2015 US Senior Nationals day 2 ( Live Blogging)

So tomorrow night I will live blog if I can get the computer to stay working. I will add the junior results to the day 1 blog instead of giving them their own blog so if possible PLEASE keep all the junior comments in that blog.

By the way I was watching Nationals on the computer last night and my niece says to me, why are they showing everyone standing around instead of the people on the things ( she meant apparatus) Why is it the 6 year old can get it but gymnastics doesn’t?

Mens world team

Off to join the boys in my living room and drink them under the table. Woomp

Best thing about tonight

A Red white and blue AA Podium
Simone is the Queen. No one compares.

Kyla was added to the National team. So were Baumenn, Kocian and Nia Dennis. No Dowell who did her dismount to fast on night 2 and fell. I honestly feel like her bars night one should have been enough to put her on National team but Marta hates her.

Overall judges weren’t as bad as I thought tho Gabby still got overscored.
Marta telling Tim, Gabby isn’t working enough in practice is hilarious. Not to defend Gabby but what kind of judgement is that? Not everyone hits in practice as long as they are competition ready isn’t that what really matters? Gabby was given some gifts over 2 nights and her beam scores and mess up on floor are big mistakes but not falls.( tho I missed beam night 2 I need to find that)

Maggie has some form issues and IMO she will get Natasha Kelly’d at Worlds but what a 2 nights for her. I am never the fan girl but major credit for what she did here if she keeps this up she and Aly will be fighting for the second spot behind the Queen.

Aly taking out some beam leaps was a good idea. Let her go full force at camp. So proud of my homie for doing so well and being floor champion.

Kyla I still love you and my dear Kyla letter will happen in a few days.

Bailie sweety please get a new floor routine.

Watch out Skinner Gabby would have beat you on floor if she didn’t mess up. Guess these judges were the usual

Hey Kyla got bronze on beam.

How did Kocian win bars when she hit her feet? I am almost positive they said 14.100 and now the scores say 15.600.
I don’t know what I saw but this alcohol clearly got to me.lmao

Rotation 4

What we have here. Aly on beam. Simone on bars. Gabby on vault. Bailie on bars , Brenna and Bailie on bars and Maggie on vault.

Nastia is trying to physch out Maggie.lol
Brenna messed up bars. Say goodbye to Brenna and any chance at Worlds.

I think Maggie has second if she hits this vault. She hit her Amanar still yucky legs but better

Nia hit bars big time. Now build on that start value.

We need to see Kocian on beam? Not great but she stayed on. 5 tenth deduction on the leap according to Tim. They didn’t take it with that score

Step on DTY for Gabby
Simone hit bars. A little not perfect but still great.

Aly won floor over Simone with her fall. Wow these judges haven’t been as bad as usual.

Aly hit a watered down beam but good for her.

Kyla took out leap with Arabian and barely made double tuck but she stayed up and Nastia needs to shut up. 13.800 and now behind Nia. NOT good

If they want to they can screw Bailie and put Gabby ahead of her.

We are going to hear from Aly and Gabby but not second place Maggie?

Simone won vault. Key won bars. Simone won beam and Aly won floor

Rotation 3
Big step for DTY and Key
God Gabby has me rooting for a Wogaette ( see what happens when I do that)
Skinner hit floor and her dd laid out was much better then night one. Still bent but better.
Tim that was not a ten. It was beautiful but not perfect.( Night 1 Amanar)
Calling it now Kyla pulls out if she doesn’t hit beam. IMO she should pull out from floor anyway.
SHUT up Nastia.lol Looks like Al is trying to make up for his Elfi comment
Like you couldn’t freeze for that BS my Internet that sucks????
OOB Maggie on first pass both feet. Stuck full in. OMG Nastia is talking more and more #MuzzleHerOopsIdonotHaveTwitter
That’s my girl Simone. Great Amanar slight foot move maybe.
Now Nastia is giving us vaulting advice.
Aly being Aly on bars. Messy but hit.
That’s my girl Kyla. Great beam. One slight small bobble and stuck dismount. The score will tell us where Marta stands. SHUT UP Nastia.
Much better floor from Gabby. Fell out of 2 leaps and her double turn connected to single turn was not connected but much better ( still not a 15) 14.800 a little high but not nearly as bad as I expected these judges to be.
Kyla has moved into 7th place even with all these mistakes. With out the falls she would be ahead of Gabby. What if’s don’t matter but still everyone makes mistakes.

Rotation 2

Simone nailed floor and Nastia is now giving Simone advice on how she should tumble LMAO.

Kyla should pull out of this meet at least floor. It’s her best bet to make world team.

I missed Kyla on bars did she fall again? It froze.

I think Aly and Simone tied for floor gold.

I want to hunt Zmeskal down for this floor routine for Key. She showed last year she has so much potential.

Thanks to my brother for his sign in for NBC

Locklear’s score pretty much proves Kyla is gone in Marta’s eyes at least for now

Risk reward game is what Kyla needs to do.

Maggie hit beam but did not full in for dismount

Rotation 1

Maggie hit bars a little messy

Short DTY by Kyla. This is mental.

This link isn’t working for me very well.

Kyla isn’t going to even get air time on NBC if she keeps this up

Thanks Gymgurl for the working link to tonight’s competition in my comfortable chair instead of the hard chair in the other room while the boys friends take over my living room with the big screen.

Simone has been demoted to third status according to NBC preview and Kyla doesn’t exist. Not surprised.

Nastia has her grandmothers shirt on. Hire someone to pick your cloths girl.

why couldnt gabrielle havve the meniscus tear?

    • Case Says:

Natalie would kick your tail for saying that. The cash cow needs another Olympics.

You’re mean and now all the haters will come back and troll this blog and blame your comments on me. The same folder is so awesomely amazing here at WordPress key words just send them all to spam and I never have to look at them. Life is grand 🙂

i hope johnathon horton an lleva keep doing well, and I hope ruggeri has a bad day since raj declared that the meet of his life.

I dont think the dude that is commenting and pointing out all of the execution errors will last marta doesnt need all of that reinforced in the judges heads.

  10. gymbot Says:

I guess I wont be watching live. Live scores are already up on the site. Ross must have had a wonky DTY.

    • Mimi Says:

Heaps of links on twitter that work!

    • Exgymgurl Says:

she was really low. I think its her back again. I think shes gotten taller. I honestly think shes way more broken then shes letting on.

      • gymbot Says:

She’s had a messy road the last year or so, the lumbar injury, the hip strain, this ankle issue now and possibly more as you say. Growing doesn’t help her gymnastics either.

Maybe she will go to school. Her original plan was to finish high school and devote one year to elite training. She’s talented enough to be the a favorite again, and there are still two months or so to go to the next worlds.

  11. Mimi Says:

Kyla’s vault basically already broke my heart. What’s going on in her head? Confidence please, girl.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

It’s in her head. Watch the video of her on bars during training from the twitter link I left in comments. She just let go of bars when she was about to fall.No fight at all

      • Tortuga Says:

I hate to say it but Kyla is done. I don’t see her making a world team at this point.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

maybe shes just mentally done with elite. Do you think she gets on the national team? do you think she is just in a lot of pain? I dont get whats going on there. I think its her back shes doing back cryo tube therapy, and I think its worse.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Personally I think Marta is playing her games with the scoring of Gabby and Aly to motivate Kyla to upgrade and that is getting in her head. That vault from tonight was lack of concentration Kyla being short with all her power is not possible.

      • Mimi Says:

I wonder if she’s just tired. She hasnt had a break from elite, like, ever. She must be mentally spent.

  12. Cupquaked Says:

I had Kyla on my worlds team but I’m calling it now: she’s done. And I’m just so incredibly depressed for her. Something’s going wrong mentally. It’s her confidence. It has to be.

  13. KG Says:

My heart is sinking for Kyla. I hope it is mental (not that her body is broken) and that she can get her head back in the game.

she was the one who went straight back to training, didn’t go for the money or fame, and yet she’s looking less likely to make another Olympics than Aly or GD. (Although I do like Aly, don’t get me wrong.). Sometimes life isn’t fair and this is a perfect example. I so hope she can turn this around and that she is given a chance to do so, or that she finds happiness at UCLA.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

      Life is never fair

    • Tortuga Says:

I agree there’s some confidence/ head games going on. But she’s also sooo much taller and keeps growing and getting these injuries that keep holding her back. It kills me because she’s been working so much longer at this than Aly and Gabby but she’s not going to get the same chances they will. I hope there’s some way that she pull things together but I can’t take much more of this heart break she’s giving me. On the bright side she looks beautiful in that leo and make up.

    • TrishaG Says:

It’s hard to see Kyla struggle. :/

She didn’t go pro because she didn’t like the publicity, having to do appearances, etc. At least she will now have NCAA which she has wanted, and she has already earned individual success at Worlds if she’s not able to return for a second Olympics. She’s going to be a rock star in NCAA.

    • Case Says:

KG, I said the exact same thing on an earlier blog comment. So sad for Kyla. It’s obvious to me she’s grown and I do think she is having back problems.

On the other hand, she will have the gold medal from London forever and she should have a nice NCAA career.

      • KG Says:

That’s true. I’m glad she had success earlier this quad and of course the gold from last Olympics.

Am I remembering correctly that her dad is pretty tall and was a baseball player? She might even have more height to grow.

      • Mimi Says:

Everyone talks about Kyla’s height but Maggie looks quite tall too.. or it in an illusion from her bun?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She is always close to Kyla in the line ups so no she is tall

      • TrishaG Says:

Maggie’s tall, but not quite as tall as Kyla. She’s prolly 2 inches shorter, which would be about 5’4″.

  14. TrishaG Says:

Mykayla Skinner scored higher on beam than Gabrielle Douglas. LMAO.

    • Mimi Says:

Isn’t life strangely fabulous sometimes haha

      • Katie Says:

It’s not like I delight in cheering against Gabby but she just makes it so hard to cheer for her. Even after all the stuff that she and her mom have pulled I still think it would go a long way if she expressed even a sliver of humbleness. Even in the lead up to Nationals, when questioned about simone’s dominance, Aly would always answer that she (simone) was in a class by herself and the best Aly could do was to fight for second. Gabby of course would give interviews that she wasn’t even paying attention to what anyone else was doing and that she was just focusing on herself. It’s not like I expect anyone to kiss Simone’s ring or to not have self-confidence but it just shows the difference between being graceful and realistic vs. full of yourself and in denial.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabrielle chooses to have this attitude and it hasn’t changed in 3 years. I don’t feel sorry for her at all. This isn’t a case of anything but complete arrogance and ego.

      • Katie Says:

Oh I completely agree. I just wonder why USAG even puts up with this? She has burned a lot of bridges with her attitude.

      • TrishaG Says:

Completely agree, Katie. i don’t usually cheer against people, but I really can’t stand arrogance.

    • tulip Says:

      Life is good

  15. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

wow low FX score for nia. didn’t she use to have a higher SV

  16. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

I guess skinner doesn’t pay attention to twitter and still thinks Scotland and Ireland is the same country

  17. Gymbee Says:

Oh gag me, already I am not used to the loooong US commercial breaks, and they bring it back just so Nastia can talk about Beijing?!

  18. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

And we have to relive seeing Nastia on the 08 podium again. 😦

  19. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

HA queen of the crossed legs, picked on simons Toes

  20. Case Says:

Kyla heard us all talking about her and hit her beam routine.

  21. Mimi Says:

Thank the Lord a good beam from Kyla.

  22. katecoursey Says:

Thank God for Kyla’s beam…I really hope she gets her head together for selection camp. She may need to work a new bar dismount.

    • Mimi Says:

Kocian being fragile with her sore ankles and weaker beam makes a good case for Kyla if she can get her shit together at camps.

      • Sara Says:

😦 Kyla seems so fragile to me now too, although fortunately for Kyla beam almost seems weaker than bars now..

    • Katie Says:

Kyla has added too much height and not gained enough power and speed to do the double layout anymore, much like nastia. And if the double front isn’t working, maybe she can do the cowboyed 2 1/2?

    • JK Says:

I think Kyla is perfectly capable of doing the double front dismount. She nailed it earlier this year at Jesolo. I think it’s more mental than physical. Ugh, my heart is just breaking for her. She’s had a rough couple of days.

  23. Cupquaked Says:

Kyla’s beam is making me reconsider my earlier remarks…Thank. Goodness.

  24. Tortuga Says:

Simone has a 5.50 lead over 2nd. This is just insane!

    • Case Says:

Simone is absolutely in a class by herself. The rest of this will be Marta’s tinkering.

Gabrielle has her work cut out for her if she thinks she can beat Simone.

      • Mimi Says:

Apparently Martha thinks so too, ha.

      • Katie Says:

I am so glad. After Classics, I was pretty worried. Gabby caused so much debacle in the gym world after her Oprah tour complaining about racism in the gym that her mom never paid after the coach/owner took her in like a daughter. And then right after the Olympics was Dawes swooped in and was giving interviews saying that the Flying Squirrel nickname had racist connotations and from then on her nickname would be golden gabby. I thought it was a really bad look for USAG and especially since Marta herself was kinda/sorta being called a racist, I thought for sure Gabby was done. And then of course the public Chow situation. I guess the last thing wasn’t that bad for USAG because it caused a little bit of “safe” drama for the sport and garnered some headlines for gymnastics that didn’t involve racism, but still. Gabby brings a hurricane of chaos and pity stories. Leaving multiple gyms with unpaid bills and allegations of racism. Plus, it was insane how her own father went from being a deployed soldier who was divorced from her mom but came to her competitions in early 2008 to a dead beat dad by the Olympics. I don’t know the whole story but that was pretty weird. And then you have Simone who actually does have a pity story and she basically never discusses it or plays the victims and is just such a positive role model.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Not to defend Gabby but Biles situation isn’t as big because the media hasn’t gotten ahold of it and she hasn’t won Olympic gold yet. Wait til the media gets ahold of that.

      • Katie Says:

You’re right, I hope it doesn’t turn out the same way, though. It seems like the Biles family has sort of dealt with it, accepted it, acknowledged it, and moved on. The two families are just completely different. Natalie bounced her daughter from gym to gym leaving unpaid bills and coaches in her wake. Natalie and Gabby’s siblings live off Gabby. Gabby created a weird, untrue story right before the Olympics. And maybe it was true but that means that the story that they told at Nationals was untrue. Who knows? And then they sold their screwed up story for a reality show afterwards? On the other hand, Simone’s parents built her a gym (and I know that doesn’t necessarily mean solid finances ala Moceanu’s dad) but they have proven themselves to be reputable people (everyone knew Moceanu’s dad was a complete screwball) and they made sure that they hired Aimee to coach Simone because they recognized how important that relationship was and their younger daughter even continued for the season at the former gym. It doesn’t sound like there was a ton of bad blood when Simone left. Aimee even issued a super classy response to an article about how she had been Simone’s life long coach and she referenced several Bannon’s coaches as helping to shape Simone. Maybe there was a little bad blood bc I’m sure some feathers were ruffled, but overall it seems like they did everything the right way.

    • H Says:

Jordan won in 2011 by over 6 points (regarding NBC)
I did not remember that she was so far ahead a year before the olympics

      • Tortuga Says:

I don’t remember that either. I was surprised. Simone better not have a Jordyn Olympics, I can’t handle that heart ache so soon.

      • TrishaG Says:

McKayla Maroney came in 2nd in 2011, so it’s not really that surprising. Day 1 at 2011 Nationals was an epic disaster, lol. Aly could have cut that lead down to 5 points had she not had such a horrible beam on Day 2 right after Bross vaulted. 😦

      • gymmom2 Says:

Yes, but if you look back at 2011 Jordan scored around 60 each day at Championships (121.3) and Maroney and Aly were way back 115.5 and 114.6 and Gabby was back at 110. By the Olympics qualifying round Aly and Gabby had caught up. The qualifying scores were 60.391, 60.265, and 60.032. Jordan didn’t slip so much as the other two caught up. Jordan needed to have no little mistakes to stay in the hunt and she had some that day. She made the mistake of underestimating the upgrades others might do to catch her. I don’t see anyone catching Simone despite the upgrades the talking heads keep saying they think Gabby must be training. I also think Simone has more in the tank should she choose to go there – and from what I hear she likely will. Even if she doesn’t she scored a 61.1 – WITH A FALL and significant wobbles on beam. She scored at 63. with some significant mistakes. Barring injury, I really don’t see anyone dethroning Simone. She is just an incredible talent. That fact that she is positive and likeable just makes it better.

  25. Cupquaked Says:

Poor Kyla. The kid can’t catch a break.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

gabby was a mess at nationals in 2011 and still got taken to worlds…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She was the alternate and competed when Alicia got hurt

      • Guest Says:

I remember Gabby was not the alternate in Worlds 2011. Alicia got hurt but no one substitute her position in team final so Alicia still got the team medal.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby was originally the alternate. I know that for a fact. Vega was on the team ahead of her and everyone thought she was the alternate and she wasnt.

      • TrishaG Says:

I think Gabby was supposed to be the alternate and Anna Li was going to be the bars specialist, but Anna pulled/injured an abdominal muscle. So then Gabby made the team over Anna, and they still left her off when Alicia got injured.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes this but Gabby was the alternate and I remember people wondering how useless Vega made the team when she brought nothing to ta finals and she ended up competing on 2 or 3 events.

      • gymbot Says:

I would bet that Vega was the planned alternate. She ended up competing bars and beam in finals where the loss of Li and Sacramone were most felt.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

NOOOOOOO. Vega was not the planned alternate. Gabby was. This was big news back in the day because no one understood was Sabrina brought to the table and people figured it was probably her coach being an ex Bela gymnast from Romania that got her the pick much like Davis being Zmeskals gymnast got her pick for whatever world team that was.

The reason no one wants to believe this was the case is because it made no sense but I am telling you this was the scenario.

      • Gymbot Says:

Do you think these favorite situations then will end after Marta leaves? Maybe someone will start adding EF medals to he priority list, it’s not like another team will come close to the us any time soon

      • JAS4 Says:

I still don’t know why Shawn wasn’t taken to Worlds 2011 over Gabby,Anna,or Vega. (Other than Nastia/Marta reasons) Wasn’t it rumored that she had an upgraded bar routine she could have done for worlds? Even if Shawn competed a slightly watered down beam it still would have likely been better than Gabby or Vega on beam. She also competed a decent DTY at Pan Ams so she could have been used on VT at worlds as well.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Shawn won beam at that camp not sure about the bars but Marta was not taking her. Imagine if she was part of that team that won and didn’t make the Olympic team. Marta knew at this point Nastia was coming back. Shawn never had a chance.

      • JAS4 Says:

Wasn’t Nastia on the selection committee for that team as well? I think Shawn just gave up once Marta left her off the world team for no reason and Nastia announced her comeback. I think Shawn saw the writing on the wall at that point and knew that no matter what she did she wasn’t getting the Olympic team. I don’t think she should have pretended to be in the gym when she wasn’t but I see why she would want to quit. She probably just used the knee excuse because she didn’t want to tell everyone the real reason and get shunned by USAG.

  26. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

I’d still put kyla ahead of Gabby for worlds

  27. Tortuga Says:

Once again Maggie kicks ass and doesn’t even get an interview on NBC. That’s probably a good thing because I hate Andrea Joyce.

    • TrishaG Says:

Ugh, I know, right??? Ridiculous that they interviewed GD who finished 5th instead of Maggie, the silver medalist.

  28. Case Says:

And now the race begins to see who can stay healthy for Rio.

  29. tulip Says:

Can I just say how much I hated some of leos tonight? Many of them looked like ice skating costumes. Too much nude fabric…

On the other hand, Maggie was a boss!!

  30. Sara Says:

When did Kocian hit her feet? Also, national team: Biles, Nichols, Raisman, Key, Douglas, Kocian, Ross, Dennis, Baumann, Skinner

  31. JAS4 Says:

I haven’t watched yet (it’s recorded on my dvr ) but I looked at the live scoring and it said that Maggie scored higher on her Amanar than Simone? That’s like Gabby scoring higher than Kyla on VT on night one. Something needs to be done with vault scoring in general. There good vaults get basically the same score as the great vaults and scary vaults score way higher than they should. Did Kyla sit her bars dismount again? If so I hope she fixes it or maybe switches it to a full-in or something. I wonder if Kyla could do a dos Santos because she gets so much height on her double Arabian (usually). Maybe if she did a dos Santos and a double Arabian for her first two passes and then simple passes for her last two it would improve her d score on floor? (Sorry I don’t know much about code stuff)

    • KL21 Says:

I’m think Simone’s score on the live feed is her average for the two vaults she did since 6.3 + 9.9 E is a 16.3

      • JK Says:

Both of Simone’s Amanar vaults got a 6.4 SV because she stuck the landing both times (although I might disagree on her night 2 vault). I still don’t understand why USAG adds an extra tenth to the d-score for stuck landings – it makes no sense to me. I’m pretty sure they don’t do this at Worlds or Olympics, so what’s the point?

Anyways, Simone’s vault (both nights) were great. Aly’s on the other hand… her landing tonight was kinda scary. I hope she doesn’t get a serious injury. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of her gymnastics, I’m rooting for her to make the Worlds (and Olympics) team.

      • TrishaG Says:

It’s to encourage gymnasts to stick landings in competitions. Those tenths of landing deductions add up in international team competition, so giving a small bonus domestically to gymnasts that can stick is an incentive to being a good lander, which will be helpful for the team. The extra tenths help boost the score and/or placement of gymnasts who will be valuable in team competitions.

It’s very common to have domestic bonus systems, and they typically indicate what the national program wants to emphasize or develop in their gymnasts. The stick bonus in the US is pretty small compared to ones in other countries. If a gymnast sticks every event at nationals, she only gets .8 added to her score. Other countries with difficulty bonus can reward that much on a single event. Russia had a domestic bonus system for difficulty that Alexandrov implemented after Beijing when he became head coach. It helped the gymnasts add the difficulty they needed to be competitive again and contributed heavily to their win in 2010. Canada also gives a difficulty bonus, but it might just be for juniors (not sure on the details). I think China does too, mainly for difficulty on vault and floor.

      • JK Says:

Ah, thanks for explaining! Now it makes sense to me!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Maggie did not score higher then Simone on vault.Simone was near perfect night one and small step on night two with small form break and was a lot of overscored but it was still powerful but you are right in theory with vault judges and the way they score. Simone generally deserves 9.7 execution but no one else comes close.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Kyla does usually do well on the double arabian but she never seems to pike skills. Same with beam why not do a front pike tuck or a double pike dismount so something tells me she has issues with piking.

      • JAS4 Says:

I hope that they can do something to upgrade her floor to at least around a 5.8ish d score. Especially if she still wants to contend for an AA spot next year. If not maybe she can just leave her floor as is and just focus on more upgrades for a UB/BB spot (and a back up on VT/FX if needed). I think they should consider getting a sports psychologist to come to camps before major competitions and talk to the girls. (Although Marta may not want anyone undoing her mind games lol)

      • TrishaG Says:

I doubt she can get her floor score that high. She just doesn’t have enough endurance on floor and hasn’t in years. She’s not too good at turns to try to upgrade that way, and I think she’s maxed out on the leaps she can do on floor. Probably better to focus on upgrading beam and bars, and just maintain what she has on vt/fx so she can b used if needed.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah she got rid of the double pike on floor but kept the double tuck.

      • gymbot Says:

She does the double pike on floor as her second pass, and it looks great every time. When she was smaller, she used to a full-in tuck which requires more air time, but it disappeared awhile ago – probably due to her endurance and height issues.

She obviously has been trying to improve her scores, but nothing is consistent enough for her to compete.

Her secret classic bars routine would have been 6.5 if she made the connections. She downgraded it, just to hit the bahardwaj in competition? but she still missed her routine.

On floor she had a whip to double arabian (+0.2) and she has attempted D double turns since 2012, but nothing seems consistent enough for her to keep the skills.

On beam she had side aerial to LOSO in combination and was working arabians, but those never materialized either.

She still has time to make the team, and one year til Rio. Whatever happens, she’s working really really hard and still competing at a very high level.

I’m really hoping to see Nia improve. This gym change might be a great thing for her.

  33. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

wonder if USA G’s deleted video is the gabby interview?

  34. mim Says:

Interesting discussion about raising the high bar for Kyla on GymCastic.. I wonder if that would be a significant help for her.

    • JAS4 Says:

Is that allowed in FIG competitions? If not, I think it should be. It would be nice if they had a standard for what the bar could be raised to according to the height of the gymnast. Even if they just raised it for gymnast over 5’4’/5’5″ or something like that. It would imagine that it would make giants and dismounts easier for her to be competitive with gymnast that are not as tall as Kyla.

      • Mimi Says:

I can’t remember the specifics of the discussion (it’s a fricking long podcast and there are shots involved there) but it’s something to do with her feet not touching the floor when hanging normally but when she swings mid-routine the bar bends down which means they do touch.. There’s some ambiguity about whether that makes her eligible for the height raise. Apparently Kyla said that she thinks she isn’t and Martha has discouraged her from doing so but the Gymcast chick asked some other people about it after the comp (can’t remember who! but someone who seemed to know) said there’s no reason why Kyla shouldn’t be able to ask them to raise it and she would be entitled to some extra warmup time etc as to not put her at a disadvantage. I thought it was interesting. I’m surprised her coaches haven’t pushed it but it Martha frowns upon it maybe they aren’t willing to.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I would never trust what Marta says…in fact I’d be tempted to do the exact opposite. I could tell from this competition that both Kyla and even Bailey are having issues with their height.

I know for kylas sake her parents are pretty tall…her dad is like 6’4″ or something and her mom is above average too. Her body seems to be fighting the whole stunt growth thing.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Never believing Marta is key yet these kids by her BS and so do her coaches

      • TrishaG Says:

Maybe they will now. The extra height would probably help with her dismount. If she tries to go back to a DLO, she’d probably need to raise the bars to get extra height to get it around.

      • JK Says:

There was a German gymnast Marie Sophie Hindermann who had to get the bars adjusted before competitions due to her height (she was 5’9″). I don’t know if Kyla is that tall but if raising the bar would help her, I say go for it. Don’t listen to Marta!

      • Sara Says:

I think part of the concern is the possibility of her having to relearn all her transitions as it would affect the bar spacing. She does quite a few of those…

      • TrishaG Says:

I don’t think it would because both bars are raised, not just one. It would be the same bar spacing, just higher up.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

So let’s ask ourselves whey would Marta not want Kyla to do something that could potentially help her? Hmm.

  35. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if Kyla could do a Moors dismount because she wouldn’t need a lot of swing to do it. I just googled and it is a D element in the code. I might be wrong but it looks like something she could be capable of and she wouldn’t loose any sv. It’s a toe on front layout with a half twist so her height shouldn’t really affect her ability to do it.

    • gymbot Says:

That’s a good option, Ellie Black struggled with various dismounts until switching to Moors dismount and it works well for her now. She even sticks it occasionally.

  36. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

food for thought, the bars rails for usa gymnastics have changed over the last 2 years. they now use the X-rail that has more give, so smaller gymnasts get more height on release moves.
Many taller (normal size) girls have complained that they now hit the floor when working giants.

    • Mimi Says:

That seems spot on with what was discussed. So much give in the bars that it disadvantages a taller gymnast.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

no one uses the x rail in international competition….

      • Exgymgurl Says:

okay actually after some reading it looks like they are using the e-rail which is the next generation x rail

according to this list the fig has not been approved, fig has only approved the x rail and not the erail which came out in 2013

The point of the e rail was to make it easier on the juniors who were smaller and lighter. and to make release skills look better domesticly. Think of those golf balls top flite that the pga wont use. FIG wont use these bars.

This has probably not helped kyla in the US at all. Amelia Hundley now has her height listed at 5’5″ and kyla always shows up taller than that. My guess is 5’7″ because shes taller than her mom now too and her mom is about 5’7″

      • Case Says:

5’7 is a very tall gymnast.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Not only that…we’re not sure if she’s done growing. She still looks to be going through puberty. Khorkina was 5’7″…

      • G Says:

How tall was Ashley Miles? 5’7 too?

      • ilanchik20 Says:

She was taller than Kyla. I can’t remember what she was when she was in elite but I feel like I remember her being 5″9 when she was at Alabama. But that was a while ago. Weren’t the bar settings different then? Also, I feel like the bar settings are diff in college. Maybe lol

      • G Says:

Geez! 5’9 is tall anyway and crazy for a gymnast. I remember she looked straight up amazon next to the others.

  37. Exgymgurl Says:

    i have a comment waiting on moderation….

  38. ilanchik20 Says:

So I was in person. What an amazing meet. I sat next to someone who was screaming Maggie’s name the entire time. Maybe a bf? Not sure. Anyways.

So many impressions but it was an awesome day. Now I want to go to Nationals next year too lol

I was gutted when Kyla sat her bar dismount. But honestly, her entire routine looked labored. She just seems really lacking in endurance. I think she should skip these worlds and work on improving for next year. Worlds are pretty late this year (end of October I think) so if she goes, I can’t imagine that she’d have enough time to fix all her problems by next summer!

And Maggie was fab but her form is very bad. It’s much more visible in person. Even though she placed 2nd, I don’t think she’ll be the second AA’er at Worlds (if she makes the team, I’m not convinced she is a lock). I think it’ll be Aly or Gabby.

Aly and Simone in person. Gorgeous.

P.S I ran into Carly in the bathroom, fun times lol

    • G Says:

I think Maggie’s boyfriend is a men’s junior and his name is Anton. Maybe it was him!

Did you talk to Carly at all? I saw some pictures of her and Shannon Miller hanging out.

  39. Dee Says:

I watched early this morning cause Baseball was on last night instead of the meet for some reason.

I have no idea who will be on the world team now. I have a feeling Kyla might not be there this time. I feel like she might get left behind as motivation.

I felt like no attention was paid to skinner compared to other meets and I was pretty pleased with that…I just can’t get on that bandwagon.

key is growing on me, I used to not think she was very exciting but she seems to be that classic type of gymnast that I feel like the U.S. Is lacking a little. So many girls with big, flashy routines makes it hard to appreciate someone like Key but I can see her maybe being on a big team soon.

Does anyone know when the world’s team will be selected? I’m so curious now, especially since Kyla had such a rough time. The shot of Marta’s face after her bar routine sent chills down my spine…and I feel like I heard she didn’t even bother to watch her beam? She’s always loved Kyla but now I feel like she’s gonna get the cold shoulder.

    • ilanchik20 Says:

I’m not sure I see Kyla on the World’s team but it could be a good thing. Kyla will be off school next year and not having to be basically in major training mode for 2 months for Worlds, might be what she needs to improve her chances for Rio.

I haven’t seen the actual broadcast yet but I feel like Kyla still has Marta’s support. If Marta really wanted to show a point, she could have left her off the NT team (Kyla come in 10th) like she left Locklear and the entire pan and off the nt team.

I sat four rows behind Marta (good seats lol) and she didn’t look thrilled but I think NBC over exaggerates everything! Pretty much everyone in the audience gasped when Kyla sat down her bars dismount–it wasn’t just Marta lol

I have no clue who she is taking to Worlds. We don’t need this many aa’ers. I feel like I heard that in some interview, Marta said that she wasn’t happy with gabby because “gabby is not working hard enough in practices.” No clue if it’s true so don’t quote me.

I think she is going to take Kocian. And I think Skinner is staying home. Not sure about Maggie. I say Key will be going.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes Marta said that about Gabby according to Tim. It’s in my blog

      • ilanchik20 Says:

I guess I should prob read your entire blog post lol

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Don’t worry about it no one actually reads it they just come here to socialize I should charge like a dating service 🙂

      • JK Says:

Whoa, Ashton didn’t make NT? That’s kinda surprising to me. I remember during the broadcast Tim said Marta really likes her.

I think Maggie’s going to Worlds. I don’t know what her chances are of qualifying to the AA but she has an Amanar, so I think she’ll replace Skinner’s role on vault. Bailie I think is going. Kocian, Aly, Simone (duh) also. Now the 6th person, I have no idea. Gabby? (please no). Kyla? (I hope). Alyssa?

Stupid question, but are the girls who make NT the only ones eligible to make Worlds team?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta can name anyone she wants to the camps but it would be hard for someone not a specialist to make the world team if they weren’t good enough to make National team. On the men’s side they added the guy who finished 13th ( i think)to the world team so figure that one out. They also added him late to the National team.

The key will be is Ashton Kutcher gets her bars start value back would they take her over say Kocian who has the bars but can be very inconsistent but could back up an injury on all 4 events if anyone got hurt even if she isn’t great at those events

  40. KG Says:

I also think Maggie has sealed her spot to worlds. If you place less than third consecutively, there is room for debate in Marta’s head IMO, but she just keeps placing higher and higher so I think she has locked her spot as much as one can do so in such a fickle sport.

I think how international judges score her will say a lot about her future in Marta’s team. If she scores well enough and proves consistency on the big stage she’ll have really done herself some favors for he Olympic year discussion.

    • KG Says:

Should have added that besides Maggie I think Simone of course and Aly have locked their spots to worlds as well.

I think Bailey will go too. She might not be everyone’s favorite or the most standout gymnast, but she’s consistent and scores well. I don’t think they’ll leave her at home.

I think GD will go too. And last spot is beyond me, but I think Kocian or Kyla will get it and other will be alternate. If Kyla is alternate I think she’ll be he traveling alternate because Kocian’s so fragile. I don’t think Nia, skinner or baumann will get it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Gabby hitting bars was huge because other wise not a single routine she did deserves “lock” status for worlds right now.

      • KG Says:

I agree. She needed that bars score. I would have said Kocian had GD’s spot, but her other events don’t cut it and GD has the limelight advantage. Plus, Kocian seems to be injured all the time and Marta hates fragility/unreliability.

I honestly don’t think Marta likes GD that much and that was as much confirmed with her throwing shade with her comments about not working hard or whatever in practice. If she doesn’t take her to worlds though, the media backlash will be harsh, so for that reason alone she is a lock, IMO, but bars secured it.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think she is trying to motivate her. I talked to a few people at Nationals who say Gabby was not happy with 5th place and her attitude showed it

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Kocian also messed up bars on prelims at worlds and I don’t remember her exact score but it wasn’t much better than Kyla’s in team finals. The real thought process here is Ashton and would Marta take her just for bars if she gets her start value up and hits at camp. She now has a better rep than Kocian outside the Country. I know it seems like Ashton is irrelavent now that Kocain hit bars 2 meets in a row but Worlds is 2 months away. Entire new ball game. Not sure a bars specialist is needed at worlds with 3 Amanars and we know how Marta loves vault. I really want to see if Skinner makes this world team.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Just looked and realized Gabby finished 4th on bars not third which means if Ashton gets her start value back and Marta takes her Gabby doesn’t actually fir on this team with no other event. She is going to have to step it up.

      • Mimi Says:

The cynic in me says Kocian gets injured before Worlds. I hope not for her sake but she’s just so fragile. I’m not a massive Skinner fan necessarily but I think she can’t be counted out just yet. Skinner’s AA score wasn’t much less than Kocian’s, and she puts up a better vault and floor. The judges also didn’t hate Skinner as much as everyone anticipated and they seemed pretty ambivalent about Kocian. She seems to improve as the gym season continues and seems less injury prone. *shrugs* So many variables here.. depends on how much Kocian’s health, if Kyla improves, how much Martha truly values Kyla’s experience, whether Gabby can prove to Martha that she’s serious and how Ashton trains/whether she’s added to the national team.

    • Cupquaked Says:

I think you are absolutely spot on. And Marta even gave an interview where she said that Maggie was the most improved gymnast of this quad. I couldn’t agree more with that. 2 years ago none of us could have predicted her success last night! Her form needs some work but a year away from the Olympics and I say barring any injuries she’s going to be on the world team and at least make alternate for Olympics if she works on form issues.

In my mind the locks for the U.S. are Simone and Maggie with Aly a very close 3rd. With Bailie included for her consistency. I think GD has started to slip back into her inconsistent status circa 2011. Something keeps nagging at me that she’s not training nearly as hard as she would like people to believe. She’ll probably be in the worlds team but she’ll probably choke somewhere in competition. I don’t see her in Rio.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

The real test for Gabrielle is next year and the endorsements she will be offered vs training for the team. She was in several commercials for the winter Olympics and if she keeps her name in the mix enough to make the National team those endorsement offers will come ten fold next year. Your point about is she training hard enough seems valid by Marta’s comments but the scoring between Classics and Nationals for her were day and night and her routines weren’t that different. Not sure Marta is sold on her yet but as long as she stays onm bars at camp she will be on that world team regardless of what else she competes.

  41. G Says:

Anyone know what happened to Madison Desch? Did she get hurt night one?

    • TrishaG Says:

She started having back pain after Pan Ams, and it got really bad during night one, which is why she decided not to vault. She tried to warm up on night two, but was in too much pain to compete.

  42. H Says:

Martha said in interview that Locklear and Dowell will also be invited to camp. Happy for both, what a joy for Dowell:-)

    • Sara Says:

      Thrilled for both of them!!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Probably inviting them to play mind games with Kyla. Honestly though Kyla needs to hit her bars if she’s to be considered for Worlds. Otherwise she’ll be left for the likes of Kocian or possibly Ashton. I don’t see Marta ever taking Brenna but I do see her taking a Woga girl over Kyla. Sadly, even GD can take Kyla’s spot if she cleans up beam and is more consistent but the fact Marta is saying something about her workouts is kind of telling me that she thinks GD is still a risk and too preliminary at this point for a Worlds team. I could be wrong though.
Still if Bailey is beating Kyla at bars and Kyla can’t get it together, she might be a non-factor for Worlds and even Rio. She can’t even be consistent with fairly watered-down routines…
And I have to be honest I don’t know if she’s done growing…

  43. Exgymgurl Says:

Marta says kylas problem is fitness and endurance. She also says gabby needs her amanar. And higher SV on bars. And consistency on beam. She also talks about invites to worlds camp

  44. Gymbot Says:

I get a sense from this that Marta wants Kyla on that team

    • Dee Says:

I couldn’t watch 4 minutes of a gymnasike interview LOL but I also got that sense. I have to say I am surprised….I thought Marta would be super pissed. However, I do think that she values consistency over anything (even difficulty), so as long as Kyla gets her consistency back I think she might be on the worlds team after all. A tiny part of me still wouldn’t be surprised if Marta leaves her home just to make a point and then takes her to Rio anyway.

I think my guess for the world team now is Simone, Kocian, Aly, Maggie and maybe Key or Gabby. I think Kocian because I keep hearing a lot about her lately, and I think Marta will give Maggie the chance but if she doesn’t hit I think she will be dropped like a hot potato.

I feel like at this point in the quad, much like last time, we do not need so many AA gymnasts and we do not need so many veterans/comebacks. While I think it will be hard to leave Aly home, I’m not totally sold that Gabby will be on the Rio team. There just is not enough space anymore for repeat Olympians….and while Aly is looking so good, we have seen veterans be left home in the past, so I think that if another lesser known gymnast starts impressing at camp she could be left behind, too. There is just so much depth that the US doesn’t really “need” any experienced girls anymore. That used to be the case (’96, ’00 – IMO), now it’s just not all that necessary.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

yes, well, shes told kyla what to do and what she has to do. its probably better that marta thinks its fitness level because of the injuries over head casieness which marta doesnt like or fix. She told shawn to fix things also and shawn just didnt. But her whole demeanour shows she wants kyla on the team. She also mentioned brenna and ashton coming to world selection camp and the injured girls? Im guessing desch ? meals wont be fixed from a torn mensicus by then will she? Im glad brenna is getting invited to camp and ashton also. maybe gowey as well.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

kyla really isnt a comeback, she never stopped. gabby doesnt have her full difficulty, shes inconsistent, and im sure nia had a good reason for leaving buckeye when she did. aly has more difficulty than in 2012. i fully expect gabby to “injure out” of worlds camp. i fully expect kyla to work her ass off and be miss consistent at camp.
I dont think marta will pick kocian. i think she was getting woga benefit from nastia being on the comment team. Kocian doesnt really have anything else she can throw in and she should be doing more if she wants to compete against a full strength ashton.

with three amanars, skinner isnt needed, aly essentially replaces skinner simone yes, maggie yes, aly yes, but the other three? im not even sure marta is sold on bailie key. bailie reminds me of ivana hong with less beautiful gymnastics. With maggie, aly and simone you need a really strong bar worker, (maybe two) a strong beam worker, and a fourth floor routine in three spots. Kyla if shes consistent fits that. gabby doesnt fit that right now. It would be nice to take kyla skinner and ashton as the other three because you have four vaults over a dty, (skinner raisman, nichols, biles)four solid higher scoring floor routines (skinner, raisman, nichols, biles)four solid beam (biles, ross, nichols, raisman) and four solid bars (ashton, ross, nichols, biles) . Four solid on every aparatus gives you an alternate sub routine if anyone is hurt right there on the floor for 3 up 3 count. Thats got to be the algorithm they use to pick the team.

      • TrishaG Says:

What was Shawn told to fix?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

She was told to take the full twist off beam. In past all girls we re told no risks getting on beam and she was right ask Alicia. She also made Kyla lower her start value on bars in 2012. Kyla had a 6.6 start value she was hitting consistently and Marta made her lower it. Don’t get me started on why I think she did that. Marta is known for making people take things out of routines for the alleged betterment of the team when we all know that is BS. Control freak that she is.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

What full twist? The full back that Gabby also does? Shawn did that so well I can only imagine she told Shawn to take it out to make her less competitive.

      • Cupquaked Says:

Brenna getting invited to camp seems so bittersweet. I’m happy for her but I highly doubt Marta will take her for Worlds unless she had a fantastic bar set and hits above Kocian and Locklear. Even then, it’s hard to believe she’d do that. She isn’t very forgiving and Al Fong kinda stuck it to her last year when they refused the international assignments after Worlds (that was Brenna, right? Not Ebee?). But I LOVE Brenna and I love the support she’s getting from OU. You can tell they truly value and appreciate her. I wish she would stick with them and forget all about Marta and her silly games.

      • Mimi Says:

Yeah I wondered who the two injured girls were… Probably Desch and Gowey, right?

I get the sense Marta actually really values Kyla and probably like her on a personal level much more than Gabby, particularly because she just going after London instead of becoming a media fiend. Serious question- how do they fix endurance issues? These girls are so fit already! At least Kyla is full time in the gym without school now.

      • ilanchik20 Says:

I think the two injured girls are Desch and Amelia. Polina is injured too (recovering from back injury, always) but I don’t think she was invited to the selection camp.

Rachel wasn’t necessarily injured, just still recovering from prior issues.

I actually wish World’s were earlier this year. There is not enough time between worlds and rio (so Simone and Aly need to stay healthy!!)

      • Tortuga Says:

There are perks and disadvantages to being on the worlds team. Usually the Olympic team consists of the same members give or take one or two. But since worlds is so late this year I’m starting to agree with others and think maybe Kyla should stay home from worlds. She has been at basically every major competition for the past 3 years and hasn’t had a break from elite the past 7 or 8 years? Not that staying home from worlds will be a break but it will give her more time to get her endurance up recover from injuries. Plus it would really motivate her to come back stronger.

  45. KG Says:

I feel like there is almost no chance of Marta taking Brenna Dowell, so even inviting her to camp is, IMO, a cruel head game. Go to college Brenna, and have a fabulous time!

Like everyone else is saying, the worlds team is a total pre Olympic trials, Olympic team tryout.

I know there will be an event specialist, but is it just me or is there a lack of two event specialists? most have one overt specialty and one lackluster/passable second event. Does anyone think she would take someone solely for one event? Like locklear or Kocian? If Kyla gets it together she of course fits the bill: bars and beam with the added advantage of a clean dty if someone’s Amanar isn’t hitting.

    • KG Says:

And obviously she took Maroney for just vault, but Marta loves vault and code of points loved the Amanar, and Maroney also went pro and was a Penny favorite/media star, which is not the case for any current event specialists.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Marta lied. She laid no one event gymnasts and hid Mckayla’s injury so she could take her

      • ilanchik20 Says:

Ugh Marta! I’ll be forever bitter that Alicia didn’t go. Or Ebbie.

i like Maroney but her vault didn’t even score that much higher than the rest but I guess that not her fault lol.

Skinner is technically a two event person and she could also get a vault medal so I guess anything is possible haha. Marta could take Kocian and Skinner and leave Gabby at home. Did I say that? Oooops haha.

Actually now that I said it, unless Gabby has an amanar and has amazing bars, she can stay at home. Yeah, that won’t happen lol or if Gabby gets an Amanar, Maggie’s stock will be going down, ugh. I wish they showed the camp competition too haha

    • G Says:

I feel like right now Kocian and Locklear don’t really score high enough internationally to break into the top 3 in an EF. World’s last year proved that and the field will be even stronger the closer it get’s to Rio. I actually don’t think we really have any strong event specialists right now compared to last quad.

Unrelated but I did a leo panel on my blog if anyone is interested (and Skinner’s shamrock leo scored the lowest…:)

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I agree. They do not have super routines to stand out enough to be chosen for one event. I say someone gets a solid TTY and we end this stupid UB specialist talk

      • Exgymgurl Says:

simone and amee were told not to do the tty because the amanar will score well enough she doesnt need it. same with double double off beam. we could easily win at worlds by 10 points or more. Marta doesnt need to kill the rest of the world which would result in drastic code changes to increase parity, she needs to just win comfortably. She needs kyla over someone like kocian because world judges love her

    • Dee Says:

I think it’s mean she invited Brenna, I feel like it was just a head game. I get her leaving college for a bit to try to make Rio, but I just feel like it’s heartbreak road for her all the time.

  46. JAS4 Says:
    • Case Says:

Wow GTT, I think the Red Sox made a great hire in Dombrowski. Still thing we made the wrong move letting him go. He did a great job bringing in quality talent and making shrewd trades. We should’ve fired the manager and not him. (And I trust he will find a way to creatively get rid of Porcello if he doesn’t start pitching better.)

https://usagym.org/pages/post.html?PostID=17197&prog= Baumann, Biles, Dennis, Desch, Douglas, Dowell, Gowey, Hundley, Key, Kocian, Locklear, Nichols, Raisman, Ross, Skinner for World team training squad.

My wish would be Biles, Nichols, Raisman, Key, Ross, and Dowell. But I know the probability of that team is incredibly slim. 😦

    • KG Says:

oops! I didn’t see you had already posted!

    • H Says:

My wish would be: Biles, Nichols, Raisman, Dowell, Locklear and ?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Not a fan of Dowell’s gymnastics (except her front tumbling on floor), and if she can’t be consistent she doesn’t deserve to be on that team. Sorry – I mean, I get her story being really awful but it’s like she keeps coming back for more abuse. She should just pull an Ebee and give Marta the finger and go to college. And stay there. We all know she’ll not be on Rio.

I think Biles and Nichols deserve to be on that team, but Marta doesn’t look at stuff that way.

I see Key being on that team too for her bars, and I feel like Marta would want to take her to see how she’s judged internationally for her new routines and as a senior. Something tells me Marta would want her on the Rio team, if not for a back-fill position.

        Biles is a lock.

Aly is pretty much a lock too and deserves it at this point. She may have fallen on beam night one at Nationals but that can be considered nearly a fluke.

My team (at this point) would be:
Kocian or Baumann…and likely winner out of this duo might be Kocian because bars are weaker for the US than beam.

      • Tortuga Says:

I don’t think Dowell is likely. After Fong turned down international assignments and Dowell has crashed so much in competition I don’t think there’s anyway she could make it. I commend her on her effort, because when she hits she has an amazing bar set. I also don’t think it’s realistic to think Douglas will get left home from a world team with Ross going. Douglas has been consistent, not beautiful in the least but consistent. And Marta loves her all arounders.

My realistic team at this point would be:
Kocian/Ross (Personally I prefer Ross because she can offer routines on 3 events where Kocian really only has one great event being bars)

These all depend on how they hold up at camp. Kocian and Ross both have a lot to prove. The others just have to keep consistent and not get injured and I think they’re in. You know it doesn’t really matter who goes,we will still win. But it obviously helps your case to make an Olympic team if you were on the worlds team the year before.

    • G Says:

My wish is the same as yours but yeah seems unlikely. I’m thinking it will most likely be Biles, Nichols, Raisman, Key, Douglas and Kocian/Ross for the last spot.

    • brainy Says:

Does anyone know what Locklear does at these training camps, while everyone else is training vault and floor? What does any “specialist” do during these periods while the AA’ers are training on all apparatus?

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

I remember she said on her ask.fm account one time that during the vault rotation she just does extra conditioning. She was getting her floor back for a while before she reinjured her shoulder so she was doing that rotation.

well what a nice thing for bogi to say looks like simone and aimee both got some end of summer $$ working a camp this week

Sam and Bridget’s coach might be a real creep :/ http://www.wthr.com/story/29861893/federal-local-authorities-raid-northwest-side-home?utm_content=bufferae587&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

    • Mimi Says:

People I follow on Twitter have said allegedly some sort of crime squad dealing with online crime is involved.
      So, so awful.

      • Tortuga Says:

Gymcastic posted it was a Crimes Against Children unit that raided his home. Also the story was updated that he has been arrested but not what for. But sounds like they obviously found something. I’m wondering if Sam and Bridget will say anything.

      • Tortuga Says:

Also Sam’s mom is high up in USAG so this looks bad on them as well.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh this is Jared Subway bad…and USAG is probably running around playing the “CYA” game

      • Case Says:

        Yuck, glad they caught him.

    • Dee Says:

My friend just sent me this and it gave me the creeps. I’m curious if Sam or Bridget say anything as well.

      • Tortuga Says:

So far it has been confirmed he has been arrested on an initial charge of child molestation. Yuck yuck yuck!!!!

  51. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

    What is this: http://www.usagymworlds.com/teamusa/

    • H Says:

An instant shock until I realised it was last year team …

But it seems that They are going to stream the quals etc

  53. ilanchik20 Says:

    More on charges again Sharp:

I think I saw a statement from USA gym somewhere, just no link here.

    • KG Says:

Gross. Wonder what Bridget and Sam have to say about it. I also wonder if rumors circulated around the gym world about it or if it is a total shock to everyone.

      • ilanchik20 Says:

I hope they say nothing. How awful. It must be especially rough on Sloan who competed with Sharp her entire club career.

I should go back and see what statement USAG released.

Would USAG put him on a banned coach list? I wonder.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

People need to wait til 100% of the facts come out before judging. Plenty of people have been accused of crimes they didn’t commit so I think until all the evidence is out people should wait before they hang the man.
Find him guilty then nail his ass to the wall.

      • ilanchik20 Says:

I agree. We should wait till more info comes out, particularly cause this seems rather sudden accusations. But I do hope that NBC doesn’t try to get Sloan or Sam involved.

      • Gymbot Says:

Possession of child pornography is illegal. The photoshoots with the children are weird and sick regardless if he touched them or not.

      • KG Says:

Yes, you’re right. We shouldn’t judge too much until a trial/etc. still, if what I read is right, they got him on one count of something (reported by a kid?), then searched his house, carried out evidence in boxes, and then later added charges… That doesn’t bode well for his innocence…

      • KG Says:

And Bridget Sloan has always been a favorite of mine… So I’m actually really grieved to hear about this for her sake.

      • Dee Says:

Now that more details of this have come out I hope the major news networks leaves all his gymnasts and former gymnasts alone. I’m so creeped by this, mostly by the fact that he kept photos at the gym. I think usag has to ban him if this is true, if it is true I also wonder what will happen to the gym.

  54. Cupquaked Says:

Read somewhere on Twitter that Seda Tutkhalyan said Mustafina is taking a break from elite??? I wonder if that’s true. And if it is then why because the last time I checked she was the queen of Russian gymnastics at the moment…

    • ilanchik20 Says:

I saw that on Tumbler. I went and read the original comment on Seda’s ask.fm (in Russian). That’s what she said but that thing has been hacked in the past so I’m not convinced. It would be a rather weird timing.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Do Russians even call it Elite gymnastics?

      • ilanchik20 Says:

        I speak Russian and I don’t think I do.

I went back to seda’s original ask.fm (in Russian) (as have a few other Russian speaking people on tumbler) and all it was, “did Aliya quit IG?” “Yes”, “Is Aliya still competing?” “I don’t know.” So basically all this is Aliya quiting/getting rid of Instangram. On that note, Although “I don’t know,” is a weird response, it’s not an indication of anything.

People stop using Google translate! Haha
