back 4 falls and a luck luster floor rotation. You can’t half ass and expect to get everything handed to you. I think Russians need a better conditioning system and sports psychologist. Maybe they should do crossfit or something? More weights/ endurance training.

      • mim Says:

Honestly I know Russia gets pissy and act like whingy bitches when they lose, but this Komova comment about the USA (read: Simone) absolutely INFURIATED me. Her comments were disgusting, even if she “apologised.” She’s old enough to bloody know better than to run her mouth off on social media because she’s jealous and pissed off.

I’m not even American so it’s not patriotism that drives this reaction from me. It’s the fact that it’s a sport that demands so much, gruelling training, so much sacrifice, you would think there would be some level of respect and decency for the work done by fellow gymnasts. Seriously, Komova, you and your team fucked up, just OWN it instead of blaming others and at least pretend to be a good sport.

Thankfully it’s obvious Simone is above all that crap and doesn’t like people’s shitty jealous comments get to her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am American and it didn’t offend me at all. The Americans still whine about the Chinese and Aly and Nastia did it 3 years ago on twitter and bo one batted an eyelash. The fact is the is is just as whiny when they lose. Nastia whined on the late night talk show. Aly and Nastia on twitter and Aimee complains on her Facebook almost every time someone questions Simone’s medal so not just Russia does it. Rothlesshit was making fun of the Chinese ages on twitter yesterday where is the outrage about that?

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

The problem I see is that Russian gymnastics seem to encourage this kind of things instead of focusing on the team’s own performance. It’s true that Komova is an adult and should have known better, but I find really unacceptable that the people responsible for this team are spelling venom on the other countries instead of focusing on the things they need to improve to be competitive again. Which kind of mindset are those people transmitting their gymnast when the only thing they say when they loose is that it is an injustice when they had four freaking falls in a team final? Get real, people! And we all know that gymnastics has a lot to do with politics; if Valentina and Vika continue with this bullshit, the judges could look at Vika’s and Russia’s performances more harshly, so I don’t know what they pretend with this.

      • Mim Says:

I personally thought the discussion of the ages of the Chinese girls on Twitter (Nastia and Aly) was really distasteful and offensive, particularly in reference to Shang Chusong. I wasn’t following my gym any earlier than 2011 so I missed all the Bejing stuff. I remember a lot of gym fans being pretty outraged about those comments!

I just think it’s a really gross character trait in any situation to deflect blame/put down someone else to mask your own weaknesses and not take responsibility for your own actions. Hopefully she’ll learn from it but I doubt it.

    • Cee Says:

I love how she said “there isn’t any proof.” Oh Vika.

  122. mim Says:

I hope Marta is regretting playing the politics game because with Maggie she probably would have gotten silver AA. Gabby will be lucky to get a medal.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I totally agree here. And I don’t see Gabby medaling in UB EF either. Although she did get major gifts in team finals with her 15.33. If I were Kocian I’d be worried.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The good news about event finals is the big extra tenths the favorites receive in the team and AA usually go away when it comes to the specialists. Poor China gets railroaded on bars every time. Kocian form issues compared to the Chinese gymnast with the 6.8 start value were night and day during team and qualifying. These judges low ball the Chinese every time.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Why are people contingent out Gabby and an AA medal? Her bats score went up 5 tenths with 2 more tenths in start value. If she hits her beam I guarantee you at least a 14.600. If she hits she is winning an AA medal and these judges Wil make sure of it. People better prepare

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

She falls 50% of the time in competition (in London, for example, she hit AA and Team final and fell on beam and had an error like that in UB finals) so I am counting with her falling.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I hope you are right. I want to be wrong and I will gladly eat crow if she doesn’t medal

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Gymtruthteller, we can both be right. She can be overscored (and given her history, she probably will be) but if she fall in her butt and the others don’t, she won’t medal. And I hope they judge her floor accordingly. God, it is horrible. And I am sorry, but nobody should win Olympic AA with Panamericano’s music. It was beyond horrible. In my world, Panamericano is the funeral song of artistic gymnastics. The deductions for lack of artistry are an urban legend or it is a deduction only applicable for other countries, not for the big 4.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No. You can be right. I want to be wrong:)

      • Gymbee Says:

Hahaha well said Rocio. Funeral song of artistic gymnastics is spot on!

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Gymbee, I was yesterday seeing the competition and I thought that comparing Eythora Thorsdottir’s floor with Gabrielle Douglas’ was like comparing a Chihuahua with a San Bernard. You know they are from the same species, but you don’t see too many similarities between them. It’s the same. Both are floor exercises with at least the minimal requirements in common, both Eythora’s was gorgeous and GD’s is horrible. And the sad part is that Eythora won’t win a medal because artistry has been demoted in favor of acrobatics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby’s routine is why the artistry deduction exists

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

But they never apply that deduction to her, dammit! Nor to the other big 4 either. Have that deduction been applied in reality? Like, “you have this deduction not because of form or because you didn’t finish x element, don’t kid yourself, but because your routine lacked artistry so much that I am going to lend your coaches a dictionary because I think they don’t know the meaning of the word “artistry”?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They took points off Mai Murakami for the most complete floor routine at last years worlds. These judges cheat for who they like and always will and even when they get in trouble they are allowed back.

        Gabby walks through her routine.

      • Mim Says:

I’m still confused how Brenna’s floor was judged for artistry without music.

I agree about Eythora’s floor, if only she could get some more difficult tumbling in to be a floor finalist one day. I swear every floor routine of hers has been stunning. She’s just a delight to watch.

  123. Guest Says:

Oops, Japan is winning Men’s Team Final, China’s performance seems to be disastrous since 2004 Olympics.

  124. Gymbee Says:

Did you see the Americans were granted pizza haha!

The Americans got PIZZA last night (among other things) pic.twitter.com/9Ui8fAr2kc— Bekah (@GetAGripGym) October 28, 2015
