Earned VS Deserved VS Best for the team VS……….

Don’t forget to vote for who you think will win the AA and EF at Worlds.

Before I start this rant I just have to add this little diddy to the blog. Hey suspended and ban a guy for getting caught cheating then let him run for fucking President of the IOC? How fucked up is this. Excuse my French ( the pun was VERY much intended)

This article needed to be added. I originally got it from Gymnastics coaching. I love you Kohei thanks for making men’s gymnastics worth watching.

Earned VS Deserved VS Best for the team VS……….

When talking about who should be doing the AA for the US after Simone at these Worlds I have seen the words, Earned VS Deserved VS Best for the team thrown around about a million times( Give or take a few 100 thousand) but the one word I haven’t heard is fair.

You have rules. You compete under rules You say the competition at camp WILL be the defining factor when picking a team and then you have the competition. You then choose the team based on the best line ups and bam you’re at worlds training. Then you compete. You win some medals, if you’re lucky and you go home and train for the next competition.

It’s all over in a matter of days and then you just move on. Well unless your the gymnast who finished second on vault and third on floor but are used as alternate because the HBIC wants 2 UB specialists competing when it isn’t necessary.

Unless you’re the girl who finished second in the AA and EARNED the chance to compete AA but are losing that EARNED right because 2 girls on the team are former Olympic Gold medalists and one of you hasn’t been living up to that gold medal but hey Steve Penny wants you doing the AA anyway.

Lets just say I am kind of pissed about all of this. Skinner has a great chance to not only win a medal on vault but come home with the gold medal yet she doesn’t get to compete because for some reason Marta has it in her head she needs 2 UB specialists that at best are top 8 if everyone hit and only top 8 because the three girls who won the medals last year aren’t competing this year. If the US sneak into the medals this year it will be by major default.

And don’t get me started on Maggie Nichols. She has been the second best All Arounder for the entire year and she gets benched due not one but TWO one event gymnasts?

I can’t really argue with Aly being put in the AA ahead of Maggie because to be honest if she hits that beam and floor routine like she has been in training she will easily be ahead of Maggie when all is said and done in the standings but it still doesn’t make it right. Maggie has beaten Aly at every turn leading up to this point and why bother having rules if you don’t have to follow them.

No offense to Brenna Dowell because I like not only her but her bar routine and this whole situation is just an unfair mess but the fact of the matter is hitting one routine shouldn’t be enough to put her on this team not when everyone that she competed with has been doing it all year and as much as I despise Wogaette’s with bad attitudes Kocian has consistently been hitting and earned her right to be here which brings us to the real issue with all of this and that is Marta’s Karolyi and her games.

The camp competition is what really matters. It’s the “reason” Bailie Key isn’t here. It’s the reason Brenna Dowell made the team and it’s the reason this team was put together in the first place but for some reason this competition only means something when it suits Marta’s idea of a team. Like Brenna being in but what about Maggie and hitting when it matter’s ? Why is her earned right to compete the AA not being honored but Brenna’s is? What about Skinner EARNING her place on this team by beating Simone at Vault and finishing third on floor at camp? yet BOTH of these gymnasts have been forced to downgrade routines they have been hitting and now both have lost chances to compete what they earned.

Now there is one person in all of this that hasn’t been mentioned and that is Gabby Douglas. Like most of you what I have seen from her in training hasn’t been very impressive. The so called Amanar “people” insisted was amazing at camp has all of a sudden turned into a bouncy DTY because she can’t land it on her feet. Her beam and floor have also been below average and in many people’s opinion not worthy of top 3 in team finals so answer me this why is she here, competing the AA why the one girl who hit all year is being left on the cutting room floor? With Simone’s start value only being 1 less tenth than Gabby and 2 BAR SPECIALISTS why is Gabby’s in the middle bar routine on this team?

I know I hate Gabby and there for have issues with anything she does (blah, blah, blah) but this question needs to be addressed. Where does she fit on this team with only one good event when that event is now being filled with 2 bar specialists.

Now while I think Gabby has looked below average at practice and I wonder how she will compete she could be saving herself for a very long week. The fact is we don’t know what Gabby will bring to the table when it matters but she should have to earn her right here like everyone else but it’s clear she hasn’t been doing that during practice .

Someone in the comment section made a point about how Gabby doesn’t seem to be giving it everything she has in training while everyone else is being forced to do just that and this is extremely unfair to every other member of this team. They are being forced to compete for spots while Gabby has been given the insider info that no matter what she does her spot is safe, earned or not. Nastia was given the same exact free pass in 2012. Wonder if it will work out the same way.

Rant over for now.

  1. Emmy Says:

Lauren didn’t know Skinner was alternate a week ago so pretending she has known all along is lies. She openly admits that she gets her info from level 10 gym mom’s and the rest of the info she gets is from stalking gymnasts. I know a few gymnasts who are creeped out by her obsession with them. People need to stop quoting her as gospel.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

People also need to leave her out of my blog. No offense but I keep getting e-mail that she is bad mouthing me and accusing me of harassing her and I have no clue what the hell she is talking about nor do I care. I am sick of hearing her name when I literally have no fucking idea who the hell she is so excuse the freak out but I am over this day.

  2. Melanie Says:

Ugh, my blood is boiling. I’m about to leave work to go coach gymnastics, and all the little gymnasts just LOVE Gabby and don’t understand why I wouldn’t like her. The reasons you stated in your final two paragraphs are the reason. She is an entitled brat, and Maggie Nichols … I don’t see why people aren’t even more upset for her than they were for Brenna. Maggie got cheated out of Worlds last year after Marta sent her to Pan Ams, when she’d been consistent ALL year and could have helped the team instead of weakling Kocian, and now she’s being cheated out of AA.

  3. Gymnast41 Says:

This rant was much needed for the WTF’ery that is this worlds. The gabby stans insist that she’s keeping her amanar/ “this is typical gabby PT blah blah” but LOOK PEOPLE ITS WORLDS AND SHES SUPPOSED TO GIVE 100% 100% of the time. But honestly the one thing I can’t get over is MAGGIE. Marta clearly wanted her to do AA in the beginning, she freaking beat Aly all year and Gabby in the one meet that had fair(ish) scoring, but she can’t do AA because Mr. Steve penny wants the Olympic champions to replace her. I know Maggie’s ultimate goal was to compete AA,and it breaks my heart that gabby, who clearly doesn’t deserve it, NOR will even qualify for AA in the get go will compete over someone who proved herself to compete AA.

But the the specialist situation, no comment. Just an addition to the WTF’ery that Marta is creating and I don’t understand.

    Rant over🙂

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I could see the judges giving Gabby the second AA spot. They always over score her beam and floor.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

I’ll believe it when I see it…Aly is clearly the better all around gymnast, but who knows what could happen.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is the whole point. We don’t know what these judges will do. Judges in year before Olympics are usually a little nit picky but we will see.

  4. Dee Says:

Love Maggie, she has improved so much and yet she gets screwed. She looked so good all season, while Gabby shows up, throws a crap Amanar and some level 10 routines on all the other events and gets to actually be considered for AA. At this point I won’t even be surprised if the FIG walks out and just hands her the AA gold over Simone…I dont’ get it!!! I think at this point I’m just over comeback girls…you had your shot and with the depth we have right now just let others have a chance! My blood pressure is skyrocketing just thinking about all of this LOL and it really has nothing to do with me

    • Dee Says:

And i am not bashing on level 10 gymnasts, it’s just that this is the ELITE LEVEL WORLDS and Gabby does not look like she’s at that level right now and FFS i am so mad!!!!

  5. Gymbot Says:

Rant well said. But if gabby blows in quals, she could be left off for rio. That would open up a spot for Maggie and Bailie

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t see Maggie on the Rio team when she’s obviously being so “easily” set aside. She’ll be next year’s Ebee.

The way I see it this team screams for beam/bar workers. Those will be the in-fills for Rio next year.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Maggie might be alternate but unless these judges at worlds fall in love with her like they have Aly she won’t be on a 5 member team

      • mim Says:

Stranger thinks have happened. Even if her form isn’t perfect, she has nice presentation and the tall, long legs, graceful thing is always a good sell.

  6. sanitynmotion Says:

I am hoping this might just end up where Gabby blows it, giving Marta a reason to leave her out of Rio. I don’t know where Marta’s head is at and I’m not sure who to blame, Marta? Penny? Both?

So I am guessing that Skinner was named alternate and Simone, Aly, and Gabby are competing for the AA. Maggie got short changed.

This whole team is odd, and I know everyone’s said that. It doesn’t make sense to focus on an apparatus that the US is the weakest in (bars) for the sake of giving up potential medals on floor and vault. Although I hate Skinner’s gymnastics, but like GTT said she earned this spot.

Gabby has yet to earn anything.

Aly I can understand, but if she does what she normally does (beast modes it in Quals and falls in Finals) I will scream. Aly’s had so many AA chances and she’s chucked all of them when push comes to shove.

  7. Tortuga Says:

I love everything about this post. I may have come off as rude earlier because I’d been reading tumblr posts of people that still think Maggie should be alternate and Gabby will get the second AA spot. I guess I’m just annoyed because we are a year out from the Olympics and I see veteran favoritism already and I’m flipping out about it. I don’t know what I’m going to do next year. I need xanax or something to just not give a shit. Qualifications is going to be so more exciting than basically any final this year. Thanks for keeping me grounded guys.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

People better get prepared for the gifts Gabby will get on floor and beam and even bars. It’s going to happen.

Maggie earned the right to do AA by Marta’s rules and if we are taking Maggie out of the AA because her bars and beam are not top then Gabby shouldn’t even be here because her she isn’t top 3 on any event. Everyone including Kocian is better on vault. She’s 4th on bars and should be behind even Dowell on floor. Her beam if she hits and gets credit for that atrocious switch ring might be top 3 but that is IF

  8. KG Says:

Thank you for this post. Seriously.

Gabby right now reminds me of musty, in the whole way that she looks like she’s not giving it her all since it “doesn’t count”. However, when musty does it (not that i think it’s okay) she literally is carrying the whole team minus maybe Afan on floor, Komova on bars, and paseka on vault. Gabby does not carry team USA. Everyone as we have seen, minus Simone this quad, can and has been replaced. Gabby is not carrying even one single event. Middle of the pack on everything at best.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah, I don’t get it. Gabby’s obviously not in tip-top shape and if it were anyone else, she wouldn’t have been near this world team. I know the difference between 2012 and 2015 Gabby (as does all honest gym fans) and it’s quite obvious.
What makes me angry is that Gabby supposedly has an amanar, and that was a “valid” reason for her inclusion on this team (relative to Key I guess), but she obviously doesn’t, and someone was making up crap about camp or it was a one-time fluke at camp. Her DTY vault isn’t even that solid so I can’t believe she really has her amanar back.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Same with Brenna. Where is her Amanar? Oh wait it hasn’t existed either

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I don’t get her on this team at all. Her bars leave something to be desired form-wise – she would have to hope that at least 3 other gals have major mistakes for her to medal. I’m not sure why Marta has Brenna out there. Her floor? I mean, I love her front tumbling but some of her landings were really shaky and I don’t know what her D value is, but it doesn’t seem to be too high.

I mean the US is a powerhouse on floor with Simone, Aly, Skinner – even Maggie and oh yeah, KEY…even GD with her gift scoring can get a decent score here. Just don’t understand how Brenna is on this team for her floor…or her bars…I don’t understand anything!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

LOL Don’t feel alone none of us understand anything anymore

      • JK Says:

I’m still scratching my head at how Brenna made the team too. If she did have an Amanar, it would make a bit more sense to me but since she doesn’t… WTF? There had to be some Marta politics at play here. But I honestly can’t think of anything except for some pretty out there theories that’s making me go around in circles. I get so confused trying to think how Marta thinks, it’s making me crazy.

And Marta seriously has to be on crack if she thinks Brenna has a chance at medaling at Bars EF. There would literally have to be an earthquake during all the other girls’ routines for that to happen.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Maybe not Brenna has a 6.7 start value she could sneak in for a medal especially if all these new Chinese gymnasts are inconsistent

      • JK Says:

Maybe… but from PT, Kocian has a 6.6 SV and if keeps her upgrade, I think she could outscore Brenna’s 6.7 in EF (if both make it). I don’t think it’s likely that both will make the podium though. Having watching the Chinese girls’ bars from PT, I’m not too sure any one of them are locks (maybe Shang Chunsong?) – inconsistency is definitely a possibility from the newer girls. But there’s two Russian girls – Spiridonova and Komova – that could end up 1 and 2. So that would leave a third spot and I think Kocian has the advantage over Brenna.

Of course, this all depends if any of these girls make qualifications – Brenna and Kocian (both known for their inconsistencies) included.

  9. G Says:

I love this post. Why does someone have to get screwed over every freaking worlds? It sucks that it’s Maggie because she improves so much and worked so hard!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

They need to start guaranteeing 2 AA gymnasts from these camps and then pick individuals

  10. Short1 Says:

Pretty much yes to all of this. I think what gets me the most is how the criteria/determining factor(s) for making a team or moving on in the selection process (like in 2012) seem to change whenever it’s convenient (whether that be to keep certain gymnasts in or out of contention).

    • sanitynmotion Says:

The other sucky thing about all this is that it gives the people like Kyla more verification to just say eff it and move on with their lives.

      • Short1 Says:

Yeah. Maybe it’s just me, but I kind of feel like there have been more gymnasts this quad who have decided against making a go at Rio in favor of going off to college and competing NCAA (which is certainly understandable).

  11. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

You summarized everything beautifully with your rant, GTT. Maggie has had such a fantastic year, and it stinks that she is being shortchanged. I’ve said plenty about GD and agree with everything you ranted about, so no more on that dead horse.

I will add that international judges have historically loved Bailie and scored her much higher than US judges. With the crappy beam PT the US has shown, Bailie could have really made a difference there. And certainly her bars are more impressive than Gabby’s, Skinner’s or Aly’s.

This whole thing is shaping up to be more convoluted than one of the more nonsensical episodes of “Lost.” No strategy, no reason, no logical rationale. Maybe Marta should retire. We have lost the plot.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

A Lost reference. This conversation could take years but I can’t right now so I’ll just ignore the way those people ruined 6 years of my life.

Oh right gymnastics. Um I don’t trust judges,

  12. Ilanchik20 Says:

Thank you for the rant. This whole team makes so little sense.

It’s previous they have little chemistry–not like 2011 team at all. Even 2007 was better. This tells me it’ll change significantly next year. They are going to take a team to rio that’s blends well together so they can sell the whole “we are best friend” thing. It’s pretty this team is anything but. Simone and Maggie are bff and then there is Aly but that’s it as far as “friends go.”

I’m still trying to figure out why on earth skinner is the alternate. An AA’er that’s not amazing anywhere (read Gabby) should be the alternate.

    My three theories:
    1) USAG or penny doesn’t want skinner to beat Simone on the worlds stage (and she prob can with upgraded vaults). If she beats Simine, Marta would have to consider her more seriously.

    2) Marta is testing all these athletes. I know really likes Reagan, Norah and even SJS so she’s prob hoping Gabby, Maddie and co. will apart so she can leave all at home next year.

    3) Marta Maddie looks like is about to crash/fall apart so Marta wants to make sure she has an extra ub worker because let’s be honest, it’s a miracle Maddie is still in one piece.

Our beam line-up is so iffy this year. There is no way Marta is taking a beam line up like to Rio (although I know Simone and Aly will get their beams together). Marta usually like to include at least one girl on a team who has that international (read ballet) look so I think she’s opening space for someone to fill that next year. This actually boads well for Kyla.

I think Brenna has done enough so I’m glad she is on a team. It’s Gabby that’s a problem. She should have been at home.

If Aly f’s the finals and doesn’t get the AA medal, I’ll scream.

On another side, I hope this tells Kim that she needs to get Bailie to peak at appropriate time because she will not be getting any benefits by being coached by a former karoliy.

I think unlike other years, this team tells us who will not be in rio rather than who will be and that’s the silver lining lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

The chemistry thing is overrated IMO. Simone is BFF’s with a different person every year. I am sure she and Maggie are friendly but wasn’t Katelyn her best friend at one point? Aly might be a nice kid but she has the spoiled rich kid thing going on too and IMO sometimes I think she is a little too friendly with these girls. It almost seem’s contrived like the Alicia team leader thing. As soon as Alicia was beaten her attitude changed. A soon as Alicia didn’t get what she wanted her attitude changed. Not saying she didn’t have a reason to be pissed at Nastia acting like she deserved a spot on that team without doing anything while she was working her ass off but….. Most of these girls grew up in a gym and wouldn’t survive a real High School a day.lol Oh the drama I went through as a teen:)

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I didn’t mean to imply that team chemistry should be important. Simone was bff with Kyla last year so she’s prob just bff with whoever the 2nd AA’er is lol.

Asac was shitty in 2007 but Nastia got everything she deserved in 2012 so I’m fine with that haha.

This “teenage” drama might be the only teen drama they deal with so is a good lesson when they retire.

Aly is always super friendly. She reminds me of me in many ways-prob why I like her, plus I love Mihai as a coach so I seem to like his athletes.

But Steve Penny/Marta want a team that can appear like a “family” and this current team doesn’t do it for promoting purposes. Well unless you are trying to resemble my family haha

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I didn’t mean to imply you implied anything (This could go on all night:) I just don’t buy the BFF’s with anyone.

The 2012 Olympic team are not famous as a whole. Looks like no one ever bought the family/team/BFF vibe from them. Now the Mag 7 had the chance to be a famous team but Strug being a selfish bitch ruined that. Once you pull the team apart there is no going back.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Back in 2011 Anna was not used because Marta knew Nastia was coming back. Marta wanted Nastia and she couldn’t chance Anna medaling on bars. It’s the same reason she refused to take Shawn after she won beam at camp. She didn’t want her in 2012 and she made sure she never got that chance.

Right now I really think Marta is using these worlds to see how the likes of Maggie and Maddie and Brenna will score under real judges. She knows how Bailie would have scored and we all know Key always scored better outside the US. I love how people think it’s a conspiracy theory when Marta acts the way she does like she doesn’t have any interior motives. They are idiots. She pretty much admitted after the fact in 2012 that that was the team she had her eye on AFTER Nastia choked. Don’t think she doesn’t know what she wants.

We can pretend all we want that Marta gives a shit about being fair or any rules she puts in place but in reality she does what she wants and there are no consequences .

    • JK Says:

I’m not fan of Skinner’s gymnastics but that girl brought a Cheng and an Amanar to Worlds and STILL didn’t make the team. I’m completely baffled by this.

So my immediate thought was the same as your first theory: Marta doesn’t want Skinner to beat Simone at Vault EF because then she would be viewed as a serious contender to make the Rio team.

Or maybe Steve Penny wants to protect Simone’s image (now that she’s gone pro) and make sure she wins as many medals as she possibly can and drum up a lot of PR for her as “the greatest gymnast in the world” – well, that might be a bit of a stretch.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta controls the judges at her meets in her house so if she didn’t want Skinner to beat Simone on vault she would have made sure she didn’t. I figured they might bench Aly for UB so to guarantee Gabby made the AA and it almost happened. My guess is it didn’t because Gabby’s Amanar died and so did any chance of her automatically being the second gymnast to medal so Aly got a reprieve.

  13. Beth Tennant Brigham Says:

Just re-read your rant and wanted to add – despite Skinner’s form and execution issues, I have to give her props for working so hard and having the guts to throw insane skills. I keep reminding myself these are teenage girls – how difficult it must be for her to work her ass off at camp to get to Worlds, earn a spot, then end up alternate and having to downgrade her best events for unclear political reasons (so she won’t outshine Simone, or whatever.)

I totally get all the criticism of her, but she is doing her best and it’s pretty freaking awesome. As an adult, I still can’t even deal well with hidden agendas and bait-and-switch reward/punishment situations. Can’t even imagine how tough it must be for these young girls who work hard to excel under an allegedly defined set of rules, only to have the rules changed for ever-shifting agendas.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I had to deal with the rules changing for different agenda’s at my last job and that is why I got a new one. I couldn’t imagine having no choice in the situation which is why dictators are bad.

  14. tennisgrl456 Says:

I definitely agree with Aly being in the AA in the QF round, but the fact that Gabby gets to do AA and not Maggie is COMPLETE BS…all politics. Maggie has proven time and time again this year that she should be one of the three to get a chance to fight for the second AA spot.

I’m thrilled that Maggie is on the team (if Marta made someone who consistently finished second/third in competitions the alternate this year and let less consistent/not yet in peak shape—ahhemmm GD—Olympians and specialists who are either fragile/have hideous form make the team I would have been PISSED), but the fact that it looks like GD is only doing 1 event in TF while Maggie is doing 3 yet SHE gets to do AA…it’s such bull shit. I hope with every fiber of my being that Aly qualifies over Gabby into the AA and gets on the podium so that we can talk about how it’s important that Gabby learn how to deal with disappointment.

As far as next year goes, Brenna, Skinner, and Kocian are getting NO WHERE NEAR THE TEAM. I can see Maggie (depending on performance here and future upgrades) being in the running for possibly an alternate spot. I’m hoping that politics doesn’t keep Gabby in the running and that she only makes it IF she actually proves herself. If Aly keeps improving (which is what she usually does), I can see her and Simone being on the Rio team. That would cover beam/floor/vault in TF, and Simone could def do bars if needed. If Bailie upgrades, she could fill in on any event. That would leave room for some 2000 babies. I could see Ragan making the team as a floor/beam specialist, and you know if Norah is healthy, she is going to come back with a stellar beam/bar set, and upgrades on floor/vault bc…well…Chow knows what he is doing. If Bailie has her Amanar, those 5 could have all of the events covered, and not just covered, but dominated. Could you imagine a beam line up that included Simone, Ragan, and Norah? I mean, they could leave an Olympic/potential world medallist (Aly) out of the line up and have 3 scores above 15.

I’m not sure if it was GTT or someone else who commented, but I think that the situation is going to be very different than it was in 2011. This years team will likely (HOPEFULLY) not make up the core of the team for next year.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

3 seniors from this year, 2 juniors. That would be my guess

    • JK Says:

I think it’d be pretty friggin’ funny if someone tweeted to Gabby her most awe-inspiring quote, “we all need to learn to deal with disappointment” if or when she doesn’t qualify for the AA finals.

I’m rooting for Aly to qualify over Gabby too. That would be sweet justice in my eyes.

  15. JAS4 Says:

I feel so bad for Maggie and MyKayla. I wonder if Penny is still holding out hoping Maroney will make a comeback and doesn’t want MyKayla competing and possibly winning medals just in case. Like when Shawn was left off just in case Nastia could get it together before the Olympics. I wonder if Maggie or Aly will consider training a second vault to give them more medal potential going into Rio selection next year. I read awhile back that Aly was training a second vault but never heard or saw anything else about it.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

You hit the proverbial nail on the head. Marta was basically forced to take Mckayla to the Olympics for one event because Steve Penny wanted her there. The Olympic committee also pressured her because she was an automatic gold medal (ha that didn’t work out) There is no way Mykayla can win gold on vault and put Marta in another situation where she is forced to do something the Queen doesn’t want to do. At least at the time she could have used Mckayla on floor til she got hurt.

  16. JK Says:

I liked that Kohei article. His quote on God really got my attention:

“Praying to God since it’s the Olympics — that’s not going to get me a gold medal. I don’t think that there is no God — God exists — but I think God only smiles on those who try hard,” Uchimura says.

I’m not religious but the way he talked about God made me smile. He understands that it takes hard work, grit and determination to succeed in the sport. I really respect him. Wishing him the best of luck and hope he wins his SIXTH World title.

  17. Sainabou Nyang Says:

Hold up so they’ve announced who the alternate is and its Skinner? Wow. I don’t find her gymnastics pleasing to the eye but I cant believe Marta would bench a vault and potential floor medalist.

    • gymbot Says:

It would be crazy – no official announcement yet. Skinner is thought to be the benched athlete because of PT order.

      • Cupquaked Says:

What if it’s reverse pyschology? Like they know we all know that PT order indicates the alternate so they are intentionally changing it to keep fans in the dark until an official announcement? I honestly think there’s still a chance that Maddie, Brenna, or even GD could be the alternate.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

According to Lauren of the gymternet “it was, will, and always be skinner” and she tends to be right so:/

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Looking at old Worlds, they always train the line-up they’ll compete. That’s just good practice. NCAA teams do the same in prep for big meets. At this point, it’s pretty obvious it’s Skinner. It shouldn’t be but its like 99% Skinner.

I’ve thought that could be a possibility @Cupquaked. Maybe they just don’t want anyone to know the line-up, to keep all competitors and fans guessing. But Gabby being a favorite and supposedly always competing better than training has me thinking they won’t put her as alternate or even out of the AA. I think unfortunately it could be anyone but Simone, Aly or Gabby. Less likely Kocian seeing that she’s been hitting and is in tact this season. So really I think more realistically it’s between Dowell and Skinner. I also really don’t think Maggie will be alternate but may not get to compete AA, which is really the only thing she is in possible medal contention for so she will only be helping the team score and do nothing individually. And really it sucks no matter which way you slice it. Because everyone played by the rules and earned it except Gabby. Gabby was just OK all season. But we are supposed to be blinded by 2012 and think she’s doing amazing and right up there with Simone. I just wish there wasn’t a 2 per country rule. Just let the top 24 gymnasts compete for the title. There would be way too many americans but I just can’t handle these politics!

That is the sad part is rules are only rules for people Marta wants to follow the rules

Is it true that in this code of points you can only “jump out” from 1 tumbling pass otherwise you will get 0.1 in deduction?

Not sure where to post this.

Ocolisan (Romania) injured her ankle on vault so supposedly they plan to compete with 5 gymnasts only. Oh, scary. I hate the injuries.

That’s too bad. Hey when was Andreea Iridon named to this team? Looks like she is now a competing member and I just way to say, yay:)

It was bound to happen- I’m really impressed with how the Biles family have handled this. What will inevitably turn into sensationalist tabloid headlines if Simone wins Olympic AA- they have chosen to handle this in their own dignified way. (Cough.. Gabby.) I don’t see this being Oprah Winfrey’d.
Funny though- NBC are already on to it!!

  21. KG Says:

If you check out Simone’s ask fm someone asks her if she is sad that Maggie isn’t doing AA and she says yes. So, basically there is 100% confirmation if it wasn’t already totally confirmed.

I actually have no real problem with Maggie being on the team and, if her scores and consistency are good, would have no issue with her being second AA. Her gymnastics is more on point than Gabby’s at this stage except for maybe beam, right? I also wouldn’t mind if Maggie wasn’t competing AA and Aly was, because Aly has demonstrated tons of improvement and readiness. I genuinely think having Gabby on the team throws a total spanner in the works. If Gabby was alternate, you have a decent AAer waiting to fill in the gaps, Mykayla ready to grab a vault medal and 4 amanars (2 good, 2 a little messy), 3 fab bars workers and a decent set from Aly, a weak beam but no weaker than if Gabby was on the team, and a killer floor set.

She earned the right to be on this team

I don’t want to sound like a Maggie stan I just hate seeing her being shafted again. It’s crazy to me that she has beat Aly and Gabby throughout the season being 2nd at Nationals and is now being put aside so only Gabby and Aly have a shot at AA. And if Aly hits she would come out ahead of Maggie, and I will be more than happy to see her compete in the AA because hey, she hit when it mattered and earned it. But Gabby was 5th at nationals and is going get to compete for the AA with a Crapanar or a DTY? Do you guys realize Bailie was 4th at nationals and is not even here? WTF!? In what world does that seem right? And if Gabby doesn’t use the Amanar she has no shot at beating Aly anyway and it’s a waste for her to do the AA (in my opinion). I just hope Aly beats the snot out of Gabby in quals and gets at least 3rd in the AA final. That will be justice for me.

Ok so the U.S line-ups come out and based on the QF line-ups spots, Gabby is not doing anything in TF and Skinner is officially the alternate. Now it’s def ridiculous. I feel for Skinner and Maggie.

At least that shows the world gabby is useless in TF which reduces her stock for Rio. #fingers crossed

      • Tortuga Says:

I know right. Gabby is close to the first on every event. It is so clear that this is a political move. Maggie and Skinner got jipped for sure. Aly better take this opportunity and run! But I’m so happy for Brenna even though I don’t think we need 2 bar specialists.
