With Maroney out, skinner is on the rise. Shes the dark horse for 2014 worlds.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I kind of want her to succeed just to piss off the crazies.

      • tulip Says:

I forgot about Dowell. Is she injured and out or does Marta just blatantly dislike her. I remember the podium training from last Worlds and she looked like a different gymnast, better form and more height on bars release moves. Better shape too.

Laurie impressed me and I haven’t felt that way until now. I think I was too distracted by my horror at her hoochie age-inappropriate floor at age 13! Gyrations and all. Really gave me the icks and thought both her coach and parents were out of their minds to think that was a good idea.

Wish EB would have delayed for a year. She brings so much and it seems like the international judges like her. Rats. But she will be a star in NCAA and a full ride to Stanford is incredibly impressive.
Hoping all the injured heal quickly and feel better. I was severely limited for almost 5 months due ro a major surgery and recovery. Not fun for anyone. I feel for them.

      • tulip Says:

        That would be too good.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Is Maroney out? Sorry if my head is in the clouds. She had another surgery I’m guessing?

I was kind of laughing at Brestyan’s reaction after Skinner completed her triple twist. Like, “meh – not so bad, but not so good either.”

Why is Priessman not doing an amanar?

    • gymbot Says:

I’ve seen Skinner listed as a dark horse in a few other places – I totally agree with you. Her SV on floor is 6.9 if she gets her leaps, but it will probably be 6.8/6.7. Still – even with 2.0 points off, she’d probably qualify for finals and bring in a strong score. She could definitely contribute

      • sainabou nyang Says:

Shes looking much better. This girl clearly wants it and isnt afraid to ho after what she wants. She’s not my favorite gymnast to watch but I dont have this hostility like some others on the gymternet do. The names they call this girl is ridiculous considering shes just a kid at the end of the day.

On another note, I tried listing the top 5 gymnast by apparatus based on scoring this year , consistency, and who would possibly be used in a TF for team usa and sadly for beam and floor I could only think of three. Shockingly were ok on bars and stacked on floor. Gabby and Aly could capitalize on this. If Aly gets her beam and 2012 floor back she moves to the top of Martas list. She should forget about training AA and become a specialist. Gabby should focus on bars, beam with floor as back up.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Gabby should retire.:)

      • sainabou nyang Says:

*Correction were stacked on vault not floor.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

With EBee retiring and Maroneys injury and dowells sad political position, we are short an Amanar for TF. Thats where skinner fits in…. For 2014 TF if Simone and Kyla are healthy its simone, skinner, ? Vault Simone Kyla ? Bars, Simone, Kyla, ? Beam, Simone Skinner ? Floor. So we need two people to fill one spot on every aparatus. Im looking at Lexie if shes well, and Peyton Ernst as a mid cycle payout to Kimbo…. So without Maroney and Dowell. My world team is Biles, Ross, priessman, skinner and Ernst.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Kyla doesn’t have an Amanar but she has a well scored DTY so floor is what we really need because I don’t see Marta using Kyla even though she scored well last year.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Marta will take 3 Amanars to worlds regardless. The worst Amanar will go up against Kyla for the spot in TF. The three best vaulters at championships almost always go to team worlds.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

This is the first team worlds though since the code changed and the two vaults are closer in score so someone like Skinner might get killed with her Amanar but that would be trusting judges to do their job and that never happens so.

      • JAS4 Says:

Marta loves vaulters so if she can take all Amanars (or Skinner’s Cheng) for TF she probably will.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I’m running the team this year Jas and we are taking Skinner to piss people off.

      • Karlie Says:

        Dowell has an Amanar too.

        That said I’m with GTT.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

My team for worlds had Kyla, Simone, Maroney, Skinner, Brenna, Kocian.

If Skinner is on the team where would Marta place her in line up for vault in qualifications.?

      • Exgymgurl Says:

How Brenna can make a world team when she was ranked first alt for pac rims and bypassed for Peyton Ernst is impossible. Kocian will not make it even with six people. Marta will take maggie nichols first….a lot of people would have to be injured. You never see USAG release videos of kocian. I think at this point youd have to have an international assignment besides jesolo. Marta always takes the top three vault scores to team worlds from nationals. Since 2003, Kassi price is the only top three vaulter by score from visas not given a worlds spot, and if memory serves she was injured.

      • Catherine Says:

6.9 relies on her leaps as mentioned but also the last pass, she’s had major issues with it when it was just a 2.5, upgrading it seems a bit bizarre. In the video she’s short on it. I would think she’ll get 6.5 which is higher than everyone except Biles. I think Biles can layout her last pass…

Skinner is impressing me. Form is better, composition is much improved on beam. Not that she doesn’t have glaring flaws and basics still, but…I want her on the Nanning team. She does need Maroney out though and while Maroney is great at getting injured, she also excels at being ready for major competition.

      • gymbot Says:

Skinner had problems with all of her forward landing passes – I haven’t gone back to look, but I feel she fell on either the double arabian or the 2.5 twist in every other routine she competed. I think the change to the full-in tucked and the triple might be better for her – even the downgrade on the triple is safer than a fall. Based on the training video, I would believe Mihai Brestyan agrees with you Catherine (concerning Skinner)

      • Karlie Says:

Yeah, she usually falls on either the 2.5 or the Arabian – she fell on the arabian in Jesolo and then changed it to a full-in the next day to be on the safe side, I believe (she added in a front aerial later in the routine – at least her coaches seem to be on top of the COP requirements). She seems like she prefers backwards tumbling so this could be a good move for her.

I want her in Nanning too…haha.

      • biyatch Says:

Its crazy that if Skinner, Biles and Maroney are all on the team with Simone and Skinner both throwing Chengs and Amanars, Maroney could be left out in the cold during vault finals.

US needs beam workers. This team seems like its going to be so blah to me. Not a fan of Maggie or Peyton. Everyone wants to push Peyton as a beam worker but she’s inconsistent and kind of meh in my book.

      • uglyfatkid Says:

I second the Blah team feeling Biyatch. Love Biles and Kyla (but will write her off soon if she has no upgrades). Maroney I like, but she is becoming useless to me. One trick ponies are useless this quad. I’m still undecided about Skinner…but if she can bring it on floor and show that she has the goods on beam…I can learn to like her. It’s mostly her inconstancy that bothers me at this point.

All the rest of the new girls I can’t seem to care much about. Maybe I just need to warm up to them or something, but at this point, I just don’t care enough about them.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m going to “third” this feeling…Kyla and Simone are my top faves for sure, and I do of course love Maroney but I’m thinking Maroney might be last quad’s Sloan – very consistent in competition (generally) but also very good at being consistently injured to the point where she gets forgotten about, then comes back for Olympic Trials and gets injured again. Who knows though. I’m not ready to write her off yet for Rio (or Kyla for that matter – I think next year if Kyla doesn’t upgrade then I can write her off).

The rest of them are meh – I can’t get behind Nicols or Ernst. I like Skinner too (she’s a daredevil and I’m still pissed Moors got that thing named after her when she totally pikes it) but I think her form is atrocious in general and I believe Marta is only using her until Aly comes back.

From this current crop of seniors I only see two max making it to the Olympics in Rio. That’s just me.

I like Priessman too though – but can’t see her getting on an Olympic team. She doesn’t coyboy her arabians and she actually was one of the few girls who could keep their legs together on bars.

That clip fm MMC is totally gag worthy…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Yes it especially the end where phony MLR shows up. It was okay in the middle.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

The jetski stuff was stupid. Notice they never show MLRs butt..

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        I didn’t

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I do love the baby Britney Spears. Xtinas family was so poor they didnt have a house in her home town. She had no life outside MMC, so they created one for her riding horses etc for that piece. I think where britney talks she never grew up from that little girl with the crawfish….the pizza and the ice cream. You get the feeling if britney didnt have millions shed be working in her grandmas restaurant.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’ve heard in real life (from an entertainment lawyer) Britney is actually really down to earth and nice to her staff. Christina is a huge entitled beyotch and difficult to work with.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

They used to call Christina little Diva on the MMC set I seriously doubt her self entitlement issues have changed much.

  3. JAS4 Says:

Is Maroney back in the gym yet after the surgery she had? If Lexie can get her Amanar back like it was last year (much better than it had been previously) and get her floor back as well she could also be in the running.

  4. JAS4 Says:

In that case can you please bring Chellsie for something (like team mascot or something lol) just because I am pretty sure Marta would be beyond pissed and probably have a fit lol

    • JAS4 Says:

Oops that was supposed to be in reply to your earlier comment about being running the team GTT lol

  5. tulip Says:

Sorry everyone about any confusion with the odd placement of my posts. My long comment was supposed to be a standalone, not a reply. The following post after it saying “that would be good” was meant as a reply to GTT saying she wants Skinner on the team to make the crazies go nuts

  6. H Says:

I want Skinner on that team.
Kyla if she has upgraded …
if not, give the spot to someone else

  7. Karlie Says:

Nichols’ videos are up. She’s training a full-twisting shaposh (in the videos) and rumor has it she’s training an amanar, a double-double, and a full-twisting double layout. It would be interesting if she could sneak into the line-up – her form’s not great, but she actually has usable bars and with an amanar she’d be an asset.

    • kittykat Says:

Yeah I like her skills, but it pains me that she can do a decent “mustafina” yet can’t point her feet on a straddled jaeger…

      • Exgymgurl Says:

So your saying shes imitating Aliyas form?

      • Kittykat Says:

No, no, sorry, I was calling her full twisting shaposh a “mustafina”, I was commenting that she can do that with decent form but not a jaeger!

      • Karlie Says:

agreed…her feet on the Jaeger kill me…

I think the full twisting Maloney is actually a Seitz (the Russians didn’t realize Elizabeth Seitz had submitted it in 2011), but there’s actually other footage of Nichols training a pak + shaposh a.k.a. another combination Mustafina is known for! (footage is on youtube)

      • kittykat Says:

Ooh sorry, I didnt realize the Mustafina hadn’t actually been added to the COP, I thought it had. They are actually different skills though, the Mustafina is a full twisting shaposh to mixed grip where as the Seitz is just a full twisting shaposh.🙂 Anyway, thats what I was referring to!

      • kittykat Says:

Maloney, I meant maloney. I’m hopeless with skill names

    • byrdisthewyrd Says:

Nia Dennis’ page said that Nichols’ showed an amanar at camp. I guess Dennis, Bailie Key, and Priessman all showed amanars at camp this year. I like Maggie and think she has improved a ton. She isn’t a standout but an amanar would definitely be a score booster!

    • biyatch Says:

I feel like Maggie severely hurt her chances when she went to Tokyo and finished 3rd. She badly messed up bars and couldn’t break a 14 with a basically hit beam set. If not for a solid DTY she would have finished well off the podium.

  8. biyatch Says:

I never really understood all Laurie love either to be honest. People love to say she’s artistic but she just seems very spazzy in all her movements to be. She reminds me a lot of Vega in that she is known for her floor but without the massive difficulty that gives it EF potential and has some power but not necessary powerful enough to throw the huge tumbles. Her DTY was scary at times last year and unless she figured out a way to get a better block its a knee injury waiting to happen.

For the girls coming back if I were their coaches I would 100% NOT encourage them to come back as specialist. I feel like being a specialist is giving Marta a built in excuse to screw you. Even if Aly never sees another AA event in her life Marta likes knowing that they have it. (I could see Aly maybe getting like the Tokyo WC assignment or the 2 European assignments if she wanted it and was ready, where she’d pretty much be guaranteed to win and pick up a decent 5 figure check)

    • gymbot Says:

Yeah! I wish some of the returning professional olympians consider this option – in the near future, I see at least 2 Americans towards the top of the World/Olympic AA podium – so even if the athlete didn’t make it to worlds, there should always be a spot for an American gymnast. But then again, perhaps Marta reserves the FIG World Cup Events for gymnasts needing experience

    • Catherine Says:

Hernandez is a junior for two more seasons, she does not need massive difficulty. In fact her difficulty level is too high already.

  9. gymmom2 Says:

Marta told too many girls to never come back and they dropped back to 10 and now she has no seniors. Speaking of Mary Lou, rumor has it that McKenna Kelley was invited to National Team camp in June and is trying to go elite as a specialist. Can anyone say media hype?

    • uglyfatkid Says:

Can anyone explain what the main difference between level 10 and elite is? Obviously elite is more difficult…but how exactly? I am not a gymnast, so I don’t know the ins and outs. What’s the main differences? Does anyone know??

    • JAS4 Says:

I heard that she was going to camp as well. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Marta were to make a spot for her. USAG loves media hype.

  10. Jenn Smith Says:

I wonder what happened with Melissa Oliver, gymnasticly speaking.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I searched for her on youtube and google and there was like nothing. I wanted to add that part to the blog but couldn’t find anything with such a common name.
