Live Scoring.

Thoughts before bed. Kyla I love you but UPGRADE. Unless you do something you are losing your AA spot to Price. I will take into consideration your mess up on floor ( losing 3 tenths) and your downgrade by 5 tenths on bars but that still puts you behind Ebee by 4 tenths.

Great job Ebee. I will always think your floor is overscored because of the lack of artistry but your beam keeps getting better (work on the leaps) and you deserved this win.

Bailie, you bore me but you are Miss Consistent.

Getting a kick out of Ms Con=geniality Kyla Ross talking to the Canadians. Now she is signing autographs for them still talking. This is why I love this kid. While the rest of the US is chatting by themselves Kyla is running for Mayor of Canada and she has no clue the camera is on her.

Now the other gymnasts have joined the line for Kyla’s autograph and a picture.

Noe the HBIC Canadian is yelling at the VOLuNTEERS to do their job. Biatch.

They took my feed away 😦

Medal time.

Rotation 4- Bars

ZHOU Linlin just had a beautiful beam routine.

Norah was off on all her handstands. I love this angle. (5.7) 14.200
Bailie was short on a few handstands. (5.6) 14.350
Peyton 14.600 (5.9)
Kyla. Kid hit her handstands and this angle shows it. 14.800 (5.9)
Ebee (6.4) 15.000
Nia (5.4) 14.000 ( Short on a lot of handstands)

Rotation 3- Vault

Bailie (44.900)
Ebee (44.900)
Kyla (43.900)
Dennis (43.950)
Norah (42.650)
Peyton (29.100) ( 2 events)

Vault was going by quickly so I missed Nia. I only saw Bailie land. Peyton had a short DTY.Kyla had a step on a DTY but a lot of height from this angle. Ebee was a bit short on her Amanar.

Nia (5.8) 15.150
Baile (5,8) 15.300
Kyla (5.8) 15.300
Peyton (5.8) 15.050
Norah (5.0) 14.050
Ebee (6.3) 15.700

USA 177.650 (1) 61.450 (1) 0.000 (3) 58.050 (1) 58.750 (1)
CHN 164.850 (2) 55.750 (2) 56.300 (1) 0.000 (3) 52.950 (3)
CAN 164.050 (3) 0.000 (3) 53.500 (2) 55.150 (2) 55.550 (2)

Rotation 2- Floor
(This is the worst feed of all 3)

Not close enough for specifics. Nia’s looked a little short on her first pass and took two small steps on her last. She is watchable on floor. (5.9 )for a 14.750
Bailie- Short on her double Memmel and a small step on her first pass. Big step on her double tuck. (6.0) 14.750
Kyla missed the leap out of first pass. Big step on double pike. (5.4) 14.150
Ebee nailed the shit out of that double layout but I hate this music. (6.0) 15.00 She nailed her passes and these are the types of floor routines judges like now.
Norah had a 5.2 start value for a 13.950
Elisabeth Black got a 15.000 on beam with a 6.6 start value.
Peyton scratched Floor. How is this team event working because doesn’t that leave the US short a senior floor worker? I guess the team event is both juniors and seniors.
They raised Ebee’s floor score to a 15.100

Ugly ass pink leotards AGAIN.

Rotation 1: Beam

Key hit beam with a low Arabian but got a 6.3 start value for a 14.850.
Ebee has a few bobbles on beam but good for her 14.100 (5.9)
Peyton stayed on beam but missed both connections I saw 14.050 (6.0)
Norah, Big bobble on her punch front and she missed a connection or 2. Not her best but good enough. She reminds me of Shawn but with better leaps and presentation which is lacking on beam these days (6.2) 14.650
Kyla landed short on her dismount and missed her connection to the wolf jump but my feed was bouncy (5.7) 14.450
Nia is last. Hiding her is my guess ? She has a great Arabian but the rest of this is blah (5.8) 14.050

OVERALL the US wasn’t great on beam but for being up first they did okay. Kyla’s execution is saving her once again. China had no difficulty on floor and Canada was killed on bars.

I don’t think I will be doing much live blogging. The competition starts at 10 and I need to get up early tomorrow morning but the above links work and we are currently in the middle of watching the last rotation of the second session.

You mean you’ll miss the fresh hip hop crew? Blasphemy!!!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

I forgot about them. Maybe I will stay up and watch now:P I am so tired I might fall asleep with these crappy feeds but they are better than nothing.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

Do you think it will be like the fresh beats? or the wiggles? or one of Justin bieber’s friends?

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Fresh Beat doing Hip Hop. definitely.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I was hoping for the wiggles but I guess the fresh beats singing hop hop with the old marina would suffice

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Patch and Kayla’s daughter. I agree. I still remember the signature dance. I am so glad my niece out grew this

  2. sanitynmotion Says:

I just hope that there are YouTube videos when all is said and done.

  3. sanitynmotion Says:

Team USA = red, white, blue. I mean what the heck.

That being said Bailie Key is like a machine. Not perfect but pretty good from what I can see (shaky feed). Her knees look bent on some of her leaps still and I don’t buy she’s making it all the way around on her triple twist dismount.

Price’s beam was kind of bleh – lots of wobbles and bad leaps. Kind of bad form overall. Needs some work.

Peyton – her form used to be OK. What’s with the now bent legs/non-pointed toes on tumbling and her leaps barely get to 180…? At least she didn’t fall (on beam).

I’m only watching what I can get away with before the hubbie comes in here and is like WTF. Gymnastics again?!

  4. sanitynmotion Says:

What do you mean by hiding Nia? Is she that great? (I really don’t know)…

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Apparently she was an exhibition but by hiding I mean putting her last to boost her score. The US did it to Jamie Dantzscher on bars in 200 and it worked.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Oh I see. I find her meh too except that arabian. She needs to stick the landing on that though.
I might give up on floor and wait for youtube videos. This is a crappy vantage point.

  5. sanitynmotion Says:

Ebee’s music is way too similar to Gabby’s old routine for my taste.

  6. sanitynmotion Says:

Ebee might be taking this from Kyla.

Kyla needs to realize though that she NEEDS to upgrade her events. I mean I’m thinking she knows that but still.

    • gymtruthteller Says:

Ebee is going to win this as long as she doesn’t fall and frankly I think it is what Kyla needs to talk her into using the upgrades she has but refuses to compete.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I keep wondering if that’s Kyla’s call or Marta’s. I can never be sure.

  7. Exgymgurl Says:

    Phantom. For Kyla…, uggh!!!

  8. JAS4 Says:

I wonder if Ballie is planning on trying an Amanar once she turns senior? I really hope Kyla upgrades by classics/nationals! If not the may end up as a bars/beam specialist (but she still needs upgrades on those or at least back to her level from Worlds)

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yup. If Kyla continues to refuse to compete her upgrades she’s getting passed up. Two of the juniors (I believe) can easily surpass her current AA score and even then, those juniors likely still have upgrades to show.

Then you have Peyton’s bar score was actually quite close to Kyla’s bars…and Ebee’s bars I believe beat Kyla’s. She won’t even be able to be a beam/bar specialist if she doesn’t upgrade those two events, stat.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Ebee had a 6.4 start value to Kyla’s 5.9 on bars.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah – exactly why Kyla needs to upgrade. She’s getting passed up because she doesn’t have a high enough D score.

      • Catherine Says:

I would be totally unsurprised if Kyla does not upgrade. I mean beyond her Antwerp d scores, she’s below them now and will presumably get them back. But no more. Back pain/injury can be very troublesome and with her growth and desire for college…I think it’s too late. 2012 and 2013 was bizarre with no upgrades but in a way it makes sense now.

She will be surpassed, she already is by Simone. Bailie is obviously capable and Ebee more than likely could still if Kyla gets her 2013 routines back.

  9. sanitynmotion Says:

I also have to say the girls did really well on bars given their warm-ups. I was actually a bit scared.

  10. sainabou nyang Says:

15.10 for Ebee on floor? Hmmm I’ll need to watch the vids to believe it. I don’t think she’ll get that kind of score at worlds.

I agree if Kyla doesn’t upgrade she’ll either lose her AA position and be a UB/BB specialist or she should just get used to always being second place in major AA competitions.

    • Exgymgurl Says:

This was a setup for EBee to win.

    • Melanie Says:

Yeah, her scores seemed a bit high. She hit 15 on three different apparatuses. The vault seems fair, but bars and floor were both overscored IMO. I actually like her bars, but her floor is atrocious. Typical Parkette’s crappy choreo.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I thought her floor was awful besides the tumbling passes, which were landed very nicely and her tumbling was OK from my crappy vantage point. Overscored yes but she deserved the AA win with her performances I thought.

I actually thought Ebee’s bars looked very muscled – like worse than Jordyn’s bars muscled. But that’s just my opinion. Her beam wasn’t that good but she stayed on.

I actually really liked Bailey Key’s new floor routine. I didn’t realize she finally got rid of the Kim Zmeskal music (thank gawd!!!).

      • Karlie Says:

Yes, the choreo is pretty awful, but her actual execution of skills is pretty good. The COP doesn’t really have enough deduction for artistry, etc. but honestly, given the current code, I thought her floor was scored fairly – she stuck both her double-double and the DLO, and landed both very upright; plus her leaps were improved too. I don’t love watching her floor, but I don’t think she was really gifted much either.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

There is more than a point deduction in that routine but floor scores in general are a joke these days. Its all about comparing routines and taking the difficulty into consideration.

Simone has amazing tumbling but I thought her floor scores were ridiculous at Worlds last year.

      • Melanie Says:

The tumbling is alright unless you watch from certain angles, like watching the leg separation on her DLO. There’s something weird about her double-double, too…it’s like a weird hybrid of a layout and tuck position? Her leaps aren’t that great, either. But, you’re right that her landings are great. I think she definitely deserved to win, absolutely. There’s no way she was overscored by over a point. But I think she was given some gifts that she will not get on a bigger international stage.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

She may have been given a gift but not to the extent that say she would have been given had this competition been held in the US. In the US I’m betting her score would have been like a 15.5, maybe even higher. I feel like on the world stage her score might not have been much different only because look how they scored Biles, who has similar (crappy) choreography and similar tumbling. Sadly I think this is the new wave of elite gymnastics, which is turning the focus on the difficulty of the tricks vs. the overall movement, flow, grace, and style of the routine itself.

Look at the college floor routine that recently scored a 10.0. I threw up in my mouth a little bit watching that. I’ve seen better dance moves on club dance floors. It was super cringe-worthy, yet that is now a 10.0. My gawd.

      • Melanie Says:

Maybe I’m totally biased (I’m pretty sure that I am), but I like Simone on floor so much more than Ebee. I really think her choreo is better…not fantastic…but better, and her tumbling is cleaner.

Oh god, I pretty much hate college floor. Are you talking about the Lloimincia Hall video that’s “gone viral”? It’s obnoxious. I’ve seen tons of wannabe gymfans posting about how “amazing” it is on Facebook just like they did when Gabby won in London. Gag me with a spoon.

Also, do you remember that viral video of the acro gymnastics team from Ukraine (I think)? It seemed like the general public thought that was something completely new and brilliant when there are literally teams from all over the world that do similar routines. Haha, I just get my panties in a bunch when people pretend to be experts on stuff they know nothing about.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I like the first few minutes of Hall’s current routine but the crap she did last year was horrible. I can’t believe how many people liked that routine. I do admit though I liked the beginning of the newer routine. She very enthusiastic but other wise I totally agree especially about College floor routines.

Simone sells her routine better than Ebee but neither is a favorite. I don’t think I have really liked a floor routine since Ana Pavlova’s 2008.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

YES I’m talking about the Lloimincia Hall video!!! AWFUL, right? It’s one of the cheesiest things I’ve ever seen. Like, laughable dance moves. OK, her tumbling was fine (for a college gymnast) but other than that I’m not buying it. But whatever, it’s college.

I never saw the viral video of the Ukraine group.

I prefer Simone’s floor to Ebee’s too but I think Simone just looks less awkward because she’s shorter. I feel like their movements would be more similar if she were taller and had longer legs like Ebee. There’s something that just doesn’t look right. Ebee could use a floor routine more like Jordyn Weiber’s back in 2012.

      • Melanie Says:

Oh, it’s so bad it’s not even funny. Yeah, tumbling was fine-ish, but seriously, that “choreo” was designed for a person too lazy to learn how to point their toes or keep their legs straight. It’s mostly frustrating because when it goes viral, people tend to associate all gymnastics with it. Can you imagine what would happen if Marta saw one of the national team gymnasts doing a routine like that? Tee-hee.

I hope Simone doesn’t shoot up if that’ll make her gymnastics look weird! When I think weird gymnastics body, I think Maria Olaru, but you’re right, it’s odd to have a really tall power gymnast with long legs. Shawn was short and squat, Jordyn was, Aly was a bit taller, but not as tall as Ebee…maybe that is why she looks so ungainly on floor.

  11. Exgymgurl Says:

I think Kylas back injury is such that either she cant upgrade or she isnt peaked yet. I think EBee is peaking too early in the season and will get injured again or broken completely. It will be interesting to see what difficulty Kyla pulls out for beam and bars EF. Also floor since shes qualified there. This was obviously more of a test event for Peyton. Kyla is always following Martas orders.

    • Catherine Says:

She may have peaked as a junior in terms of being ahead of the pack.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Part of me is wondering if Bailey is doing the same thing…peaking as a junior. She could end up like Shawn – on the brink of a growth spurt come the Olympics. I guess time will tell.

      • sainabou nyang Says:

I think Bailey is starting her growth spurt now. Same with Nia which is good. I’m more worried that Nora will get a growth spurt at the wrong time like say right before the Olympics.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Norah is as cute as a button and a great little beamer but she is going no where near the Olympics unless she gets a real vault or a super bar routine. She reminds me of Sraha Finnegan only her connections might actually get credit

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah she can definitely fill that “hole” on beam for USA, but she needs to be more than a one-event gymnast. She did mention in her interview she was working on a DTY vault with Chow and we know of any of the coaches, he’ll get it out of her.

I also feel like he’s working “up” her bars so that in a couple years she’ll have more upgrades (kind of like how Kyla’s bars used to be minimal as a junior and then she worked hers up eventually as a senior). At least that’s what I’m hoping because Chow learned a big lesson with Shawn on bars.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

I thought the post interview with Kyla was interesting because she specifically stated that Marta wants her to incorporate her old upgrades and compete her new ones eventually. So it seems like it’s Kyla that is refusing to compete her upgrades. Maybe because of her back/injuries…but Marta is basically telling her she will need to put those back in if she wants to stay relevant on team USA.

At least, that’s what I got out of it.

      • H Says:

        ditto that

      • Melanie Says:

Yeah, I don’t know why Marta would be pushing Kyla NOT to upgrade. It doesn’t really make sense. I’m not saying that everything Marta does makes sense, but why would she want one of her top all-arounders to be downgrading right now?

Kyla’s always been super-tentative. She’s done those stupid little checks on beam and floor for…forever. To be honest, I don’t know how she’s made it this far in gymnastics because she is so hesitant, but I’m assuming it’s because of her work ethic. It’s just getting to a point where she’s going to have to add a little risk into her routines or move on to college.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah you’re right about her balance checks on every landing. What Kyla has that is so hard to “train” in a gymnast is that she’s super consistent under pressure, and rarely ever makes mistakes during competitions. Part of her consistency may be her lack of difficulty in exchange for execution, but it’s becoming more apparent that judges reward more for higher risk than execution – the writing’s been on that wall for years, now.

Even on FB the fans are saying that Kyla needs to upgrade, so we’re not the only people that are concerned about the fate of Kyla Ross. She’s only getting away with it now because many of the other international seniors are coming back from injuries or growth spurts. Come 2015/2016 she’s going to be facing huge competition – namely from her own country.

      • gymnastwannabe Says:

I wonder if Kyla is trying to save herself for college. She has to know she’s not a definite for Rio and perhaps doesn’t want to injure herself to the point she can’t get a scholarship. I don’t see the fire in her for another Olympics that I see in other gymnasts. On the positive side, it’s good she has goals outside elite gymnastics b/c many gymnasts don’t.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m guessing Kyla’s taking it one day at a time. She already made an Olympic team and to do it twice in a row is basically unheard of anymore in the US. She probably has one more Worlds team in her, maybe two, and she may go to Olympic Trials (I’m guessing) in 2016 but it’s not the end of the world for her if she doesn’t make the Rio Team and she knows it. If anyone from Fierce Five makes it again to Rio I will be surprised given the crop of juniors coming up, the fact only 5 girls can go, and there are lots of amanars (sorry McKayla).

It’s not such a bad idea for Kyla to not push it given her growth spurt and recent injuries to take it easy and save herself for college. It’s obviously the main end-goal for her since she hasn’t gone pro despite her wins and she’s really smart. You know the acceptance rate at Stanford is less than 6% – she’ll get in for sure on that gymnastics team.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

I almost wonder if Kylas coaches arent just pacing her and her upgrades / consistency. Parkettes dont know or never have shown how to properly pace athletes for the olympics. Remember Chow with Shawn not competing an Amanar until the olympic year? Pretty much same with gabby…. Chinese coaches pace differently than the rest of the team USA coaching staff. If Kylas goal is 2016 then shes pacing for it, and its 2014 we are two years off. she needs to manage / pace her injury and come back slowly. She only needs her upgrades to be consistent in 2016 / late 2015. Not in the first quarter of 2014.

And there are always injuries and mistakes….. It always happens. Jordyn was injured in London and of course it effected her. She didnt want to be Memmelled out so she worked through it! but Im certain it effected her landings and she definitely was not at her best.

      • sanitynmotion Says:

I’m hoping you are right about Kyla. It makes sense given her past…although she did have an amanar pretty fast (in her junior career) and unfortunately wasn’t allowed to use it during her senior debut (this is where I think Marta was holding her back so that Kyla could not interfere with Gabby/Aly being the top potential AA’ers).

Jordyn is someone who was doing incredibly difficult skills early on – almost peaking too soon; her coach was so overly confident that 2 years before London he was basically like “she’s ready to go now.” I knew that would end up biting him in the ass. Plus, the Marta death camps wore her out and even he knew that and said so. She was lucky her injury allowed her to continue to compete despite the pain. But yeah, she definitely wasn’t at her best at the Olympics. The sluggishness became more apparent (to me) after the team comp. I think part of her “tiredness” was the emotional tole the Olympics took on her, because we all know she got royally screwed in Quals.

  12. GymMom Says:

Spoiler alert: Shawn tweeted a photo with her growing puppy and she hasn’t tweeted anymore about Celebrity Apprentice tasks…..fired already?

    • gingercrush Says:

Tomorrow no more puppy tweets. Puppy has died. Did you just sit on the puppy Shawn?

Trump is fixing this years show for Johnny Damon the non celebrity ex member of the Yankees Still Suck.

      • Case Says:

He played for the Red Sox too!

      • gymtruthteller Says:

I remember him playing for the Sox that one game in 2004 but before that I remember him mostly for going 2- 31 or something like that and being a huge reason we were down 3 games to 0 but Trump is a Yankee fan. He didn’t add Damon because he played for us.

  13. gingercrush Says:

Yay New Zealander currently 3rd equal qualifier on floor.

  14. Exgymgurl Says:

Sure youve seen this….. Girl meets world teaser

  15. Flippateer Says:

A piece written by Aly on her planned comeback. Either this is heavily edited, or her writing has gotten a lot better – I hope the latter. I’m interested to see what she looks like when she gets back to camp, but trying not to get my hopes up yet.

    • sanitynmotion Says:

Yeah I saw this and thought the same thing – either those college courses are making significant returns or she has a good ghostwriter. Either way, I still think it’ll be hard for her to pull off a comeback – I hope she does it because I like her, but I still have a hard time liking her gymnastics.
