Ladies Medal Ceremony

Worlds ended sometime in the middle of the night and the US came home with exactly ZERO medals. I just got done watching the ladies LP on you tube and can’t believe the overscoring that happened but considering what an under-rotating jump fest it was I am not even sure I can argue with the outcome. Though I do have lots of complaints.

We will start with Mao Asada who deserved her win. She had a beautiful SP (not sure it was the best SP of all time but it was very well done) In the LP she under-rotated a bunch of jumps but hit her triple axel and easily deserved the win.

Carolina Kostner was slow, boring and overscored per usual and how any judge can justify 10.00’s for her with that performance is beyond me. Usually I agree she has very good interpretation but she did not in that LP. She was slow and acted like she didn’t even want to be on that ice. Your Choreography and Composition suffer when you fall on your ass. There was only one time I felt like she did that music justice and it lasted about 3 seconds. You can easily see the overscoing for her when she got a level 1 they upped the PCS to make sure she ended up on the podium. This has been going on for years when it comes to Carolina I guess it pays to have the head of the IOC be Italian.

Anna Pogorilaya is a human bulldozer. That is my new nickname for her. Talk about skating around the ice and just jumping. This was the worst performance of the night for me. There was nothing in this attack but her throwing herself around the ice.

Ashley Wagner stayed on her feet but for the first half of this performance I almost shut off the video. She picked it up 2 minutes in and gave her best performance of the year. The judges do not like her and she pretty much only has herself to blame for that. She needs to shut up and skate like this all the time because her quality of work is light years ahead of Gold and she is not getting the PCS to show that quality.

Gracie Gold had a beautiful Triple Lutz to start her LP and that was it. She was in the perfect position to steal a bronze medal and she choked it away. Anyone that says this girl has improved by being with Frank Carroll is crazy. Her music felt like it was back ground to watch her skate around the ice and wave her arms. There is no improvement here and there never was but sadly in NBC says something the American public follows suit and believes this to be true.

Julia Lipnitskaia was her usual self with a fall. Her jumps are the smallest in the competition. She was doing okay til the fall (a few scratchy jumps here and there)

Overall the LP’s were boring as heck and they didn’t even matter in the end because the SP kept the leaders in the lead regardless of what they did in their LP. This competition was a huge let down or I don’t know maybe my opinion is already at an all time low after that joke of an Olympics I am seeing what I am feeling. Disdain for this sport

Larisa Iordache
took both Beam and Floor at Doha. She also won Vault. Diana Bulimar finished second on floor not bad for her first competition back after an injury. Lets hope she stays healthy for Worlds at the end of the year.

Other Videos from this meet

Larisa Irodache- Beam and Floor
Diana Bulimar – Beam and Floor
Mary-Anne Monckton- Beam
Lauren Mitchell- Floor

Paul Ruggeri finished second on Highbar. You can see his routine here.’s
article about his medal.

Epke Zonderland won Gold with his ugly ass release moves that if they were done by an American would be called all sorts of names. Form matters as much as difficulty.

Whitlock and Tunney took the British titles

Kostner skates like a horse. All the ridiculous talk about her being so “artistic” during the Olympics made me want to gag on my tea. I don’t even care enough about the Russians to watch their programs. Underrotated jumps or not, I’m just happy Mao is where she deserves to be.

I thought Iordache and Bulimar looked pretty good. Bulimar was good on beam too, just didn’t have enough difficulty yet to make it on the podium. Both of the Romanians shame the purple/pink-clad Americans with their beautiful blue and red star-studded leos.

I bet the Australians are just glad that Mitchell’s back in the game. What in the world is going on with their program? I guess I could ask the same of Romania and Russia, though, too.

I thought Mitchell should have been third on floor. The CandAian gymnast had the same start value and was a disaster jumping lander. OveralL the judging seemed a big weird.

Don’t get me started on Worlds. The only LP I enjoyed was the second half of Ashley and some of Mao. I forced myself to sit through them especially the second Russian. She is horrible. That was like a Bull in a China shop. I should have used that instead of Bulldozer.

      • Melanie Says:

Yeah, I thought Mitchell deserved more, too. It amazes me how other country’s gymnasts can come back seemingly so easily (at least without tons of hype) and yet our returning gymnasts make such a big deal about it.

I only watched Kostner and Mao. I love that you called her a bulldozer. Makes me almost want to watch it. I just have ask myself how much I want my eyes to bleed.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

        Bulldozer was a perfect description.

      • Melanie Says:

Just watched her…no expression at all. She didn’t really seem in control of her limbs and her spins were very awkward.

Seriously? Lipnitskaya was silver with a fall? What a weak field.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

SP made the whole competition a waste of time. We knew who was winning the medals before LP took place at least for ladies

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Not surprised since the Olympics taught us figure skating is fixed. The results are no shocker unless someone choked really badly. Yulia would have been the gold medalist at Sochi had she not fallen all over the place.

It’s funny how Wagner can stay on her feet and yet come in 7th and people with falls land podium. If I were her I’d give up and quit. Why bother wasting my time on this good for nothing sport. Seriously, a time waster.

At this point nobody in the US is dominant or strong enough to be a podium threat and I don’t even see that happening next Olympics either.

And it sounds like we have another Irina Slutskaya on our hands. Just another reason for me not to watch this sport.

No one will ever be Kwan. The sport is dying if not already dead. They need to do something….I vote bring back school figures. And have compulsories. Its become a snooze dying a slow death. This would make it die more quickly.

  3. JAS4 Says:

I like Tunney’s bar routine it needs some cleaning up on the form but over all I thought it pretty good I wonder what the d score is for that routine

  4. JAS4 Says:

Saw this on tumblr SCARY! Why is this scoring a 14.950? They need to put some serious deductions in the COP that discourages crazy skill chunking like this!

    • gymtruthteller Says:

She had like an 8.250 for execution. The start value saved her. This is crazy

      • JAS4 Says:

They need to have some kind of automatic major deduction for that kind of thing or lower the start value some and add some kind of heavy deduction or something I am not sure what the answer is but they need to do something! or just take that vault out of the COP all together because generally the attempts of that vault are all extra scary!

      • Melanie Says:

Mahmoud gave an interview a while back where she said it was less scary for her to do the Produnova than an Amanar because she had a greater chance of getting injured on an Amanar.

Um…no. Sure, people get injured doing Amanars, but at most, it’s a knee injury. Not much of a chance of a possibly life-threatening neck injury.

It doesn’t make sense that things like one-armed giants are completely devalued and Thomas saltos are banned, but this isn’t. It’s just a matter of time before Mahmoud or Pena Abreu kill themselves on this vault.

      • Exgymgurl Says:

The whole point of an open code is to up difficulty. If she wants to try more difficult she gets rewarded for that. She would never be doing this vault ina 10.0 system. If shes more comfortable with this than an Amanar so be it. Prudonova landed it. I dont think it should be banned.

      • gymtruthteller Says:

Prudonova was a freak of nature and it actually took her awhile to get this vault down. Some of her early attempts were scary but no where as scary as this.

If they are not going to ban this vault then they need to make it not worth attempting when it looks like that.

They need to do what they usually do when they deem a skill too difficult low ball it in the code so it isn’t worth doing. Start this sucker at a 5.6 and no one does it.

      • Gymbee Says:

That is disgusting, so dangerous! Maybe we should start a petition again 🙂

      • JAS4 Says:

Saw this on tumblr as well
Seriously what is wrong with the fig and these coaches!

      • sanitynmotion Says:

Quite obviously they won’t take out the Prudonova until someone DOES break their neck or die or whatever. It’s called closing the barn door after the horse gets out, and that’s all that the FIG does in this sport.

  5. Cee Says:

I’ve been checking the news to see who medaled (so happy Mao got another title) but I won’t watch if it airs on NBC. I was disgusted with the Sochi results and the fact that Sotnikova didn’t even COMPETE is even worse. It’s ’98 all over again, when Tara wouldn’t compete at worlds because she knew her victory was a fluke (and to give Tara credit, at least she won in Nagano skating two clean programs and didn’t WAVE at the audience during her program). Everyone knows Sotnikova didn’t deserve the gold and the Russian federation didn’t want their bought gold to be tainted so they’re going to delay her return to reduce the pressure. Just so disgusted with figure skating.
