World team named

Biles, Douglas, Dowell, Kocian, Nichols, Raisman, + Skinner!

My Thoughts

Bailie Key. I am at a loss for words on how she isn’t on this team but per usual I have my thoughts on why she isn’t. Marta knows the international judges like her a lot better then the Marta judges do and she clearly has her own idea who should be getting the second AA spot. She can’t chance Key going to worlds and beating her money gymnasts now can she. She did this to Anna Li in 2011 after subjecting her to a routine minutes before the team was about to march out and compete hoping she would tank but she didn’t and knowing full well Nastia had decided to “train” again down went Anna. I wonder if Aly will sit out bars in prelims if she does this conspiracy will make a lot of sense.Sadly it might mean Maggie is the alternate

Should be interesting to see the alternates. 7 people named, 6 spots. Is there a non traveling alternate?

Bailie and Baumann are staying at camp to train with team which is interesting

Bailie Key finished top 3 on 2 events at Nationals and was a fall from finishing top 3 on beam. I find it hard to believe she tanked camp so badly she didn’t deserve to be on this team.

Kim Zmeskal has been very quiet on social media.

What do you think?

Biles, Douglas, Dowell, Kocian, Nichols, Raisman, + Skinner!

Camp Martamonga- Updated (9 pm Wed)

Nope it’s not time for a bad TV movie about camp starring a young Jennifer Aniston pre nose job it’s Camp Marta and it starts tomorrow. We should get an announcement of the team sometime Thursday night.

NIGHT 1 is over

MLT’s pictures below.

Who wants to read between the smiles?

Brenna looks exhausted and thrilled it’s over
Bailie looks happier than I have seen her in awhile.
Maggie is holding up 3 fingers. My guess is third AA at this camp. SPECULATION NOT FACT

Gabby has already placed herself on the World team before the competition has taken place. Thanks for this LOL (screen cap of a screen cap) Original is from this tumblr

To start you off we have some videos of a bandaged Amelia Hundley’s work out on floor before leaving for camp and Nia Dennis and her new Maloney 1/2

This interview with Shannon is a little better than the other one because Laura the diver actually calls out that Miller was robbed in 92 when no one else will do it. Skating and Gym fans suck. Let the diver do the interviews

Why aren’t you naming these judges FIG?

Yankee elimination party is now in full blown happy mode.:)

  1. JAS4 Says:

Nia’s bars look pretty good so far but I don’t think she is a Marta favorite and she’s not someone Marta can’t ignore. Amelia has always been one of my favorites. I wish she were able to stay healthy and have competitive upgrades! (Not to mention I doubt she is on Marta’s good side. Doesn’t Marta dislike MLT?)

  2. Ilanchik20 Says:

Let’s start a predictions game again LOL

Here is a team I want: Simone, Aly, Bailie, Locklear, Brenna, Alyssa. Alt: Maggie

Here is a team we’ll prob have: Simone, Aly, Gabby, Key, Maddie, Skinner. Alt: Maggie

    • JAS4 Says:

Lately Marta seems to like Maggie so I wouldn’t be surprised if she is actually on the team instead of an alternate. I think she will have to beat Aly or Gabby at camp to ensure a spot on the team and not as an alternate.

      • H Says:

The team I personal want: Simone, Aly, Brenna, Locklear, Skinner, Maggie. Alt: Gabby/Maddie

The Team I think marta will choose if she consider previous years/personal willingness etc: Simone, Gabby (hard to leave Gabby out due to potential/OG gold), Aly, Maggie, Skinner, Brenna (if she hits). Alt: Baily.

The more realistic team: Simone, Gabby, Aly, 2 bars specialist Brenna/Locklear/Maddie, Skinner. Alt: Maggie.

      • Mimi Says:

Man I would love Gabby to be the alternate.

  3. SS Says:

I’d really like to see Maggie get a spot on this team because I don’t see her going to Rio. I could also see Marta taking her and using her in qualifications but not finals.
    v: Mykayla, gabby, Simone
    Ub: Simone, gabby, kocian
    Bb: Baille, Aly, Simone
    Fx: mykayla, Aly, Simone

    Alt: Maggie

  4. Sainabou Nyang Says:

Lol camp martamonga. I immediately thought of that Nickolodean show Salute Your Shorts.

Anyways I still think the team will be Simone, Aly, Gabby, Kocian, Maggie, Bailey Alt. skinner.

  5. Mimi Says:

The blog post title totally cracked me up!

Nothing else useful to add except I think Bailie will be added to the team.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I was originally going to use camp boggle (the game) but I didn’t like any of the pictures I could find online (nearly impossible to change the letters to words related to camp) so then I searched camp and it came up with this TV movie that I totally remember. It was either that or the movie camp with Anna Kendrick but I couldn’t get the bad paint job to work well enough. I need some kind of program besides paint

  6. Gym Obsessed Says:

Man, I wish I could watch the camp competition today! I am looking forward to hearing the final team though I really don’t care as much without Kyla seeking a spot to be honest. Now I am curious but not wishing for a particular group. I am also wondering if we won’t know who the alternate is until right before qualifications- that’s how they did it last year. My final guess: Simone, Aly, Gabby, Bailie, Maggie, Madison and Breanna with the alt to be named later. I’m guessing no Skinner for some reason!

    • tennisgrl456 Says:

Same here…this year (and at this point) I don’t find myself wishing for a particular group, I just can’t wait to find out.

I mean, we know Simone, Aly, and Gabby are going. Beyond that, I just REALLY want to see Maggie make the team, and NOT as an alternate. Aside from that, I’m not really “emotionally invested” in any gymnast making the team. The US is going to win by a landslide no matter who goes and they will likely have 2 AA medalists no matter who the other 3 gymnasts on the team are, so I’m just curious to see what Marta does with the team.

  7. Ilanchik20 Says:

So either this is a big oops or Gabby knows something we don’t, haha. Oh, Gabby.

    • Case Says:

The basket is nowhere near as big as that girl’s ego.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Wow is all I can say…so do they know already? Maybe that’s why Kyla said eff camp

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

I found this hillarious. Only Gabby.

I still doubt they “know” officially. She assumes, I guess lol. Or it’s one of those things that happened in 2012, where Marta told Aly “as long as you don’t eff up the rest of trials/camps, you’ll be on the team.” I’m sure Simone and Aly know they are going to Worlds–they are just not posting it for the universe to see. I think Gabby has since deleted this IG lol.

    • Tortuga Says:

What the hell. Girl really needs to watch what she says. Either they already announced the team or she is assuming she made it. I wish she would’ve said “Thanks for sending me off the Worlds SELECTION CAMP on such a good note.” Jesus, even Simone (who is a shew in) would NEVER post that statement.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Simone posted on Twitter “Selection camp starts tonight, wish me luck..” LOL.

Ashton posted a message similar to Simone.

      • Tortuga Says:

See my point exactly. They know how to carry themselves. Be confident but not over the top.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

Are you serious…..I literally spit out my coffee laughing at this. And no! Simone would NEVER even do this. She even denies the fact that she will make the team (even though we all know she will lol). But Gabrielle? Nah let me just tell the world I’m going to worlds even though camp is happening.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

God, it used to Skinner (who was super young and inexperienced) who would re-tweet/post questionable things that would make me face palm, but with her it was almost excusable. She was an excited kid who had had no experience on a World/Olympic stage. Since she’s been to World’s, she hasn’t posted/re-tweeted anything like she used to. Gabrielle, on the other hand, has no excuse. She’s a World Champion, a 2x Olympic Champion, she’s gone pro, she has an agent, she’s “written” 2 (?) books, and she has had multiple endorsements. I don’t care if she is technically still a teenager until the last day of this year…anyone with her training/experience KNOWS better than to post shit with captions like that.

It just goes to show (in my opinion) that no amount of training can teach a person class/grace. She can feign it (if it is pounded into her head repeatedly) for short amounts of time, but it will always come off as disingenuous. A classy person would have posted that picture with a caption like, “A huge thank you to my Buckeye girls for these gorgeous flowers and gifts as I head off to the World Team Selection Camp! I’m so grateful for all of your support in the gym each and every day (smile face emoji)”

I mean, I’m not her and I’ve never been in the running for any kind of world team, but I was a DI athlete and I can remember that during times leading up to the bigger races (I was a rower), no spots in the top boats were guaranteed. And even the one or 2 people who were basically locks (there were one or two of them who actually DID go on to the national team/end up making world teams/medalled at worlds) NEVER acted as if they knew their spots were always there for them, no matter how they performed. The more that I think about, of the women I competed with/against, the ones who thought of themselves as “locks” and projected themselves in that manner were almost always the most insufferable/annoying to be around. Nobody likes people who act that way, Gabrielle!!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

someone needs to screen cap this for me so I can ad it to the worlds

  8. tennisgrl456 Says:

Unrelated to US team selection, but Mustafina is out for the Russians. She decided she wouldn’t be ready in time to be an alternate, so she will be replaced by Dmitrieva.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

But I heard Aliya is still traveling to Worlds–as a guest LOL. Poor Aliya, let her rest, ugh.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

What makes it so funny is that she was in, then out, then back in, and now she’s out. LOL. I think Musty just needs a break for a while….

      • Cupquaked Says:

I think it’s good that they are bringing her as like an honorary member. I was afraid they would ice her out for deciding not to do Worlds and keep her off the Olympic team. At least this shows they still value her as a gymnast. And I read and interview a few months ago where she said she would like to go into coaching. So this gives her a small chance to get some experience with that. Bummed we won’t be seeing her. I love her RBF face in competition.

      • tennisgrl456 Says:

She does need a break. I think had the Russian Cup not been so horrifying to watch from the stands, she would have sat back (for lack of a better term) and not made an attempt to get to competition form.

I’m going to assume that Dmitrieva has improved since Russian Cup? The original roster (before Aliya announced that she would be trying to get into competition shape) included Alla Sosnitskaya as the alternate. When Musty announced she was back in training, Sosnitskaya was quickly booted from the roster and Musty was put into her spot. Now that Musty is BACK out, what was Sosnitskaya’s spot is going to Dmitrieva.

The Rodionenko’s are obviously shitty people, V.Rod being far shittier than A.Rod, but I can’t help but imagine that Aliya has had the upper hand on them since the 2012 games. When she proved them wrong and came away as the most decorated gymnast on the women’s side and then CONTINUED to excel on the World level, it seems like she now dictates a lot of what goes on for her over there. Even in Romania where Larissa (and now Cata) basically holds the team together, she still seems to function/participate at the same level as her teammates. Maybe all of those Aliya “stans” who have been referring to her as “Queen” have been right all along, only in a different capacity. She has become a sort of “Queen” in the sense that the delegation depends so much on her that she can control them to a certain extent. Tell them she doesn’t feel well enough to go to World’s, decide while watching the Russian Cup (or afterwards possibly) that she does want to go to Worlds and they put her on the team at her request, decides that she won’t be ready, notifies them, and they issue a statement that she has stated that she won’t be ready to compete and will be replaced by another gymnast. They didn’t say that THEY didn’t feel she was ready or that THEY felt another gymnast was more prepared/had proven that they were more deserving of the spot…it was more like, “Our athlete has informed us that she does not feel like she would make a proper alternate and is removing herself from the team so we are not replacing her.” It’s kind of laughable bc in WHAT other big 4 (or even top 8) country would this kind of shit happen. But more power to you, Aliya. Take your time, rest, and come back healthy for 2016.

On the other hand, I’m sure V.Rod was banking on her being her super human self, getting back into shape, and being good enough to take the spot of one of the other athletes on the team. She knows at this point how badly “her” program needs Aliya. It would make me so happy if right now she was sobbing in her office with “Quit Playing Games with My Heart” blasting in the background.

  9. tennisgrl456 Says:

I’m interested to see what Marta does with this team. No matter who she picks, they are going to win by a landslide. Given the depth and consistency of the team, I’m going to go so far as to say that we are pretty much guaranteed 2 AA medals. I really only see Iordache being able to challenge for a podium spot in the AA….she scored above 60 at nationals BUT that was with something like a 15.1 on bars and the day that happens in international competition is the day that Aly Raisman is the World Champ on bars.

Simone, Aly and Gabby are locks. Simone and Aly for AA and individual medals. Gabby for being a Marta fav, defending Olympic AA champ, and the 3rd best AA at last camp, plus bars in TF. I can’t see her being used on anything but bars in TF and I really don’t see her making any individual finals unless there is some SERIOUSLY questionable judging going on.

That leaves 3 spots and one alternate, one non-traveling ….I think it will come down to Maggie, Skinner, Kocian, Key, and Dowell. At this point all *I* really want is for Maggie to make the team and NOT as an alternate, just because I like her, I love how much she has improved, I love how she goes out and just hits and hits and hits, and I want to see how she is judged on a World stage. I know that most people see her as an alternate but Marta seems to really like her this year so I’m holding out hope that she does make the actual team.

The rest is a crap shoot. Some outstanding gymnasts are going to be left home, which is the amazing part/shitty side of USA gymnastics right now. Marta has a plan, but will it reflect what the nominative team suggested (even though that was based purely on the last camps results? Does she go with specialists who have an outside shot at a medal? Does she go with (technically) AA gymnasts who specialize on a few events and could be used as “insurance” should one of the US’s top 2 on any given event choke in qualification? Does she really make the focus on AA gymnasts given that that is the way that the sport is heading (or rather, heading back to) and let more gymnasts than she usually does try to fight it out in qualifications for the 2 AA spots, knowing full well that several of them can make individual EF?

My DREAM situation (actually, my revised dream, since my dream wouldn’t include Gabby, but that’s inevitable, so dream situation given the locks): Biles, Raisman, Douglas, Nichols, Key, Skinner, Kocian (alt), Dowell (non-traveling alt). I don’t think Key will have had enough time to get the Amanar back between the last camp and now, which would make her reaching the top 4 AA REALLY tough with this group. If my dream of Maggie making this team happens, I can see Marta letting Biles/Raisman/Douglas/Nichols fight it out in the AA during QF, with Key doing bars and beam, and Skinner doing Vault and floor. The alternates are kind of interchangeable…yes, Brenna has an Amanar, but so do the top 4 American AA gymnasts at this point, plus she has proven to be consistently inconsistent on bars. I would trust Bailie on UB/BB in qualifying over her any day, plus she is an untested KZB athlete and a first year senior. Skinner, as much as I find her gymnastics hard to watch, HAS proven that she is can be counted on and has improved over the last two years. She has a good shot at bronze on vault, and if Aly has a mistake on floor in qualifying, she could make the final over her. Kocian is TECHNICALLY an AA gymnast, but she can really only contribute on bars, and the chances of her medalling are slim to none and the team doesn’t need her score in finals.

With that team, I would have these athletes, in no particular order, in TF:
Vault: Maggie, Simone, MyKayla/Aly (depending on how her Amanar is looking)
Bars: Gabby, Bailie, Simone/Maggie (again, depending on qualifying/how the judges score Maggie)
    Beam: Simone, Aly, Bailie
    Floor: Simone, Aly, MyKayla

    • gymbot Says:

Iordache’s 15.1 for the routine with added swings (do not read empty swings) is unlikely – but she was getting high marks, 14.8-14.9 at Worlds 2014 and World Cup Events last year. The 15.1 isn’t necessarily out of reach.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree if Aly gets a 14 with her form Larisa having a 6.3 start value and getting a 15 (very low 15) seems realistic to me.

  10. gymbot Says:

Key’s smile does look so genuine!

    • H Says:

Yes, and I heard that it was only one fall during the competition. Seems they are all well prepared.

    • Ilanchik20 Says:

Hopefully that means Bailie did well 🙂

      • Gymnast41 Says:

I’m low key fighting for bailie lol. One fall totall also means brenna probably did well too. Ughhhh the suspense of waiting 😁. I’m going to miss the announcement cause I work until late unfortunately.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

That one fall better not be Brenna! I need Brenna on this team. Marta–make Gabby the alternate, better yet, the non-traveling alternate like you did to Shawn in 2011. Sigh.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am kind of rooting for Bailie myself. I hate when Marta plays her games with someone like Bailie yet lets Gabby cheat her leaps and tank Nationals without a scare.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

My thoughts exactly. Still can’t believe Gabby is going but whatevs. I feel like she’s going because of who she is rather than anything else because the US is that strong.

      • Gymnast41 Says:

For some reason though I actually do have faith in brenna….like I feel like Marta is actually appreciating her as a gymnast and is just disappointed in key because she’s constantly not meeting her expectations? I just hope to God that brenna isn’t the non traveling alternate…though I do have a lot of hope

      • Tortuga Says:

I’m rooting for Bailey and Maggie because its seems like they will have the hardest time with Simone, Gabby and Aly seeming to already be named. It’s crazy how someone like Maggie or Bailey can get top 3 at Nationals then possibly not make the worlds team and Gabby just walks on.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        yes it is

      • G Says:

I’ll feel so bad for Bailie if she doesn’t make this team and I want Brenna there too…and Maggie. And not Gabby. But I can’t always get what I want lol. And yeah if Brenna is non traveling alternate again I’ll scream. I really thought 2013 was her one shot at Worlds but she keeps proving me wrong, she’s got a lot of drive but one more screwing from Marta has got to put her over the edge.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She just needs to keep hitting that UB routine to even be considered for alternate.

  11. KG Says:

I am also totally low key rooting for Bailie. Like I’m not even the biggest fan of her gymnastics per se, but she hits and it is nice looking. It’s also just crazy that she could be undefeated in juniors and place top five in seniors usually and not even be on the nominative list?

Moreover though, I’m done speculating. I kept checking for the team announcement while I was at work, and thought by the time I was done cooking dinner, cleaning the house, and getting the kids in bed, that I’d be able to read all about it, but no such luck.

    • G Says:

According to a few instagrams, the comp is over so I guess we just wait for Marta to mull it all over and make her decisions. I hope it’s soon though, I’m getting impatient 🙂

      • KG Says:

Yeah I just checked Simone’s Twitter, and she said about a half hour ago that they were done. So I’m assuming they’ve been done for at least an hour…. Wonder if Marta has announced to the girls yet.

  12. tennisgrl456 Says:

It’s Biles, Raisman, Douglas, Nichols, Dowell, Skinner and Kocian

    • G Says:

Yeah I can’t believe Bailie isn’t on there, poor girl. She must have messed up at camp or something? . I wonder who the alternate will be. I’m guessing its between Dowell and Skinner.

  13. Katie Says:

    Wow. No Bailie. Pretty shocked.

    • KG Says:

I’m shocked no Bailie and I’m pretty shocked Brenna kept her nominative placement

      • KG Says:

And they say Alyssa and Bailie are remaining at the ranch to train with the team… What’s with that? They already have an extra girl with the team they named

      • gymtruthteller Says:

A lot of ugly on this team. Brenna vs Madison for the UB specialist the team really doesn’t need.

      • Ilanchik20 Says:

Bailie and Alyssa are non-traveling alternates. So they train with the team till the team leaves. That’s got to be the worst. Poor Bailie 😦

I wonder what Kim did to piss off Marta:l

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The writing has been on the wall for Kim the last few years from the bringing in of Rhonda to Nica and now Bailie. There is something so off about all of this.

I said it before I’ll say it again Bailie has upgrades like the Amanar she won’t compete and Marta is trying to force Kim’s hand to show these upgrades.

      • G Says:

Though it seems to be a love fest between Kim and the Karolyi’s, I’m beginning to think Marta just likes to screw with her, she’s seemed to have it out for some of her past athletes (namely the chronically underscored and unappreciated Nica Hults) and now Bailie. Ragan may be the only Texas Dreamer with a real shot at Rio but who knows.

      • Gym Obsessed Says:

Maybe Kim was a fav of Bela and not of Martha’s. Regardless – I am sad for Bailie. And I hope Brenna doesn’t become the alternate again before qualifications.

Did anyone see that annoying article from Nancy Armour basically saying that Laurie Hernadez would be going to world’s if she was old enough? Umm…. no way. Laurie may be cleaning up in the juniors but her scores were not good enough to put her on this world’s team especially with Bailie not making it. That article really bugged me. (Minus the shout out to Kyla.)

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Didn’t see it. I have heard negative things about this lady stalking gymnasts more than doing her job.

Laurie would have been in the mix but she would have been training upgrades preparing harder routines and who knows if she would have been consistent at them. It’s an entire different mind set to prepare for the real teams when you can compete vs not compete

      • mim Says:

Im floored that Bailie wasn’t chosen. I never anticipated her actually not being put on this team. I loved her as a junior, think her gymnastics is lacklustre lately but if she’s hitting top 3 on at least 2 events at camp she couldn’t be totally screwing up. I don’t think it’s any conspiracy though. There’s just so much depth and Marta obviously is trying to maximise individual medals.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I am not a big fan of Bailie the gymnast but shew goes to meets, competes, wins medals when people count her out yet Gabby pretty much tanks day one of Nationals, goes to camp gets results under Marta rules and Bailie gets screwed.

It just doesn’t seem fair but at least you actually read what I wrote so props to you:)

      • Gym Obsessed Says:

        I read it too – I promise!!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I know. I am just being me:)

      • Mimi Says:

I naively thought there was a teeny possibility Gabby would be alternate after Martha’s comments at Nationals!

  14. G Says:

I hope to high heavens that Skinner doesn’t perform her Irish floor routine in Scottland. But I.sure they’ll at least put her up during qualifying if she’s not the alternate. Sheesh that’s just embarrassing for the USA.

    • Gymnast41 Says:

And this is why she should be alternate.

    • KG Says:

      Don’t remind me. Ugh.

    • Tortuga Says:

I just don’t understand why Marta wants to put us through the humiliation of Skinner doing that floor routine, and creating a media circus. I can only hope she will end up as alternate. I will flip shit if Maggie or Brenna is bumped to alternate. Our depth is also our weakness. So many great gymnasts go unappreciated.

  15. Sainabou Nyang Says:

Oh man if I could be a fly on the wall after they announced the team. But if we think this drama is bad now, wait until next year.

    • KG Says:

Kim has to be fuming. That’s for sure.

      • mim Says:

Poor Bailie. Kim’s supposed to be a bit aggressive, isn’t she? It makes things interesting for next year. She apparently pits the girls against each other as “motivation”, I wonder if she’ll start devoting more attention to Ragan or if she’ll be fairly even with her coaching.

  16. mim Says:

And in the midst of all this, Norah Flatley has verbally committed to UCLA. She seems too young for this haha.

    • KG Says:

For awhile it seemed everyone was going to Florida. Then Rhonda got her draft notice, and all recruits have absconded to UCLA now.

  17. Cupquaked Says:

Crying from excitement for Brenna. She’s not the most beautiful gymnast but she fights hard and must have some amazing mental strength. I pull for people like her.

Also crying for Bailie. I loved her as a junior and this seems so unfair for her. If blabby Gabby wasn’t back Bailie would have been on this team and that makes me so angry. I hope Gabby chokes (but like not enough for the USA to place 2nd) and doesn’t qualify to anything. She just needs to go away. I don’t what I’ll do if she goes to Rio……

  18. KG Says:

Okay, going off of what GTT said about Bailie and a gymnast being a repeat sort of, for the Anna li/Nastia situation, how do you think it will play out if that person delivers a sub par performance? Will the worlds judges cave to pressure and over score (again)?

At this point I don’t think “that gymnast” is going away no matter what she delivers, as long as she mostly stays on apparatuses.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I didn’t mention names but what I pretty much said without saying is Marta wants Gabby to be the second spot in the AA so she leaves Key at home, takes Maggie who she doesn’t think will be score well and gets what she wants. Then she has a great reason to pretend Maggie doesn’t exist when it comes to making the Olympic team next year. If Aly gets to compete and makes the AA over Gabby Marta can deal with that especially since Aly is pretty well known. She got a lot of attention after the last Olympic including more endorsements than Gabby. Aly makes the perfect back up plan.

People have mentioned some of the speculation about Marta not being as enamored with Kim as she has been in the past and she wins here too. Bailie gets screwed. I can tell you right now without any sort of insider info that Kim Zmeskal is pissed Bailie isn’t even an alternate.

      • KG Says:

No I knew what and who you meant, just didn’t want to flood the comments with “anti-GD” comments lol

And I totally agree with all of it. I just wonder if GD will score up to expectations. I think even if Aly outs ores her, GD will still be on the Rio team, which will again cut Bailie short and maybe Maggie or Brenna or other AAers too.

Gabby fans need not post here at all. I don’t play well with others:)

It seems like once a gym gets too buddy buddy, they fall out of favor. From Woga to TDs.

Ohashi was kind of the last real Woga fav IMO, and Ragan might be the end of TD favorites.

Yikes, kind of surprised at this team. I haven’t been paying very good attention to gymnastics lately so I was like WTF when I saw this.

I never was big on Key but she grew on me when I watched nationals this year. I am really surprised she is not on the team. I am a wee surprised about Dowell, I just hope she isn’t screwed over again this year. I didn’t think skinner would be named, I felt like she fell off the radar a little lately. Glad Maggie is on the team but just because you are on the team doesn’t mean you compete, as we have seen in the past.

Oh well there’s my lame two cents LOL I’ll try to follow closer as world’s gets closer. i don’t know how I am going to withstand more gabby.

I had to gather my thought before I posted this.

I’m a bit shocked. Bailie was never my favorite but I full expected her on this team. Marta always takes at least one first-year senior. I think Marta wants those upgrades and unless Bailie starts competing an amanar, she will not be making any teams in the future. It’s do or else with Marta. Gabby verified her Amanar so she is on the team. Ugh.

I think Maggie will be the alternate. Marta would not be taking specialists along if she planned to alternate one of them. This team is 5 amanars and a Cheng so yeah.

I think Marta left enough space on this team to ensure two spots for new juniors next year. I hope Kim doesn’t give up on Bailie but I say Reagan has a better chance. Marta will want another Beamer.

There is a lot more I could say but that’s prob it for now LOL

  21. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if Marta is playing games with them and will do something like switch Key and Dowell right before they leave? I am guessing she is pretty set on this team since it was the nominatve team but you never know with Marta.

    • ilanchik20 Says:

Is she allowed to do? Or is there restriction by FIG that says you can only have gymnasts compete who are on the official roster? But I guess since Key is listed as a non-traveling alternate, so she prob could but I say, it’s unlikely. Marta wants a team full of amanars, which is def getting, haha.

      • JAS4 Says:

I agree but given that Brenna doesn’t seem to be on Marta’s good side I wouldn’t put it past her.

      • Dee Says:

I kind of think you can change up until a certain number of hours before the meet? Why do I feel like I have heard the rule before but don’t know where to find it?

      • ilanchik20 Says:

I feel like I remember it being up to 24 hours before QF start. Correct me, if I’m making this up.

  22. sanitynmotion Says:

I guess I’m not surprised if Bailey has an Amanar and isn’t competing it. Marta has always shown she takes the big vaulters. Dowell and Skinner are big vaulters in that respect. And if GD has one there you go. It sucks but it seems to be the Marta way. Out of this team I think only Biles, Raisman, and maybe GD have a shot at Rio. Don’t see Dowell or Skinner or Maggie or Maddie there unless there’s an injury.
I’m pissed for Bailey but not for Kim. Seems she was so far up Martas butt maybe it was time to get her head clear and see reality. Somewhere Dom Mocianu is laughing about this and having a glass of wine screaming I Told You So!

  23. Case Says:

Add me to the list of people surprised about Key. KZB can’t be happy right now. Texas Dreams = Texas Nightmares trying to make a Marta team.

GTT – intriguing theory about Marta wanting Gabby in the second AA spot. Unfortunately you are probably right.
