2015 US Senior Nationals : Day 1-LIVE Blogging :NOW

Lets discuss start value.

Gabby got a 5.6 start value on floor which means they gave her credit for one or both her double turns she was short on both and took off only for them being messy. Judges still being judges.

Gabby got a 6.3 start value on beam. Again getting credit for stuff she didn’t deserve.

Kyla only got credit for a 6.0 on bars. If she made the dismount she would have scored a 15.550 (her start value is a 6.5 if she hits. Maybe gymbot can tell me if I am right. Is there a connection bonus with her dismount that took away her start value because the videos you showed has her start value at a 6.5 if hit. Would explain the 6.0 start value.

Kyla only got a 5.9 start value on beam which was effected by the missed wolf. I feel like the beam judges gave some gifts to everyone tonight especially Gabby but Aly wasn’t as lucky.

6.2 for Skinner on floor. The double double laid out was very piked any chance she didn’t get credit?

Simone got 6.6 on beam which is generous.

URGH Judges

The low down.

Simone is human. Nice to see her beam scored fairly when she made mistakes but she is still better then the rest.

Maggie stayed on all 4. Good for her. Still find her form messy but she impressed me tonight.

What a sucky night. Yes Gabrielle stayed on all 4 events but with huge errors on floor and a beam routine that was a mess she was still given some gifts no one else would get.

Kyla I can’t even. I still love you but this is a mind game with you. Hitting your 2 no upgrade events and falling on the other two is in your head, I am writing a Dear Kyla letter for a blog, maybe tomorrow.

Brenna Dowell was great tonight and the one gymnast I felt was underscored.

Aly would be in second without the fall even with the gift on floor her Amanar only got a 15.200 which is still high but not as bad as it could have been.

Skinner hit four for four. Good for her.

Simone got a 9,850 execution score on her Amanar and every bit was deserved (crossed feet and maybe slight leg separation at end so maybe a 9.8 but wow. I can’t keep saying wow. That was Mckayla Maroney wow

Rotation 4

1. Simone Biles 61.100
2. Maggie Nichols 59.700
3. Gabrielle Douglas 58.700

Nia, DTY. Full of power
Kocian hit bars but was short on last handstand before dismount.
Kyla missed ounch front wolf and ommited wolf altogether then big bobble on leap. Oy Oy Oy.

4 for 4 Maggie. Hit floor. (14.550)

Brenna DTY. OOB but great for her 4 for 4 too

Gowey stayed on bars but missed some handstands. Flat feet too.

Hundley stayed on beam but a bit messy.

Typical Skinner floor.

NAILED Amanar for Simone. WOW small step on second vault but still very nice

Aly hit bars but not pretty (14.125)

Gabby fell out of both double turns and a jump and shouldn’t get credit for any of them. Then short on her second pass. 13.850 FINALLY A score she deserved.

Come to think of it 2 day competitions are a lot different then a Classic/ Jeselo one day event (event finals day 2 but still not a real prelims, team final, AA and EF)

Rotation 3

1- Maggie

Amanar, OOB Aly

Ashton hit bars

Gabrielle had a messy beam with missed connections and a few short leaps and a not even close switch ring but she stayed on.

Simone fell on her last pass. WTF Marta is phychcing out her best asset.

Nope. She fell on her dismount. OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Maggie hit beam but some bobbles and missed connections

I don’t want to watch this anymore.

Nia hit floor and Hundley bars with a trouble on one handstand.

Hit routine for Skinner with leap issues galore on beam. 14. 3 something

Brenna hit her tumbling big time but issues on leaps. (14.300)

Forgot about Bailie again til she showed up to floor. Short triple twist and double layout

Rotation 2

1. Maggie Nichols 30.750
2. Gabrielle Douglas 30.400
3. Simone Biles 29.950
4. Alexandra Raisman 29.300
5. Alyssa Baumann 29.050
5. Amelia Hundley 29.050
7. Bailie Key 28.900
8. MyKayla Skinner 28.800
9. Emily Schild 28.650
10. Kyla Ross 28.600
11. Lauren Navarro 28.500
12. Brenna Dowell 28.450
13. Megan Skaggs 28.250
14. Nia Dennis 28.200
15. Madison Desch 26.950
16. Madison Kocian 26.900
17. Rachel Gowey 14.400
18. Polina Shchennikova 13.700

That girl has a very nice handstand but wobbly girl wins.

Anyone know Gabby’s DTY Score?

Skinner hit her bars. No big mistakes just form and handstand misses but good for her.

Hand on beam for Key. Missing a lot of connections. 13.700

Kyla needs a sorts shrink because all of this is in her head.

Stuck DTY for Kyla.Preflight form again

Gabrielle was short on a few handstands but bet she doesn’t get deducted.

Simone was shaky to start but got it together second half. She stayed on but not her best.

Aly hit floor looked like she might have been OOB but announcers say no.

Desch didn’t miss her full layout. Big bobble for Kocian and her double front.

DTY hit for Hundley. Polina’s bars are a mes. Nia hit bars I forgot to watch looking for scores.
Brenna stayed on beam then took two huge steps on dismount.

Rotation 1

Brenna hit with one mistake. Nice for her.

Gowey stayed on with a few bobbles but she stayed on. She will fall tomorrow.

Nice job by Hundley on floor. Small step on double back bigger step on double pike.

Everyone is hitting. How boring. Note to self Baumann is the pretty Wogaaete. Few missed connections or slow more like it.

Tortuga a messy pak but hit. Any score yet?

Don’t like Gabrielle leo. Changed my mind. Nice DTY but some form.

Beautiful routine by Simone. (UB 15.150)

Aly NOOOOOOOOOO Fall on beam.

Pretty sure Kyla out her hand on floor. This night sucks. 13.550 only got a 5.4 start value. Really Kyla?

Maggie’s Amanar was ugly. Sorry much worse than her other ones especially after the block. (15.800)

Melanie Video

Aly starts on beam and Kyla ends on beam. Conspiracy theory

Desch off bars. Kocian off beam. Oy

Nia hit feet on floor on bars but thing was beautiful before that well maybe not beautiful she missed some handstands.

Okay well I forgot my nieces were sleeping over and guess who just showed up? I am about to start the best investment I have ever made, the movie Frozen. That should give me an hour:)

Anyone have a working start list with scores?

According to twitter feed I am following Bailie is wearing a version of Kim’s 1990 leo. OMG Kim please get over your own failure.

Place is half empty. wow I hope its late people.

Computer is working well (so far) as long as video cooperates I will be live blogging tonight. Please make sure to join me later and check the live blog for comments to your comments:)

Yes John because all the gym fans in the arena are stupid and don’t understand the way scoring works. Then again….

I have music and no video.

I hoe they show the gymnasts being introduced

Those 2 ignorant little girls just cut the line. How rude.

This isn’t a gymnastics meet it’s a freaking summer camp. I am old. What is a whip and Nene?

Oh look Carly’s National title gift:)

The childs choir sound great but really why?

Sainabou Nyang this isn’t a gymnastics competition it’s a summer camp.

We are going in order of success right because Sam being last is funny.

‘Hooker heals”

Bridget just ducked or they would have shot a shirt into her head.lol

Sorry Simone you are behind the comeback in that montage.

Kyla is wondering why she is in this loser group.

Sainabou Nyang I know they want to entertain but the die hards are watching and the every 4 year fans think it starts Saturday.

Riley is a cute child and a great dancer but that hair.

Love the leo’s by Simone and Kyla. I even like Gabrielle’s.

Sam you are such a pretty girl so please stop talking and proving you’re a blond.

Go Kyla. Funny, I think I said this same thing in 2011.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

I only leave Simone out because I know she’ll like, win. Barring really unforeseen circumstances.

  3. Sainabou Nyang Says:

Dear god please start the competition! I cant take John M anymore lol

  4. Sainabou Nyang Says:

Gtt so true lol. Summer camp indeed.

  5. Tortuga Says:

OMG Brenna finally hit a bar routine. Still don’t think she will have a chance but I’m glad she finally hit.

  6. Tortuga Says:

Gabby only did a DTY. If Aly hits she can take 2nd.

  7. Melanie Says:

    Aly fell on beam! What??

  8. sanitynmotion Says:

Where are you guys viewing this?

  9. Melanie Says:

Kyla touched the floor for no apparent reason on her floor dismount…ugh…

    But Maggie’s vault was great!

    • Tortuga Says:

1st rotation has had a lot of falls, Kocian fell on beam as well.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I think I saw Maddison K’s beam…I suspect she’ll give Kyla a run for her money for the beam/bar specialist.

Kyla’s dismount on floor – that should have been easy for her, no? A double tuck?

Maggie gets a great block but she crosses her legs at the end and I”m not a fan of that.

      Sam sucks.

  10. Melanie Says:

I have to say, the male commentator sounds like a bitchy gym fan. But, he’s already pointed out the ridiculous number of wolf turns, the ugly wrist choreo of Megan Skaggs, and even made a snarky comment about the GAGE leos….I kind of like him, I hate to admit.

    • gymbot Says:

Anyone who knows anything about gymnastics tends to be a bitchy gym fan 🙂

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m liking the dude commentator. Can we have him and ASac?

Dude, Sam totally jinxed Simone on floor saying “she makes it look too easy”…then Simone falls. Wow.

  11. katecoursey Says:

Ugghhhhhh Aly…when was the last time she ever fell off beam?

    • sanitynmotion Says:

She put her hand down on it during the AA at the Olympics. I remember screaming at the TV.

      • katecoursey Says:

Yeah I remember that…I know grabbing the beam is basically a fall, but for some reason it’s just so bizarre to see her actually on the ground. And I’m annoyed because I wanted her to medal 🙂

  12. katecoursey Says:

Simone fell. I just can’t even handle this.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

KYLA just fell. Can she get rid of that bar dismount? She had a perfectly nice double layout!

      • katecoursey Says:

And I hate that she finally hit the Bhardwaj after falling at Secret Classic and then fell at the very end.

      • gymbot Says:

She lost the DLO, her taps are too slow because of her height. It’s the same issue N. Liukin had before she got the double front half-out mess

      • sanitynmotion Says:

sucks; didn’t seem it was that long ago she had a great one.

      • gymbot Says:

It was still great in 2013, but all of 2014 she hopped around on it.

She was nailing everything before. I think her landings are problematic because of her ankle injury. Even if she continues to sit things down, I think she’s still on the worlds team and will look better by October.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Seems to be something on beam. Nobody is getting much height and landings are all off.

The wolf turns have to STOP. They are all ugly.

Maggie just proved me wrong though on floor. Only Maggie and maybe Simone should do the wolf turns on floor.

All of them on beam are just ugly. Did they get upgraded or something? Seems everyone has them now. Even the commentators are saying that.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

That is a good point. No need to peak in August for any of them

      • Exgymgurl Says:

i think kyla has grown some more even…

  13. Tortuga Says:

And Kyla fell on her bars dismount. Can we just have a re-do of day 1? I’m screaming and punching my pillow.

  14. Melanie Says:

Is Gabby going to be the only one to hit 4-4?

Maggie, please hit so that the above statement does not come true.

  15. sanitynmotion Says:

Maggie 14.55 on floor…what did Gabbie get?

Did Sam just mistake Gabby for Simone? OK she needs to be fired.

  16. Cupquaked Says:

Honestly all the drama of tonight makes night 2 even more exciting. It’s boring when everyone hits. I’m just crossing my fingers no one actually injure themselves on any of these falls.

  17. Tortuga Says:

Simone’s amanar stick, DAMN GIRL! Glad she finished on such a great note.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

      Simone’s vault near flawless.

Gabby’s floor – super messy, all the turns and some of the leaps she had difficulty in even getting around/completed. Maggie should get a higher score IMO. And one of Gabby’s landings was very short.

Aly’s bars…leaves much to be desired.

      • gymbot Says:

I don’t like Aly’s bars, but it’s a good routine for her. I think she’s better on bars than in 2012

      • H Says:

gymboat – do you think she will upgrade bars?

and how do you see it could be possible for Aly?

      • Gymbot Says:

I don’t think so. She played with all of her connections using the same skills she has had for he past few years and they chose this routine in the end. It’s a safe routine, I think she’ll keep it

      • H Says:

        Ok. thanks:-)
I had a naive hope that they would find a safe way to up it a tenth or two but maybe that is just ….
I wonder if she is able to raise her e-score – I think maybe a 0.1 for leg separation handstand turns low bar, 0.1 transition to high bar, 0.1 transition again to low bar + a 0.1 for one of the releases. .4 all together. How do you see it, realistically?

Do you know if she gets an additional .1 for the added leap after double pike on floor?

      • gymbot Says:

I don’t know where all the tenths go to be honest. You could be totally correct! I imagine judges automatically deduct on every single element they can identify, so as long as she keeps connecting skills, she’ll minimize her overall deductions. The best bar routines (E score wise) seem to avoid kips and minimize the additional C and below elements.

  18. sanitynmotion Says:

13.85 on floor for Gabby…sounds about right.

  19. Melanie Says:

Wow, surprising scores. Looks like Gabby wasn’t nearly as overscored this time around. Nearly 2.5 points behind Simone AFTER Simone fell and had a wobbly beam? There’s no way Gabby’s catching her. Hell, Aly and Bailie both would have been ahead of Gabby had they not fallen/touched on beam.

Go Maggie. I hate to be all hipster, but I liked her a long time ago because she always hit her leaps. She’s not always perfect in the form department, but she seemed genuinely happy to be competing tonight, and has a great air of confidence. I just don’t worry about her falling.

Kyla needs to be very worried. She’s just way past her peak, unfortunately.

    • JK Says:

Hmm… maybe now that Simone’s gone pro, there’s no need to make Gabby happen again? One can only hope. 🙂

  20. Gymnast41 Says:

The absolute worst nationals ever. Had to stop watching after kyla and aly fell. I’ll watch day 2 (and hopefully everyone pulls it together)

    • ilanchik20 Says:

I know, day 1 was a little scary! It looked a little like 2011 all over again. I’ll be at day 2. I’m hoping it’s not a repeat of 2011 day 2. Crossing my fingers!

  21. JAS4 Says:

I was also surprised that Gabby’s DTY scored higher than Kyla’s because Kyla has some leg separation at the beginning then clean the rest of the way but Gabby had a slightly wonky block and a big hop on the landing so I was expecting Kyla’s VT to be a couple of tenths higher. Simone’s Amanar was fabulous! I wonder if Kyla’s ankle(s) is still bothering her because on her bars dismount it seemed like she was just off balance and fell back. If it’s not her ankles then I wonder if Kyla would do better with a full in dismount or something like that where she would let go of the bar in the same direction as she did with her double layout because she seemed to get pretty good height that way. It will be interesting to see how things go Saturday!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Interesting to see if she takes out double front

      • JAS4 Says:

Is a full in worth the same as a double front? If so, it just seems like it would be easier for Kyla with the amount of height she gets releasing from the bar in that direction. If she is still having trouble with the double front in practice between now and Saturday maybe she can do a double tuck off bars for Saturday (I imagine she could do that in her sleep) and then add the full twist between now and worlds to help her d score. I also hope they figure out a way to use the code to help her d score on floor. I would love to see her upgrade her passes to something like Double Arabian, full-in tucked, full-in piked, and a double tuck/Pike but that doesn’t look like it will happen. I wonder if Kyla is capable of a double front on floor?

      • gymbot Says:

Yes, the full-in and double front are both D dismounts. I think the double front will work out for her in the end. She probably wasn’t training landings with her ankle injury and it previously looked great.

  22. Diana (@dianajc99) Says:

not only does key have the matching ’91 KZ leo, but she has the same wrist wrapped as KZ did.

  23. Lithi Says:

I didn’t watch the Universal broadcast, but supposedly Al Trautwig introduced Nastia as Elfie Schlegel. *giggles*

    • Short1 Says:

He did and it was so hilarious! There were a few seconds of awkward silence with Tim and Nastia looking all confused (and Nastia looking more then a little offended) before Al finally realized his mistake and corrected it.

  24. mim Says:

Brenna’s bars were fun to watch!

  25. Gymbot Says:

Ross didn’t go for everything in her bars. She was planning to compete chow to bahardwaj, Kip toe full to Maloney to pak to van leeuwen, Kip toe half to jaeger, kip double front dismount.

She only competed toe full Maloney bahardwaj, Kip vlw, toe half jaeger, double front. Without the pak and the chow, she counts the toe half and kip to her score. She also lost .3 in connections without connecting the pak to both a Maloney and the vlw

    • Gymbot Says:

I just rewatched. She compete a toe on so this is the run down. She traded two c elements for two d elements, the chow and the pak, for .2 off her base.

Without the extra transition in combination, that is .3 in unattempted connections. She didn’t count a kip

    • Gymbot Says:

Sorry for serial posting today. Just realized Ross didn’t hit her watered down routine. My gut sank. What a bummer

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I can’t imagine changing the routine a million times before a competition could be good for anyone’s mental stability. She Needs to find a routine and stick to it.

      • JK Says:

Kyla’s has had 3 different bars routines this year, from Jesolo, Classics and now Nationals. Yeah, I can see how that may have an effect on her mentally. Hope she can get it together and hit tomorrow.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Not only that but between classics and nationals and quit possibly at Nationals they changed it up because she was missing it in practice . That can’t be easy. Pi,k one and stick to it and work out the kinks. This routine had to be working for her at one point or she never would have brought it to Classics.

      • JK Says:

I just hope she (and her coaches) isn’t discouraged from competing new skills/combos. I don’t know what her chances are of making the Worlds team this year (I will be so sad if she doesn’t make it). But she still has a year until Rio. Hopefully she can work out the kinks like you said, get more confident, and get her inbars back so she can get that bars/beam specialist spot next year. I so want her on that team next year.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Your comments here are why I hate bars these days. Way to make things complicated gymnastics. Not personal to you just the skills that get credit these days

  26. Gymbot Says:

Douglas on beam: her skill set without connections is 6.1. Her dismount series builds an automatic .1 bonus so her real base is 6.2. Her total sv should be 6.5 with her three leap connections, so they took off for the two slow ones.

Do you think the ring position is still lacking? In my eyes that is the only place they could downgrade. Her head release and split position are excellent , maybe it’s hard to tell from the judges position versus a horizontal view via the cameras. 6.2 is probably the lowest she would get internationally as we’ll

  27. Dee Says:

Oh man, sounds like a shit show last night. I forgot to watch. Now I really can’t forget to watch day 2. I just can’t stand reading about Kyla though, I feel like she’s putting herself in a bad spot.

    • Case Says:

Kyla’s phone just rang. It’s Stanford telling her she can still start classes on Aug 24.

      • Tortuga Says:

If day 2 is bad and she doesn’t make the world team I would probably bow out. I REALLY don’t want this to happen but it’s a possibility.

      • ilanchik20 Says:

At this point it’s more than just a possibility. Marta knows it, Ross and her coaches should know it too.

I’m rooting for her but ugh.

If Marta is taking her for bars, it’s a risk, Kyla hasn’t hit the last 2 bar routines. Her beam is weak. She was always known for being consistent but even that is alluding her. She hadn’t had one meet this year where she hit all or most of her routines (her only hit meet last year was world’s too so who knows) . I’m not sure what is happening to Kyla and I don’t want to say it but she is starting to look a lot like Bross did last squad. I’m glad Kyla has at least UCLA to fall on.

I’ll keep rooting for her but plz get it together.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Except she signed with UCLA lol

      • Case Says:

Whoops! My bad. Well, then it’s Jordyn calling from UCLA offering her the couch this semester.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I writing a dear Kyla letter blog that I haven’t decided if I want to post before tomorrow or after because the I said so factor or the you’re an idiot GTT factor from you guys that post here coIld go either way bit we will see. You will understand once I post it 🙂

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Post it! We’re all nice here. I think.

      • Tortuga Says:

I think for the most part we all really like Kyla and can see this going either way right now. We’re realistic in our expectations.

      • H Says:

we are very nice GTT;-) And I hope Kyla (and Aly) will hit tomorrow.

    • G Says:

Weren’t there a lot of falls on night one in 2006? And Natasha Kelly was like the only one who hit 4 for 4? Good old times

About Kyla though, girl is going to give me an ulcer on Saturday. She can’t mess up

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nastia fell like 4 times I believe between 2 days and Still won. It was so bogus

      • JK Says:

2011 Nationals wasn’t great either if I’m remembering correctly. I think that was the year where everyone was falling all over the place. Maybe the year before the Olympics gets everyone wired or something?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

i think kyla has gotten even taller. thats why she had to change the bar dismount

  28. Jazzy Says:

The commentators are so horrible I turned off the sound even for floor yesterday.

The guy Evan is friends with the GGMB/Gymscoop people and now that Chalky butt bitch is threatening to ban people who don’t like his commentating. Abomb is typing in capitals which is his way of warning people that the gymnasts he stalks and likes are off topic.

Such an amusing bunch of minions running that “message board”

    • gymtruthteller Says:

No one thinks they have actually changed do they? The guy sucks. They can ban the entire board and it doesn’t change it.

      • Jazzy Says:

I didn’t expect any change at all. I recently found out that Chalky who calls Skinner skinhead is friends with her on facebook and liking her pictures so you can add hypocrite to their list of crimes.

  29. ilanchik20 Says:

Ugh. And the injuries begin. Apparently Amelia tore her meniscus during her floor routine yesterday.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Another one bites the dust. I also read somewhere Dalton was out for the men.

      • TrishaG Says:

Yeah, he has a small tear in his shoulder labrum which is aggravating a cyst already there. It’s healing but he’s had very limited training time because of it and isn’t ready to compete yet. He said he’d be able to compete at Worlds if he’s selected, and will have surgery afterwards. It’s a short recovery time, so it shouldn’t interfere with his preparation for Rio.

    • Tortuga Says:

Oh no! I guess she had to be the sacrificial lamb. Please keep everyone bubble wrapped.

  30. Exgymgurl Says:

your favorites joho and lleva are doing well. Bozo is not competing and i know that his injury disappoints you
