All Around

I am home and on my way to watch this splat fest but I would like to thank the boys mother for forcing me to lunch so we could “talk”so I would miss this all live. To think I was pissed when it first happened. It ended up being a blessing.

Now I am off to watch the fun. Before I do I would like to take this time to tell Marta Karolyi that she is a first class bitch who can suck it. Those are not my words they are words of a friend who is pretty pissed Maggie was left out of the AA. She would have only needed a 12.8 something to pass the ego that ate America and to save us all from what is about to come. It should also be noted that Gabrielle’s score this year would have only placed her 7th or 8th last year. A Canadian is in third place (now 4th) A CANADIAN and that says it all about how badly this worlds blows.

Those leo’s are hideous. Is this a gymnastics event or a hockey tournament ? Lighting really? Maggie dancing.lol Making poor Mykayla go on the floor and wait for an event they won’t let her compete. Oh this is fun.

Floor: US

And here lies my biggest problem with these floor judges. They harshly judged Larisa and Brenna and that is fine but they didn’t do it with certain other people.Be consistent.

Gabby D: double turn was short, Her first pass was not connected to the jump anyone know if she got credit for those with the start value??? She also started her first pass with both feet on the floor. I know that is allowed once. Nice full in connected to a wolf jump ( MY GOD END THESE PASSES FIG. They are ugly) Short on the switch ring. Bobbled out of the leap.Fell out of the double turn with leg up. The full twisting switch ring wasn’t even close to a ring or fully around. 5.9 start value with an 8.500 execution = 14.400

WTF FIG. You owe Brenna an apology and so does that bitch Marta. Don’t blame this music mishap on her, You are the PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF THE DAMN FEDERATION OF GYMNASTICS COULDN’T START THE RIGHT MUSIC? and WTF is with Marta screaming for her to go with out music? This should be a big deal and as much as I thought Brenna shouldn’t be on this team this is a fucking joke to allow this to happen on the biggest stage your federation controls. If that had happened to anyone else the world would be outraged and I have barely seen a mention of it.

Brenna D: Okay I was too annoyed to nit pick it. It was actually her best routine this entire time she has been competing the last few months. 5.8 start value with 8.266 in deductions including a tenth OOB for a 13.9 How does all that tumbling only get a 5.8 start value, sheesh. GREAT JOB CLAPPING CROWD

MAGGIE: Step back on double double Small step on second pass. Yep I am already bored discussing the deets of these routines so I’ll just be me. Maggie has some swag going on in this routine and it’s actually fun to watch tho I am not too sure about that bird thing she does after her second pass. Watching the sidelines where no one was even watching her routine was interesting. Gabby is rubbing her legs, Aly was off preparing for next and no one else is any where to be seen. 6.2 start value with an 8.500 execution for a 14.700

The peace and quiet is so nice. No Tim and Nastia

Aly: Both feet OOB. Aly has more choreography then most on floor. At least her teammates watched her. Not her best but still it sucks she is out of the floor final.I guess extra tenths for having a gold medal only works on the AA Gold. Both feet were OOB but not at the same time but she was deducted for both going out at the same time. Guess it was close. 6.6 start value with an 8.233 execution for a 14.533 with OOB worth 3 tenths

SIMONE: Great tumbling. Small bounces but not as big as she usually does it.

US Floor thoughts

I have come to the conclusion that artistry and dance ability don’t matter to these judges they only care about tumbling which is why Simone gets such a high scores. The connection to the music is lost in so many of these routines I don’t know why we bother having music. Simone’s tumbling execution is in a league of its own but everything else was just noise in the background. Maybe it’s my mood but I just didn’t like watching this routine. I don’t like the music at all and while I usually think she presents her routines so well this time I just didn’t feel it. Gabby was even worse. She walked through that routine and nothing she was doing connected to what she was showing on the floor. I might not have liked Simone’s routine today but she usually sells it but Gabby my God she literally walked through that routine like it had no music. How it didn’t get any artistry deductions is beyond me. This isn’t even a case of me finding reason’s to dislike Gabby it’s just these routines are all the same. Tumble, tumble, dance pass, double turn with leg up, last pass. This Gabby routine makes Carly Patterson the original robot look like a ballerina. I can’t be the only one that thinks this? At least Maggie has some flow and rhythm to it Gabby’s had none of that.

VAULT:

Brenna: DTY 5.8 for 15.100 (Better distance than Gabby)
Gabby: DTY 5.8 For 15.300 (Better landing then Brenna)
Aly: Amanar 6.3 for a 15.100 (Big forward fly away)
Maggie: Amanar 6.3 for a 15.666 (Stuck but messy)
Simone: Amanar 6.3 for a 16.000 (Small step but crossed feet. This was overscored)
: 5.6 for a 15.266 ( tiny bit short)

US Vault Thoughts

Messy Amanar’s all around even Simone’s wasn’t her usual perfection. Maggie stuck but messy legs. Aly all over the place. Oh it’s prelims Jenn who cares.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uneven Bars
Gabby: 6.2 start value with 8.550 execution for a 14.750
Aly: 5.6 with a 7.466 for a 13.066 with a fall
Simone: 6.1 start value with an 8.566 execution for a 14.666
Kocian: 6.6 start value with 8.633 in execution for a 15.233
Brenna: 11.333 ( 2 falls)
US Uneven Bar thoughts
I honestly dislike this event a lot. All routines are boring except the Chinese.
Simone messed up added an extra swing Aly fell, Brenna fell twice, Gabby hit but was close to the bar on her release and missed almost every handstand. Simone had an extra swing and a form issue and Madison actually missed quite a few handstand and had leg separations even I picked up on. I felt the US as a whole got some gifts on bars especially Maddie. Brenna headcase was just lack of concentration.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Balance Beam

Madison: 5.5 start value with 8.500 execution and a score of 14.000
Gabby: 5.9 start value with an 7.266 execution for a 13.066 with a fall
Aly: 5.8 start value with a 8.266 execution for a 14.066
Maggie: 5.9 start value with an 8.333 execution for a score of 14.166
Simone: 6.3 for an 8.666 execution for a for a score of 14.966

Balance beam thoughts

These judges were the strict and pretty fair all around minus the same names we always talk about getting gifts. Simone’s score was a bit high. Maddie was messy, Gabby a disaster that anyone else would have been half a point less. Aly missed connections. This is the one event the US needs drastic help on because if the judges really start executing the execution scores the US is in trouble. No way Gabby would have deserved an 8.266 execution with the missed connections and bobbles and nearly hitting the beam with her head. I had more fun watching the Netherland girls in the background than a single one of these beam routines

Aly on beam She didn’t do the leaps after the layout and someone before said she might not get credit for it the way she does it. She hit her punch front wolf connection but was very conservative on the leap series. I think he big issue was the layout not being laid out. Compared to Gabby and the mistakes she made this was very nitpicked.

OVERALL

Aly not thinking she has a shot at next year is sad and says a lot about Marta’s mind games REMEMBER ALY, You didn’t exactly score that well back in 2011 compared to the Olympics so fix your form issues and leaps and start nailing the connections like you did in practice. Glad Maddie hit but only because it will save us from Gabby winning an UB medal but honestly she misses every handstand and has ugly form so I don’t get her score. Maggie really slayed this competition. Nailing her Amanar with messy form but fighting to stay on beam and making floor finals is more than we could have asked from her. She did what no one thought she could and she put herself in position to be in team finals on 3 of the 4 events she competed. I wouldn’t be surprised if she made an appearance in the UB team finals too ( No Brenna and no Aly leaves us Simone, Gabby and Kocian but maybe they want to rest Simone. Gabby did better than podium training she saved herself for when it really mattered because Marta gave her the AA spot when she didn’t deserve it. Taking advantage when she had to but damn you Aly without that fall we would have been saved. I guess it’s up to Guilia and Larisa now.

  1. Dee Says:

So to me things just got a little more interesting. Great Britian in second after day one of prelims is pretty cool, and i liked seeing Ellie black in first AA even though that will change tomorrow. I am sad that Romania did not qualify but in another way it made the race for silver and bronze worth watching (although this is gymnastics so while it feels like USA will come out on top, you never know what will happen). Silver lining I suppose.

  2. KG Says:

Sort of a random thought, but seeing how the judges have been pretty picky, it’s possible Marta knew skinner would get torn apart at this worlds. Which would make sense, but still doesn’t since key (who scores better overseas) didn’t get at least skinners spot.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

These judges were picky for Romania and Italy and gave Russia some gifts. These judges have multiple personality disorder.

Floor judges were very picky and so were beam. Vault I didn’t get a read on and bar judges were all over the place.

      • tulip Says:

Nelli Kim has so much control over the judges. Plus I know Bruno doesn’t want the US and especially Simone to keep winning. Can’t help but wonder if the gifts will shape the outcome the way they will want it.

      • Mimi Says:

Nellie and Bruno need to get a life. The politics are ridiculous. Write the bloody code and let whoever is the best be the effing best. The thought of these adults running around trying to manipulate outcomes in a sport that is filled with teenagers/young adults is utterly pathetic to me. Ugh. On that basis alone I hope the Simone and the US smash everyone.

I’m also really curious if the Aussies can sneak into the final. I wish but I’m not really holding my breath though.

  3. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Two falls for Peña on Vault following the All Around Twitter Page (the USA’s channel doesn’t let me see anything…it says that the content is not available for my contry…damnation).

    • tulip Says:

I don’t know how to do this but I suggest looking for an IP blocker. They can cancel your location and make it look like you’re elsewhere. People here probably know much more about it than me.

The Chinese are sloppy on vault and floor. One girl was so tiny I wasn’t sure she’d make it over the table. Can’t wait to see their bars!

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Thank you for the tip, tulip. I know how to do that on my computer at home (that’s how to see EE.UU. Nationals) but I haven’t managed to do it from my laptop. I am currently in Vienna researching part of my Ph. D., so I can access to my normal computer. It’s a pity. I hope I’ll be able to watch the finals from the Spanish National Channel’s webpage, though.

China ends third AFTER GREAT BRITAIN. Can Great Britain be the surprise of the team final? And Romania is now officiallly out of the Team Final and heading towards Pre-Olympics…I think it’s the first time they aren’t in a team final since…70s?

      • tulip Says:

Well this is crazy. The Chinese had a bad time on bars! 2 falls, incredibly sloppy form, near misses and bad landings. Am really shocked at the outcome. I too would like to see Australia make the top 8 and not have to worry about the other event.

        Still can’t believe Romania smh

  4. Gym Obsessed Says:

I want Brazil to make the top 8 – how great would that be for them to know they qualify to Rio?

    I am heartbroken for Romania.

And I can’t believe these low AA scores. The most interesting part of the AA will be US qualifications.

  5. Gymnast41 Says:

Lol thought I would wake up for China’s quals and I guess that didn’t happen. Now the anxiety kicks in cause in less than an hour I have to watch Aly destroy gabby in quals and brenna not fall 🙂

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Nothing will give me more pleasure than seeing Gabby out of AA because 2 per country rule. How hoping judges don’t over score Gabby. Do your job judges! #fingerscrossed

      • Gymnast41 Says:

So far they’ve seemed to be a little fair and a little too fair in the judging, so I have full faith in this one 😁

    • Gym Obsessed Says:

I feel very sad that none of this came true. 😦

  6. gymbot Says:

Shang Chunsong and Wang Yan are in the all around, but they only scored 56 and 55 with mistakes. Shang came off on her BHS LOSO LOSO series on beam so she’ll miss the final there. Wang made a couple of errors on bars leading up to a dead hang. She didn’t come off, but pulled over to start in the direction she needed to go and got a 6.4 E score. China’s mistakes put them behind Great Britain, but they counted falls on all events except vault.

The Americans posing as Belorussians didn’t make the AA final so Nellie’s plan to get a berth to the Games hasn’t worked out.

Looks like Brasil qualified a team to their own Olympics. They sit in 7th place with the US and the Netherlands left, so unless the Netherlands has an amazing qualifier, they’re all set and we can see Rebecca Andrade in Rio.

Germany, France, Belgium, Romania, Australia, Spain, South Korea and likely the Netherlands (but maybe Brasil) will try to qualify a team at the test event.

    • gymbot Says:

Actually I’m realizing Mexico and Switzerland have decent teams and could sneak into the test event over Spain and South Korea. Jessica Lopez wont reach the all around final, she sits in 24th-ish place with several strong AAers to go.

    • Gymbot Says:

The Netherlands look ecstatic after vault, I wonder if they just topped brasil

  7. tennisgrl456 Says:

I just wrote a LONG comment with notes on each Chinese athlete and the internet ate it -__- To sum it up:

China on floor: their “star” on this event, Mao Yi, landed OOB on her first pass and took a scary fall on her second pass. Chen Siyi also sat down her second pass. Anyone who complains about the USA’s lack of artistry and grace needs to watch this rotation, bc there was nothing artistic or graceful about these routines. Aside from Chen Siyi’s ill fitting remix of a classical number, the rest of the songs made me feel like I was trapped inside of some hidden level of a video game. This team needs the 2008 girls to teach them how to “do” floor. WE KNOW YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT CHINA, WHY DO YOU RESORT TO USING THIS CRAP. #teambringbackJYY Anyways, SCS is currently in 6th but with the US, the Netherlands, and Steingruber still to go, it doesn’t look good for her.

Vault: SCS will forever do a FTY. She just doesn’t have the body mass to do anything more difficult. Wang Yan in a gem. If she stays healthy, I would say she is a lock for Rio. She currently sits in 3rd on vault, but she’s about 5 tenths behind Hong Un Jong. The others did so-so DTYs.

Bars: Meltdown started. Wang Yan stayed on but basically got the same amount of deductions she would have with a fall. She definitely is not a natural bar worker but needed this routine for AA. Fan Yilin and SCS hit. Fan should advance to finals and is currently in 4th. SCS is currently in 6th so her spot in finals is more precarious. Tan Jiaxin took a freakishly hard fall while doing a pirouette. Chen Siyi fell and had a super sloppy dismount.

Beam: Chen Siyi stayed on but had checks on almost everything/had a bunch of broken connections. SCS looked untidy in general and fell on bhs+loso+loso series. Fan Yilin had a gorgeous routine aside from her fall on her RO+Layout. Wang Yan stayed on and despite several balance checks and a connection that should NOT be credited (switch ring to sheep–not sure if they gave it to her or not), she gave a fairly solid performance and is in 4th as of right now and should make beam finals.

GBR did beat China by 2 points, but for the first time in forever, they made it through beam without falling. There is no doubt that they are better than China on floor/vault, but if they want to hold on to that third place spot (it’s second now, but will be 3rd after the US performs), they are going to have to hit beam again. Even with their falls on beam, China was only 1 tenth behind GBR on that event. It should be really interesting, especially since China and GBR will be competing together AND starting on bars. Definitely a more interesting story than the “battle” for first…which is nonexistent.

    • H Says:

      Appreciate it:-) Thanks!

    • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Thanks for the recap…I can’t watch it, but I have heard that GB had two falls in the UB, something rare in GB, so if they stay on beam and had a good rotation in the UB in the finals, they can get lucky and get bronze over China. That would be crazy!

    • gymbot Says:

China and GBR will be really close without falls – but this is gymnastics.

Since GBR goes up second on beam, I’d put my money on a bunch of weak routines if China hits. If China hits beam and bars, they can probably absorb one fall on floor.

    • neutrophil4 Says:

Chen Siyi had a low landing on her second tumbling pass, but she didn’t sit it down. Tan Jiaxin was the one that sat it down. :p

  8. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

WTF happened to Brenna’s music? I couldn’t hear it at all??

  9. tennisgrl456 Says:

BRENNA DID HER FLOOR WITHOUT MUSIC?!? But nailed “the Dowell.” Stumble on the last pass.

    • gymbot Says:

I’m so excited she’ll get that named. Not many have an eponymous skill, so congrats to her.

Geeze though. What a cluster crap on her music and her bar routine.

  10. mim Says:

I am sorry but Brenna is a mother effing bad ass. WHAT JUST HAPPENED.

    • Cee Says:

I am horrified at that fuckup–she did her floor set without MUSIC???? FIG owes her a goddamn apology. I also have a terrible feeling that may have contributed to her bars debacle. Oh Brenna. You deserved better.

  11. gymmom2 Says:

How in the world can the music glitch have happened with Brenna? That is just unbelievable. Did the judge tell her she had to go anyway? I am completely baffled.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

It looked like Mihai or someone was telling her to wait but she wanted to go anyways. She probably was mentally set to go and waiting would have thrown her off more than not having her music, which sounds crazy.

  12. tennisgrl456 Says:

Gabby floor: 14.4, Maggie Floor: 14.7. THANK YOU JUDGES!!

  13. gymmom2 Says:

And Nichols just beat GD on floor! Maybe GD won’t be getting lots of gifts from the judges – yeah

  14. Gymnast41 Says:

I’m sorry but brenna slayed that FX even though she stumbled on a couple passes. Lol this is the most brenna thing that could’ve happened 😂. Looks like gabby finally got scored fairly

  15. tennisgrl456 Says:

I’m a HUGE Maggie fan…14.533 for Aly. MAGGIE IS IN FLOOR FINALS. AHHHHH

  16. Gymnast41 Says:

NO FREAKING WAY MAGGIE ON FLOOR OVER ALY.

  17. mim Says:

I am actually loving that Maggie is in the floor final!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Same…I love Aly but I think the third pass was what sealed her fate. It honestly looks like she jumps out of that double layout and kind of just hopes for the best. It’s not well controlled to say the least.

      • gymmom2 Says:

She looked that way in a lot of the training videos too. You can’t do that and go out of bounds.. .too many people nipping at your heels in the US

    • Gymnast41 Says:

She deserves this after being knocked out…honestly think this will light a fire for Aly to make AA finals, which I 100% think will happen for her

  18. mim Says:

Be still my heart, Simone 15.966!!

  19. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Gabby – no spirit, no choreo, just seemed half alive. Stuck her skills but horrible music. Hate it more each time I hear it.

Maggie – absolutely darling, terrific choreo, legs seemed a a little shaky on 3rd pass landing. Terrific job!

Brenna – GODDD, why does this kind of thing always happen to her? Does routine without music, beautiful dance elements. Can tell she’s shaken up but hits the double front pike, but no stag out of landing and takes a step. She is a freaking force of nature. Way to go Brenna!

Aly – guess Brenna’s music thing messed with her. Looked like she didn’t get the height she needed on her big pass, which threw her front lay forward and she goes OOB – *%@*!! Overcompensates on next pass and gets sky high on her ending leap. Gorgeous routine, hits it all but OOB penalty kills her. Dang it.

Simone – gorgeous as always, has a landing hop on 2 that I saw but controls her whole routine, ends strong and the crowd goes wild.

Yass Maggie and Brenna!! Will she get some sort of consideration for doing a beautiful routine without music or will it hurt her??

  20. tennisgrl456 Says:

    No Amanar for Gabby

  21. Gymnast41 Says:

Gabby stuck literally her first vault after a bunch of crappy landings throughout the week…😑.

    • gymbot Says:

I think it’s strategic given her ankle injury from 2012. She probably doesn’t go for landings until she needs to.

  22. tennisgrl456 Says:

15.1 for Gabby’s DTY, 15.133 for Aly’s Amanar. Maggie is sloppy in the air but nearly sticks for a 15.666

  23. tennisgrl456 Says:

TEAM PUT MAGGIE IN ON BARS!! Please Marta?? This is absurd, she earned that spot and she is showing that she deserves it.

  24. mim Says:

Maggie should be competing AA. Really.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

I think Aly will kill beam though, it all comes to bars. MAGGIE is proving why she deserves to be here and in the running for AA. Like wow.

      • mim Says:

I’m pretty shocked people were saying she should have been the alternate only a few days ago! She rocked nationals and she looks fantastic today. Why is Gabby even being considered, she looks like she doesnt even want to be there!

      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

I agree, Mim. Her floor was, eh, I guess I’ll come out here and tumble and cock a hip now and then.

  25. TrishaG Says:

Aly needs to calm down and get her crap together. She’s behind GD right now…:(

  26. Tortuga Says:

This is fucking nuts. Maggie should’ve been doing AA. She is proving it!

    • mim Says:

Absolutely. Her bars have to be better than Aly’s, right?

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I’m so pissed at Marta (and everyone who has been saying Maggie should have been the alternate all along). I hope Maggie outscores GD on beam and makes finals there as well and somehow manages to medal on floor or beam or both. If GD does qualify over Aly, I honestly hope she doesn’t medal at all.

  27. TrishaG Says:

    No, GD has 29.7

  28. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

The music thing is unforgiveable. Really. I can’t find live scores anywhere – what was Brenna’s score?

  29. tennisgrl456 Says:

Lol…US leads Russia by 6.7 after 2 events.

  30. mim Says:

Netherlands on beam, it’s like watching magical faeries haha. Eythora’s and Sanne’s beams were just gorgeous.

  31. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Background voices are making me want to punch something as we warm up for UB,..

  32. gymmom2 Says:

While they should put Maggie in on bars, they won’t because she would beat GD. Hope Aly can pull it out on beam because without a screw up GD will beat her on bars. I think Aly may have given her AA spot away by her performance on floor and vault.

  33. tennisgrl456 Says:

Aly FELL on bars. I’m SEETHING at Marta right now.

  34. mim Says:

Can we curse in the comments? Aly’s bars….

  35. TrishaG Says:

Omg, Aly is so off today. Did she come down with a bad case of nerves or smth? i’ve neve seen her struggle like this in quals.

  36. Tortuga Says:

Gabby is getting this spot by circumstance!

  37. Gymnast41 Says:

GHRTJKMJGFJGSEFIJVFUHCFUGXDTHVUU I QUIT I QUIT QUIT NO NO NO NO NO LIKE MAGGIE WOULDVE BEEN IN….NO. guys…

  38. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Beautiful bars set for Gabby, nice form, just sloooow. A little close to the bar on her catch after the release.

  39. tennisgrl456 Says:

First fucking fall at Worlds for Team USA since 2010…

  40. katecoursey Says:

….I stopped watching. It’s just going to make me angry at this point. What is up with Aly? And Maggie deserves that second AA spot with the way she performed today.

  41. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Nice UB for Simone, little leg sep at top of pirouette, good swings, sticks landing with little hop.

  42. Guest Says:

I just feel mad that why Maggie was not chosen to compete AA. 😠

    • gymmom2 Says:

But based on performance today Maggie should have replaced Aly and you wouldn’t have liked that either. Based on performance Brenna should have been the alternate and Skinner should have been in with Maggie doing AA and Skinner on Floor and Vault

  43. Gymnast41 Says:

    Brenna please…..please please please.

  44. tennisgrl456 Says:

UN-FUCKING-REAL…Brenna fucked up her bars BIG time.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Not to be mean, but have fun back at OU!! You aren’t getting anywhere NEAR bars in TF and there is ZERO chance Marta will let you near the Rio team, even as an alternate.

    • mim Says:

GTT won’t be surprised. You called it GTT! I just had so much faith in her bad-ass-ery 😥

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

I 100% thought she was going to be the alternate as well. I was always saying that there is no way that Marta lets her near the actual team bc she never hits in completion. Marta should double lock her door tonight so Maggie doesn’t kill her in her sleep.

      • mim Says:

Brenna’s kissed any semblance of Rio goodbye. I’m glad she’s had her shot at Worlds finally though, I still adore her. Bailie is that much closer now though!

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

I would also say that Maggie has kept the door to the POSSIBILITY for Rio open for herself as well, depending on how she does in team finals.

    • Gym Obsessed Says:

Poor Brenna. She was trying so hard not to cry in the interviews afterwards.

  45. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

So now we see the consequences. Maggie shut out of AA, Aly chokes, Simone and Maddie both have to cover errors, Brenna chokes worse than I’ve ever seen her choke. My heart is broken. Maggie would have hit her bars. Unreal.

  46. Gymnast41 Says:

Poor bailie key probably crying in her living room right now. Brenna. Freaking. Dowell.

    • mim Says:

Maggie’s probably ready to punch people in the face. They should put Nellie Kim on speed dial and boot out Kwan and Dickson for Belarus.

    • Sainabou Nyang Says:

Lol I straight up thought that Bailey Key would have hit. Damn lots of discussion to be had after Glasgow.

  47. Tortuga Says:

This is UNREAL, I literally threw my laptop down with disgust when Brenna chocked. It’s like a Bross trials meltdown. I’m gutted! Maggie you’ve definitely got your vindication now.

  48. katecoursey Says:

Literally everything I didn’t want to happen (neither Aly nor Maggie getting the second AA spot, Brenna falling apart on bars on her one shot to get a medal, Aly not qualifying floor finals) is happening. Whyyyyyyy gymnastics….

  49. tennisgrl456 Says:

Time for beam…words cannot express how badly I want Maggie to make finals.

  50. Gymnast41 Says:

As soon as brenna was out on that freaking list I knew this would happen. WHY did Marta even think that she’d hit a bar routine at WORLDS when she’s only hit one of what, 7 in the past 2 years? This is unreal. Probably the biggest embarrassment the US has had. Maggie looks pissed tf off cause she knows good darn well she would’ve killed that bar routine.

  51. TrishaG Says:

I’m so bummed for Brenna!!! She has looked so good and consistent in training, i really wanted her to earn an ef spot. Why are so many falling apart this year????

  52. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Welll, there’s the result of overstrategizing. I have to wonder if Brenna’s music had played normally LIKE EVERYONE ELSE’s if she could have kept her bars together. We will never know.

Although, if Mihai told her to wait, and she went on to do it anyway, that’s stubborn and senseless and ended up mind screwing everyone on the team. As much as I’ve pulled for her, this is the end of the road for her elite career, methinks.

Didn’t see the start, but the 3/4 I did see of Kocian’s beam routine was clean and lovely. I am feeling very outraged on behalf of Kocian, Key, Skinner and Maggie right now.

  53. Gymbot Says:

Maybe not Douglas took a dive on beam

  54. mim Says:

Gabby’s off beam. Aly here’s your bloody chance to seize this.

  55. Tortuga Says:

    GABBY OFF BEAM!

  56. TrishaG Says:

    whoa!!!!!

  57. Gymnast41 Says:

GABBY CHOKES ON BEAM. STILL HOPE FOR ALY

  58. Bess Says:

Come on Aly….here’s your chance don’t blow it

  59. tennisgrl456 Says:

Gabby off beam AND overtime. Kill it Aly. SLAYYY.

  60. Gymnast41 Says:

Lol plot twist. No way Aly isn’t making AA finals now 🙂

  61. tennisgrl456 Says:

IN OTHER NEWS THE NETHERLANDS KNOCKED BRAZIL OUT OF TF. THEY WILL ADVANCE!!!!!

    • mim Says:

So happy for them. Their gymnastics are too beautiful to not be showcased.

      • Tortuga Says:

I really wanted to see both of them in TF. This year has been so hard to root for teams because there are so many I want to see.

    • gymbot Says:

I’m excited over this – they finally put it all together and they’re missing some of their gymnasts as well. Usually they all lose it. Lieke qualified towards the top of the all around (4th, 5th counting Raisman) and Eythora Thorsdottir may have made it. She’s sitting 23rd (26th) with Steingruber left to go. I hope she makes it and bags the elegance prize

  62. Gymnast41 Says:

    Aly needs a 14.784….EXTREMELY doable.

  63. tennisgrl456 Says:

    14.166 for Maggie.

  64. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

    YESSSS ALY!!!

  65. mim Says:

    Hallelujah Aly.

  66. Gymbot Says:

I don’t think that was enough

  67. Gymnast41 Says:

    That’s gotta do it.

  68. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

This is actually the only time I can remember Simone looking somewhat grim. Maybe it is “focused.”

  69. tennisgrl456 Says:

WTF, only a 14.066 for Aly??

  70. mim Says:

    WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.

  71. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

2 or 3 little balance checks for Simone – that wolf turn could have ended in a back tumble off the beam, but she held it and turned her balance check into a lovely arm swirl. Solid routine, despite the loooong wait for Aly’s scoring. Sweet landing. Nerves are getting to them all.

  72. mim Says:

Is Mihai inquiring for Aly’s score?

  73. Tortuga Says:

Aly is out Gabby is in. Maggie deserved it over both of them.

  74. Gymnast41 Says:

Y’all bye I’m done. Simone is queen, and everyone else is giving me literal heart attacks. Aly’s score is the trigger for this.

  75. tennisgrl456 Says:

If you want to be extra pissed, Maggie would have only needed a 12.985 on UB to qualify to the AA 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Guest Says:

Maggie may feel pissed off. 😦

    • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Thx tennisgrl456, that was my last trigger to start drinking before 5 pm. omg.

    • Tortuga Says:

I’m going to be totally white girl here, What is this?, I can’t even!

    • Gymnast41 Says:

      🙂 love it

    • TrishaG Says:

yeah, but no one had a crystal ball to know that in advance. who would have ever thought US quals would be so shaky with multiple mistakes from Aly, 4 falls overall, etc?

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

I guess what I was trying to say was that she earned a chance to compete AA in qualifications, and it APPEARS that she was denied it for political reasons. Not counting Jesolo, Maggie never finished lower than 4th AA (mostly 2nd and 3rd) in competitions (both public and camp) this year. If Marta truly gave the AA spots to the people who EARNED them, it’s likely Maggie would have qualified. She may not always have the best podium training, but she has shown this year that she thrives under pressure and has really capitalized on her strengths and worked on her weaknesses.

      • gymbot Says:

Douglas and Raisman also compete well in competition and were close to the top in the all around at multiple events, so TrishaG is spot on. We couldn’t really know if it was the right decision until quals. Still doesn’t explain why Key wasn’t on this team.

      • TrishaG Says:

Thanks, Gymbot. It’s also hard to know if Maggie would have competed the same way if she was fighting for the second AA spot. The extra pressure of trying to make AA finals could have thrown her off her game and she might have been the nervy competitor today, or just not done quite as well. Instead, she had a chip on her shoulder to prove herself today and she did great.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

I would “argue” that the pressure on Maggie (had she been competing for the second AA spot) wouldn’t have been NEARLY as intense as the pressure on either Gabby or Aly. Of course we can’t say how she would have handled the hypothetical pressure, but she literally had no “name” to live up to coming into this meet. If she had clinched the second AA spot, it would have been a MAJOR upset and far and away the biggest accomplishment of her career. She literally would have had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Aly and Gabby, on the other hand, had (and will always have) the pressure of being Olympic champions. They don’t just expect a lot from themselves, but they know that other people (a lot of times unfairly) expect a lot from them.

    • G Says:

Good grief. Way to go Marta, you’ve screwed over your 2nd best athlete in favor of your 4th best. And she’ll still medal which sucks.

    • KG Says:

      WTF!! I’m done. Done.

  76. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    Inquiry for Raismain’s score.

  77. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Scoreboard shows Biles, Douglas, Black and Raisman 1234. Oh, man. Oh, man.

    • Tortuga Says:

Oh man, I’m so happy for Canada, That’s amazing. Gabby better not be boastful in interviews after.

      • gymbot Says:

The interview was good. She’s not boastful. She’s pleased with her result, happy how her hard work is gotten her where she is and that she’ll need to work even harder.

  78. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

    Inquiry rejected.

  79. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Skinner has to be standing over there thinking, why the f am I even here? And poor, poor Maggie. Key, too. I am nauseous.

    • Sainabou Nyang Says:

Actually for skinner being alternate right now is a blessing. She did well in podium trainer. At least she doesnt have a black cloud over her head going into 2016.

      • gymbot Says:

True, but on a fiver person team, Skinner is out of luck. It’s unlikely she’ll be taken for the vault final alone. Next year, we’ll have a see of Amanars by classics and many strong floor routines and there are already many strong AA gymnasts ahead of her.

  80. mim Says:

The only silver lining here is that Aly, Maggie and Bailie will undoubtedly come out guns blazing for next year.

  81. mim Says:

Anyone here a code scoring whiz who can figure out how underscored Aly was on beam?

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I think it was probably connections and hitting 180 on some of the leaps.

    • katecoursey Says:

Yeah seriously, what happened? I know Aly has some form issues on beam, but that was a clean set and she’s scored well internationally in the past.

    • gymbot Says:

Her E score, 8.266, was only beaten by about 15 gymnasts. She’s got one of the better E scores.

Her D score is 7 tenths lower than what she presented. Her D salto plus A leaps were all kinda slow, so that could be 3 tenths. I think her layout could have been downgraded for hip position, losing the E credit for D, and the B+E 0.1 bonus. So that’s five total tenths. The last two tenths, I’m at a loss. Her leaps looked good to me and the front pike was probably good enough to get credited as a pike. The remaining possibilities are she didn’t show 45 degree angle before the switch in in her switch half, the downgrade would be 2 or 3 tenths. Losing the front pike would also be 3 tenths. In either case they would have had to credit one of the slow connections.

  82. TrishaG Says:

she had some connections that looked questionable, that’s my guess as to where she lost it.

  83. H Says:

I am exhausted. This session was just a sad story at so many levels.

  84. G Says:

I’m dying inside. That was terrible on so many levels. Poor Maggie, poor Skinner, Poor Key. Nothing made sense about this team to begin with and now look what happens as a result. If Key was here instead of GD, if Dowell had been alternate, and if Maggie had gotten to do AA…if only!

  85. the dude Says:

Ok, before you all flip out over aly (well, I am too actually) here are my observations:

    1. She is still 4th place in the world even with a fall on her worst event AND not being at her best. That says a lot

    2. You know she’ll come back and kill it for team final

    3. She’s had a fall in EVERY major event she’s been in this year (including today) and still places high

    4. First year competing since her comeback, I’d say she’s done a great job. Her mistakes are to be expected. Get them out now, not later. Sabrina Vega and Rebecca Bross anyone?

I think she’ll peak again come Rio just like she did in London. She’s living in the shadows of others, just like she has before. Mark my words, she’ll get her head back in the game come next year

    • H Says:

      Thank you! I needed that:-)

      • the dude Says:

You’re welcome! And let’s be real here; did you really think Douglas wouldn’t qualify (unless she really tanked) over aly? I mean, she is the reigning olympic champion. The headlines are SICK right now

    • mim Says:

      She’ll improve for sure!

      • the dude Says:

Aly will, afterall, walk away with a medal, if not gold, after these championships. Not bad for a comeback. No other olympic champion has done that, from the usa, I mean. I’m telling you, she’s far from out. I mean, she didn’t fuck up like dowell at least

      • gymbot Says:

I’m sure she’ll come back tougher. The all around could have gone either way, but surely not making floor final… pretty big blow. She’s actually better on floor than in 2012 in difficulty and presentation, she really had a bad day.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I’m not so much concerned about how she does but SLIGHTLY concerned about Marta’s reaction if she doesn’t kill it in TF. Part of what Marta LOVES about Aly is how reliable she is in ANY situation, and even though I know it’s no where NEAR the same magnitude, I worry that there is the remote chance that she could get ASAC-ed next year. She may have been living in the shadows of others pre-London, but she still always hit, even if her routines weren’t spectacular. This is her first year back, but she is in fantastic shape so no doubt the mistakes were mental. If I had to guess it was probably partially from being “pitted” against Gabby and being “the one” in contention for the second AA spot.

Back in London no one was expecting her to be the second AA gymnast, let alone the TOP US qualifier, so all she had to do was go out there and do her best. You could tell by her reaction then that qualifying for the AA was a shock and she was thrilled. Now it’s a bit of a different situation bc she is the most decorated American gymnast from the last Olympics. She knew that she had to beat Gabby, the events she was stronger on, and where she could lose/make up ground. It’s almost like she was facing the kind of pressure that Weiber was facing in 2012.

      • the dude Says:

Excellent points you brought up here. Well, I guess Aly is being put back to the position she was in 4 years ago. Good for her I say. Probably will work in her favor; history could very well repeat itself. However I think at this point it’s not just about being on the Olympic aa podium, bit to have that rare, historic olympic repeat

  86. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

I am by no means a GD fan, but noticed that not a single teammate was cheering for her at all on beam, when every single other team USA member was cheered on by the others. That’s gotta be tough, but she has brought it on herself with her behavior and attitude, and treatment of Chow. I can’t even bring myself to watch any of her post event interviews because I’m afraid she will talk about “getting the hardware” again. She has become completely unlikeable.

    • mim Says:

Someone recently on here brought up the team gold moment in London… Jo, Aly, McKayla and Kyla holding hands, and Gabby on her own saluting the crowd. That photo spoke volumes. I’ve never forgotten that image either and honestly I don’t think it is because the other girls are mean, jealous or nasty.

      • tulip Says:

That was me and I was disgusted by her then and am disgusted by her now. Her attitude, poor sportsmanship, behavior toward Chow and her teammates are bad enough but she’s let Natalie turn her into the same nasty piece of work that she is who behaves badly and doesn’t care about consequences. And It shows through in her gymnastics.

When Simone (who may be the most positive person on the floor and legitimately cheers for her competitors) is lukewarm toward her ownteammate, there’s a problem. But GD will blame it on everyone and anything else but her own self.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No one likes it when one person doesn’t have to play by the rules and everyone else does especially when those people do play by the rules.

Gabby may half ass her practices but at least she doesn’t claim injury and then go brag about getting coffee with friends all while she isn’t training hardly at all like some other people.

I am not defending Gabby at all. We all saw her half ass training like she is the queen and her being allowed to get away with that all because of what she did 3 years ago is pathetic but half of that is on Marta.

If Aly didn’t have to prove her worth fighting for the AA spot she too could have half ass’d the practice and been given the AA spot without having to earn it too and I will be forever convinced that is what happened here,

      • Chris Says:

@tulip I haven’t noticed any lukewarm gestures from Simone to Gabby… care to provide any examples? I saw her hi-5 Gabby after her bar set during qual

    • gymbot Says:

In PT, the “c’mon Gabby-s” were pretty weak. Most actually came from Raisman and Nichols who were in direct competition with her.

  87. Exgymgurl Says:

All Im going to say is WTF!!!! Id take healthy Kyla and Bailie Key over this hot mess…. so disappointing for everyone but Maggie Nichols who should have gotten the AA spot over Aly…

  88. Exgymgurl Says:

So Brenna Dowell wont be used in TF and this permanently banishes her back to the NCAA. Marta is going to go apeshit on Aly and Gabby and to a lesser extent Simone as her beam was problematic. So we have one in Beam, VT, two on floor and bars. No EF for Aly.

    • gymmom2 Says:

So, who do we think for team finals based on this mess?

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

        In no particular order:
        Vault: Maggie, Simone, Gabby
        Bars: Simone, Gabby, Madison
        Beam: Aly, Maggie, Simone
        Floor: Aly Maggie, Simone

      • gymbot Says:

I don’t know, Dowell or even Aly could get the vault over Gabby. I suspect Gabby only goes for landings when she needs to, I mean her ankle must have exploded on that bad vault at Pac Rims 2012 and she’s always heavily taped. Depending on AA finals, I might put Gabby on beam.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

vt aly, maggie simone ub gabby simone madison bb maggie aly simone fx aly maggie simone

  89. Lyra Gill (@lygill) Says:

So… GD’s aunt just sent a bunch of tweets my way about how I was talking crap about her niece. I tweeted yesterday that GD didn’t bring anything to the team (my opinion based on QF line-ups and I didn’t @ anyone) but apparently I was talking crap. Stayed calm and cool throughout the twitter convo. Hands down my weirdest twitter interaction ever!

  90. mim Says:

Apparently MARTA told Brenna to hurry up and compete her floor, while Mihai was telling her to wait. Poor thing!

    • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Killed by friendly fire. Poor Brenna.

      • G Says:

Lol so true. Brenna was trying so hard not to cry in the post interview, Aly looked like she was about to lose it too.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Poor Aly. I’m still so in shock. I’m not sure when I’ll get over this. This is worse than her bars meltdown at 2011 worlds. I’ve never seen her unveil so much. It’s like a lower floor score was a mood killer for her (similar to Larisa). You could tell how upset Aly was. I think Aly is one of those gymnasts that takes longer to get the skills down and get consistent so she is just not at her peak yet. But she will be next year.

But I’m not to worried about Aly’s Rio chances as long as she competes well during TF–that’s all Marta wants.

Maggie’s stock is def up. But it’s suck crap Gabby makes AA with a fall.

This team is just one big mess. And weird line-ups (a la 1992) and the pressure just got to them.

I know Aly will kill it during team finals and I’ll be here for that. #TeamAly

And Brenna. God, she makes it hard cheering for her.

In one of the shots after Brenna fell, they showed Skinner and her face said it all. “Like the f am I an alternate for this?”

Poor girls. Marta will eat them.

    • Tortuga Says:

Who has post interviews right now, I can’t find any?

      • mim Says:

Gymcastic twitter. Simone being her super upbeat, positive self. Poor Brenna looks like she needs a giant hug and a bottomless cocktail. Sigh.

      • mim Says:

Youtube too. Aly said she’s heartbroken about today, aw.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I wanted to cry with her. And Mihai can be as bad as Marta so Aly will get it twice.

      • gymbot Says:

If you watch the vault rotation, Mihai was already giving it Aly. Probably is the reason why she fell on bars.

    • tulip Says:

Marta is not the team coach. She sits in the stands. Mihai and Aimee need to be left alone to make these decisions. I really hope Marta goes away as promised. She’s not helping.

      • gymmom2 Says:

Except, if it is true that you have to go within 60 seconds or lose out, Marta actually did her a favor. Can you imagine the head case she would have been if she didn’t get to compete floor because she didn’t go in the timeframe? Then she wouldn’t have gotten the one good thing that came out of this meet for her – getting a skill named after her.

  91. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Did Maggie outscore GD on every event in which she was allowed to compete? Maggie had no major errors on beam with a 14.166 while Gabby had a huge balance check after her front tuck and then completely missed the beam on her back full and scored a 13.066.. Maggie does a nice Amanar for 15.666 while GD does a DTY netting a 15.3 in vault. Maggie scored 14.7 on floor – what was GD’s score?

Could Maggie have done better that GD’s 14.75 on UB?

Seriously, this is so bassackward – GD should have been a bars specialist and Maggie should have been AA!!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

GD scored a 14.4 on floor with nearly all stuck landings…probably the best routine I’ve seen from her this year -__- Maggie probably could have gotten mid-14s on bars, but you’re absolutely right.

  92. tennisgrl456 Says:

In happier news from that rotation, not only did the Netherlands qualify a team to finals (which means full team to Rio), but Lieke Wevers currently sits 4th in the AA (with Aly out) and Sanne Wevers is currently in 2nd on BB 🙂 Also, Eythora Thorsdottir qualified to the AA and is currently in 8th on beam so there is a SLIGHT chance she might make it through to finals.

  93. KG Says:

This is so awful. What the heck happened this worlds with everyone??? Even Simone looked visibly nervous and unsettled.

Brenna’s bar routine was devestating but necessarily out of the realm of possibilities. Marta has counted her out for good now, no doubt. No way she even touches alternate for Rio.

The only, and I mean ONLY good things are that even Simone on a rough day gets 61+, and Maggie has done herself some huge favors. I think she has majorly boosted her chances in Rio. Not sure if she’ll be on the team or not but I think she’s made herself a big part of the discussion at least!

If Aly doesn’t pick it up majorly in team finals, she will have Asac’ed herself. She might have already, honestly.

  94. gymbot Says:

    Douglas gave a good interview

    • Gymnast41 Says:

I was just about to ask if she did…she gave one good one on USAG and insidegym but her gymnastike one was terrible. What did she say?

    • KG Says:

Whiffs of smugness but wasn’t the worst

      • gymbot Says:

I agree – but she made it into the all-around, so I wouldn’t expect her to be solemn in the interview. She mentions something like she’s proud of the work, she makes a joke about falling off beam and that she wished it went better, she concludes that she’ll be putting a lot of work in to get better. She must have been watching Raisman’s interviews from the past couple of meets.

      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

“Whiffs of smugness!” I love it KG!! That is going to be my new nickname for GD – Whiffs of Smugness or WoS for short!
Gabby “Whiffs of Smugness” Douglas! hahahaha

    • Exgymgurl Says:

yeah she didnt even mention she fell on beam. I thought it was a dumb interview where she looked like a spaz

  95. gingercrush Says:

What a sad state of affairs this sport is in.

  96. JK Says:

Poor Aly. I think Gabby put something in her drink the night before. That’s the only way it makes sense to me why Aly wasn’t on her game today, haha.

And poor Brenna. I’m not a fan of her gymnastics but she looked like she was going to cry in her post-QF interview. 😦

And my wish that Gabby would not make AA finals did not come true. This Worlds officially blows.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Even though Larisa is going to be in the second or third group in the AA, I’m still holding out hope that she can turn her frustration and sadness into kickass gymnastics and clinch the silver. It’ll be a pretty tall order, but I just don’t want Simone and Gabby to go 1-2.

      • JK Says:

Yes, I hope Larisa gets it together and hits in the AA finals. Giulia too. If Gabby gets silver, my head will explode.

  97. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    Steingruber outscores Gabby! 🙂

    • gymtruthteller Says:

By how much? Gabby fell and I think Steinbgurber fell too

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Steingruber had 57.640 and Gabby had 57.516, little more than a tenth.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

hate to say this but the only person I want to beat Gabby is Larisa. Larisa Larisa Larisa, please get the silver. My only reason is so that the US could get two medals, destroy team and BB, VT, FX finals, redeem itself blah blah, but like….what would it look like for an American gymnast to be beaten by a SWISS gymnast? Like yeah if gabby loses to her she’ll be shunned forever, but I actually genuinely care for the reputation of USAG at the moment after this disaster lol.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

No. no no NO. Go Guilia 🙂

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Steingruber is the European champion and very, very solid. She can beat Gabby if Gabby doesn’t have her Amanar back, because the difficult points Gabby has over her in UB can be compensated by her expertise in vault. I don’t think it would be a dishonor to lose to her.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree and the Arrogant American opinion is not shared by all especially not at this blog.lol

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

God Giulia please beat Gabby, yeah, it’ll suck for USAG but that will help ensure Gabby won’t get close to the Rio team. She is only doing AA cause she got lucky.

Im so sad for Aly. Her tweet was awful. I want to forget today’s Aly ever happened.

        https://mobile.twitter.com/aly_raisman/status/657987322412191744

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Yeah currently I have mixed feelings about Steingruber beating Gabby in the AA. Cause if her and Larisa beat Gabby then we know good darn well that Gabby will be gone out of Marta’s radar (hopefully), and what can she say in her interviews? Oh, “everyone has to deal with disappointment?” or even better, “If only I actually had my amanar I could’ve gotten some hardware!”. My emotions are all over the place because at this point after quals, I’m like screw it, may the best win and whatever happens happens. I also want a second American to medal for the sake of Maggie, but of course the second American is the one we all wanted to be competing :).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Here is the problem with that. Gabby isn’t the best gymnast. This worlds is missing Aliya it’s missing Jao Yinnan and if Kyla had not head cased she would have been the second AA er after Gabby fell off beam. I know that is what if but when your missing 2 of the top 5 gymnasts from the last worlds and your AA total would have only put you 7th last year you don’t get credit for being the best anything. I can’t even give Gabby credit for hitting when it counts because she didn’t and her gift floor score and everyone else being over tired while she half assed the training to rest if completely unfair to Aly and Maggie who had to go all out and to Skinner who got benched. Why doesn’t Gabby have to train like everyone else and she still gets an AA spot without earning it. This is Nastia all over again and no matter how you slice it it isn;t fair so I’ll take the Swiss girl who seems like a great hard working kid over the spoiled girl who once again doesn’t have to give it her all to succeed because Marta while pointing out she idn’t giving it her all still allows her to get around the rules.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Just for the record I called Gabby making the AA with gifts days ago. I warned everyone here that the judges will do what they want and they did.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Yeah you are so so so right, and I definitely take back what I said cause quite honestly I didn’t thoroughly think through the situation until about 10 minutes until scores were final. All I’ve got to say is if Gabby is going to be in this AA final she better act like it or else I will be pissed. Because two of the BEST gymnasts of the US will be sitting there watching her, and I can’t imagine how it’ll feel for them if she just absolutely screws this up. Maggie and Aly absolutely deserved the second spot, and since Gabby earned it she better make it worthwhile. And as for the gifts thing, yes I call BS on all of that cause I rewatched all of her routines, and she certainly shouldn’t have gotten those scores especially on floor.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Don’t mind me I like to rant. You can root for whom you like and I’ll just rant about it after the toughest lunch of all time (who knew lunches could be this tough) and you can ignore me.

      • JK Says:

RE: Aly’s tweet – 😦 My heart goes out to her. And Maggie. And Brenna. And Skinner. And Bailie. And Kyla.

        Marta, you suck.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes, yes, yes, yes and YES

      • Mim Says:

Giulia is fantastic, I’d be thrilled to see her medal. I’m so impressed by her improvements over the last quad.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

no I love your rants haha

  98. Rocío Martínez López Says:

    *overscores, I think.

  99. Rocío Martínez López Says:

Spain out of the pre-Olympics again…we can’t catch a break.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Sorry to hear that

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

We can still send two gymnast though…If Roxana is healthy, she can be there. But I was re-watching some of the old Olympics and I miss the times when Spain was always in the top eight and sometimes we even grab a medal with Elena Gómez and Patricia Moreno. But there have been like 10 years since we began to decline. I think they invest some money when we organized the Olympics in Barcelona and then they stopped, so we had results for a while and, after that, darkness.

      • gymbot Says:

Hi Rocio, You can send two gymnasts to the test event, but regardless of the outcome, only one can go to the Olympics?

      • Rocío Martínez López Says:

Hi, gymbot! To be frank, I am not sure. I though we can send only one. That was happened with London; we didn’t clasiffy and only Ana Maria Izurieta was sent there. But several Spanish webpages have said that we can send two, so I am not sure if they mean two to compete against each other or two to be eligible to classify to the finals. So I am not sure if something changed or there is something I am missing, because in London we simply sent the Spanish Champion, Ana Maria, without any more preamble. 😦

  100. Ilanchik20 Says:

And Jordyn spoke. I’m glad Aly got her support!

    https://mobile.twitter.com/jordyn_wieber/status/658040075524018176

    • Guest Says:

Other than 2 finalists per country rule, I am also mad that Maggie was out of fighting a seat of AA because of limitation for 5 in 1 event. 😦

      • TrishaG Says:

That bothers me too. There should be the ability to pick the 5 gymnasts who

      • TrishaG Says:

Sorry, typing on my tablet sucks. …the 5 gymnasts who will have scores go towards team qualifications on each event with 1 score that can be dropped. Then also have the final gymnast compete on the event (if they wish) with their score only able to count towards AA qualification and not able to count for the team. If only 6 gymnasts can be on a team then let all 6 compete and have a shot at AA and EF finals. Most of the time, it’s only an issue on 1-2 events because most teams have specialists. That’s barely going to affect qualification rounds at all.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I’ll take it one step further. 5 gymnasts, all compete AA and the IOC goes away.

        I want the AAer back

  101. gingercrush Says:

Meh. It’s all Aly’s fault. All she had to do was do what she normally does. Present ugly gymnastics with no misses. And the stupid cow couldn’t help herself but fall apart. I also blame Mihai who insisted Aly does bars.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Well if Aly wouldn’t have done bars, she would be out of AA from the start so I’m glad he fought for her to be in AA. I think Aly does better when she is catching top 2 AA, not when she is one of two best

I’m thinking Mihai will change her beam for next year. Too many connections. It’s like Jo 2012, except I know Mihai is smart enough to change her beam routine (something Geddert didn’t do).

I think she will be fine in TF.

I still think Gabby is useless for a team (in terms of Rio) so her lucky AA changes nothing.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL I wouldn’t call her a cow but I said the same thing to myself.lol but think about it. Aly has been going full on beat mode since she got to Glasgow while Gabby has been living the life of riley knowing there is no pressure on her at all. It’s just wrong

    • gymtruthteller Says:

NO It’s Kyla’s fault for not being able to put together her decent routines and making this team.

  102. gingercrush Says:

Oh and this American team almost makes the 1988 and 1992 teams look delightful.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Right. Marta’s games finally got to the team and to Aly. Honestly I blame all of this on Marta. Mind games, poor line-up choices, politics, giving Gabby a pass–all her.

We have one of the deepest set of athletes right now and this is the team we got? God, really.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agreed or more like AGREED and how about Maggie scoring so well on this stage? I would have bet my life that she would have been Natasha Kellied but she wasn’t.

      • gingercrush Says:

Martha’s games always fail. They should just follow the results of the actual competitions not her silly ranch crap. It’s like when they manipulated for Maroney to be an AAer. Just does not work.

And if they had National judges that did their jobs properly then you wouldn’t be getting things like the McCool situation and Weiber with a whack beam score.

      • G Says:

What exactly went down with McCool in Athens? I know she screwed up quals but did she have a mental breakdown or something afterwards? So that they didn’t use her in team comp?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Pretty much she was complaining she was home sick and she was crying and falling apart in practices.

      • G Says:

Ah ok. Idk why but its funny to think of someone getting homesick at the Olympics because they have so much else to focus on but I guess she was just young

      • TrishaG Says:

She had a very serious injury that popped up at that point and wasn’t diagnosed until after the Olympics. It was necrosis of one of the wrist bones and it’s a super painful condition. I think she was crying from pain, but didn’t want to admit to it out of fear she’d be removed from the Olympic team. So she claimed she was homesick instead. She’s since said that the pain didn’t affect her performance in Athens at all, but I’m sure her wrist’s functionality was impaired at that point and probably couldn’t physically hold up the way it needed to for her to perform well while competing.

      • Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Thank you, TrishaG – I hadn’t read that. Unbelievable the physical pain that these athletes endure as part of their every day routines in order to reach this level – not to mention the mind f*ery that is layered on top of it. :/

  103. gingercrush Says:

Biles better watch her back. I am picturing some sabotage either by Gabby herself or her family.

  104. Katie Says:

Always reading but I never post–

I HATE that GD is in the AA. However not because Aly was who I wanted. I wanted Nichols. I know Aly is from Boston, but she is not an all around gymnast! She just isn’t. She is however, a hell of a beam and floor worker. Her form is just so bad- it’s not redeemable.

She is probably the hardest worker out there. I have no respect for GD, but Aly being allowed to do AA is what pushed Gabby into the AA final

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Yep, I wanted Nichols to do AA in qualification from the start. The fact that she didn’t is still pissing me off and I hope it’s driving her to want to be better for next year.

  105. Cupquaked Says:

I really don’t have any words for what happened today. I’m just going to go eat ice cream and cry at the unfairness of this sport.

  106. Ilanchik20 Says:

In the Gymnastike interview, Aly is just so humble. She said she went and cried to Mihai cause she is afraid to talk to Marta. She said she hopes Marta will still want her for next year. She also said she gave Larisa a hug. Gabby, learn a lesson here. I think Aly will be ok.

I hope Aly slays it in TF.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Aly will be fine. In 2011 the judges nit picked her and she went out and improved her problems. Now she knows she needs to do that again.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Add the 3 tenths to her floor and she is in the floor finals with landings she can improve. She needs to fix beam

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I hope Mihai changes her beam. Too many connections. She got 5.8D instead of 6.7 she got in the States. That’s just crazy. Her floor is fine–just too much energy.

This will actually be good for her for next year.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

Gabby sounded like she couldn’t even speak coherent english

  107. tennisgrl456 Says:

Something that has annoyed me about Gabby since 2012 is this weird attitude that she has about want to “inspire a nation” while simultaneously wanting nothing to do with leading said nation’s team.

I understand that some people are natural leaders while others have a tendency to fall more into a follower role, but strangely, Gabby doesn’t seem to fall into either of those roles, which is part of what makes her so fucking annoying. Aly clearly felt so poorly after qualification and felt like she had let the team down, yet she outscored Gabby on two events. Gabby, on the other hand, during her interview (which was by far the most tolerable one she has given) talked about how falling on beam not being what she had planned and knowing that she still had work to do, and maybe ONCE said “we” or “the team.” I don’t get it….does she REALLY not give a fuck about anyone but herself? If so, she has reached an age where she should know how to hide those feelings.

In any other situation I would find it odd that the Olympic AA Champ is not taking on more of a leadership role, but she really seems unable to relate well to people, especially her teammates. Could you imagine her trying to give a talk to her teammates to try and get the them calm and ready for a final? She’d be completely lost. She’d probably end up saying something like, “It’s okay guys, just try to be like me and you’ll do good. I used struggle and I had a tough life, but God helped me through it and now I’ve written two books, which you might have read. There has also been a Lifetime movie made about my life and my historic AA win in London. Alright, time for a prayer circle.”

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Please tell me she didn’t really say that about the books.lol

SAVE YOUR SANITY. Don’t watch her interviews. I refuse too.

Lets just hope Guila and Larisa come through in the AA and put her ass in 4th place.

I am so over karma. It’s supposed to take out the people that act like Gabby but instead it killed Aly and Maggie.

The gymnastics God has been asleep for 8 years. Maybe he’s hanging out with this years Basbeall God.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

Hahaha…no she didn’t say any of those things. I was making fun of the fact that I could never see her ACTUALLY “inspiring” her team and made up what she would prob end up saying if she tried to be more of a “team player.”

I did watch the interviews. Brenna’s and Aly’s were heartbreaking, Gabby seemed pretty pleased overall, Madison seemed happy with how she did bars, Simone talked about focusing on qualifying and team finals first, then moving on the the AA, etc, and how she thinks their performance today was hindered by the fact that they are all mentally stretched to their limits (basically a VERY subtle jab at Marta and the death camps), and Maggie was remarkably composed and talked about how excited she was to get to perform on a world stage and how thrilled she was to make floor finals given the depth of team USA and how she couldn’t wait for to compete in TF and floor finals and how she was having an amazing time, etc.

      • mim Says:

Maggie seemed remarkably relaxed. After the USA team was introduced in the stadium, she was actually dancing along to the music before they walked up the podium for floor, making a shocked Brenna crack up. That’s someone I’d want around in a high pressure situation! And it bodes well for her that she can handle the pressure.

    • Gym Obsessed Says:

Tennisgrl – Interesting point about Gabby’s lack of leadership. I never thought about it, but you’re right – she should be in that space at this point of her career and she certainly doesn’t seem to be.

      • Tulip Says:

She simply doesn’t appear to be a team player. Those type of people exist. I’ve had to manage them and boy can they be challenging. I manage teams of consultants and my attitude is that we are all there to provide the best work to our clients as a team. By doing good work and helping our team succeed, they help their careers. I’ve had too many talks and had to follow up in writing too often where people can’t get that concept.

  108. H Says:

Why is there not an interview with Marta??
    Are they in hiding???

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Marta need to have a sit down with Simone, she needs to grab Aly and Gabby’s faces and give them a stern talking to, and then she needs to make Brenna’s passport disappear bc she will never allow her face to be seen on US soil/be associated with USA gymnastics again.

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

I still can’t believe she let Brenna do bars. She KNOWS from the past that Brenna hits and hits and hits in training but basically never puts in together in actual competition. What in god’s name made Marta think that Brenna would be able to hit and the world fucking championships??

      • JK Says:

I don’t know how Brenna made the team – I thought she should have been alternate. Having said that though, I felt so bad for her today. I hope she feels better soon.

Maybe having Brenna as one of the team’s bars specialist gave Marta an excuse to take Maggie out of AA quals? Bars was the only event she didn’t do and they’re not terrible.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Yep

      • Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

In all fairness didnt she hit all her routines for OU this season.

      • mim Says:

She must have been hitting everything in practice.

      • Gym Obsessed Says:

I wonder if the floor music fiasco set Brenna off for a bad day? Or pressure of Aly not hitting and knowing they’d want to toss Aly’s score? I’m stretching for it, but I really was rooting for her. I am 99% sure Martha will ditch her in team finals, and she should, but I was really sad when she didn’t hit it.

Also… I am hoping that they’re sad they don’t have a beamer like Kyla or Alyssa right now. I thought all along that this was a weak beam team and it definitely is.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I think the floor messed up both Brenna and Aly. For diff reasons but that’s my theory. Aly said this was her worst meet ever and she is afraid Marta won’t get now. It’s so sad because Gabby thinks that Marta still wants her no matter what’s and that’s unfortunate. Aly’s confidence is just not quite there yet but I’m certain it’ll be there next year.

They need some beamers. I’m hoping Norah comes back with s killer beam set next year. At least a that’s the silver lining.

      • Gym Obsessed Says:

        I completely agree Ilanchik20.

      • TrishaG Says:

Yes, she hit bars for OU and she’d been doing really well in practice. well enough to earn the anchor spot over Madison. I think it was the combination of her floor music and Aly’s fall that got her jittery. She held on in that routine for a long time before falling, she really fought for it even after redoing skills, improvising, etc. Her routine got too long and too tiring. I don’t think she’d have fallen the 2nd time if she hadn’t used up so much energy already.

I hope she does go up on UB in TF. I don’t think it’s too likely and i know few will agree with me on this, but i think she’ll go beast mode to redeem herself and will do great. We have enough points over the other teams that we’d still win in case she falls so put her in the lineup.

  109. gingercrush Says:

I’ve decided I don’t want Biles to win vault. Until that second vault is upgraded she doesn’t deserve it.

  110. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

Aly’s leaps were horrible today. Usually she just barely hits 180, but I swear she was short on all of them.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I’m guessing Mihai told her that if she hits beam, she can still make AA (after Gabby’s fall), so she was determined to stay on. She was just too tentative in that routine but I still think 14.1 (or whatever she got), is still way too low.

Does anyone know what exactly he protested?

But that OOB on floor. Ugh. It would have been far less painful, if she had at least made floor finals but Maggie def deserved it today.

  111. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

tried to watch the Kwan interview. Didn’t make it

    • mim Says:

Dickson came across as totally sweet, young and naive. Kwan seemed a bit more savvy and defensive. Just my interpretation on it.

  112. JAS4 Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Penny was behind Maggie not doing AA just to make sure Gabby or Aly made it into the AA finals. I imagine he wanted Gabby so they can hype a Simone vs Gabby rivalry and Aly was the back up because she still draws lots of attention for USAG. I think I read somewhere that Maggie would have only needed a 12.85 on bars or something like that to make AA finals over Gabby. I feel bad for Maggie and for Mykayla because both had a really good chance at medaling of they hit (Maggie-AA and MyKayla VT and possibly floor). I would love it if Maggie could get a FX medal though!

    • gymbot Says:

Even the FIG is framing GD’s comeback as a rivalry in their wrap up of the women’s competition: http://www.fig-gymnastics.com/site/figNews/view?id=1357

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

        Ugh. Hate politics. Fig, oh.

Gabby shouldn’t even be in that AA. If Gabby gets silver, I can’t wait for Simone to be 3+ ahead of her. But better yet, hopefully Larissa and Giulia bring their A game and Gabby can end up in that 4th place. I wonder what she’ll say then.

On that note, most likely Aly will be doing 3 events in TF while Gabby does one. So regardless of AA, Aly is much more useful to the team so I’m okay with that.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby will still probably do Beam too

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

There is no way Marta is letting Gabby do beam in TF after she fell in QF. And if she does, she is on crack. God, this team needs some beamers. I can’t wait for Norah next year 🙂

I think it’ll be Aly, Maggie, Simone on beam or Maggie, Aly, Simone.

Missing all your connections is far better than falling Lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

We will see. We will see. 🙂 when do we find out anyway ?

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Probably 24 hours before TF. So maybe Monday but I’m just guessing at this point.

If Marta uses Gabby on beam over Aly or uses Gabby on beam at all, Marta is officially on crack. If that happens, Aly should run away to Israel or Romania. Apparently, in some interview, Aly said she has some Romanian roots lol

      • gymbot Says:

I will play devil’s advocate and agree with GTT. Douglas will go on beam over Nichols or Raisman. Nichols and Raisman will compete for lead off.

Raisman I feel is demoted to lead-off because the judges had problem with her D score. That can’t be fixed, but Douglas can stay on the beam.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I just looked at the beam scores. Aly got 14.066 and Gabby got 13.066 so basically the fall is the difference. Aly can hit her connections and her score can go up dramatically; even if Gabby stays on, her score will only a change a little (in execution). So I stilll think Gabby should be off beam.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby missed connections too but she still got some gifts. Aly got nothing in extras but Gabby did

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Gabby got gifts, Aly didn’t (what else is new?). Aly should be going on beam because 1) she will stay on that beam; 2) even with Gabby’s gifts she doesn’t out score Aly so Gabby has no business doing beam in TF..

Actually Gabby has no business being on this team but we already talked about that lol

But honestly, I think Marta is on crack this whole Worlds so I wouldn’t be surprised if she put Gabby and Aly and takes our Maggie

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Kind of funny we are trying to figure out what Marta is thinking. Like we can ever figure that out

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby will get mid 14’s if she hits because these judges Are smoking Crack. I don’t want to see it. I don’t think it’s deserved but look what they did for Simone who had hwr worst beam in forever. These beam judges are nuts

      • gymbot Says:

It has to be Steve Penny as well… not defending the decisions.

Both can score higher but Aly has more to fix than Douglas on beam in two days, plus she needs to regain her mental game and fix floor and vault. On top of the score bias… all signs point to her on beam over Aly. But agree to disagree?

No way to know for sure, but so much fun to agonize over. Since worlds started I have gotten nothing done.

  113. sanitynmotion Says:

My only take away from all this is that unlike the 2011 world’s team (which made up the London team), there’s no way in he’ll this team can represent Rio.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I agree. There is no way most of these people will be in Rio. They don’t work on a team individually or together.

If Maddie manages a bars medal, she’ll do herself a favor but I doubt it’ll get to Rio (maybe as an alternate).

I say Simone will be there (unless lighting strikes). Gabby will prob be there unless she dissapears into thin air (or starts to implode like Nastia did) and Aly (if she fixes her beam issues (which I think she will). The other two–no clue. It could be anyone. But the stock for Maggie, Bailie, Reagan and healthy Kyla and Norah is def up.

      • mim Says:

It will be really interesting to see if Ashton or Norah can challenge Maddie on bars. If Ashton focused on beam, it could be her and Norah battling out for a “Kyla” spot, although I want the actual Kyla to have it!

  114. Guest Says:

Just hope that Aly can make a comeback at Team Final like what Wieber did in London.

I think Aly also needs to seriously think should she keep training UB for AA and give a seat to Maggie or other new senior talented girls to fight for the second AA shot so that she can put more focus on FX / BB which she has more chance for medals. 😦

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

I think Aly should keep training bars. She may never compete them in TF but Marta likes her choices on a 5 member team. If someone were to go down, Aly can still put up s usable bar score. Yesterday, even with her fall, they counted her score. You just never know what can happen.

Reagan basically has Aly’s events (with crapy bars) so if the two will be competing for the same spot, Aly dropping bars would be a bad idea.

Kyla, on the other hand, should def focus on beam/floor. There is just no way we’ll ever use her vault. We have too many vaulters.

  115. H Says:

I think it was RRG who mentioned that if Simone was not on the team, Russia would have been number one in qualification. In other words team USA is heavily leaning/needing Simons scores to be best. Personally I am missing an interview with Marta. What is her reflections of this competition … ?

    • the dude Says:

I doubt that. Maybe closer to the lead, but not surpassing. The Russians stepped up without mustafina. Americans would’ve done the same. The problem with yesterday was it wasn’t a team competition; they were competing against each other

    • gymbot Says:

What RRG wrote is if you simply eliminate Biles and use the remaining scores to determine either 4 counting scores or 3 counting scores, Russia comes out on top.

It’s a useless exercise, since the US wouldn’t have competed 5 up 4 count with only four gymnasts… similarly, she’s not removing Russia’s tops scores on three events and the third best score on bars and doing the same analysis – so it’s not controlled….

  116. gymmom2 Says:

Someone might ask her not only about how they did, but did she regret her selection. My guess is you won’t hear from her until after it’s all over. It will be interesting to see who she does put up on finals on each event and how much how they did in prelims will impact it. And if they were mentally stretched now, wonder what mind games will happen between now and team and event finals. It will be a long week for some of those girls.

  117. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

If I understand the test event qualifiers right Belarus only qualified one to the test event.

    • gymbot Says:

They should only have one. Similarly, although Spain had a full team at these championships, they will only have one qualifier at the Test Event.

Teams ranked 9-16 will attempt to qualify full teams, but at the test event, the bottom 4 full teams will only be able to send one athlete to the games.

  118. Ilanchik20 Says:

I don’t know if this photo means anything but guess who is missing?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Brenna isn’t touching the floor in team finals we know that but this is an interesting picture.

What did they do bound and tie Brenna to the hotel room?

    • Gymnast41 Says:

“she’s taking the picture” lol. But really, I’m surprised that Gabby is in the picture considering she’s typically MIA for most pics in the past. Poor brenna 😦

    • gymbot Says:

Kocian was also missing from pictures in PT prompting speculation that she was the alternate.

But yes, poor Brenna. Maybe she’ll help chalk bars and cheer… if only she smashed the crap out of those bars.

    • G Says:

I’m imagining Brenna locked in the chokey from the movie Matilda.

  119. Dee Says:

It has taken me since the live stream yesterday to come to terms that Gabby is back, and the gifts continue to be rained down on her. I know she “hit” and “beat” Aly, but has anyone ever noticed she ALWAYS wins due to circumstance? I am not even kidding, FIG is just going to walk out on the floor during AA finals and hand her the gold. Would anyone be surprised at this point?

I feel bad for Brenna, but my feeling is that floor did not unravel her enough to cause that bar routine. If you can do a floor routine at Worlds with no music and Marta barking at you and hit and get a skill named after you, then you ARE mentally tough and I don’t think that contributed to bars at all. I think there has been so much hype and tension surrounding her bar routine (she KNOWS she MUST hit it or bye bye everything) that she psyches herself out. Hate to say it but…she really should just go back to college and enjoy her time there. Why go through the trials and everything leading up to Rio just to hear the other girls’ names called? I truly believe after this she is out of contention. I think Marta brought her because she hits in practice and she left school to try one more time.

It will be hard for me to watch AA finals. ugh.

    • Sainabou Nyang Says:

Exactly. Her music not starting should nit have rattled her like that. I think she simply let nerves get to her.

  120. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

gabby does always win due to circumstance just like nastia won because of her last name.

  121. Melanie Says:

Here’s an interesting tidbit – if Vika had put a floor routine up with even a 13.0 score, she would have qualified ahead of Gabby and Giulia. And I’m supposed to be amazed by Gabby’s comeback?

    • G Says:

Oh how I wish she had.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t even care. I hope Vika beast modes it and takes stupid GD off any sort of theoretical podium. She doesn’t deserve to be there, just like she didn’t deserve to be in the AA at the Olympics for how she performed at Quals.

Must be nice to just be given everything.

And then her attitude on top of it all…all smug and sh*t…I really won’t stand it if she’s on that Rio team.

    • KG Says:

I wish she had!! I think her gymnastics are absolutely beautiful.

  122. tennisgrl456 Says:

And we have our official TF line up:
    VT: Douglas, Nichols, Biles
    UB: Nichols, Douglas, Kocian
    BB: Nichols, Raisman, Biles
    FX: Nichols, Raisman, Biles

I was pretty close with my prediction…I just had Simone over Maggie on bars (since we never got a chance to SEE Maggie compete bars, MARTA), but it’s definitely smart to rest her. And it would be stupid as hell to trust Brenna on bars again. Ever. (At least on the elite level)

    • Tortuga Says:

It will be interesting to see how Maggie handles the pressure of AA in TF, and compare scores.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Well Maggie gets to do AA after all LOL. Oh, Marta.

        Poor Maggie.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

Ehh…I don’t think it’s really possible/fair to compare scores across AA comps, even if they are taking place within the same meet. We know that in the qualifying GD was given some gifts while Aly was hammered. I can assume that the judges scored Maggie pretty fairly bc they didn’t need to make sure that she didn’t make the AA, as she was only competing three events.

Now that she is in the position of being the only gymnast to compete the AA in TF, even if she hits 4 for 4, the judges could very well low ball her so that team GD and Steve Penny can say, “SEE, she wouldn’t have made the AA over Gabby!” They have Gabby’s scores from qualification, they could literally work it out so that Maggie scores something like .001 less than Gabby did in qualifying, despite the quality of her routines.

So while I am interested to see how she handles the pressure, I really can’t say that comparing the scores would be fair. I want to see them (eventually) duke it out, head to head, with NON Marta pre-selected camp judges 😉

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Well this just goes to show none of the judges (camp, worlds, US, Olympics) do their jobs. It shouldn’t be about the name, it should be about the routine.

But we know Olympics judges are super biased too – look at how they scored Ponor on floor and beam in London quals. And also how they deducted for Wieber on beam but not Gabby, and treated Gabby’s mess up on floor much less so than they treated Weiber’s mess up.

I can go on. I’m so angry though. At least on the US Gym Twitter page other people are catching on to the bias and the unfairness of it all.

Like, OK so “now” Maggie is doing AA? And GD only doing two events – one of which honestly Skinner should be doing if she weren’t the alternate.

Why don’t I run this stupid ass team. I would have not even put Brenna on it (sorry Brenna fans) and I would have had Key there. I would have ousted Gabby totally and put in Kyla.

TF line up, say Kyla is the alternate (she’s injured, whatever – at least she gets the medal she deserves and the team unity is better):

VT: Nichols, Skinner, Biles (Key, Raisman can perform in Quals)
UB: Nichols, Key, Kocian (Biles, Raisman)
BB: Key, Biles, Raisman (Nichols, Skinner)
FE: Key, Raisman, Biles (Nichols, Skinner)

Nichols, Raisman, and Biles would have had a deserved shot at the AA.

Also, this probably would have posted a higher total score than what we’ll get Tuesday. Where’s my check, USAG?

Ugh. I’m so mad. Why am I so mad when this totally should have been expected.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

This is such horses*it. Now that the politics are out, we have Nichols doing the AA in team finals when she wasn’t given the chance to even go for the AA in Quals. Plain as day the BS that Marta/Penny were doing at the expense of under-age young women who have lived for this sport. I hope the powers that be get a huge backlash, but that seems to never happen. They continue doing what they want and the parents/coaches/athletes have no choice but to support it.

Just one of the reasons why I would never put my kid in such a biased asinine sport like gymnastics or figure skating.

So Douglas was taken on this team for UB, when she didn’t even place top 3 at nationals? Why didn’t they take Kyla then, who has a much better DTY than Douglas?

This tells me if Kyla wants a shot, she needs to just drop floor and focus on all the other apparatuses, continue her pretty DTY and really go insane on beam/bars.

Key – you plainly got screwed so the US could have their “Olympic comeback” story that really isn’t such a story. GD is only ranked in the top 4 at these worlds because THE COMPETITIVE FIELD SUCKS and no other country has anyone that is even as good as the US’ fourth-best all arounder. OK, maybe I’m a little over exaggerating, but not by much. Iordache bombed and the other person is a Canadian and I don’t even know who they are.

      • KG Says:

Ugh. so agree with all of this. Poor Maggie, Kyla, Bailie, and even MyKayla…

      • Dee Says:

agh Sanity my husband says the same thing as you about putting a kid in gymnastics. He does not understand why anyone would want to be part of a subjective sport where the human eye is used to judge who is best.

I am so peeved about the whole Gabby thing becuase I truly think that she came back just to try to grab some more endorsements before it all dries up for her after Rio. It’s no secret that if Simone wins that AA title she is going to be the super darling of America. I think she will be bigger than Shawn was/is(?). I just have found it sketchy the past few Olympic cycles that all these big names come crawling out of the wood work about 1.5 years prior to the Games….I really think it’s because most endorsements have dried up and the focus is now on the next team and new crop of hopefuls. Come back because you really want to (and I believe a select FEW, very few come back for the love of it all), not because you want to try to cash in one more time. Just IMO.

  123. Gymnast41 Says:

Totally speechless after TF were released because this was exactly the lineup I predicted…I just though I was wrong. LOL at Marta. Shame on you, and poor brenna has been forever shunned from the world of gymnastics because Marta gave her the opportunity to make a full of herself on a world stage. I really hope Maggie will be okay under all of the pressure though. If she hits all 4…I think she will definitely be a rio contender. However I’m glad Marta did this just so that the world could see who truly is the second AA’er for the US. NOT gabby.

    • hobarttdavid Says:

I’ll speculate that Marta did this to: (1) let Maggie prove herself internationally; (2) let the int’l judges see more of Maggie; (3) show that Marta has confidence in Maggie; and (4) try to make it look like it was all Penny who pulled Maggie from AA and play up the Olympic champs comeback bullshit.

If Maggie hits, it’s college for Kyla, because it won’t be Rio.

  124. Gymbee Says:

Epke Zonderland is not in the HB final 😦

    • the dude Says:

I know ya’ll are not crazy about him, but Leyva killed it today and I heard that Yin said “cono” (fuck in spanish) at some point today when one of the boys biffed 😁😁😁

  125. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

Sound like the Romanian Olympic committee is finally putting the smack down on the rom gym federation.
They want an outside bars coach.

  126. Ilanchik20 Says:

Not sure how true it is, but supposedly Marta may have removed Brenna from the team all together. The U.S is allowed 3 reserves for each event but she chose to only list two (which means Brenna will be in the stands). Not that just seems spiteful. Oh poor Brenna.

  127. sanitynmotion Says:

I just have to say there’s no way this would really be our Worlds team this year had the rest of the world been better competitively. No way.

Key and Ross are almost needed on this team. Even a not-so-healthy Ross with her watered down routines.

  128. sanitynmotion Says:

Even Simone did not look like Simone when it came to her beam set. There’s something going on with this team – no chemistry, and probably all have some angst against the unfairness. This is when Marta’s games potentially ruin an otherwise good thing. The US should be super dominant, and while they are because the rest of the world sucks right now, if the rest of the world didn’t suck as much we’d be in trouble. Like if this team were competing in 2010…
