Komova Walk through

Rehearsal for the 2014 Mexico open.

She gets huge applause for walking through her routine and while I usually do not watch floor routines that start with double pikes I walked the Mustafina walk with eyes wide open. Komova did her best Mustafina impression here.

The beam routine was a lot more impressive if you can get past the 25 seconds when she finally gets on the beam.

she actually gets on the beam? Wow, brenna dowell cant even do that at this event

  2. JAS4 Says:

I haven’t watched the video yet but please tell me it’s not like Nastia’s beam exhibition things lol

    • gymtruthteller Says:

The beginning is just like Nastia’s. Then she gets on and does some things. I forget what but real stuff

    • gymbot Says:

Some D and C elements on beam – acro looking more solid than her dance skills, per usual

    • Katie Says:

I can not believe how Nastia even pulled that crap. Her name was used as a major selling point for ticket sales and all she did on beam was strike a bunch of poses while circling it, doing a back handspring next to it, and then finally getting on the beam and just walking back and forth on it while posing to some creepy song about dads. I get that she wasn’t going do an Olympic-esque routine, but she could have thrown a few basic acrobatic skills. That’s what the audience really wants to see, after all.

GTT, I don’t mean to bring politics up, but I hope you’re supporting Baker in the Gubernatorial race in your state. I absolutely loathe Martha Coakley and hope she loses yet again.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

You never have to worry about me voting for Martha Coackly. I remember her when she was a District Attorney, Wanna know how many Distract attorney’s I can name? 1 Martha Coackly.

The competition between her and Charlie Baker is close but I am not that big a fan of his either. I do not like voting for anyone that believes in giving illegal aliens anything and Coackly said she would let illegals vote so if it comes down to it I’ll take Baker over her.

  4. Uglyfatkid Says:

She totally did some big skills. Nastia never did anything big during exhibitions, unless you count the front arial as big. Vika did a side somi, front arial, BHS LOSO combo, full turn with leg held at horizontal, and another full turn with leg held in attitude. That’s all I can remember off the top of my head, but that’s loads more then we ever saw from Nastia at things like this. Nastia usually just did some stripper-ella routine adapted from the movie showgirls.

I will agree and say the first part was a load of crap though, but once she actually got on the beam she did some pretty tough stuff. If this is a sign of the shape she’s in I am very happy. I want her healthy for worlds and the Olympics. She still has a way to go, but I’m ecstatic that the Russian program people haven’t damaged her beyond repair yet.

I just want to see her compete again but with a new attitude and more confidence. I wish she develops some of mustys competitiveness.

  6. gymbot Says:

She’s super super tall now. It’s great she still has good basics with her new height

  7. Exgymgurl Says:

No Amanar for Komova anymore. shes a gym giant. Like gabby

  8. Catherine Says:

Why does her switch leap suck now? So weird. Anyway, yeah it’d be nice if she could come back at a high level but I certainly wouldn’t be waiting for it or crying if it fails to happen, again.

Any scoop on what happened at camp? Did the newbies outshine the old guard?

    • byrdisthewyrd Says:

I want to know too! Nia Dennis mentioned on her ask.fm that Aly looked awesome and that Marta was impressed with her but it’s not like Nia is going to say anything negative about Aly anyway.

  10. Lol Says:

I want Komova healthy and ready too. It is a shame she has missed so much time with injuries.

    • mim Says:

I actually think it’s a good thing she’s had time off. I find it so difficult to cheer her on because she always had such little fight in her. She wanted to win but the first sign of a wobble or whatever she gave up. Fine for gymnasts you are ambivalent about but frustrating when the gymnast is talented. I hope she comes back hungry to win and with a bit more of a mature Musty-esque attitude.

  11. SuperFran Says:

I know what you mean. I’m a huge Komova fan. She’s just so beautiful to watch. Like when she’s getting into position for floor exercise. It’s like, dang. But, I never understood why she did that whole “I missed an element, so I’m going to wander around for a bit.”

SIlly question, what’s up with the full out movie? I only heard about it this week and it seems like lots of US gymnasts are in it?

  12. Lol Says:

I do not believe gabby won anything. Marta is trying to motivate her. We all know what a tie means in Marta world. Remember Carly tying Courtney at nationals. Remember alter and Krispy and nbc

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah I don’t believe Gabby won anything of her own accord either. She can’t be in full shape yet. She doesn’t need a confidence boost though she’s way over confident as it is…

      • Gymbee Says:

Who else thinks that Marta is hinting (pretending) she’ll have max 2 spots for a 2012 Olympian, and she will have Gabby and Aly (and Kyla and McKayla) fight to the finish line for them (with plenty of mind-games, such as declaring Gabby the winner of the first camp) before she’ll snub all 4 like she did ASac at the trials/2016 selection camp?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I think that is exactly what she will do. Play the game. They did it in 2000 too

      • mim Says:

Apparently it’s not based on full routines, it’s just certain skills and a dismount.

  13. Lithi Says:

Height didn’t stop Komova’s mom from being a force in the USSR during the 80s, I wonder if Mama Vera is giving her daughter pointers on how to adjust to it. I know, I know, big skills, she needs more confidence. Just a shame to see such a talent crash.
