Skinner is on the team. I want to cry. There is bad form, and then there is Skinner’s gymnastics. At least Aly acknowledged her flaws and worked to fix what she could. I can usually expect good execution from US gymnasts, but Skinner is well….

    • gymtruthteller Says:

With all the injuries they really had no choice. Don’t worry judges should kill this team. Oh wait when did judges ever do their jobs?

    • Dee Says:

Lauren we can cry together. I can’t wait to see what the judges do with skinner.

I wish Hundley was on the team, honestly. Also if I was Dowell right now I wouldn’t know WTF to do with myself. I can’t really figure out why she keeps getting crapped on.

  2. Melanie Says:

Why is Desch a part of the team and not Hundley?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I am sure she will be the alternate but I have no clue why she was named. She is useless

    • TrishaG Says:

Desch did better at Pan Ams than Hundley. Hundley must not have improved enough at camp to earn the spot.

    • gymbot Says:

Based on their scores at home, I would take Hundley. Based on Pan Ams, I would take Desch. I’m sure she’s the alternate, but she is healthy and has four pieces, including a DTY. I think Hundley injured herself because she competed FTYs at nationals and maybe a yurchenko 3/2 or FTY at Pan Ams.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Hundley has never scored well outside the US and she tanked Pan Ams. I love her floor especially in person but unless she had the Ashton super bar set and hit it she never had a chance

      • gymbot Says:

Her dance on her floor was especially good – is she the one who came from a dance studio that her mother owned, or something similar? If she is, you can tell.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

When she was younger she really sold the routine. I didn’t like her routine this year but yes, mom owns a dance studio and when she was younger she competed in dance.

      • gymbot Says:

It shows, I think it was good this year too

  3. Laura Says:

Interesting, it’s odd that Breanna is named the non-traveling alternate. I would have thought if she had shown enough readiness to be considered “fit to compete” she’d end up as the traveling alternate at the very least. For Marta to name her at all means that she must have more than just bars back and ready to go..but guess she was outperformed at camp by Madison? I have to imagine that Desch is going to be the alternate, but I guess that will depend on injuries.

    • gymbot Says:

I feel bad for Brenna Dowell – to delay school for nothing in the end. I think she also is looking towards Rio but she has to know that the 2016 team will be even harder to make.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Someonesaid she is going to OU in January so I think she is done.

      • gymbot Says:

She is attending OU, but she and Al Fong have said they are aiming for Rio a few times now, she could take another season off (Spring Term 2016, if not the year)

      • gia20 Says:

Brenna should just go to college already. Every single time she’s left off the team, more heartache for her. Come on, she has to know it’s just not gonna happen for her. Next year on top of the current senior there will be some really good juniors moving up. I dont understand Desch over her this time around since Maddie is pretty much useless but seems to me this was Brenna’s last chance to make a big team.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Its like Shawn in 2011 hitting everything at camp and being called the non travelling alt.me brenna hit 6/6 at camp. ,this is ridiculous politics

      • gymbot Says:

Exgymgurl, do you have more camp info? Is 6/6 3 events, 2 times?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

No night one she did four night two all the girls only did two events

  4. JAS4 Says:

I don’t get Desch over Dowell but maybe she had a better camp? I figured Desch or Hundley would be the non traveling alternate depending on how they did at camp.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Amelia hit 6 for 6 at camp and was still left off.

    • byrdisthewyrd Says:

I read that Brenna did AA and really smashed it too so it doesn’t make sense to me to choose Desch instead. Time for Brenna to move on. Marta is making sure there is nothing left for her in elite.

      • Melanie Says:

Wow, this team feels more ridiculous by the second. Based on her Classics/Nationals performance, I wouldn’t have put Brenna on the team, but if she competed AA and did well at camp, she should DEFINITELY be on this team. Her vault was worth it alone.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

This is just more proof camp doesn’t matter. Its what Marta wants

  5. Laura Says:

So…what do you guys think about?

    Vault: Ross, Skinner, Biles
    Bars: Kocian, Ross, Locklear
    Beam: Biles, Baumann, Ross
    Floor: Ross, Skinner, Biles

with Kocian, Biles, and Ross doing all-around?

    • gymbot Says:

I was just wondering about that – is Kocian healthy enough to do AA now? If so, that makes the team and qualifying round very clear.

      • Laura Says:

It’s all rumor mill, but on another blog, someone reported that Kocian did all four events. If not, who is the 4th vaulter?

      • gymbot Says:

Baumann or Desch. I’m concerned Baumann cannot vault on her injured elbow and that Kocian cannot land her ankle – which means Desch makes the team over Locklear, Kocian or Baumann – which is pretty depressing.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Kocian cant compete AA in prelims. She hasn’t competed AA like ever without hurting herself. This team doesnt make sense unless WOGA bribed someone and USAG really hates Brenna.brenna is the fourth vault, and the fourth bar routine and. Maddie desch really?

    • gymtruthteller Says:

That would be my guess but it will depend on prelims because Marta usually competes the top 3.

It will be interesting to see if Kyla gets scored as well on floor this year vs last

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Marta is not concerned about four. The team is so lean this year. Kyla will be up on vault in 3 up 3 count. Because she out scores desch all day long. If she sticks maybe she outscores skinner.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Oh and skinner will compete Beam in prelims. Baumann will compete floor in prelims, but because we add Biles to bars in qualifying, baumann will not compete aa in quals.
Baumann will compete vault in prelims. Id say 4-1 odds Marta breaks at least one of the WOGA chicks at the death camp that starts tomorrow.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

There is a new camp tomorrow? What the hell was the last 4 days.lol

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Prequel camp so Marta could hang with kim zmeskal. Who BTW still has not had anyone besides Chelsea Davis named to a world team.

  6. gymbot Says:

Does anyone know if Kocian can vault and do floor or was her Classic’s injury too much? Also regarding Baumann’s elbow – is it better – can she vault? If neither of these girls can vault because of injuries, I suppose they would have to use Desch to be the 4th vaulter and floor worker in qualification, at the minimum.

    • Dee Says:

I was surprised to see Baumann listed. So I’m guessing the injury healed?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Or she was never really injured and they took her out to avoid having to actually earn her spot aka the same way Marta took Hatch out of Nationals so she would make trials and have an excuse to put her one vault on the Olympic team which in the end cost the US team gold?

    • Laura Says:

I hope baumann or kocian can vault, putting desch on the team over them would be awful for those girls

  7. Dee Says:

I’ve also been wondering this…what happened to Nichols?

  8. Exgymgurl Says:

I think they take silver as a team, and China takes gold, Russia bronze. Romania in fourth

    • Exgymgurl Says:

I think this is a death sentence for most of these girls seriously next year. Bailey nia a healthy Aly gabby McKayla. Rachel and Norah too. It will be all skinner? Desch? kocian? Baumann? Locklear? only two of those four that make an event final are lock learn barsand skinner tv.

      • Laura Says:

I agree, if all of the up and comers are healthy there will be a lot of competition, but this team wasn’t what we thought as of January, so you never know.

  9. mim Says:

My thoughts (which echoes much of what has been already said):
    -Desch will headcase at worlds.
-Maggie should be on this team and should not have been sent to Pan Ams. A KZB approach to Pan Ams wouldn’t have gone astray.
-Brenna, go to college already and be happy.
-Skinner was always going to be on this team.
-Excited to see how Locklear goes but somehow I think she’ll get lost in the crowd next year.

    • Dee Says:

Agreed. I am interested to see how Locklear fairs against the big countries but I’m not sure if she has staying power for the rest of the quad.

I wanted Maggie on this team. I feel like there is some BS surrounding what happened to her.

I also agree that skinner was always gonna be on this team but it’s hard to deal with anyway.

  10. tulip Says:

This is embarrassing. I’ve never understood Marta but this is bad. Is it possible that they get bronze or not even make podium? Simone and Kyle will rock, of course but who else is really going to contribute? Brenna just keeps getting screwed. Why the dislike? Is it her or Al? How much of a role does Valery have in choosing the team? As I’ve said before, she should have let Aly put a beam and floor together.
Is there any chance that Marta is ticked off at USA Gymnastics and chose some gymnasts on purpose who will tank it to make a point? That makes more sense to me than some of these choices. Hundley off with hit routines? Baumann on with her injury?
Regardless, Simone takes gold AA, vault, floor. Kyla sees podium. Anyone else?

Brenna- if you read this blog, I say this because you seem like a good person: go to college. Call Bridget Sloan and talk to her. Bridget has said that she regrets delaying as long as she did because she loves it so much. Go be appreciated!

  11. sainabou nyang Says:

The team is just….. Again I say I dont care who wins TF-I’m more interested in AA and EF,but I am praying no one falls or makes a stupid mistake that costs the team a medal.

Brenna you did the best you could, but it is time to get ready for Oklahoma.

Amelia kudos to her for hitting at camp. Where she goes from here is a mystery because her and Nica Hults will easily be pushed to the background next year.

Does anyone know if there will be a live feed for Worlds? I dont want to wait to watch the NBC broadcast.

  12. TrishaG Says:

I’m bummed that Brenna isn’t on the team, especially if she did well at AA at camp. Seems like it would have made much more sense to name her as the traveling alternate and see if she improves further as she trains more on the healed ankle, If she does and earns the 6th spot in podium training, we’d have a much stronger team.

The WOGA girls are fragile so it’s possible that one or both may break before the team leaves for China. I don’t wish injury on anyone, but Marta likes to train AA so there are backup options galore. Kocian especially may not be able to hold up until they leave. (Btw, anyone know when the team leaves?) Brenna may still get her shot and I hope that she does get the opportunity.

Even if she doesn’t get the chance now, it could be worthwhile to stick around for 2015. As this year has proven, injuries can wreck havoc with depth. While on paper there are lots of athletes that will be back next year with similar or higher AA scores and event strengths, who knows who will be available by selection time for Worlds? Brenna would have been on this team if she hadn’t gotten injured in July and had her training impacted right at the key time for Nationals and Worlds selection.

Most importantly, only Brenna knows how important it is to her to continue trying to get to Worlds and/or Rio even if it doesn’t work out. Regret really sucks; sometimes it’s worth it to know you did everything possible and fell short of your goal rather than look back and wonder if you could have succeeded if you’d just hung in a little longer. Bridget Sloan already had an Olympic silver medal and several WC medals, including AA gold, before she failed to make the 2012 squad. Her regret at delaying college is easier to understand because she’d already accomplished a lot. Brenna hasn’t had those opportunities or achievements, so it’s probably harder to walk away from elite at this point than it would have been for Bridget (if she’d gone to college after 2010 Worlds). I hope that Brenna defers for 2015, hopefully gets a chance to go to Worlds, and then decides if she wants to try for Rio or move on to NCAA. But whatever she decides, I hope she is satisfied with her decision and makes the right choice for her.

  13. Case Says:

Is Brenna forever going to pay the price for Al Fong’s Marta bashing? Because logically it makes no sense why she’s not on the team. She really should go to Oklahoma where she can be a star and receive the accolades she deserves.

As for Nichols, that whole situation irks me and gives me a bad attitude. Like Tori Moors-ish type bad attitude.

I really hope that Aly, Gabby and McKayla make legit comebacks and the up and coming juniors can also breathe some life into this lackluster squad. Biles will win everything but after that it gets a little thin.

  14. sanitynmotion Says:

    So did Meela get screwed?!

  15. JAS4 Says:

I think Amelia would have been a traveling alternate/non traveling alternate at best. Even though I really like Amelia I don’t think she had enough difficulty compared to others.

  16. H Says:

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She looked like she was more into that then last years prelims.lol She kind of quit after the bobble and her form still sucks but Aliya is never one to act like she cares when it does not matter.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah Aliya will be like eff this during practice rounds but has the tendency to go all out/beast mode when the competition is on.
