Worst Stanley Cup Final EVER, More Caquatto drama and….

I don’t root for New York unless it is under very special circumstances ( like they are playing the Montreal Canadians) At least that is what I thought until this reminded me we are 2 games away from having the WORST STANLEY CUP FINALS EVER.

Imagine the bandwagon celebrities of NY like Spike Lee jumping on whatever team from NY just happens to make the finals vs the very same Bandwagon fans of Los Angelos California AKA as Hollywood. Poor Jack Nicholson is going to be so confused but I can easily see him sitting in LA in his Yankee hat rooting for which ever team wins.

Macko Caquatto is apparently a very rude girl who likes to wake up her cranky neighbors in the middle of the night. The kid seems apologetic and it wasn’t a real gun but drama sure seems to follow the Caquatto’s around and why the hell is Marissa King acting like she won a National title again?

I wonder if Lauren is planning on trying to stay around for Rio? It seems like she has the difficulty back on beam and floor.

    • mim Says:

She’s a lock for Rio except for injury or if she decides she doesn’t want it. I bet we’ll see her there.

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

I’m in So Cal and it was madness when the Ducks were playing the Kings. I don’t follow hockey but I was like “kill me now already.” At least half the madness has now moved on to the East Coast.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

LA vs NY is going to be throw up enducing . You won’t be able to put the TV on without something on NY vs LA. I will be boycotting ESPN

  3. Jenn Smith Says:

These are the things that stood out to me: A) I can’t (shocked) believe that UF tying OU was mentioned, instead, “like, omg, we were so excited WE WON” and B) if you watch the video when they said who had won, Marissa King was the ONLY Gator actually excited that, even though it was a tie, it was better than 2nd.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Marissa acted like she won. She even pushed a girl from the other teams coaching staff out of the way and grabbed the trophy to pose for a picture. It was weird.

      • tulip Says:

I agree! I saw that and said who the f is this entitled bitch? Then realized it as she was fixing her hair for pix. She shoved those girls away Bad form Marissa.

And I’m surprised that college students are yelling at each other to be quiet. I went to a huge state school too (in the big ten) and people were too busy having fun to call out anyone. My sophomore year i lived in a college apt complex that had bands in the courtyard Thursday – Saturday. Right by your door. Of it got too loud you went to study elsewhere like one of the libraries or with a friend who lived elsewhere. It’s just part of college. You didn’t pull a gun. Or complain.

      • Karlie Says:

Yeah, I’m sorry but you don’t pull a gun on people just because they’re being rude and/or loud. Fake or not, it certainly looked like a real gun. Saying the situation “got out of hand” isn’t exactly apologetic. He PULLED A GUN on two college kids who were being loud and it looked real enough that they were scared. To me that indicates a deeper problem.

I didn’t even go to a large state school, but a rather small one. Sometimes people are loud at night…it happens and you suck it up, even if it wrecks your night. I’m sorry but there’s NO EXCUSE for his behavior, none.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

She gets a ring the same as the athletes on the team do. And really 11pm? Thats late? For college students? Since when?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Haha, I’d be coming home from PRACTICE at 11 p.m. Go club sports.

      • Jenn Smith Says:

That is funny. I missed all the trophy debaucle.

      • Cee Says:

11 is not even that late! And the dude is pointing a GUN? Jesus. Angry, psychotic POS, complete overreaction and was likely looking for a fight for whatever reason.

Just for fun I hope y’all can see this

  5. mim Says:

Well… I don’t have high hopes for the future of Australian gymnastics if Peggy just continues to rely on veterans rather than develop and nurture new talent. It backfired in 2012, I just don’t know what she’s thinking. Much disbelief amongst Aussie fans when she left the new national champ off the team (Georgia Godwin).. and any excuse for preserving her for worlds is BS, the Commonwealth Games are perfect for experience for worlds. Ugh.

    • Catherine Says:

Where the eff are Leydin and Munteanu? Unless they’re injured they should be around and if they’re inconsistent, they need experience.

      • gymbot Says:

The Australian program’s funding is medal dependent, they are hoping to maximize medal chances (UB Miller, BB Mitchell & Monckton, FX Mitchell & Miller) at the Commonwealth games.

      • mim Says:

I know this gymbot.. I suspected this team selection was political given the medal requirement for funding after the abysmal federal budget. I know under Winning Edge GA needs 10 medals (assuming both in WAG and MAG) but Australia isn’t going to medal at Worlds or Rio (which surely will be more important that the CWG for continued government funding after 2016) if they aren’t going to send the younger seniors to meets like CWG beforehand for the experience and they can’t rely on veterans again in Rio, and they can’t rely on the juniors all of a sudden being internationally competitive and consistent under pressure when something has obviously happened with the current crop of seniors who, let’s face it, haven’t even been on par with the second-tier gymnastics countries (and nowhere near the caliber of the big 4 gym countries).

Girls like Godwin, Munteanu and Leydin are girls who have potential and have shown talent and lots of growth in the past year, and they need the experience of competing at something like the Commonwealth Games to be ready for Worlds and the Olympics over the next couple of years, where, again for funding, we need to medal (only 1 or 2, but I’m dubious even for that).

I understand perhaps that Peggy is making an unpopular decision for the perceived greater good to meet the medal requirement for CWG. However, something has gone wrong on the current funding model regardless. It’s not Peggy’s fault that GymAus has to all of a sudden be medalling left, right and centre to keep funding. But by picking specialists and leaving the new AAers (Godwin, Leydin, Munteanu) at home, she may only be delaying the inevitable anyway when we don’t medal at worlds or Rio. I probably would have left Liv Viv off the team and risked a new senior to give them experience. Australia is in a really crap rock/hard place type situation. I hope there’s a plan for those girls.

Wow okay essay. Sorry about that. Rant over.

      • gymbot Says:

I think you’re right – I read somewhere they are targeting one medal at the Olympic games. I agree the younger gymnasts need experience, but that is why they took the girls to some meets in the US and Jeselo before Pac Rims. Sure, none of those meets were CWG, but the program did not need medals from those events.

I still think it’s better to take Brown to Glasgow. I believe she has put up the best AA totals this year for an Australian, breaking 55 a few times. I am not saying she’ll make the podium, but the other all-arounders seem to score about point lower than her. Maybe just maybe she can squeeze out a podium finish for Australia?

Hopefully the girls that have to stay behind build their difficulty or master their current work. Neither the D or E scores were competitive at the championships.

  6. byrdisthewyrd Says:

Here’s Kyla Ross’ new May camp training video. If you’ve seen her perform at all in the last three years, there is really no need to watch it but here’s the link regardless. I love Kyla. I even understand the arguments of not rushing her after an injury, not upgrading until next year whatever, but can’t the girl at least change up her dance moves? I mean, surely that will not cause her pain and injury. She has literally been doing the same “dance” on beam since she was a junior. I get that maybe she has reached her maximum difficulty but even just shaking up some new dance moves would make things a bit more interesting. Change something. Anything! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfOahHEVrek

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Ahhhh I felt the same way! Like why bother posting that when it’s the same crap! She’s not even TRAINING upgrades, which tells me she’s not going to this year.

I really think it’s time that I start to get comfy with the idea of her retiring from elite next year and going off to college, because it seems like she’s at that “grey area” where she’s doing just enough to stay relevant on the national scene but not to the point where she wants to get first place in anything.

This is all pointing to she’s holding herself off for college. She’s gonna “pull a Price.” I’m telling myself this so I don’t get all sad next year hoping she finally shows/achieves her full potential.

That’s the essence of what kills me about this sport. Very few times do you see a gymnast really achieve their full potential and show it. They’re always held back by either injury or timing, or they won a big competition (Olympics) and then they make the decision to retire because why bother continuing in such a grueling sport. Ugh.

I felt that way (not achieving full potential) about Jordyn, McKayla, Kyla, and even Gabby from the 2012 squad. I feel like Aly has done it all (what she’s capable of) and yet she’s coming back, but hey good for her.

I feel that way about Komova too of course. And Musty. I even felt that way about ASac, big time.

      • Gymbee Says:

I agree sanity. I feel like I’ve given up on Kyla. Just so I won’t get disappointed next year. It doesn’t seem to me like she’s that thirsty anymore.

      • JAS4 Says:

Is it just me or did Kyla look like she had grown a little taller in that video?

    • uglyfatkid Says:

Agreed Sanity. This is going to sound really harsh, but I hope she gets her ass kicked at worlds this year. That’s what she needs. She needs to finish off podium and without any falls. That will prove to her and her coaches that it isn’t enough anymore…upgrades are needed to stay relevant.

However, I think GTT is right when she said it during her recap of euros…there isn’t much competition right now. I think Kyla and her coaches are banking on that, and hoping for the best at worlds. It may be a smart move to keep her from injury, but is aggravating the hell out of me. =]

    • Flippateer Says:

I am hoping that Kyla plans to stay in the game for 2016, and if that’s the goal, I can understand pacing and trying to save her body through 2014 given the sparse field, with the goal of upgrading in 2015 and being at full strength/difficulty in 2016. Still, I agree with you guys that I won’t be surprised at all if Kyla pulls an Ebee – just disappointed.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

In a way, I don’t understand the pacing. I would think at least “some” of the upgrades would be introduced by now, so that Kyla gets used to doing them in competition and consistently. Especially the so-called “upgrades” she had before that she just took out. In fact, if anything Kyla has watered down most, if not all, routines since London. It’s like she’s regressed.

Remember Jordyn Weiber and Aly both slowly introduced their upgrades – at least over two seasons – prior to London. They wanted them comfortable with their routines well in advance. If Kyla waits until 2015/16 to introduce her upgrades it could be too late and it wouldn’t give her enough time to practice consistency during competition I would think.

Part of me thinks the upgrades are there for the sake of “if” she decides to go for Rio, but it’s looking to be a big if. Is she still even practicing/working the upgrades? Or are they forever on the backburner? They didn’t show anything in her camp video but I wonder if she did them or practiced them…does anyone know?

      • uglyfatkid Says:

Couldn’t agree more. I just keep going back to the pacing thing because that is the only thing that makes any sense (other than she is leaving for college soon). Either way, I’m frustrated because I really like her.

The part that doesn’t add up is the fact that there is NOTHING new. Someone above mentioned the dance elements on beam as an example of something small that she could be trying. There are PLENTY of things she can be upgrading or changing…but we aren’t seeing anything. WHY? If this is just pacing, why not throw in a small easy skill, dance element, or new combo/ connection in somewhere? I don’t expect a whole new set from her, but I do expect SOMETHING at this point.

Random questions that flood my brain:
        1) Do you think Marta has anything to do with this?
        2) Is Kyla such a perfectionist that she can’t let new skills be seen unless they are near perfect?
        3) Did the growth spurt do her in?
        4) Do you think #NastiaHasHerpes got her herpes before or after her stint at college? #NastiasHigherEducationHerpes

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I think what happened pretty much is that Kyla made her Olympic team, and got her gold medal. That’s more than she could ever have hoped for. If she had been 17/18 when it happened she may have done what Jordyn did and attempted a comeback initially but then decided it would be best at the end of the day to go to college right away.

I have this feeling if Kyla had not made that London team we’d be seeing those upgrades by now. She would have had no choice but to push herself. I think it’s mostly a Kyla move as to why she’s not upgrading. She’s not super fired up for Rio because she already has London. And she knows odds are against her.

Yes, she had a growth spurt but it doesn’t seem to stop her from doing her skills. She no longer has the amanar but her bars and beam still look plenty capable, and if she was pulling a double layout on floor not that long ago – I think it’s her who is making the conscious decision not to put in the upgrades. Her and her coaches, who are probably well aware of her plan.

At the end of the day, Marta does have the say but Marta is not telling Kyla to upgrade, nor is she telling Kyla to downgrade. She has Kyla right where she needs/wants her right now, and she’s probably planning on Kyla making an exit from elite prior to Rio.

So Kyla was at that “odd” age of 16 at her Olympics, too young to decide on college right after but still young enough to try and make some World teams and get that experience in before heading off to college. I am guessing that’s what she’s doing. She loves the sport so why not stick around, especially given the competitive field, where she can still have a chance at getting a medal even with watered down routines. If you think about it, her technique and methodology is perfect for the college level. It just sucks for fans like us who want to see her achieve her full potential as an elite.

      • mim Says:

I’d love to see Kyla at another Olympics but I agree that she’ll pull an Ebee and head off to college soon. I would have thought she had more drive to go to Rio though given she didn’t get a chance to shine too much in the way the others did.

Maybe the girls saw what happened to Brenna at Worlds and this year for Pac Rims/Jesolo and are being more cautious/realistic about their gymnastics careers and preserving themselves mentally more than before. I think Ebee was smart to get out of elite even if she was hitting her stride physically.

    • Case Says:

Like many of you, I”m also over Kyla. Same shit different year. I want to root for her so badly because she seems like such a great kid but her gymnastics are Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to me.

    • biyatch Says:

So yeah, Kyla’s boring, her routines have the level of difficulty as gymnasts from countries that aren’t medal contenders and we are all constantly waiting for her to upgrade….

I feel like it might be at the point where Kyla physically can’t upgrade her routines. Girl went from like 5’1″ to 5’6″-5’7″ in 2 years. That totally messes with center of gravity and makes most skills so much harder. And Kyla doesn’t have the Khorkina, super lithe type frame, she’s still has to carry all the insane amount of muscle it takes to survive physical ability testing in the US system. We saw when she tried upgrading, she ended up on her ass (adding a whip on floor.)

We like to harp that she WONT upgrade, Im just saying maybe its because she CANT.

  7. JAS4 Says:

    Amelia at camp

Isn’t she a senior now? I would love to see her in the mix for worlds.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Just me or does Amelia’s form look much improved? Maybe I’m too used to seeing the likes of Skinner.😉

      • JAS4 Says:

I thought it looked improved as well. Beam still needs some work like on leaps and all but overall I thought her form looked better.

    • flippateer Says:

Amelia sounded really sweet in the latest BTR. I’m now rooting for her as a person even if her gymnastics is not quite there yet. The weird thing was that it felt like her coach didn’t fully believe in her in the BTR interview. MLT was quoted saying that Amelia had essentially reached deep to exceed her God-given potential and repeatedly went back to how Amelia didn’t currently have the “international look” that she needed. Watching her camp footage, I can definitely see what MLT is saying, but I’d love to see her clean up her form and make a World team even if 2016 isn’t on the table. She seems like a hardworking kid who loves the sport even if she’s never been an “it” girl, and I’d love to see good things happen for her.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Eh – Biles doesn’t have the “international look” either yet that didn’t stop her from being a World champ…in fact I’d argue most of the Americans lack that international look they talk about.

      • flippateer Says:

Fair point about Biles, which is one of the things I feel guilty about – I really don’t like her look at all. But I love her awesome power tumbling and she just seems so genuinely nice that I end up rooting for her anyway.

  8. gymnastwannabe Says:

Imo, “international look” means anorexic. I’m glad most of our gymnasts don’t look this way. I can hardly stand to watch any gymnasts from China.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I kind of think it means long legs/lean lines and very flexible. Of course Nastia had it (covered for her bad form) and Kyla has it. I don’t think you have to be “anorexic” per se but it tends to go with long. lean legs. Komova is a classic example, but she does look anorexic.

I don’t really care to be honest. Personally, I just like to see clean form.

  9. JAS4 Says:

Saw this going around tumblr it’s like Llomincia Hall meets Laurie Hernandez lol

  10. byrdisthewyrd Says:

Rachel Gowey is upping her game and bringing an amanar to the table! I have nowhere near the technical eye that you all have so I can’t wait to hear your feelings on this video. I think she’s lovely but I tend to be biased towards Chow’s athletes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnLU4GxpodM

    • H Says:

Intresting. Imo – I think it is looking good. Some form issues on bar, she is maybe starting the twist a tiny bit early on the amanar. But I think she is a great talent. I did hear that she was aiming at a college scholarship now, hopefully she will reconsider and work towards Rio instead:-)?

      What do you think?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Her amanar – not bad! She’s got 2 years until she’s a senior? Lots of potential there. I doubt someone training an amanar is concerned about college right now; I’m thinking she’ll be one to watch for Rio if she stays healthy and doesn’t have some sort of growth spurt.

      • JAS4 Says:

I agree about starting the twist a little early. Both Shawn and Gabby had a tendency to do that as well. Maybe it’s just the technique they learned.

      • mim Says:

Is it just me making this up, but hasn’t Gowey already verbally committed to Florida?

      • biyatch Says:

Gowey is committed to Florida. This is her 2nd year as a senior.

    • Tortuga Says:

I think she shows a lot of promise. A little bit of form issues but nothing that can’t be hammered out.

      • byrdisthewyrd Says:

Sanity, Rachel is actually a senior. I think she would have been a first year senior last year but got injured. Maybe worlds potential?

      • sanitynmotion Says:

OH jeez. I looked her up and it said her age is 16. Remind me never to believe Google. My bad. Well hey I think she definitely has potential and form issues or not on bars, we’ve all seen how Chow handles his bars. I think she could still be one to talk about for Rio; heck maybe she’ll be that creeper that comes in last minute and wins everything who knows.

Did anyone notice that during that video there was a segment that was muted? I have a feeling they are trying to not disclose what was said in the background during that segment? Just wondering.

  11. Akshay Says:

Don’t look now, but Gabby is apparently going to the camp.
Well, at least it’ll give us all something to complain about.🙂

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Which camp? The next one? I hope they release videos on that one. Should be interesting.

  12. GymMom Says:

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas will attend the U.S. Women’s National Team camp at the Karolyi Ranch, a major benchmark in her bid to return to elite-level gymnastics.

Douglas is scheduled to travel to the five-day camp that begins Monday, her first trip to the training facility led by national team coordinator Martha Karolyi since winning all-around gold at the 2012 Olympics.

“I think this is the first step, going back to the camp,” said Liang Chow, Douglas’ personal coach who led the U.S. team and gold medalist Shawn Johnson at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. “I was pleased with almost two months of training. We made improvements in a short time.”

Douglas will join Norah Flatley, Rachel Gowey and Victoria Nguyen as Chow’s Gymnastics representatives at the facility near Huntsville, Texas.

Discussion and debate about the prospects of Douglas, 18, returning for a second Olympics escalated when she returned to Iowa to train with Chow in April. Douglas had split with the West Des Moines coach and moved to California last August.

Competing in more than one Olympics is relatively rare in the modern gymnastics era, but not unprecedented. Dominique Dawes and Shannon Miller both crafted successful returns. The 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Douglas was not immediately available for comment.

“This is still the beginning stage,” Chow said. “We’re working on the physical things. We have to put all the pieces together. Everything has to be falling together. In maybe one or two more months, I can give you a much clearer picture.

“I’m pretty confident in her progress and improvements. I’m pleased.”

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Wow. I have faith in Chow. That being said, it’s very interesting indeed she’s going to camp before Aly given she’s had way more “play” time.

Now here’s my conspiracy theory. Marta is holding up Aly’s return so that more glory can be bestowed upon Gabby’s return, and Gabby can be “first.”

      What do y’all think.

      • GymMom Says:

        I hope its a publicity stunt like Shawn’s was…pretending a comeback.

      • Gymbee Says:

I think the same. Aly was planning a spring comeback originally wasn’t she? And then Martha told her to wait till fall. And now, 2 months and Gabby is allowed back?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Perhaps its because Marta wants Norah and all of chows other athletes more motivated. Perhaps Aly has no reason to go to camp because she wasnt training at all, and gabby was allegedly training with Waller at gym jam all along…

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Aly has been training and Gabby never trained gymnastics with Waller. She was staying in shape. Gabby also never told Waller she was leaving. He heard about it through a text message. It was never clear if she sent the text or someone else did.

      • mim Says:

Well if Gabby is serious, at least she’s starting these camps now. Was Nastia going to any camps in 2010? (Serious question, not being sarcastic.. didn’t give a hoot about gymnastics then).

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Nastia went to one camp really early and she looked so bad Marta told her to stop coming. I don’t remember how early but it was at least the year before the Oltympics and the rumor was she couldn’t even swing the bars and Marta told her to stay home.

My guess is Gabby has her strength back. We will see how many skills

      • mim Says:

Ah, righteo thanks GTT. A big LOL at Big M telling Nastia to leave. She must have been atrocious.

  13. Exgymgurl Says:

No I dont think its publicity. I think its a check in camp like Finnegan had a while back before christmas. Only Brenna from gage. No alyssa baumann, no maddie desch. Mckenna Lou Retton got a camp invite. Gee. Im shocked. Erin macadeg is back also which is odd because I thought she was off to college with Kocian who is also at camp.

Where is poof buecler???m… Oh yeah not coached by MLT demoted to L10 and no one cares… Psyche…

    • JAS4 Says:

I agree that it’s probably just a check in camp. However look how many camps Nastia and Shawn were supposed to go to but backed out of at the last minute. So I guess when comebacks are involved I will believe it when I see it lol.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        That is a good point.

      • JAS4 Says:

After last quad I learned that people are only at camp when they are in a picture of the line ups at camp or in a picture with Marta’s hands around their face/neck lol

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Marta has to strangle you at least once prior to classics its a rule

  14. mim Says:

Um, has anyone heard about Sarah Finnegan not being at GAGE anymore? That Get a Grip blog is saying she’s no longer there and training for college at a smaller gym close by… or is this just some random rumour?

    • Exgymgurl Says:

Well shes not in Sabrina vegas garage girl pics anymore. Once you are out of Sabrina’s selfies you probably arent with gage #nastiahasherpes #goteamphillipines #goteamazerbiajan. #competeforthephillipinessarahfinnegan

  15. flippateer Says:

Jordyn allegedly still has her sights on the next Olympics, but I don’t understand how that’s going to be possible at this point.

    • JAS4 Says:

I would love for her to make a comeback, but since she doesn’t have any definite plans on when she would return to camp and all I don’t think it will be happening anytime soon. She may be waiting until next year or something but that would be cutting it close and I don’t know if she could pull it off.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I wonder if Jordyn is just saying that until her Adidas sponsorship runs out… A la Shawn Johnson. She doesn’t look like she’s even close to elite shape anymore.

      • mim Says:

Her social media gives the impression she’s happy and settled in college life. I think she’s gotten a taste of a “normal” adolescence and she’s running with it. Which is nice. But but but.. we all thought she had more left in the tank, yeah? I know she was fabulous and her sponsorships were probably lucrative but it’s such a shame she can’t at least compete NCAA.

  16. gymnastwannabe Says:

Does anyone know how hard she’s training with Chris? Maybe Marta told her to hold off on coming back like she did Aly?
